English Reflective Essay Example
Crafting a reflective essay on the topic of "English Reflective Essay Example" can present both
challenges and opportunities for self-expression. The difficulty lies in the delicate balance
between personal introspection and adherence to formal writing conventions.
To begin with, the reflective essay demands a thoughtful exploration of personal experiences,
emotions, and insights related to the English language. This introspective journey can be
challenging as it requires the writer to delve into their own thoughts, often leading to a
heightened sense of vulnerability. Selecting the right anecdotes and experiences to showcase
while maintaining relevance to the topic is an intricate task that necessitates careful consideration.
Moreover, the essay must be structured coherently, blending personal reflections with analytical
insights. The writer needs to seamlessly weave together their experiences, connecting them to
broader themes within the realm of English. Striking the right balance between the personal and
the academic can be a daunting task, as the essay must not come across as overly subjective or
detached.
Additionally, the writer must demonstrate a strong command of the English language,
showcasing a sophisticated vocabulary and a nuanced understanding of grammar and syntax.
This adds another layer of complexity to the writing process, as conveying personal thoughts in
an articulate and refined manner requires a high level of linguistic skill.
Despite these challenges, writing a reflective essay on the specified topic offers a unique chance
for self-discovery and growth. It allows the writer to develop a deeper understanding of their
relationship with the English language and provides a platform for expressing thoughts and
perspectives in a creative manner.
In conclusion, while the process of composing an English reflective essay example can be
demanding, it is also a rewarding endeavor that encourages personal and intellectual
development. The writer navigates the intricate path of self-reflection and linguistic finesse to
produce a piece that is both insightful and well-crafted.

Mental Illnesses And Mental Health
Introduction World Health Organization (WHO, 2014) defines Mental health as a
state of well being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can
cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is
able to make a contribution to his or her community. Whereas Mental illnesses
(MI) are characterized by alterations in thinking, mood or behavior associated with
significant distress and impaired functioning (Health Canada, 2012). MI affects
people of all ages, educational and income levels and cultures. Example of MI
includes depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders and
addictive behaviors. According to Center for addiction and Mental Health
(CAMH, 2009) 2% of the total population in the world are affected by serious MI.
Moreover, Public Health Agency Canada (PHAC, 2012) claims that 1 in 5
Canadians will experience a MI in their lifetime and remaining 4 will have a friend,
family member or colleague who suffers from mental illness. It is a well known
and accepted statistic 20% of people with mental disorders have a co occurring
substance use problem (PHAC,2012). According to the (Health Canada, 2002), MI
are a major contributor to hospital costs; the cost supporting someone with serious
MI to live in the community is $34,418 per year (all cost) and the cost of keeping
someone with serious MI in the hospital is $170,820. Therefore, at present mental
illnesses is an important challenge to public health in Canada.
North America Research Paper
Hundreds of millions of years ago, all of earth s major landmasses were joined in a
single world continent, which geologists call Pangaea. About 200 million years ago,
the world continent split into a northern and a southern land mass. The northern
continent, Neogea, consisted of what is now North America, Europe, and Asia; the
southern continent, Gondwanaland, was made up of South America, Africa, Australia,
India, and Antarctica. About 130 million years ago, South American separated from
the rest of Gondwanaland and became, in effect, a gigantic island; its creatures,
which included marsupials and edentates precursors of today s sloths, anteaters and
armadillos developed in isolation. North America separated from Eurasia much later;
by then it was already well populated with the ancestors of our cats, dogs, rodents,
weasels, and other present day mammals. It was also inhabited by monkeys, which
had migrated from their original home in Africa up through Europe and into North
America before the continental separation was complete. For... Show more content on

The thicker sections fo the plates are the continents; the thinner parts make up the
ocean beds. When two plates meet, the result is geologic upheaval on a vast scale.
Such an encounter occurred about 20 million years ago in the region between
North and South America. The Cocos Plate, a piece of the Pacific crust some 300
miles wide, moved eastward until it met the crustal plate underlying the Caribbean.
The eastern edge of the Cocos Plate was driven beneath the western edge of the
Caribbean Plate. As the Cocos Plate was forced downward, the friction, as well as the
hear deep within the earth, liquefied its rock into magma, which found release by
thrusting up in a chain of volcanoes. The volcanic islands that resulted formed a line
of stepping stones between the northern and southern
The Issue Of Equal Pay For Equal Work
The issue of equal pay for equal work performed by women; is a political hot
button in the 2016 presidential campaign. So much so that the stump speeches, for
both former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and senator, Bernie Sanders, always
include this issue. Since the 1960s, congress and many researchers have tested this
theory. In order to affirm the validity of this message, we will perform a five step
hypothesis test. In the book, Statistical Techniques in Business Economics, authors D.
Lind, W. Marchal S. Wathen (2012), describe how to conduct this test of hypothesis.
We seek to determine if two sampled populations, females and males, have the same
mean (arithmetic average) wages. The process begins with only the raw data from a
2005 wages database. As a result, the authors further explain: The method described
does not require that we know the standard deviations of the populations (2012). For
that reason, we assume the sampled populations are equal, but, the standard
deviations are unknown. Then, we use the t test as the test statistic, with 30 degrees
of freedom.
Problem Statement In an online article entitled The Simple Truth About the Gender
Pay Gap , published on the AAUW website, author Catherine Hill, PhD, had this to
say: Did you know that in 2014, women working full time in the United States
typically were paid just 79 percent of what men were paid, a gap of 21 percent? The
gap has narrowed since the 1970s, due largely to women s
Loans to Cambodia through Kiva
There exists an overwhelming amount of people on Kiva who are requesting funds
for their loan. When reading each individual s profile it can be rather difficult to
choose only one person to which to loan, for each individual seeks the loan to
better their lives or the lives of their children. In order to help myself narrow done
the list of individuals seeking help, I created a list of preferences of who I was to
give the loan. My requirements were that the borrower be a female seeking to help
her children obtain a higher education. Upon placing my requirement I was finally
able to find the person to whom I desired to give a loan. The chosen individual was

Within day of the Khmer Rouge coming into power, Cambodia entered into the
darkest time of its history. Two million people were forced to evacuate from the
cities to the countryside in which they would undertake agriculture work. The
Khmer Rouge s goal was to create a rural, classless society and would force people
to work in the fields for more than 12 hours a day without adequate rest or food. The
Khmer Rouge placed a ban on family relationships and began an aggressive campaign
to brainwash children and encourage them to spy on their parents. The children were
taught to report their parents to authorities and turn in their parents as enemies of the
state. Following their coming into power and the evacuations of the citizens, the
Khmer Rouge turned its sights on the people in its own organization.
The Khmer Rouge soon claimed that only pure people were qualified to build their
revolution. They arrested and killed thousands of their soldiers, military officers and
civil servants. In the next three years, the Khmer Rouge would ban religious practice
and abolish money, markets, and private property. School, hospital, shops, offices,
and monasteries were closed. The Khmer Rouge persecuted intellectuals, city
residents and minorities; murdering hundreds of thousands of people over the three
year period. During the Khmer Rouge regime tensions built between the Khmer
Rouge and communist Vietnam. In 1979, the Vietnamese invaded Cambodia and

The Power Of The Executive Branch
As the President of the United States, we see him, or possibly in the future her, as
the supreme or ultimate power since they are the highest on the chain. For
instance, just as monarchies saw their king or queens. The power of the Executive
Branch is solely invested in the President, also assumes the position as head of
state and Commander in Chief of the armed forces. Everything you hear from the
President is supposed to carry a heavy weight because it is coming from a higher
authority figure. You would think with a stroke of a feather light pen and
whatever wish the President has asked for has been granted. Not exactly. The
president has powers outlined specifically by Article II Section II of Constitution.
Although it implements fewer explicit powers to the president than it does
Congress. Opposing popular belief, our president powers are ...far more limited in
power than we think (Botsch). Giving these limitations are some examples to...
One of the most prominent issues that arise within the President s powers to get
things approved is the U.S. Constitution itself. Usually the result of congressional
override; not only does it limits powers of the President but Congress, as well. It
comes downs to the approval of a bill, the proposed legislation goes through congress
before a decision is made. As we learned, if a President veto s a bill, Congress is
allowed to override it with 2/3 s vote. Vice versa, if congress proposes a bill, the
Presidents has some rights approve
The Nsa s National Security Agency
The National Security Agency s (NSA) warrantless collection of metadata has been
questioned on constitutional grounds. Specifically, the NSA s program has been
argued to be in violation of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution, which states
that all citizens are to be free from any unreasonable search or seizure. Proponents of
the NSA s collection of metadata believe that it is a crucial tool in preventing terrorist
attacks, while opponents of the program believe that its questionable constitutional
validity, along with its lack of clear success in preventing a single terrorist attack,
leaves the NSA s metadata collection program in desperate need of reform or outright
abolishment.
I.THE NSA S PURPOSE AND THE EVOLUTION OF GOVERNMENT
SURVEILLANCE It is important to note what the NSA is tasked to do before
discussing the constitutional arguments against its metadata program. As
Abdulmajeed Alhogbani, in his work, Going Dark: Scratching the Surface of
Government Surveillance, informs, the agency has two tasks: 1) information
assurance, which prevents foreign agents from obtaining classified information, and
2) signals intelligence, which collects and analyzes foreign intelligence (475).
Metadata collection does not fall under either of these tasks.
Prior to the establishment of the National Security Agency in 1952, the earliest
surveillance measure enacted in the United States was the Communications Act of
1934, which centralized the regulatory process of

