Rebecca By Daphne Du Maurier
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is a masterful mystery romance novel originally published in
1938. The story centers around the marriage of a young woman to Maxim de Winter, a brooding
widower caught in the shadow of his deceased wife, Rebecca. Throughout the novel, we embark
on a journey of self discovery from the vantage point of the new Mrs. de Winter. Upon arrival at
the expansive estate of her new husband, Manderley, Mrs. de Winter finds the idealistic life she d
hoped to live far from the stark reality of her new world. Through rising tensions, internal conflicts,
and the self imposed psychological stress, we watch as Mrs. de Winter transforms from an insecure
young girl into a woman with a quiet, steadying strength.

For instance, Maxim s growing distance reinforces her belief; he regrets marrying her and is still in
love with Rebecca.
Mrs. Danvers, in addition, consistently reminds Mrs. de Winter of Rebecca s preferences adding
to a growing sense of inferiority. Insecurities and self doubt already present in the new Mrs. de
Winter were an underlying part of her personality. Mrs. Van Hopper, her previous employer, would
employ me as bait to draw her prey (du Maurier. 12). Mrs. Van Hopper s treatment of her lead to an
undiagnosed case of high anxiety; the constant and unsubstantiated worry that causes significant
distress and interferes with daily life, within the young Mrs. de Winter exasperating the intensity of
Manderley (adaa.org).
Readers are able to see in intense detail the mental distress of the main character because of the
author s use of homodiegetic narration; where the narrator is talking to the readers or narrates
from within the story world (Scott 78). The story is both from the vantage point of Mrs. de
Winter as well as told by her. The fixed focalisation forces the reader to feel on her side in the
events of the story. The impressions of the readers are a reflection of how the main character views
her person. Daphne du Maurier uses a brilliantly insidious device to accomplish this; she never
gives the main character a name.
Not once in the entirety of the prose is the

Descriptive Essay On The God Of A Fish
I glance over the cliff observing the quaint town below a smile making it way on my face; I sit
down on the grass covered ground placing my legs over the edge and swigging them slowly.i
watch as the town prepared in celebration of the god of their town; they prepared fireworks on
the outskirts of the town that would give me perfect view of them going off tonight. I felt a

mouth as he beamed with content. finally caught a fish I say laughing at the end; I laugh even
harder when I see Gabriel pouting. His black and white ears folded down as he wrapped his
white fur cover arms around his chest. he turned his head away with the fish still in his mouth.

Research Methodologies

Being in this business as a researcher, you must stay focus at all times, and at this time we must
concentrate on the design strategies for each of the research methodologies. It must include
everything that can help to produce a positive research, elements of inquiry, research approaches,
and overall design of the research being conducted. We have to determine all the different types of
research methodologies that are used in doing research. We must realize the importance of
integrating the different method types so that we can continue to construct precise, decisive, and

Career Pathway Evaluation
The APhA Career Pathway Evaluation Program for Pharmacy Student was held on March 09,
2016 at carver hall by Dr. G. Lawrence Hogue. The main goal of the program was to help
students make informed decision and to help them see what pharmacy practice setting would be
a best fit. Even before taking this program, I know I would have a bright future in my career
because it can open up so many doors. I have had an idea of the different opportunities that I
would have once I earned my Pharm D. But, I was surprised to learn that there are so many
opportunities that I have not even considered. The program was eye opening, I learned that with
my personality and values, there are more than one path I can take. After attending the program, I

Analysis Of A Sound Of Thunder

Mrs. Kelley Weakely
Honors English
Period 5
9/30/15
The Coward s way A Sound of Thunder (Ray Bradbury) and The Lottery (Shirley Jackson) are
both connected through a specific quality that characters in both stories contain. That quality is
the inability to make good decisions. When faced with alarming or stressful situations, Eckels,
Travis, and the townsfolk in the lottery, make bad decisions. The townsfolk blunder through their
life, blindly following the unjust tradition to stone someone to death each year. Eckels and Travis
are both cowards, and cowards tend to make bad decisions because they are selfish. Both stories
are connected by these cowardly people that make bad decisions. The lottery townsfolk are put
under pressure by not a person, but by tradition. Tradition makes them scared, and fear blinds
people. Traditions can have many beginnings, but ones such as this, with no positive result, are
simply a terrible decision. However, the townsfolk believe in tradition, and this pressures them into
going along with this horrible idea. When Mrs. Hutchinson is chosen, she also makes a bad
decision. Fear can cause denial, which, in Mrs. Hutchinson s case, can lead to your death. Instead of
turning tail and running from her fate, she stands and lets the other townsfolk surround her, simply
saying, It isn t fair, it isn t right, (The Lottery). Then simply letting the other townsfolk kill her

Terry Gilliam s Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas
For my micro analysis I have chosen Terry Gilliam s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (US, 1998).
It is a niche film, and while initially a commercial failure, quickly developed cult status. It is a
black comedy set in the 1960s, and revolves around the protagonist Raoul Duke and his helper Dr.
Gonzo s adventures in Las Vegas, as they traverse the city in a drug induced haze.
The sequence I will be looking at in this essay is the carnival scene [31:30 38:03], which takes
place in the second act of the film. It is difficult to say this with total certainty however, as Fear and
Loathing doesn t clearly follow Field s Three Act Structure there is no obvious complication
/confrontation, but rather several loosely related situations. In this part ... Show more content on

