Theme Of Educating Rita
Education is a powerful tool that holds different meanings and uses for everyone. To some, it s simply
a 13 to 17 year hurdle before beginning your real life. For others who understand it s possibilities, like
Rita, it could be a key to a whole new world. Educating Rita is the story of a young hairstylist with a
desire for a different life. She seems doomed to live the life everyone expects her to; to get married,
have children and, well, that s pretty much it, but Rita has a craving for knowledge and self
advancement. Like her mother says as they sing in the pub, Rita believes, There must be better songs
to sing than this. So she goes back to school with uncertainty, despite her husband s insecurities and
objections, because to Rita ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning, Rita presents as a young, lower class woman, dressed in what might be considered as
less than conservative clothing, with blond hair and colored highlights. Although, as her academic
achievement progresses, and when she returns from London, her appearance is shown as more refined,
with more modest clothing, and single toned hair. She seems more comfortable in the world of higher
education. And though she struggled to choose appropriate clothing and classy wine for a dinner party
at first, she now prides herself in finally being able to say, I know what clothes to wear, what wine to
buy, what plays to see, what papers and books to read. Rita s newfound confidence displays again
when she is late to a tutorial because she stops to discuss literature with a group of students, where
before she feared that her opinions wouldn t sound educated enough. On her trek for knowledge, Rita
is introduced to worlds and perspectives that she might not otherwise have experienced, and the new
understanding she gains helps prepare her and therefore gives her more confidence, to adapt to a
situation easier.
Upon her return, Rita moves in with a woman named Trish. To her, Trish defines elegance. What Rita
doesn t know, is that Trish has troubles of her own. When Trish attempts suicide, Rita sees that even
the most advanced people have demons. Rita asks Trish why she tried to kill herself and Trish
responds, When I listen to

How Did Julius Caesar Invade Britain
Intro Roman Britain, or Britannia, was the name of England and Wales when they were ruled by the
Romans. Julius Caesar was the first of the Roman emperors to invade Britain. The native Britons were
overrun by other Celtic tribes. These tribes however aided Caesar s enemies, thus the need to invade
Britain. But it wasn t until a hundred years later that the Romans actually ruled Roman Britain, thanks
to the defenses of the Celtic tribes. Culture The Romans brought culture to Ancient Britain. They built
brick and stone buildings with central heating, sewage systems, paved roads, libraries etc. The
Romans also brought their language to Britain: Latin. Housing The floor on which someone lived
depended on his or her income. The lower apartments ground or first floor were more comfortable
than the top floors. They were spacious, had separate rooms for dining and sleeping, they had
windows and had access to running water. The higher floors however usually housed an entire family
per room. There was no natural light, no running water and thus no private toilets. Instead, they often
had to use public toilets, or dump their waste outside. The wealthiest residents lived in private villas,
close to the imperial palace. They consisted of a shop at the front of the villa, and an atrium connected

Families were centered around the paterfamilias, the male head of the household. The paterfamilias
literally had the power of life and death over all members of the family: when a disfigured child was
born, he could reject it, if another daughter was born, he could reject her, if someone questioned his
authority, he could order him to be killed. Another fun fact is that he could also sell his children as
slaves. The wife would run the household and sometimes tutored the children. Later in time, the wife
was permitted to go to the baths, attend theater, and even to have an actual

Confessions By Saul M. Kassin
1.False Confessions by Saul M. Kassin
Within the criminal forensic field, there has been a shift in research dealing with DNA exoneration
and placing guilt of a crime on the legitimate perpetrator. This scholarly article outlines the
implications of DNA exoneration and false confessions, specifically the methods that are used to
coerce an individual into confessing falsely. The risk factors for a false confession that are discussed
include; interrogation technique such as lengthy sessions, presentations of false evidence, and
minimization themes that imply leniency which increase the risk that innocent people will confess.
Also researched is vulnerable individuals, notably, those with mental health problems or intellectual
impairments, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the authors research, it is believed that there are multiple steps to having an individual
confess in beliefs that they truly committed a crime, even though they did not. The steps include: a
trigger, plausibility, acceptance, reconstruction and resolution all of which fall in line with the faulty
interrogation techniques previously mentioned; coercive interviewing, lengthy solitary confinement,
contamination, psychological vulnerabilities (both state and trait) and lack of independent support
during questioning. Accordingly, the above mentioned methods could lead to a faulty memory and
result in false confessions. The main purpose of an interrogation is to obtain a confession and a
popular tool used within this area of investigation is the Reid technique. The Reid Technique is said to
be the most frequently used form of interrogation in North America (TEXTBOOK CITE). The
technique originated from a polygrapher in Chicago named John. E Reid. The methods were later
published in a book in 2001 titled, Criminal Interrogation and Confessions (TEXTBOOK CITE).
According to a study, the Reid technique has been a guide for over 300,000 police investigators since
1974 (TEXTBOOK CITE). By assessing the credibility in multiple steps and stages, an investigator
aims to obtain a confession using the Reid technique.

An Overview Of Parkinson Disease
An Overview of Parkinson Disease Parkinson disease (PD) is a condition consisting of many
unanswered questions. What causes it? Is it a genetic disorder? How will an individual know if they
will be diagnosed with it in their lifetime? The list of enquiries one might present is endless. However,
before even attempting to answer any questions, it is essential to understand the disease as a whole. In
order to do so, grasping basic background information as well as data on PD is necessary. Following
that, discussing material regarding the science behind the disease will provide a deeper understanding
when examining the subsequent etiologies, signs, and symptoms. From a historical perspective, PD
was first described in 1817 by James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to understand the possible etiology and the signs and symptoms, it is important to first
recognize the science of PD and what happens neurologically. Nolden, Tartavoulle, and Porche (2014)
explain that the brain structures affected by the disease are known as the substantia nigra and the basal
ganglia. The role of the basal ganglia is to provide control of fine motor movements. What happens
with PD, is there is a loss of dopamine producing neurons from the substantia nigra which causes a
deficiency in dopamine levels. Without a sufficient amount of dopamine, there are not enough
chemical messages being transmitted to initiate, control, and balance movement of the target muscles.
It is worth noting though, that dopamine levels decrease naturally as one ages, so symptoms could
become more aggressive and prevalent the older an individual gets. Fallon et al. (2015) explains that
the dying cells contain Lewy bodies, defined as protein aggregates, which allow the disease to be
identified. However, it is still undetermined what all factors cause the degeneration of those brain cells
and PD as a whole. PD is a disease of mostly unknown etiology; however, there have been links to
various factors from environmental influences to genetics (Galifianakis Ghazinouri, 2014). First of all,
it is necessary to mention that the suspected environmental factors are hard to come by for they are
merely risk factors. Nonetheless, they are still important to

