History of Racism in the United States Essay
History of Racism in the United States
Strom Thurmond was a Democrat? George Bush was a strong opposer of black voting rights? Times
have certainly changed. Key events in US history; have led to moderate desegregation that
encompasses
our nation today. One must thoroughly investigate dates, and legislation between 1948 and 1980 to
fully
comprehend the nature of racism today. When investigating periods of African Americanhistory one
must
not only look at the superficial data, but undermining factors, which may have gone unnoticed by
the
public eye. These events are equally important to the legislation, which passed that will forever
change the
history of the United States.

not met, and Truman knew he must do something on the issue or else the worlds eye would once
again be
placed on the United States. Truman addressed the concern by addressing the nation that there shall
be
equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed forces. During the 1948 election
Truman
was not fearful of losing conservative votes; Truman was frightened because he knew the black
vote was
needed to win the election. The only reason Truman could lose the 1948 election would be because
of a
man named Henry Wallace, who ran a completely un segregated campaign. Truman knew Wallace
had to
be eliminated in the minds of blacks, so he chose to identify him with the communist party (Tyson,
64).
The ?Red Scare? of this time instilled fear in black organizations. Black associations wanted to be
known as
nationalistic organizations. Anything that resembled communism would set the equal rights
movement
back several years. Dixie Crats such, as Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms were appauled regarding
how
their Democratic associates were now treating race. These conservatives parted with the Democratic
Party
and created the States Rights Party. Later they joined forces with the Republican Party.
Truman won the 1948 election, and African Americans fulfilled a goal of letting the world know of
the
happenings in the United States. In 1948 the NAACP used the platform which was the United

The Economic, Economic And Economic Value Of Biodiversity
According to the National Geographic, a recent scientific study predicts that our planet is home to
8.7 million species; however, only about 1.2 million species are known (86 Percent of Earth s
Species Still Unknown?). The National Wildlife Federation defines biodiversity as, the variety of
life (What is Biodiversity?). It can be studied on a small scale, for example, species, or a larger
scale such as genetics and ecology. In order to fully understand the biodiversity of a certain
species, it s imperative to understand both their genes and environment, as well. Although many
people do not recognize the various species within our ecosystem as important, they are the main
reason life is sustainable. Biodiversity has extreme fundamental value to a healthy life and
ecosystem. It is the framework upon which we rely for our needs and well being. It provides us
with food resources, such as fruits and grains, as well as meat, fish, and milk products. Humans
are dependent on biodiversity for cultural, economic and environmental stability. For example,
farmers rely on bees to pollinate their crops, which allows for a greater supply of food and work.
The economic value of biodiversity stems from its production of many everyday essentials such
as food supplies, medicine, and raw materials. A healthy ecosystem can provide us with a source
of clean water, fresh food, and clean air (Value of Biodiversity). A healthy ecosystem can also
withstand disasters and recover sooner. These are

Locke And Descartes Argument Analysis
Everyone has their own beliefs about where ideas come from and how they are formed. Locke and
Descartes both had very different arguments about what the origin of these ideas was. Descartes
believed that the origin of ideas stemmed from imagination or reason and that we have been born
with all of the knowledgewe need; we just have to come to an experience or age where we will
know how to use it. Whereas Locke believed that the origin of ideas came from experience and we
have to learn everything we need to know. I agree with both arguments that these philosophers have
presented. Being an Education major and being required to study the ways in which children learn
and how their brains are formed has helped me see the flaws in their arguments,... Show more

But in reality children aren t aware of the sky being blue because they have to learn colors when
they go to school for the first time. For instance, it is seen that people in society that don t attend
school only know as much as they have seen in life or have experienced. Individuals evolve
based on their environment. Furthermore, no one person is born knowing that the sky is blue,
all children are supposed to learn colors when they start school or if their parents start working
on colors with them before they start school. Descartes to some extent was right about his ideas
because we know when children are born they cry because the hospital room is cold. They also
cry when they have a full diaper. This proves that infants have a minor sense of communication,
even though they may not understand that they are actually calling to their parents for help. So, it
can be said that humans are born knowing how to cry as a technique to let their loved ones realize
that they are distressed. No one taught them how to cry, babies are just able to come out of the
womb with the ability to cry as a temporary substitute until they can learn how to

Nervous Conditions ( Nc )
The present paper applies Ansgar NГјnning s cognitive narratological approach to the study of
narrative unreliability and its relationship to the processes of resistance and change in
Dangarembga s novel, Nervous Conditions (NC). It is argued here that the first person narrator of
the novel, Tambudzai Sigauke (Tambu), has a certain vision of change through which she hopes to
strike against both patriarchy and colonialism. Certain aspects of Tambu s narrativevoice, however,
lead the reader to doubt the authenticity of such a vision. Therefore, reading the novel in light of
the narratological concept of narrative unreliability provides insight into the success or failure of
Tambu s vision of change as presented in NC.
Dangarembga s Commonwealth Prize novel for Africa, NC, has received much critical
attention. Studies on the novel can be divided into different categories. Most of these studies,
however, focus on the feminist aspects of the text. Critics of Dangarembga s novel such as Nana
Wilson tagoe (2009), Carolyn Martin Shaw (2007), Pauline Ada Uwakweh (1995) and Rosemary
Moyana (1994) spot light on the dilemma of Zimbabwean women and the limited possibilities
before them owing to male domination on one hand, and the experience of colonialism on the
other hand. Other critics such as D. A. Odoi, Lesibana Rafapa and E. K. Klu (2014), Lily G. N.

IUPUI Women s Basketball Team
Team Dynamics Paper The IUPUI women s basketball team has improved greatly over the years.
While we are definitely a small division one school, we have certainly shined light upon our
name. IUPUI hasn t ever made it to the NCAA tournament, but my freshman year we made post
season play for the first time in school history. Since then we went on to make post season play
for another 2 years. My freshman year my team was very cliquey and we had very poor team
functioning skills. Our dysfunctions lingered into my sophomore year, and after a select few finally
graduated, we started seeing positive changes in team chemistry (my junior year). Unfortunately the
chemistry we had with each other was only indicative off of the court. We did not make post... Show

Though we want to keep the same culture with each team, we must be realistic. When the new
season arrives I truly do think that my team will revert back to the forming stage. When recruits
come to campus all of the players are nice to them because we have to be. Recruits are potential
future teammates and if they are on campus that means our coaches are interested in them. It is
then our job to sell our program to these recruits. In doing so, we only share positive things about
our school. Once these recruits sign the dotted line and join our team at IUPUI they learn for
themselves that we may have stretched the truth. For some, this is where they start to shy away.

know each other, and you aren t quite sure of where you fit in. Can you see how a team can fall

A Day At The Technology Student Association State Conference
The day my life flashed before my eyes started as though it was any other day at the Technology
Student Association State Conference. The day started out with anticipation and excitement for the
competitive events held that day. The only competitive event I was to participate in was the
Electrathon race, which was scheduled for later that afternoon. The Electrathon Race is an event
where we race student designed go kart sized vehicles that are powered by two twelve volt
batteries. The point of the race is to see how many laps you can go in one hour on one battery
charge. Even though I was not competing in an event that morning, I still had to dress in khaki
pants, a polo shirt, and closed toed loafers to enter and attended the conference sessions. Leaving
my hotelroom and stepping onto the elevator, I was ready for the day.
As I walked out of the revolving door of the Hilton I was excited but nervous for the events to
come that day. I crossed the street and headed into the Classic Center. Weaving through the
crowds of people I headed to the escalator to go down Grand Hall 8 to find my advisor. As I stepped
onto the escalator and headed down, my mind speed up and the nerves kicked in at full speed. I
stepped off the escalator and weaving through the crowd again to get to my destination. When I
arrived at Grand Hall 8, I found Mr. Morgan ,my advisor. He gave me keys to go check the trailer
for helmets.