Unit 13 P1:
Security:
Security protects organisation or properties from an individual without authorisation.
Security protects your computer from assault, theft and fraud etc. In business there
needs to be a document stating how the company can protect their information
technology and the company s material. This all needs to be written down. The
company s security policy is always updated because of the employee and
technology. There are many security threats on the internet, here are a few of them:
Identity theft:
Identity theft is when a criminal gets hold of your personal information. For example
bank account details.
Virus:
Virus is a code that attacks the network system and computer. This happens because
the data files are contaminated and this is done on a system through the internet or
disk. The virus tries to hid it self and send it self to others. The virus is harmful to
your computer.
Trojan:
Trojan is a virus that makes the user believe that it is good for their computer and this
virus is hard to remove this treat.
Trend analysis:
Trend analysis predicts the potential movements of a stock that is based on past
data. There are different types of charts that you can create. For instances you can
make a chart Traders get an idea of what might happen in the future, they get this
idea from what has happened before in the past. The three types of trends are long,
short, and intermediate term. Trend analysis is good because it does not go against
them but rather it
What Are The Similarities Between The Crucible And The...
Comparison between The Crucible and The Scarlet Letter The Scarlet Letter written
by Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Crucible written by Arthur Miller are two pieces of
literature written around the same era. They were written in the early days of the
Massachusetts colony. Both of the pieces of literature have many similarities
including the theme, setting, conflicts, and some major plot elements. But the two
pieces of literature are also very different. They both use have a common theme but
are completely different stories. Each of the plays tell a different portrayal of the
effects of sin on the protagonist, how they deal with the situation, and also how they
will be effected by their choices made throughout the play. A common thing... Show

Both use theme to develop the leading male characters, and the conflicts that they
both go through. Another important use of this theme is to show the effects of their
confession when they finally tell their sins. When John confesses, he realizes he
may have a little bit of good in him, and is not afraid to be hung as a witch. When
the minister confesses, he tells the entire town that everyone sins. After confessing
he is eligible to let his daughter kiss him in public and die a happy man. Even
though both works have a common theme, they develop a plot in a different way.
The common theme allows the authors something that is different in both works and
uses symbolism in each. In The Crucible John signing his name on the paper
confessing the witch craft is stating that he gives up his freedom and the last of his
dignity. He knew after signing this he would be an outcast, which could be worse
than death. When he tears the confession paper, this symbolizes him breaking free
and not giving away his life. The Scarlet Letter the A represents sin and everyone in
Boston notices it and she is shunned. She was known as a sinner and he baby was
the devil s baby. She learns to live with It and except. In both, symbolism is used to
help the theme, but symbolizes a different

Chromatography Essay
Chromatography is a separation technique in which the mixture to be separated is
dissolved in a solvent and the resulting solution, often called the mobile phase, is then
passed through or over another material, the stationary phase. The separation of the
original mixture depends on how strongly each component is attracted to the
stationary phase. Substances that are attracted strongly to the stationary phase will be
retarded and not move alone with the mobile phase. Weakly attracted substances will
move more rapidly with the mobile phase.
Liquid chromatography is an analytical technique that is useful for separating ions or
molecules that are dissolved in a liquid phase. If the sample solution is in contact ...

The compounds are separated by collecting aliquots of the column effluent as a
function of time.
Conventional Liquid Chromatography is most commonly used in preparative scale
work to purify and isolate some components of a mixture. It s also used in ultra trace
separations where small disposable columns are used once and then discarded.
Analytical separations of solutions for detection or quantification typically use more
sophisticated high pressure liquid chromatography instruments.
In liquid chromatography, the separator is called the column and consists in most
cases of a tube filled with porous material called the stationary phase. A liquid,
called the mobile phase, flows through the tube between the particles of stationary
phase material. A liquid sample is taken from a mixture to be analyzed and
introduced to a part of the system that is at elevated pressure. The sample is then
transported to a separator by the flow in the system.
After the column the separated compounds enter the detector, which measures a
physical or chemical property of each, now relatively pure, compound and creates a
proportional electronic signal. By calibrating with a standard mixture of known
compounds, the nature of the compound in the

Passion on Screen and Real Life: Ava Gardner in Mogambo
Cinema fans love to expound on the lives and careers of their favorite classic film
stars. Though few young people in the current day and age have a true understanding
of the difficulties that came with being a young starlet, in particular being taken
seriously as a performer. This is particularly true of Ava Gardner, who was regarded
as just a pretty face for a majority of her career. Gardner really only gained respect
after her performance as Honey Bear Kelly in John Ford s 1953 film Mogambo

I was just a pretty little girl. This led to her getting interesting roles where she said
few lines. She finally got a lucky break when she was cast as femme fatale Kitty
Collins in 1946 s The Killers along side Burt Lancaster s Ole Swede Anderson. The
Killers was wildly successful in its time racking up two and a half million and
sealing its place in film noir history. This is the film that established Gardner as a
star, but it really only solidified her as a pretty face. A majority of her roles
following The Killers were femme fatale characters or boring loving interests for
her male costars, such as East Side, West Side (1949) and The Bribe (1949).
Despite her success she was still not thought of as an actress. Her roles were one
dimensional and as David Meuel points out in his book Women in the Films of
John Ford she was far better known for her sex appeal that her acting ability. In
fact, Gardner was a source of wild gossip due to her hard drinking, swearing, and
public love life. Her three marriages were the primary source of gossip, particular her
relationship with singer Frank Sinatra. At twenty four, she was already divorced
from Mickey Rooney, married unhappily to Artie Shaw, and rejecting proposals from
eccentric Howard Hughes. Grobel points out that It was Mickey Rooney and
Howard Hughes and Artie Shaw and Frank Sinatra and most of the men who caught a
whiff of Ava and became intoxicated. Her

In both The Wind in the Willows, and Journey to the Interior, the idea that journeys
may provoke travellers and ultimately lead to transformation of self and richer
experiences, is clearly exhibited within. Depending on an entity s current perspective,
they may either embody provocative views, such as the Rat in the Wind in the

perspective to journey, such as the character of Toad. Through the use of tone,

Ultimately, because of the nature of the character of Rat, it is clear that this
individual despises and fears the idea of journey, showcasing how an entity s current
perspective, can impede on their view on, and appreciation of journey.
Moreover, in The Wind in the Willows, the idea that journey can lead to
transformation of self, and rich experiences is exhibited in Toad s ecstatic perception
of journey. In this extract of the novel, Toad believes that adventure is the only means
of fulfilling and experiencing a real animalistic life; That s real life for you, embodied
in that little cart . The cart is symbolic of Toad s ambitious nature, which is
manifested through his jubilant tone and positive attitude in response to change and
adventure. This optimistic view on journey proves that transformation of self and rich
experiences is attained by undertaking journey. Toad illustrates an image of journey as
being something life changing; Travel, change, interest, excitement! The whole world
before you and a horizon that s always changing . The cumulative listing of the
intangible rewards associated with journey, emphasizes how adventure can lead to
richer experiences . Additionally the metaphoric phrase of the changing horizon
represents Toad s intention of adventure and acceptance of and fearfulness of change.
Subsequently, because of Toad s optimistic and accepting perspective on journey, the

due to the fact that he used to be communist. To be clear, he had already left the

Baseball Isn’t as Simple as Black and White
Baseball isn t as simple as Black and White
Baseball, America s pastime , the most simple sport of the big 4, a sport where
failing 7 times out of 10 will still land you among the greats of all time. Baseball
has been played by all ages since the Mid 18th Century. It is a sport where 9 men
have at least 27 chances to score more runs than the other 9 men. So simple, but yet
so captivating. This simplicity, one would assume, would lead to an almost utopian
atmosphere. But, for Troy Maxon, an ex baseball player, the game of Baseball is
anything but a utopia. You see, before Jackie Robinson debuted for the Brooklyn
Dodgers in 1947, there were no African American baseball players. So, African
Americans were relegated to the Negro Leagues to ... Show more content on