Essay on The Four Political Parties Of Canada
The Four Political Parties of Canada
In a country as vast and as culturally diverse as Canada, many different political opinions can be found
stretched across the country. From the affluent neighbourhoods of West Vancouver to the small fishing
towns located on the east coast of Newfoundland, political opinions and affiliations range from the left
wing to the right wing. To represent these varying political views, Canada has four official national
political parties to choose from: the Liberals (who are currently in power), the Progressive
Conservatives, the New Democrats, and the
Reform Party. What is particularly interesting is that none of the latter three parties compose Her
Majesty s Official Opposition in the House ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1933, the CCF had its first major convention in Regina, Saskatchewan, and the original policy
platform first proposed by the CCF was replaced by a manifesto prepared by an LSR committee and
originally drafted by a Toronto scholar, Frank
Underhill. The Regina Manifesto, as it is known as today, put emphasis on
economic planning, nationalisation of financial institutions, public utilities and natural resources,
security of tenure for farmers, a national labour code, socialised health services and greatly increased
economic powers for the central government. (Morton, p.12, 1986) As a supplement to the feverish
mood created by the convention, the Regina convention concluded by saying no CCF Government
will rest content until it has eradicated capitalism and put into operation the full programme of
socialised planning which will lead to the establishment in
Canada of the Co operative Commonwealth. (Morton, p.12, 1986). The CCF tried to garner

Grandma Gee Research Paper
Organization Development
Do you know anyone that goes above and beyond what they are called to do? I certainly do, my
grandma gee. She always finds a way to make people smile and laugh. For starters she volunteers at
numerous places spending hours of her time helping others. Additionally, she will do anything for
anyone. Name it and she will do it. Gee has the biggest heart and the best attitude towards anything
she does. When she finds out I just have a cold she will call me and make sure that I am okay. God
gave me the best grandma in the world and I am so lucky.
Gee volunteers like a crazy person. Whenever I go to her house (typically on Sundays) her calendar is
jam packed with things to do. Every day of the week there is something new on the list. She
volunteers at the zoo, hospice, a place called the closet where she sorts and gives clothes to people that
are struggling, and at her church where she teaches class during mass to ... Show more content on

She is such a generous person. Every year on Christmas she buys us Dollywood season passes. There
are so many things that she does for us and I m so grateful. She will share anything you can imagine.
If you say ohhh your ice cream looks good she will give it to you. That s just one example of things
she does. Gee is such an humble person with a freat love of God.
Overall Gee does so many things that make her who she is. She is beyond an incredible person and
she does so many things that a lot of people can t do. She inspires me to work hard and keep trying no
matter what. I hope I can be like her when I m older. I just wanted to thank my grandma for

Personal Narrative-Running Team
There is a certain breaking point.
A point where one can only take so much before the fear eats away viciously at the soul. Slowly
tearing away its prey bit by bit, until the victim can t take it anymore. A point where all of the
nervousness builds up and tips the glass jar over, and all those feelings that you were keeping bundled
up inside spill out. A point where shaking has made your legs move so fiercely that they feel like jello,
and with one stab they could be pierced and broken. A point where your heart has grown a pair of
wings, and is flapping frantically to escape the cage that denies its freedom and ability to feel at ease.

My legs struck the ground, piercing the track with every step they took. My eyes blurred out the
crowd and all the other athletes standing on either side of me, behind me, in front me. My ears and
mind cleansed themselves of all the screams and fears and doubts, and I ran like I had never run
before. It felt so surreal, almost as if I was in a dream almost as if I wasn t running at all. I recall the
mere 10 seconds ago where my legs had trouble calming down, and not wobbling with every step I
took. The sounds of the other runners behind me were undetectable, and in that moment it was just me
running against myself. I reared around the corner, Only 50 meters to go , and that s when it actually
hit me I was running. Was it really almost over? I really already ran around the track and had not even
noticed I even started? The finish line was so close now, vibrant white promising letters sprawled
across its surface 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 one. I saw our last relay runner waving her arm frantically in the air so
I could see her it was crunch time. I took on speed as my feet yearned to pierce hard into the surface of
the ground, all the way across the finish line, and struck the baton into the next runners awaiting
fingers, and she zoomed ahead. My feet took me off to the side, recalling what I had just done, that it
was just 30 seconds of my life and now it s over. I

Since the successful demonstration of second harmonic generation by a propagation of a ruby laser
beam via a quartz crystal by Franken et al,1 borate materials have been widely studied to employ in
the potential applications such as nonlinear optics (NLO) and laser (mainly in visible and UV light)
engineering.2, 3, 4, 5 Materials with NLO properties are useful for generating new frequency laser
sources that cannot be directly produced from the common laser sources.2 Consequently, NLO
materials have enabled a wider range of frequencies produced from the available laser. Borate
materials have a few great properties, for example, short growth period, high damage threshold, large
effective nonlinear coefficient and good mechanical properties.6 This suggests that borate materials
are well fitted for the purpose of laser frequency conversion. BaB2O4, LiB3O5, CsB3O5 and
YCa4(BO3)3O are examples of well known borate based NLO crystals.2 An early review on the
comparison of the damage threshold and optical transmittance of these mentioned borate crystal
compounds have been done by Becker in which the use of the favourable anionic group and
birefringence in the borate materials are the essential features needed to produce