The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Public Speaking
Although I have expressed a number of personal strengths associated with my public speaking, I
need to reference some of my weakness related to the issue.
First, although I am a good story teller, know how to use a light hearted joke once in a while, and
can formulate an impact title for my talks, I find it difficult to create a strong opener that will grab
the audience s attention, and imprint it with a sticky or thoroughline. Possibly the problem is I am
very conservative with the topics I choose, or I think others have already given powerful
messages on the subject, so there s nothing more I can add beyond what they have heard. In
reflecting over earlier ministry days, I can remember having a powerful opening twice. The first

Because I am a Type A person who has energy and is visionary, I regularly speak too fast. I
appreciate it when people politely remind me of this problem and I take steps to correct it. One
way I handle speed is by putting a large note Slow down, people need to understand and
comprehend what you re saying if you want them to respond positively. This works well for me
when I do it. However, if I am invited unexpectedly to speak as has happened frequently I forget
to make the note and slip into my old habits. I need to take greater responsibility in this area so my
messages and talks are received with greater understanding.
As stated, I enjoy public speaking. I believe it is a God given. Because of this, I need to
appreciate the positive elements that make my communication effective. With this, however, I also
need to take responsibility for my shortcomings and oversights. Paul, in Romans 12, strongly
suggests that as we recognize our gift giving, exhorting, administering, teaching and the like we
should do it in love and to the best of our ability. To do public speaking/ministry to the best of my
ability I, with the help of Toastmasters and similar clubs, will do everything within my power to
resolve the problems

Call of Duty and Halo are both FPS games. They might look similar but they each have its own

Designer Babies and Its Social Impacts
The two dominant forces of our universe are man and nature, they need to be existing in a delicate
equilibrium. One should not go beyond the other s dividing line, we as humans should not
meddling with nature and cross the line. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the point is emphasized
that the balance between man and Nature must be preserved. In the book, Dr. Victor Frankenstein
gives life to a creature constructed from the parts of dead humans. The creature was a hideous
abomination of unnatural origin, which makes him an outcast that has no place in our world. The

Advantages Of Measuring Body Fat
A common goal for anyone who goes for the first time in a gym is to give body fat a proper send
off. Body fat is the fat that you can see in the mirror. Once you get rid of unwanted fat, you will
be able to see more cuts . On the other hand, the higher it is, the more fat is covering your
muscles. Therefore, if you want to see more cuts , you need to shrink the layer of fat which is
under your skin and covers your muscles.
How can you determine the body fat percentage?
One of the most accurate and efficient way to determine this aspect is with a caliper. These
products are designed to clip the fat and measure it under the skin. There are multiple pinch tests,
but it s recommended to use a four or seven point caliper test. Whatever method you are going to
use, the key element is consistency. It s important to be as consistent as possible when taking the
measurements. In short words, you have to take them under the same conditions. For example, it s
advisable to do them in the morning after using the restroom, because this will eliminate any
discrepancies with fluctuation throughout the day. Additionally, you can also use other methods for

Definition Essay On Honesty
Best selling author and podcaster James Altucher once said Honesty is the fastest way to
prevent a mistake turning into a failure (Altucher). What Altucher was saying is, honesty is a
great help in pulling you out of bad situations before they can turn even worse in your life. There
are many ways for honesty to work out positively in our lives, it can show a sense of trust within
yourself or others you come in contact with. Honesty is also a big part of our lives in our wider
culture by being able to express opinions towards various subjects. There are many ways where
there is honesty in what goes on in our lives, in television, writing, and everyday conversations.
Being honest can be seen as an award for telling the truth and not hiding it. It also promoted a
sense of trust between you and the people around you to show that you are a person of your word.
Honesty is also to show self improvement, that you are able to be honest with yourself and the

am honest I gain respect and attention by how I handled myself. When talking to my peers or

of myself, not someone that only acts a certain way because of who I am talking to. When I
have been honest I developed great relationships with the teachers of my high school and now the
professors at my university. I am able to express opinions towards them that others may not want

Social stereotypes and happiness
The story of the movie The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele Muccino portrays a family
who struggles with finding enough money to pay taxes and afford living expenses. The movie
takes a place in San Francisco during the 80s. The two main characters are the father Chris
Gardner and his son Christopher, Will Smith and Jaden Smith respectively. Gardner tries to support
his family. But every time he attempts to make things better, they always end up worse. Gardner in
the story wonders on how to be happy? He earns his money by selling the bone density ... Show

In another perspective, fatherhood for Gardner is like a job for him. Because he loses his wife,
he needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do.
Those fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend
most of their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like
Chris gives him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife s role to have a better life
with his son. Yet, this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott
Coltrane, a sociologist at the University of California, points out that Father s style of parenting
has changed too. Fathers are beginning to look more like mothers (qtd. in Cullen and
Grossman). Before Linda leaves the family, she works double shifts to make more money to
afford the living expenses and to help her husband. So Chris is the one who takes more care of
their son than the mother, Linda. Gardner seems to be happier being close to his son. There are
many scenes in the movie that show how Gardner and Christopher are happy of being together.
Nonetheless, there is only one scene that Christopher not even misses his mother; instead he asks
did mom leave because of me? (The Pursuit of Happyness). This indicates that Gardner does a great
job of being a single parent that makes his son, not remembering his mother. For fathers, home

Leadership Is The Best Leadership
Leadership is fundamental to every successful process known to mankind. There must always be
someone who is willing to initiate the first step, and by example, others are given inspiration or
purpose to follow suit. Though many definitions exist, Josh Kuehler captures the essence of
leadership in business by noting Leadership is the ability to inspire motivation in others to move
toward a desirable vision. While management is focused on tasks, leadership is focused on the
person. All in all, the best leadership drives change and long lasting motivation. (Helmrich, 2015, p.
1) Given the thousands of leadership definitions, why did I choose this one? Because it clearly
highlights a clear difference between leadership and management. Leadership is about people, not
about processes, and people enable a strong ethics program. Therefore, my belief is that leadership,
not management is the primary catalyst behind a flexible yet sustainable ethics program in any
organization, private or public. Whether establishing, modifying, or cultivating a successful ethics
program, leadership involvement at all levels of an organization is absolutely paramount.
I ll use our very own United States Air Force as an example, as I spent 23 years in the organization.
I feel confident that I can demonstrate how the Air Force has adapted the seven Federal Sentencing
Guidelines for Organizations (FSGO) requirements of an effective compliance and ethics program.

Phases Of Daniel Feldmen s Three-Phase Model Of...
The process of looking and getting hired for a new job can be overwhelming. This doesn t just
include individuals who are new to applying to jobs, but employees who are looking to get
promoted within their company. They are both similar situations in which you need to do research
on the job prior to applying, go through an orientation process, and become integrated into that role
after gaining a clear understanding of your responsibilities. It can be challenging, but thankfully,
companies have implemented programs of organizational socializationto provide support to new
employees while they adapt to their new environment. To fully understand the impact organizational
socialization has on new employees and how organizations can better apply this with new
employees, I will discuss each phase of Daniel Feldmen s three phase model of organizational
socialization.
The three phase model of organizational socialization created by Daniel Feldmen was created to
help organizations and new employees understand how without proper socialization employees will
likely not stay and develop their careers within that organization. The book defines organizational
socialization as the process by which individuals acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and
behavior required to assume a work role and that unstructured socialization is associated with
decreased learning, performance, and satisfaction (Kinicki and Fugate, 2017, p. 571).