Troy s use of this comparison in order to demonstrate the injustice that baseball
imparts on the African American ballplayers is incorrect and factually baseless. In
regards to the symbol of the shoes that Troy talks about, it is true that the players
in the MLB were being paid more money than were those players in the Negro
Leagues. In 1940, George Selkirk made ~$12,000, much more than did Josh
Gibson. Because of this, Selkirk s daughter was able to walk around with good
quality shoes on her feet, whereas Josh Gibson s daughter didn t have that luxury
because her father wasn t making as much money. However, instead of looking at
the facts objectively, Troy becomes very entangled in his own ego and warped
view of social justice. When Cory mentions that Hank Aaron s recent success,
including his 43 home run total in one season, Troy becomes very egotistical
saying, Hank Aaron ain t nobody. That s what you supposed to do. That s what you
supposed to do. That s how you supposed to play the game. Ain t nothin to it. It s just
a matter of timing... getting the right follow through. Hell, I can hit forty three home
runs right now! (Wilson 34). Troy, in his current state, could not by any means
muster up 43 home runs off of major league pitching like Hank Aaron could, but
because of his immense bias and egotistical nature, Troy believes he
Zapruder Movie Meaning
This essay aims to further extend Pasolini s argument on the long take through a
textual analysis of the Zapruder film and comparing it to a two minute extract of The
Eternal Frame.
Pasolini s essay on the observation on the long shot compares the long take to life.
The long take as we know is a single point of view that lacks narrative and meaning;
it is the single point of view that makes it a reality, reality is always in the present
tense. A montage creates meaning and coherence to a film, but by doing so it
transforms the present into the past. Much like our lives, we live in the present
time; we see and hear reality from a single point of view. Like the long take, our
lives have no real narrative or meaning as long as we live. Death does to a life what
montage does to a film, it creates the meaning to a life but it also transforms the
present into the past.
The Zapruder film is one long take, an accidental piece of footage that happened to
be one of the most important in the history of film. The 26 seconds piece of footage
aimed to document Kennedy s motorcade as it drove by, instead Zapruder captured
the only piece of film that records Presidents Kennedy s assassination in 1963 in
Dallas, Texas.
The film is one long take that lacks any editing; in other words the film is arguably
rushes that have not been given its final form, it is an unfinished piece. Yet, its
incompleteness is what makes the film the truest form of footage, it has not been
meddled with and it is

Developing markets across Canada means to satisfy all the Canadian customers as the
retailer do in America. The huge weaknesses from Target Canada are their future
profitability, they re a competitive market, the costs of their items, and the stockout or
the empty shelves in all their markets. Target Canada s future profitability might not
be as successful as other huge diversified markets in Canada. As for right now, there
are already major problems in Target that the Canadian consumers complain about,
and therefore, if the complaints and the bad publicity continue to run through Target,
there would be a less attraction to the image of Target, and thus, less consumers...

The Environmental Protection Agency ( Epa ) Essay
During and since World War II the United States has produced millions of tons of
toxic wastes during the manufacturing and processing of products. These hazards
were often left abandoned and no one really paid attention to their effect on our
environment. In the 1980s Congress established a Superfund Program. It was left for
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to administer the superfundprogram, to
find these hazardous sites, investigate and determine the worst ones, and then
clean up those sites across the United States. Over 15,000 sites were identified and
1,400 were named to the National Priorities List (NPL). One of the towns was
Picher Oklahoma named in the Tar Creek Superfund Site. Picher and the
neighboring towns covering over a 50 square mile area became known as the Tar
Creek Superfund Site and were officially put on the NPL on 8 September 1983 (
challenge posed to children s health by mixtures of toxic waste: the Tar Creek
Superfund Site as a case study, n.d.). All of the information was finally out. The
hazards were known. It was time for the clean up to begin. Where do you begin
when a problem is this large? The Environmental Protection Agency was tasked to
take the leadin the clean up. It was easy to identify the hazards: contaminated water,
contaminated soil, possible area collapse, and the lead laced chat piles. To begin the
Superfund site cleanup the EPA started with monitoring of the surface water, acid
mine water discharge, and

Narnia Biblical Allusions Essay
C.S. Lewis The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of books that contain a countless
amount of biblical allusions. In each of the seven total books of the series, there are
references to both characters and major themes in the Bible. For example, in the Lion
the Witch and the Wardrobe, there are many allusions to the Biblesuch as when
Edmund betrays not only his brother, Peter, and two sisters, Susan and Lucy, but
also Aslan in order to stay with the Wicked Witch in her palace. This is similar to
the story of Judas and the way that he leaves the disciples and betrays Jesus.
Furthermore, in the same book, Aslan is killed by the Wicked Witch for the sake of
Narnia similar to how Jesus is crucified for the sins of his people. Additionally, both...

This shows parallels to how Jesus and the Holy Spirit bring new life to those who
believe in Him and the promise that Christ will come back one day to reclaim His
people. Another book in the series that includes many references to the Bible is
The Last Battle. This is the last book in the series and shows many similarities to
the book of Revelation in the Bible and to the end of time. Not only does Aslan
have a false Aslan who is trying to deceive and overtake Narnia similar to Jesus
having an Anti Christ, Satan, who tries to tempt and deceive God s people, but
this last book also shows many parallels to the Judgement and last days on earth.
Both the Anti Christ and the Anti Aslan speak lies about the true Jesus and Aslan
and it is ultimately up to the Narnians and the people on Earth to accept or decline
the real Jesus and the real Aslan. Lastly, both the Bible and The Last Battle show
the struggles between good and evil in this book and offer hope in the return of the
real Aslan and the real Christ. Even The Magician s Nephew, the first book in the
series, shows allusions to the book of Genesis in the Bible and the world s
What Is The Stress Strain Curves Of The Pure SR And SR...
The stress strain curves of the pure SR and SR composites are presented in Figure
3(a), indicating that the stresses at 100% strain and 300% strain increase with
increasing content of BT particles. The main reason for the increased stress at
definite elongation is the reinforcing effect of the inorganic particles [38]. In
addition, the elongation at break of the SR composites decreased after adding BT
particles, attributed to the BT particles acting as physical links, thus limiting the
flexibility of macromolecular silicone. Because of increasing interfacial areas
between the BT particles and SR matrix, the number of physical links increased
significantly in the system, decreasing the elongation at break of the SR composites
with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two factors can be used to explain this phenomenon. The first one is the BT particles
interact strongly with the macromolecular SR, thus restricting the mobility of the
molecular chains. The second one is the polymer chain entanglement limits the
movement of polymer chains [38]. The interface polarization will increase the
dielectric constant as well as the dielectric loss of the composites. As shown in
Figure 4(b), the dielectric loss tangent of the BT/SR composites is larger than that
of the pure SR at low frequency. In addition, the dielectric loss displays a sharp
decrease at a low frequency (lower than 1 kHz), caused by the DC leakage current.
However, the electrode polarization can be excluded as there is no simultaneous
decrease in the dielectric constant and dielectric loss with increasing frequency [42].
However, because of the weak polarization of the silicone matrix, the dielectric loss
tangent of all the samples is lower than 0.015. The low dielectric loss means just a
little energy dissipation during actuation, a big advantage for dielectric elastomer.
The electromechanical performance of the SR composites was tested using circular
actuators. Considering the safety and utility, the loaded electric field on the samples
was 50 kV/mm. The actuated strains of the BT/SR composites are shown in Figure
5(a). With increasing electric field, the actuated strain of the samples increases
significantly, because it is proportional to the square
Imperialism And Its Impact On Society Essay
Response 1: Imperialism
Gaining complete dominance within a society can be viewed as a lion taking
control over its land. These lions can be regarded as a powerful empire, as they live
among other preys fighting for supremacy. In History it has been said that A nation
that did not expand would not survive (American Passages, 529). Imperialism is a
prime example of a group of prey fighting for sovereignty, within this land we come
across the lions, otherwise known as the nations who control the prey and victimize
them to gain complete dominance. Nations such as Japan, United Kingdome, United
States, Germany and France were all living amongst themselves in this word fighting
for the ultimate position in the game of imperialism. These leading nations took it
upon themselves to find undeveloped nations and control certain aspects; they
managed to do this because of their strong military base, as well as a stable economy.
Although imperialism has been viewed in a negative way, many have seen positives
aspects emerging from colonization. These include building roadways, canals and
even railways for the underdeveloped nations; other examples include giving them an
education system, and stabilizing their economy. That being said, the negative
elements outgain the positive, these mother nations took advantage of their daughter
nations, causing them to work for cheap labor and neglecting their natural born
rights. These prevailing nations took it upon themselves to create a world

Question 1: Effects of Cash Reserve Ratio Reduction on Inflation, Money Supply,
Employment Rates and Gross Domestic Product
Regulators of financial matters and performance in a given country or region are
often faced with the difficult task of ensuring that the performance of the economy is
always positive. This is because the economy of a country directly influences the
standard of living in the country through factors such as employment and the overall
prices of commodities in the country. to effectively control, the performance of the
economy, regulators make use of various tools that are at their disposal.
Controlling the financial instruments in the country presents regulators with the best
of options in determining the economic performance. During difficult times when a
region might be experiencing various challenges financially, the government through
regulatory bodies can opt to employ the various ways of controlling the financial
instruments in the country. Controlling the levels of cash reserve ratio presents
regulatory bodies with a viable option depending on the end desires of the
government. The term cash reserve ratio is used in describing the amounts that
regulatory bodies stipulate for lending outlets to keep as a reserve and deposit.
Essentially, money or funds that are kept as reserve by the lending outlets such as
banks are not supposed to be used in the provision of short term or long term credit

Analysis Of The 1918 Influenza Pandemic
Scientists studies have led to a greater understanding of the 1918 influenza pandemic.
Through conducting tests on the remains of victims, as well as consulting morgues,
and numerous accounts of that time period, scientists have finally come up with a
theory and solution for influenza.
By comparing recent flu strains with the 1918 influenza scientists found reasons to
believe that the1918 influenza pandemic began as a bird virus. The bird virus would
have adapted to humans overtime eventually becoming as deadly to humans as it had
been to birds. Once the virus adapted to humans it was spread through the physicality
of a handshake or hug which is highly common among humans.
In 1918 no one knew why people were getting sick and dying. There was

on the issue in its entirety. Sex is one of the most intimate acts that can occur
between two people. When you enter a sexual relationship of any nature, the
assumption is that relationship stays between you and your partner(s). Before the
invention of the internet and social media, you could take pictures on a camera or
a video recorder to keep for yourself. Now, with cameras and videos on our phones,
and being able to access social media from our phones, an inappropriate upload
only takes seconds. It only takes a scorned, irrational person to display your private
affairs to the world. In many young relationships, sexting (the exchange of sexually
charged texts and photos) is popular. Even if you don t want to share these things
publicly, you are pressed to make these exchanges and often fall prey to the pressure.

