This document summarizes a book that reports experimental results on flow and heat transfer in horizontal rectangular microchannels. This study develops a theoretical model of in-tube condensation in the presence of air using a two-fluid model. The model accounts for the inhibiting effect of air on heat and mass transfer at the interface as well as other effects like entrainment. Governing equations are arranged into a system of coupled differential equations and numerically integrated using a FORTRAN code. The model is tested against three experimental databases and shows reasonably good agreement, with deviations between predicted and measured values of steam flow rate, bulk temperature, and heat transfer coefficient generally within expected ranges for two-phase flow correlations.

This computational fluid dynamics study examines PEM fuel cell performance under isothermal and non-uniform temperature boundary conditions. heat transfer augmentation occurs by increasing of the inner Dean Number, inner tube diameter, curvature
ratio and by the reduction of the pitch of heat exchanger coil. By increasing the radius of coils, the
secondary flow effects due to centrifugal forces diminishes and flow of fluid through the coils tends to flow
in a straight path and as a result, the friction coefficient decreases consequently.

The water temperature was varied from 30-90°C for adiabatic tests and was 30°C with a heat flux of 147 kW/m2 for non-adiabatic tests of the 0.635 mm channel. The friction factors obtained were generally in agreement with conventional developing flow theory and were not significantly affected by temperature. However, pressure drop decreased with increasing inlet temperature.

This study develops a theoretical model of in-tube condensation in the presence of air using a two-fluid model. The model accounts for the inhibiting effect of air on heat and mass transfer at the interface as well as other effects like entrainment. Governing equations are arranged into a system of coupled differential equations and numerically integrated using a FORTRAN code. The model is tested against three experimental databases and shows reasonably good agreement, with deviations between predicted and measured values of steam flow rate, bulk temperature, and heat transfer coefficient generally within expected ranges for two-phase flow correlations.

This computational fluid dynamics study examines PEM fuel cell performance under isothermal and non-uniform temperature boundary conditions. The study finds that implementing a non-uniform temperature profile along the cathode channel, as calculated from a Mollier h-u chart, results in close to 100% relative humidity without external humidification and improves fuel cell performance. The model polarization curve and relative humidity distribution agree well with experimental results. Different current collector materials and membrane thickness influence temperature and relative humidity distributions through their effects on thermal conductivity and water transport.

important role in various industrial applications. This paper investigate numerically on the influence of
different parameters such as coil radius, coil pitch and diameter of tube on the hydrodynamic and
heat transfer characteristics of helical double tube heat exchangers using the CFD software which is
based on the principles of heat transfer, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. The results indicated that
heat transfer augmentation occurs by increasing of the inner Dean Number, inner tube diameter, curvature
ratio and by the reduction of the pitch of heat exchanger coil. By increasing the radius of coils, the
secondary flow effects due to centrifugal forces diminishes and flow of fluid through the coils tends to flow
in a straight path and as a result, the friction coefficient decreases consequently.

Experiments were conducted to measure the pressure drop and friction factor of water flowing through three copper microchannels of varying widths (0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.71 mm) but constant depth (0.39 mm) and length (62 mm). The water temperature was varied from 30-90°C for adiabatic tests and was 30°C with a heat flux of 147 kW/m2 for non-adiabatic tests of the 0.635 mm channel. The friction factors obtained were generally in agreement with conventional developing flow theory and were not significantly affected by temperature. However, pressure drop decreased with increasing inlet temperature.

This document presents a numerical investigation of heat transfer characteristics of a double pipe heat exchanger using alumina-water nanofluid. The study examines the effects of nanoparticle concentration and volume flow rate on heat transfer coefficient, Nusselt number, pressure drop, and friction factor. It was found that adding nanoparticles significantly improved the thermal performance of the heat exchanger. The average heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number of the base fluid increased by 26% and 12.5% respectively with a 4% nanoparticle volume concentration. Nanoparticle addition also enhanced pressure drop by around 10.11%. Heat exchanger effectiveness could be improved by approximately 16% using a 4% alumina nanoparticle concentration in the base fluid.

