Latter Day Saints
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints With this paper we are going to look at The church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints. They are more commonly known as Mormons or just LDS. We are
going to learn about what Mormons view of beliefs of creation and death. At the end of the paper
we will look at how Mormonism compares to my current religions views. However, we need to
understand how Mormonism started and some of the main beliefs they currently hold. Mormonism
was founded by Joseph Smith in the mid 19th century Northeast United States. The largest Mormon
religious body is the Church of JesusChrist of Latter Day Saints (LDS for short) (Mormonism

But what I have found is that, while I do occasionally go to an Assembly of God Church which
is Christian based. What sticks out to me though in doing the research in dealing with death, that
can also help me move forward and find that connection with God and the mourning for my
father. Mourning not only is appropriate; it is also one of the deepest expressions of pure
love:..... Mourning can heighten our faith and our hopes. The Prophet Joseph Smith said, The
expectation of seeing my friends in the morning of the resurrection cheers my soul and makes me
bear up against the evils of life. It is like their taking a long journey, and on their return we meet
them with increased joy (Gillespie, K. L. (2011, May 27).) This to me is the biggest difference
from my understanding of my religion. I have always felt that as long as I said I believed in God
and was typically a good person, I would go to heaven and meet up with my family. However,
for Mormonism, it is not as simple. You have to dedicate your life to God, and to your family.
That is the reason why going on these missionaries are so important to them. You are giving back
to others that are in need and are working to spread the knowledge from the gospel not only about
creation and how to deal with death, but everything in between. While not specifically pertaining to
death and

Methanol To China
Should there be more plastics? No? Because a chinese backed company plans to build a huge
methanol plant in federal way backyard so China can make more plastic gadgets. Currently, the
plant will have 1000 builders and then after it is built it will have 200 permanent job offers, we will
be shipping the methanol to china. In my opinion I disagree because methanol is very dangerous
and hazardous to our health and oceans. One reason is that methanol can cause bad things to
happen to people. When methanol is consumed by humans it can lead to blindness and damage to
the central nervous system. Methanol when consumed can cause death and within the liver,
methanol is broken down to form formaldehyde, a potential cancer agent. The primary danger

Michael Faraday And The Chemistry World
For my term paper I have chosen to study the works of Michael Faraday, a very significant name
in the Chemistry world especially in understanding electrochemistry and electromagnetism. He had
a number of accomplishments over his career including writing a manual of practical chemistry,
discovered a large number of new organic compounds, as well as liquefying what was thought to
be a permanent solid. His largest discovery, and what I will be discussing in this paper is his
advancements in the world of electrochemistry He was at the forefront of producing electric
currents from a magnetic field, invented the first electric motor, was able to demonstrate how
electricity and chemical bonding connect, amongst and array of other accomplishments. Mr.
Michael Faradaywas born on September 22nd, 1791 in Newington Butts, Surrey (New London)
England. He was a child of James Faraday, a blacksmith from Yorkshire and Margaret Hastwell,
who worked around the house. He had three siblings (another born after him) and was born a few
months after they had moved to Newington Butts. His family was struggling when he was
younger due to his father s poor health condition but they stayed close together and attended
church; this gave them a sense of community and support behind them. Michael was able to attend
a day school where he had learned how to read, write, count, and do simple math. He did this until
he was 13 and then had to find work so he could help his family s financial issues. An

Various Trade Measures Affecting Exporters and Importers
The various trade measures affected exporters and importers. The most common type of trade
restriction or intervention measure is the tariff. There are 3 types of tariffs ad valorem, specific
and compound tariffs. However, there is the other most important form of trade restriction or
intervention non tariffs such as quotas, embargoes and sanctions, voluntary export restraints, buy
local legislation, export subsidies, anti dumping and countervailing duties safety measures and
administrative and technical regulations. CONTENT Tariff is a scheduled of duties which state
imposes on goods imported or exported. Duty in this case refers to the quantity of money payable
to the resident customs experts when a delivery of goods enters or leaves a country. The duty
applicable in the case of tariffs (and thus the actual revenue accruing) can be worked out of three
ways. пѓ An ad volorem (meaning in amount to the value ) rate of duty is a fixed percentage of
the customs value of a traded item. пѓ Specific rate of duty is a fixed monetary amount per unit of
the traded item. пѓ Compound rate of duty involves both an ad valorem and a specific rate of
duty being applied to the same product. Government impose tariffs for the following reasons:
пѓ Protection of local industry: import tariffs have the outcome of raising the value of imported
products comparative to similar goods produced in the local market. This places foreign producers
at a competitive disadvantage when selling in the resident

Vanishing Voices Summary
In the article Vanishing Voices by Russ Rymer, given by college board, it describes the effects of
languages that are going extinct. A debate has arisen concerning the want to place restrictions on a
form of speech most people are unaware of, encryption. One of the largest debates has recently
come to light, as the animosity between the The Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) and the major
technology companies regarding encryption reaches new heights. Since the Dotcom boom in the
year 2000 technology has integrated itself into our everyday lives, we use it for baking, shopping,
listening to music, entertainment, text messaging, facetime, and mapping our way in a new place,
to name a few. The electronics that we use everyday contain all of... Show more content on

For many, the idea that government could could have access to all of an individual s personal
information by manipulation of ciphertext is a violation of free speech. The applicable part of
the First Amendment here prohibits the making of any law, abridging the freedom of speech
(The First Amendment). There are an abundance of ways to communicate, we can write words,
we can talk, we can take photographs, we can draw pictures. The Northwest Public Radio (NPR)
published the article, Apple s First Amendment Argument it states that, during the 1990 s. There
was a confrontation in court on whether code, or encryption, is a form of speech . A student at
University of California by the name of Daniel Bernstein, created an encryption software called
Snuffle. He attempted to put it on the Internet, the government made an effort to stop him, using
laws that were meant for the restrictions of firearms and ammunitions. Eric Goldman is a
professor at Santa Clara University School of Law argued in the NPR article, In Fighting FBI,
Apple Says Free Speech Rights Mean No Forced Coding that Daniel Bernstein s code was a form
of speech and therefore protected by the Constitution . Goldman was saying I believe that
privacy is important and I m going to use this software as a platform to protect this right . The
Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals acknowledged that software is a form of speech and has been
treated as such ever since. Therefore if software code is speech, Apple claims the First Amendment
also means the government cannot force Apple to comply with its cause. The FBI wants Apple to
write software code to help it break into the iPhone. The opposing side of this argument is lead by
the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The government is concerned that technology s security
will prevent them from maximizing the safety of the U.S. citizens.

The Silgrim In Dante s Inferno
In literature, as well as in history, there is often a single individual stranded and in need of a
helping hand. This assistance usually comes in various forms, and depends on the context it is
needed for. The support typically guides the individual away from imminent danger, and towards a
second chance or even ultimate salvation. In the first Canto of The Inferno, Dante the pilgrim, the
main character of The Divine Comedy, goes astray from what his culture and tradition consider the
straight road and only by recalling his cultural and personal past he is able to get back on the road
towards redemption.
Dante comprehensively acknowledges that he has lived a life of sin, when he decided to record
his story. Halfway through the route of his life, the pilgrim Dante emerges from his slumber, and

Dante becomes frightened by the animals and loses all hope of climbing the mountain. Dante then
returns to the dark forest, where he notices a figure. Dante then calls out to the presence, unaware
of whether it is man or spirit. The figure then proceeds to identify himself as the shade of Virgil,
who is known to be the greatest poet of ancient Rome. Dante is astonished and delighted,
referring to Virgil as his master. The first Canto states, he must go another way who would
escape this wilderness... you follow me and I will be your guide and lead you forth through an
eternal place. Virgil quickly assumes the role of Dante s spiritual and literal guide. While Virgil is
an admirable character, and someone Dante the poet looks up to, he is still a pagan and cannot
guide Dante past hell, where he is confined. In order to travel with the light of heaven, Dante must
expedition through the darkness of hell, where he will see first hand the consequences of sinning.