The Policies of Lenin and Stalin Essay
Identified within this study is the argument that whilst many of Lenin s theories and practices were
continued under Stalin, many were in fact developed and extended to new levels, possibly
reflecting different motives: what Pipes refers to as Stalin s personality of excesses . Although for
many years, numerous historians including both members of the Western school of thought (such
as Pipes), along with the official Soviet historians of the time believed that Stalin was the natural
heir of Lenin, opinions have changed with time. As more evidence came out of Stalin s mass
atrocities, the Soviet historians soon began to see Stalin as the betrayer of the revolution as Trotsky

According to this view, had Lenin lived, these policies would probably have been reversed as
political and economic stability was restored, and certainly would not have given rise to the
mass extermination of millions of peasants and party members, which prevailed under Stalin in
the 1930s. In scrutinising the actions of Stalin, I have examined especially how they differed
from those of Lenin, and in what ways the motives for similar actions changed. One aspect of
continuity is reflected in the control and influence that both Lenin and Stalin had over their
parties. In 1921, Lenin effectively destroyed democracy in the party through his ban of
factionalism. Although this was used to end the problem of splits (during the crisis of the same
year), many see it as a key factor in allowing Stalin to rise to power. Stalin often accused people
of factionalism (e.g. Trotsky, Zinoviev, Kamenev) as a response to any challenges to his

Descriptive Adjectives And Dialogue In The Pigman By Paul...
Description begins in the writer s imagination but should end in the reader s. Writing good
dialogue is art as well as craft. Descriptive adjectives really help the readers see what it s like to
be in the story and imagine what the characters look like and feel like at that moment. Dialogue
helps the reader see the story from their point of view and shows us what they think of something
else. In the story The Pigmanby Paul Zindel, the author uses descriptive adjectives and dialogue to
develop the story. Without descriptive adjectives, the reader won t be able to see or imagine
how the characters look like, how the setting is described and you won t be able to know the
characters emotion. Six feet tall, longish brown hair and blue eyes. As you can see, this helps
the readers visualize how that character looks like so without descriptive adjectives, you
wouldn t be able to imagine how the character looks. He was in his late fifties and was pretty big,
and he had a bit of a beer stomach. From this quote you can see this shows he s old and don t
take care of himself as much, so you can see how the character is like and act with descriptive
adjective. At the top of the stairs was this plain old bathroom with a shower curtain that had all
kinds of fish designs on it... The ceiling slanted on the far side, and there was only one window.
After looking at this quote, you can tell that without descriptive adjectives you won t be able to
visualize the setting which can connect to how the characters feel in a way. To break this all
down, without descriptive adjectives it would leave us clueless and confused because we won t
know anything about the characters(looks, emotions) and setting which would make the story
perplexing and complicated. Dialogue is important because it helps us see things from the
characters point of view, and we know what they think of something or someone else based on
what they say and think. If Freud smokes, why can t I? Freud doesn t smoke anymore I told him.
He s dead. This shows that John is a witty young man with a strong attitude. So without dialogue
you can t really say much about the characters, and how they re like like it shows in the quote. I m
thinking of becoming an

The Rock Of Rock And Roll
Since the beginning of time there has always been music in the world. The Native Americans
had their tribal music, which was used for healing, ceremonies, and ancient rituals. Ever since
the beginning of the 20th century there has been rock and roll. Rock and roll has changed
drastically over the years. In my opinion, it is possibly one of the most important genres there is.
1950s: The Birth of Rock and Roll This was the decade that rock and roll first emerged. Even
though swing music was still popular it was time for rock to enjoy the limelight. In its earliest
stages rock could be described as blues with electric guitar. The first widely known Rock Star was

1970s: Rock becomes big business After the Vietnam war had ended the people, and music began
to settle down. The early 70s marked the deaths of many artists, and the breakup of The Beatles.
Psychedelic music declines but bands such as Led Zepplin have created their own sound. The
perfect blend of blues and hard rock. Later on a band called The Ramones made their own pre
genre of rock...punk. This intense genre of teenage rage and rock and roll influenced many
bands in the future. In the 1970s FM radio starts to play rock music, car stereos become common
also. Early 70s are dominated by soft rock and singer, songwriters. Reggae moves away from
Jamaica to become a world wide genre. Disco dominates the radio and dance floors in the late
70s. Popular disco groups include: Abba, Bees Gees, Kool and the gang, Earth, wind, and Fire.
Those are just a few but there is many more where that comes from, In all honesty the 70s was a
great decade, movie tickets were just 1.50, what s not to love about that?!

coffee consumers are more exposed to Western influences and tend to look up to Western lifestyles.
Manufacturers have targeted Westernized young professionals as the main target market for coffee.
Another large consumer group, which influences the coffee consumption, is returnees. China has

Beowulf, the Epic Hero
Beowulf, the Epic Hero
There have been many grand stories about great warriors, and champions; those about epic heroes
however, are the truly exceptional tales. One such tale, over a thousand years old, stands out from
all the rest: Beowulf, the tale of a great warrior, on his quest to achieve eternal glory, defeating great
opponents. Throughout the whole story, Beowulf demonstrates most if not all of the qualities that
an archetypal hero possesses. He embodies the highest ideals of his culture, travels to find
adventure, and is not emotionally connected to his followers. Beowulf undertakes his journey to
achieve something of great value to himself and society, defeats monsters, yet maintains humanity.
Although Beowulf experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later in life, when Beowulf is crowned King, he asserts himself greater by chasing after the
Dragon, to protect his kingdom.
Another obvious heroic characteristic that Beowulf portrays is the defeat of monsters and other
malevolence. He does this throughout the story, not only using brute force, but also cunning
tactics, such as the time when he attacks Grendel s extremely sensitive ears. Beowulf also
disposes of Grendel s Mother, using a gigantic sword in her lair to decapitate her, and ends the
reign of terror on the Danes. Years later, after Beowulf is crowned King, his land is assailed by
the Dragon. This epic battle proves just how valiant Beowulf actually is, going after the beast
single handedly, instead of endangering any of his men. It is a long, hard fought battle, in which
Beowulf contests with all his might. Beowulf ultimately kills the Dragon rips out its heart , but not
without a price; the battle costs the King his life.
Although the acts of battle and heroism that Beowulf performs are anything but human, he manages
to maintain a sense of benevolence. During a Frisian invasion, in which the assailants are no match
for the Geats and Danes, Beowulf states, This is not battle, Wiglaf. This is slaughter. When a
prisoner is captured in this battle, Beowulf prevents the men from teasing and ridiculing him,
demanding that they kill him swiftly, and respectfully. When this man, Finn of Frisia,

Essay Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin was one of the biggest mass murderers of the twentieth century. From the purges in
the Red Army to forced relocations, Stalin had the blood of millions on his hands. This essay is
not going to debate the fact that this was indeed a brutal and power hungry individual, because he
was indeed just that. I will on the other hand show you that through his way of governing the Soviet
Union, he actually saved mother Russia from the German invasion in World War Two through his
cunning and ruthlessness.
Joseph Stalin was a very industrious person and used every means possible to better prepare his
country for the coming war that he believed was inevitable. Wether it was diplomatic plotting,