A three-dimensional transient numerical study of a constant property Newtonian fluid in curved pipe under laminar flow conditions is presented for a uniform wall temperature boundary condition. Numerical solutions were obtained using the control volume method described by Patankar for the range of. The working fluid was water. The transient flow pattern and the temperature distribution on the tube section were derived for different values of the Reynolds number. Graphical results for velocity and temperature are presented and analyzed. Results have shown that the maximum velocity in center of velocity profile increase with increasing of Reynolds number. In curved pipes, time averaged results exhibited Dean circulation and a strong velocity and temperature stratification in the radial direction. Flow and heat transfer were strongly asymmetric, with higher values near the outer pipe bend.

Abstract A nanofluid is a mixture of nano sized particles of size up to 100 nm and a base fluid. Typical nanoparticles are made of metals, oxides or carbides, while base fluids may be water, ethylene glycol or oil. The effect of nanofluid to enhance the heat transfer rate in various heat exchangers is experimentally evaluated recently. The heat transfer enhancement using nanofluid mainly depends on type of nanoparticles, size of nanoparticles and concentration of nanoparticles in base fluid. In the present paper, an experimental investigation is carried out to determine the effect of various concentration of Al2O3 nano-dispersion mixed in water as base fluid on heat transfer characteristics of double pipe heat exchanger for parallel flow and counter flow arrangement. The volume concentrations of Al2O3 nanofluid prepared are 0.001 % to 0.01 %. The conclusion derived for the study is that overall heat transfer coefficient increases with increase in volume concentration of Al2O3 nano-dispersion compared to water up to volume concentration of 0.008 % and then decreases. thermal analysis of shell-and-tubes heat exchangers having water as cold and hot fluid. Shell and
Tube heat exchangers are having special importance in boilers, oil coolers, condensers, pre-heaters.
They are also widely used in process applications as well as the refrigeration and air conditioning
industry. The robustness and medium weighted shape of Shell and Tube heat exchangers make them
well suited for high pressure operations. The project shows the best material, best boundary conditions
and parameters of materials we have to use for better heat conduction. For this we are chosen a
practical problem of counter flow shell and tube heat exchanger having water, by using the data that
come from cfd analysis. A design of sample model of shell and tube heat exchanger with waved baffles
is using Pro-e and done the thermal analysis by using FLOEFD software by assigning different
materials to tubes with different diameters having different mass flow rates and comparing the result
that obtained from FLOEFD software.

This article presents a numerical investigation of heat transfer performance and pressure drop of nanofluids flowing under laminar flow conditions. Various nanoparticles including Al2O3, CuO, carbon nanotube and titanate nanotube dispersed in water and ethylene glycol/water were simulated. A single-phase model was used to predict the effects of parameters such as particle concentration, diameter, Brownian motion, Reynolds number, nanoparticle type and base fluid on heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. The results indicated that particle concentration, Brownian motion and aspect ratio increased heat transfer, while particle diameter decreased it. The study provides considerations for choosing appropriate nanofluids for applications.

In this paper, the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of the distilled water and the copper oxide-distilled water based nanofluid flowing in a horizontal circular pipe under constant heat flux condition are studied. Copper oxide nanoparticles of 40nm size are dispersed in distilled water using sodium dodecyl sulphate as surfactant and sonicated the nanofluid for three hour. Both surfactant and sonication increases the stability of the nanofluid. The nanofluids are made in three different concentration i.e. 0.1 Vol. %, 0.25 Vol. % and 0.50 Vol. %. The thermal conductivity is measured by KD2 PRO, density with pycnometer, viscosity with Brookfield LVDV-III rheometer. The results show that the thermal conductivity increases with both temperature and concentration. The viscosity and density increases with concentration but decreases with temperature. The specific heat is calculated by model and it decreases with concentration. The experimental local Nusselt number of distilled water is compared with local Nusselt number obtained by the well known shah equation for laminar flow under constant heat flux condition for validation of the experimental set up. The relative error is 4.48 % for the Reynolds number 750.9. The heat transfer coefficient increases with increase in both flow rate and concentration. It increases from 14.33 % to 46.1 % when the concentration is increased from 0.1 Vol. % to 0.5 Vol. % at 20 LPH flow rate. Friction factor decreases with increase in flow rate. It decreases 66.54 % when the flow rate increases from 10 LPH to 30 LPH for 0.1 Vol. %.

