Sign Language Analysis
1. Introduction
Language is more than the knowledge and use of words, both in speech and in text; it is a cultural
identity, a signifier of status, a means of personal expression. Language enables people to share their
thoughts and needs, establish a dialogue with each other and work together. Language is not just
confined to the worlds of speech and printed text, there are many ways in which people are able to
communicate such as Australian Sign Language, Braille, cultural skills, customs and art (Emmitt,
Pollock Komesaroff, 2010, p. 52). Aboriginal dreamtime paintings are an example of language as art,
a skill passed down through thousands of generations, with different symbols that have ascribed
meanings and are used in an artwork to tell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This juxtaposition of cultural identities is especially apparent in schools where children arrive with
their already learned cultural language and are often expected by their educators and peers to learn and
use standard Australian English. In early childhood, language is the primary tool with which children
learn cultural knowledge, norms and skills (Gee, 2011, p. 16), strongly informing their cultural
identity. Children who are bilingual, or multilingual, often demonstrate enhanced language skills
gained from their ability to switch between languages (Adoniou, 2014; Fellowes et al., 2014, p. 39),
but these children are not always understood and supported. When educators dismiss the languages of
students who speak English variants or languages other than English at home, they risk
underestimating and disempowering those students (Adoniou, 2014; Caruso, 1997, p. 93). It is vital
that instead of requiring students to assimilate, to learn and to use the language register of the school
or classroom, educators should be supporting students for whom English is not a first language, or
who speak an English variant (Pandey, 2012, p. 388). Educators should be valuing the qualities,
abilities and strengths these students bring to the classroom (Emmitt et al., 2010, p. 53), as well as
educating their monolingual students about

Sneeization In School
The project goal was for school aged children to not get a cold or the flu during this year s flu season
at school. The project went well, and should decrease the spread of the cold and flu at fairmeadows
elementary school. The first objective was, the children will demonstrate proper cough and sneeze
etiquette to the the teachers at school to show them how to cough and sneeze into their elbow
effectively 5 times at the end of the presentation. This goal was achieved by the entire group when
playing the game Simon says. I used a rubric to evaluate if the children understood what to do when
they coughed or sneezed. The children properly displayed coughing and sneezing into their elbow
during the game on their first or second time. The second

The United States And Mccarthyism
He was amicable; loved by his friends and family. He was raised Roman Catholic, was a member of
the National Rifle Association and a registered Republican. He led a typical American life. He grew
up in a rural town just outside of Buffalo and he was neighborly, an all American. His beliefs were
never strange or confined to the fringes of American society. In fact, the fear of outsiders and the need
to bear arms is something that recurs throughout American history, from the eras of the Ku Klux Klan
to the period of McCarthyism. The largest difference between the man that drove that car into a
federal building and the majority of Americans is that he was prepared to shed blood to defend liberty.
His name was Timothy McVeigh and was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was at the age of thirteen, that Eddie McVeigh gifted McVeigh with a .22 caliber rifle, the first of
many firearms Tim would own (American Terrorist, 2001). Timothy s childhood experiences, his
severe interest in guns and his skills of preparation, are all seemingly innocent actions of a child (.
However, in retrospect, it is easy to recognize the dexterities and ideals that were forming at such a
young age. In the book, American Terrorist, the authors interviewed McVeigh extensively, and it was
in this book that McVeigh publicly admitted to his acts and demonstrated his reasoning. In 1995,
McVeigh detonated a truck bomb in front of a federal building in Oklahoma City. The attack is known
as the most noteworthy act of domestic terrorism in American History. McVeigh was a Gulf War
veteran who pursued retribution against the U.S. government for their management of the Waco Siege
in 1993 and the Ruby Ridge incident in 1992. He had hoped to inspire a revolt against the
government. When in court, McVeigh inculcated that his lawyers use the necessity defense, yet since
his lawyers would have to prove that he was in imminent danger from the government; it ended up not
happening (Jo, 1997). In fact, McVeigh did not receive the trial he wanted. His lawyers would have to
argue that his bombing of the Murrah building was a justifiable response to what McVeigh believed
were the crimes of the U.S. government in Waco, Texas (Jo, 1997).

The Civil Rights Movement And The African American Freedom...
However, Soundtrack For A Revolution only shows half of what the Civil Rights Movement is about.
This documentary fails to show the Armed resistance aspect of the African American Freedom
struggle. As the documentary shows the nonviolent part of the Civil Rights Movement it leaves out
how important the role of armed resistance was in the African American freedom struggle. It
unsuccessfully shows how armed resistance made the Civil Rights Movement possible and protected
many civil rights leaders such a Martin Luther King. Soundtrack For A Revolution does not
demonstrate how gun owners protected institutions of the movement like churches and freedom house
nor does it explain how nonviolent protesters would ve been driven out of town without armed
resistance. Armed resistance was a vital part of the Civil Rights Movement and the failure to include it
in the documentary does not accurately represent the African American freedom struggle.
While on the subject of nonviolence, Soundtrack For A Revolution also does a good job in utilizing
many important civil rights activists who were apart of the nonviolent movement, some of which are
SCLC and SCLC members, John Lewis, and Martin Luther King. Although conversely, the film
exhibits the myth of the Civil Rights Movement being King Centric. The documentary focuses on
many facts of Martin Luther King s life including, his involvement in Southern Christian Leadership
Conference (SCLC), his view on nonviolence, the bombing of his house,

New Jim Crow Laws Essay
As of 2010, thirteen and a half percent (13 ½%) of all African Americans comprise the U.S.
population. Look back one hundred to two hundred (100 200) years ago, the African American
population has gone through strife. The real question is still pending, is it much easier for African
American during the pre Civil Rights Movement Era that now? My opinion is that it is better. The
reason why I coined my opinion is to show that there have been stops in racial caste, media creating
propaganda, and blacks advancing in parts of the world. By producing these parts, I will introduce the
idea that the African American life has evolved for the better. In the article of the New Jim Crow Laws
paragraph one (1), evidence to prove this is ...Obama s election has been touted as the final nail in the
coffin of Jim Crow, the bookend placed on the history of racial caste in America... This previous quote

Global Warming Problem In Canada
Too much moisture, not enough rain, lots of wind, and strange weather has been a part of global
warming. Scientists are mixed up in the report they give about global warming. Some belief that it is
here now and others believe it does not be a problem. The general population of Canada believes
global warming is here and is a disasterous for our country. Generally Canadians believe that it is the
impact of fossil fuels which has caused global warming.
Fossil fuels are a major contributor to global warming. The use of oil, gas and coal is the enormous to
fuel our transportation, warm our houses, and run our businesses. To begin with, oil is found in almost
every area of our lifes. From the beginning of when we find oil to when we throw an oil product away
we are adding to global warming. When they find oil, they get it out of the ground. When they get it
out of the ground, they pollute the environment by using machinery. The machinery pollutes the air
because the carbon monoxide is given off from the machines goes into our atmosphere. If they are
mining the oil then large amounts of the land is destroyed and will take man, many years to grow
again. Again the machinery that is used to strip the oil from the land pollutes the air with its carbon
monoxide. The process that is used to take the oil out of the sand also pollutes the air. In addition to
that, any of the products that are made from oil result in pollution in the way of factories putting