E. Zinoviev and L. B. Kamenev. From this point on Stalin simply concentrated more and more
power into his own hands. In 1925 Stalin made a turn to the right, got rid of his two companions
and established a coalition with moderate leaders Burkharin, Rykov, and Tomsky, which lasted until
1928, when collectivization of agriculture and the forced industrialization came about.
Stalin now followed a simple pattern, he simply systematically replaced all those who were not
his absolute followers. By 1930 his rule was absolute. Stalin was now free to go ahead and
pursue his plans to industrialize and arm the Soviet Union. The only other obstacle in his path
was the army leadership. Stalin viewed the army as a threat to his power and took steps to
remove that threat. He organized all of his followers to delve into the lives of the military
leadership and find out if they were traitors. Many of Stalin s followers used this as a way of
getting back at old rivals and enemies. All kinds of false evidence was manufactured. Stalin took
all of this at face value and a great number of the army leadership was either killed or exiled.
There were also several show trials put on to demonstrate to the Soviet people that all of the
killing was being done for a reason and that there really were conspirators and spies among them.
Several accused openly confessed to active membership of a plot to murder the Soviet leadership.
With the Army purges done, Stalin

The Character Of Romeo Montague in William Shakespeare s...
The Character Of Romeo Montague in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Romeo is one
of the main characters in Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet and is portrayed as a tragic figure,
who is guided by his destiny. Shakespeare initially introduces Romeo to be a romantic
sentimentalist, who is over obsessed with his own emotions. Romeo, however, loses these
personality traits towards the end of the play, and becomes more mature after falling deeply in love
with Juliet. His love for her is strong and over whelming, and Shakespeare vividly represents this by
dramatic visual moments throughout the play, culminating in the tragic climax of Romeo s suicide,
to join with his Juliet in death.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the many themes that Shakespeare provides to suggest foreboding early on in the
play. The omen is ambiguous as it firstly implies Romeo is worrying about something that will
not happen and is generally nervous about arriving uninvited. However, it could imply that in
going to the Ball, he will meet Juliet, which will cause drastic events to happen, and eventually
lead to both their deaths. This is one of the main themes during the play and is successfully
entwined in Romeo s script to introduce foreboding to the audience without the character realising
it. He disregards the omen, and continues with his friends to the Ball. On arrival, he seeks
Rosaline, but his attentions rapidly divert to Juliet Capulet, She seems to hang upon the cheek of
night displays Romeo s persona to be fickle and to have a fluctuating nature. He had before
thought Rosaline to be beautiful, but now he sees Juliet as the most beautiful woman in the world.
This is one of the more romantic traits of Romeo, and Shakespeare uses many metaphors and
similes in Romeo s speech and successfully interlaces them to represent the poetic and child like
wonder that Romeo experiences when he sets eyes on Juliet. Romeo s role is consistent throughout
as The Romantic Lover ,

Symbolism In The Legend By Marie Lu
Everyone needs hope in their lives for the good times and the bad. Hope is an essential part of
human life, which is sometimes symbolized into objects. Legend by Marie Lu is a dystopian

Day s pendant to symbolize the hope and freedom Day and June yearn for. In the beginning of
Legend, Marie Lu uses Day s pendant to symbolize the hope and freedom that he lost after

Well, this is possible by simply using the control panel and selecting what specialty applies. How
exactly does this machine work with all specialties? Orthodontics is the treatment of irregularities in
the teeth and jaw. To treat this, we would use braces to correct the irregularities. Most common at
an orthodontist office they would just take a Panoramic and use that to tell what treatment needs
to be done but with the machine it shows the exact relationship of all the surrounding anatomy, it
also shows the limitations of tooth movement that can be done but most importantly it can show
you everything you need to see with minimal radiation. Implantology is a dental technique that
allows for replacement of either single teeth or entire arches by fixing ceramic teeth on top of
these specifically designed implants . The PreXion can help with this specific specialty by
quickly mapping nerves, assessing the bone quantity and quality and determining the proper
implant angulation and position. In the Oral Surgery Department, this machine would be useful
in a way that you can clearly see wisdom teeth and supernumerary teeth, properly diagnose cysts,
tumors, and lesions and Identify sinus walls, never positioning as well as other vital structures
and locations located throughout the head and neck regions. Periodontics is the branch of
dentistry concerned with the structures surrounding and supporting the teeth. In this specialty, it
is extremely important to identify disease and pathology and this machine can clearly show
infection by being able to focus on a pinpointed area. It also can evaluate bone loss and defects.
The specialty of root canals is called Endodontics. With the CBCT machine the operator has the
ability to see the canals that are not visible in 2D and they can identify lesions and abscesses by
using a variety of desktop view. A good one to detect and abscess would be the coronal view or the

management integration, as well as, the challenges and practices within a global supply chain.
Canadian Tire s Main Supply Chain Strategies
Canadian Tire in the past couple of years had been marked by the increase of economic volatility.
But it was impacted with economic recession and fluctuations of clients demand and supply delay
in raw commodity, material, fuel prices. Hence, Supply Chain Executives were facing pressure to
develop/Execute strategies more efficient, customer centric on SC (Supply Chain) and look for

thousands of years. It is cheaper than prescription medications, and one would not have to worry
about all the possible side effects that prescription medications contribute to, as in effects on the
heart, kidneys, and liver. Pharmacies will be hit the hardest when medical marijuana is
legalized. It is cheaper for patients to grow their own medication. Some scientists are still
working on how they can make a synthetic form of THC that can be put into capsule form. Is a
synthetic form safe? This is still unclear. Physicians who are able to prescribe medical marijuana

Quantum Teleportation And Its Effect On Human Life
Since 1993, when the concept was first introduced by Bennett et al., numerous attempt have been
made to practically implement Quantum teleportation. Quantum teleportation was first
demonstrated with entangled photons[11] in 1997. Later, various developments have been
achieved in laboratory, including the demonstration of entanglement swapping[12], open
destination teleportation[13] and teleportation of two bit composite system[14]. Entanglement
distribution has been shown with fiber links[15 18]. In addition, practical quantum teleportation
have been realized via fiber links[19, 20] and limited to a distance of about one kilometer.
Experiments have achieved free space distribution of entangled photon pairs over distances of 600
m[21] and 13 km[22]. Later, entangled photons were transmitted over 144 km[23, 24]. In these
experiments, either only one photon was transmitted[23] or the entangled photon pair was
transferred together[24] using only a one link channel. Most recently, following a modified
scheme[25], quantum teleportation over a 16 km free space links was demonstrated[26] with a
single pair of entangled photons. However in this experiment, the unknown quantum state must be
prepared on one of the resource entangled qubits and therefore cannot be presented independently.
Quantum cryptography, specifically Quantum key distribution is one important field where
quantum teleportation can be practically applied to provide completely secure information

What Is The Meaning Behind Mississippi Burning
Within American history, the year 1964 stands out to the nation as the year that was faced with the
civil rights movement. Altogether, with various events that occured over the course of the year, it
caught the attention of many Americans and showed that progress was being made as well as
there was hope that a country where all men are truly created equal could exist. The movie titled
Mississippi Burning does an admirable job at revealing the internal battle that our nation was going
through at this time and is an important film to be shown to young generations so that we are not
doomed to repeat events of our past.
The film Mississippi Burning starts out by displaying how three Civil Rights Workers get tailed,
caught, and murdered in the woods by members of the Ku Klux Klan. The movie reveals to
viewers, through conversation, the clashing personalities of the two FBI agents, Agent Ward and
Agent Anderson, who came to Mississippi to investigate the missing persons case of the three
boys. It becomes obvious over the course of the film that the two agents do not exactly see eye to
eye on how to operate the investigation, including tactics to get the information they need. In
addition, unfortunately, the two agents find out pretty quickly that they are not welcome in the
town, as it is essentially a community run by the KKK. Many of the businesses in the town, and
even the police department are controlled by members of the Klan, making it a society full of
racist hatred. The two agents, after not being able to get very far on their own, call for
reinforcements to assist with finding information for their investigation. A large amount of FBI
agents as well as numerous members of the Navy Reserve are sent to help in the search for the
three missing boys. As the two agents get closer and closer to finding the truth about the murders,
they are constantly surrounded by the Klan s leaders including Clayton Townley and Deputy
Clinton Pell. Agent Anderson, being originally from the South knows Mississippians view on
African Americans and realizes that any white citizen would be scared to death at the sight of an
African American having the upper hand over them and wanting revenge on members of the Klan.