Gore Case Analysis Essay
Gore Case Analysis Bill Gore is a primary example of a unique, yet successful, approach on
structuring his business using a lattice system. Lattice systems are organized to promote ingenuity
and performance without hierarchy of authority (Grant, 2010, p. 412). Gore s intent was to create
an environment with self managed associates pursuing personal commitments and working together
to achieve diverse innovations (p. 412). The success of W.L. Gore Associates exercising a lattice
system structure has been admirable but this system has adverse effects including confusion of how
an associate is paid for his contributions. In addition to maintaining Gore s core vision to promote

Relevant Factual Information about the Problem or Decision the Organization Faced Gore s belief
and implementation of a lattice system was successful in his vision for creativity and innovation but
the structure presented a lack of clarity in regards to the amount of compensation given to
employees relating to their specific qualifications, expertise and performance.
Explanation of Relevant Concepts, Theories and Application Derived from Course Materials
Lattice systems grant several advantages for an organization looking to prosper from
diversified talent. However, it creates complicated parameters on how an employee should be
compensated when a framework is not present for guidance. Mayhem (2012) presented Gore s
acknowledgement of the complexity when he stated it s unrealistic for people to set their own
salaries (para 3). Gore s alternative was to compensate based on annual peer reviews. Although
companies should consider peer reviews during an employee evaluation, the associates should not
be in control of the compensation of others. If a company uses this approach it can cause skewed
evaluations with various ratings due to personal differences. Vinson (1996) highlighted this point
by bringing up a concern with conflicted opinions and asking the question, who decides who is
right? (para. 11). As a professional and employee, I prefer to have a clear

Encyclopedia. This word means the interrelation of all knowledge; it is made up of the Greek
prefix en, in, and the nouns kyklos, circle, and paideia, instruction, science, knowledge. In today
s world the simple word of encyclopedia doesn t elicit any strong feelings or produce an order for
censoring by the government, correct? However, when it was first published in 1751 the
Encyclopedia did just that. It was a radical multi volume body of work that provoked a range of
emotions to include being described by some as enlightenment and by others as threatening. This
revolutionary and voluminous text was written and edited by Denis Diderotand numerous other
collaborators over many years. With this work, these individuals were challenging the status quo of
the state and the Church during that time period. Amid so much controversy and continued
opposition, Diderot wrote an article in 1755 aptly named Encyclopedia to expand upon the goals of
the enormous project. Its objective best explained by Diderot as, All things must be examined,

Voltaire s Portrait Of Religious Figures In Candide
Prompt: Discuss Voltaire s portrait of religious figures in Candide. Voltaire made heavy connections
to religion throughout the story of Candide. The story relates mostly towards Christianity because
of its popularity at the time, but Voltaire also relates to Judaism and Islam. Voltaire focused on
making a mockery of each religious figure in the story.
Voltaire was a famous philosopher that was strongly against an organized religion. A quote from
Candide shows Voltaire curiosity of life in general. The quote states, But for what purpose was the
earth formed? He believed in a more open religion rather than a set religion in which you had to
strongly abide by. In Candide, the main character comes across many different religious figures in
which are depicted as corrupt. This includes the Inquisitor, the Jesuit Baron and the Protestant
minister. Voltaire depicts each of these religious figures as self righteous and morally corrupt.
Although, Voltaire does make an exception with the Anabaptist. Anabaptists were often persecuted
which led to Voltaire defending them in the novel. James the Anabaptist... Show more content on

He viewed them as untrustworthy and hypocritical. He continuously uses satire to mock multiple
religions for not demonstrating the practices that they promote. However, Voltaire does defend the
Anabaptist due to the discrimination against Anabaptists in that time period. The death of the
Anabaptists shows that even though a person lives the right way, bad things still happen in this
world. Voltaire promotes that religion is what oneself makes of it. An example of this is shown by
the sage in El Dorado. After being asked how they pray to God, the sage responds and says, We do
not pray to him at all. We have nothing to ask of him. He has given us all we want, and we give
him thanks continually. The sage shows that they do not pray as most organized religions reach, but
instead thank God in their own

Several studies have shown that injection drug users lower their risk of transmitting infectious
diseases when there is a needle exchange program available. There has not been a valid study of
whether or not the amounts of time needles are returned to the exchange programs are harmful to
communities. The Journal of Public Health, conducted surveys, evidence from needle exchange
sites, jails, and institutions that needle exchange programs are effective in reducing illnesses such
as HIV and AIDS (Burt Theide, 2016). Furthermore, Reepalu, Blome, Bjork, Widell, Bjorkman

injection drug use, not only heightens the risk for HIV and AID s, there is also an increase in
Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. However, there studies showed that there is not an increase rate of
cancer diagnoses due to injection drug use. In a study conducted by Bonar and Rosenberg (2014),
they wanted to see if self initiated harm strategies, such as: proper needle sterilization techniques,
proper disposal of needles, and cleaning of the pre injected skin, could help improve the health of

The Effects Of Injury Assessment On Athletes Participating
Soccer like other popular sports has a risk of injury for the athletes participating. As a part of the
sports medicine team it is crucial to be able to treat these injuries effectively and ultimately have
the athlete returning to play as soon as possible. Injuries to the lower extremities are the most
common in soccer. These injuries may be traumatic, such as a kick to the leg or a twist to the knee,
or result from overuse of a muscle, tendon, or bone (1). This information will be helpful when
assessing an injury. The three steps of injury assessment are, determine the type and extent of the
injury, locate signs and symptoms, and finally compare bilaterally to notice any deformities (2).
Our injury assessment is aided by the popular acronym H.O.P.S. Which stands for history,
observation, palpation, and special tests. History is crucial for diagnosing an injury and would
usually be found out by asking questions such as, what happened? , Has it happened before? .
Asking this can locate any repetitive motions or actions that have been causing this injury.
Observation is looking for signs, which are observable deformities such as a rash, swelling, or
dislocation. Next is palpation, which is touching to look for pain or unusual textures on the skin.
Finally, special tests, these are used to rule in/rule out injuries based on specific joint tests. One of
the most important things for any sports medicine team to know is the emergency actions plan for
their facility. This is a

Differences Of Buddhism And Jainism
Different civilizations have different interpretations of how the world came into existence and these
interpretations normally make up the multitude of religions we have. While most religions share
the same values, such as humility, gratitude, truthfulness, and peacemaking, they do not all agree
with the theological part of religion, such as the creation. There are many different philosophies for
this difference, but it is important to know some of the differences to understand a civilization s
culture. Historical art pieces give a glance of early civilizations beliefs. Asia, including South,
Southeast Asia, and East Asia contained many of the same religions. In Southeast Asia and Japan,
Jainism, Hinduism, and Buddhismwere the most common religious affiliations during the Vedic
and Maurya periods. Jainism and Buddhism have similar beliefs about how the world was
created. They both don t believe in a creation story or a Christian God like figure. There is
simply no beginning of the world in their minds. Jainism doesn t believe in Gods; therefore, there
isn t anyone responsible for creation. They have a leader named Vardhamana. They find it more
realistic to say that the world has always existed and has undergone changes as time progresses.
However, these changes are due to nature itself and no higher being (Volatti). Buddhism has similar
thoughts about the origin of the world; however Buddhism does believe in Buddha as a God like
figure. Bertrand Russell explains

