Wireless sensor networks in Smart Homes
Wireless sensor networks are an emerging area with wide range of potential applications such as environmental monitoring. These
networks consist of low power, low cost sensor nodes that can sense the environment and can communicate with each other.
Changes occur at a fast rate with the application of sensor devices. Sensor networks research primarily focus on routing protocols,
data aggregation and data dissemination. Key areas here are agricultural climate control and monitoring, health care, industrial
machine health monitoring, mining safety monitoring, and traffic monitoring.
An intelligent home system equipped with wireless thermostats and dampers can keep the rooms on the sunny side of the house
comfortable — without chilling the occupants on the shady side of the house — more effectively than a home equipped with only a
single, wired thermostat. Using Meshcom Modules wireless mesh, it is possible to design an automated home with ecologically
remote-controlled home appliances. By combining Meshcom intelligent home network with GSM network, cell phone can be used to
control the home network from remote location via Internet. With this one can switch on/off the AC, water heater, lights, microwave
oven , and any other connected appliances while onmove. In GSM controlled home network, central control node of the local network
at home is empowered by a GSM interface. Home network reduces the stress level of a user making things easier and more
manageable.
Public area WLAN with backhaul support for RFID retail system
Many public areas, like sports stadiums and shopping malls, are places for business, and they have some sort of Point of sale (POS)
system implemented. This can be further enhanced by integrating wireless technology with it, making it scalable, dynamic, and open to
a lot of different opportunities for growth. Mobile Ethernet mesh network provides high-speed internet access, while RFID enables
POS system to process credit card information and other secure payment data.
With RFID readers using Meshcom Modules, and MeshDriver-powered WLAN access points, setting up portable concessions is now
easy, efficient and secure. Using wireless handheld devices, the wireless network benefits paying customers, such as owners of
private suites. The network can be made to support transmission of digital images for media outlets and wireless ticket scanners
located at entry gates. Huge cost savings can be achieved with a common POS system provided by the facility
. RFID systems with Meshcom Modules powered readers can easily be integrated with the site’s other business
analytics software that uses RFID data to manage all areas of retail including POS, inventory management, warehouse, distribution
center, allocation, integrated e-commerce, data mining and back-office.
for every small
business outlet
Seaport terminal asset tracking
Seaports and other bigger logistics centers typically nowadays have some kind of asset tracking system implemented. Most of them
are based on low-frequency low-bandwith solutions, some of them might feature frequency band hopping. Lower bandwith RFID
systems have coverage problems and low mobility.
With Meshcom Modules and gateway access points, RFID integrators are capable of implementing a system that is cost-efficient, yet
has high-bandwith and throughput. MeshDriver ensures better data speed, since clients are are closer to access points, they can use
higher data rates. Better coverage is achieved, as multi-hopping gets around obstacles. Using Meshcom Modules enabled RFID
reader integrators are able to lower deployment costs since fewer sites need physical connections and less cabling. This results also in
greater mobility.
