Conflict, Man Vs. Society
Conflict In a story the conflict moves the plot making it one of the most important features. There are
four types of conflict, man vs. man, man vs. nature, man vs. society, and man vs. himself. In the short
story The Necklace the conflict would be described as man vs. himself, or man vs. society.
The first idea that supports that statement would be when the author introduces the main character,
Mathilde . He tells of how she is taunted about her shabby apartment for its dingy walls, worn out
furniture, and ugly drapes. This is not only an external conflict of man vs. society, but it fuels the
internal conflict. Mathilde thinks she deserves a better life than what she has with more riches and
luxuries because of her beauty and charm. She is also resentful of her husband not being any higher
class This is an internal conflict because Mathilde is not satisfied with her life and cannot accept how
it is. This conflict giving the readers an explanation of Mathilde and the story s first problem. The
second idea supporting the conflict being man vs. himself or man vs. society, is when Mathilde s
husband invites her to a ball. He thought it would make her delighted, but instead she is sad everyone
will show up beautifully dressed, while she does not even have an appropriate gown. This conflict is a
mixture of man vs. man, and man vs. society, because even though she is doubting herself of elegancy,
she is being persuaded by the fact of everyone else being dressed

The History Of Lewis And Clark
The History of Lewis and Clark In 1803, shortly after the Louisiana Purchase, Thomas Jefferson, our
third US President sent two men, U.S. Army Captain Meriwether Lewis and William Clark out to
explore the unexplored west and in search of a water route across North America, fulfilling the dreams
of Thomas Jefferson in sending explorers across the America. Thomas Jefferson chose Meriwether
Lewis who was previously his secretary to lead the expedition. Thus being chosen to lead the
expedition, William Clark volunteered to assist Lewis on the journey. Working together on the
upcoming journey, it is clear that both these men made a great dynamic duo, Lewis being the one with
the scientific knowledge such as studying soil, animals, rock formations and the geography of the new
uncharted land and Clark mapping the course traveled and having a great military background. Before,
getting started on the actual expedition of Lewis and Clark, both men had been preparing for their
journey since around the fall of 1803 by obtaining the skills necessary for the trip. Prior to the big trip,
Lewis went to Philadelphia to study and learn more about science and also get the equipment
necessary for the trip. The main items bought in Philadelphia were scientific related equipment,
medicines, food, blankets, equipment for tent making, books for referencing and studying on the trip
and journals. Furthermore, Lewis also had gotten gifts for the Indians, in case they ever ran into any,

Essay on Cause and Effects of Smallpox
Cause and Effects of Smallpox
Smallpox is caused by the variola virus that emerged in human populations thousands of years ago.
Smallpox is a specific, infectious, and highly contagious febrile disease known only to be transmitted
by humans. It is caused by a virus from air currents which are eventually passed on from person to
person. Smallpox varies from a mild form without skin manifestations to a highly fatal hemorrhagic
form. Edward Jenner, an English physician, discovered a means of preventing smallpox through
vaccination. Gradually mass vaccination programs were introduced in many parts of the world.
Smallpox was the first disease conquered by human beings and was eradicated by vaccination. The
last known cases of naturally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cause and Effects of Smallpox...2
Exposure to the virus is followed by an incubation period which people may not feel any sign of
symptoms. The incubation period can range between 7 to 17 days. People are not contagious during
this time period. After the incubation period, high fever, chills, severe headache and backache, and
general malaise begin to develop. Your body temperature can reach up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit.
After 2 to 4 days, a rash emerges first as small red spots on the tongue and in the mouth. The spots
develop into sores which spread large amounts of the virus into the mouth and throat. The person
becomes most contagious during this phase. Soon after, the smallpox rash appears on exposed portions
of the body: the face, forearms, wrists, palms, lower legs, feet, and soles. Usually the rash spreads to
all parts of the body within 24 hours.
As the rash appears, the fever usually falls and the person may start to feel better. The rash becomes
raised bumps on the third day of the rash. The bumps fill with a thick, opaque fluid and often have a
depression in the center that looks like a bellybutton. (CDC, 2004). This is a major distinguishing
characteristic of smallpox that occurs on the fourth day. Until scabs form over the bumps, fever often
will rise

Telehealth Occupational Therapy
With the world moving as fast a bullet train and instant gratification is in demand, the world of
therapy is rapidly changing. Technology is a nuisance to older generations but to today s generation it
is the only way to function. The therapy world s focus has always been about achieving the greatest
amount of functioning, but how does that relate to providing treatment across all ages? The answer
comes in many forms in relation to how to better service clients through the use of technology directly
and indirectly. One new implementation that benefits client services indirectly is a virtual knowledge
exchange service for occupational therapy practitioners. This service offers a knowledge brokering
exchange with practitioners globally without the airfare and conference cost. This program allows for

Core Functions of Case Management
The case management process consists of five parts: assessment, treatment planning, linking,
advocacy, and monitoring. It is not a linear process and does not follow the order it is written up.
There may be some back and forth and returning to certain points.
Screening
Contact between an addictions counsellor and a client is usually initiated by the client referring
him/her self, an outside agency refers them, family physician or the addictions counsellor initiates
contact through outreach or other agencies. Assessment can be seen as the beginning of treatment and
it becomes an opportunity to encourage the client to begin to move towards change. The initial
assessment involves a mutual investigation and exploration between the client ... Show more content

Although the main goal of the assessment is to refer clients to treatment, many clients refuse
treatment. However, they are willing to accept referrals to non addiction agencies to resolve problems
that have either been caused by addiction or that led to the problems. This assessment may be an
intervention that the client needs. You will want to use the appropriate research based screening tools
that may be applicable to the client s individual circumstances.
Treatment Planning
The treatment planning process helps the client select the level and intensity of treatment that works
best for them. When planning treatment the counsellor can consider preferences and the services
available. The treatment plan may change over time but it provides a focus for ongoing support. The
treatment plan comprises of two main functions, it allows for a negotiation between the client and
assessor for specific interventions to address the identified problems as well as allows them to develop
a manageable plan. It is important when negotiating with the client that the counsellor listens to what
the client wants and is capable of undertaking with agreement to implement. Each client is unique and
every treatment plan should also be tailored to meet his or her needs. The client must agree to all
aspects of the plan. The treatment involves four stages, prioritizing problem areas and exploring
options with the client, matching services available to the client s