Opposition to Leakers
Are government whistleblowers acting in the public interest, or do they endanger the public by
exposing classified information? Just as government transparency has waned in recent years, there
have been several instances of very public national intelligence whistle blowing. Large scale leaks
such as those published by The Guardian and WikiLeaks have prompted debate on issues of
government secrecy, as well as the balance between security and liberty. High profile whistleblowers
like Bradley Manning, Julian Assange, and Edward Snowden have, at great personal risk, leaked
classified information to the public in the interest of transparency. Leaked media and documents range
from embarrassing, to potentially dangerous. Heightened levels of ... Show more content on

New York Times reporters James Risen and Eric Lichtblau were awarded the Pulitzer Prize; Drake
was indicted under the espionage act (Wise). The NSA came under scrutiny again in 2013 when
Edward Snowden revealed large scale data collection and surveillance programs.
As history can attest, government whistleblowers act honorably for the greater good despite threat of
prosecution. Government transparency, especially in acts of war, is important to a functioning
democracy. J. William Leonard, former US classifications czar, In the documentary We Steal Secrets:
The Story of WikiLeaks, illustrates, To have those types of decisions, those types of deliberations,
done in secrecy is a tremendous disservice to the American people because these are things being done
in their name so, whether you agree with them or not, to have a free back and forth airing of these is
essential . In support of these concepts, those behind WikiLeaks and other government leaks have
taken great risks. Birgitta Jonsdottir, member of WikiLeaks and Icelandic parliament, stated, We were
working on something that we knew that could get us into serious trouble and we were all willing to
take that consequence ( We Steal Secrets ). In We Steal Secrets, instant messages between Bradley

are more likely to get lung cancer compared to white men. There are several diseases that strike or
target African Americans, it may be a genetic or a non genetic health issue, but very common to them.
Non genetic diseases that are more common within the African Americans are lung diseases, heart
diseases, and diabetes. A genetic disorder would be sickle cell anemia. While they affect other races as
well, african americans are more likely to get them. Lung diseases in african americans vary from

Type two diabetes is a condition that affects the way the body produces blood sugar, glucose. Diabetes
is 60% more common in black americans than white americans. DeNoon mentioned that they are also
2.5 times more likely to suffer a limb amputation. Most people with type two diabetes do not know
they have it or recognize the early signs. Some common early signs and symptoms are increased thirst
and hunger, frequent urination or urinary tract infections and also blurred vision. It is not a genetic
disorder but can be associated by older relatives whom were diagnosed. A reason why diabetes gets
worse to an african american rather than a white american is because many of them are in a high crime
neighborhood location. They cannot just walk out and exercise because they simply just don t feel safe
to do so. They don t have a decent local grocery with fresh vegetables and fruits. Regular exercise and

Reasons to Turn Someone Down
You should write a letter of recommendation only if you can honestly write a supportive letter for
someone for a given position. After all, a letter of recommendation is supposed to be a tool for helping
people obtain what they are after. If you don t know the candidate well enough to write a good letter,
let the person know. He or she will probably ask someone else. If you do know the candidate well but
have some reservations, let the person know about your concerns, and leave it up to him or her to
decide whether you should still write the letter.
PREPARATION
Read Some Sample Letters
If you have never written a letter of recommendation before, read a stack of reference letters to see
what works and what doesn t. Most faculty have access to graduate student applications and the letters
submitted. Junior faculty can also ask their more experienced colleagues to share sample letters they
have written or have received from applicants (blocking out names and other personal information).
The resource section of this chapter provides links to sample letters.
Collect Information
Once you know what a letter of recommendation looks like, make sure you find out as much as
possible about the candidate for whom you are writing. One of the worst things you can do is to write
a letter that is too generic. Ask for the following information:
T i p : When reading a sample

Comparing Organic Farming and Conventional Farming
There are many evidences exist that due to conversion of conventional to organic farming, producers
have received better yield, on the contrary, many reviewed findings show that in conversion period,
farmers have gained lower yield. Many researchers evidences have also revealed that, in the long
term, organic farming system may work to enhance agricultural productivity (Hoque, 2012). For
instance, in many developing countries, significant amount of yield rises in crops and fruits in terms of
organic farming projects. These achievements are varied with soil fertility management procedures
such as proper composting, green manure, cover crops, legumes culture, crop rotation, organic
fertilizer application and other soil conservation practices (Zundel and Kilcher, 2007).
The average yield of organic farming over all crops was 75% of conventional crop yield. The main
reason for low yield in organic farming was insufficient availability of nutrient. Input energy
consumption in organic farming was 21% lower than conventional farming. Lower energy inputs in
organic farming were mainly due to the low use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides (Tuomisto et al.,
2012). The individual yield in organic crops are on average 80% of conventional crops and the
average yield gap between organic and conventional farming is more than 20% (De Ponti et al., 2012).
The yield from organic Chinese kale was approximately 5 times lower than conventional Chinese
kale. The higher yield in

The effect of ink on termite behavior
Abstract
Termites produce special chemicals within their bodies called pheromones. Because termites are
usually found inside dark areas, pheromones help them communicate in these places. Past studies have
suggested that ink inside ballpoint pens contains pheromones, causing termites to follow any trail
created by the ink. If a pathway is drawn with an ink pen, then a termite will be attracted to the path
and trace it due to the pheromones. To test the behavior of termites in relation with the presence of
ink, we outlined two shapes with two different writing utensils and timed how long out of a sixty
second time period that the termite spent on each path. The results showed ... Show more content on

Our null hypothesis is that if a pathway is drawn with anything other than ink, the termite will not be
attracted to it and will not follow the path drawn.
Methods
Two circles were drawn directly across from each other on plain white paper. One was drawn with a
black Sharpie marker, and the other was drawn with a black ballpoint pen. Three separate termites
were dropped directly in the middle of the two circles, and their reactions were recorded for sixty
seconds. This was repeated once for each termite.
Results
The average time calculated for time spent on the pen outline was 26.9 seconds. The average time
spent on the Sharpie marker outline was 2.4 seconds. The p value was calculated to be 0.000309 for
the pen and 0.000214 for the Sharpie. The standard deviation for the pen was found to be 25.66 and
3.97 for the Sharpie.
Figure 1. Average Time Spent on Each Writing Utensil per 60 Seconds. Error bars represent one
standard deviation above and below the mean.
Discussion
The results of this experiment support the idea that termites are drawn to follow the pheromones
released from the ink in ballpoint pens rather than paths drawn with other writing utensils. The data
collected shows that the majority of the termites spent a majority of the timed sixty seconds tracing the
outline of the pen as opposed to the outline of the Sharpie marker. The ink

