2. The Early Native American Tribes
The early Native American tribes had a huge influence on the United States of
America. They saved the early European settlers from death and starvation by
teaching them their knowledge of the New World. One of these influential tribes
were the Cherokee Indians. The Cherokee Indians had a fascinating culture and
language that formed an important part of American history.
The Cherokee Indians were large in numbers when the first contact was made with
them. At the time of European contact, the Cherokees numbered about twenty two
thousand and controlled more than forty square miles of land (Hoxie 105). Twenty
two thousand is a lot of people for the 17th century. The Cherokee have grown even
larger in size since then. In the 1990 census, 308,132 people identified themselves as
Cherokees (Hoxie 105). In a few centuries, they grew by almost three hundred
thousand people. Many of the Cherokee are currently living in North Carolina and
Oklahoma. In these places they have created many strong businesses. Most of the
casinos in the United States are owned by Indian families. Their size helped them in
many early wars.
The Indians were at peace with many of the early settlers, but in some cases, there
was conflict. The settlers needed the Indians help when they first arrived to the New
World. The Indians were masters at farming, hunting, and making crafts. Their crops
included corn, beans, squash, pumpkins, sunflowers, and tobacco (Waldman 1). They
taught the Europeans how to

4. World War Z Change
A basic tenet in both fiction and in life is that change is inevitable, and for better or
worse, it s going to happen. In the novel World War Z, lots of things are changing:
society is on the verge of collapse, social hierarchy and status quo are thrown on their
heads, and geopolitical relations devolve drastically, but valiantly manage to save the
remaining thread of humanity. Evident changes and progressions in theme are to be
expected in a novel, but a trickier task is to appropriate this changeand apply its
meaning to specific situations in our everyday lives. The transition from high school
to being a freshman in college is one such scenario. There are certain aspects of
human nature thematically explored in World War Z that do... Show more content on

In World War Z, education as a theme is almost exclusively based in an unfortunate
trial and error. From the progression of zombie fighting techniques revolutionized
from the failure at Yonkers to the triumph at Hope, to adoption of the Redeker
Plan, it was impossible not to notice that experimentation began to begat success.
Humanity began to learn from their past mistakes, and apply hard earned
knowledge in practical ways to limit loss of resources and life, which really is the
essence of education. This being my freshman year at West Virginia University,
there are no shortage of things that offer this sort of practical life experience, based
in a trial and error of sorts. As a pharmacy undergrad, I realize the importance of
broadening intellectual horizons, deepening my knowledge of chemistry and
biology, because peoples well being depends on it. Much like individual efforts in
the Zombie War, my effort is necessary to provide a practical service to others, and

5. Human Nature And Science Corrupts Human Beings
Jean Jacques Rousseau believed that technology, knowledge and science corrupts
human beings, and that human nature is good. The more knowledge a person has,
the more greed they have or the more money a person has they believe they are
better than another person. Some also believe the more money they have, the more
problems they will have in their life. There is a saying that goes it s better to be
poor and happy than being rich and miserable. I believe that the experiences that one
is to have matter the most in the world, I rather be poor and happy than rich and
miserable. If you have all the money in the world and you are not happy with
yourself, the money does not mean anything. In the case of technology, it is
something that corrupts humanbeings. People do not think for themselves anymore,
they have become inadequate thinkers. Human beings rely on technology so much,
that it is something we have become attached to. In life, it is better to strive for a
simple life. Once a person has enough, they should try to keep the simplicity that
keeps them happy. Striving for more does not necessarily mean you will have the
happiness that you been looking for. Having just what you need, many do not depend
on material objects to bring them happiness, as in some many think that these
material items will bring happiness into their life, which is not true. Striving for
happiness in the sense of striving for more in money does not matter in the end. In
the end, we all end up
6. Johannes Brahms Analysis
Johannes Brahms is a German composer and pianist in the Romantic era. He
dedicated Intermezzo in A major, Op. 118, No. 2 to his close friend, Clara
Schumann. It was written in 1893 and it is the second piece of Sechs Klavierstucke.
It is considered one of best known creations of his set of later works, that gives off a
profound feeling of nostalgia, mystery, melancholy. An intermezzo is a character
piece which could stand on its own. In this intermezzo, the musicflows with romantic
lyricism in a serene manner. He expanded the thematic material and expressed the
identity of the piece using a strict sense of structure, form and intricate craftsmanship.
Furthermore, he uses techniques such as inversion, imitation, counterpoint, and

In Sophocles Antigone, the protagonist, Creon, serves as a great example of how
recurring themes, such as the realization and recognition of a tragic flaw (hamartia),
cause the downfall of the powerful in Greek literature. Sophocles is effective in
portraying the concept of hamartia as an essential component in Creon s downfall
and, based on Aristotle s characteristics of a tragic character, able to create a
character that can be accurately and easily identified as the significant tragic
character in the play. Despite the title of the tragedy, Creon undoubtedly provides
greater moral significance and can capture the audience s attention as the central
character. Creon s significance is clear as he is the successor to Oedipusthrone in
Thebes. His status as king makes him renowned and prosperous. Initially, Creon
restrains his respect for his subjects, however, it is clear to them he is not perfect
through his pride (hubris). His profound reversal of prosperity is displayed after he
struggles to recognize his erroneous judgment (hamartia). Finally, his compassion and
apprehension develops into an understanding of his arrogant and destructive nature
leading to his redemption. Nevertheless, Creon is left with the burden of the deaths
of his family, becoming a shell of misfortune and loneliness. Although Creon s actions
cannot be labeled as courageous, his character traits pertain greatly to that of a tragic
hero.
As ruler of Thebes, Creon s power lead to his irrational
9. Review Of Related Literature Of Starbucks

generally thought of as a sequence of activities designed to inform and convince
individuals to purchase a product, subscribe to a belief, or support a cause. All of the
various tools available to marketingmanagers for promotional activities constitute
what is known as the promotional mix. The promotional mix includes advertising,