The Criminal
In this case the killer or suspect states how he took the life of the old man. The suspect explains how
he stalked the old man, each night for a whole week. He also explains how he treated him, and how he
took care of him. Furthermore, he took the police straight to the victim s body. I am the prosecuting
attorney for the state in a case against a man accused of murder. The man is obviously guilty, but the
defense lawyers are going to try to prove, that their client is insane. We are going to prove that he is

his guilty, and that he is not insane. Because he could distinguish reality from fantasy. I know this

Examples Of Sustainable Development In Animal Farm
Animal Farm s Sustainable Development
Throughout the novella Animal Farm by George Orwell, Orwell mimics the reality of the Russian
Revolution in 1917 as an allegory that shows Animals on a Farm. Their goal is to create a sovereign/
independent community apart from the humans by initiating a rebellion. In the novella, this
community shows indicators of sustainable development or lack there of. Despite this, the animal farm
society has witnessed changes to their development. At first they seem to reflect the aims of a
sustainably developed society and then certain aspects prevented them from reaching sustainability.
Those changes include economic wealth such as how they sustained their resources and trade between
different partners, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The animal farm s political system and government first stood on dictatorship grounds by the one and
only dictator Mr. Jones. The animals were left treated with the poorest of care, until they carried out a
rebellion against Mr. Jones and all the humans at the farm that altered their government system. The
Rebellion had been successfully carried through; Jones was expelled and the Manor Farm was theirs
(Animal Farm, 14) where they followed the new system, a Democratic system with their new leaders
Snowball and Napoleon that obeyed the principles of Animalism to seven commandments. (Animal
Farm, 14). Up until this point, the animal farm is focusing on their newly built society to reach
sustainable development by stabilizing their government and applying rules and order. These
unalterable commandments of the principle of Animalism that all animals should have followed, later

How Is Offred And The Commander
Offred and the Commander The Commander represents the Government and the System in the novel.
The most effective way in which the novel brought out gender bias was Offred s narration of how the
Gilead society claims her body as property of the Government s. She clearly states that she is part of a
collectively owned resource, We are containers, it s only the insides of our bodies that are important.
The outside can become hard and wrinkled for all they care, like the shell of a nut. (Atwood 150).
Handmaids are no more than vessels, no more than passageways that facilitate the existence of a baby
and Offred s empty womb is being watched by the government. It is the central object which is more
real than her. Yet Offred realized the powerlessness of the Commander as a part of the system. He
does not have the ability He wouldn t be able to intervene, to save me; the transgressions of women in
the household, whether Martha or Handmaid, are supposed to be under the jurisdiction of the Wives
alone. (Atwood 162) This also allows the readers a glimpse into the power and infiltration of Mayday
against the Eyes . The readers are able to see the powerlessness and the inefficiency of the State
though the Commander s impotence and restriction placed on him by the State itself. Offred s hope

Was he invading? Was he in my room? (Atwood 49) This coercive power could be a result of Offred s
initial rejection to the Commander s wishes which could result in disaster for her. Even though the
Commander does not maintain a constant relationship with his own wife, Serena Joy considers him
the only thing she has. She exercises a certain power over

wrestler men perpetuating violence against a professional woman wrestler in a sexual way, and the

overtones that exist. These connotations are squashed with images of men forcing themselves upon
women and by diminishing wrestling roles in the WWE world that show any distinction of
homosexuality. The women wrestlers are mostly used as illustrations of the men s heterosexuality, thus
dismissing any impression of homosexuality. Divas: Sex and Male fantasy. Before the 1990 s women
were not characterized much in the WWE but to escort a man to the wrestling ring, usually as a
girlfriend or wife. As Katz says, the conventions of pornography have made their way more and more
into the main stream (Jhally, 2003). Women wrestlers are like porn stars are accustomed as Katz says
provide a spectacle for men (Jhally, 2003), all the while emphasizing their heterosexuality. Women do
minor parts in the WWE and are often seen as Katz says bit players in a male narrative, as sexual
playthings (Jhally, 2003). Men mistreating and embarrassing women is presented as entertainment;
when this happens it is nearly always presented in the context that the woman deserves it or her
actions have led to the punishment. As Kat says, when you make this sort of abuse fun and
entertaining it has the effect of normalizing, justifying, and rationalizing men s violence against
women. (Jhally, 2003). There

A Clean, Well Lighted Place
A clean, well lighted place may be needed more by some than others on dark, lonely nights. The clean,
well lighted café in Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place represents a safe place in which one
can escape their troubles and loneliness that lurk in night s darkness. In the story the characters of the
older waiter and younger waiter differ substantially. They debate over the old man s being in the café,
which is an over stayed visit to the younger waiter. The younger waiter longed for the old man to go
home and eventually forced the old man to leave the café. The older waiter displayed sympathy for the
drunken old man and claimed that he is one of those that likes to stay late at the café. The café
represents more than just a place to drink; it is symbolic and holds a deeper significance. The old man
had attempted suicide and the waiters discuss the possible reasoning behind it, claiming that he was in
despair. We also know that the old man is looked after by his niece who cut him down from the rope
that he hung himself with. It is easy to grow sympathy and empathy for the old man as the older waiter
does. The younger waiter feels differently towards the old man, claiming that An old man is a nasty
thing (p. 153). The younger waiter also told the old man that he should have killed himself last week
(the old man is deaf). There is minimal narration in the story; the story consists mostly of dialogue.
The minimal narration in the story allows the reader to