D-Day Of Nazi Germany Essay
June 6, 1944, marked the start of the liberation of Nazi Germany. Many lives were
lost by both sides but all of those lives that were lost were brave people who fought
for a great cause. To make this day a success the US made many fake attacks. These
attacks played an amazing role in the win of the war. D Day was a major turning
point in WWII; without a win on the beaches of Normandy Nazi Germanywould ve

The US and its allied forces (Britain and Canada) had many conferences to talk
about how and where they were going to attack Nazi, Germany. Some of the most
important conferences were the Sextant and Eureka meetings. At both of the
meetings the people talked about the battle strategy and who was going where. All

Buckingham Character Analysis
Buckingham s Desire for Revolution Shakespeare wrote many plays during his
lifetime, but possibly none as complex and busy as Richard III. It is an intricate
play where many different characters are portrayed in many different roles. One of
those characters is the Duke of Buckingham, a villain and for the majority of the
play the trusted accomplice for Richard. In almost every scene in which
Buckingham was portrayed, he proved himself to be a rebellious villain over and
over. As a rebel, he fought as a revolutionist, craving a change of events for self
seeking power. Buckingham exemplifies the definition of a revolutionist rebel
because of his willingness to be part of a revolution in order to change his
surroundings and increase his own eminence. He followed through with almost
every plan given to him by Richard to accomplish his purposes until the final order
to kill the young princes. Early on in the play, we learn of the character
Buckingham and his allegiance sworn to Richard, the Duke of Gloucester. One
can view Buckingham as Richard s partner in arms. Throughout most of the play,
we see the two conspirators design and carry out evil and malicious acts to place
Richard as the king. They were willing to remove any obstacle in order for a new
king to be crowned. Clarence, Hastings, and Lady Anne are a few of the characters
who befell a gruesome fate due to the conspiracy of Richard and Buckingham.
Buckingham is completely devoted to Richard s cause and will stop at

Essay on Analysis of Hopkin s Poem God s Grandeur
Gerard Hopkins wrote God s Grandeur in 1877 right around the time he was
ordained as a priest. The poem deals with his feelings about God s presence and
power in the world. He could not understand how the people inhabiting the earth
could refuse or be distracted from God. This confusion was due to the greatness of
God s power and overall existence that, to Hopkins, seemed impossible and sinful
to ignore. However, as the poem progresses Hopkins expresses hope in the world
and God s everlasting presence in it. This poem has much meaning to it and
expresses the thoughts and feelings that Hopkins was having at the time he wrote it.
When one first reads God s Grandeur it is hard to fully understand what Hopkins was
trying to convey. One must... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first point is the prominence and greatness of God in our world. The second
builds off of the first, questioning the lack of respect, worship, or simple
acknowledgement of God by the human race. The third point continues Hopkins s
thinking process by expressing hope in the Holy Ghost and his never ending
existence in the world. The first point of the poem that Hopkins desired to convey
is in the first three lines. The poem starts off by giving a description of God s
grandeur in our world. The first line is representative of the time period that the
poem was written, The world is charged with the grandeur of God. Hopkins s use
of the word charged to describe God s presence, may it have been intentional or
not, reflects the world that Hopkins lived in. In 1877 electricity had been
discovered, but it was still an uncontrollable and indescribable mystery. It was a
power that could not be fully explained just like God s presence on the earth,
something that is still as much of a mystery today. It was almost God like, and was
a perfect was to explain God s existence. Another comparison is made at the end of
line three, It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil. The world under God is
being compared to the ooze of oil, expressing how God s will holds the earth together
like oil. Throughout the poem Hopkins uses alliteration very effectively and in these
first few lines it is blatantly evident. Certain consonants are used in

As the progression of realization in both the novel and show, while the characters

The world, for Ambrosio and the other characters, is a place of terror, the infinity
of little forgiveness and few who can survive. Of those who make it to the end of
the novel, must work between the line of the beautiful and the sublime, the must
be attractive enough not to be feared and not ignorant enough to be blind to the
sublime. In Daredevil, the world is a far brighter place, and forgiving in its nature
in its greater forms. In this world, it is vice that hides virtue. The devil on the
streets is seen as a hero, hearing of young children being kidnapped and saving
them, hearing of a girl being mugged and making sure she finds her way home.
Moreover, while in this world, there may be darkness in people, it is illustrated
through the lighting and the idea of goodness that there will be light somewhere.
Even in the fight scenes seen at night, there is light somewhere at every angle. This
point can be further hones with the sublime natures of Matilda and Elektra. The
former was seen as the savior of Ambrosio, the one who sucked the poison from his
veins, gave him a new life before it was visible that she was bringing him down the
path of the sin she planned out for him, the corruption she wrought. Elektra, too,
brought destruction and enjoyed each part of it, the beast and never the beauty,
killing to kill, and worked to bring Matt to her worldview of violence, of finding it
as fun as she did. Yet, she did seek his acceptation, in the same way, shocked that
she wasn t changing him, but that it was the other way around. The point she
argued with another that as Matt believes she can be good, beginning to understand
such ideas as well, wanting to be good, even if she cannot do so due to her nature.
She slit the throat of one who attacked Matt and asked him if he would still love her.

Moral Quotes In The Hobbit
If you were in the face of moral danger, would you step up or back away and cower
away from danger? Well, in the story The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien the main
character, Bilbo, has to face danger multiple times when he went on a quest to help
strangers take back their home. Bilbo shows his change from being a coward to a
person who lives life more adventurously and courageously. Some ways he exhibits
these actions is when he initially leaves and leaves his home, when he gets
kidnaped by a group of goblins he was barely phased by it, and when he goes face
to face with Smaug very strong dragon. When he starts he off, he is just a normal
person who lives a normal life until he is asked to go on an adventure at first he is
frightened but then decides to go. Right after he sets off on his journey after a few
nights he stays at an inn and thinks about how the last few days were Bilbo would
gladly have stopped there forever and ever even supposing a wish would have
taken him right back to his hobbit hole without trouble (Tolkien 48). In this excerpt
he wishes he could go home after having a bad trip but when he realizes that the
dwarves have no home to go back to so he continues on knowing it wouldn t be right
to leave them. Even though he could be sitting comfortably at home, he would rather
help a stranger reclaim their home. Later on in the book the party of dwarves and
Bilbo are traversing the mountainside and they get captured by a group of goblins.

Changes Within The Colonization Of Korea
Colonization is the action or process of a foreign culture settling among and
establishing control over a native culture of a particular geographical location. This
is a simplistic and perhaps innocuous description of the colonization process. In fact,
all colonization has some aspect of physical coercion as part of its methodology,
practice, and progression. The exertion of physical force by one culture upon another
may be sufficient to establish initial or sporadic control by the colonizing entity.
However, the constant use of physical force as a measure of control is arduous and
maybe impossible to sustain long term. Therefore, a successful colonization must be
achieved not just by the implementation of physical coercion, but by fundamentally
changing aspects of the native culture. In other words, although brute force may be
used at the inception or during the process of colonization, for it to be successful,
colonizers must effect changes within the native culture that will lead its members to
acquiesce, support and aid in their own colonization. A strong historical example of
this was Japan s colonization of Korea. Although aspects of Japan s colonization of
Korea was militaristic in nature, its eventual success was possible through
psychological, educational and cultural means of control.
Korea was formally colonized by Japan in 1910; however, the process of its takeover
by Japan began during the Russo Japanese War (1904 5). During the war, negotiations

Three Examples of Genocide Essay
From the time humans existed, hatred seemed to be the dominant trait that
possessed the souls of men. It was inevitable emotions could provoke people to
engage in acts without thinking; but it was the acts that were premeditated which
were classified as evil and brutal. A. M. Rosenthal, the author of No News From
Auschwitz, described a single moment in history where these kinds of acts were
invoked. This appalling endeavor is known as genocide which is the deliberate
destruction of a national, racial or a religious group

During 1915 and 1916, one and a half million Armenians were killed. The Armenian
Genocide was masterminded by the Central Committee of the Young Turk Party
(Armenian
Genocide). The extermination of the Armenians occurred in a systematic fashion.
First the Armenians in the army were disarmed, placed into labor battalions and then
killed. Then the Armenian political and intellectual leaders were rounded up on April
24, 1915, and killed. Finally, the remaining Armenians were called from their homes
and told they would be relocated ... and then marched off to concentration camps ... in
the desert ... would starve and thirst to death in the burning sun (Armenian Genocide).
To this present day, the
Turkish Government denied these allegations. They claimed the Armenians were
only removed from a war zone. The leaders of the Young Turk Government were
found guilty of carrying out the killing by a secret network (Armenian Genocide).
The decision to eradicate the Armenians was not an impulsive decision, but the result
of extensive and profound deliberations (Armenian Genocide). In the case with