11. Essay on The Russian Mob
The Russian Mob: Organized Crime in a Fledgling Democracy
Since the late 1980 s the Russian people have experienced one of the most drastic
transitions seen in the world to date, a transition from an attempt at communism to a
workable capitalist system. As one would expect, this transition has not been painless
and has been the impetus of many distressing problems for the Russian people. One
such problem is organized crime. This paper will explore how organized crime during
Soviet rule and the Russian Federation has created obstacles in this transition to a
functioning market economy. It will illustrate how organized crime has done this by
analyzing its transition from the USSR to the Russian Federation, the reasons behind

This expansion was aided by perestroika s opening up of market opportunities. In
Leningrad, as much as 90% of the cooperatives produced by the liberal policies of
perestroika were deeply involved with organized crime (Anderson, 1995, 352). The
extensiveness of organized crime in the USSR is quite apparent when one examines
such numbers, but the more important question is what was inherent in the USSR
that facilitated such crime and how this later affected organized crime in the Russian
Federation.
Two characteristics of the USSR were integral in the development of a powerful
organized crime syndicate. These were an excessive bureaucratic power and the
presence of illegal markets (Anderson, 1995, 347). This excessive bureaucratic
power facilitated organized crime by providing a basis for corruption, bribery,
shakedowns, and extortion (Anderson, 1995, 346). These were no small problems
either. According to the All Union Research Institute of the Soviet Interior Ministry
in 1991, about half of the income of the average government employee consisted of
bribes (Sterling, 1994, 93). However, the presence of illegal markets was even more
essential to the existence of a mafia in the USSR. Everyone is aware that illegal
markets such as alcohol during the prohibition period or drugs today elicit organized
crime, yet this association was unique in the USSR. In the USSR, every form of
economic transaction that did not involve the government

Dysfunctional Family
A dysfunctional family is a family, in which conflict, misbehavior and even abuse on
the part of individual members of the family occur continually, leading other members
to accommodate such actions. Dysfunctional families are most often a result of the
alcoholism, substance abuse, or other addictions of parents, parents untreated mental
illnesses/defects or personality disorders, or the parents emulating their own
dysfunctional parents and dysfunctional family experiences.

Criticism can be aimed at the child s looks, intelligence, capabilities, or basic value.
Some verbal abusers are very direct, while others use subtle put downs disguised as
humor. Both types are just as damaging.
Definitions of physical abuse vary widely. Many parents, at one time or another, have
felt the urge to strike their child. With physically abusive parents, however, the urge
is frequent and little effort is made to control this impulse. The Federal Child Abuse
Prevention and Treatment Act defines physical abuse as the infliction of physical
injuries such as bruises, burns, welts, cuts, bone or skull fractures; these are caused
by kicking, punching, biting, beating, knifing, strapping, paddling, etc.
Striking a child has much to do with meeting the parent s emotional needs and
nothing to do with concern for the child; parents often erroneously justify the abuse
as discipline intended to help the child. Physically abusive parents can create an
environment of terror for the child, particularly since violence is often random and
unpredictable. Abused children often feel anger. Children of abusive parents have
tremendous difficulties developing feelings of trust and safety even in their adult lives.
While parents may justify or rationalize verbal or physical abuse as discipline aimed
at somehow helping the child, there is no rationalization for sexual abuse. Sexual
abuse is the most blatant example of an adult abusing a child purely for that

To survive in the wild, plants must form defenses to protect themselves from
herbivory. The main physical defenses are thorns, used to harm the herbivore, or
predator. This harm to the animal triggers a negative response, therefore causing the
animal to avoid that plant in the future. Plants commonly eaten sometimes form a
sour or bitter taste or odor to deter herbivores. This mechanism causes herbivores to
stay away from such plants and avoid eating them. In addition, poison serves as an
effective deterrent, causing animals to stay away due to its effects. These poisons
may cause vomiting or extreme illness, and in some cases, death, which warns
herbivores to avoid such plants through experience or from warnings by other
animals. A final... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a predator of the king snakes accidentally goes in for a bite of the coral snake,
they will be surprised to find that they have attacked a venomous snake instead. In
order to catch and utilize food, both herbivores and predators have made
evolutionary advancements to increase their success and survival. Most of these
advancements were physical, as the giraffe displays. In order to reach leaves, the
giraffe advanced its neck size, attaining more food. Like the giraffe, other animals
undergo physical changes such as spiders, adapting their webs and size to better trap
insects. Through the advancement of fibers in their webs and strengthening them,
spiders adapted to their environment and can catch the insects most common in their
ecosystem. Some animals in remote regions with limited food supply have adapted
to intake large amounts of food at once and utilize it for a longer period of time than
a typical animal would. Camels do so with water, making them able to travel across
the desert for long amounts of time with limited water supply.
Plants that serve as predators also adapt, a common example being the carnivorous
plants. A carnivorous plant, such as the Venus fly Trap, can utilize both small insects
and typical plant nutrients to nourish themselves. This proves to be an advantage for
them because insects are frequent in their areas, while soil nutrients can dwindle
more. Also, certain plants advance themselves through
14. Greek Mythology Influence On Society
The heavy influence of Greek mythology persists in today s society. Common name
brand products echo the names of the gods. Popular movies and television shows
portray the myths of ancient Greece, some creating exact replications and others
adding a modern twist to the timeless stories. Books are written about the gods lives
and adventures in ancient as well as present times. These portrayals of gods and
goddesses exist to entertain people today just as they did in Greececenturies ago. With
such a large influence surrounding life today, it is important to identify the
established definition and origins of Greek mythology, as well as how it has
specifically influenced culture and literature.
When asking what mythology is you can get a bundle of stories and various

what is happening in the world above, or in Olympus, except for fragmentary
information which comes to him when mortals strike their hands upon the earth

considered one of the twelve Olympians on Mount Olympus because he never visits
but dwells in the underworld. In many stories about demigods or Greek mythology,
the heroes usually must travel to the underworld and come back to prove
themselves. For example, this theme recurs throughout the stories of The Odyssey,
Hercules, and Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. These heroes must fight their
way out or be cunning. Hades likes to collect his souls and not let anyone leave.