To examine and investigate the impact of nanofluid on heat exchanger performance, including the total heat transfer, the effect of friction factor, the average Nusselt number, and the thermal efficiency, the output heat transfers of a shell and tube heat exchanger using ZnO nanoparticles suspended in water has been conducted numerically. The governing equations were solved using finite volume techniques and CFD simulations with ANSYS/FLUENT Solver 2021. The nanoparticles volume fractions adopted are 0.2% and 0.35% that used in numerical computations under 200 to 1400 Reynolds numbers range. The increasing of temperature is approximately 13% from the bottom to the top of heat exchanger, while the maximum enhancement of Nusselt number is about 10%, 19% for volume fractions 0.2% and 0.35% respectively. The elevated values of the friction factor at the volumetric ratios of 0.2% and 0.35% are 0.25% and 0.47% respectively. The findings demonstrate that the performance efficiency of shell and tube heat exchanger is enhanced due to the increase in Nusselt number.

In recent years, numerous styles were introduced for heat exchangers that apply to completely different applications sadly, their heat transfer co efficient wasnt reliable at different operational conditions. the standard of the heat changed rate wasnt optimized and there have been many deficiencies and errors in styles. The heat transfer of the copper material is enhanced in comparison with other material unfortunately thermal resistance is reduced with an increase in pressure drop thus enhancing the heat transfer on the heat exchanger. Helical architecture is often designed with a clear motive of compact size and also address heat transfer co efficient and other ancillary attributes efficiently and effectively. So the better material is suggested for an industrial heat exchanger according to the applications is Copper with the basis of simulation results. The geometry and different dimension parameter of the helical coil show that the proposed study in different material properties and different mass flow rates to heat transfer are maximum in different parameter helical coil heat exchangers. Finally, the heat transfer increase for the copper material compared to another material but with the increase in pressure drop the corresponding thermal resistance decreases which allow the improved heat transfer rate and the rate increases from Aluminum to Bronze to Copper. With the drop in temperature, the thermal resistance is reduced which enhances the heat transfer rate. The simulation results show that the copper has a high heat transfer coefficient than Aluminum and Bronze while operating in identical conditions. Due to the extensive use of helical coils in various applications, knowledge about the flow patterns and heat transfer characteristics are important. Mixed Convection of Variable Properties Al2O3-EG-Water Nanofluid in a Two-Dim...
In this paper, mixed convection of Al2O3-EG-Water nanofluid in a square lid-driven enclosure is investigated numerically. The focus of this study is on the effects of variable thermophysical properties of the nanofluid on the heat transfer characteristics. The top moving and the bottom stationary horizontal walls are insulated, while the vertical walls are kept at different constant temperatures. The study is carried out for Richardson numbers of 0.01–1000, the solid volume fractions of 0–0.05 and the Grashof number of 104. The transport equations are solved numerically with a finite volume approach using the SIMPLER algorithm. The results show that the Nusselt number is mainly affected by the viscosity, density and conductivity variations. For low Richardson numbers, although viscosity increases by increasing the nanoparticles volume fraction, due to high intensity convection of enhanced conductivity nanofluid, the average Nusselt number increases for both constant and variable cases. However, for high Richardson numbers, as the volume fraction of nanoparticles increases heat transfer enhancement occurs for the constant properties cases but deterioration in heat transfer occurs for the variable properties cases. The distinction is due to underestimation of viscosity of the nanofluid by the constant viscosity model in the constant properties cases and states important effects of temperature dependency of thermophysical properties, in particular the viscosity distribution in the domain.

A Review on Enhancement of Heat Transfer Rate by Various Passive Methods
This document reviews various passive methods that have been used to enhance heat transfer rates in heat exchangers. It summarizes 15 research papers that studied techniques like using corrugated tubes, twisted tapes, nanofluids, and ribbed surfaces to increase heat transfer surface area and turbulence. Improving the Cooling Performance of Automobile Radiator with TiO2/Water Nano...
In this paper, forced convective heat transfer in a water based nanofluid has experimentally beencompared to that of pure water in an automobile radiator. Five different concentrations of nanofluids inthe range of 0.1-1 vol.% have been prepared by the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles into the water. The test liquid flows through the radiator consisted of 34 vertical tubes with elliptical cross section and airmakes a cross flow inside the tube bank with constant speed. Liquid flow rate has been changed in therange of 90-120 l/min to have the fully turbulent regime. Results demonstrate that increasing the fluid circulating rate canimprove the heat transfer performance. Meanwhile, application of nanofluid with low concentrations can enhance heat transfer efficiency up to 45% in comparison with pure water.