High Yield-Bonds Essay
High Yield Bonds
A bond is debt to whoever sells the bond to an inventor. If you buy an IBM bond,
you are loaning money ($1000) to IBM instead of a bank loaning money to them.
Just like a bank, you are going to charge IBM interest on your money, as well as a
return of principle when the loan is due (ten years later). The company does not go
to the bank to borrow the money, because the bank will rate the company as a high
risk company. Hence, banks are really tight with their money. High yields bond
investment relies on an credit analysis in that it concentrates on issuer fundamentals,
and a bottom up process. It focuses more on downside risk default and the unique
characteristics of the issuer. In a portfolio of high yield bonds, ... Show more content

This was a result of a major chance in business conditions, or assumption of too much
financial risk by the issuer.
Different types of bonds
Along with the many different characteristics of bonds such as, the way the pay their
interest, the market they are issued in, the currency they are payable in, protective
features and their legal status. Bond issuers may be governments, corporations,
special purpose trusts or even non profit organizations. Usually it is the type of issuer
or the particular nature of a bond that sets it apart in its own category.
Government Bonds
Supranational Agencies
A supranational agency is like a World Bank, that leaves assessments or fees against
its member governments. The most important factor is the support and taxation
power of the underlying national governments that allow these organizations to make
payments on their debts.
National Governments
The central or national governments also have the power to print money to pay their
debts, as they control the money supply and currency of their countries. This is one
reason why investors consider national governments (bonds) of the most industrial
countries to be almost risk free from a default point.
Quasi Government Issuers
Many government related institutions issue bonds, some supported by the revenues
of a specific institution and some guaranteed by a government sponsor. For example,
in Canada they have a bank that issue bonds that are guaranteed by the
Literary Criticism Of The Hunger Games
When The Hunger Games trilogy written by Suzanne Collins came out in 2008, the
popularity of dystopian novels rose, causing a plethora of similar novels to be
written. The dystopian genre in the twenty first century generally has a strong and
masculine teenage female heroine who faces the daunting task of saving their cruel
and messed up world. In The Hunger Games, the protagonistis Katniss Everdeen who
chooses to take her younger sister, Primrose Everdeen s, place in the Hunger Games,
an annual event where a young female and male are chosen from each district to
battle each other to the death as a sadistic form of entertainment for the Capitol. The
Capitol is where the influential and wealthy citizens live, lavishing themselves with
outrageous makeup and clothing. It also represents the tyrannical and controlling
government responsible for this act of savagery. Katniss also struggles between two
possible loveinterests: Gale, her childhood friend, and Peeta, her partner in the
Hunger Games. The popularity of this trilogy caused many other imitations to arise,
struggling to claim some popularity for themselves. These recurring themes appear in
almost every novelthat was influenced by The Hunger Games, an example being
Matched, also a trilogy, written by Allie Condie in 2010. Matched follows the story
of Cassia Reyes, who is also a female teenager, whose life was thrown into disarray
when her Match, her life partner chosen by the Government, was seen to be two

Persuasive Speech On Renewable Energy
Imagine for a moment that we turn off the light switch ...... and then the heating. Now
imagine that your smartphone battery is flat. Is it dark? Are you feeling cold and
disconnected from your friends and family? You should be, and you certainly would
be, if governments around the world did not continue to invest in non renewable
power.
Good afternoon (teacher) and classmates.
Whilst it may seem a no brainer to cease investment in non renewable power and
transfer our effort, resources and investment into developing renewable energy
sources, the reality is that we have become so reliant and dependent upon non
renewable energy particularly fossil fuels that we must continue to use, develop, and
invest in such energy to maintain the living standards that we enjoy today. In our
short to medium term future, and in spite of our ever increasing scientific knowledge
about the environmental price that we pay in using non renewable energy, we must
continue to invest in it. Let me explain why.
Environmental Background:
The beginning of the industrial revolution in the eighteenth century led to an
exponential increase in our demand for energy to satisfy the growing needs of
manufacturing, transport, production of raw materials, healthcare, and agriculture.
Simple tasks are taken for granted such as powering up the plethora of devices and
gadgets that we cannot live without such as our smart phones and computers. Whilst
all of these things are central to our very existence on the planet, our increased
dependence on energy has essentially been met to date by the burning of non
renewable fossil fuels, such as brown and black coal.
There are two major problems associated with reliance on fossil fuels to meet our
long term future global energy requirements.
Firstly, and put very simply, fossil fuels are non renewable! Once the finite deposits
of brown and black coal are exhausted around the planet there will be no more energy
generated by this process. Current estimates predict that all known coal deposits will
be exhausted within the next 120 years.
Secondly, together with deforestation of the planet, the burning of fossil fuels is
contributing to a measurable increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in
Stanford Prison Experiment Philip Zimbardo
The Stanford Prison Experiment conducted in 1970 by Zimbardo was an experiment
used to determine human behavior in a negative environment. Psychologist Philip
Zimbardo wanted to determine whether prison guards and prisoner s behaviors were
affected due to their roles. He wanted to see if those roles would deteriorate their
morals and ethics that they had prior to the experiment. He wanted to see what would
happen to an individual who had their dignity and sense of control taken away from
them. The experiment was conducted randomly. A correctional facility was built in
the basement of Stanford University to conduct the experiment. Participants could
apply to the experiment from the newspaper ad which offered fifteen dollars a day
to participate. Participants were placed into two categories. They either had to be a
prisonguard or a prisoner. The prison guards wore clothing that were similar to
military outfits and were given wooded baton and shades that prevented eye contact.
Due to the shades, guards felt less conscious of how to treat prisoners. Prisoners
however were dressed in short clothing and were identified by their number. However,
guards could not physically punish the prisoners.... Show more content on

They treated them inhumanely especially when the prisoners would revolt. The
guards would punish and humiliate the prisoners. On the other hand, the prisoners
felt that they were worthless and had no hope. They felt like they had no control over
themselves. It came to the point that they did not know themselves but thought of
themselves as just their prison number. Some fell into depression and suffered
emotional distress. As a result, they had to leave the experiment before it could be
terminated. Philip Zimbardo who was the prison superintendent also lost himself in

Washington shook his head. Suffocated. We ve seen it before. These sick psychos

No, there was no way this was a defective wiring situation. He fanned his hand across
the traces of putrid smoke still rising, his eyes watering. He wiped his eyes and

Oh my God, he said softly. A toy radio controlled car with its hood off was wired to
the stereo. Whoever did this knew exactly what they were doing and triggered it
precisely when they wanted to. In fact, Denny looked out the open windows,
whoever did it was probably watching him right now.
Fine, Denny thought. He gave the finger to the darkness outside. And yeah, whoever
did this knew exactly what they were doing, and when it came to remote ignition
devices, like this was, firemen knew exactly what they were doing. Denny sighed and
lifted the toy car from behind the stereo. Whoever did this not only got into his
apartment they must ve been watching him but they triggered the device just before
he got home. Which meant they didn t want to burn the entire apartment building
down, for certainly someone who did would ve used more combustible material, say
a trash container, more accelerant and a less detectible method of ignition. No,
whoever did this meant it as a
Genetic Counselor Personal Statement
Throughout my college career, I have been fortunate to experience many
opportunities to immerse myself in the field of genetic counseling through phone
interviews, job shadows and internships with a variety of genetic counselors. As a
sophomore still seeking to learn more about genetic counseling, I arranged a
telephone interview with Patricia Arscott, a cardiovascular counselor from the
University of Michigan. Patricia answered all of my questions involving the average
job duties, responsibilities and aspects of being a genetic counselor and gave me
advice about suggested college courses to take and resources for more information
about the genetic counselingprofession. By the end of the phone call, the zeal with
which Patricia described her career firmly cemented my belief that I wanted to
become a genetic counselor and feel just as passionate about my career too.... Show

kindly allowed me to shadow her for an afternoon, where she explained to me the

remember how I hung on Sommer s every word, amazed at how she was using her
knowledge of science and genetics to educate and counsel the patient in a way that
they could easily understand. At the close of our day, Sommer mentioned that she
would be in need of an intern in the summer months and suggested that I apply for the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Framing
framing comes from its ability to define the terms of a debate without the audience
realizing it is taking place. (Tankard, 2001, p. 96)
Using frames has the risk of finding only the frames I am unconsciously looking
for. I might tend to find conventional or stereotypical ways of looking at the
content. I try to avoid that by always reflect on my work and try to find different
ways to look at it. Three kinds of framing exist. First, a frame can be used to select
and exclude parts. Second, frames can also be used to set a tone for issues or events.
The presentation or interpretation of events can change through the chosen frames.
And the third one is, that frames can be used as a central organizing idea to build the

[...] [S]cience can be made to look empirical or theoretical, pure or applied. (Gieryn,
1983, p. 781)
The demarcation of science is happening all the time in everyday practices and
settings. It is created and recreated in contrast to other forms of knowledge. In every
situation, where scientists talk about science, specific attributes are selected to
counter them to non scientific knowledge forms. A particular form of science is built
up in every context, where it is talked about science, and also a contrast to that one,
which defines in this context what science is not. (Gieryn, 1983)
Analysis of the content of these ideologies suggests that science is no single thing:
characteristics attributed to science vary widely depending upon the specific
intellectual or professional activity designated as nonscience , and upon particular
goals of the boundary work. The boundaries of science are ambiguous, flexible,
historically changing, contextually variable, internally inconsistent, and sometimes
disputed. [...] [S]cientific knowledge is at once theoretical and empirical, pure and
applied, objective and subjective, exact and estimative, democratic (open for all to
confirm) and elitist (experts alone confirm), limitless and limited (to certain domains
of knowledge). (Gieryn, 1983,
Examples Of Masculinity In Boyz N The Hood
Boyz in the Hood : Masculinities in Native Son
The novel Native Son by Richard Wright explores many characteristics, with
masculinity being one. The main character is displayed with aggressive, violent and
insensitive characteristics, which society generally deems as masculine. The word
masculinities comes from masculinity, which according to The Oxford Dictionary
means, possession of the qualities traditionally associated with men . Also in the title,
the name Boyz in the Hood refers to a movie from 1991, which portrays the life of
African American men.