Descriptive Essay About A Sacred Place
It goes without saying that everyone on earth has at least one sanctuary. For some, this place is high up
in the branches of a tree, where they can touch the sky with outstretched fingertips and feign a lack of
attachment to the busy world lying below. For others, this sacred place might be found in a place as
close and accessible as a cubbyhole in their own home. For others still, it might be in a library, or on a
quiet mountaintop, the hard pews of a church building, or even a person. I myself have found my
haven to be far away and, for now, out of my reach, in a city called Wilmington in North Carolina. It is
the seventh or eighth largest city in the state, but the downtown area isn t too busy to relax and breathe
in the fresh air drifting from the beach only a few miles away. It is peaceful and serene, but still
bustling with just the right amount of life and activity to be always uplifting, and flawless in its own
way.
My family used to visit there once a year for about a week in the summer. We would go camping and
spend the majority of our time frequenting the beach. Back then I was tiny, but even now I know I
would be overwhelmed by the vast space of the sky opened up over me, blue and deep in a reflection
of the water below it. I would try with all my might to run through the grainy, hot sand scraping away
at the bottoms of my burning feet onto cooler ground, where cool ocean water counteracted the sun s
hot touch. Even as a little girl, the beach wasn t just a place

Emile Durkheim Suicide
In his research paper Suicide: a study of sociology , Emile Durkheim primarily argues that suicide is
not necessarily an act of individualisation but rather it s an act that is influenced by one s position in
his or her society. Each society, according to Durkheim, has its definite quota of suicide. Durkheim
provides understanding of the societal conditions that contribute to increased rates of suicide within
various types of cultural and religious groups. One condition which contributes to the increased
suicide rates in the society is integration, which is the sense that an individual is part of a society.
According to Durkheim, individuals who are either extremely under integrated into society or over
integrated into society are the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The believe of suicide bombers that their contribution to their group by killing others or taking their
own lives will bring change into the society could be viewed as an egoistic act. However, their acts of
committing those actions as a part of a group is an act of altruism. Since an individual s tie with his or
her society is broken, he or she starts to believe that they are free from social expectations and they are
free to act against the society in order to reform it. Egoistic beliefs made the suicide bombers feel as
they are isolated from their own society and they don t hesitate to take a action for themselves.
Therefore, deciding to become a suicide bomber is part of egoistic belief where committing the attack
to please a group deals with the altruistic aspect of suicide bombing. Accordingly, the idea of suicide
bombing can be categorized as both egoistic and altruistic suicide. There were many times when the
egoistic and altruistic aspect of suicide overlapped ideas of one another. Therefore, it s time to re
explore Durkheim s idea of egoistic and altruistic suicide in order to explore more of their similarities.
Suicide bombing is an example of how these two form of suicides shares many common concepts.
Consequently, suicide bombing suggests us to re evaluate Durkheim s concept of egoistic and

The Impacts of Tourism on the Local Community in Tung Chung
Intro
Tung Chung is an area which is located on the Lantau Island. Right after the opening of the Hong
Kong International Airport in 1998, it was developed as part of the Airport Core Programme. The
government decided to make Tung Chung the first new town on an outlying island. First, the
government began with the infrastructure there, housing is also built to attract more people move in.
In 1998, the Tung Chung line of MTR was opened. It provided a much easier access of the region and
thus rose the willingness of people to visit. A few more years later, people discovered the potential of
Tung Chung to be a tourist spot, as there are a number of tourist attractions like the Big Buddha. As a
result, hotels are also built in the region, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1.2 Solid waste
If noise is not a big problem, how about solid waste? We know that tourists tend to consume in their
journey. Will the waste they create be a problem to the Tung Chung community? 33
To be a well designed tourist spot, of course you have to take care of every basic need of the tourists.
It includes the provision of food and beverage. However, the catering sector is one of the largest
origins of waste. It produces considerable amount of food waste, disposable tableware and packaging
everyday. I observed that there are a lot of restaurants in Citygate and the Ngong Ping village. I
believe the amount of waste they produce everyday should be considerable too. We can see that it is
one of the ways how tourism boosts consumption. and finally leads to the problem of solid waste.
However, after my observation, I do not think this particular problem causes huge impacts to the local
community. The government and the developer of the attractions have done a great job on waste
management. They collect and transfer the waste in an efficient way, which makes me unable to obtain
proof of the solid waste problem. The hygienic condition of the streets and public areas was
satisfactory too. I only saw rubbish on the bench in the bus terminus. 182

How Did Women Get To Vote In 1918
To what extent were women s efforts throughout the First World War the main reason behind them
gaining the vote in 1918?
The Representation of the People Act allowed women, over the age of 30, in Great Britain to vote for
the first time in 1918. Previously, women had been viewed as uneducated and irrational, unable to
make a decision on who to vote for themselves. Women had also been expected to stay at home,
looking after children, cooking, and cleaning, for when their husbands returned. However, many
women had grown tired of this and wanted the right to vote as a way of voicing their opinions and so
that they could get even more equality for women across Britain. The contributions made by women,
on the Homefront, during the First World War ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The National Union of Women s Suffrage Societies (NUWSS), nicknamed the Suffragists, believed in
peaceful campaigning, such as handing out pamphlets and organising petitions. Their hope was that
this would persuade the government to grant middle class women the vote, and by the beginning of
the war in 1914 the Suffragists had over 53,000 supporters. This docile way of campaigning impressed
many men as it did not outstep the boundaries that women were restricted to throughout and just
following the Victorian times, however it showed that women were intelligent enough to organise a
campaign that grew a rather large support. They gained a lot of respect through this way of
campaigning with even the future Prime Minister David Lloyd George announcing his support for
them publicly. However, this way of campaigning could be argued as easily ignored as although the
Suffragists had gained some support from members of Parliament; there was no real political progress
towards women gaining the vote before 1914, despite them having been campaigning for almost
twenty years. Overall, the Suffragists played some part in women gaining the vote in 1918, as they
brought the issue to the attention of the government, however their campaign was far too submissive
for any real progress to be