This document summarizes research on using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to analyze heat transfer and friction factors for turbulent flow of titanium dioxide, iron oxide, and silicon dioxide nanofluid in semi-circle corrugated channels. The simulations were conducted at Reynolds numbers of 10,000-30,000, nanoparticle volume fractions of 0-6%, and constant heat flux conditions. Results showed that the Nusselt number, a measure of heat transfer, increased with higher nanoparticle volume fraction and Reynolds number. Maximum Nusselt number enhancement of 2.07 was found at a Reynolds number of 30,000 and volume fraction of 6%.

Alternative energies, e.g. biomassa, can be utilized using combustion processes in a stove. Nevertheless, traditional stoves that are available in the market or have been used by the community for years are not effective and efficient. One thing that may affect their efficiency and effectiveness is a distance between the combustion chamber and air hole. Therefore, this research investigates experimentally the effect of the distance.The tested stoves had identical combustion room and air hole diameters, but the distance between the combustion chamber and air hole was varied 10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm, 40 cm. The combustion chamber diameter was 13 cm and the top diameter of the stove was 19 cm. The fuel employed was coconut shell with various size of 2-4 cm and 5-10 cm. One traditional stove was also tested as a comparison. The test were conducted by heating the water in a 18 cm diameter pan from the ambient temperature to the boiling temperature (1000C). Investigated parameters showing the stove performance were boiling time, FCR, heat input, heat output, heat losses and efficiency.The results show that the fastest boiling time (472 s) and the highest FCR (0,9407 Kg/h) were resulted in the stove with the air hole distance of 40 cm and coconut shell size of 5-10 cm. In this stove, the highest heat input, heat output, heat losses occurred too. On the other hand, the highest efficiency (15,62 %) was achieved in the stove with the air hole distance of 10 cm.

The purpose of this study is to investigate of sound absorption of coconut filter fiber composites. The research material made with coconut filter fiber as reinforcement and matrix resin unsaturated polyester (UPRs) type Yukalac BQTN 157 with 1% hardener types MEKPO (Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide) and fiber treatment by 0,5% KMnO4. Production methods is poltrusion and the variations of fiber volume fraction are 20, 25 and 30% and fiber length are 5, 10 and 15 mm. Testing of sound absorption frequency are 250, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz. The results of research show that the highest value of sound absorption coefficient is on the composites with composition of 10 mm fiber length and 30% fiber volume fraction, that is 0.550828. The values are included in the class “Sound Absorption Coefficient Class D (Extremely absorbing)” with the range 0.40 – 0.60 based on ISO standard 11654:1997.

Due to population growth, industry advance and rapid development, fresh and comfortable air may be difficult to get. Conditioning the air to get comfort environment may be a basic demand for people, but the prices of the device and its operation for this purpose are expensive. This research tries to solve this problem but it is just only to know the capability of the heat exchanger to transfer/ absorb heat and is not to cool the room to be below the ambient temperature. The working fluid used was clean water and the heat exchangers employed were parallel and serpentine which were made of copper pipes with a diameter of 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch (for the header). The volumetric flow rates used were 300 ml/minutes, 400 ml/minutes and 500 ml/minutes. While the heat that should be absorbed by the water from the room is 50 W, 100 W and 150 W. The results show that the effect of volumetric flow rate on heat exchanger performance and room temperature is insignificant. From the pressure drop results, the parallel pipe heat exchanger has lower pressure drops while the serpentine has higher pressure drops.

With traditional fish drying process, most possible can cause an unhealthy working posture , such as a squatting action. As a consequence , worker will suffer a musculoskeletal disorders because of not ergonomic tools and bad working posture. Without ergonomics working procedures was found that the average of musculoskeletal complaints after working is 52.25 ± 1.03. To solve this ccomplaints, a drying chamber based ergonomics design was built in order to reduce musculoskeletal disorders. Dimensions of the drying chamber were based on anthropometric data of fish craftsmen and the material of drying chamber was by the participatory method. Test was performed on 20 samples and the result showed that the mean rate of musculoskeletal complaints after working is 38.30 ± 1.30. The ergonomic based design for drying camber application can reduce the musculoskeletal complaints up to 26.7%.