Feminism And The Second Wave
Unlike the First and the Second waves the Third wave does not have a starting point or a
particular moment. The period from early 1990 s to present is often defined as the Third wave.
This wave is considered as the backlash of the movements and achievements made in the second
wave. Many issues like Webster decision in 1989, that made a way to create abortion laws and
Planned Parenthood Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey made a law that women
should get counseling before abortion led to the lesser chances of availability of abortion. Since
then, even the education in abortion was also seemed to gradually decrease. By 1990, there had
been bombings on the abortion clinics. Also in 1976 , Snuff, a porographic film pushed women
to form a Women against Violence in Pornograohy and Media as they realized that pornography
degrades women of her standards and ultimately leads to rape and violence. Many feminists
believed that pornography violates women s rights. Media played a major role in reflecting the
views of women to be called feminists. This wave particularly focuses on intersectionality.
Women of color also expressed their thoughts of being divided on the basis of color and what it
means to them to be a feminist. Some of the papers like This Bridge Called My Back, took birth
which portraits the concerns of women of color and third world women and are also significant to
those involved in the third wave. Many feminist writers like Bell Hooks, Audre

Factors Of An Authoritarian Government In The Movie V For...
People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people. In
an authoritarian government, the citizens listen to their director because they have this fear within
them, that if they do not do what is asked of them they will face consequences. But in reality, the
citizens have power over the government and the government is the one that is living in fear. At
any moment someone can threaten the government. This has been seen through terrorist acts such
as 9/11 terror attacks, and this has been demonstrated in the movie V For Vendetta. In the movie V
For Vendetta, V attempts to bring freedom and justice into a society that has been corrupt from
having an authoritarian government. He threatens the government and tells them a year in advance
that he will blow up the most important building in their city, but the government was not able to

the government, and that the government creates fear. The citizens or as called in an authoritarian

A Comparison Of The Disney Hercules And Disney Hercules
Ancient Greeks followed myths and teachings of gods and heroes called Greek Mythology.
Gods/desses exist in greek mythology to symbolize events such as weather changes to religious
rituals, these stories help set up a social system while also occupying kids minds with thoughts
such as where people go when they die. Demi gods are the results of a god and a human making
love, they have the appearance of a human, but have better traits than most and are also
immortal. Hercules is known for his immense strength from him being a son of Zeus but also a
mortal mother. Hercules was very kind and caring, and was the only son of a mortal woman
who became a god before dying. We will be discussing the Disney Hercules and the Dwayne
Hercules. The Disney movie introduces a child friendly hercules who ends up learning a
valuable lesson in the end and becomes a hero. The Dwayne Johnson movie introduces a more
realistic hercules who travels the world with his band of mercenaries accomplishing difficult
tasks for money and other rewards. The Disney version makes Hercules more friendly and less
realistic which is ineffective to the myth itself, but the Dwayne version makes Hercules very
realistic which helps make the story effective. The changes the Disney and Dwayne make to
Hercule s birth and early life and his own family are both effective in their own ways. Zeus falls
in love Alcmene and makes her pregnant, they name the baby Hercules to honor Zeus s wife,
Hera. Hera was still mad though so she sends snakes to kill Hercules, but he was so strong that
he killed them with his bare hands. Hercules then grows up, marries Megara and has kids, but
Hera sends Hercules into madness and makes him murder his wife and kids, he then has to
repent for his sins with the 12 labors. In the Disney version, Hercules is made to be an actual god
and the child of Zeus and Hera, Hades with his evil plans sends his minions to kidnap Hercules
and make him mortal but Hercules doesn t drink the last drop of formula, letting him keep his
strength. Hercule the grows up with mortal parents but realizes eventually that he has super
strength and that he is not a normal boy. These changes are effective for the audience as Hercules
was originally a hero

The First Amendment Rights
Our world is changing and so are our rights. The First Amendment, freedom of speech, is taking the
world by storm. Whether it be at sporting events or on college campuses, our First Amendment
rights must be upheld. College is meant to provide each student with knowledge; ensuring they
experience viewpoints from thousands of people, and taking away our First Amendment rights is
taking away our opportunity to learn and further our education. 2017 isn t the first time the First
Amendment has been brought up for debate on college campuses. Kent State is one of the most
violent and unconstitutional violations of First Amendment rights on a college campus. The
spirited young adults protesting the war at Kent State were not rebelling, they were only sharing the
knowledge they valued deeply. Students were killed and nine injured when members of the Ohio
National Guard opened fire during a demonstration protesting the Vietnam War. (Rosenberg). The
students protesting the Vietnam war were giving others the opportunity to see something from a
different perspective; this is the goal for liberal education. These student s ideas were suppressed
and limited because they were not popular ideas. The goal of getting a higher education is to
expand your thoughts and experience different beliefs. Not only were lives taken this day, but

others understand their antiwar convictions. Taking away these

Literary Criticism of Swift’s Poetry Essay
Literary Criticism of Swift s Poetry
In her article, Voyeurism in Swift s Poetry, Louise K. Barnett explores the trend of voyeurism m
the works of Jonathan Swift. She speaks broadly about the use of this technique in his work and
concentrates on a few poems including The Lady s Dressing Room. Barnett believes that Swift s
poetry tends to be more voyeuristic than it is obsessed with excrement and decay. To support this,
she maintains that each poem centers around the experience of seeing the obscenity (i.e. The Lady s
Dressing Room revolves around Strephon s response to Celia s dirt and dung) rather than the
obscenity.