importance that methods be taken to appropriately measure and positively influence
children s meal intake. Research confirms that the majority of dietary customs are
established during childhood. Therefore, proper childhood dietetic assessments are a
beneficial method to improve and measure food choices of children during
lunchtime at primary schools. As stated by the authors, present evaluations of
children s dietary consumption are 24 hour recalls and meal observations .
Conversely, these implements are identified as exclusive and particularly resource

schools about their entire meal consumption throughout a day s span. In opposition
of the method, prior studies indicate it is rather challenging for young children to
correctly recall a complete day s meal ingestion. Thus, not only is the 24 hour recall

about two Americans Jonathan Edwards and Benjamin Franklin, who are hard
workers, and self sacrificing as young men. they wrote personal narratives, in which
they tell of youth happenings and of their adult attempting for moral perfection. The
reasons I chose those two people are that they spent their lives searching for
perfection. Edwards try to find perfection through God while Franklin improved
himself through his own. Both believed in a godly creator, but they differed in how
happiness was achieved, and they are two very appreciated authors nowadays, but
they never had the desire of knowing one another in their own time. Edwards and
Franklin influenced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The narrative power of sound in Pan s labyrinth
The film that I have chosen as a case study for my final paper is: Pan s labyrinth
(2006) by director Guillermo del Toro, and it is a case of real fantastic cinema. Here I
present my essay entitled The narrative power of sound in Pan s labyrinth of
Guillermo Del Toro. It will analyze the sound design , the identification of its
elements, the ways in which they are presented and their interrelations, to understand
and explain how these elements work together in conjunction with the visual image,
to support the narration of the story. Consequently, this research seeks to answer the
question: How does the sound in the film Pans Labyrinth relates to ... Show more

It is within this framework that I consider important to study the way in which sound
is built and used in audiovisual products to narrate, generate sensations and configure
worlds , real and fantastic, respect to the reality of the history of fiction (which may
not coincide with reality as the viewer knows it in his own life, but that this
understands and accepts as the reality of history that is being counting within the
audiovisual piece).
As Balsam refers , a sound can create emphasis in any scene that is, can function as a
punctuation mark , when it accentuates and strengthens the visual image.
This time we will focus on the analysis of the sound of a film that, in addition, to be
well achieved according to my personal appreciation, has been nominated for
several awards for sound and has won some of them. It is then a proposal that, when
like others, it is convenient to analyze and understand, to take from it what works
best for us or interest, or for our future productions. For this I have chosen the feature
film Pan s labyrinth (2006) by director Guillermo del Toro; in charge of the sound
Martin
HernГЎndez, Jaime Baksht and Miguel ГЃngel Polo. I choose this movie because I
think, (and this is what I am trying to proof with this work) , that it has a sound
design very detailed and congruent with what the story tells, in which all the elements
come together to create a fantastic world fairy
24. Popular Culture at the Beginning of the 1960 s Essay
Popular Culture at the Beginning of the 1960 s
1960 s Britain had not yet developed its own style and was still in America s
shadow. Britain was dominated by 1950 s fashion and traditional values. But there
were elements of change developing in radio, TV and theatre and this is what I m
going to explore.
At the beginning of the 1960 s music was still heavily influenced by America.
During the 1950 s everyone was listening to Elvis Presley but by the late 1950 s
/ early 60 s new elements entered the music industry including new British artists. In
1959 Billy Fury, Cliff Richard and Adam Faith all appeared in the charts. They
started to produce records basing their songs and styles on Elvis and his ... Show more

Jackie Kennedy became a new fashion icon, wearing shifts and A line dresses
which had been designed in 1954/5 but not worn till 1960. They soon became
popular. It gave women a new sense of freedom and allowed them to dress in their
own way. Mary Quant opened her first shop in Carnaby Street which soon became
very popular. She opened the way for a new generation of British fashion.
The third type of popular culture controlled by America was film. The British film
industry was in decline. Most films in the cinema were American, such as West
Side Story and Psycho . A new brand of film featuring pop stars interested lots of
teenagers. 1960 saw the start of something new in cinema, the Carry On films. They
showed a new British humour which people had never seen in films before. Other
films were gritty and realistic, that showed the working class and set the scene for
what was to come.
In Britain, radio was also starting to show are more distinctive style. It became one of
the main sources of entertainment with shows like The Goon Show . This surreal
comedy became very popular. Another well liked radio show was Beyond the Fringe
, a satirical comedy that criticized the way the country was run in a light hearted
comedic way. But this made people think more about politics and changed the way
people thought.
TV was also starting to become very popular
25. Yugoslavia War Research Paper
Often termed as Europe s deadliest since World War II, the Yugoslavia War has been
infamous for the war crimes, which include ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity
and rape. These wars supplemented and aided the weathering of the Yugoslav state,
when its constituent republics declared independence, but the issues of ethnic
minorities in the new countries (chiefly Serbs, Croats and Albanians) were still
unsettled at the time the republics were accepted internationally. The International
Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia(ICTY) was established by the United
Nations to prosecute these crimes. According to the International Centre for
Transitional Justice, the Yugoslavia War led to the deaths of 140,000 people.