Hegemonic masculinity is Mr. Dalton (white, middle class (and above), over 35,
married, heterosexual, college educated) he is control of the woman and demands the
force of hegemony on women. Jan and Max have the characteristics of what
determines as a man however, he chooses to go against it and fights for communism.
They express the Marginalized masculinity (everything of a hegemonic male but one
factor is missing, usually race). In this case, they are missing the factor of
supporting capitalism. Max in particular uses his knowledge to emasculate
characters especially in the court scene. Subordinate male is the total opposite of
the hegemonic man, he is the woos and have all the characteristics opposite of the
hegemonic male. Bigger performs different forms of masculinities based on his
environment. This is a form of psychology that they act differently around different
people. Bigger for example acts differently around his black friends, he s
comfortable, loud and boisterous around his friends, yet when he is around Mr. and
Mrs. Dalton and he is unable to have an identity and he fits what they want him to, he
is emasculated by them. Similarly when he is around Mary and Jan, they are in
support and want him to feel comfortable, but because of society emasculating him,
his masculinity is defined for him when he is in certain situations like this.
Richard Wright as an African American male writer, uses his novel to explore how
his society determined the

People have realized the link between eating poorly leading to face diseases. Jamba

Substitutes: This is a huge factor in the industry. There are substitute for food and
even restaurants. Since Jamba Juice offers drinks these can be substituted with soda
or alcohol, or even the same juice from one of Jamba Juice s competitors.
Competition also plays a role in the price of the product. If competition increases,
price can decrease. In another words, substitution is available. Buyers would face no
uncertainty when switching to different product. Substitutes satisfy price and value.

Buyer s Power: Jamba Juice often deals with small individual target market of
customers; hence the power of the customer is quite low. The customers have limited

Weirdest And Oddest Family Members Essay
The weirdest family member I have is myself. I am considered the weirdest/oddest
person in my family because I do everything slow even when I m eating. The reason I
eat like I do I remember one time when I was eating, next thing you know I
swallowed my food. I wasn t even done chewing it. Now that I m in college, I have to
go to breakfast an hour before class, because of how I eat. Another weird thing I do is
when I open a bag of chips; I have to smell them I don t know why but I have to.
Even before I leave a room I always play with the light switch. I ll try to level it out in
the middle, or I have to rub my hand on it about 5 times before I leave the room
completely. My family call me odd because I don t do everything they do, eat the
same things they do. Like if I m walking with someone and we split a pole, I will
literally stop and turn around, because I believe that it is bad luck just to make a U
turn. I don t know why I do that it s like if I don t do it I think I m going to have bad
luck. Another thing I do is if I have a pen or pencil, and I will rub it in the palm of
my hand until it turns red or until some type of feeling goes away. Even how I walk
is odd. If you really pay attention to me I always do two things when I m walking.
One of them are I always hold my head down to the side and the other one is I
swing both of my arms at the same time. Another thing that makes me odd, I do not
like when my foodtouch. If my foods touch I will literally separate every single
thing. I guess some people like to mix their foods together, me personally I can t
do it. Like one time in the cafeteria I asked for macaroni and yams, the lunch lady
literally mixed them together causing me to have to seperate them. Some people
said It s all going down the same way . I still till this day will not mix my food
together.
One of the weirdest things I ve ever done was when I was sitting in my room and
out of nowhere I had this urge to cross my eyes. When I did it I couldn t stop,
because there was some type of feeling that I had to make myself feel in order for
me to stop doing it. They almost got stuck, and every since then I tried so hard to
stop myself from doing it again. The second weirdest thing I ve ever done

English Reflective Essay Example. Expository essay: Reflective essay english 101

  • 1. English Reflective Essay Example Crafting a reflective essay on the topic of "English Reflective Essay Example" can present both challenges and opportunities for self-expression. The difficulty lies in the delicate balance between personal introspection and adherence to formal writing conventions. To begin with, the reflective essay demands a thoughtful exploration of personal experiences, emotions, and insights related to the English language. This introspective journey can be challenging as it requires the writer to delve into their own thoughts, often leading to a heightened sense of vulnerability. Selecting the right anecdotes and experiences to showcase while maintaining relevance to the topic is an intricate task that necessitates careful consideration. Moreover, the essay must be structured coherently, blending personal reflections with analytical insights. The writer needs to seamlessly weave together their experiences, connecting them to broader themes within the realm of English. Striking the right balance between the personal and the academic can be a daunting task, as the essay must not come across as overly subjective or detached. Additionally, the writer must demonstrate a strong command of the English language, showcasing a sophisticated vocabulary and a nuanced understanding of grammar and syntax. This adds another layer of complexity to the writing process, as conveying personal thoughts in an articulate and refined manner requires a high level of linguistic skill. Despite these challenges, writing a reflective essay on the specified topic offers a unique chance for self-discovery and growth. It allows the writer to develop a deeper understanding of their relationship with the English language and provides a platform for expressing thoughts and perspectives in a creative manner. • 2. Mental Illnesses And Mental Health Introduction World Health Organization (WHO, 2014) defines Mental health as a state of well being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to his or her community. Whereas Mental illnesses (MI) are characterized by alterations in thinking, mood or behavior associated with significant distress and impaired functioning (Health Canada, 2012). MI affects people of all ages, educational and income levels and cultures. Example of MI includes depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders and addictive behaviors. According to Center for addiction and Mental Health (CAMH, 2009) 2% of the total population in the world are affected by serious MI. Moreover, Public Health Agency Canada (PHAC, 2012) claims that 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a MI in their lifetime and remaining 4 will have a friend, family member or colleague who suffers from mental illness. It is a well known and accepted statistic 20% of people with mental disorders have a co occurring substance use problem (PHAC,2012). Therefore, at present mental illnesses is an important challenge to public health in Canada.
  • 3. North America Research Paper Hundreds of millions of years ago, all of earth s major landmasses were joined in a single world continent, which geologists call Pangaea. About 200 million years ago, the world continent split into a northern and a southern land mass. The northern continent, Neogea, consisted of what is now North America, Europe, and Asia; the southern continent, Gondwanaland, was made up of South America, Africa, Australia, India, and Antarctica. About 130 million years ago, South American separated from the rest of Gondwanaland and became, in effect, a gigantic island; its creatures, which included marsupials and edentates precursors of today s sloths, anteaters and armadillos developed in isolation. North America separated from Eurasia much later; by then it was already well populated with the ancestors of our cats, dogs, rodents, weasels, and other present day mammals. It was also inhabited by monkeys, which had migrated from their original home in Africa up through Europe and into North America before the continental separation was complete. For... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The thicker sections fo the plates are the continents; the thinner parts make up the ocean beds. When two plates meet, the result is geologic upheaval on a vast scale. Such an encounter occurred about 20 million years ago in the region between North and South America. The Cocos Plate, a piece of the Pacific crust some 300 miles wide, moved eastward until it met the crustal plate underlying the Caribbean. The eastern edge of the Cocos Plate was driven beneath the western edge of the Caribbean Plate. As the Cocos Plate was forced downward, the friction, as well as the hear deep within the earth, liquefied its rock into magma, which found release by thrusting up in a chain of volcanoes. The volcanic islands that resulted formed a line of stepping stones between the northern and southern
  • 4. The Issue Of Equal Pay For Equal Work The issue of equal pay for equal work performed by women; is a political hot button in the 2016 presidential campaign. So much so that the stump speeches, for both former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and senator, Bernie Sanders, always include this issue. Since the 1960s, congress and many researchers have tested this theory. In order to affirm the validity of this message, we will perform a five step hypothesis test. In the book, Statistical Techniques in Business Economics, authors D. Lind, W. Marchal S. Wathen (2012), describe how to conduct this test of hypothesis. We seek to determine if two sampled populations, females and males, have the same mean (arithmetic average) wages. The process begins with only the raw data from a 2005 wages database. As a result, the authors further explain: The method described does not require that we know the standard deviations of the populations (2012). For that reason, we assume the sampled populations are equal, but, the standard deviations are unknown. Then, we use the t test as the test statistic, with 30 degrees of freedom. Problem Statement In an online article entitled The Simple Truth About the Gender Pay Gap , published on the AAUW website, author Catherine Hill, PhD, had this to say: Did you know that in 2014, women working full time in the United States typically were paid just 79 percent of what men were paid, a gap of 21 percent? The gap has narrowed since the 1970s, due largely to women s
  • 5. Loans to Cambodia through Kiva There exists an overwhelming amount of people on Kiva who are requesting funds for their loan. When reading each individual s profile it can be rather difficult to choose only one person to which to loan, for each individual seeks the loan to better their lives or the lives of their children. In order to help myself narrow done the list of individuals seeking help, I created a list of preferences of who I was to give the loan. My requirements were that the borrower be a female seeking to help her children obtain a higher education. Upon placing my requirement I was finally able to find the person to whom I desired to give a loan. The chosen individual was Nara from Cambodiaof the Kampon Speu Province. Two million people were forced to evacuate from the cities to the countryside in which they would undertake agriculture work. The Khmer Rouge s goal was to create a rural, classless society and would force people to work in the fields for more than 12 hours a day without adequate rest or food. The Khmer Rouge placed a ban on family relationships and began an aggressive campaign to brainwash children and encourage them to spy on their parents. The children were taught to report their parents to authorities and turn in their parents as enemies of the state. Following their coming into power and the evacuations of the citizens, the Khmer Rouge turned its sights on the people in its own organization. The Khmer Rouge soon claimed that only pure people were qualified to build their revolution. They arrested and killed thousands of their soldiers, military officers and civil servants. In the next three years, the Khmer Rouge would ban religious practice and abolish money, markets, and private property. School, hospital, shops, offices, and monasteries were closed. The Khmer Rouge persecuted intellectuals, city residents and minorities; murdering hundreds of thousands of people over the three year period. During the Khmer Rouge regime tensions built between the Khmer Rouge and communist Vietnam. In 1979, the Vietnamese invaded Cambodia and push the Khmer Rouge to
  • 6. The Power Of The Executive Branch As the President of the United States, we see him, or possibly in the future her, as the supreme or ultimate power since they are the highest on the chain. For instance, just as monarchies saw their king or queens. The power of the Executive Branch is solely invested in the President, also assumes the position as head of state and Commander in Chief of the armed forces. Everything you hear from the President is supposed to carry a heavy weight because it is coming from a higher authority figure. You would think with a stroke of a feather light pen and whatever wish the President has asked for has been granted. Not exactly. The president has powers outlined specifically by Article II Section II of Constitution. Although it implements fewer explicit powers to the president than it does Congress. Opposing popular belief, our president powers are ...far more limited in power than we think (Botsch). Giving these limitations are some examples to... One of the most prominent issues that arise within the President s powers to get things approved is the U.S. Constitution itself. Usually the result of congressional override; not only does it limits powers of the President but Congress, as well. It comes downs to the approval of a bill, the proposed legislation goes through congress before a decision is made. As we learned, if a President veto s a bill, Congress is allowed to override it with 2/3 s vote. Vice versa, if congress proposes a bill, the Presidents has some rights approve
  • 7. The Nsa s National Security Agency The National Security Agency s (NSA) warrantless collection of metadata has been questioned on constitutional grounds. Specifically, the NSA s program has been argued to be in violation of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution, which states that all citizens are to be free from any unreasonable search or seizure. Proponents of the NSA s collection of metadata believe that it is a crucial tool in preventing terrorist attacks, while opponents of the program believe that its questionable constitutional validity, along with its lack of clear success in preventing a single terrorist attack, leaves the NSA s metadata collection program in desperate need of reform or outright abolishment. I.THE NSA S PURPOSE AND THE EVOLUTION OF GOVERNMENT SURVEILLANCE It is important to note what the NSA is tasked to do before discussing the constitutional arguments against its metadata program. As Abdulmajeed Alhogbani, in his work, Going Dark: Scratching the Surface of Government Surveillance, informs, the agency has two tasks: 1) information assurance, which prevents foreign agents from obtaining classified information, and 2) signals intelligence, which collects and analyzes foreign intelligence (475). Metadata collection does not fall under either of these tasks. Prior to the establishment of the National Security Agency in 1952, the earliest surveillance measure enacted in the United States was the Communications Act of 1934, which centralized the regulatory process of