. . once removed from the experience depicted and also distanced from it both by our lack of
responsibility for it and by the medium of language. Conveniently, there is a primary voyeur
who can absorb the opprobrium attached to the forbidden looking, leaving us guiltlessly looking
at words. 18 Barnett makes the distinction between active and passive voyeurism. Swift acts as
the active voyeur insofar that he had to actually wander around a lady s dressing room or watch
a lady strip in order to be able to write his poems. The reader assumes the role of the passive
voyeur, the one who simply listens to or reads the exploits of the active voyeur. However, Barnett
maintains, the passive voyeur stills looks or reads. By choosing to read, [continuing to read,] and
thus recreate the voyeuristic experience, we become implicated, seeing what the poem sees. (18))
Even though the reader is twice removed from the active voyeur in The Lady s Dressing Room,
(Strephon tells the tale to the narrator who tells the tale to the reader) he or she still becomes a
voyeur because he or she continues to read just as the narrator continues his tale despite his protests
to the contrary. This voyeuristic technique entraps the reader, drawing the reader in only to shame
him or her.
However, Barnett claims, the reader rationalizes the experience. First, the reader recognizes his or
her role as a passive voyeur. Then, the

Birth Defect Effect
There is no greater disability in society than the inability to see a person as more. Robert M. Hensel
says that, to look at a person with a disability and think nothing more of them is a disability for us.
Birth defects are abnormalities mostly found in infants. There are many issues that come along with
having a birth defect but some can be prevented. Analyzing all that is known in accordance to birth
defects can help us look for more solutions in minimizing birth defect rates. For this reason
education for pregnant women regarding birth defects needs to be more prevalent in the medical
community. Learning about birth defects and the importance of preventing them can benefit the
community greatly to have a healthier community. By learning... Show more content on

Because of all the research that has been done on birth defects, there is now a new technology
that helps the situation in regards to birth defects. One of these technologies is a robot used to
aid in treatment. Researchers at the University of Sheffield, Boston s Children Hospital and
Harvard Medical School developed a robot that is used to aid the treatment of oesophageal
atresia (Biotech Week 1). Oesophageal atresia is a rare genetic birth defect where the upper and
lower parts of the oesophagus don t connect. The research spent on this project shows how
important education of birth defects is important even to doctors and health scientists in order to
improve the technology for birth defects. The more they learn about birth defects and the science
behind it, the more developments there will be in this field. The new robot makes it easier and
less stressful for the patient and those surrounding the patient. The child is able to move around
and live normally as they undergo their treatment (Biotech Week 1). Since the robot is inside the
child, they are able to interact and do what they want as the robot repairs the tissue inside. Another
benefit is that with this robot they are able to improve in the medical field. We further want to look
at other tubular tissues, such as intestine and the vascular system, to see if this technology can be

Vollmann Poor People
Nelson Mandela once said, Poverty is not natural it s man made. This quote states that a person
can overcome poverty if one has the desire to live a better life. In a novel called Poor People
written by William T. Vollmann, the author travels around different countries and places to learn
about poor people and to get a global perspective view. While interviewing different kinds of
people, Vollmann would ask them one question: why are you poor? Looking at people s answers
Vollmann noticed that some of the people gave quite interesting answers. Vollmann went through a
lot of situations where he just couldn t imagine what life would be if he was ever to live like that.
Another novelthat has a similar povertysituation is called Let The Water Hold Me Down, written
by Michael Spurgeon. Hank, the main character of the novel, experiences a tragic moment in his
life. Losing his wife and daughter while drowning, this tragedy left him feeling like it s all due
to his miscarrying about them. His life becomes full of sorrow, and the only way out it was to
go to Mexico to his friend s place and restart his life over. In a new country of Mexico, this story
takes place. Even though he had money, a house, and friends support, he still experienced lots of
pressure trying to survive in Mexico. Poverty has different meanings in everyone s lives but by
reading these two novels, there are three similarities that can be made about people living in poverty.