Compare The Differences And Similarities Between Russian...
In this essay I will be discussing and answering the question What are the primary differences and
similarities between Russian and British ballet technique with reference to the professional works:
Swan Lake ( 2008 ) by the Bolshoi Ballet choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich and Swan Lake ( 2009 )
by the Royal Ballet choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov Answering this question should
help dancers gage a better idea of the differences between techniques and how they have evolved,
since there are different ways of ballet techniques out there and it is hard to choose which is better or
which suits you, by using professional works it can help give dancers an idea of what the end product

In appendix 3 and 4 during the scene of the 4 little swans, one of the most famous scenes and piece of
music. The position of the legs in the Russian side are more precise, you can clearly see that they are
positioned at the side of the knee or slightly below the knee not on the knee or at the back of the knee,
this looks a lot more cleaner in terms of the audience s perspective, their whole body positioning too
shows a bit more precision to where they are looking. Comparing it the Royal Ballet, their feet are
positioned slightly over crossed, positioning their legs over their knee or on their knee rather then
beside. Though from personal experience in training in the RAD system, we are told to position our
feet at the side of the knee where it is a little hollow. Though this from personal experience can be
tough, because it is hard to find that area where there are other things you are concentrating on while
dancing. Therefore I still think that positioning the feet at the very side of the knee is a lot easier to
maintain, and it also prevents you from over crossing, which in turn makes things look a lot neater.
From legs to poses such as a arabesque, to most importantly Pirouettes, the position of legs are

A Summary Of Condom Use Abortion
Alam, Nazmul, et al. Factors associated with condom use negotiation by female sex workers in
Bangladesh International Journal of STD AIDS, vol 24, no. 10,
2013, p. 813 821. This paper summarizes Alam s cross sectional study focussed on the ability of
female sex workers in Bangladesh to negotiate for condom use with clients. After conducting an
assessment with 1395 workers, 439 from brothels, 442 from hotels and 514 street workers, he has
reported that there are key differences in the factors influencing each group. He finds that they are
mobile and there are a greater number of them, street sex workers are least likely to negotiate with
clients. The overall results of condom use negotiation are quite poor; on average, about 28.1% of all
sex workers negotiated consistently. As the lack of condom use makes sex workers vulnerable to
sexually transmitted diseases, it is essential that they are given the required administrative support to
enhance negotiation skills. Alam s insights are powerful as they document the specific factors that
discourage female sex workers from negotiating with clients. He finds that the primary motivation is
financial; clients offer more for condoms to not be used, and sex workers are reluctant to negotiate as
it could lead to lost customers. This conversation about competition for clients provides important
insights regarding the structural factors affecting sex work. Alam finds that sex workers are heavily
influenced by this factor due to

Whitening Your Teeth Research Paper
A good majority of people desire to have whiter teeth. Luckily, there are many actions you can take in
order to prevent new stains forming on your teeth. There are a number of different ways to whiten
your teeth. This article brings you useful tips for getting you teeth white and keeping them that way.
Mouthwash may be causing some of your teeth discoloration. All of the alcohol and excess chemicals
that are present in mouthwash cause yellowish stains, because they remove the enamel on your teeth
that keeps them white. Check with your dentist, though, to be sure that you have healthy enough teeth
to skip mouthwash.
TIP! Before you embark on a program in whitening your teeth, keep in mind that whitening agents are
only effective on natural teeth. Dont ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The high acid content of strawberry juice helps you to remove discolorations from your tooth enamel.
This does not cost a lot of money and will help provide you with a beautiful smile.
Consider using natural coconut oil for whitening your teeth. Giving your teeth a 10 minute daily rinse
in coconut oil can have great effects on the whiteness of your smile. After approximately 10 minutes,
make sure to spit it out, then brush like normal. You should start seeing results after just a few days.
TIP! These bits of food will get caught in your teeth and leave stains. A great way to avoid getting
stains is by chewing sugar free gum.
Toothpastes that claim they will make your teeth whiter usually dont work. Although these toothpastes
provide some degree of whitening, you are going to need other, stronger methods to get your teeth as
white as you want them. If you insist on buying a whitening toothpaste, make sure to get one that has
baking soda in it.
Although mouthwashes help to improve the health of your mouth, they also cause teeth discoloration.
If you still prefer to use mouthwash, opt for a formula that is not brightly colored or excessively

Example Of Ethnographic Research
When I first saw I would be doing my research on China, I was excited; I have a few friends who are
from China. The first thoughts that came to my mind were Chinese New Year, unique food, and
fascinating traditions. My research pertains to understanding what factors make up the inequality of
health and education between rural and urban cities in China. The first time I saw anything pertaining
to this issue, I found it interesting because the situation is comparable to what the U.S experiences.
Before I preceded to do my research, I did not know how the government in China was handling the
situation. After talking with my service learning partner, Hui and doing my own research, I found that
this topic is very complicated. There are many reasons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It was interesting to see how this article said that China s inequality between the rural and urban areas
increased tremendously because of the rise of industrialization. Personally, I find China industrializing
to be suitable because being more industrialized is helping China s economy, as said by this article.
However, when China focuses on only industrializing the urban parts more than the rural, that
becomes a problem. It becomes a problem because one area is not going to get the necessary attention
it needs to be successful. There is a group named the township and village enterprise (TVE), and their
primary focus is to industrialized rural provinces. The article gives us data to show the distribution
priority for industrializing urban and rural areas. The data shows that industrialization is the main
reason there is inequality in China. I was happy to see that there were programs to try and help the
rural provinces. It shows that China s government is trying to at least appear to be fixing the

How Is Napoleon Bonaparte A Hero
Napoleon Bonaparte was the French leader in the late 1700s. He is known as an intelligent and clever
military leader. He went to military school at the age of nine, and finished school at the age of 16
eventually becoming a lieutenant in the artillery. Napoleon Bonaparte had many successes and
failures, however his failures overpowered his successes which makes him a tyrant. While leading he
went into many wars and lost many soldiers. By the end many people were not on his side and many
did not believe in what he was doing as the leader of France, therefore making him a villain for
France. Napoleon Bonaparte had many weaknesses as a leader which caused him to have many
defeats. The Directory selected Napoleon to lead the French army in 1796 and this is what got him
started leading France and the people. To defend French trade Napoleon took his army to Europe and
the British army trapped Napoleon and his army. Napoleon manipulated the people by keeping what
had happened out of the news so that he could be known as a great hero to the French people. If he did
not cover up that he was defeated and was trapped the French people might have realized that he
failed at his duty and was not the best for leader for the army. ... Show more content on