Jean Rhys s Wide Sargasso Sea
Jean Rhys s Wide Sargasso Sea attempts to prove just how closely intertwined dreams and reality are.
Rhys meticulously weaves dreams into real life, ultimately creating a novel that conjures a very
ethereal truth. Trying to draw the line between what is real and what is fake is nearly impossible and,
by the end of the novel, the reader is left in a state of lucid uncertainty. Rhys s clever use of slumber in
Wide Sargasso Sea reveals an enhanced sense of character progression, the inevitability of fate and
deeply rooted self reflexivity, all of which create a novel predicated on doubleness and variability.
Antoinette s narrative throughout the novel can best be charted with a close attention to her
reoccurring sequence of dreams. Just as Antionette is locked up in the physical realm she too is
entrapped in her own mind by the dreams that envelop her. Antionette s first encounter with this
recurring dream occurs when she is very young. Antionette describes the dream by saying, I dreamed
that I was walking in the forest. Not alone. Someone who hated me was with me, out of sight. I could
hear heavy footsteps coming closer and though I struggled and screamed, I could not move. I woke
crying (15). Rhys s deliberateness of placing this dream in the past tense greatly distances Antoinette
from the dream itself it occurred well into the past and Antoinette s world is much different now.
Distance is also created through Antionette s naiveté to the implications of the dream.

How Is Oedipus A Tragic Hero

downfall, when describing a tragic hero. Throughout history, there have been many literary tragic
heroes: Hamlet from Shakespeare s Hamlet, Romeo from Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, and even
Jay Gatsby from F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. Often times, when discussing tragic heroes,
the Theban tragedy of Oedipus Rex and his family is brought up. The tragic hero, Oedipus Rex was
the heir to the throne of Thebes who was prophecized to kill his father and marry his mother. Due to
this, he was abandoned at birth by his birth parents and adopted. Believing this prophecy would cause

that stems from his role of King and his stubborn mindset. Creon s pride was so strong that he could

Neither Antigone or Creon, nor any other person in history, is perfectly virtuous or perfectly

Euthyphro And Pious Analysis
First Reading Response
Socrates meets Euthyphro outside of the courthouse and begin discussing the nature of impious and
pious acts. Euthyphro claims to be an expert on these matters so he agrees to help Socrates understand
piety better. Euthyphro s first definition is the pious is to do what I am doing now, to prosecute the
wrongdoer, be it about murder. (5d) Socrates objects to this saying that this would only counts as an
instance of piety, and he is more interested in a universal element of all pious acts. Euthyphro
elaborates to say that piety is what all the gods love, and impiety is what all the gods hate. (6e)
Socrates rebukes that there are matters that some of the gods love, while other gods may hate. Socrates
objects saying that gods disagree on issues, and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Euthyphro then offers a third definition; Piety is what all the gods love, and Impiety is what all the
gods hate. (9d) Socrates opens up his objection by asking is the pious being loved by the gods because
it is pious, or is it pious because it is being loved by the gods? (10a) This is the premise to his
argument about the difference in being loved and loving something. To explain his point further
Socrates uses numerous examples of carrying and being carried. To be carried one must first be
carrying something. The same goes for verbs that affect others, for instance to be seen one must first
be seeing something. The carrying must be going on before something can be called carried. So
something is loved when someone is loving it. It cannot be loved before something has loved it.
Euthyphro agrees that the pious is being loved by the gods because it is pious. Socrates then looks to

Physics Of A Dc Electric Eld
In a DC electric field, charged particles moves to an electrode that has anwith opposite polarity. In an
AC electric field, charged particles oscillate, and their amplitudes are determined by the amount of the
total particle charge. The oscillation amplitude of the charged particle is proportional to the amount of
the charge density (q) and the applied voltage (E), and is inversely proportional to the radius of the
particle (r), the medium viscosity (η), or the applied frequency (f) [28]. When E, η, r, and f are
constant values, the amplitude d of the particle is simply related to the charge density q . In this case,
analyzing the amplitude of the oscillating particle under the AC electric field has the same meaning

An AC electric field was applied to a sample containing the fluorescent microspheres, and the
oscillation amplitudes of the fluorescent microspheres were observed by using a fluorescent
fluorescence microscope (TE2000 U, Nikon). The continuous CCD images were recorded in a

was calculated as the average of one way distances [28]. The amplitudes of the 10 different
microspheres were individually measured, and an the average of these amplitudes was used as the

Preventable hospital readmissions remain among one of the many serious quality issues plaguing the
healthcare industry today. Readmissions can carry fiscal implications, impact patient safety, and
outcomes of care (Helm, Alaeddini, Bretthauer, Skolarus, 2016). The cost of unplanned hospital
readmissions is estimated to be upwards of $15 billion dollars annually of which $12 billion has been
associated with preventable admissions (Helm et al., 2016). It is highly recognized that as many as

Additionally, reviewers correlated the following information: site of hospitalization, type of admission
(i.e. surgical, medical, or behavioral health), the complexity of the hospitalization, and the age of the
patient. After obtaining the necessary data, reviewers worked on determining the frequency of post
discharge ED visits that resulted in readmission, and the factors associated with each ED visit.
MTF Action Plan
With a goal to obtain a 33% reduction in ED utilization by recently discharged patients, the MTF
devised the following strategies to facilitate care transitions and improve communication from
inpatient units to clinics and between clinics and patients. Collectively the interventions were
recognized as Project Red Light and consisted of developing a Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant process for sharing acute care admission/discharge
information with appropriate clinics and outpatient providers as well as scheduling follow up
appointments prior to discharge or by the next business day following discharge. Other program
interventions involved utilizing a multi disciplinary approach to discharge planning consisting of input
from Care Coordinators, Primary Care Managers, Social Workers, and Discharge Planners.