Times have certainly changed. Key events in US history; have led to moderate desegregation that encompasses our nation today. One must thoroughly investigate dates, and legislation between 1948 and 1980 to fully comprehend the nature of racism today. When investigating periods of African Americanhistory one must not only look at the superficial data, but undermining factors, which may have gone unnoticed by the public eye. • 6. The Economic, Economic And Economic Value Of Biodiversity According to the National Geographic, a recent scientific study predicts that our planet is home to 8.7 million species; however, only about 1.2 million species are known (86 Percent of Earth s Species Still Unknown?). The National Wildlife Federation defines biodiversity as, the variety of life (What is Biodiversity?). It can be studied on a small scale, for example, species, or a larger scale such as genetics and ecology. In order to fully understand the biodiversity of a certain species, it s imperative to understand both their genes and environment, as well. Although many people do not recognize the various species within our ecosystem as important, they are the main reason life is sustainable. Biodiversity has extreme fundamental value to a healthy life and ecosystem. It is the framework upon which we rely for our needs and well being. It provides us with food resources, such as fruits and grains, as well as meat, fish, and milk products. Humans are dependent on biodiversity for cultural, economic and environmental stability. For example, farmers rely on bees to pollinate their crops, which allows for a greater supply of food and work. The economic value of biodiversity stems from its production of many everyday essentials such as food supplies, medicine, and raw materials. A healthy ecosystem can provide us with a source of clean water, fresh food, and clean air (Value of Biodiversity). A healthy ecosystem can also withstand disasters and recover sooner. These are ... • 7. Locke And Descartes Argument Analysis Everyone has their own beliefs about where ideas come from and how they are formed. Locke and Descartes both had very different arguments about what the origin of these ideas was. Descartes believed that the origin of ideas stemmed from imagination or reason and that we have been born with all of the knowledgewe need; we just have to come to an experience or age where we will know how to use it. Whereas Locke believed that the origin of ideas came from experience and we have to learn everything we need to know. I agree with both arguments that these philosophers have presented. Being an Education major and being required to study the ways in which children learn and how their brains are formed has helped me see the flaws in their arguments,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But in reality children aren t aware of the sky being blue because they have to learn colors when they go to school for the first time. For instance, it is seen that people in society that don t attend school only know as much as they have seen in life or have experienced. Individuals evolve based on their environment. Furthermore, no one person is born knowing that the sky is blue, all children are supposed to learn colors when they start school or if their parents start working on colors with them before they start school. Descartes to some extent was right about his ideas because we know when children are born they cry because the hospital room is cold. They also cry when they have a full diaper. This proves that infants have a minor sense of communication, even though they may not understand that they are actually calling to their parents for help. So, it can be said that humans are born knowing how to cry as a technique to let their loved ones realize that they are distressed. No one taught them how to cry, babies are just able to come out of the womb with the ability to cry as a temporary substitute until they can learn how to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Nervous Conditions ( Nc ) The present paper applies Ansgar NГјnning s cognitive narratological approach to the study of narrative unreliability and its relationship to the processes of resistance and change in Dangarembga s novel, Nervous Conditions (NC). It is argued here that the first person narrator of the novel, Tambudzai Sigauke (Tambu), has a certain vision of change through which she hopes to strike against both patriarchy and colonialism. Certain aspects of Tambu s narrativevoice, however, lead the reader to doubt the authenticity of such a vision. Therefore, reading the novel in light of the narratological concept of narrative unreliability provides insight into the success or failure of Tambu s vision of change as presented in NC. Dangarembga s Commonwealth Prize novel for Africa, NC, has received much critical attention. Studies on the novel can be divided into different categories. Most of these studies, however, focus on the feminist aspects of the text. Critics of Dangarembga s novel such as Nana Wilson tagoe (2009), Carolyn Martin Shaw (2007), Pauline Ada Uwakweh (1995) and Rosemary Moyana (1994) spot light on the dilemma of Zimbabwean women and the limited possibilities before them owing to male domination on one hand, and the experience of colonialism on the other hand. Other critics such as D. A. Odoi, Lesibana Rafapa and E. K. Klu (2014), Lily G. N. Mabura (2010), Katwiwa Mule (2006), Lindsay Pentolfe Aegerter (1996) and Janice E. Because he loses his wife, he needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do. Those fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend most of their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like Chris gives him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife s role to have a better life with his son. Yet, this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott Coltrane, a sociologist at the University of California, points out that Father s style of parenting has changed too. Fathers are beginning to look more like mothers (qtd. in Cullen and Grossman). Before Linda leaves the family, she works double shifts to make more money to afford the living expenses and to help her husband. • 19. Leadership Is The Best Leadership Leadership is fundamental to every successful process known to mankind. There must always be someone who is willing to initiate the first step, and by example, others are given inspiration or purpose to follow suit. Though many definitions exist, Josh Kuehler captures the essence of leadership in business by noting Leadership is the ability to inspire motivation in others to move toward a desirable vision. While management is focused on tasks, leadership is focused on the person. All in all, the best leadership drives change and long lasting motivation. (Helmrich, 2015, p. 1) Given the thousands of leadership definitions, why did I choose this one? Because it clearly highlights a clear difference between leadership and management. Leadership is about people, not about processes, and people enable a strong ethics program. Therefore, my belief is that leadership, not management is the primary catalyst behind a flexible yet sustainable ethics program in any organization, private or public. Whether establishing, modifying, or cultivating a successful ethics program, leadership involvement at all levels of an organization is absolutely paramount. The three phase model of organizational socialization created by Daniel Feldmen was created to help organizations and new employees understand how without proper socialization employees will likely not stay and develop their careers within that organization. The book defines organizational socialization as the process by which individuals acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behavior required to assume a work role and that unstructured socialization is associated with decreased learning, performance, and satisfaction (Kinicki and Fugate, 2017, p. 571). Although for many years, numerous historians including both members of the Western school of thought (such as Pipes), along with the official Soviet historians of the time believed that Stalin was the natural heir of Lenin, opinions have changed with time. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this view, had Lenin lived, these policies would probably have been reversed as political and economic stability was restored, and certainly would not have given rise to the mass extermination of millions of peasants and party members, which prevailed under Stalin in the 1930s. In scrutinising the actions of Stalin, I have examined especially how they differed from those of Lenin, and in what ways the motives for similar actions changed. One aspect of continuity is reflected in the control and influence that both Lenin and Stalin had over their parties. In 1921, Lenin effectively destroyed democracy in the party through his ban of factionalism. Although this was used to end the problem of splits (during the crisis of the same year), many see it as a key factor in allowing Stalin to rise to power. Stalin often accused people of factionalism (e.g. Trotsky, Zinoviev, Kamenev) as a response to any challenges to his authority. It also created a situation that allowed the party leadership to do what it wanted and dismiss any opposition. Pipes argues that as a result of this, the Bolsheviks were carefully coerced into always following Lenin s will, and that his policy of democratic centralism was merely a faГ§ade like many of the other ... • 23. Descriptive Adjectives And Dialogue In The Pigman By Paul... Description begins in the writer s imagination but should end in the reader s. Writing good dialogue is art as well as craft. Descriptive adjectives really help the readers see what it s like to be in the story and imagine what the characters look like and feel like at that moment. Dialogue helps the reader see the story from their point of view and shows us what they think of something else. In the story The Pigmanby Paul Zindel, the author uses descriptive adjectives and dialogue to develop the story. Without descriptive adjectives, the reader won t be able to see or imagine how the characters look like, how the setting is described and you won t be able to know the characters emotion. Six feet tall, longish brown hair and blue eyes. As you can see, this helps the readers visualize how that character looks like so without descriptive adjectives, you wouldn t be able to imagine how the character looks. He was in his late fifties and was pretty big, and he had a bit of a beer stomach. From this quote you can see this shows he s old and don t take care of himself as much, so you can see how the character is like and act with descriptive adjective. At the top of the stairs was this plain old bathroom with a shower curtain that had all kinds of fish designs on it... The ceiling slanted on the far side, and there was only one window. After looking at this quote, you can tell that without descriptive adjectives you won t be able to visualize the setting which can connect to how the characters feel in a way. To break this all down, without descriptive adjectives it would leave us clueless and confused because we won t know anything about the characters(looks, emotions) and setting which would make the story perplexing and complicated. Dialogue is important because it helps us see things from the characters point of view, and we know what they think of something or someone else based on what they say and think. If Freud smokes, why can t I? Freud doesn t smoke anymore I told him. He s dead. This shows that John is a witty young man with a strong attitude. The Character Of Romeo Montague in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Romeo is one of the main characters in Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet and is portrayed as a tragic figure, who is guided by his destiny. Romeo, however, loses these personality traits towards the end of the play, and becomes more mature after falling deeply in love with Juliet. • 30. Symbolism In The Legend By Marie Lu Everyone needs hope in their lives for the good times and the bad. Hope is an essential part of human life, which is sometimes symbolized into objects. Legend by Marie Lu is a dystopian story about Day, a slum sector teen criminal, and June, a wealthy military prodigy. Marie Lu uses Day s pendant to symbolize the hope and freedom Day and June yearn for. In the beginning of Legend, Marie Lu uses Day s pendant to symbolize the hope and freedom that he lost after failing his Trials and yearns for. An example from the text that supports this argument is on page 6, I didn t even get to take anything except the pendant I wore around my neck. I didn t even get to say good bye. ... He had grabbed at the ghost of a necklace...Day s pendant. His pendant become such a part of him that he reaches for it just out of habit for emotional support. An