Essay on A Philosophical Examination of Language
A Philosophical Examination of Language
Philosophy is language idling.
Ludwig Wittgenstein Language and philosophy have an intimate connection to one another; without a
philosophical examination of the meanings and structure of language, we cannot easily ascertain the
objective truth of the statements we make, nor can we usefully discuss abstract concepts. The
philosophy of language seeks to understand the concepts expressed by language and to find a system
by which it can effectively and accurately do so. This is more difficult than it appears at first;
philosophers are looking for a theory of language which avoids the minute errors of meaning and
usage which occur in all discussions of abstract concepts and which tend to ... Show more content on

Ordinary language theory, on the other hand, suggested that these philosophical problems appear when
language is used improperly; the language itself is perfectly acceptable and can be easily applied to
the discussion of abstract and philosophical concepts without undue modifications, as long as it is
used and interpreted properly (Katz 69). Each of the! ! se movements in linguistic philosophy had its
strengths and weaknesses, and its supporters and detractors. LOGICAL EMPIRICISM
Pure metaphysical speculation which is not based on fact is, to the empiricists, neither relevant nor
useful. The only truth, in this philosophy, is that which is mathematically provable or experimentally
observable (Katz 18 19). This truth can be divided into two categories: analytic truths are based on
inherent meanings and can be observed through the application of reason, if not experiment; synthetic
truths are those facts which are obtained from the experience of reality (Quine, in Rosenberg Travis,
63). How does this apply to linguistic philosophy? Any system of communication must, in order to be
meaningful, include some way to represent the truth accurately; any empiricist will tell you that this
truth is only valuable and meaningful if it can be considered absolute and provable. In order to be
perfectly accurate in representing the truth, language must conform to a certain set of specifications
designed to prevent it from

His poems set the tone for the renaissance and was held in high regard by young black poets in
Harlem. At that time, a man named Max Eastman, who was a communist sympathizer and the editor
of a popular magazine called Liberator, became friends with McKay and started publishing his works
in the magazine. The radical magazine put McKay s poems on the map and gave that strong nudge
needed to get people to realize the unimaginable prejudice going on in Harlem.
Claude McKay published Harlem Shadows, which were a collection of his most acclaimed poems
over the years, and secured in his place as a leader in the Harlem Renaissance. His works: If We Must
Die , Home to Harlem and Banana Bottoms proved his stature in the movement and were the most
enticing and surreal depictions of the predicament black individuals experienced in America. He died
on May 22, 1948, but his poetry lived on the tell the tale of the average African American s struggle in
the place they called home. He devoted his life to social protest and paved the way for many more

Private Development and Corporate Funding to Fight Shoreline Erosion
At its simplest, shoreline erosion is the result of the combination of processes, both natural and
manmade, by which shoreline and beaches are damaged or lost. For this discussion, wetlands are also
included. There is an ongoing debate over the best way by which to preserve beaches, shorelines, and
wetlands. Conservation extremists argue that limiting or restricting land use, and restoring damaged
property with tax money represents the most prudent answer to shoreline erosion. Included in this
position is the inherent role of government intervention to preserve America s shoreline. There are
many problems with the conservation position, and many advantages to ... Show more content on

Many, if not most, of our coastal environment concerns stem from population growth pressure
(Rhinehart, 1997). These trends make it clear that the hodgepodge of environmental and zoning laws
throughout the country many at odds with each other are unable to cope with the pressures brought to
bear on America s shoreline resources. Only the consistently well reasoned principles of private
industry can answer the growing needs of shoreline, beach, and water resource management.
There are many wise and sensible voices pointing out the failures and shortcomings of the
conservation movement. Washington State Representative Joyce Mulliken, R Ephrata, has recently
announced the proposal of legislation to repeal shoreline regulations approved by the Washington
Department of Ecology (DOE). The regulations would prohibit the use of all lands within 200 feet of a
shoreline, including commercial development, farming, ranching, and other essential activities. Rep.
Mulliken points out those state s most extreme environmental lobbyists created these rules, without
concern for legitimate business interests. Further, these regulations constitute an unfunded mandate
that would cost millions to local taxpayers. Regulations such as the ones imposed on the people of
Washington State represent a direct threat to the state s farmers, ranchers, dairy producers, and other
agricultural industries. They also constitute a direct threat to private property

The Differences Between Leadership And Management
In his book A Force for a Change, John Kotter (1990) proposed that management differs from
leadership, because leadership is a process that focuses of making organisational changes, while
management is primarily concerned with control and results . The terms leader and manager are too
often used interchangeably, leaders are not always managers, and managers are not always effective
leaders. However to support quality patient outcomes, nurses can demonstrate leadership and
management skills at any level of experience and in any stage of their careers. This paper will outline
the differences between leadership and management, how leadership and management relate to
nursing, how skills can be developed and how graduate nurses can struggle to display these skills, but
can learn how to become an effective leader with time and education.
Rosabeth Moss Kanter stated that, leaders must wake people out of inertia; they must get people
excited about something they ve never seen before, something that does not exist (O Connor, 2015).
The definition of leadership may vary based on the context and setting to which it is applied, but in a
general sense, leadership is a process to guide, structure, and facilitate activities and relationships in a
group or organisation, by exerting intentional influence over other people (Cox, 2016). Effective
leaders should have clear visions, be adaptable and have the ability to inspire others toward a common
goal (Cox, 2016). Anytime a person leads