The Key Causes Of The Great Depression
The Great Depression The great depression is one of the most severe international economic crises
that preside after the Great War and before World War 2. The key factors that were considered to be
the cause of the depression were overproduction and underconsumption.
The boom and bust
The rapid economic expansion or the Jazz Age brought great tides and social changes in the U.S.
However, the Roaring Twenties ended with hints of depressions and leaded to the stock market crash

How Did Pope John Paul Changed The World
St. Pope John Paul the Second There has been many different saints throughout history who have
changed the world by helping the poor and sick. Some of these saints include St. Vincent De Paul, St.
Benedict of Nursia, and St. Giles; however most of these saints did their good deeds one hundred or
more years ago. In the past century some people were inspired by these people of the past and decided
to continue the work that theses saints started. One of the most important people who heard the call
and gave up their life in order to follow it is St. Pope John Paul the Second. St. Pope John Paul the
Second was born on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice, Poland (Blakemore). His birth name was Karol Józef

The Epidemic Is Sweeping The Nation
An epidemic is sweeping the nation. Rapidly more cases of STD s are being noted to appropriate
health officials and are steadily increasing instead of declining. The Centers for Disease Control,
commonly known as the CDC, have vigorously tracked HIV numbers and an estimated 1,218,400
persons aged 13 years and older are living with the HIV infection ( HIV in The United States: At A
Glance ). This doesn t include the amount of people clueless to being infected at all: a whopping
156,300. Discouragingly and surprisingly enough, a factor contributing to this number is that people
aren t being informed when they engage in relations with another person who has the virus. The risk
of transmission from one to the other is excruciatingly high if one party isn t given the opportunity to
take the appropriate precautions to protect themselves. Furthermore, when a person is warned that
their partner has a transmittable disease, they aren t really equipped to make an informative decision
because of lack of information. Every citizen has an undeniable duty to take action to reduce the
spread of STD s in Arizona so that eventually these harmful diseases can be altogether eradicated for
future generations to come.

Summary OfThe Assault By Harry Mulisch
In The Assault , the author, Harry Mulisch, depicts Anton Steenwijk as the protagonist, who witnesses
the violence at the night of the assault. In the subsequent years, Anton distances himself from the truth
of the assault due to his traumatic experience, his incomplete knowledge towards the event, and his
sorrowful memories. The traumatic experience makes Anton reluctant to go back to Haarlem, where
the violent assault takes place. The assault gives Anton a strike, and many times in the story, he
pledges never to go back to Haarlem. For example: He shouldn t have come; he should never have
returned to Haarlem. He should have buried all that, the way one buries the dead (Mulisch 61). It can
be inferred that deep in Anton s mind, what happens at that night is the most horrible moment to him,
and such unforgettable memories remind him of never coming back. The parallel structure here shows
a complex mindset that Anton has when he hesitates to return to Haarlem. The author uses consecutive
should and shouldn t stresses this tone. The all that here probably means all the tragic events happen in
Haarlem, including both the assault and deprivation of Anton s parents. Also, the author uses an
analogy, that Anton should forget all the things in Haarlem and never think about them again, because
it is a disgraceful memory of Anton, just like someone should bury the dead to wipe away the
mournful memories. Besides, Anton swears never to go back to Haarlem even if a job offers him a
hundred thousand gulden a year. (61) This shows Anton is resolved not to go back to Haarlem. His
reluctance to return is quite logical: Haarlem is a place teeming with unjoyful memories, and a place
where his house is burnt, and his parents are lost. Who likes to return to a place where such sorrowful
recollection flows? It is the presence of his traumatic experience that haunts Anton and holds him
from going back and seeing the place again. In the aftermath of the violent assault, Anton develops a
psychological distance that makes him too sorrowful to accept the truth. The sorrow of his can be seen
when Anton meets his former neighbor, Karin. As Once more the old bitterness welled up, the
inexhaustible bitterness. Was he meant to

Accrual Accounting And Cash-Flow Accounting Principles
The fundamental accounting principle that firms are compelled to follow when presenting their
performances of a certain period is based on earnings, not realised cash flows. That is, recording a
transaction as it happens regardless of the collection of cash which involved in it (Marshall,
McManus Viele, 2014, p.18). The notions that the use of accrual accounting in measuring a firm s
performance would provide higher quality and accuracy than cash flow accounting is addressed by
Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in a statement in 1978. They affirmed the concept in

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) suggested that firm performance is measured
more accurately by using accrual accounting instead of cash flow accounting. The main reason to
adopt accrual accounting as a standard when reporting earnings is that it measures short term firm
performance better, as it efficiently mitigates timing and matching problem in cash flow accounting.
Another fact that supports accrual accounting is that earnings has proven to be a better indication of
future share returns and share prices. However, the costs of adopting accrual accounting are firm make
assumptions and estimations when recorded the information. There are intentional errors, such as
managements manipulate the classifications of the data in their preferences. Also, the unintentional
errors will arise especially in the firm which have long operating cycle and/or the firms that have huge
fluctuations in working capital requirements. The disadvantages will thus reduce the beneficial role of
accrual accounting. The importance of cash flow accounting is that it helps the public inspect the firm
s short term solvency. Also, cash flows accounting prevent the errors caused by firm management
deliberately manipulate over recording accounting data. Therefore, the information that accrual
accounting and cash flow accounting provided are incremental to each other in explaining firm

The Beat Movement And Kerouac s On The Road
The beat movement is expressed the social and literary nonconformity of artists, poets, and writers.
The word beat originally meant weary but came to refer as well to a musical beat. Followers of this
movement, called beats or beatniks, lived nonconformist lives. They tended to shun regular work and
sought a higher consciousness through Zen Buddhism, music, and, sometimes, drugs. Works that
capture the essence of this era include Allen Ginsberg s long, free verse poem, Howl, published in
1956, and Jack Kerouac s novel of the movement, On the Road, published in 1957.
Alan Freed s listeners responded enthusiastically, and Freed began promoting the new music that grew
out of rhythm and blues and country and pop. He called the music rock n roll. In the early and mid
1950s, Richard Penniman, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and His Comets, and especially Elvis Presley
brought rock n roll to a frantic pitch of popularity among the newly affluent teens who bought their
records. Elvis Presley, the unofficial King of Rock n Roll, first developed his musical style by singing