Australia Does Not Have Its Own Culture Essay examples
Australian culture has vanished and turned into multiculturalism. There is no longer a typical
Australian culture, but it has been replaced by a melting pot of diversity. There is no longer a typical
Australian food, instead it has imported and embraced cuisines from around the world. There is no
longer a typical Australian life instead each immigrant can have their own culture in Australia. There
are few national holidays and festivals that are unique to Australia, but rather have come from other
cultures. To get a better understanding of this, culture is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as:

appreciation and understanding of literature, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what s so unique about that? Therefore, there is no longer a typical Australian food as the foods
have come from many various cultures.
Secondly, Australia consists of many cultures where each cultural group is allowed to have their own
unique culture without integrating with Australian people. One could come from China and not even
have to speak English because there are so many Chinese people in Australia over 1,950,000 Chinese
live in Australia. Since Australia has many mixed cultures one could have their own culture in
Australia. So many immigrants have come in a short space of time from over 226 different cultures
thus diluting Australia s original culture. Migrants have enriched almost every aspect of Australian
life, from business to the arts, from cooking to comedy and from science to sport. Australia s laws
allow immigrants to express their own culture here. This all the more showing that Australia consists
of many diverse cultures and that immigrants have changed the lifestyle in Australia.
Lastly, most, if not all of Australia s national holidays and festivals, have come from diverse cultures.
Six of the main festivals celebrated in Australia are Chinese New Year, Oz Asia festivals, Christmas
pageant, Brisbane s French Experience, St Patrick s Day, and Australia Day. Quite frankly not one of
those festivals can teach someone a single thing about Australian culture but rather other cultures. Out

Failure Of Protect Laws And Their Harmful Effects On...
Failure to Protect Laws and their Harmful Effects on Abused Mothers Violence against women has
been, and continues to be, a problem in the United States. Domestic violence especially is a large part
of today s society. It accounts for 21% of all violent crime (Truman Morgan, 2014), and one in three
women have experienced physical violence at the hands of an intimate partner in their lifetime
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010). Three women lose their lives to domestic
violence every day (Lee, 2015). While domestic violence also affects many men, the prevalence of
female victims is much higher. It is not anywhere near a novel problem in society, yet it is not even
close to being solved. Steps have been made, though, to aid women in their escape from these
unhealthy relationships. There are multiple hotlines at national and local levels, where woman can call
in anonymously and report the violence they are experiencing or those close to victims can report
violence they suspect or know to be happening. There are safe houses and shelters all over the country
that will take women and children in if and when they finally do get out. There are several national
organizations, such as the Family Violence Prevention Fund, the National Coalition Against Domestic
Violence, and the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, that are dedicated to raising
awareness and ending domestic abuse. Legislation has even been enacted to create harsher

Polysomnography Study
EMG The equipment that is needed to perform polysomnography is divided over certain sections of
the human body that need to be measured at the same time. The electromyography or EMG is an
electro diagnostic technique that records the electrical activity created by various skeletal muscles.
The signals that are going to be analyzed are detections of the activation levels of the different
muscles groups. An example for usage of an electromyography during polysomnography is the
detection of chin movement to ascertain the level of muscle tone, which is correlated with the
fluctuation of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep and sleep onset. It can also provide us with
information about the patients movement in general. In certain situations when constant monitoring of
the patient is not entirely possible there is also the option to adhere said EMG sensors to the limbs to

Insulin In The Pancreas
When a person s body becomes immune to insulin or when the pancreas stops making insulin that s
when it progresses. No one really knows the cause, but genetics and environmental factors, such as
excess weight and inactivity, appear to provide a part in it. Insulin is a hormone that comes from the
pancreas.18 When the pancreas produces insulin it goes into bloodstream. So when insulin moves
around it lets sugar go into the cells. Then insulin lowers the quantity of sugar into the bloodstream.
When the blood sugar level trickles so does the production of insulin in the pancreas.18
Now glucose is the primary source of energy for the cells that form the muscles and other tissues.18
Glucose comes from the food you eat and your liver. With the assistance of insulin glucose is drawn
into the bloodstream. Fact: the liver stores and makes glucose so when the glucose levels are low like

Experience, Perceive And Interact With The Sites Through...
As the principal question is to examine how we experience, perceive and interact with the site through
our senses and body, in this section I present excerpts from the interview transcripts which are then
analysed to obtain an understanding of sensory qualities of the site. In any site dance, it is not only the
performers who are interrogating space through movements, but it also extends to an audience who
experiences it. For a better structuring, I have divided this section into two parts: the first part focuses
on how the dancers engage to depict the site through various sensory receptors and the latter part
discusses the multiple constructions of the sites through the viewers sensuous subjectivity. Through
these sections I endeavour to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Dusk the performance is designed imaginatively to retrace the histories of the place and to
acknowledge the land (as evidenced in set of movement vocabularies built upon bhumi namaskar),
agreed by Harrison and Subramaniam. Both Subramaniam and Harrison s narratives contained
abundant tactile metaphors about having contacts with grass underfoot (Fig 5.5.1.1). Subramaniam
informed me that: We had choreographed and rehearsed in a studio, so the texture of the grass made it
difficult to move initially (Facebook interview, April 29, 2013).
From the transcription I found that the dancers variously depicted the site as: soft , resistant , hard ,
uneven (texture), huge , small , magnanimous (size), airy , fresh , stuffy (olfactory), illuminated , dark
(visibility) and sacred (belief). As most of the dance artists and dancers agreed that it was meant to pay
tribute to the site, I narrow down my discussion to the concept of sacredness drawing on a set of three
selected photos and narratives. Subramaniam said that: The stones felt sacred, each was feeling like a
deity with personality and compassion. We were blessed with extraordinarily good weather and the
sun provided perfect lighting (Facebook interview, April 29, 2013). Dusk expands the concept of
sacredness through cultural and religious appropriations. In Fig 5.5.1.1 the proximate vicinity of the
stones forces the dancers to experience them as skin. Their gorgeous silk

Edward Theodore Gein
Edward Theodore Gein America s Most Infamous Murderer
Although tallying just two deaths, Ed Gein is one of America s most infamous murderers. His
notorious killings are remembered as being among the most perverse of any this century. His lunatic
atrocities were magnified by the number of victims who fell prey to his sick deeds and who also
fueled his numerous habits of cannibalism, necrophilia of women, and his obsession with the female
body, especially his mother, Augusta Gein. Although clearly guilty for the acts Gein committed,
psychiatrists were confident in their conclusion of his insanity. As is in many cases, Gein s birth of
insanity started in childhood.