Heat transfer coefficient in microchannels
This article compares two methods for calculating local flow boiling heat transfer coefficients in microchannels: using a linear pressure gradient assumption and direct pressure gradient measurement. An experiment was conducted for boiling water in three single microchannels of varying widths and depths. The local heat transfer coefficients determined by the two methods were found to be significantly different at high heat fluxes. The linear pressure distribution assumption may only be used with caution when the heat flux is below a certain threshold value that depends on the channel size.

Effect of boiling in the upatream loop on instability of flow boiling in a mi...
The document discusses an experiment that measured pressure fluctuations and flow reversals during flow boiling in a single microchannel. Four pressure sensors were inserted into the copper channel to measure pressure fluctuations. Tests were conducted with and without boiling occurring in the upstream loop before the test section. Results showed that pressure fluctuations and flow reversals were caused by bubble activity inside the channel. Boiling in the upstream loop was found to cause unstable flow. Flow reversal could occur when bubbles generated a temporary pressure higher than the inlet pressure. The upstream boiling affected the magnitude and duration of pressure fluctuations and flow reversals.

This paper describes a speed control device for generating electrical energy on an electricity network based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) used for wind power conversion systems. At first, a double-fed induction generator model was constructed. A control law is formulated to govern the flow of energy between the stator of a DFIG and the energy network using three types of controllers: proportional integral (PI), sliding mode controller (SMC) and second order sliding mode controller (SOSMC). Their different results in terms of power reference tracking, reaction to unexpected speed fluctuations, sensitivity to perturbations, and resilience against machine parameter alterations are compared. MATLAB/Simulink was used to conduct the simulations for the preceding study. Multiple simulations have shown very satisfying results, and the investigations demonstrate the efficacy and power-enhancing capabilities of the suggested control system.

As digital technology becomes more deeply embedded in power systems, protecting the communication
networks of Smart Grids (SG) has emerged as a critical concern. Distributed Network Protocol 3 (DNP3)
represents a multi-tiered application layer protocol extensively utilized in Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition (SCADA)-based smart grids to facilitate real-time data gathering and control functionalities.
Robust Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are necessary for early threat detection and mitigation because
of the interconnection of these networks, which makes them vulnerable to a variety of cyberattacks. To
solve this issue, this paper develops a hybrid Deep Learning (DL) model specifically designed for intrusion
detection in smart grids. The proposed approach is a combination of the Convolutional Neural Network
(CNN) and the Long-Short-Term Memory algorithms (LSTM). We employed a recent intrusion detection
dataset (DNP3), which focuses on unauthorized commands and Denial of Service (DoS) cyberattacks, to
train and test our model. The results of our experiments show that our CNN-LSTM method is much better
at finding smart grid intrusions than other deep learning algorithms used for classification. In addition,
our proposed approach improves accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, achieving a high detection
accuracy rate of 99.50%.

Mirmanto Mirmanto FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER IN HORIZONTAL RECTANGULAR MICROCHANNELS FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER IN HORIZONTAL RECTANGULAR MICROCHANNELS The book reports a part of results of a long term experimental project devoted to investigating single-phase flow pressure drop and heat transfer, flow boiling pressure drop and heat transfer, flow boiling instability and flow visualization of de-ionized water flow in microchannels. However, the main focus in this book is to present experimental results for single-phase flow and heat transfer characteristics in rectangular microchannels.The authors is encouraged to write this book because of noticed discrepancies between published results and conventional theory. The single-phase fluid flow results showed that no deviation of friction factors was found from the three different hydraulic diameters. The effect of fluid temperature on friction factor was insignificant and the friction factors themselves were in reasonable agreement with the developing flow theory. The single-phase heat transfer results demonstrated that smaller test sections result in higher heat transfer coefficients. However, for heat transfer trends presented in the form of Nusselt number versus Reynolds number, the effect of hydraulic diameter was insignificant.