Are Colleges Worth The Cost Of College
Attending college after high school is a choice everybody has to make. However, colleges can be very
expensive to attend. The decision to go to college hangs mostly on one question: Is college worth the
cost? Many people evaluate the cost of college by equating it to things such as family tradition and
whether or not they need it for their career. To some people, college is a stumbling block, but to
others, it is the key to their future. To begin, college has many benefits, despite the cost. College
teaches students more than book smarts, but also teaches life skills. Liberal Arts graduates can be seen
prominently in leadership positions in areas such as politics and culture (Source B). In this aspect,
college holds a key to a prosperous

Miscommunication At School For The Homework
Everybody has gone through that worry when you are not sure what the teacher is trying to say about
the homework, trust me you are not alone. One part of you feels that you might know what they are
saying and what they want you to do but another part that has no clue. You want to ask them to clarify
but you re too scared to raise your hand because in your mind everybody will think you are dumb and
can t figure anything out on your own. Even if you do build up the courage and ask for clarification
and have the teacher repeat the steps and say you finally understand but actually you are even more
lost then before. So you go home almost ripping your hair out and almost in tears fearing you are
going to do something wrong and get a bad grade on the assignment or not even turn it in. There is
always going to be some type of miscommunication at school for the homework or by the lesson
itself; however, that should not stop you from pushing through and getting your work done. There are
different ways to get the right information.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Michelle Obama s Speech
The intended audience for this speech was young women who aspire to become a better woman
independently. Even though the actual audience was young women, the place where she gave a speech
was the best place to show the similarity between Michelle Obama and her intended audience. The
school was girls only, inner city, its pupils, of whom 20% are the children of refugees... 92% of whom
are from a black or minority background (Cadwalladr, 2009, para.9). She says, I want you to know
that we have very much in common (1:24). Then, I did not raise with wealth or resources or any social
standing to speak of, and I raised on the Southside of Chicago. That is the real part of Chicago (1:50).

The Political Terms Left And Right Were Devised During The...
The political terms left and right were devised during the French revolution to describe the seating
arrangement in the British parliament. Those who sat on the left were generally opposed the monarchy
and supported the revolutions, while those on the right supported the traditional institutions of the
British Empire. It was during the nineteen century that the word wing began following the term left
and right, usually with weary intent. Those considered left wing were unorthodox in their religious or
political view
A radical ideology of the left is defined as political positions or activities that accepts or supports
social equality, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality. Often those of left wing
ideology involve in concern for those in society who are perceived at a disadvantage relative to others
and a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished. They propose a
view of human beings living together harmoniously without great disparities in wealth or social
classes. On the other hand, those of the right wing radical ideology are political positions or activities
that view some forms of social inequality as either inevitable, natural, normal or desirable and
typically defend this position based on natural law, economics or traditions.
On radical ideology that might take place in the United States is capitalism. The capitalist theory isn t

The Thane Of Cawdor By Stefan Reread
The Thane of Cawdor, Stefan reread the black ink that stained words onto the sandy brown paper that
had been worn from old age. He pushed back from his slouched position that had his back aching due
to tense muscles in his back from stress. He didn t know what was right or wrong anymore. A red
blotch harboured his cheek where he had rested his head on his coarse hand. Growing irritated at his
own behaviour, the worrying, anxiety and confusion, he stood abruptly out of his wooden desk chair,
the legs scraping against the mahogany floor boards. A sound that resembled an animalist growl,
gurgled at the back of his throat. He snatched the paper up from the office desk and it crumpled in his
tightening fist. He took his anger out on the creaky floorboards as he stomped around his castle. *
Stefan s wife, Katherine peeked around the corner at her husband as he opened the door to the attic
harshly. Frowning, Kathrine scurried into his office to look through his stuff as she was suspicious of
her husband s behaviour. She feared the worst. When she made it into his office, she heaved a sigh
leaning against the door that she had closed very quietly. Her curly dark brown hair cascaded around
her oval face that was etched with uneasiness. Her exquisite chocolate swirled eyes, darted around the
room as if she were expecting something, or someone to pop out and hurt her. A week ago Kathrine
questioned her husband about his change of behaviour. She hadn t expected him to lash out on

Daniel Gilbert Immune To Reality Analysis
Excuses. They are the fabrications humans create to justify an unexpected or unpleasant event.
Whether it be blaming the traffic for one s tardiness rather than admitting that they hit the snooze
button or blaming ourselves for losing money in investments rather than looking further into the
situation in order to understand that it was the bank s fault for making a bad business deal; excuses
bury the true cause of an event. In Daniel Gilbert s Immune to Reality , he describes the excuses
people make as people being immune to reality , and suggests that people are typically unaware of the
reasons they are doing what they are doing, but when asked for a reason, they readily supply one

A recurring point in Gilbert s studies included the notion that people were utterly incapable of making
predictions that would lead to their actual optimal happiness. A study showed that about nine out of
ten people expect to feel more regret when they foolishly switch stocks than when they foolishly fail
to switch stocks , but the study also showed that those nine out of ten people are wrong in assuming
that expectation (Gilbert 135). A majority of consumers also made an incorrect assumption, as
described by Stiglitz, which resulted in the maintenance and growth of one of the most well known
monopolies of the present. The consumers assumed that, due to it s near monopoly on PC operating
systems, Microsoft was a good and innovative company and is capable in handling computer systems.
This was not the case when it came to alternative technologies such as the development of the Internet
and the web browser because their competitor, Netscape, was building on government funded research
while Microsoft had no such incentive (Stiglitz 405). Microsoft then decided to launch their Internet
Explorer, but by itself Internet Explorer could not compete against Netscape. They knew this, and so
decided to use its monopoly power in PC operating systems to make sure that the playing field was
not level. They offered Internet Explorer for