Tamora: Gender Constructs in Titus Andronicus
In Shakespeare s plays it is important to understand the historical context of women in the
Elizabethan Age and their role. The Shakespearean era consisted of a misogynistic and patriarchal
society which contrasted with Queen Elizabeth being the head of the state. Even though the most
important person in England was a woman, the common woman was still very limited in her
power and in her independence. Women in this era were dependent on men socially,
economically and sexually. Married women were not allowed to be in the public without their
husbands, they were bound to the domestic area. Women in general were believed to be less
rational than men and always needed male protection and guidance. As they were thought to be
incapable of caring for themselves, it was the men s duty to control their sexuality; the father
had to guarantee that his daughter marries as a virgin and the husband had to control his wife so
she would only bear his children. Economically women were dependent on men because they
were not allowed to have their own business or be involved in trade. They were seen as objects
of bartering that men traded with and treated as if they were property. Women were believed to be
passive objects, this idea of male dominance above women is represented in theology and
philosophy and even supported by medical science: The fact that female sex organs were inside was

The Pros And Cons Of Conversion Therapy
Conversion therapy is the conversion of a person s homosexual or bisexual gender to
heterosexual gender. It is a delicate process, if tempered with it can completely destroy the

year old boy favored feminine behavior over masculine behavior. Psychologist George Rekers
treated the boy by rewarding him when he acted masculine and punished him when he acted
feministically. The psychologist claimed this method would prevent Murphy from turning gay. He

mental health programs. This helped to prevent a lot of minors from undergoing conversion

Chaucer s Retraction In The Canterbury Tales Essay
Different scholars have had different understandings of Chaucer s Retraction and The Canterbury
Tales. The divergent views have drawn different interpretations of the intended meaning and the
context of its existence. Many scholars believe that The Parson s Tale was Chaucer s final work.
Some people feel Chaucer s Retraction was the final one in the collection, while others doubt that
Chaucer was the real author of the repudiation. This dilemma is implored by the fact the
retraction completely disowns the earlier versions of Chaucer s works. Those who agree that
Chaucer s Retraction is the actual work of Geoffrey Chaucer give several reasons why he
disowned his work. They explain what he sought to achieve and how the retraction relates to The
Parson s Tale and the whole framework of The Canterbury Tales
.
The fact that Chaucer s main reason of retracting his tales in The Canterbury Tales is to avoid
accusations arising from writing some of the tales is no secret. The fictions rather use some words
and an approach that at the time would have sounded offensive to the pilgrimage or as a criticism
of the church. He uses the retraction to appeal to not only truth as an ideal virtue but also to the
words of the pilgrims that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While he may have felt the need to retract his works because of his religious piety, many doubt
the sincerity in his deed. The most obvious and seeming answer to the question of why he did it
is that other than fear of condemnation, he wanted to attract diverse readers of his work. The
Parson s Tale and Chaucer s Retraction help to look back on the other tales, which are rather
vulgar in language and obscene in technique. The fact that he chose to end his final touch on The
Canterbury Tales on a religious note is both suspicious and pious. However, what this does is to
reiterate and reaffirm every single idea and practice endorsed in the

Comparing The Diving Bell And The Butterfly
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is a movie presenting the life of Jean Dominique Bauby, a
gentleman who suffered a severe stroke, which caused him to endure a peculiar disorder called
locked in syndrome. The symptoms of this render him paralyzed from head to toe, without the
ability to speak. In the opening of the movie, Bauby is unaware that he cannot speak because he
shows confusion when no one is responding to what he is saying. The only consistent, physical
movement that he has is the ability to move his one functioning eye, and blink his eyelid open and
shut. In order for Bauby to communicate, the speech therapist has instructed him to blink once to
indicate yes and twice to indicate no . Locked in syndrome is a neurological disorder that leaves the
patient aware or their surroundings, memories, and language, but due to the loss of voluntary
movements, speech is lost (Adaes, 2015). Bauby displays all of these symptoms, explaining that he

In order for Jean Bauby to communicate, she would recite him the most commonly used letters in
order repeatedly, having him blink once she reached the letter he desired to communicate. This
allowed him to spell out words and eventually sentences in order to have a form of communication
with the people he interacted with. At the beginning of his treatment, this was very frustrating for
him and he lost hope until he finally decided to stop pitying himself. Other forms of treatment
were with his physiotherapist, Marie, who was teaching him how to swallow. For example, when
she was trying to have him move his tongue from the front of his mouth to his palate, this will
improve his ability to gain use of his tongue again and eventually lead to him being able to swallow

Overpopulation Is Still The Problem
In the article Overpopulation Is Still the Problem, Alon Tal (2013) claims that overpopulation
remains the number one problem facing the world today and discusses various problems and
possible solutions. Tal unveils the falsely assuring news stories refuting overpopulation as a
problem. He particularly dissects Ellis Erle s assertions, in the New York Times, concerning China
s seemingly magical works of technology. Erle comes to the conclusion that China s amazing
technology has and will always be able to keep them out of any problems regarding overpopulation.
Of course Tal is able to rhythmically rebut Erle s claims by explaining that, Anyone with a
teaspoon of historic sensibilities about the country s environmental history might want to mention
its long litany of famines which occurred precisely because carrying capacities were consistently
outstripped by a growing population . Tal then goes on to explain other problems linked directly to
overpopulation in China like the food crisis from 1958 1961 which led to the starvationof over 20
million people. He also discusses the Chinese one child policy describing it as tough medicine
although the application of the policy was flawed he depicts how it has prevented the next round
of famines. Tal ties the China population problems into the rest of the article which is mainly
about how quickly the world is growing and what we need to do about it. He presents distressing
facts like 1 in 8 people in the world suffer from

SWOT analysis
Organizational capabilities are formed when a firm utilizes its resources efficiently and effectively.
For example Goldman Sachs would be able to deliver outstanding customer services by helping the
firms to reduce its debt load. This and other factors help to determine the core competence of
Goldman Sachs.
Furthermore, there are tools in strategic management that helps in analysing the core competencies
of a firm. For example one of the tools that help in analysing the current economic position of firm
is SWOT analysis. Further, it consists of specifying the project and helps to spot the internal and
external factors that are favourable and unfavourable to achieving that objective. The strengths and
weaknesses usually can be arisen from within an organisation, and the opportunities and threats
from external sources could be seen (Pettinger, 2004). Based on the above discussion SWOT

How Do Oaths And Agreements Make Feudalism Work
Oaths and agreements make feudalism work. Oaths are used to create a functioning feudal
system. The structure of the feudal system is a network of social relationships such as oaths,

a Lord ( Feudal System ). Knights maintained loyalty to a Lordto get land (Norris). Oaths are made

Desmond Doss As A Hero Essay
A man named Patrick Stewart once said: There are times, sir, when men of good conscience
cannot blindly follow orders. And Desmond Doss as a Conscientious Objector did not follow
orders to pick up his rifle and kill to serve his country during WWII. He decided to serve his
country in a different way, to serve as a medic and to save lives instead of taking them and never
to pick up a weapon to violate God s commandment that thou shalt not kill. And even without a
weapon Desmond was able to save 75 men, and I admire Desmond for holding to his beliefs and
being a true hero. Desmond could have easily retreated down the face of Hacksaw Ridge with the
rest of his squadron and left those men up there, but he didn t. Every single time he went to rescue

The Bible By The Poisonwood Bible
Midterm
Movies and books about missionaries haven t portrayed missionaries in a positive light. Fiction
writers and movie producers have led people on to believe, that missionaries are self serving and
as having specific intentions. One of the prime examples of misrepresenting a missionary; is the
book called The Poisonwood Bible. I had to read The Poisonwood Bible in an English class.
The Poisonwood Bible is the story of a missionary named Nathan Price and his family. Nathan
was Reverend and he was mean to his wife and children. Nathan and his family lived in the
Congo. He was disrespectful to his wife and his children were terrified of him. I remember reading
the book thinking, how does he represent God?
Missionaries are sent out to cross cultural barriers and spread the gospel. Missionaries are not sent
too foreign countries to destroy or to break the people down. Missionaries have faced scrutiny,
because of the negative of missionaries in movies and in books. There some positive movies made
about missionaries.
Jesus was the perfect missionary. Jesus went to different places and taught the word of God. Jesus
drew people unto him. Jesus told his disciples, that if they follow him, he would make them
fishermen of men. Jesus taught anywhere. Jesus delivered the word so profoundly.
Jesus was from the lineage of Abraham. God made a covenant with Abraham to make him the
father of many nations. According to Matthew Jesus was the Messiah for all people. When Jesus