Serbia secured four out of eight federal presidency votes and was able to heavily
influence decision making at the federal level, since all the other Yugoslav republics
only had one vote. While Slovenia and Croatia wanted to allow a multi party system,
Serbia, led by Milošević, demanded an even more centralized federation and
Serbia s dominant role in it. At the 14th Extraordinary Congress of the League of
Communists of Yugoslavia in January 1990, the Serbian dominated assembly agreed
to abolish the single party system; however, Slobodan Milošević, the head of the
Serbian Party branch (League of Communists of Serbia) used his influence to block
and vote down all other proposals from the Croatian and Slovene party delegates.
This prompted the Croatian and Slovene delegations to walk out and thus the break

26. The Papacy s Reign Over The Masses
The Papacy s Reign Over the Masses During the Middle Ages, the rise of the
Church s influence was made apparent through the many glaring acts of power that
took place. Whether it be a crusade on a far off land, or a local kingdom
challenging the Papacy in ways such as electing their own bishops, they were a
force to be reckoned with. It was in their best interest to control as many people as
possible, working to gain power over the masses. The Papacy persuaded the
common people to fear and support them through expulsion of outsiders, actions in
gods will, and prosecution of the evil people within a society. Non Christians in the
community were often ostracized and persecuted for the benefit of those in power.
During one of the Church s many reformations, a solid social border was created
between the Jewish and Muslim people and the Christian community. It was decreed
by Pope Innocent III that Jewsand Saracens of both sexes in every Christian
province...shall be marked off in the eyes of the public from other peoples through
the character of their dress (Sources, 58). Laws directed just at these select group of
people by the church showed an abundance of power on their part, preventing
outsiders from mixing with the Christians. These laws were developed by the Pope
and his followers during the Fourth Lateran Councils, which took place in order to
strengthen the idea of Christendom, which is a term that explains the times when the
Church acts as the state. During

For my individual case analysis paper, I choose to research more about Under
Armour. Throughout this paper I will touch on the company history and how Under
Armour entered the market based on its overall business strategy. My analysis starts
by looking at the company s strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities.
Secondly my analysis will focus on Porter s five forces model in relation to the
company. I will conclude my analysis with a proposal that I believe will help Under
Armour strive to become the market share leader in the athletic industry worldwide.

III.Company Strategy
As we learned in Chapter 1, a company s strategy is the action plan for
outperforming its competitors and achieving superior profitability through actions to
gain sale and market share via better features, superior designs, and higher quality
products (Gamble 2). There are several key factors that impact Under Armour s
business strategy. They continue to increase their distribution, use professional
athletes as their spokespersons and stay relevant in the market by investing heavily
in R D to produce new products. Under Armour competes with their competitors
utilizing a differentiation strategy to gain sales and market share. We learned in
chapter 5 of our text book, that a differentiation strategy is a strategy that seeks to
produce a competitive edge by incorporating attributes and features that set a
company s product or service offering apart from rivals in ways that buyers consider
valuable and worth paying for (Gamble 112). Under Amour gained first movers
advantage when they were the first to produce a shirt material that kept athletes cool
and dry while still being lightweight. When entering the market their product
differentiation proved to the market that they were a top competitor in the sports
apparel industry, and not the perceived underdog that the market expected. The Under
Armour brand is perceived by

First day of school for the new term, I woke up with a burning passion. I cannot
wait to enrol in the art class, anxious to see the beautiful face of Miss Sophia, eager
to prove my ability in Miss Rina s subject. With all these positivity, I arrived at
school twenty minutes earlier. I never this early. Skipping my breakfast at home,
something called me to have it in the cafeteria of the school, I don t know why, but
that was what I did that morning. When I arrived, many students were already
there, hang out at the cafe while waiting for class to begin. I prefer to sit in a
corner, where I can see all the every angle clearly. Nothing really interesting beside
the coffee that I sip. A group of girls then came and sat at a table near me. Five of
them. Pretty. Trendy Voguish. Whatever they name it, to me it s too much. Simply
too much. But there is one of them who caught my eyes. The simplest among the
other who threw me a friendly smile. I never saw her, or most likely, I never noticed.
Usually, I will buy me coffee and enjoy it with a cigarette under the tree or behind
the building. Conversely, I smiled back at her. A moment later, a butch came and
joined the group. A new face, I m sure, because people like me can be counted with
the fingers at this school. She kissed the cheek of every girl in the group and took
place next to the girl who smiled at me just now. They looked very cherish talking
and occasionally bursting laughter. Tired of the noise, I took my backpack and

expand the business as much as they could and then to also use all of their
materials efficiently. Standard Oil became a monopoly in the oil industry by buying

surrounding area. As well as buying the companies needed to fuel the refineries,

Comparing and Contrasting of Coming of Age Stories Throughout the short stories,
A P by John Updike and Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been by Joyce
Carol Oates there are a various number of similarities and differences between the
two. Both Updike and Oates short stories focused on the sexuality of younger girls
and force the main characters to make a life changing decision. Leaving their
innocence behind, whether they like it or not, by the end of the stories, Sammy and
Connie have come into adulthood. Throughout comparing and contrasting the stories
point of view, main characters, parent involvement, antagonists, and ending of the
stories, you ll come to see that they are coming of age stories. Both John Updike s
and Joyce Carol Oatesshort stories were published in the 1960 s and focused on the
transitional period of the main characters. While Where Are You Going, Where
Have You Been had multiple settings, the main climax took part at Connie s home,
and in, A P , the whole story took place at the supermarket. While A P was told in
first person, through Sammy s eyes, Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been
was told by an outside view in third person. Although the point of views are different,
they both helped the reader understand the text thoroughly. Without A P being told
through Sammy eyes, the reader wouldn t to be able to understand his obsession with
the girls as they walk through the store and why in the end he quit his job. The third

Ancient egypt was a fantastic and innovative culture which was incredibly advanced

the cycle of the sun and moon was to represent creation (tayler pg 29). this cycle
was referenced in almost everything, even where they lived and buried their dead.
In The Mummy they state Hamunaptra, city of the dead and burial site for the sons
of kings (sommers 0.04.00) this sounds reasonable except that this fictional city
resides in the east not in the west where it should theoretically be. this quote taken
from the movie, doesn t explicitly say where the city resides but later on we can
see the sun rising revealing Hamunaptra (sommers 0.37.51). In the beginning of the
movie we see the Pyramids of Giza, then the camera pans down and the narrator
says that the city they are in is Thebes( sommers 0.1.08).the reason why the
Pyramids of Giza are named such is because they are in Giza. The ruins of Thebes is
in modern day Luxor, The pyramids of Giza are approximately seven hundred
kilometres north from Luxor (Egypt [map]), and by extension Thebes. so not only
was Sommer incorrect about the theoretical placement of hamunaptra, but he was
also about 700 kilometres wrong about the Giza