The Causes Of European Revolutions In The 1820 s
Revolutions has long been a common event for Europeans living during the 1820 s through the 1840 s.
All walks of life engaged in these revolutions. From proletariats to young army officers to professors
and even to the common unemployed peasants. These citizens ensured a future for their countries by
way of bloodshed and protest.
The revolutions of the 1820 s and 1830 s in Germany started out with fraternities calling for the
unification of the German speaking lands into the unified Germany. Cumulating with the festivals of
both Wartburg and Hambach, 1815 and 1832 respectively. Both festivals were seen by the reactionary
governments of the time as a threat to national security and the government passed the Karlsbad
Decrees which suppressed fraternities at German universities. The French compared to the Germans
had a much harsher take on revolutions with the Canut revolts in 1831. The Canut revolts which took
place in the town of Lyons were a direct cause of the looming economic loss of silk and its price
drops. After the workers of Lyons unsuccessfully vouched for a minimum price of silk, the workers
revolted. The resulting revolt ending up with over 600 civilians and soldiers alike losing their life s,
and a tradition of revolutions in the town of Lyon with the next one accumulating in 1834, and one
more in 1848 . France and German speaking lands were not the only ones that experiences
revolutions. The Chartist s movement in England were a peaceful signatory campaign to

The Difference Between Brutus and Cassius in William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar , Brutus and Cassius are contrasting characters. They differ in the way
they perceive Antony as a threat to the assassination plot, their dominance in personality, and their
moral obligation. In Julius Caesar, Brutus is the more naïve, dominant and noble character, while
Cassius is the more perceptive, submissive, and manipulative person.
Brutus and Cassius are very different in the way they perceive Antony. Brutus is very trusting and
naïve when he judges Antony. When the subject of killing Antony comes up among the
conspirators, Brutus underestimates how dangerous Antony could be ... Show more content on

When Brutus gives Antony the right to speak at Caesar s funeral, Cassius pulls Brutus aside and says,
You know not what you do. Do not consent that Antony speak in [Caesar s] funeral. Know you how
much the people may be moved/ by that which [Antony] will utter? Cassius sees that Antony is a
powerful speaker and that if Antony speaks the people will side with him. This shows that Cassius has
a much better idea of how dangerous Antony is.
Although Cassius is correct on how dangerous Antony really is, Brutus ideas are used because Brutus
is the more dominant character. In the play Cassius is the more passive character and Brutus, the more
authoritative. This is exemplified when Brutus and Cassius are arguing about allowing Cicero joining
the assassination conspiracy. Cassius thinks that Cicero is a good and honorable man that should be
included, but as soon as he nominates Cicero to join the group, Brutus steps in and says, O, name him
not! Let us not break with him, for he will never follow anything that other men begin . Instead of
contesting Brutus, Cassius just lets it pass and concedes to not permitting Cicero to join the group.
Although this particular argument is not pivotal to the plot, it augments how Brutus dominates what
decisions are made. Brutus again shows his dominance over Cassius when the two are discussing
military strategies. Cassius wants to stay

Expanding Deere s Construction Segement to China Essays
Deere and its customers share many of the same risks. Poor weather conditions or crop prices can

equipment buyer s ability to finance new machinery. A recent endeavor to expand the construction
segment in China also presents risk, as the region is home to more established players, both domestic
and foreign, and has also experienced recent weakening.

Black Lives Matter Movement Ideology

Movement actually is, because the author of the website does not necessarily represent the beliefs of
all of The Black Lives Matter Movements. In the case that the above ideology does represent all Black
Lives Matter chapters, this information is disconcerting. As history as shown, social separatism has
not and will not allow for an equal and humane society, but rather, black separatism will create
increased social and political ostracization and disenfranchisement. Perhaps I am biased for my

For some movements, motivation and willpower will simply fizzle out, for others, major leaders will
die and for some, the long series of campaigns and demonstrations will end with widespread change
and victory. In other cases, like that of the Civil Rights Movement, a revolutionary group will gain
power and an increased following and supersede the original movement. The Civil Rights Movement
fell into decline because of the rise of a revolutionary group but fell to an abrupt ending when a
founding leader and a prophet, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. By April of 1968, the Civil
Rights Movement had already been in decline for a few years and leadership and credibility had
greatly diminished. Any remains of the movement at this point were still alive only because of the
captivating rhetoric employed by Martin Luther King Jr. On April 3, the night before King s death,
King delivered these profound remarks on the progress of the movement and the future to come:

Handwriting Writing Characteristics
Handwriting is a skill many people acquire at a young age. Handwriting is something that is individual
to a specific person based on individual characteristics. Special examiners who are trained to examine
documents and handwritings can compare samples and identify class characteristics, individual
characteristics, and use vision and technology to make a positive connection or disconnection between
a subject sample and the comparison sample. The act of handwriting is accomplished through practice
and repetition. Most people learn to write by copying letter formations from a copybook at a young
age (Harrison, D., Burkes, T., Seiger, D). Class characteristics would include everyone who learned
how to write their letters with the traditional lined paper and were taught letter formation and spacing.
Someone who lives in America may have learned how to write differently from someone who lives in
a foreign country but it still holds the basic concept of forming letters or symbols to make words.
Once handwriting itself is mastered, people tend to adopt individual characteristics that set their
writing apart from others. The writing becomes a pattern of subconscious, habitual formations that are
repeated from one writing to the next (Hilton 1982; Huber 1999). These writings separate a type or
style from being just standard copybook format to forming different strokes, patterns, skill level, and
or identifying techniques of writing. According to the FBI, no two writers share