The Chimney Sweepers By William Blake
The Chimney Sweepers
William Blake has written two poems with the same title of Chimney Sweeper, however each
poem was written to portray a different perspective of similar situations. The poem Chimney
Sweep (Songs of Experience) is written in a bleaker scope compared to Chimney Sweep (Songs of
Innocence) which happens to be much more optimistic.Willaim Blake had written these stories as
foils of one another and which has helped readers compare and contrast the messages that the
poems are trying to illustrate.
In the Chimney Sweeper (Song of Experience), William Blake tells the story of a young chimney
sweeper who was sold into his profession. When the boy is asked about his parents he replies that
They are both gone up to the church to pray , meaning they are around to look after the child.
The little boy continues on explaining how he deceives his parents so they may think that he is
happy, however the truth is that he knows he is in a profession that he will mostly die from and
is unhappy because of it. The little boy finishes off the conversion stating that his parents are gone
to praise God and his Priest and King, Who make up a heaven of our misery . The little boy
basically damns god and societies highers up for putting him in the position that he is in.

Spotlight Movie Essay
The movie Spotlight is about a group of journalist who work at the Boston Globe. The film follows
the journalist as they investigate allegations against John Geoghan, a priest accused of molesting
over 80 boys. During their investigation, the team of writers discover that there are over 80 more
priests in Boston who have molested children. The journalists are faced with opposition from the

church, exposing many other organizations who protected the illegal activity within the Archdiocese.
There is a scene in the film where Mike, one of the journalist covering the case, returns to The

NEUROTIC generally are better at performing arts PSYCHOTICS are high in independence, they

coupled with stability it is very advantageous, if coupled with instability it is disastrous. Research
into Eysencks dimensions comes in the form of questionnaires which merely ask people details
about themselves, hobbies and preferences which can then be scored objectively. Therefore they
share some similarities with the measurement techniques of other psychologists. Eysenck presented
large samples of people with questions about themselves, he then factor analysed their responses to
find certain personality attributes which are found together. For example, a sociable person tends
to be talkative, impulsive and lively these all arise from an underlying personality trait. For the
presentation, Katie produced a shortened version of Eysencks Personality Inventory (EPI), which
she explained to the class. (See attached questionnaire) There are a numerous questions each
relating to the N and E score. Your response to each question dictates whether you get a mark or
not. There are no right or wrong answers as the questionnaires are purely subjective. One of the
biggest problems with personality measurement is that we have to assume that people are being
honest when they answer the questions about themselves. Form B on the questionnaire is not

Miller V. Alabama Case Study
Roman Colon
Pennsylvania State University: Capitol Campus
Introduction
On the Summer night of July 15, 2003, Evan Miller along with an accomplice committed murder
by the way of battery and arson (Oyez). Nearly a decade later, this case would play a crucial role
in the Supreme Court decision on mandatory life without parole sentences of juveniles. In a
decision which relied heavily on the beliefs and opinions of those present, the court argued the
culpability of youth with regards to actions such as murder. Much of the rationale used on the date
of the oral argument stemmed from the former cases of both Roper V. Simmons (2005) and

Both boys eventually confessed to the murder during police questioning. Due to Miller s prior
offenses as well as his mental maturity the district attorney was able to transfer the case from
juvenile court to adult court. In 2006 before a jury, Miller was found guilty as an adult and charged
with murder in the course of arson. In the state of Alabama this crime carries a mandatory
punishment of life without parole.
In the companion case of Jackson V. Hobbs, Kuntrell Jackson who then was also 14 years of age,
accompanied by two friends attempted to rob a video game store in the month of November,
1999 (Miller, 2012). As Kuntrell Jackson sat outside of the store, Derrick Shields threatened the
clerk Laurie Troup with a sawed off shotgun as he demanded money. Troup was non compliant
and resulted in Shields firing and killing her (Miller, 2012). Much like in the case of Evan Miller,
Jackson was tried as an adult and found guilty of capital felony murder and aggravated robbery. In
the state of Arkansas, a defendant who is charged with capital murder is sentenced to mandatory
life in prison without the chance of parole.
The Eighth Amendment guarantees individuals the right not to be subjected to excessive sanctions
and requires that punishments are proportionate to the crime committed. (National Conference of

Joh John R. Wooden s Analysis
In the notes it describes communitas as a group of people sharing common cultural practices,
values, and/or identities (Bustad, lecture, 2017). This relates back to sport and physical activity
because although each individual player may live in different locations than another, when they
come together for this one sport and act as a team, they share the same values of the game. They
also share the same type of identity when playing on the same team or involved in the same
physical activity as another individual.
John R. Wooden was an American basketballplayer coach and teacher. He taught philosophy which
highly influenced his coaching style. Wooden created the Pyramid of Success, which took him
seventeen years to fully construct. The pyramid works as building blocks, each row acts as a
foundation for the one above it. Wooden s pyramid of success consists of: industriousness,
friendship, loyalty, cooperation and enthusiasm in the first row. The second row has: self control,
alertness, initiative, and intentness. Following this in the next row is: condition, skill, and team

More than The Drum Beat
O.M.G, I love that beat. The few years I have spent in the United States of Americas, more generally
in the western culture, it is very common to hear young people embrace such phrases in
appreciating music. In non western culture, music is always created for very specific purposes and
one cannot just love that beat. Music is more than just the beat, rhythm and a sing along melody. In
this paper, I will compare the traditional purpose of music and the culture of the drum in Native
American and Ugandan tribes. Dr. Peck, in her book, Native American Music, defines culture as
way of life of a people, learned and transmitted from one generation to the next The similarities in

Stand and Deliver in the Film Blackboard Jungle
The controversial 1955 movie Blackboard Jungle, adapted from the novel The Blackboard
Jungle by Evan Hunter, follows the experiences of a new teacher, Mr. Richard Dadier played by
Glen Ford, at the all boys inner city North Manual High School. The school s students are
juvenile delinquents exhibiting violent and anti social behavior. The film portrays the challenges
Mr. Dadier and the other teachers face in their efforts to reach the students and capture their
interests to learn. The result of the violence he experiences at school is revealed in Mr. Dadier s
home life as well; the effect it has on his wife causes him to consider resigning his position at the
school. In a subplot, another new teacher at the school, an attractive single woman, Miss Lois
Hammond played by Margaret Hayes, is attracted to Mr. Dadier.
The movie represented an important change in films, by presenting relevant cultural issues
occurring in society. The film similarly had a significant effect in music by using Rock n Roll
music in the soundtrack, making Bill Haley and the Comets Rock Around the Clock an instant hit
song. The movie received Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay; Best
Cinematography; Best Art Direction; and Film Editing. Turner Classic Movies (TCM)
acknowledged the soundtrack among the most influential of all time explaining it by stating:
MGM brought Hollywood into the Rock n Roll era with Blackboard Jungle. In search of the kind of

The Pros And Cons Of Restraint
Restraints limit a patient s movement. This brings up many ethical debates and issues. There are
certain guidelines that should be followed when it comes to using restraints. It is important to know
the different kinds of restraints, how to apply a physical restraint properly and how to administer a
chemical restraint safely. It is important to consider alternatives as the use of restraints can present
risk and negative outcomes.
History of Restraints Restraints were incorporated into health care many decades ago. In the
late 1970s, more than 25% of U.S residents in long term care facilities were restrained compared
to a current average of 5% (Taylor, Lillis, Lynn, 2015, p. 707). Since 1987, the federal
government and accrediting agencies have worked to reduce or eliminate the use of restraints
(Taylor et al. 2015, p. 708). Also according to Taylor, Lillis, and Lynn (2015) a Safety Alert from
the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1995 informed nurses and other members of the
health care team the risks of using side rails, especially when all four side rails are up.
Different Types of Restraints There are three categories of restraints. The three categories are
physical, chemical, and seclusion. According to Springer (2015), a physical restraint is a device that
keeps the patient from moving freely or from the patient harming themselves or other people
nearby. Chemical restraints are drugs that are administered that do the same thing a physical
restraint does.

