The Name of the Star
The Name of the Star follows Rory Deveaux, an American teenager from Louisiana
as she attends her senior year at a London boarding school. Her arrival in England
coincides with the outset of a series of gruesome murders by what seems to be a
Jack the Ripper copycat. As the bodies pile up, Rippermania spreads throughout
England and Rory gets stuck in the middle of it all when she becomes a witness
after seeing a mysterious man on school grounds. A man no one else has seen and
who becomes the prime suspect of the crimes. As the plot and mystery unfolds, Rory

This is another great aspect of the novel and one that speaks volumes about how
good it is. I am sick and tired of everything being a series these days but I would read
more of The Shades of London now if it were available. This series has real
potential: all characters are well developed with background stories that beg
further development; what happens in the end opens up a can of worms that will
have to be dealt with and is basically an even greater life changing event for Rory
and finally, there are real philosophical, ethical aspects to what the Shades do and I

Things They Carried
Tim O Brien does a fantastic job of blurring the lines of what is true and what is
fiction in The Things They Carried. In fact, he often points out that he has made
entire stories up, after the fact. He defends his decisions by proposing that what he
has done is, in fact, not lie, but rather tell a storytruth. He argues that his reason for
doing this is to bring the story to life more than it could live through the happening
truth. I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story truth is truer
sometimes than happening truth (O Brien, 183). O Brien believes that, when
accompanied by vivid details which essentially make the reader view the scene as a
dream, story truths can carry greater emotional truths than ever possible to... Show
Story telling truth, as has been defined to an extent, isn t completely real. Most
frequently, it is modeled after happening truth, where it re shapes the story. Through
the addition of details to the happening truth, the story becomes more believable.
Oftentimes, great morals come from story truths where they were not previously
evident in happening truths. One vivid example of this would be the scene where
Curt Lemon is killed. Following this is the baby water buffalo scene (O Brien, 74).

The details bring the story truth to life, as the reader can picture what is going on
more clearly through a sort of dream. Story truths bring events to life through the
imagination. The thing about a story is that you dream it as you tell it, hoping that
others might then dream along with you, and in this way memory and imagination
and language combine to make spirits in the head. There is an illusion of aliveness
(O Brien, 218).
Oftentimes, heroic instances are added to give a story morals, where they may not
have been visible to begin with. Take, for example, the scene where O Brien
describes the soldiers who come upon a killer grenade. One of the soldiers jumped
out and attempted to take the blast to save the rest of the soldiers. Right before they
all die, one of the soldiers asks why he jumped out

A Summary Of The Faerie Queene And Beowulf
After reading the assigned short stories I decided to use the first book of the Faerie
Queene and Beowulf. These stories have numerous uses of imagery, Throughout
Beowulf there are creatures and battles that are so epic they literally pop off the
page because of the way ( the author s) described them. In the first book of the Faerie
Queene(the author) there are also a wide variety of different monsters and battles and
stunning characters, but they also connect with history.
I decided to choose Imagery because both of these stories are full of different
creatures and scenes that need imagery to be told in its full glory. Beowulf is action
packed and has descriptive battles and the Faerie Queene has many historical
references that involve imagery.
In the Faerie Queene Spenser uses imagery with what was happening politically or
religiously at the time. There are many examples throughout the story that suggests
this. At the time Spenser wrote the Faerie Queene it was during the English
reformation when England dropped Catholicism and turned to Protestantism as the
country s new religion. Since this was going on at the time Spenser used imagery to
connect with events and to show that their new religion could prevail over the
Catholic s criticism.
In the first book Spenser talks about the noble knight Redcrosse, and describes him
as a symbol to look up to. An example Spenser wrote But on his brest a bloudie
Crosse he bore, The deare remembrance of his dying Lord, For whose sweete sake
that glorious badge he wore, And dead as living ever him adored (1.i.2.1 4). Here it
almost seems like Spenser is using imagery to describe the knight Redcrosse as a
Christ figure. Further into the story Spenser talks about a mythical creature called

There are several different worldviews that people believe in. Those might ask what
exactly is a worldview? Here is the definition: A worldview is the framework of basic
beliefs
that we hold, whether we realize it or not, that shapes our view of and for the world.
Everyone