In 1914 disgusted by the depravity (Taylor) of the town she decided to move the family to a 195 acre
farm deep in rural Wisconsin, where the family lived quietly for about 25 years. In 1940 George Gein
died, leaving Augusta with Henry, 38 and Ed, 34 who worked as handymen in nearby Plainfield to pay
the household bills. Henry would frequently bad mouth his mother within earshot of Ed, who
remained a stalwart devotee of the matriarch (Schechter 32). In May 1944 a fire broke out in the brush
near the Geins farm. When the fire department turned up, Ed said his brother was missing but he led
them directly to the spot where Henry lay, covered in soot. The police chose to ignore two marks on
the back of his head and put Henry s death down to him being asphyxiated by fumes as he fought the
fire. Whether Ed had anything to do with his brother s death remains a mystery to this day.
For a year Ed and his mother lived alone together in the big old farmhouse. While her health
deteriorated, Ed was ecstatic that he finally had his mother to himself; sometimes they would even
sleep in the same bed together. So when Augusta developed cancer and died on December 29, 1945
after a series of strokes Ed was devastated, and became increasingly deranged after her death. Gein

Dr. Indrani Bose s Seminar, “Using RNA Interference to...
On Friday, January 31, 2014 Dr. Indrani Bose gave a seminar about her area of research, and discussed
her research objectives. The title of the seminar was Using RNA Interference to Understand the
Virulence and Biology of the Yeast Cryptococcus neoformans . At the beginning, she first compared
and contrasted the budding yeasts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Cryptococcus neoformans.
According to Dr. Bose in the mini review, A Yeast under Cover: the Capsule of Cryptococcus
Neoformans, C. neoformans is a fungus that is ubiquitous in the environment, where it is found in soil,
in association with certain trees, and in bird guano (16) (1). She also stated because of its ubiquity, that
most people had probably been exposed to it from a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Bose stated that her long term goal is to discover better drugs to eradicate this disease from developing
in humans. She intends to do this by identifying the genes that are involved in the disease process, and
assessing their function. From that point she will attempt to discover or design drugs to inhibit these
genes from functioning. There are several factors that affect the virulence of Cryptococcus
neoformans; from its polysaccharide capsule, to its ability to grow at high temperatures, and its
formation of melanin. The last two factors are absolutely necessary to the pathogenicity of the fungi
(1).
The Dr. Bose discussed RNA Interference. She said that RNA Interference is used as a tool for
forward genetics , and that it selectively destroys specific mRNAs, which in turn creates knock down
phenotypes. Forward genetics is the random inactivation of 1 2 genes at a time, allowing for
selectivity of the phenotype. At this point, she began to describe the results from running RNA
interference on the Cryptococcus neoformans genome. She discovered that there was too much
expression of ADE 2, so she developed a stable marker, URA 5. The URA 5 selected for robust RNA
Interference. She discovered that the cells that did well with URA 5 would survive treatment with 5
fluororotic acid, and the cells that did poorly with URA 5 would not survive the treatment. She also
determined that silencing was RDP1 dependent. RDP1 is a wild type gene.

Interpersonal Communication And Conflict Resolution
Literature Review
I have read, evaluated, examined and summarised the main secondary research resources that helped
me understand my interpersonal communication topic, Conflict Management, and how theories,
relevant skills and strategies can play a big role throughout the resolution and frequency of conflict
among my peers.
Personality Types and Development of Adolescents Conflict with Friends
This study aimed to examine the developmental pattern of adolescents conflict frequency and conflict
resolution with their best friends, and differences in these developmental changes between individuals
with different personality types. According to the Dual Concern model individuals utilization of
conflict resolution depends on the level of concern for oneself versus others. Specifically,
collaboration occurs when there is high concern for both oneself and others. This strategy is
characterized by positive conflict resolution behaviours such as negotiation and compromise.
Accommodation takes place when there is high concern for others, but low concern for oneself. This
strategy is characterized by high levels of compliance. A controlling resolution strategy reflects a high
concern for oneself and low concern for others, and is characterized by negative affect, hostility, or
coercive behaviour. In addition, a non confrontational strategy, which involves reducing the
importance of conflict and attempting to suppress thinking about conflict, represents a low concern for

Iraqi forces deliberately opened valves at the Sea Island oil terminal and dumped oil from a few
tankers into the Persian Gulf in a key wartime move against U.S. powers.
The U.S. blamed the Iraqis for submitting natural terrorism by deliberately spilling a few million
barrels of oil. Organization sources additionally remarked that a flammable strike could be done
against the spill, with an end goal to smolder oil before it came to key modern offices, including water

Through ineffective manipulation of structure, timbre and melody, Victor Lopez s short version of

once said with reference to the album this piece was released on, My vocation is more in composition

The introduction starts with every instrument playing and an attempted take off of the chorus,
contrasting the idea of one melody growing in Led Zeppelin s version. The arranged variation begins
in E flat major and modulates to D major. There is no clear melody evident at all throughout the piece,
as the number of instruments playing at similar volumes, makes it hard to determine. Ornamentation is
also a key musical flourish in the original, that lacks in Victor Lopez s version, as there is no guitar
and therefore none of the brilliant guitar techniques mentioned above, to make the music come alive
and become more than just notes on a page.
The timbre or characteristic quality of sound displays a great difference when comparing the jazz
arrangement of Stairway to Heaven to the original. Jimmy Page manipulates his guitar as the main
sound source with such brilliance, using a variety of methods such as pull offs, vibrato, hammer ons,
bends and slides (see Figure 2). The guitar is the central instrument and is held responsible for the
individuality and vividness of the piece as it holds the majority of the melody, and in particular brings
out the contrast during the bridge and solo (5:35). The entire piece depends on the guitar as it
continues to play throughout the whole song and is accountable for the most complex part, portraying
the creativity and ingeniousness of Stairway to

Baby Rohan Jameson Ramjit Is Growing Healthy As Ever
3rd Trimester, 31 weeks and 4 days, Baby Rohan Jameson Ramjit is growing healthy as ever. During
these past 7 months, I have gained so much love for someone I have never met before. Being 24 years
old and becoming a mother has changed my views on life. Learning so much about caring for a
newborn has brought on the thought of bottle feeding or breast feeding and trying to figure out which
one is safer for his health. Children enter this world helpless, trying to understand their new
environment and learning their new touch. Infants depend on the caring individuals around them,
especially their mothers, to help them in their first few days of life to figure out the new aspect of life.
It is the obligation of the parents to take care and nurture their newborn. Parents are to deliver for their
children both through emotional needs as well as survival needs.
One thing about caring for a newborn is needing to be fed through the means of milk. Formula bottle
feeding or milk from the breast is a decision made by the mother and father over doing their research
of the health of their child. As stated in Nancy E. Wright s article on the progression of breastfeeding,
Aristotle said, There is a reason behind everything in nature. Certain incidences take place in nature
that has effects or consequences to them. Choosing to breastfeed is a decision that new mothers make
that requires sacrifice and hard work, yet has the prospective to be a very healthy food nutrient for
infants.