Analysis Of The Painting Two Women Of The Woods By Vincent...
On November 2013, at an auction in New York City, the painting Two women in the woods by
Vincent Van Gogh, a famous Dutch artist in expressionism and impressionism, was sold at the
price of $689,000 (Lot: 17 VINCENT VAN GOGH, 2013; Van Gogh, 2008). Besides, Silent
Majority , a painting by Banksy, an English graffitiartist, was brought to the auction in Paris and its
recent price has reached ВЈ445,792, which is roughly at $676,000 (Banksy, 2014; Banksy s Silent
Majority fetches more than ВЈ445k in Paris, 2015). As they are clearly seen, the prices for the two
paintings are about the same, which is interesting because one is obviously a well known artist
all over the world, whereas the other one is known for his graffiti paintings, which is also
considered to be an act of vandalism all along the walls in England. Therefore, what graffiti
actually is and why there are two different perspectives on the characteristics of graffiti is a cute
issue. This essay will oppose the idea that graffiti is vandalism by demonstrating two main
points. First, graffiti is a type of art, and last but not least, graffiti can help develop the economic
as well as the job opportunities for lower income class. Graffiti is more and more widely known
and considered art. First of all, what is the definition of art? Aristotle (300s B.C.E), a famous
Greek philosopher, acknowledged that art is the realization in external form of a true idea, and is
traced back to that natural love of imitation, which

Sunscreen And The World Of Sunscreen
Perceptions on Sunscreen
Welcome to the exciting world of sunscreen. Sunscreen is a particular type of product that is
particularly designed for protecting the skin from the sun s ultraviolet rays. At the Healing Institute,
research is said to have suggested that wearing sunscreen is something everyone should do. It will
be the mission of the Healing Institute to ensure that each and every individual walking planet
Earth understands why sunscreen is necessary. The approach of the campaign that will be executed
will be twofold: 1) to demonstrate the benefits of sunscreen and 2) express the social psychological
dynamics surrounding the use of sunscreen with the express purpose of altering the current
attitudes surrounding sunscreen wearing.
Benefits of Wearing Sunscreen Sunscreen per Be Health and Relax (2009) is a product that
contains a blocker that protects the skin from UVA and UVB rays. The former type of rays
cause sunburn, while the latter damages the skin and is a strong cause of skin aging at a
premature level. Sunscreens have what is known as an SPF, or sun protection factor. In order to be
effective, each sunscreen product should have one of at least 30+. Sunscreens that individual
consumers should purchase should have at a minimum of 6% or more physical blockers that
protect the skin. Most, if not all sunscreens are made of active ingredients that fall within two
specific categories: reflectors and absorbers. Sunscreens come in either mousses, lotions, creams or

Essay about Test-Retest Reliability,
1.Describe an example of test retest reliability. Test retest reliability is conducting the same test
with the same respondents at different moments of time. For example, a group of participants is
given a personality test and then are given the same is tested at a later time, maybe a month or
year later (Kline, 2005). 2.If the correlation between test scores at Time 1 and Time 2 is 0.85,
how would this be interpreted? The correlation between Time 1 and Time 2 is 0.85 and is
significant (0.000); however, if the reliability drops from 0.85 it must be decided if the test needs
to be reexamined (Kline, 2005). 3.What are some problems associated with reliability assessed via
the test retest method? The problem with reliability assessed... Show more content on

6.Why is internal consistency such an easy way to assess reliability from a methodological
perspective? The internal consistency has items that are intended to measure the same
characteristic, and this makes it easier to establish reliability (Kline, 2005). For example, you
can use 6 different items related to depression (Kline, 2005). 7.If you obtained a reliability
estimate of 0.80 on a test, how would you interpret it and use the test? This is an acceptable
value of alpha, making the test reliable (Kline, 2005). Chapter 8 1.If a Kendall s coefficient of
concordance of 0.70 is obtained, what type of data has been analyzed and what can be
concluded about the reliability? The Kendall s coefficient of concordance is an index of
interrater reliability of ordinal data, in this case indicating that the reliability is low (Kline, 2005).
2.If a Cohen s kappa of 0.70 is obtained, what type of data has been analyzed and what can be
concluded about the reliability? Cohen s kappa measures the agreement between two raters only,
and it can be concluded that the reliability is low in this example (Kline, 2005). 3.What is
reliability generalization? Reliability generalization examines reliability of scores from tests and
detect the causes of measurement error (Kline, 2005). Compare and contrast inter rater, test retest,
parallel forms, and internal consistency reliability. What are the advantages and disadvantages of
each?

Analysis Of The Book The Looking At Irene
Louise Erdrich s Shadow Tag is about a dysfunctional marriage. However, it features characters
that were both hurt and helped by the recording and, to some degree the commodification of
American Indian history. American Indian history both helps and hurts the characters in
Shadow Tag. There are some factors that make the difference between helping and hurting each
character. In addition, some characters benefit more from their past compared to others. In
contrast, some characters hurt more from their pass send some of their counterparts. Irene, Gil
and Riel are the three main characters that are mainly affected by American and Indian history.
Nevertheless, each and every character is impacted by his or her past and heritage in some way
or other. In the looking at Irene, one of the most important characters in the book, we can see
how American Indian history has impacted her life experience. She grew up reading primarily
critically acclaimed classic novels. From these works, she discovered a certain way of looking
at the world. In addition, the book says she read sparked her fascination with history. This led
her to pursue a degree in history. However, she was never able to finish her degree. Her main job
is being a stay at home mom, which is when she is not posing for one of Gil s paintings. Due to
the stress that comes along with working with the family member, Irene spends the majority of her
waking day with an elegant wine glass in her hand. Some would consider her a

Abigail Adams Sparknotes
Abigail Adams was a wise and educated woman that had one wonderful but challenging life.
Like any other women in the 1700s, she grew up to become someone s wife, bear children and
live in the private life of her husband s house. Abigail has a slightly different story than other
women though. She grew up with her sisters and brother and had a tutor so they became literate,
which was not a thing for women. Educated men didn t want a wife that was smart, they wanted
someone to take care of them and the children and just about nothing else. In the following
paragraphs we will talk about who the author is, a back story of who Abigail is, and the thesis of
the book as a whole.
The author of this book, Charles W. Aker, was born in Indianapolis, April 2, 1920 to Ira and Mary
Bird Akers. He was a US Navy vet and served in World War II in 1942 to 1946. After he fought in
WWII he became a history teacher at the Eastern Nazarene College in 1948 then became the
Director of Quincy Junior College in 1959. He then taught at Geneva College in Pennsylvania
after which he went to Oakland University in 1966 and was appointed as chair of the history
department in 1968. As well as being a teacher, he was also a member of many societies like the
Colonial Society of Massachusetts and the American Historical Association just to name a few.
Charles was a very well established author in his time and died February 1, 2009. https:/