  • 9. What Are The Similarities Between The Crucible And The... Comparison between The Crucible and The Scarlet Letter The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Crucible written by Arthur Miller are two pieces of literature written around the same era. They were written in the early days of the Massachusetts colony. Both of the pieces of literature have many similarities including the theme, setting, conflicts, and some major plot elements. But the two pieces of literature are also very different. They both use have a common theme but are completely different stories. Each of the plays tell a different portrayal of the effects of sin on the protagonist, how they deal with the situation, and also how they will be effected by their choices made throughout the play. A common thing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both use theme to develop the leading male characters, and the conflicts that they both go through. Another important use of this theme is to show the effects of their confession when they finally tell their sins. When John confesses, he realizes he may have a little bit of good in him, and is not afraid to be hung as a witch. When the minister confesses, he tells the entire town that everyone sins. After confessing he is eligible to let his daughter kiss him in public and die a happy man. Even though both works have a common theme, they develop a plot in a different way. The common theme allows the authors something that is different in both works and uses symbolism in each. In The Crucible John signing his name on the paper confessing the witch craft is stating that he gives up his freedom and the last of his dignity. He knew after signing this he would be an outcast, which could be worse than death. When he tears the confession paper, this symbolizes him breaking free and not giving away his life. The Scarlet Letter the A represents sin and everyone in Boston notices it and she is shunned. She was known as a sinner and he baby was the devil s baby. She learns to live with It and except. In both, symbolism is used to help the theme, but symbolizes a different

I dreamed of being able to decide what classes I wanted to take and I was excited about finally being able to do what I have always wanted to do: music education. That is what led me to Montclair State University. Aside from the outstanding reputation Montclair has as an institution for learning, my Band Director, an alumni, has never spoken a single negative word regarding Montclair. When I talk to any alumni, they talk about Montclair like if they got the chance, they would do it all over again, that level of love for Montclair makes me want to be a part of it even more. Chromatography Essay Chromatography is a separation technique in which the mixture to be separated is dissolved in a solvent and the resulting solution, often called the mobile phase, is then passed through or over another material, the stationary phase. The separation of the original mixture depends on how strongly each component is attracted to the stationary phase. Substances that are attracted strongly to the stationary phase will be retarded and not move alone with the mobile phase. Weakly attracted substances will move more rapidly with the mobile phase. Liquid chromatography is an analytical technique that is useful for separating ions or molecules that are dissolved in a liquid phase. If the sample solution is in contact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The compounds are separated by collecting aliquots of the column effluent as a function of time. Conventional Liquid Chromatography is most commonly used in preparative scale work to purify and isolate some components of a mixture. It s also used in ultra trace separations where small disposable columns are used once and then discarded. Analytical separations of solutions for detection or quantification typically use more sophisticated high pressure liquid chromatography instruments. In liquid chromatography, the separator is called the column and consists in most cases of a tube filled with porous material called the stationary phase. A liquid, called the mobile phase, flows through the tube between the particles of stationary phase material. A liquid sample is taken from a mixture to be analyzed and introduced to a part of the system that is at elevated pressure. The sample is then transported to a separator by the flow in the system. After the column the separated compounds enter the detector, which measures a physical or chemical property of each, now relatively pure, compound and creates a proportional electronic signal. By calibrating with a standard mixture of known compounds, the nature of the compound in the

In 1940, George Selkirk made ~$12,000, much more than did Josh Gibson. Because of this, Selkirk s daughter was able to walk around with good quality shoes on her feet, whereas Josh Gibson s daughter didn t have that luxury because her father wasn t making as much money. Zapruder Movie Meaning This essay aims to further extend Pasolini s argument on the long take through a textual analysis of the Zapruder film and comparing it to a two minute extract of The Eternal Frame. Pasolini s essay on the observation on the long shot compares the long take to life. The long take as we know is a single point of view that lacks narrative and meaning; it is the single point of view that makes it a reality, reality is always in the present tense. A montage creates meaning and coherence to a film, but by doing so it transforms the present into the past. Much like our lives, we live in the present time; we see and hear reality from a single point of view. Like the long take, our lives have no real narrative or meaning as long as we live. Death does to a life what montage does to a film, it creates the meaning to a life but it also transforms the present into the past. The Zapruder film is one long take, an accidental piece of footage that happened to be one of the most important in the history of film. The 26 seconds piece of footage aimed to document Kennedy s motorcade as it drove by, instead Zapruder captured the only piece of film that records Presidents Kennedy s assassination in 1963 in Dallas, Texas. The film is one long take that lacks any editing; in other words the film is arguably rushes that have not been given its final form, it is an unfinished piece. Yet, its incompleteness is what makes the film the truest form of footage, it has not been meddled with and it is