Essay Islamic Science in the Medieval Era
There are many terms used to describe the period after the fall of Rome and before the Renaissance,
three main terms being the Middle, Medieval, and Dark Ages. In general, these terms are used
interchangeably, but are these fair substitutions? In recent years the term Dark Ages is becoming less
and less acceptable as a phrase which describes the span of years it is meant to refer to. The use of the
term dark implies a period of stagnation, which is becoming a questionable concept. In particular, the
span of time referred to in this paper is 530 1452 BCE, with specific attention paid to the scientific
discoveries and innovations rather than art or literature. These dates are significant because in 529 the

One might assert that the ideas of Islamic science during this period were not of value because if the
innovations were so great, and the halt of progress in Europe was so encompassing, a knowledge
vacuum would have been created, and the ideas would have poured into the knowledge starved areas.
Further more, Europeans would expand outward to the Middle East in search of new found knowledge
due to the stagnation present in Europe. However, this is not the case, so therefore it is logical to
assume that the knowledge in the Middle East was not that significant. In opposition, I would assert
that major scientific innovation in some area in the world during a given time period is enough to
remove the negative connotation of dark . The scientific discoveries do not have to be world wide.
Furthermore, the reason there was no spread of knowledge to Europe during this time was due to the
isolation of the two very different cultures from one another, not the insignificance of Islamic ideas.
The language barrier alone would be enough to interfere with natural flow of technology. Translations
of texts and therefore ideas takes time, and any cooperation between these two groups prior to the
tenth century would be halted for hundreds of years by the Crusades. Also, the church s relationship
with young men not only occupied them thereby inhibiting their thought, but also their exploration,
explaining the lack of European pro activity in

The Gender Pay Gap
The Equal Pay Act of 1963, established during the Kennedy administration, promised the people equal
pay for equal work. Since then, the gender wage gap has been narrowing every year, but it still does
exist in the United States. The gender wage gap is the difference between what women get paid and
what men get paid for doing the same job. The discrimination subject on gender salaries earned by
women have continued to be a complicated matter. It has turned into an issue which combines our
business economics and social culture. As time has slowly progressed, women now make on average
79 cents for every dollar men make. Shockingly, only a 20 cent increase over the last 54 years. At this
rate, per the Institute of Women s Policy Research, it could take a full 45 years before this gender
inequality disappears. One of the main issues why women are paid less than their male counterparts is
simple, because they are women. Discrimination and stereotyping is the most common argument used
to explain the gender pay gap. There have been numerous research studies that compared to men, are
less likely to be hired and especially for high paying jobs. They unfortunately are offered a much
lower salary. For example, a recent experiment revealed that when a group of science professors were
presented with identical resumes, one with the name John and the other Jennifer, they offered the male
applicant for a lab manager position a salary nearly $4,000 more (NWLC). The professors

Charles Darwin s Principle Of Natural Selection
Darwin s Theories
Variation
How individuals of the same species vary? This was a key question for Darwin to develop his theory.
He notices this variability of individuals during the Beagle Voyage, yet, he comprehend the
importance of variability and the vital importance for natural selection, by working on crustaceous,
domestic plants and animals.
Darwin argued that, the population of any specie , at a specific time in evolution, includes individuals
of varying characteristics and ensure that, The next generation of that population will contain
characteristics of those individuals that most successfully survive and reproduce under the existing
environmental conditions. However, this characteristics of various types within the species will
change or evolve over the time. This theory is based in 3 principles:
Principle of variation. morphology, physiology, and behavior are features that any individual in any
population will show.
Principle of heredity. Individuals may carry features or characteristics of their antecessors..
Principle of selection. Some individuals are more successful at surviving and reproducing than others
under the existing environment.

Blood Glucose Levels
Blood Glucose Levels
Purpose of Homeostatic System
Homeostasis refers to the ability of the body being able to seek and maintain a constant condition of
equilibrium or stability within their internal environment when it must deal with external changes
(fluctuations in their environment.) External influences may include exposure to extreme
environmental conditions, disease or infection. Internal influences may include genetic conditions or
metabolic disorders.
Components of The System
The stimulus, receptor, control centre, effector and variable are all key components of the Homeostatic
System.
High Blood Glucose Levels
The stimulus is a detectable change in the internal or external environment in particular for high blood
glucose levels this may be when person consumes a carbohydrate rich meal, therefore the blood
glucose level will rise. The variable is the amount of glucose in blood ( 5mM) The set point is the
target value of the controlled variable ie. The optimum amount of glucose in blood where cells will
work optimally and the best conditions for the chemical reactions inside cell eg. Making ATP

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg in Austria, the son of
Leopold, Kapellmeister to the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg. By the age of three he could play the

understanding of form. Mozart s elder sister Maria Anna (best known as Nannerl) was also a gifted
keyboard player, and in 1762 their father took the two prodigies on a short performing tour, of the
courts at Vienna and Munich. Encouraged by their reception, they embarked the next year on a longer

than his predecessor had been, but the composer nonetheless produced some of his earliest
masterpieces. The famous Sinfonia concertante for violin, violo and orchestra was written in 1780,
and the following year Mozart s first great stage work, the opera Idomeneo, was produced in Munich,
where Mozart also wrote his Serenade for 13 wind instruments, K361. On his return from Munich,
however, the hostility brewing between him and the archbishop came to a head, and Mozart resigned.
On delivering his resignation he was verbally abused and eventually, physically ejected from the
archbishop s residence. Without patronage, Mozart was forced to confront the perils of a freelance
existence. Initially his efforts met with some success. He took up residence in Vienna and in 1782 his
opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The abdication from the Seraglio) was produced in the city and
rapturously received. The same year in Vienna s St Stephen s Cathedral Mozart married Constanze
Weber. Soon afterwards he initiated a series of subscription concerts at which he performed his piano

Vladimir and Estragon expressing several times the desire to leave, to stop waiting for Godot, they

Due to Mexico´s historical background with Spain, Mexico´s legal system comes from the Civil Law
Tradition. Also, different law systems such as the Roman, canon, and medieval commercial, also had
some sort of influence on the formation of Mexico´s legal system.
The laws are approved or rejected by the judicial power. The judicial branch also has the right to
impose taxes, declare war, approve the national budget, and approve or reject treaties with foreign
countries. Such decisions are based on the principles found in the Federal Constitution, the most
important political document in which the Mexican law had its origins. The Mexican constitution was
established in 1917 and dictates a federal, democratic, representative Republic composed of free and
sovereign states (ref 12). The constitution also established a centralized federal government and
individual state governments who ought to be a support system for the federal