While the setting of the novel, Barcelona, was essentially the center of the deadly Spanish Civil War,
when the author Zafón was writing the story, Barcelona (along with the rest of Spain) was engaged in
what was known as the pact of silence (Bethune 65). This pact of silence was fragile in every nature,
with citizens and government members alike choosing to keep quiet and not to stir the national
demons. Following several years of civil war, Spain was placed under the dictatorial rule of Francisco
Franco, who remained dictator until his death in 1975 (Bethune 65). It was after Franco s death that

Thanksgiving Day was first celebrated in colonial times in the New England. When the Pilgrims
landed their ships at Plymouth Rock in the year 1621, they needed the help of the neighboring Native

Analysis Of The Film The Basement Of The Grand Cafe Des...
Cinematograph story began on December 28, 1895 in the basement of the Grand Cafe des Capucines
Boulevard in Paris. The creators of this invention were Gustav and Antoine Lumiere. The film uses the
illusion of the human eye, the reading sequence in rapid succession, still images, in which subjects
slightly change shape and position, as a single image showing the change in location or shape of these
objects. In the same time Freud started his new movement in psychology by publication Studies in
hysteria . The film is a kind of delusion hung on between the real world and the illusion just like a
dream. Therefore, this form of artistic expression has been linked immediately with psychoanalysis.
Cinema and psychoanalysis had a huge influence on the development of perception and view of the
contemporary artistic expression, science and technology. Through close to human awareness as its
recipient and participant featured content of these two types of expression of human emotions merged
towards the end of the nineteenth century. Lou Andreas Salome wrote The movies really play a role of
no small significance for us at February 1913, he also added and this is not the first time I have
thought about this fact (Andreas Salome 1987: 101). Metz in his book, which he titled In the social

Child Rearing Controversy
There are numerous philosophies on how to raise children. Several parents adopt the concepts their
own parents used, others seek advice from friends and there are those that read books about parenting.
Parents come in various and diverse forms, each approaching parenting in ways as distinct as their
personalities. Philosophies on child rearing can be grouped into two styles; authoritarian, authoritative
parenting. These two styles are similar sounding, but have nuanced differences. Authoritarian parents
hold their children to an exceedingly high level of status and success. In this style of parenting,
children are expected to follow the strict rules established by the parents. Failure in following rules
typically results in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using authoritative parenting style requires setting boundaries while still being able to listen and be
patient with the child. Here is an example of the authoritarian parenting style: A child is caught hitting
their playmate. The parent responds by grabbing the child and spanking them without any explanation
of why hitting is immoral. Thus punishing the child with the same misconduct the child has committed
results in mocking of the punishment behavior. Using authoritarian style requires the ability to be
dominantly harsh while giving punishment without an explanation. There are abundant differences in
these two styles, but the most significant discrepancy is in the end product: the children. An
authoritative parent will preserve the love and respect of his children and, when they reach adulthood,
they will continue this custom with their own children. An authoritative parent will know he has done
his job well in the raising of those children, because the relationships that were built will incessantly
last. The parents who choose a benign approach will obtain the rewards of having children that will be
the ones who have a good work ethic and who succeed in school because they wish to please their
parents. The parents who choose to rule by fear will see quite dissimilar results: their children are
probable to react out of that terror, which will only last as long as they are young;