Sapir Whorf hypothesis
Zainab Saleem Khan

It is often thought that the reality that is being expressed in spoken word is the very
same as the reality which is being perceived in thought. Perception and expression are
frequently understood to be synonymous and it is assumed that our speech is mostly
based on our thoughts. This idea presumes that what one says is dependent of how it
is encoded and decoded in the mind. (Badhesha, 2002) In any case, there are
numerous individuals that trust the inverse: what one sees is reliant on the talked
word. The supporters of this thought trust that thinking is reliant on language.
Linguistic Edward Sapir and his understudy Benjamin Lee Whorf are known as far as
concerns them in the promotion of this very guideline. Their aggregate hypothesis,
known as the Sapir Whorf Hypothesis, also known as theory of linguistic relativity,
relativism, determinism, Whorfian hypothesis or even Whorfianism. Initially talked
about by Sapir in 1929, the speculation got to be prominent in the 1950s after post

For instance, in weak determinism language does not define or does not impact one s
view of the world, whereas, in strong determinism this view is defined strongly by
language. Linguistic determinism is the idea that language and its structures limit
and determine human knowledge or thought, as well as thought processes such as
categorization, memory, and perception. The possibility of linguistic determinism has
been explored by a variety of authors, mostly in science fiction. There exist some
languages, like Ithkuil and Toki Pona for instance, which have been constructed for
the purpose of testing the assumption. However, no formal tests appear to have been
33. Bones Essay
In the past decade, network television has been bombarded by crime shows
attempting to make their mark on viewers. All of these programs CSI, Lie to Me,
Numb3rs, Law Order have the same general set up of a male lead with a hot head
who is complemented by his team of FBI agents. As a loyal viewer and fan of Bones,
I often wonder what makes it stay afloat with so many shows out there like it.
Could it be that Bones isn t like any of the other crime shows? Through its crimes
and unsolved murders, Bones helps its viewers make sense of the disastrous world
around them. The world we live in is full of danger and unsolved crime, but after
watching Dr. Brennan, her team of squints and Agent Booth solve even the most

Finally, Nguyen also says that while the actors portray their roles very well, and it
is clear that the slight chemistry between Deschanel [Dr. Brennan] and Boreanaz
[Agent Booth] doesn t seem to be headed for any successful route, which he
obviously thinks is an old, worn out scenario. The chemistry between them is
undeniable, and as we have seen in the most recent season, Booth has accepted his
feelings for Brennan and, in the early episodes of season five, has been trying to
tell her how he feels. In the real world, many crimes remain unsolved, but in Bones
every murder is solved and the killer is brought to justice. As Letizia, the author of a
TV review entitled Bones , asserts, fans root not just for crimes to be solved, but for
[Booth and Brennan], working in tandem, to solve them. The viewer begins to trust
these two characters and think of them as real people they have let into their lives.
Another difference, pointed out by Letizia, that Bones offers is
Where an episode of CSI leaves one with the feeling that evil exists no matter what
we do about it, Bones makes the case that there is also good. Granted, truly happy
endings are rare when it comes to murder investigations, but the victims depicted in
Bones often find some sort of redemption at the end even if it simply means their
families learn what really happened to them.

The Cold Blooded Murder of Mr. Verbermockle
54.3 percent of murder victims were killed by someone they knew (acquaintance,
neighbor, friend, boyfriend, etc.), 24.8 percent were killed by a family member.
The evidence shows that this is logically the case in the Verbermockle murder
mystery. After allegedly finding Mrs. Verbermockle s husband unconscious on the
bathroom floor, Mrs. Verbermockle calls her family doctor. Mrs. Verbermockle
claimed that he must have slipped on a bar of soap, and she did not touch him.
When the doctor arrived, he announced Mr. Verbermockle dead from a fracture to
the rear of the skull caused from blunt force. However, if the FBI statistics are

Verbermockle suffered blunt force head trauma. Knowing that he was killed using
blunt force head trauma, either the weapon or the body would have made a loud
noise from impact. Mrs. V would have been able to hear this loud bang in her own
home. Any normal person would have rushed to the scene immediately after
hearing the noise, especially if the impact was tough enough to cause a fracture in
the rear of his skull, as the doctor had mentioned. In addition, Mr. V s body seems
to be in front of the sink, implying that he was in front of the mirror at the time of
the impact. Anyone would have been able to react if they saw someone behind
them in the mirror. However, his body is placed as if he hadn t moved a muscle.
Though if he saw his wife behind him, he wouldn t have had any worry of suspicion
of an intruder. Most importantly, next to the body is a broken bottle of cologne or
mouthwash that could have been used as the murder weapon. At the murder scene
you can see that the victim has some type of liquid come from the back of his head,
where he was hit at. The bottle was used to hit Mr. V in the back of the head
causing a fracture in his skull while splashing the liquid on him at the same time.
Unless the liquid coming from his head was blood, then bottle didn t splash on him
during the attack. We also know that the attack would have to be fast and swift, as the
body seems that he hadn t moved from the shower. Thus
36. Summary Of The Poem Before I Got My Eye Put Out
In both of Emily Dickinson s poem she refers to her sight. In the poem, Before I
Got My Eye Put Out, it s about her lost of sight, but throughout the poem she has
many metaphors about her lost of sight. Like in the first stanza she s talking about
how she liked and enjoyed her sight when it was good but didn t appreciate it as
much when she had it. Then in her other poem, We Grow Accustomed to the Dark, it
s saying how her sight is bad but she s getting used to the dark and can get around
much easier towards the end of the poem. In stanzafour she is saying how the brave
stumbles in the dark but learns to walk properly. Finally the attitude of the poem,
Before I got my eyeput out, is kind of regretful because she wasn t grateful for her
sight when she had it but now regrets that. In the poem, We grow accustomed to the
dark, the speaker shows perseverance when she talks about trying and trying to get
used to the dark and adjust to it. In this poem, Before I got my eye put out, the
speaker is talking about how she misses her sight in the first stanza saying, Before
I got my eye put out I liked as well to see... this shows that she liked her vision.
Then says, ...And know no other way, I think this means that she knows no other
way to see like she used to before. This means that she regrets not appreciating her
eyes as much and realizes that when she loses her sight. Then in stanza four she says,
The motions of the dipping birds the morning s Amber roadfor mine to look at when
I liked... In this part the speaker is saying how she used to see the dipping birds and
amber roads but now that her sights isn t as good she misses all of that. After all of
the images she misses seeing she says, The news would strike me dead, she was
shocked and very sad about the news. Then in the poem, We grow accustomed to
the dark, the speaker talks about how she s slowly getting used to the dark. At first
she s talking how she need the neighbors lamp light to help her find her way. Then
explains how the first steps she was uncertain of and her vision will adjust to the
dark and help her walk straighter. Then in stanza four she says, The bravest grope a