  • 2. Conflict, Man Vs. Society Conflict In a story the conflict moves the plot making it one of the most important features. There are four types of conflict, man vs. man, man vs. nature, man vs. society, and man vs. himself. In the short story The Necklace the conflict would be described as man vs. himself, or man vs. society. The first idea that supports that statement would be when the author introduces the main character, Mathilde . He tells of how she is taunted about her shabby apartment for its dingy walls, worn out furniture, and ugly drapes. This is not only an external conflict of man vs. society, but it fuels the internal conflict. Mathilde thinks she deserves a better life than what she has with more riches and luxuries because of her beauty and charm. She is also resentful of her husband not being any higher class This is an internal conflict because Mathilde is not satisfied with her life and cannot accept how it is. This conflict giving the readers an explanation of Mathilde and the story s first problem. The second idea supporting the conflict being man vs. himself or man vs. society, is when Mathilde s husband invites her to a ball. He thought it would make her delighted, but instead she is sad everyone will show up beautifully dressed, while she does not even have an appropriate gown. This conflict is a mixture of man vs. man, and man vs. society, because even though she is doubting herself of elegancy, she is being persuaded by the fact of everyone else being dressed ... The History Of Lewis And Clark The History of Lewis and Clark In 1803, shortly after the Louisiana Purchase, Thomas Jefferson, our third US President sent two men, U.S. Army Captain Meriwether Lewis and William Clark out to explore the unexplored west and in search of a water route across North America, fulfilling the dreams of Thomas Jefferson in sending explorers across the America. Thomas Jefferson chose Meriwether Lewis who was previously his secretary to lead the expedition. Thus being chosen to lead the expedition, William Clark volunteered to assist Lewis on the journey. Working together on the upcoming journey, it is clear that both these men made a great dynamic duo, Lewis being the one with the scientific knowledge such as studying soil, animals, rock formations and the geography of the new uncharted land and Clark mapping the course traveled and having a great military background. Before, getting started on the actual expedition of Lewis and Clark, both men had been preparing for their journey since around the fall of 1803 by obtaining the skills necessary for the trip. Prior to the big trip, Lewis went to Philadelphia to study and learn more about science and also get the equipment necessary for the trip. The main items bought in Philadelphia were scientific related equipment, medicines, food, blankets, equipment for tent making, books for referencing and studying on the trip and journals. • 5. Essay on Cause and Effects of Smallpox Cause and Effects of Smallpox Smallpox is caused by the variola virus that emerged in human populations thousands of years ago. Smallpox is a specific, infectious, and highly contagious febrile disease known only to be transmitted by humans. It is caused by a virus from air currents which are eventually passed on from person to person. Smallpox varies from a mild form without skin manifestations to a highly fatal hemorrhagic form. Edward Jenner, an English physician, discovered a means of preventing smallpox through vaccination. Gradually mass vaccination programs were introduced in many parts of the world. Smallpox was the first disease conquered by human beings and was eradicated by vaccination. The last known cases of naturally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humans are the natural hosts of smallpox and it is not known to be transmitted by insects or animals. (WHO, 2005) Cause and Effects of Smallpox...2 Exposure to the virus is followed by an incubation period which people may not feel any sign of symptoms. The incubation period can range between 7 to 17 days. People are not contagious during this time period. After the incubation period, high fever, chills, severe headache and backache, and general malaise begin to develop. Your body temperature can reach up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit. After 2 to 4 days, a rash emerges first as small red spots on the tongue and in the mouth. The spots develop into sores which spread large amounts of the virus into the mouth and throat. The person becomes most contagious during this phase. Soon after, the smallpox rash appears on exposed portions of the body: the face, forearms, wrists, palms, lower legs, feet, and soles. Usually the rash spreads to all parts of the body within 24 hours. As the rash appears, the fever usually falls and the person may start to feel better. The rash becomes raised bumps on the third day of the rash. The bumps fill with a thick, opaque fluid and often have a depression in the center that looks like a bellybutton. (CDC, 2004). This is a major distinguishing characteristic of smallpox that occurs on the fourth day. Until scabs form over the bumps, fever often will rise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Screening Contact between an addictions counsellor and a client is usually initiated by the client referring him/her self, an outside agency refers them, family physician or the addictions counsellor initiates contact through outreach or other agencies. Treatment Planning The treatment planning process helps the client select the level and intensity of treatment that works best for them. When planning treatment the counsellor can consider preferences and the services available. The treatment plan may change over time but it provides a focus for ongoing support. The treatment plan comprises of two main functions, it allows for a negotiation between the client and assessor for specific interventions to address the identified problems as well as allows them to develop a manageable plan. It is important when negotiating with the client that the counsellor listens to what the client wants and is capable of undertaking with agreement to implement. In the novella, this community shows indicators of sustainable development or lack there of. Despite this, the animal farm society has witnessed changes to their development. • 11. How Is Offred And The Commander Offred and the Commander The Commander represents the Government and the System in the novel. The most effective way in which the novel brought out gender bias was Offred s narration of how the Gilead society claims her body as property of the Government s. She clearly states that she is part of a collectively owned resource, We are containers, it s only the insides of our bodies that are important. The outside can become hard and wrinkled for all they care, like the shell of a nut. (Atwood 150). Handmaids are no more than vessels, no more than passageways that facilitate the existence of a baby and Offred s empty womb is being watched by the government. It is the central object which is more real than her. Yet Offred realized the powerlessness of the Commander as a part of the system. He does not have the ability He wouldn t be able to intervene, to save me; the transgressions of women in the household, whether Martha or Handmaid, are supposed to be under the jurisdiction of the Wives alone. Wrestler Men Perpetuating Violence Against A Professional... wrestler men perpetuating violence against a professional woman wrestler in a sexual way, and the footage is being glorified Men s heterosexuality must also be reinforced because of the homosexual overtones that exist. These connotations are squashed with images of men forcing themselves upon women and by diminishing wrestling roles in the WWE world that show any distinction of homosexuality. The women wrestlers are mostly used as illustrations of the men s heterosexuality, thus dismissing any impression of homosexuality. Divas: Sex and Male fantasy. Before the 1990 s women were not characterized much in the WWE but to escort a man to the wrestling ring, usually as a girlfriend or wife. As Katz says, the conventions of pornography have made their way more and more into the main stream (Jhally, 2003). Women wrestlers are like porn stars are accustomed as Katz says provide a spectacle for men (Jhally, 2003), all the while emphasizing their heterosexuality. Women do minor parts in the WWE and are often seen as Katz says bit players in a male narrative, as sexual playthings (Jhally, 2003). Men mistreating and embarrassing women is presented as entertainment; when this happens it is nearly always presented in the