The Road
The Road is an enthralling movie experience of the book that brings out powerful
emotions to the audience by visually depicting the sacred connection between father and son.
The world has practically ended and it is up to the survivors to choose how they keep
living in this post apocalyptic world. Many people resort to cannibalism which our main
characters did not, for they are the good guys that are carrying the fire everywhere they go.
Through many ordeals and nightmares of being eaten, our father and son duo learns from each
other on how to still be human in this godforsaken world.
Despite the dark and grim theme, this movie gave me a pleasant surprise. A lot of people
may not like the movie for its gore and violence, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adults, especially ones with children will be able to
sympathize with the movie very well. Most parents will be able to appreciate the messages that
are being imparted from the movie to the audience, reaching the full potential of the film as
intended. Teenagers, on the other hand, would also be interested in this movie, mainly because of
its post apocalyptic genre that has been booming in the past few years.
In the movie, a lot of green screen was used, and I am surprisingly okay with it. The
movie was shot beautifully, camera angles succeeded in showing the bleak backgrounds and a
very good atmosphere creation overall. Hillcoat also likes to do a lot of close ups which would
be very corny if the actors were not able to perform as intended. One thing that bothered me at
the end of the movie is the fact that another family was following the father and the son all along.
What would be the reason for that? I feel the need for that to be justified.
Overall, the movie is quite depressing, but in a good way. It is definitely not a movie that
you can easily watch and relax to, but altogether an intense experience. This movie is also a

Similarities Between A Thousand Splendid Suns And...
THE FATALITY OF LOVE IS AN INNEVITABLE FACET TO HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS
Trauma and tragedy are inevitably regular and pervasive outcomes in romantic literature. Our
literary heritage is filled with heartbreak, failed relationships and broken individuals. Wuthering
Heights and Khaled Hosseini s A Thousand Splendid Suns both exhibit broken relationships,
through a backdrop of conflict in swar torn Afghanistan and the restrictions of Victorian social
hierarchy played out on the wild and windswept North York Moors destroying these implied
impervious bonds. 1. LACK OF CONTROL OVER MARRIAGES In both novels we experience
a high sense of the women lacking in control, one significant being the lack of control over their
marriages. The culture of set societal rules and conventions urges Catherine to be with Edgar,
compelling her to be the greatest woman of the neighbourhood due to them being relatively firm
in their gentry s status. This suggests the importance of her social status against the nature of her
love for Heathcliff stating, we would be beggars , through employing the word beggars the reader
crafts the idea of her belief that she won t survive without her status. Catherine admits It would
degrade me to marry Heathcliff now; so he shall never know how I love him Thus implying a
swelling sense of her vanity and pride; enough to enjoy the position she gains from being married
to Edgar despite her admiration for Heathcliff, being more than (herself) than (she is) and

Compare And Contrast Hemingway And Faulkner s Writing Style
Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner were two of the most influential writers of the twentieth
century. While they lived during the same period, their writing styles differed drastically. This can
be seen in texts such as Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants and A Clean, Well Lighted Place,
and Faulkner s Barn Burning . Hemingway s style puts little focus on specific characterdetails,
which makes his stories seem like they could be about any person, including the reader, while
Faulkner s style puts a lot of focus on specific character details, which makes every detail and every
character seem important to the reader. Both authors have styles indirect to their points, which
forces the readers to figure out information on their own and leaves the purposes of texts more open
to interpretation.
The writing styles of Hemingway and Faulkner differ in numerous ways, the most prominent of
which being their narrative focus. With Hemingway writing short, simple sentences, there was
little discussion of the specific traits of each of characters in his stories. In both Hills Like White
Elephants and A Clean, Well Lighted Place, the main characters are almost all unnamed. They
lack specific ages, races, or nationalities. The only details included about the characters are those
that are directly involved with the plot, such as in A Clean, Well Lighted Place, where the waiters
are labeled as being young and old . By not having any certain traits tied to the main characters,
Hemingway allows for those characters to be anyone. When the reader reads about a situation
happening to a person, they have an easier time empathizing with them because the character can
be more like them. This also allows for characters to represent concepts the reader can understand,
either by living them out on a daily basis or seeing them lived out through other people. Unlike
Hemingway s few details about characters, Faulkner goes into depth about all the characters in his
stories, including his short story Barn Burning . At one point, the main character said this when
describing his father, There was something about his wolflike independence and even courage when
the advantage was at least neutral which impressed strangers, as