The Environmental Protection Agency ( Epa ) Essay During and since World War II the United States has produced millions of tons of toxic wastes during the manufacturing and processing of products. These hazards were often left abandoned and no one really paid attention to their effect on our environment. In the 1980s Congress established a Superfund Program. It was left for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to administer the superfundprogram, to find these hazardous sites, investigate and determine the worst ones, and then clean up those sites across the United States. Over 15,000 sites were identified and 1,400 were named to the National Priorities List (NPL). One of the towns was Picher Oklahoma named in the Tar Creek Superfund Site. Picher and the neighboring towns covering over a 50 square mile area became known as the Tar Creek Superfund Site and were officially put on the NPL on 8 September 1983 ( challenge posed to children s health by mixtures of toxic waste: the Tar Creek Superfund Site as a case study, n.d.). The stress strain curves of the pure SR and SR composites are presented in Figure 3(a), indicating that the stresses at 100% strain and 300% strain increase with increasing content of BT particles. The main reason for the increased stress at definite elongation is the reinforcing effect of the inorganic particles [38]. In addition, the elongation at break of the SR composites decreased after adding BT particles, attributed to the BT particles acting as physical links, thus limiting the flexibility of macromolecular silicone. Because of increasing interfacial areas between the BT particles and SR matrix, the number of physical links increased significantly in the system, decreasing the elongation at break of the SR composites with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two factors can be used to explain this phenomenon. The first one is the BT particles interact strongly with the macromolecular SR, thus restricting the mobility of the molecular chains. The second one is the polymer chain entanglement limits the movement of polymer chains [38]. The interface polarization will increase the dielectric constant as well as the dielectric loss of the composites. As shown in Figure 4(b), the dielectric loss tangent of the BT/SR composites is larger than that of the pure SR at low frequency. In addition, the dielectric loss displays a sharp decrease at a low frequency (lower than 1 kHz), caused by the DC leakage current. However, the electrode polarization can be excluded as there is no simultaneous decrease in the dielectric constant and dielectric loss with increasing frequency [42]. However, because of the weak polarization of the silicone matrix, the dielectric loss tangent of all the samples is lower than 0.015. The low dielectric loss means just a little energy dissipation during actuation, a big advantage for dielectric elastomer. The electromechanical performance of the SR composites was tested using circular actuators. Considering the safety and utility, the loaded electric field on the samples was 50 kV/mm. The actuated strains of the BT/SR composites are shown in Figure 5(a). With increasing electric field, the actuated strain of the samples increases significantly, because it is proportional to the square

In almost every scene in which Buckingham was portrayed, he proved himself to be a rebellious villain over and over. • 35. Essay on Analysis of Hopkin s Poem God s Grandeur Gerard Hopkins wrote God s Grandeur in 1877 right around the time he was ordained as a priest. The poem deals with his feelings about God s presence and power in the world. He could not understand how the people inhabiting the earth could refuse or be distracted from God. This confusion was due to the greatness of God s power and overall existence that, to Hopkins, seemed impossible and sinful to ignore. However, as the poem progresses Hopkins expresses hope in the world and God s everlasting presence in it. This poem has much meaning to it and expresses the thoughts and feelings that Hopkins was having at the time he wrote it. The first point is the prominence and greatness of God in our world. The second builds off of the first, questioning the lack of respect, worship, or simple acknowledgement of God by the human race. The third point continues Hopkins s thinking process by expressing hope in the Holy Ghost and his never ending existence in the world. The first point of the poem that Hopkins desired to convey is in the first three lines. The poem starts off by giving a description of God s grandeur in our world. The first line is representative of the time period that the poem was written, The world is charged with the grandeur of God. Hopkins s use of the word charged to describe God s presence, may it have been intentional or not, reflects the world that Hopkins lived in. In 1877 electricity had been discovered, but it was still an uncontrollable and indescribable mystery. It was a power that could not be fully explained just like God s presence on the earth, something that is still as much of a mystery today. It was almost God like, and was a perfect was to explain God s existence. Another comparison is made at the end of line three, It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil. The world under God is being compared to the ooze of oil, expressing how God s will holds the earth together like oil. Throughout the poem Hopkins uses alliteration very effectively and in these first few lines it is blatantly evident. Certain consonants are used in

She also proposes to handle excessive price setting for medical companies, out of pockets costs, and providing credit to those facing higher health expenses. In Daredevil, the world is a far brighter place, and forgiving in its nature in its greater forms. In this world, it is vice that hides virtue. The devil on the streets is seen as a hero, hearing of young children being kidnapped and saving them, hearing of a girl being mugged and making sure she finds her way home. Moreover, while in this world, there may be darkness in people, it is illustrated through the lighting and the idea of goodness that there will be light somewhere. Even in the fight scenes seen at night, there is light somewhere at every angle. This point can be further hones with the sublime natures of Matilda and Elektra. The former was seen as the savior of Ambrosio, the one who sucked the poison from his veins, gave him a new life before it was visible that she was bringing him down the path of the sin she planned out for him, the corruption she wrought. Elektra, too, brought destruction and enjoyed each part of it, the beast and never the beauty, killing to kill, and worked to bring Matt to her worldview of violence, of finding it as fun as she did. Yet, she did seek his acceptation, in the same way, shocked that she wasn t changing him, but that it was the other way around. Bilbo shows his change from being a coward to a person who lives life more adventurously and courageously. Some ways he exhibits these actions is when he initially leaves and leaves his home, when he gets kidnaped by a group of goblins he was barely phased by it, and when he goes face to face with Smaug very strong dragon. When he starts he off, he is just a normal person who lives a normal life until he is asked to go on an adventure at first he is frightened but then decides to go. Changes Within The Colonization Of Korea Colonization is the action or process of a foreign culture settling among and establishing control over a native culture of a particular geographical location. This is a simplistic and perhaps innocuous description of the colonization process. In fact, all colonization has some aspect of physical coercion as part of its methodology, practice, and progression. The exertion of physical force by one culture upon another may be sufficient to establish initial or sporadic control by the colonizing entity. However, the constant use of physical force as a measure of control is arduous and maybe impossible to sustain long term. Therefore, a successful colonization must be achieved not just by the implementation of physical coercion, but by fundamentally changing aspects of the native culture. In other words, although brute force may be used at the inception or during the process of colonization, for it to be successful, colonizers must effect changes within the native culture that will lead its members to acquiesce, support and aid in their own colonization. A strong historical example of this was Japan s colonization of Korea. Although aspects of Japan s colonization of Korea was militaristic in nature, its eventual success was possible through psychological, educational and cultural means of control. Korea was formally colonized by Japan in 1910; however, the process of its takeover by Japan began during the Russo Japanese War (1904 5). During the war, negotiations between

First the Armenians in the army were disarmed, placed into labor battalions and then killed. Then the Armenian political and intellectual leaders were rounded up on April 24, 1915, and killed. Finally, the remaining Armenians were called from their homes and told they would be relocated ... and then marched off to concentration camps ... in the desert ... would starve and thirst to death in the burning sun (Armenian Genocide). The company does not go to the bank to borrow the money, because the bank will rate the company as a high risk company. Hence, banks are really tight with their money. Good afternoon (teacher) and classmates. Whilst it may seem a no brainer to cease investment in non renewable power and transfer our effort, resources and investment into developing renewable energy sources, the reality is that we have become so reliant and dependent upon non renewable energy particularly fossil fuels that we must continue to use, develop, and invest in such energy to maintain the living standards that we enjoy today. In our short to medium term future, and in spite of our ever increasing scientific knowledge about the environmental price that we pay in using non renewable energy, we must continue to invest in it. Let me explain why. Environmental Background: The beginning of the industrial revolution in the eighteenth century led to an exponential increase in our demand for energy to satisfy the growing needs of manufacturing, transport, production of raw materials, healthcare, and agriculture. Simple tasks are taken for granted such as powering up the plethora of devices and gadgets that we cannot live without such as our smart phones and computers. Whilst all of these things are central to our very existence on the planet, our increased dependence on energy has essentially been met to date by the burning of non renewable fossil fuels, such as brown and black coal. There are two major problems associated with reliance on fossil fuels to meet our long term future global energy requirements. Firstly, and put very simply, fossil fuels are non renewable! Once the finite deposits of brown and black coal are exhausted around the planet there will be no more energy generated by this process. Current estimates predict that all known coal deposits will be exhausted within the next 120 years. Secondly, together with deforestation of the planet, the burning of fossil fuels is contributing to a measurable increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in

I don t know why I do that it s like if I don t do it I think I m going to have bad luck. Another thing I do is if I have a pen or pencil, and I will rub it in the palm of my hand until it turns red or until some type of feeling goes away. Even how I walk is odd. If you really pay attention to me I always do two things when I m walking. One of them are I always hold my head down to the side and the other one is I swing both of my arms at the same time. Another thing that makes me odd, I do not like when my foodtouch. If my foods touch I will literally separate every single thing. I guess some people like to mix their foods together, me personally I can t do it. Like one time in the cafeteria I asked for macaroni and yams, the lunch lady literally mixed them together causing me to have to seperate them. Some people said It s all going down the same way . I still till this day will not mix my food together. One of the weirdest things I ve ever done was when I was sitting in my room and out of nowhere I had this urge to cross my eyes. When I did it I couldn t stop, because there was some type of feeling that I had to make myself feel in order for me to stop doing it. They almost got stuck, and every since then I tried so hard to stop myself from doing it again. The second weirdest thing I ve ever done