context that the woman deserves it or her actions have led to the punishment. As Kat says, when you make this sort of abuse fun and entertaining it has the effect of normalizing, justifying, and rationalizing men s violence against women. (Jhally, 2003). There ... The clean, well lighted café in Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place represents a safe place in which one can escape their troubles and loneliness that lurk in night s darkness. In the story the characters of the older waiter and younger waiter differ substantially. They debate over the old man s being in the café, which is an over stayed visit to the younger waiter. The younger waiter longed for the old man to go home and eventually forced the old man to leave the café. The older waiter displayed sympathy for the drunken old man and claimed that he is one of those that likes to stay late at the café. The café represents more than just a place to drink; it is symbolic and holds a deeper significance. The old man had attempted suicide and the waiters discuss the possible reasoning behind it, claiming that he was in despair. We also know that the old man is looked after by his niece who cut him down from the rope that he hung himself with. It is easy to grow sympathy and empathy for the old man as the older waiter does. The younger waiter feels differently towards the old man, claiming that An old man is a nasty thing (p. 153). This paper summarizes Alam s cross sectional study focussed on the ability of female sex workers in Bangladesh to negotiate for condom use with clients. After conducting an assessment with 1395 workers, 439 from brothels, 442 from hotels and 514 street workers, he has reported that there are key differences in the factors influencing each group. He finds that they are mobile and there are a greater number of them, street sex workers are least likely to negotiate with clients. The overall results of condom use negotiation are quite poor; on average, about 28.1% of all sex workers negotiated consistently. As the lack of condom use makes sex workers vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases, it is essential that they are given the required administrative support to enhance negotiation skills. Alam s insights are powerful as they document the specific factors that discourage female sex workers from negotiating with clients. He finds that the primary motivation is financial; clients offer more for condoms to not be used, and sex workers are reluctant to negotiate as it could lead to lost customers. This conversation about competition for clients provides important insights regarding the structural factors affecting sex work. • 21. Essay on A Philosophical Examination of Language A Philosophical Examination of Language Philosophy is language idling. Ludwig Wittgenstein Language and philosophy have an intimate connection to one another; without a philosophical examination of the meanings and structure of language, we cannot easily ascertain the objective truth of the statements we make, nor can we usefully discuss abstract concepts. The philosophy of language seeks to understand the concepts expressed by language and to find a system by which it can effectively and accurately do so. This is more difficult than it appears at first; philosophers are looking for a theory of language which avoids the minute errors of meaning and usage which occur in all discussions of abstract concepts and which tend to ... Each of the! ! se movements in linguistic philosophy had its strengths and weaknesses, and its supporters and detractors. LOGICAL EMPIRICISM Pure metaphysical speculation which is not based on fact is, to the empiricists, neither relevant nor useful. The only truth, in this philosophy, is that which is mathematically provable or experimentally observable (Katz 18 19). This truth can be divided into two categories: analytic truths are based on inherent meanings and can be observed through the application of reason, if not experiment; synthetic truths are those facts which are obtained from the experience of reality (Quine, in Rosenberg Travis, 63). How does this apply to linguistic philosophy? Any system of communication must, in order to be meaningful, include some way to represent the truth accurately; any empiricist will tell you that this truth is only valuable and meaningful if it can be considered absolute and provable. The Differences Between Leadership And Management In his book A Force for a Change, John Kotter (1990) proposed that management differs from leadership, because leadership is a process that focuses of making organisational changes, while management is primarily concerned with control and results . The terms leader and manager are too often used interchangeably, leaders are not always managers, and managers are not always effective leaders. However to support quality patient outcomes, nurses can demonstrate leadership and management skills at any level of experience and in any stage of their careers. Let us not break with him, for he will never follow anything that other men begin . Instead of contesting Brutus, Cassius just lets it pass and concedes to not permitting Cicero to join the group. Although this particular argument is not pivotal to the plot, it augments how Brutus dominates what decisions are made. Brutus again shows his dominance over Cassius when the two are discussing military strategies. Cassius wants to stay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Black Lives Matter Movement Ideology Without any credible leaders, it is difficult to discern what the ideology of the Black Lives Matter Movement actually is, because the author of the website does not necessarily represent the beliefs of all of The Black Lives Matter Movements. In the case that the above ideology does represent all Black Lives Matter chapters, this information is disconcerting. As history as shown, social separatism has not and will not allow for an equal and humane society, but rather, black separatism will create increased social and political ostracization and disenfranchisement. For some movements, motivation and willpower will simply fizzle out, for others, major leaders will die and for some, the long series of campaigns and demonstrations will end with widespread change and victory. In other cases, like that of the Civil Rights Movement, a revolutionary group will gain power and an increased following and supersede the original movement. The Civil Rights Movement fell into decline because of the rise of a revolutionary group but fell to an abrupt ending when a founding leader and a prophet, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. By April of 1968, the Civil Rights Movement had already been in decline for a few years and leadership and credibility had greatly diminished. Any remains of the movement at this point were still alive only because of the captivating rhetoric employed by Martin Luther King Jr. On April 3, the night before King s death, King delivered these profound remarks on the progress of the movement and the future to come: Around the same time, the rhetoric of Black Power activists like Al Cleage was becoming the new norm in the civil rights world. Handwriting is something that is individual to a specific person based on individual characteristics. Special examiners who are trained to examine documents and handwritings can compare samples and identify class characteristics, individual characteristics, and use vision and technology to make a positive connection or disconnection between a subject sample and the comparison sample. The act of handwriting is accomplished through practice and repetition. Most people learn to write by copying letter formations from a copybook at a young age (Harrison, D., Burkes, T., Seiger, D). Class characteristics would include everyone who learned how to write their letters with the traditional lined paper and were taught letter formation and spacing. Someone who lives in America may have learned how to write differently from someone who lives in a foreign country but it still holds the basic concept of forming letters or symbols to make words. Once handwriting itself is mastered, people tend to adopt individual characteristics that set their writing apart from others. The writing becomes a pattern of subconscious, habitual formations that are repeated from one writing to the next (Hilton 1982; Huber 1999). These writings separate a type or style from being just standard copybook format to forming different strokes, patterns, skill level, and or identifying techniques of writing. According to the FBI, no two writers share ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