  • 2. Latter Day Saints of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints With this paper we are going to look at The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They are more commonly known as Mormons or just LDS. We are going to learn about what Mormons view of beliefs of creation and death. At the end of the paper we will look at how Mormonism compares to my current religions views. However, we need to understand how Mormonism started and some of the main beliefs they currently hold. Mormonism was founded by Joseph Smith in the mid 19th century Northeast United States. The largest Mormon religious body is the Church of JesusChrist of Latter Day Saints (LDS for short) (Mormonism ReligionFacts. (2015, March 17)) One the most important things that stand out the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But what I have found is that, while I do occasionally go to an Assembly of God Church which is Christian based. What sticks out to me though in doing the research in dealing with death, that can also help me move forward and find that connection with God and the mourning for my father. Mourning not only is appropriate; it is also one of the deepest expressions of pure love:..... Mourning can heighten our faith and our hopes. The Prophet Joseph Smith said, The expectation of seeing my friends in the morning of the resurrection cheers my soul and makes me bear up against the evils of life. It is like their taking a long journey, and on their return we meet them with increased joy (Gillespie, K. L. (2011, May 27).) This to me is the biggest difference from my understanding of my religion. I have always felt that as long as I said I believed in God and was typically a good person, I would go to heaven and meet up with my family. However, for Mormonism, it is not as simple. You have to dedicate your life to God, and to your family. That is the reason why going on these missionaries are so important to them. You are giving back to others that are in need and are working to spread the knowledge from the gospel not only about creation and how to deal with death, but everything in between. While not specifically pertaining to death and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Methanol To China Should there be more plastics? No? Because a chinese backed company plans to build a huge methanol plant in federal way backyard so China can make more plastic gadgets. Currently, the plant will have 1000 builders and then after it is built it will have 200 permanent job offers, we will be shipping the methanol to china. In my opinion I disagree because methanol is very dangerous and hazardous to our health and oceans. One reason is that methanol can cause bad things to happen to people. When methanol is consumed by humans it can lead to blindness and damage to the central nervous system. Methanol when consumed can cause death and within the liver, methanol is broken down to form formaldehyde, a potential cancer agent. The primary danger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Michael Faraday And The Chemistry World For my term paper I have chosen to study the works of Michael Faraday, a very significant name in the Chemistry world especially in understanding electrochemistry and electromagnetism. He had a number of accomplishments over his career including writing a manual of practical chemistry, discovered a large number of new organic compounds, as well as liquefying what was thought to be a permanent solid. His largest discovery, and what I will be discussing in this paper is his advancements in the world of electrochemistry He was at the forefront of producing electric currents from a magnetic field, invented the first electric motor, was able to demonstrate how electricity and chemical bonding connect, amongst and array of other accomplishments. Mr. Michael Faradaywas born on September 22nd, 1791 in Newington Butts, Surrey (New London) England. He was a child of James Faraday, a blacksmith from Yorkshire and Margaret Hastwell, who worked around the house. He had three siblings (another born after him) and was born a few months after they had moved to Newington Butts. His family was struggling when he was younger due to his father s poor health condition but they stayed close together and attended church; this gave them a sense of community and support behind them. Michael was able to attend a day school where he had learned how to read, write, count, and do simple math. He did this until he was 13 and then had to find work so he could help his family s financial issues. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Various Trade Measures Affecting Exporters and Importers The various trade measures affected exporters and importers. The most common type of trade restriction or intervention measure is the tariff. There are 3 types of tariffs ad valorem, specific and compound tariffs. However, there is the other most important form of trade restriction or intervention non tariffs such as quotas, embargoes and sanctions, voluntary export restraints, buy local legislation, export subsidies, anti dumping and countervailing duties safety measures and administrative and technical regulations. CONTENT Tariff is a scheduled of duties which state imposes on goods imported or exported. Duty in this case refers to the quantity of money payable to the resident customs experts when a delivery of goods enters or leaves a country. The duty applicable in the case of tariffs (and thus the actual revenue accruing) can be worked out of three ways. пѓ An ad volorem (meaning in amount to the value ) rate of duty is a fixed percentage of the customs value of a traded item. пѓ Specific rate of duty is a fixed monetary amount per unit of the traded item. пѓ Compound rate of duty involves both an ad valorem and a specific rate of duty being applied to the same product. Government impose tariffs for the following reasons: пѓ Protection of local industry: import tariffs have the outcome of raising the value of imported products comparative to similar goods produced in the local market. This places foreign producers at a competitive disadvantage when selling in the resident ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Vanishing Voices Summary In the article Vanishing Voices by Russ Rymer, given by college board, it describes the effects of languages that are going extinct. A debate has arisen concerning the want to place restrictions on a form of speech most people are unaware of, encryption. One of the largest debates has recently come to light, as the animosity between the The Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) and the major technology companies regarding encryption reaches new heights. Since the Dotcom boom in the year 2000 technology has integrated itself into our everyday lives, we use it for baking, shopping, listening to music, entertainment, text messaging, facetime, and mapping our way in a new place, to name a few. The electronics that we use everyday contain all of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For many, the idea that government could could have access to all of an individual s personal information by manipulation of ciphertext is a violation of free speech. The applicable part of the First Amendment here prohibits the making of any law, abridging the freedom of speech (The First Amendment). There are an abundance of ways to communicate, we can write words, we can talk, we can take photographs, we can draw pictures. The Northwest Public Radio (NPR) published the article, Apple s First Amendment Argument it states that, during the 1990 s. There was a confrontation in court on whether code, or encryption, is a form of speech . A student at University of California by the name of Daniel Bernstein, created an encryption software called Snuffle. He attempted to put it on the Internet, the government made an effort to stop him, using laws that were meant for the restrictions of firearms and ammunitions. Eric Goldman is a professor at Santa Clara University School of Law argued in the NPR article, In Fighting FBI, Apple Says Free Speech Rights Mean No Forced Coding that Daniel Bernstein s code was a form of speech and therefore protected by the Constitution . Goldman was saying I believe that privacy is important and I m going to use this software as a platform to protect this right . The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals acknowledged that software is a form of speech and has been treated as such ever since. Therefore if software code is speech, Apple claims the First Amendment also means the government cannot force Apple to comply with its cause. The FBI wants Apple to write software code to help it break into the iPhone. The opposing side of this argument is lead by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The government is concerned that technology s security will prevent them from maximizing the safety of the U.S. citizens. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Silgrim In Dante s Inferno In literature, as well as in history, there is often a single individual stranded and in need of a helping hand. This assistance usually comes in various forms, and depends on the context it is needed for. The support typically guides the individual away from imminent danger, and towards a second chance or even ultimate salvation. In the first Canto of The Inferno, Dante the pilgrim, the main character of The Divine Comedy, goes astray from what his culture and tradition consider the straight road and only by recalling his cultural and personal past he is able to get back on the road towards redemption. Dante comprehensively acknowledges that he has lived a life of sin, when he decided to record his story. Dante becomes frightened by the animals and loses all hope of climbing the mountain. Dante then returns to the dark forest, where he notices a figure. Dante then calls out to the presence, unaware of whether it is man or spirit. The figure then proceeds to identify himself as the shade of Virgil, who is known to be the greatest poet of ancient Rome. Dante is astonished and delighted, referring to Virgil as his master. The first Canto states, he must go another way who would escape this wilderness... you follow me and I will be your guide and lead you forth through an eternal place. Virgil quickly assumes the role of Dante s spiritual and literal guide. While Virgil is an admirable character, and someone Dante the poet looks up to, he is still a pagan and cannot guide Dante past hell, where he is confined. In order to travel with the light of heaven, Dante must expedition through the darkness of hell, where he will see first hand the consequences of sinning. Lattice systems are organized to promote ingenuity and performance without hierarchy of authority (Grant, 2010, p. 412). Gore s intent was to create an environment with self managed associates pursuing personal commitments and working together to achieve diverse innovations (p. 412). The success of W.L. Gore Associates exercising a lattice system structure has been admirable but this system has adverse effects including confusion of how an associate is paid for his contributions. Relevant Factual Information about the Problem or Decision the Organization Faced Gore s belief and implementation of a lattice system was successful in his vision for creativity and innovation but the structure presented a lack of clarity in regards to the amount of compensation given to employees relating to their specific qualifications, expertise and performance. Explanation of Relevant Concepts, Theories and Application Derived from Course Materials Lattice systems grant several advantages for an organization looking to prosper from diversified talent. However, it creates complicated parameters on how an employee should be compensated when a framework is not present for guidance. Mayhem (2012) presented Gore s acknowledgement of the complexity when he stated it s unrealistic for people to set their own salaries (para 3). Gore s alternative was to compensate based on annual peer reviews. Although companies should consider peer reviews during an employee evaluation, the associates should not be in control of the compensation of others. If a company uses this approach it can cause skewed evaluations with various ratings due to personal differences. Vinson (1996) highlighted this point by bringing up a concern with conflicted opinions and asking the question, who decides who is right? (para. 11). In today s world the simple word of encyclopedia doesn t elicit any strong feelings or produce an order for censoring by the government, correct? However, when it was first published in 1751 the Encyclopedia did just that. It was a radical multi volume body of work that provoked a range of emotions to include being described by some as enlightenment and by others as threatening. This revolutionary and voluminous text was written and edited by Denis Diderotand numerous other collaborators over many years. With this work, these individuals were challenging the status quo of the state and the Church during that time period. Amid so much controversy and continued