  • 2. Theme Of Educating Rita Education is a powerful tool that holds different meanings and uses for everyone. To some, it s simply a 13 to 17 year hurdle before beginning your real life. For others who understand it s possibilities, like Rita, it could be a key to a whole new world. Educating Rita is the story of a young hairstylist with a desire for a different life. She seems doomed to live the life everyone expects her to; to get married, have children and, well, that s pretty much it, but Rita has a craving for knowledge and self advancement. Like her mother says as they sing in the pub, Rita believes, There must be better songs to sing than this. So she goes back to school with uncertainty, despite her husband s insecurities and objections, because to Rita ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning, Rita presents as a young, lower class woman, dressed in what might be considered as less than conservative clothing, with blond hair and colored highlights. Although, as her academic achievement progresses, and when she returns from London, her appearance is shown as more refined, with more modest clothing, and single toned hair. She seems more comfortable in the world of higher education. And though she struggled to choose appropriate clothing and classy wine for a dinner party at first, she now prides herself in finally being able to say, I know what clothes to wear, what wine to buy, what plays to see, what papers and books to read. Rita s newfound confidence displays again when she is late to a tutorial because she stops to discuss literature with a group of students, where before she feared that her opinions wouldn t sound educated enough. On her trek for knowledge, Rita is introduced to worlds and perspectives that she might not otherwise have experienced, and the new understanding she gains helps prepare her and therefore gives her more confidence, to adapt to a situation easier. Upon her return, Rita moves in with a woman named Trish. To her, Trish defines elegance. What Rita doesn t know, is that Trish has troubles of her own. When Trish attempts suicide, Rita sees that even the most advanced people have demons. Rita asks Trish why she tried to kill herself and Trish responds, When I listen to ... These tribes however aided Caesar s enemies, thus the need to invade Britain. But it wasn t until a hundred years later that the Romans actually ruled Roman Britain, thanks to the defenses of the Celtic tribes. Culture The Romans brought culture to Ancient Britain. They built brick and stone buildings with central heating, sewage systems, paved roads, libraries etc. The Romans also brought their language to Britain: Latin. Housing The floor on which someone lived depended on his or her income. The lower apartments ground or first floor were more comfortable than the top floors. They were spacious, had separate rooms for dining and sleeping, they had windows and had access to running water. The higher floors however usually housed an entire family per room. There was no natural light, no running water and thus no private toilets. Instead, they often had to use public toilets, or dump their waste outside. The wealthiest residents lived in private villas, close to the imperial palace. They consisted of a shop at the front of the villa, and an atrium connected to many ... Kassin Within the criminal forensic field, there has been a shift in research dealing with DNA exoneration and placing guilt of a crime on the legitimate perpetrator. This scholarly article outlines the implications of DNA exoneration and false confessions, specifically the methods that are used to coerce an individual into confessing falsely. The risk factors for a false confession that are discussed include; interrogation technique such as lengthy sessions, presentations of false evidence, and minimization themes that imply leniency which increase the risk that innocent people will confess. Also researched is vulnerable individuals, notably, those with mental health problems or intellectual impairments, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the authors research, it is believed that there are multiple steps to having an individual confess in beliefs that they truly committed a crime, even though they did not. The steps include: a trigger, plausibility, acceptance, reconstruction and resolution all of which fall in line with the faulty interrogation techniques previously mentioned; coercive interviewing, lengthy solitary confinement, contamination, psychological vulnerabilities (both state and trait) and lack of independent support during questioning. Accordingly, the above mentioned methods could lead to a faulty memory and result in false confessions. The main purpose of an interrogation is to obtain a confession and a popular tool used within this area of investigation is the Reid technique. The Reid Technique is said to be the most frequently used form of interrogation in North America (TEXTBOOK CITE). The technique originated from a polygrapher in Chicago named John. E Reid. The methods were later published in a book in 2001 titled, Criminal Interrogation and Confessions (TEXTBOOK CITE). According to a study, the Reid technique has been a guide for over 300,000 police investigators since 1974 (TEXTBOOK CITE). By assessing the credibility in multiple steps and stages, an investigator aims to obtain a confession using the Reid technique. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How will an individual know if they will be diagnosed with it in their lifetime? The list of enquiries one might present is endless. However, before even attempting to answer any questions, it is essential to understand the disease as a whole. In order to do so, grasping basic background information as well as data on PD is necessary. Following that, discussing material regarding the science behind the disease will provide a deeper understanding when examining the subsequent etiologies, signs, and symptoms. From a historical perspective, PD was first described in 1817 by James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to understand the possible etiology and the signs and symptoms, it is important to first recognize the science of PD and what happens neurologically. Nolden, Tartavoulle, and Porche (2014) explain that the brain structures affected by the disease are known as the substantia nigra and the basal ganglia. The role of the basal ganglia is to provide control of fine motor movements. What happens with PD, is there is a loss of dopamine producing neurons from the substantia nigra which causes a deficiency in dopamine levels. Without a sufficient amount of dopamine, there are not enough chemical messages being transmitted to initiate, control, and balance movement of the target muscles. It is worth noting though, that dopamine levels decrease naturally as one ages, so symptoms could become more aggressive and prevalent the older an individual gets. Fallon et al. (2015) explains that the dying cells contain Lewy bodies, defined as protein aggregates, which allow the disease to be identified. However, it is still undetermined what all factors cause the degeneration of those brain cells and PD as a whole. PD is a disease of mostly unknown etiology; however, there have been links to various factors from environmental influences to genetics (Galifianakis Ghazinouri, 2014). First of all, it is necessary to mention that the suspected environmental factors are hard to come by for they are merely risk factors. Nonetheless, they are still important to ... Borate materials have a few great properties, for example, short growth period, high damage threshold, large effective nonlinear coefficient and good mechanical properties.6 This suggests that borate materials are well fitted for the purpose of laser frequency conversion. BaB2O4, LiB3O5, CsB3O5 and YCa4(BO3)3O are examples of well known borate based NLO crystals.2 An early review on the comparison of the damage threshold and optical transmittance of these mentioned borate crystal compounds have been done by Becker in which the use of the favourable anionic group and birefringence in the borate materials are the essential features needed to produce ... Comparing Organic Farming and Conventional Farming There are many evidences exist that due to conversion of conventional to organic farming, producers have received better yield, on the contrary, many reviewed findings show that in conversion period, farmers have gained lower yield. Many researchers evidences have also revealed that, in the long term, organic farming system may work to enhance agricultural productivity (Hoque, 2012). For instance, in many developing countries, significant amount of yield rises in crops and fruits in terms of organic farming projects. These achievements are varied with soil fertility management procedures such as proper composting, green manure, cover crops, legumes culture, crop rotation, organic fertilizer application and other soil conservation practices (Zundel and Kilcher, 2007). The average yield of organic farming over all crops was 75% of conventional crop yield. The main reason for low yield in organic farming was insufficient availability of nutrient. Input energy consumption in organic farming was 21% lower than conventional farming. Lower energy inputs in organic farming were mainly due to the low use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides (Tuomisto et al., 2012). The individual yield in organic crops are on average 80% of conventional crops and the average yield gap between organic and conventional farming is more than 20% (De Ponti et al., 2012). Because termites are usually found inside dark areas, pheromones help them communicate in these places. Past studies have suggested that ink inside ballpoint pens contains pheromones, causing termites to follow any trail created by the ink. If a pathway is drawn with an ink pen, then a termite will be attracted to the path