Over the years as the European identity developed, it inevitably came across the issue
of justice and home affairs (JHA) and to what extant it had dictation over its member
states borders. As the European Community and later the European Union established
and expanded its policies over issues such as asylum, immigration and police, judicial
cooperation, many began to criticize the European Unionsaying it was relinquishing
the sovereignty of its member states. As the mandate over justice and home affairs
moved from the national level to the European level, the EU had to figure how much
jurisdiction they could have over member states borders without imposing on the
national governments or living up to its reputation as Fortress Europe.
I. The Initial Cooperation As the European Community continued to grow,
immigration became a more prominent problem. There were increased movements
between Western European countries as well as increases in labor and family
unification migration. After World War 2, Western Europe became a major place for
immigration and so now not only was there mass movements between the western
countries, but also mass movements from outside countries. All of this led to a spike
in asylum applications and greater concern over cross border organized crime as it
strained the border controls of the Western European countries dealing with so much
migration.
As immigration continued to rise and the border patrols weakened, there was a need

40. Vitamin C And Its Effect On Human Body
Chapter 1
1.Introduction
1.1.Vitamin B
Vitamins are a class of naturally occurring chemical compounds needed in fixed
amounts for important body functions. They play important role in energy
generations, red blood cells and neurochemical production. They are micro nutrients
which are involved in the biological wear and tear of the body and an important part
of a balance diet. Since the human body cannot produce vitamins which are required
in normal concentration; they can be gained either from food sources or from dietary
supplements. There are total of 13 kinds of vitamins needed by the human body
comprising of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin K and eight included in the
group vitamin B (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12). Vitamin B group or
complex contains all the water soluble vitamins that play an important role in
metabolism. Due to the watery composition of our body, these vitamins have the
ability to move inside our body and can be removed through urine without any
difficulty. Thus, such vitamins are not stored by our bodies and need replenishing
on a daily basis. Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of vitamin B complex for the
body. Processed foods lose their vitamin B content thus through the process of
enrichment as specified by food laws and regulations, the vitamin B is added into the
food. Rich sources of vitamin B include potatoes, whole grains, legumes, nuts, meat
and fish. Due to their delicate chemical nature, vitamin B complex is

Colony were there to stop demonstrations against the Townshend Acts and keep
order, but instead they provoked outrage. The British soldiers and citizens brawled
in streets and fought in bars. The citizens viewed the British soldiers as potential
oppressors, competitors for jobs, and a treat to social mores . A defiant anti British
fever was lingering among the townspeople.
There are three major things that led to the Boston Massacre: First was the growing
mistrust among the British soldiers and Americans. There were a number of other
incidents were the British clashed with the patriots and their supporters. Individual
soldiers were beaten on street corners and soldiers abused unarmed civilians. In all
the Americans in Boston made it clear that the British soldiers were unwanted. The
second reason is somewhat odd. The removal of two out of four regiments meant
there were to inadequate amounts of soldiers to keep the peace. There were enough
on the other hand to remind the patriots of the great British military. The last reason
would be the revolt of the Townshend Acts. The patriots and Americans did not agree
and strife with the British soldiers over it. The Act built tension between the two.
On March 5, 1770 the dreadful day came. A
42. Factory Working Conditions Of Bangladesh
Factory Working Conditions In Bangladesh Does it take a catastrophic event for the
factories in Bangladesh to become know for the harsh working conditions? Most
Americans don t understand, nor do Americans see how the factories and sweatshop
workers are affected by the unsafe environments, the illegal use of children, and the
minimal pay with no compensation. Americans take for granted the pay received,
and the type of working conditions that are set in order to for the business to operate.
Child labor laws in Bangladesh are very few in number, and the few that are set in
place don t completely protect the underage children working. Working in such a
hazardous environmentthe workers should be compensated in either pay or benefits.
The working environments and conditions in Bangladesh are not only harsh, but
unsafe, and the workers are under compensated for the conditions.
Factories in Bangladesh have some of the worst working environments for workers to
operate in. There is no comparison between American factories, and factories in
Bangladesh. In Bangladesh alone some of the most catastrophic work hazards happen
in the factories. In
Spencer 2
America certain laws are set in place to have guarantee that hazardous workplaces are
under control, and at a certain point. Otherwise the business and or factory would
have to be shut down for unsafe working conditions. On the 24th of April 2013 one of