The Grapes of Wrath
Fear, Hostility, and Exploitation in Chapter 21 of The Grapes of Wrath
Steinbeck s intercalary chapters in The Grapes of Wrath have nothing to do with the Joads or other
characters of the novel, but help describe the story in different terms. They are similar to poems,
offering different viewpoints of the migration, and clarifying parts of the story that the reader might
not understand. An excellent example of this use can be seen in chapter 21, where an examination of
the attitudes of migrant Okies and the residents of California reveals the changing nature of land
ownership among the changing population of California and gives greater meaning to the fierce
hostility that the Joads meet in California.
The first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They suffer the anguish of losing their farms and their homes, of being forced to move endlessly and
painfully in search of work on someone else s land. The anguish caused by sudden change in land
ownership is a major aspect of the novel.
The next section of chapter 21 offers an explanation of the hostility that the migrants meet upon
arrival in California. Steinbeck describes:
Men of property were terrified for their property. Men who had never been hungry saw the eyes of the
hungry. Men who had never wanted anything very much saw the flare of want in the eyes of the
migrants. And the men of the towns and of the soft suburban country gathered to defend themselves;
and they reassured themselves that they were good and the invaders bad, as a man must do before he
fights.
The mild people of California find in the Okies what they have yet to experience fear and desperation.
Sensing the extent to which the migrants are willing to work, the locals begin to fear for their own
jobs, and most importantly, for their own property. In fearful defense, they attack the Okies as
marauders who mean to destroy both populations through their desperation. This fear transforms into
hostility, which reveals itself in the story through the deputies and managers who abuse and assault the
Joads, as well as other migrant families in the workers

The Issue Concerning Child Soldiers During The Democratic...
Maeve Hiehle
The issue concerning child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a very widespread
problem throughout the country as a whole. Child soldiers in all countries are a problem because of
the inhumane treatment of children, but the situation is especially bad in the Democratic Republic of
the Congo because of the amount of it and the lack of action taken to stop it. Though the government
has signed contracts of sorts stating they will take action against this unlawful behavior, they have
barely done anything. As a result of this, children are still being recruited and killed because of their
affiliation with armed groups. In certain cases the government and its organizations are being held
responsible for forms of child soldiering. Child soldiering in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is
a problem that must be stopped soon.
Child soldiering is ultimately stated as follows: hundreds of children across the Democratic Republic
of Congo are being forced into military and other groups as child soldiers. In 2015, 488 children were
documented by the UN as new recruits. Out of these 488 new recruits, 26 were girls and 30 percent
were under the age of 15 (Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for children
and armed conflict, 2016). Children are pulled in for multiple reasons, and then rise up to ranks of
commanders and sergeants at young ages. For example, one boy was ordered into the military at age
seven by his uncle, a powerful

William Shakespeare s Hamlet And Franco Zeffireli s Film...
William Shakespeare s Hamlet and Franco Zeffireli s film version of the story are different in many
ways, but the basic characters and basic plot remain the same. Franco Zeffirelli s screenplay is an
edited, re vamped version of the original tragedy in which lines are cut and scenes are modified.
Additionally, Zeffirelli modifies Shakespeare s ghost scenes and uses narrative and film techniques to
both create an overall suspenseful atmosphere and generate empathetic feelings towards Hamlet. The
various changes made by Zeffirelli are interesting, and attempting to analyze the decisions made by
the film director allowed for not only a deeper understanding of the film, but of the story Hamlet in
general. In Act One of the play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In act one, scene one, line 28, the guards state that they have seen something frightening: What, has
this thing appeared again tonight? (1.1.28). It is here that the audience is able to witness the ghosts,
particularly when one guard says, Look where it comes again (1.1.49). The ghosts now appear on
stage. Horatio, a man of logic and reason, is also scared and admits that, It harrows me with fear and
wonder, thereby allowing the audience to learn that the former king, father of Hamlet, is dead. There is
a ghost clothed in his armor strolling the castle s battlements all through the night. The barricades in
the ghost scene of the film are foggy, filled with moonlight, and dark. The setting gives the scene an
even eerier feel, giving the viewer the idea that what is about to take place could be frightening,
suspenseful, or spooky in some way. The icy clouds of breath hovering throughout the shot chill the
viewer. The sky is empty, creating an isolated feeling. It is obvious that this scene takes place at night,
when the ghosts are able to freely roam; however, the background lighting indicates that day is
approaching, and that the ghost will soon have to return to wherever it stays during the day.
In the film, the ghosts do not appear as soon as they do in the play. Instead, Zeffirelli rearranges the
order of some of the scenes. Occasionally, he even adds scenes that were not present in Shakespeare s
play. The first scene of the film is the king s funeral a

Discipline is Not Abuse Essay
Many people today are getting arrested for simply disciplining a child. But, in older times disciplining
a child set good moral standards and taught that child on what that child was supposed to do and what
not to do. There is a fine line between abuse and discipline. So what is child abuse? Child abuse
consists of any act of commission or omission that endangers or impairs a child s physical or
emotional health and development. Child abuse includes any damage done to a child which cannot be
reasonably explained and which is often represented by an injury or series of injuries appearing to be
non accidental in nature. There are also different kinds of child abuse; which include physical,
emotional, and sexual. But, discipline does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a very effective way to discipline a child because this helps that child be a responsible family
member and citizen of the society (Bugwadia).
Discipline also leads to more respect from the child. When children are disciplined at home, those
children tend to be respectful towards others. Those children say respectful things like good morning,
please, thank you, etc. Also, discipline instills appropriate behavior. When a parent disciplines their
child for poor behavior, he or she learns about what behavior is acceptable. According to an article in
the journal Pediatrics and Child Health, Discipline can foster appropriate behavior in children,
teaching them how to interact with others, when to postpone pleasure and how to tolerate discomfort
(Carpenter). With effective child discipline, that child will be respectful his or her whole life. For
example, if a child borrows something from their parents, the parents car or jacket, and doesn t return
it either with a full tank or washed, than next time when they ask, the answer will be no. Next time
around they are going to respect the parents and the parents things if that child wants access to the
parents belongings, they are going to return it the way they found it (Radzka).
Discipline also builds a healthy relationship between the child and the parents. Children need to feel a
sense of security at home. In a secure home environment, a child feels protected and is