and trace it due to the pheromones. Three separate termites were dropped directly in the middle of the two circles, and their reactions were recorded for sixty seconds. This was repeated once for each termite. Results The average time calculated for time spent on the pen outline was 26.9 seconds. The average time spent on the Sharpie marker outline was 2.4 seconds. • 17. Jean Rhys s Wide Sargasso Sea Jean Rhys s Wide Sargasso Sea attempts to prove just how closely intertwined dreams and reality are. Rhys meticulously weaves dreams into real life, ultimately creating a novel that conjures a very ethereal truth. Trying to draw the line between what is real and what is fake is nearly impossible and, by the end of the novel, the reader is left in a state of lucid uncertainty. Rhys s clever use of slumber in Wide Sargasso Sea reveals an enhanced sense of character progression, the inevitability of fate and deeply rooted self reflexivity, all of which create a novel predicated on doubleness and variability. Antoinette s narrative throughout the novel can best be charted with a close attention to her reoccurring sequence of dreams. Just as Antionette is locked up in the physical realm she too is entrapped in her own mind by the dreams that envelop her. Antionette s first encounter with this recurring dream occurs when she is very young. Antionette describes the dream by saying, I dreamed that I was walking in the forest. Not alone. Someone who hated me was with me, out of sight. I could hear heavy footsteps coming closer and though I struggled and screamed, I could not move. I woke crying (15). Rhys s deliberateness of placing this dream in the past tense greatly distances Antoinette from the dream itself it occurred well into the past and Antoinette s world is much different now. Distance is also created through Antionette s naiveté to the implications of the dream. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Euthyphro claims to be an expert on these matters so he agrees to help Socrates understand piety better. (5d) Socrates objects to this saying that this would only counts as an instance of piety, and he is more interested in a universal element of all pious acts. Euthyphro elaborates to say that piety is what all the gods love, and impiety is what all the gods hate. (10a) This is the premise to his argument about the difference in being loved and loving something. To explain his point further Socrates uses numerous examples of carrying and being carried. To be carried one must first be carrying something. The same goes for verbs that affect others, for instance to be seen one must first be seeing something. The carrying must be going on before something can be called carried. So something is loved when someone is loving it. It cannot be loved before something has loved it. Some of these saints include St. Vincent De Paul, St. Benedict of Nursia, and St. Giles; however most of these saints did their good deeds one hundred or more years ago. In the past century some people were inspired by these people of the past and decided to continue the work that theses saints started. One of the most important people who heard the call and gave up their life in order to follow it is St. Pope John Paul the Second. St. Pope John Paul the Second was born on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice, Poland (Blakemore). His birth name was Karol Józef Wojtyła (Blakemore), but he later changed it after he became the Pope. When he was a young adult World War two started and Poland was invaded by the Nazis. He had to flee Poland with a bunch of other people and only returned after Russia took the land over from Germany. Soon after all of this happened the war ended and that is when he decided to become a priest. St. John Paul became a priest in 1946 after the war ended and went to Rome to study philosophy. • 26. The Epidemic Is Sweeping The Nation An epidemic is sweeping the nation. Rapidly more cases of STD s are being noted to appropriate health officials and are steadily increasing instead of declining. The Centers for Disease Control, commonly known as the CDC, have vigorously tracked HIV numbers and an estimated 1,218,400 persons aged 13 years and older are living with the HIV infection ( HIV in The United States: At A Glance ). This doesn t include the amount of people clueless to being infected at all: a whopping 156,300. Discouragingly and surprisingly enough, a factor contributing to this number is that people aren t being informed when they engage in relations with another person who has the virus. The risk of transmission from one to the other is excruciatingly high if one party isn t given the opportunity to take the appropriate precautions to protect themselves. Furthermore, when a person is warned that their partner has a transmittable disease, they aren t really equipped to make an informative decision because of lack of information. Every citizen has an undeniable duty to take action to reduce the spread of STD s in Arizona so that eventually these harmful diseases can be altogether eradicated for future generations to come. • 27. Summary OfThe Assault By Harry Mulisch In The Assault , the author, Harry Mulisch, depicts Anton Steenwijk as the protagonist, who witnesses the violence at the night of the assault. In the subsequent years, Anton distances himself from the truth of the assault due to his traumatic experience, his incomplete knowledge towards the event, and his sorrowful memories. The traumatic experience makes Anton reluctant to go back to Haarlem, where the violent assault takes place. The assault gives Anton a strike, and many times in the story, he pledges never to go back to Haarlem. For example: He shouldn t have come; he should never have returned to Haarlem. He should have buried all that, the way one buries the dead (Mulisch 61). It can be inferred that deep in Anton s mind, what happens at that night is the most horrible moment to him, and such unforgettable memories remind him of never coming back. The parallel structure here shows a complex mindset that Anton has when he hesitates to return to Haarlem. The author uses consecutive should and shouldn t stresses this tone. The all that here probably means all the tragic events happen in Haarlem, including both the assault and deprivation of Anton s parents. Also, the author uses an analogy, that Anton should forget all the things in Haarlem and never think about them again, because it is a disgraceful memory of Anton, just like someone should bury the dead to wipe away the mournful memories. Besides, Anton swears never to go back to Haarlem even if a job offers him a hundred thousand gulden a year. (61) This shows Anton is resolved not to go back to Haarlem. His reluctance to return is quite logical: Haarlem is a place teeming with unjoyful memories, and a place where his house is burnt, and his parents are lost. Who likes to return to a place where such sorrowful recollection flows? It is the presence of his traumatic experience that haunts Anton and holds him from going back and seeing the place again. In the aftermath of the violent assault, Anton develops a psychological distance that makes him too sorrowful to accept the truth. The sorrow of his can be seen when Anton meets his former neighbor, Karin. As Once more the old bitterness welled up, the inexhaustible bitterness. Was he meant to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is, recording a transaction as it happens regardless of the collection of cash which involved in it (Marshall, McManus Viele, 2014, p.18). The notions that the use of accrual accounting in measuring a firm s performance would provide higher quality and accuracy than cash flow accounting is addressed by Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in a statement in 1978. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) suggested that firm performance is measured more accurately by using accrual accounting instead of cash flow accounting. The main reason to adopt accrual accounting as a standard when reporting earnings is that it measures short term firm performance better, as it efficiently mitigates timing and matching problem in cash flow accounting. Another fact that supports accrual accounting is that earnings has proven to be a better indication of future share returns and share prices. However, the costs of adopting accrual accounting are firm make assumptions and estimations when recorded the information. There are intentional errors, such as managements manipulate the classifications of the data in their preferences. Also, the unintentional errors will arise especially in the firm which have long operating cycle and/or the firms that have huge fluctuations in working capital requirements. The disadvantages will thus reduce the beneficial role of accrual accounting. The importance of cash flow accounting is that it helps the public inspect the firm s short term solvency. Using authoritative parenting style requires setting boundaries while still being able to listen and be patient with the child. Here is an example of the authoritarian parenting style: A child is caught hitting their playmate. The parent responds by grabbing the child and spanking them without any explanation of why hitting is immoral. Thus punishing the child with the same misconduct the child has committed results in mocking of the punishment behavior. Using authoritarian style requires the ability to be dominantly harsh while giving punishment without an explanation. There are abundant differences in these two styles, but the most significant discrepancy is in the end product: the children. An authoritative parent will preserve the love and respect of his children and, when they reach adulthood, they will continue this custom with their own children. An authoritative parent will know he has done his job well in the raising of those children, because the relationships that were built will incessantly last.