43. Ronald Reag Foreign Policy
Austin Ferguson
April 16th, 2015
Mr. Smith
APUSH
Research Paper on the Presidents in the 80 s and 90 s Ronald Reagan:
Foreign Policy President Reagan s foreign policy took a sharp turn from his
predecessors tactics of easing tensions and instead chose to escalate the cold war
conflict, arguing the moral superiority of the U.S. s governmental system and
framing the Cold War as a fight between the good and free capitalist United States
versus the evil communist regime. ( Reagan Doctrine at U.S. Department of State)
This direct confrontal approach later became known as the Reagan Doctrine . In his
pursuit of the USSR he implemented a new policy through the National Security
Decisions Directive to diminish the resources of the Soviet ... Show more content on

In a political snafu the Reagan administration sold arms to Iran so that they could
secure the release of US hostages and also generate enough money to support
Contra. This became known as the Iran Contra Affair and steeply affected Reagan
s popularity with the people. (Mayer, Jane and Doyle McManus) Reagan s
willingness to use violence alarmed many, especially when he took up the position
of the Soviet Union being purely evil. After Gorbachev became a chairman
representing many soviet political parties and took on a position of negotiator,
Reagan became less militant and more open to discussion, seeing Gorbachev as a
good man who came out of an evil system. A significant event during this period
was Reagan s speech at the berlin wall, which urged Gorbachev to bring down the
wall and reunite berlin. As tensions rapidly declined the Soviets declared that they
would no longer interfere in allied affairs.
Domestic Policies Reagan s domestic policies focused on conservative economic
values, specifically his implementation of supply side economics and large tax cuts,
which thereafter were dubbed Reaganomics Which lowered tax rates, reduced
regulation, limited new currency, reduced the growth of government spending. When
he entered the presidency Reagan faced an extremely high rate of inflation and high
interest rates which he sought to limit by making large tax cuts and curbing social
spending. This produced major results, expanding the economy and

BOY WILLIE: It s my piano too, and I ll leave as soon as I get it out of here!

45. Magical Realism In Edgar Allen Poe s Fall Of The House...
One of the scariest experiences of my life was when Hayden was climbing a
mountainside. Hayden went to grab a plant to help myself up, but it ripped out.
When that happened Hayden s brother had caught Hayden s arm and helped
Hayden up because if Hayden had fallen, Hayden was most likely going to die.
This scenario relates to gothic literature; because I was in a bleak setting and it
relates to magical realism because for some reason, my brother, caught me at the
perfect time. These genres are similar in that they both use supernatural events in
the story. However, Edgar Allen Poe s Fall of the House of Usher is an example of
gothic literature because it tells you how the story ends; while Julio Cortazar s
House Taken Over is an example of magical realism because it discusses historic
facts with a mysterious feeling. Hayden s scariest experience can best be described
as an experience which are examples of the potential tragedies found in Gothic and
Magical Realist genres.
Gothic literature and magical realism are similar for the sake of them build off
each other taking real life places or relatable characters put in an eccentric celestial
world. In Edgar Allen Poe s Fall in the house Usher Edgar reveals the darkest
aspects of the human mind and heart were remarkably revealing and what it means
to be human. Rodrick buries his blood related sister who is alive while the narrator

46. The Poverty Cycle
According to Britannica School, Poverty is the state of a person who lacks a
socially acceptable amount of money or material possession. Socially acceptable
may be described as lacking the means to satisfy one s basic needs. An average
working citizen may not realize what poverty is really like. As stated in a Youtube
interview by Scott Pelley, actually going into povertyand living it will open your
eyes to an America that you didn t know existed. Additionally, it is often seen that
poverty is a cycle. It passes over the generations because of the difficulties it takes to
break free from it. Poverty can be a cycle that passes from generation to generation,
but through two generation programs and education, it can be overcome. Often times,

In one example, a research report by National Human Services Assembly, called
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty in Young Families, explains what the two generation
approach is and its tactics. The two generation approach is an arrangement that
helps break the cycle by offering programs that focus on the development of
parents, their children, and the family as a whole. In this report, an exploratory
study of these two generation programs is explained. It is shown that the programs
work when you re engage parents in education and work, nurture parent child
bonds, improve children s well being, and connect families with economic, social,
and other supports. In the situations where these tactics were used, the results were
mostly successful (NHSA1,2). One of the most important aspects of this program
is focusing on the family as a whole, and how everyone in the family can be helped.
In another article, Can Poverty Be Passed Down?, a specific program is described.
This program, called Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath) works with parents
and children to develop executive functioning skills. These are the skills that help
you maintain a stable economic state. EMPath helps parents and children navigate
their way out of poverty. They equip both generations to do better in schools and get
better jobs. One of the techniques the program uses is setting goals with the whole
family after talking about their challenges. When goals are reached, rewards and
incentives are given. The ultimate goal is to teach economic mobility. As a result,
most parents in the six month program took steps to become more self sufficient, and
the children achieved goals like better grades and saving money (Johnston2 6). If
more of these programs were spread throughout the country, poverty could majorly be
helped. Whole family poverty situations could be solved.

48. Improving Performance Management Strategies And
Alignment...
RECOMMENDATIONS
The following section provides recommendations based on the data obtained during
the study. Recommendations will be presented for ways to improve consistency in
Performance Management strategies and alignment between and organizational
goals, and therefore increase overall performance.
Timeliness
Under the current system the year end review occurs at the earliest in March. In order
to create a forward thinking performance management approach within the year end
review, it should be given by the end of January. Discussing goals and ways to move
forward must occur when the employee has an opportunity to improve their
performance and achieve the established goals.