Ponyboy Character Analysis
Sometimes people judge a book by its cover. Ponyboy from The Outsiders was a person that was
judged by many people. He is in a gang, they call themselves the greasers. They are poorer than the
Socs and the middle class. When people see them they immediately think, dirty troublemakers but
they are more like a group of friends hanging out. They are like one big family and very few of them
from the gang actually start trouble. Being that Ponyboy is a greaser, people think that he is a
troublemaker and a bad person but that is not the case. Ponyboy is a unique young man that does not
start trouble and does not like fighting. He is also a very good friend. I can say that I am most like him
because I find that we have very many things in common when it comes to identity and personality.
He is a nice person who s smart in school and that is what sets him apart from the rest of his gang.
Although he may not think properly when he s out of school and it leads him to trouble, he still keeps
his good grades and respect towards others.
Ponyboy is a very good friend. He has a friend named Johnny who is also a greaser. Johnny is going
through so much throughout the story. He runs away from his home because he heard his mother and
father fighting like they always do. He goes to the park and he says, I can t take much more. I ll kill
myself or something. Johnny hated that his parents fought so much and he didn t want to be around it.
His parents were neglectful and abusive, both

Dr Strangelove Analysis
The movie Dr. Strangelove is a comedic movie but the issius it brings to light were very serious at the
time and issues concerning nuclear war are still very present in our lives today. The cold war was a
scary time for the world people and it s speculated to be the closest humankind has ever come to
becoming obsolete. There was lots of fear and suspension expression in the movie and that was similar
to how it was in real life during the cold war. Although there are some ridiculous aspects of the film
Dr. Strangelove it underlines something that could have happened extremely easily during this time. In
Dr. Strangelove the world is at the brink of becoming completely decimated by the USSR s and the
United states nuclear arsenals. When watching the movie you may find some parts of it ridiculous but
most of the movie is accurate to what was going on in our military and government at this time just
made more dramatic. At this time the lives of millions were in the hands of just a few men high up in
the military and government. Any wrong action or statement by them could end up starting a nuclear
war. It s not crazy to think that one rouge commander under all the stress and suspicion going on from
the red scare would order an attack on the USSR during this time. There was a lot of conspiracies
going around about communist schemes to infect the united states such as the one that putting fluoride
in the water was a way the communists were attacking the USA. With conspiracies

