The document discusses Building Information Modeling (BIM) and its importance for construction. It defines BIM as a building database that contains interconnected digital models for various building components (e.g. architectural, structural, HVAC). BIM is also described as both a process involving different project phases and as various software tools. The document emphasizes that BIM is important because it allows product selection decisions to occur earlier in the design process. It also outlines how BIM is practiced for different stakeholders and the types of product information that should be delivered throughout the building lifecycle.
Building information modelling (BIM) is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. Building information models (BIMs) are files (often but not always in proprietary formats and containing proprietary data) which can be extracted, exchanged or networked to support decision-making regarding a building or other built asset.

I analyze Anoushiravan Ghamsari in two steps: first his place in architecture and next his accomplishments in combining architecture and civil engineering. I think they are both consistent with each other, despite that I’ve always known him for his place as a architect and an outstanding teacher and has been effective in its academic performance at saint Petersburg and his unique style. Anoushirvan has his own place and his fruits of labor are many and each has an important place in our community’s architecture.

SkyBIM - Accelerate Project Roll-out with Integrated BIM PrototypingSkyBIM
SkyBIM (www.skybim.com) has developed a powerful 'Design-Cost-Build-Manage' BIM platform that can significantly accelerate the roll-out of similar projects by using multidisciplinary, fully costed BIM prototypes. The beauty of SkyBIM is that all important building data is cloud hosted and can be accessed and queried by all project stakeholders - anywhere, anytime - even across multiple projects.
- Cost estimates are real-time and generated at the click of a button.
- Owner receives 'digital doubles' of projects for asset tracking & facilities management.
- Collab, our real-time collaboration tool, allow users to attach real-time information (messages, scheduled reminders, barcoding, status updates, checklists, files, photos, markups, etc) to BIM objects in any context.
- SkyBIM incorporates classification standards such as UniFormat, MasterFormat & OmniClass.
As simple as Lego
Many Revit users tend to overmodel. SkyBIM's approach is to treat BIM elements as PLACEHOLDERS for REAL-WORLD PRODUCT RECIPES. This is much easier and way more flexible. Furthermore recipes are learnt across projects which means costing becomes progressively quicker with each successive project.

Collaboration is coming to the building industry. It’s a monumental shift that promises speed and efficiency. A shared building model which digitally captures ALL project information and makes it available to the entire project team throughout the lifecycle of the building is widely seen as the Next Big Thing in design and construction. The one who controls the project information will be at the center of the building enterprise.
SkyBIM is a cloud-based platform to host all the information collected throughout a building's lifecycle to optimise the way buildings are designed, costed, constructed, and managed.
Since projects are securely hosted in the cloud, multiple members of the project team can simultaneously collaborate on an estimate. Whether you are the architect, estimator, contractor or owner - you can view a project’s latest takeoff quantities, edit product costs, create construction assemblies and print reports.
SkyBIM can provide massive automation in the real-time management and cost estimating of chain stores. Once we have configured and costed one store, the rest are essentially automatic.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Editor's Notes
Before we get into the topic, BIM, I want to get a feel for what you have heard about BIM. Then I’ll take a minute to give you an introduction of who I am, then we’ll dive into the topic.
But first…Who are you?Anyone representing a Building Product Manufacturer?Anyone here already taken the plunge into BIM? If so, how & what have you done?
While that’s not me in the picture, the image is a good example of how primitive things were just a few years before I started in computers drawing pictures, drafting designs and documenting buildings. The picture is actually an image of what most people in the software industry consider to be the very first Graphical User Interface, an application called Sketchpad developed by Ivan Sutherland around 1962.
Again, that last picture wasn’t me, and it was taken a few years before I knew how to turn on a TV, much less a computer. But I’ve been involved in computer graphicsprior to Autodesk’s rise to the top of the CAD world (25+ years ago). I got my first computer when I was about 12 yrs old, the same time I got a drafting board and some old drafting tools from my grandfather for my Bar Mitzvah.
And since then, I’ve been involved in computer graphics, CAD, rendering, programming and the architecture, engineering and construction industry. And as a CAD reseller, consultant, programmer, marketer and business leader, I’ve seen CAD evolve from an expensive and cumbersome way to draw lines, arcs and circles…
…into a fully integrated suite of desktop and web-based tools that allow for buildings to be designed, engineering and constructed better and faster. I’ve worked with some of the world’s leaders along the way and help lay the foundation, develop the software and put into place the BIM and VDC tools and workflows which have brought you to this room today to learn what this all means to you.
The first part of the presentation will include a brief history of BIM and the three or four software platforms used to generate BIM 3D buildings and objects. During this time we will emphasize the significant impact that the shift from 2D CAD to BIM has and will continue to bring in the way that buildings are designed by architects and the current and future ways in which engineers and general contracts will interact during schematic design, design development, bid and construction.
So, let’s assume we’re all on the same page regarding what BIM means from a very high level. The next logical question is, why should I really care about BIM.
Digging in a bit deeper into the definition of BIM, let’s explore how BIM is used, leveraged and what value BIM provides to the various Building Project participants.

BIM for Construction enables crazy designs to actually be built.
And it allows for better construction techniques to be put into place because contractors are building first in the computer and then on the job site.

DHI as an association, and individual members need to consider, and act accordingly by remembering BIM is not like building a house out of Legos. The user does not want a hinge BIM object that he needs to download, separate a BIM object for a lockset, separate from a frame, a door leaf, a kick-plate, etc, etc. In fact, in some cases, they don’t need 3D representation of some of these parts, but they need the data in a basic BIM models that simply looks like a door in a frame.
To give it to you in a Math equation…The Value of BIM content is in direct proportion to the Time savings your content offers the user, plus the Consideration for the Building Lifecycle minus Lack of Usability, times the Ease of AccessTo put this into English:You need to deliver the Right info, in the Right format, to the Right User, at the Right time.
That helps us understand to whom we are going to be presenting over the next 50 minutes. And before we get into the topic, BIM in the Door Hardware Industry, let us take a minute each to give you an introduction of who we are.