additional reason Day misses his pendant, is because as shown on page 57, I reach up to touch my pendant for comfort.. The purpose of the pendent changes as before it helped remind him of his family, but now it helps comfort him.Ultimately, the book s conclusion shows how Day and June achieved the freedom they yearned for. On page 231, some evidence to back my claim up, In her palm is my pendant necklace ... but still more or less whole ... How exactly does this machine work with all specialties? Orthodontics is the treatment of irregularities in the teeth and jaw. To treat this, we would use braces to correct the irregularities. Most common at an orthodontist office they would just take a Panoramic and use that to tell what treatment needs to be done but with the machine it shows the exact relationship of all the surrounding anatomy, it also shows the limitations of tooth movement that can be done but most importantly it can show you everything you need to see with minimal radiation. Implantology is a dental technique that allows for replacement of either single teeth or entire arches by fixing ceramic teeth on top of these specifically designed implants . The PreXion can help with this specific specialty by quickly mapping nerves, assessing the bone quantity and quality and determining the proper implant angulation and position. In the Oral Surgery Department, this machine would be useful in a way that you can clearly see wisdom teeth and supernumerary teeth, properly diagnose cysts, tumors, and lesions and Identify sinus walls, never positioning as well as other vital structures and locations located throughout the head and neck regions. Periodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the structures surrounding and supporting the teeth. In this specialty, it is extremely important to identify disease and pathology and this machine can clearly show infection by being able to focus on a pinpointed area. It also can evaluate bone loss and defects. The specialty of root canals is called Endodontics. With the CBCT machine the operator has the ability to see the canals that are not visible in 2D and they can identify lesions and abscesses by using a variety of desktop view. Pharmacies will be hit the hardest when medical marijuana is legalized. It is cheaper for patients to grow their own medication. Some scientists are still working on how they can make a synthetic form of THC that can be put into capsule form. Is a synthetic form safe? This is still unclear. • 34. Quantum Teleportation And Its Effect On Human Life Since 1993, when the concept was first introduced by Bennett et al., numerous attempt have been made to practically implement Quantum teleportation. Quantum teleportation was first demonstrated with entangled photons[11] in 1997. Later, various developments have been achieved in laboratory, including the demonstration of entanglement swapping[12], open destination teleportation[13] and teleportation of two bit composite system[14]. Entanglement distribution has been shown with fiber links[15 18]. In addition, practical quantum teleportation have been realized via fiber links[19, 20] and limited to a distance of about one kilometer. Experiments have achieved free space distribution of entangled photon pairs over distances of 600 m[21] and 13 km[22]. Later, entangled photons were transmitted over 144 km[23, 24]. In these experiments, either only one photon was transmitted[23] or the entangled photon pair was transferred together[24] using only a one link channel. Most recently, following a modified scheme[25], quantum teleportation over a 16 km free space links was demonstrated[26] with a single pair of entangled photons. However in this experiment, the unknown quantum state must be prepared on one of the resource entangled qubits and therefore cannot be presented independently. Quantum cryptography, specifically Quantum key distribution is one important field where quantum teleportation can be practically applied to provide completely secure information exchange between ... • 35. What Is The Meaning Behind Mississippi Burning Within American history, the year 1964 stands out to the nation as the year that was faced with the civil rights movement. Altogether, with various events that occured over the course of the year, it caught the attention of many Americans and showed that progress was being made as well as there was hope that a country where all men are truly created equal could exist. The movie titled Mississippi Burning does an admirable job at revealing the internal battle that our nation was going through at this time and is an important film to be shown to young generations so that we are not doomed to repeat events of our past. The film Mississippi Burning starts out by displaying how three Civil Rights Workers get tailed, caught, and murdered in the woods by members of the Ku Klux Klan. The movie reveals to viewers, through conversation, the clashing personalities of the two FBI agents, Agent Ward and Agent Anderson, who came to Mississippi to investigate the missing persons case of the three boys. It becomes obvious over the course of the film that the two agents do not exactly see eye to eye on how to operate the investigation, including tactics to get the information they need. In addition, unfortunately, the two agents find out pretty quickly that they are not welcome in the town, as it is essentially a community run by the KKK. Many of the businesses in the town, and even the police department are controlled by members of the Klan, making it a society full of racist hatred. The two agents, after not being able to get very far on their own, call for reinforcements to assist with finding information for their investigation. A large amount of FBI agents as well as numerous members of the Navy Reserve are sent to help in the search for the three missing boys. As the two agents get closer and closer to finding the truth about the murders, they are constantly surrounded by the Klan s leaders including Clayton Townley and Deputy Clinton Pell. Many issues like Webster decision in 1989, that made a way to create abortion laws and Planned Parenthood Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. • 37. Factors Of An Authoritarian Government In The Movie V For... People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people. In an authoritarian government, the citizens listen to their director because they have this fear within them, that if they do not do what is asked of them they will face consequences. But in reality, the citizens have power over the government and the government is the one that is living in fear. At any moment someone can threaten the government. This has been seen through terrorist acts such as 9/11 terror attacks, and this has been demonstrated in the movie V For Vendetta. In the movie V For Vendetta, V attempts to bring freedom and justice into a society that has been corrupt from having an authoritarian government. He threatens the government and tells them a year in advance that he will blow up the most important building in their city, but the government was not able to stop him. V wanted the city of London, England to have freedom and rights, free press, and to no longer have to live in fake fear, all three which are factors of an authoritarian government. In V For Vendetta, it is displayed that the citizens have no rights and freedoms, the media is controlled by the government, and that the government creates fear. • 38. A Comparison Of The Disney Hercules And Disney Hercules Ancient Greeks followed myths and teachings of gods and heroes called Greek Mythology. Gods/desses exist in greek mythology to symbolize events such as weather changes to religious rituals, these stories help set up a social system while also occupying kids minds with thoughts such as where people go when they die. Demi gods are the results of a god and a human making love, they have the appearance of a human, but have better traits than most and are also immortal. Hercules is known for his immense strength from him being a son of Zeus but also a mortal mother. Hercules was very kind and caring, and was the only son of a mortal woman who became a god before dying. We will be discussing the Disney Hercules and the Dwayne Hercules. The Disney movie introduces a child friendly hercules who ends up learning a valuable lesson in the end and becomes a hero. The Dwayne Johnson movie introduces a more realistic hercules who travels the world with his band of mercenaries accomplishing difficult tasks for money and other rewards. The Disney version makes Hercules more friendly and less realistic which is ineffective to the myth itself, but the Dwayne version makes Hercules very realistic which helps make the story effective. The changes the Disney and Dwayne make to Hercule s birth and early life and his own family are both effective in their own ways. Zeus falls in love Alcmene and makes her pregnant, they name the baby Hercules to honor Zeus s wife, Hera. Hera was still mad though so she sends snakes to kill Hercules, but he was so strong that he killed them with his bare hands. Hercules then grows up, marries Megara and has kids, but Hera sends Hercules into madness and makes him murder his wife and kids, he then has to repent for his sins with the 12 labors. In the Disney version, Hercules is made to be an actual god and the child of Zeus and Hera, Hades with his evil plans sends his minions to kidnap Hercules and make him mortal but Hercules doesn t drink the last drop of formula, letting him keep his strength. Hercule the grows up with mortal parents but realizes eventually that he has super strength and that he is not a normal boy. Whether it be at sporting events or on college campuses, our First Amendment rights must be upheld. College is meant to provide each student with knowledge; ensuring they experience viewpoints from thousands of people, and taking away our First Amendment rights is taking away our opportunity to learn and further our education. 2017 isn t the first time the First Amendment has been brought up for debate on college campuses. Kent State is one of the most violent and unconstitutional violations of First Amendment rights on a college campus. The spirited young adults protesting the war at Kent State were not rebelling, they were only sharing the knowledge they valued deeply. Students were killed and nine injured when members of the Ohio National Guard opened fire during a demonstration protesting the Vietnam War. (Rosenberg). The students protesting the Vietnam war were giving others the opportunity to see something from a different perspective; this is the goal for liberal education. These student s ideas were suppressed and limited because they were not popular ideas. The goal of getting a higher education is to expand your thoughts and experience different beliefs. • 40. Literary Criticism of Swift’s Poetry Essay Literary Criticism of Swift s Poetry In her article, Voyeurism in Swift s Poetry, Louise K. Barnett explores the trend of voyeurism m the works of Jonathan Swift. She speaks broadly about the use of this technique in his work and concentrates on a few poems including The Lady s Dressing Room. Barnett believes that Swift s poetry tends to be more voyeuristic than it is obsessed with excrement and decay. To support this, she maintains that each poem centers around the experience of seeing the obscenity (i.e. The Lady s Dressing Room revolves around Strephon s response to Celia s dirt and dung) rather than the obscenity. Barnett claims that the act should offend readers more than the content: What is seen [in Swift] a pathetic ... Conveniently, there is a primary voyeur who can absorb the opprobrium attached to the forbidden looking, leaving us guiltlessly looking at words. 18 Barnett makes the distinction between active and passive voyeurism. Swift acts as the active voyeur insofar that he had to actually wander around a lady s dressing room or watch a lady strip in order to be able to write his poems. The reader assumes the role of the passive voyeur, the one who simply listens to or reads the exploits of the active voyeur. However, Barnett maintains, the passive voyeur stills looks or reads. By choosing to read, [continuing to read,] and thus recreate the voyeuristic experience, we become implicated, seeing what the poem sees. (18)) Even though the reader is twice removed from the active voyeur in The Lady s Dressing Room, (Strephon tells the tale to the narrator who tells the tale to the reader) he or she still becomes a voyeur because he or she continues to read just as the narrator continues his tale despite his protests to the contrary. This voyeuristic technique entraps the reader, drawing the reader in only to shame him or her. However, Barnett claims, the reader rationalizes the experience. While interviewing different kinds of people, Vollmann would ask them one question: why are you poor?