  • 2. Sign Language Analysis 1. Introduction Language is more than the knowledge and use of words, both in speech and in text; it is a cultural identity, a signifier of status, a means of personal expression. Language enables people to share their thoughts and needs, establish a dialogue with each other and work together. Language is not just confined to the worlds of speech and printed text, there are many ways in which people are able to communicate such as Australian Sign Language, Braille, cultural skills, customs and art (Emmitt, Pollock Komesaroff, 2010, p. 52). Aboriginal dreamtime paintings are an example of language as art, a skill passed down through thousands of generations, with different symbols that have ascribed meanings and are used in an artwork to tell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This juxtaposition of cultural identities is especially apparent in schools where children arrive with their already learned cultural language and are often expected by their educators and peers to learn and use standard Australian English. In early childhood, language is the primary tool with which children learn cultural knowledge, norms and skills (Gee, 2011, p. 16), strongly informing their cultural identity. Children who are bilingual, or multilingual, often demonstrate enhanced language skills gained from their ability to switch between languages (Adoniou, 2014; Fellowes et al., 2014, p. 39), but these children are not always understood and supported. When educators dismiss the languages of students who speak English variants or languages other than English at home, they risk underestimating and disempowering those students (Adoniou, 2014; Caruso, 1997, p. 93). It is vital that instead of requiring students to assimilate, to learn and to use the language register of the school or classroom, educators should be supporting students for whom English is not a first language, or who speak an English variant (Pandey, 2012, p. 388). Educators should be valuing the qualities, abilities and strengths these students bring to the classroom (Emmitt et al., 2010, p. 53), as well as educating their monolingual students about ... He led a typical American life. He grew up in a rural town just outside of Buffalo and he was neighborly, an all American. His beliefs were never strange or confined to the fringes of American society. In fact, the fear of outsiders and the need to bear arms is something that recurs throughout American history, from the eras of the Ku Klux Klan to the period of McCarthyism. The largest difference between the man that drove that car into a federal building and the majority of Americans is that he was prepared to shed blood to defend liberty. It was at the age of thirteen, that Eddie McVeigh gifted McVeigh with a .22 caliber rifle, the first of many firearms Tim would own (American Terrorist, 2001). Timothy s childhood experiences, his severe interest in guns and his skills of preparation, are all seemingly innocent actions of a child (. However, in retrospect, it is easy to recognize the dexterities and ideals that were forming at such a young age. In the book, American Terrorist, the authors interviewed McVeigh extensively, and it was in this book that McVeigh publicly admitted to his acts and demonstrated his reasoning. In 1995, McVeigh detonated a truck bomb in front of a federal building in Oklahoma City. The attack is known as the most noteworthy act of domestic terrorism in American History. McVeigh was a Gulf War veteran who pursued retribution against the U.S. government for their management of the Waco Siege in 1993 and the Ruby Ridge incident in 1992. He had hoped to inspire a revolt against the government. When in court, McVeigh inculcated that his lawyers use the necessity defense, yet since his lawyers would have to prove that he was in imminent danger from the government; it ended up not happening (Jo, 1997). In fact, McVeigh did not receive the trial he wanted. His lawyers would have to argue that his bombing of the Murrah building was a justifiable response to what McVeigh believed were the crimes of the U.S. government in Waco, Texas (Jo, 1997). ... • 6. The Civil Rights Movement And The African American Freedom... However, Soundtrack For A Revolution only shows half of what the Civil Rights Movement is about. This documentary fails to show the Armed resistance aspect of the African American Freedom struggle. As the documentary shows the nonviolent part of the Civil Rights Movement it leaves out how important the role of armed resistance was in the African American freedom struggle. It unsuccessfully shows how armed resistance made the Civil Rights Movement possible and protected many civil rights leaders such a Martin Luther King. Soundtrack For A Revolution does not demonstrate how gun owners protected institutions of the movement like churches and freedom house nor does it explain how nonviolent protesters would ve been driven out of town without armed resistance. Armed resistance was a vital part of the Civil Rights Movement and the failure to include it in the documentary does not accurately represent the African American freedom struggle. While on the subject of nonviolence, Soundtrack For A Revolution also does a good job in utilizing many important civil rights activists who were apart of the nonviolent movement, some of which are SCLC and SCLC members, John Lewis, and Martin Luther King. Although conversely, the film exhibits the myth of the Civil Rights Movement being King Centric. The documentary focuses on many facts of Martin Luther King s life including, his involvement in Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), his view on nonviolence, the bombing of his house, ... The real question is still pending, is it much easier for African American during the pre Civil Rights Movement Era that now? My opinion is that it is better. For some, this place is high up in the branches of a tree, where they can touch the sky with outstretched fingertips and feign a lack of attachment to the busy world lying below. For others, this sacred place might be found in a place as close and accessible as a cubbyhole in their own home. For others still, it might be in a library, or on a quiet mountaintop, the hard pews of a church building, or even a person. I myself have found my haven to be far away and, for now, out of my reach, in a city called Wilmington in North Carolina. It is the seventh or eighth largest city in the state, but the downtown area isn t too busy to relax and breathe in the fresh air drifting from the beach only a few miles away. It is peaceful and serene, but still bustling with just the right amount of life and activity to be always uplifting, and flawless in its own way. My family used to visit there once a year for about a week in the summer. We would go camping and spend the majority of our time frequenting the beach. Back then I was tiny, but even now I know I would be overwhelmed by the vast space of the sky opened up over me, blue and deep in a reflection of the water below it. Durkheim provides understanding of the societal conditions that contribute to increased rates of suicide within various types of cultural and religious groups. The believe of suicide bombers that their contribution to their group by killing others or taking their own lives will bring change into the society could be viewed as an egoistic act. However, their acts of committing those actions as a part of a group is an act of altruism. Since an individual s tie with his or her society is broken, he or she starts to believe that they are free from social expectations and they are free to act against the society in order to reform it. Egoistic beliefs made the suicide bombers feel as they are isolated from their own society and they don t hesitate to take a action for themselves. Therefore, deciding to become a suicide bomber is part of egoistic belief where committing the attack to please a group deals with the altruistic aspect of suicide bombing. Accordingly, the idea of suicide bombing can be categorized as both egoistic and altruistic suicide. There were many times when the egoistic and altruistic aspect of suicide overlapped ideas of one another. The Representation of the People Act allowed women, over the age of 30, in Great Britain to vote for the first time in 1918. Previously, women had been viewed as uneducated and irrational, unable to make a decision on who to vote for themselves. Women had also been expected to stay at home, looking after children, cooking, and cleaning, for when their husbands returned. However, many women had grown tired of this and wanted the right to vote as a way of voicing their opinions and so that they could get even more equality for women across Britain. This docile way of campaigning impressed many men as it did not outstep the boundaries that women were restricted to throughout and just following the Victorian times, however it showed that women were intelligent enough to organise a campaign that grew a rather large support. They gained a lot of respect through this way of campaigning with even the future Prime Minister David Lloyd George announcing his support for them publicly. However, this way of campaigning could be argued as easily ignored as although the Suffragists had gained some support from members of Parliament; there was no real political progress towards women gaining the vote before 1914, despite them having been campaigning for almost twenty years. Failure to Protect Laws and their Harmful Effects on Abused Mothers Violence against women has been, and continues to be, a problem in the United States. Domestic violence especially is a large part of today s society. She intends to do this by identifying the genes that are involved in the disease process, and assessing their function. There are several factors that affect the virulence of Cryptococcus neoformans; from its polysaccharide capsule, to its ability to grow at high temperatures, and its formation of melanin. The last two factors are absolutely necessary to the pathogenicity of the fungi (1). The Dr. Bose discussed RNA Interference. She said that RNA Interference is used as a tool for forward genetics , and that it selectively destroys specific mRNAs, which in turn creates knock down phenotypes. Forward genetics is the random inactivation of 1 2 genes at a time, allowing for selectivity of the phenotype. At this point, she began to describe the results from running RNA interference on the Cryptococcus neoformans genome. She discovered that the cells that did well with URA 5 would survive treatment with 5 fluororotic acid, and the cells that did poorly with URA 5 would not survive the treatment. Jimmy Page, lead guitarist of hard rock band Led Zeppelin, and composer of Stairway to Heaven, once said with reference to the album this piece was released on, My vocation is more in composition really than anything else building up harmonies using the guitar, orchestrating the guitar like an army, a guitar army . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The introduction starts with every instrument playing and an attempted take off of the chorus, contrasting the idea of one melody growing in Led Zeppelin s version. The arranged variation begins in E flat major and modulates to D major. There is no clear melody evident at all throughout the piece, as the number of instruments playing at similar volumes, makes it hard to determine. Ornamentation is also a key musical flourish in the original, that lacks in Victor Lopez s version, as there is no guitar and therefore none of the brilliant guitar techniques mentioned above, to make the music come alive and become more than just notes on a page. The timbre or characteristic quality of sound displays a great difference when comparing the jazz arrangement of Stairway to Heaven to the original. Jimmy Page manipulates his guitar as the main sound source with such brilliance, using a variety of methods such as pull offs, vibrato, hammer ons, bends and slides (see Figure 2). The guitar is the central instrument and is held responsible for the individuality and vividness of the piece as it holds the majority of the melody, and in particular brings out the contrast during the bridge and solo (5:35). Essay Islamic Science in the Medieval Era There are many terms used to describe the period after the fall of Rome and before the Renaissance, three main terms being the Middle, Medieval, and Dark Ages. In general, these terms are used interchangeably, but are these fair substitutions? In recent years the term Dark Ages is becoming less and less acceptable as a phrase which describes the span of years it is meant to refer to. The use of the term dark implies a period of stagnation, which is becoming a questionable concept. In particular, the span of time referred to in this paper is 530 1452 BCE, with specific attention paid to the scientific discoveries and innovations rather than art or literature. One might assert that the ideas of Islamic science during this period were not of value because if the innovations were so great, and the halt of progress in Europe was so encompassing, a knowledge vacuum would have been created, and the ideas would have poured into the knowledge starved areas. Further more, Europeans would expand outward to the Middle East in search of new found knowledge due to the stagnation present in Europe. However, this is not the case, so therefore it is logical to assume that the knowledge in the Middle East was not that significant. In opposition, I would assert that major scientific innovation in some area in the world during a given time period is enough to remove the negative connotation of dark . The scientific discoveries do not have to be world wide. Furthermore, the reason there was no spread of knowledge to Europe during this time was due to the isolation of the two very different cultures from one another, not the insignificance of Islamic ideas. The language barrier alone would be enough to interfere with natural flow of technology. Translations of texts and therefore ideas takes time, and any cooperation between these two groups prior to the tenth century would be halted for hundreds of years by the Crusades. Since then, the gender wage gap has been narrowing every year, but it still does exist in the United States. The gender wage gap is the difference between what women get paid and what men get paid for doing the same job. The discrimination subject on gender salaries earned by women have continued to be a complicated matter. It has turned into an issue which combines our business economics and social culture. As time has slowly progressed, women now make on average 79 cents for every dollar men make. Shockingly, only a 20 cent increase over the last 54 years. At this rate, per the Institute of Women s Policy Research, it could take a full 45 years before this gender inequality disappears. One of the main issues why women are paid less than their male counterparts is simple, because they are women. Discrimination and stereotyping is the most common argument used to explain the gender pay gap. There have been numerous research studies that compared to men, are less likely to be hired and especially for high paying jobs. They unfortunately are offered a much lower salary.