opposition, Diderot wrote an article in 1755 aptly named Encyclopedia to expand upon the goals of the enormous project. Its objective best explained by Diderot as, All things must be examined, debated, investigated without exception and without regard for anyone s feelings. • 14. Voltaire s Portrait Of Religious Figures In Candide Prompt: Discuss Voltaire s portrait of religious figures in Candide. Voltaire made heavy connections to religion throughout the story of Candide. The story relates mostly towards Christianity because of its popularity at the time, but Voltaire also relates to Judaism and Islam. Voltaire focused on making a mockery of each religious figure in the story. Voltaire was a famous philosopher that was strongly against an organized religion. A quote from Candide shows Voltaire curiosity of life in general. The quote states, But for what purpose was the earth formed? He believed in a more open religion rather than a set religion in which you had to strongly abide by. In Candide, the main character comes across many different religious figures in which are depicted as corrupt. This includes the Inquisitor, the Jesuit Baron and the Protestant minister. Voltaire depicts each of these religious figures as self righteous and morally corrupt. Although, Voltaire does make an exception with the Anabaptist. As a part of the sports medicine team it is crucial to be able to treat these injuries effectively and ultimately have the athlete returning to play as soon as possible. Injuries to the lower extremities are the most common in soccer. These injuries may be traumatic, such as a kick to the leg or a twist to the knee, or result from overuse of a muscle, tendon, or bone (1). This information will be helpful when assessing an injury. The three steps of injury assessment are, determine the type and extent of the injury, locate signs and symptoms, and finally compare bilaterally to notice any deformities (2). Our injury assessment is aided by the popular acronym H.O.P.S. Which stands for history, observation, palpation, and special tests. History is crucial for diagnosing an injury and would usually be found out by asking questions such as, what happened? , Has it happened before? . Asking this can locate any repetitive motions or actions that have been causing this injury. Observation is looking for signs, which are observable deformities such as a rash, swelling, or dislocation. Next is palpation, which is touching to look for pain or unusual textures on the skin. Finally, special tests, these are used to rule in/rule out injuries based on specific joint tests. • 20. The Historical Context Of Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus Tiffany Stelle English Prof Barrett Graves 8 April 2015 Tamora: Gender Constructs in Titus Andronicus In Shakespeare s plays it is important to understand the historical context of women in the Elizabethan Age and their role. The Shakespearean era consisted of a misogynistic and patriarchal society which contrasted with Queen Elizabeth being the head of the state. Even though the most important person in England was a woman, the common woman was still very limited in her power and in her independence. Women in this era were dependent on men socially, economically and sexually. Married women were not allowed to be in the public without their husbands, they were bound to the domestic area. Women in general were believed to be less rational than men and always needed male protection and guidance. As they were thought to be incapable of caring for themselves, it was the men s duty to control their sexuality; the father had to guarantee that his daughter marries as a virgin and the husband had to control his wife so she would only bear his children. Economically women were dependent on men because they were not allowed to have their own business or be involved in trade. They were seen as objects of bartering that men traded with and treated as if they were property. Women were believed to be passive objects, this idea of male dominance above women is represented in theology and philosophy and even supported by medical science: The fact that female sex organs were inside was ... The divergent views have drawn different interpretations of the intended meaning and the context of its existence. Many scholars believe that The Parson s Tale was Chaucer s final work. Some people feel Chaucer s Retraction was the final one in the collection, while others doubt that Chaucer was the real author of the repudiation. This dilemma is implored by the fact the retraction completely disowns the earlier versions of Chaucer s works. Those who agree that Chaucer s Retraction is the actual work of Geoffrey Chaucer give several reasons why he disowned his work. They explain what he sought to achieve and how the retraction relates to The Parson s Tale and the whole framework of The Canterbury Tales . The fact that Chaucer s main reason of retracting his tales in The Canterbury Tales is to avoid accusations arising from writing some of the tales is no secret. • 33. Spotlight Movie Essay The movie Spotlight is about a group of journalist who work at the Boston Globe. The film follows the journalist as they investigate allegations against John Geoghan, a priest accused of molesting over 80 boys. During their investigation, the team of writers discover that there are over 80 more priests in Boston who have molested children. The journalists are faced with opposition from the district attorney s office, various victims, and also local newspapers; who they are competing with to tell the story first. The Globe ends up publishing a story about the hypocrisy within the catholic church, exposing many other organizations who protected the illegal activity within the Archdiocese. There is a scene in the film where Mike, one of the journalist covering the case, returns to The Boston Globe office to tell his colleagues about public letters he found. The letters, from the Archdiocese addressed to John Geoghan, describe the crimes Geoghan committed. Instead of publishing the story and letters immediately, Mike s boss, Robby, wants him to wait. This prompts arguably, the best monologue of the film. Mike says This is not just Boston. This is the whole country, the whole world. They knew and they let it happen! Dictionary definition (1) Personality В– the sum of all the behavioral and mental characteristics by means of which an individual is recognised as being unique. What is meant by personality? It is the inner quality of a person, the sum of their life experiences, the way the environment affects a persons outlook and a conscious choice. Research into Eysencks dimensions comes in the form of questionnaires which merely ask people details about themselves, hobbies and preferences which can then be scored objectively. Therefore they share some similarities with the measurement techniques of other psychologists. Eysenck presented large samples of people with questions about themselves, he then factor analysed their responses to find certain personality attributes which are found together. For example, a sociable person tends to be talkative, impulsive and lively these all arise from an underlying personality trait. For the presentation, Katie produced a shortened version of Eysencks Personality Inventory (EPI), which she explained to the class. (See attached questionnaire) There are a numerous questions each relating to the N and E score. Your response to each question dictates whether you get a mark or not. There are no right or wrong answers as the questionnaires are purely subjective. One of the biggest problems with personality measurement is that we have to assume that people are being honest when they answer the questions about themselves. This relates back to sport and physical activity because although each individual player may live in different locations than another, when they come together for this one sport and act as a team, they share the same values of the game. They also share the same type of identity when playing on the same team or involved in the same physical activity as another individual. John R. Wooden was an American basketballplayer coach and teacher. He taught philosophy which highly influenced his coaching style. Wooden created the Pyramid of Success, which took him seventeen years to fully construct. The pyramid works as building blocks, each row acts as a foundation for the one above it. • 46. The Pros And Cons Of Restraint Restraints limit a patient s movement. This brings up many ethical debates and issues. There are certain guidelines that should be followed when it comes to using restraints. It is important to know the different kinds of restraints, how to apply a physical restraint properly and how to administer a chemical restraint safely. It is important to consider alternatives as the use of restraints can present risk and negative outcomes. History of Restraints Restraints were incorporated into health care many decades ago. In the late 1970s, more than 25% of U.S residents in long term care facilities were restrained compared to a current average of 5% (Taylor, Lillis, Lynn, 2015, p. 707). Since 1987, the federal government and accrediting agencies have worked to reduce or eliminate the use of restraints (Taylor et al. 2015, p. 708). Also according to Taylor, Lillis, and Lynn (2015) a Safety Alert from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1995 informed nurses and other members of the health care team the risks of using side rails, especially when all four side rails are up. Different Types of Restraints There are three categories of restraints. The three categories are physical, chemical, and seclusion. According to Springer (2015), a physical restraint is a device that keeps the patient from moving freely or from the patient harming themselves or other people nearby. Chemical restraints are drugs that are administered that do the same thing a physical restraint does. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is an acceptable value of alpha, making the test reliable (Kline, 2005). The culture of set societal rules and conventions urges Catherine to be with Edgar, compelling her to be the greatest woman of the neighbourhood due to them being relatively firm in their gentry s status. This suggests the importance of her social status against the nature of her love for Heathcliff stating, we would be beggars , through employing the word beggars the reader crafts the idea of her belief that she won t survive without her status. Catherine admits It would degrade me to marry Heathcliff now; so he shall never know how I love him Thus implying a swelling sense of her vanity and pride; enough to enjoy the position she gains from being married to Edgar despite her admiration for Heathcliff, being more than (herself) than (she is) and ... • 56. Compare And Contrast Hemingway And Faulkner s Writing Style Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner were two of the most influential writers of the twentieth century. While they lived during the same period, their writing styles differed drastically. This can be seen in texts such as Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants and A Clean, Well Lighted Place, and Faulkner s Barn Burning . Hemingway s style puts little focus on specific characterdetails, which makes his stories seem like they could be about any person, including the reader, while Faulkner s style puts a lot of focus on specific character details, which makes every detail and every character seem important to the reader. Both authors have styles indirect to their points, which forces the readers to figure out information on their own and leaves the purposes of texts more open to interpretation. The writing styles of Hemingway and Faulkner differ in numerous ways, the most prominent of which being their narrative focus. With Hemingway writing short, simple sentences, there was little discussion of the specific traits of each of characters in his stories. In both Hills Like White Elephants and A Clean, Well Lighted Place, the main characters are almost all unnamed. They lack specific ages, races, or nationalities. The only details included about the characters are those that are directly involved with the plot, such as in A Clean, Well Lighted Place, where the waiters are labeled as being young and old . By not having any certain traits tied to the main characters, Hemingway allows for those characters to be anyone. When the reader reads about a situation happening to a person, they have an easier time empathizing with them because the character can be more like them. This also allows for characters to represent concepts the reader can understand, either by living them out on a daily basis or seeing them lived out through other people. Unlike Hemingway s few details about characters, Faulkner goes into depth about all the characters in his stories, including his short story Barn Burning . At one point, the main character said this when describing his father, There was something about his wolflike independence and even courage when the advantage was at least neutral which impressed strangers, as ...