Implement 360 degree Appraisal Although performance cannot be judge alone with
360 degree assessment, it provides a commentary aspect that will assist an
organization in Leadership Development and Succession Planning. Including the 360
degree appraisal in the performance management process will provide a broader
perspective about an employee s performance and detail to annual appraisal. In
addition, the technique facilitates greater self development for an employee.
Moreover, it enables an employee to compare his or her self evaluation about
performance with the perceptions of others.
Management via App
Many companies are transitioning to the use of Apps to provide ongoing feedback
to their employees. General Electric, a company famous for their year end reviews
has scrapped them and now uses an App process. The new app is called PD@GE
for performance development at GE . Managers are expected to have frequent
discussions, called touch points, on progress toward those goals and note what was
discussed, committed to, and resolved. The app can provide summaries on command,
through typed notes, photographs of a notepad, or even voice recordings. The focus
isn t on grading how well people are doing, but on constant improvement (Nilsen,
2015).
Employees can give or request feedback at any point through a feature called insights,

49. Dog Racing Research Paper
Sled dog racing is a sport of racing sleds pulled by certain breeds of dogs, usually
over snow covered courses in Northern Alaska. ( Dog Sled Racing ) Northern Alaska
is a hot spot for sled dog racing because it typically stays covered in snow all year
around and has beautiful scenery. The best sled dogracing environments are ones
with plenty of fluffy snow and open terrain. ( Dog Sledding Locations ) The
Iditarod race is one of the most famous sled dog race around. The race is held in
Alaska during the month of March and covers 1,100 miles of open terrain; this
race is the longest in Alaska since the year of 1967! ( Dog Sled Racing ) About 1,000
or more dogs are included in this race equalling to about seventy five teams. During
this race,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Training begins when the puppy is about eight weeks old and continues throughout
the puppy s life. ( Training Your Sled Dog ) At eight weeks old the puppy should
be handled regularly and handled with other dogs to know that aggressiveness is
not necessary. At this certain age of eight weeks the puppy should be wearing a
collar that allows them to drag a lightweight leash around for a few minutes daily.
When the puppy reaches ten weeks old, it should be placed in a harness for about
an hour every day. When the puppy feels comfortable with its harness on, place it
in its harness during meal time. This will help the puppy learn to eat with its
harness on and get used to wearing the harness while doing an activity. When the
puppy gets to about four months old it is ready to pull a lightweight object around
the yard a couple of times a week; Mushers usually begin with a track from a
snowmobile because it doesn t bounce around and it slides easily on the ground. (
Case, Deana ) When the dog is ready to begin racing, it is placed in early pre season
training runs that are short distances and designed to get the dogs and the sled
back into running shape . Long distance training begins in September and runs
throughout October to begin getting the dogs used to running in the cold
conditions and pulling a sled. ( Dog Sled Racing ) At this time Musher s begin
teaching their dogs commands including the following: Gee , Haw , Hike ,
making a kissing noise, Easy , Whoa , On By , and Leave It . ( Dog Sled Racing ;
Dog Sled Commands ; Case, Deana ) These commands all mean a certain thing and
only some dogs understand a few. That s when the dogs get placed in the correct
position on the sled. Command or Gee/Haw Dogs are positioned on the very front of
the sled because they understand to turn left or right. Trail Leader Dogs don t quite
understand the command Gee and Haw so they are positioned right
50. Conflict Of Conflict Management Styles
Introduction Many people do their best to avoid conflict at all costs, but it is an
occurrence that everyone must deal with from time to time. Understandable, the
avoidance of conflict is glamorous, however learning how to handle the conflicts can
make them seem less bothersome. Learning how to manage conflictis a key factor in
becoming a manager and the execution of that learning can be very different from
manager to manager. Shanker (2013) describes conflict managementstyles as an
equation involving the disposition of the manager, range of situations the manager
finds themselves in, specific strategies, and individual intentions. Every manager is
different in their conflict managementstyle, but the act of confrontation is present in
most conflicts.
Confrontation
The confrontation style of conflict management can be seen in higher performing
organizations, but can be found in all situations, professional or personal (Goncalves,
et al., 2016). Confrontation is defined as the volatile face to face interaction regarding
a particular conflict, usually regarded as aggressive or argumentative. Cahn and
Abigail (2014) offer six steps to confrontation that can aid a manager in transitioning
through a conflict. These steps include Preparation: identify your problems/needs
/issues, arrange for a time and place to meet and talk, interpersonal confrontation: talk
to the other person about your problem, consider your partner s point of view: listen,
empathize, and respond with
51. Astrological Emptiness in Steve Almond’s “The
Problem of...
In Steve Almond s story The Problem of Human Consumption , it revolves around
the theme of loss, morning, and grief. Almond s story focuses on a widowed father
who is passed on to raise his daughter single handily. The story discussed a day in
which feelings of morning and deception are brought out among the characters. The
feelings of loss, morning and grief in this story have greatly manifested the way this
story was written and interpreted. After breaking down Almond s story and
reanalyzing it, it can be determined that through his use of the parallelof astrology
(space) mixed with his way of selective word choice and use of symbolism that he is
able to strongly and effectively support his work.

In one scene, Paul, the father, is holding his deceased wife s wedding ring, which,
appears to be suspended in the air. He talks about it as seeming to be suspended
and defies the law of gravity . When he discovers the ring, it is narrated that, The
hair is looped through the band, actually in a way that when he holds both ends the
ring is suspended. He...the ring is defying the law of gravity (Almond 144).
Relating back to astrology, objects that are in dimensional space are suspended due
to the properties of space and the law of gravity . The parallel of astrology that the
author use has to do with space , that space which is being mirrored would be the
void (emptiness, another form of space) that Paul and Jess have due to the loss they re
both facing, the loss of his wife also her mother. The space in which the suspended
ring creates through it, serves as a mirror to the void which both character face.
Symbolically, the void is represented with the dead wife s wedding ring.
Analytically, the ring is missing the space in which it use to occupy. Here again
recurs the theme of space relating to the most symbolic object throughout the story,
the wedding ring. The author used this parallel of astrology in order emphases one
of the vastest, curiosity striking, mystery to be discovered, which is space in terms
of astrological space, but along paralleling to the space of emptiness (in terms of loss
of a love one). He does this in order to analogously relate it to his