This creates a slapstick comedy moment with Gonzo falling about while Duke attempts to help
him. The long shot dominates this moment effectively due to how much of the environment is
shown the carousel, the casino, and other potential obstacles are visible in the background,
combining to create several planes of depth and movement, producing a parallax effect and
disorientating the viewer. This shot type positions the audience to sympathise with Gonzo s
comedic struggle through the movement of the camera, spinning of the carousel and the diegetic,
fast paced carnival music it induces a dizzying sensation, allowing the viewer to understand how the
characters are feeling.
After the two manage to remove themselves from the carousel, they land in front of a group of
tourists, who recoil in horror or simply stare. This reminds the audience who may have become
adjusted to the pair s eccentric behaviour that they are still considered abnormal, even in the
carnival. The tourists could also be representative of the audience, in the sense that they can do
nothing but watch the characters in shock, unable to intervene. The medium shot used enforces that
idea, as it shows the scene from the POV eyeline of a confused

Waltham Motors Division
Question 1: Using budget data, how many motors would have to be sold for Waltham Motors
Division to breakeven?
In order to calculate the breakeven point, we use the following equation and budget data:
Breakeven Sales*Unit Price Unit Variable Cost= Fixed Costs
Breakeven=Fixed CostsUnitary Price Unitary Variable Cost
Breakeven point=260,000864000/18000 512800/18000=13,226 units
Q2. Using budget data, what was the total expected cost per unit if all manufacturing and shipping
overhead (both variable and fixed) was allocated to planned production? What was the actual per
unit cost of production and shipping?
The results for the total expected cost/unit with budget data is:

There are many reasons that might cause this inefficiency coming from the production manager or
the purchase manager, such as bad quality of the raw materials bought (which were cheaper after
all), or waste of these during the production process.
* Direct Labour variance: Unfavourable by $22.000. Again, we need to find out whether this is
Price and/or efficiency driven. We know that according to the accountant information, the actual
price is $16,4/unit while the Standard price is $16/unit. On the other hand, the Standard Quantity is
14.000 units while the actual Quantity is 246.000/16,4=15.000 units. Therefore:
* Price Variance = 240.000 246.000 = $6000 Unfavourable. This reflects the increase in medical
benefits noted by the accountant. * Efficiency Variance = 224.000 240.000 = $16.000
Unfavourable. The accountant does not mention anything that can tell for sure the reasons for this
lack of efficiency, so we can only guess some reasons such as a change in the labour force to an
unskilled one.
* Idle Time and Cleanup Time: Unfavourable by $3.000 + $1.600 respectively, might be due to
different reasons such as low efficiency in the cleanup process, or bad shape of the machines used
to manufacture the motors that turned into a lot of idle time compared to the one budgeted. The
idle time must be monitored since it can lead to further decrease of Labour

Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat Essay example
Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat
For my book report, I have chosen the novel Never Cry Wolf by Farley
Mowat. In this report I will give a brief summary of the novel as well as why I have chosen it for
my report. Finally, I will give my reactions to the novel with regards to its analysis of the place of
human beings in nature, whether the destiny of humans and nature is intertwined, and how nature
is regarded by the different religious and political philosophies demonstrated in the novel.
Never Cry Wolf is based upon the true story of the author s experiences during two years spent as a
biologist studying a family of wolves in northern
Canada during the mid nineteen fifties. When Mowat is sent on his expedition

This meant that I could more easily identify the setting and thus relate better to the author s
feelings and perceptions. Meanwhile, Siddhartha was set in India and in my mind was dated
and unreal humankind (society) seems today to have more of a desire and a need to get back to
nature and the simple life. The spirit of peace that emanates from Mowat s book allows one to
focus on what is possible when one has time to reflect In this I mean that Never Cry Wolf seemed
to hold a more meaningful message for modern times. As well I found the style of writing in the
Mowat novel to be clearer then in Siddhartha. These were some of the factors that combined to
produce a situation where Never Cry Wolf captured my attention more than Siddhartha. It was for
these reasons that I chose the novel by Farley Mowat.
In my opinion, Never Cry Wolf placed humans in the role of intruders as far as nature is concerned.
Mowat cites several instances where humans violate nature and represent a threat to its sanctity.
Even though this threat is not reciprocated by nature, humans continue to infringe upon nature and
then deny the consequences of their actions. Two prevalent examples of this occur: when
Mowat accidentally wanders into the wolves den when the wolves are there, and again when he
discovers a herd of deer that have been slaughtered by hunters.

Famine, Affluence And Morality By Peter Singer
Famine, Affluence, and Morality is a well known article written by Peter Singer that was published
in Philosophy and Public Affairs in 1972. Peter Singer is an Australian utilitarian philosopher, and
in Famine, Affluence, and Morality he argues that more fortunate people should be required to help
those in need or at least give significantly more than what is currently being given. The essay
focuses on the Great Bengal Faminethat occurred in 1971, Singer mentions how reluctant the
western world was to aid those in need and he blames it on the fact that it was a crisis that was
happening far away from the western world. One of Singer s main points is, If it is in our power to

The Conformity Of The Ego In Shakespeare s Macbeth
According to Sigmund Freud, there are three parts of the human psyche the id, the ego and the
superego. The id is the part of the mind that everyone is born with and works behind the scenes to
direct our instincts. The ego is the part of the mind that encounters our day to day lives; the ego is
responsible for quantifying the impulses of the id. The superego is the last part of the mindthat
produces one s conscience and guilt (Freud). All three of these traits of the mind are present in the
tale of Macbeth.
The tale of Macbeth written by William Shakespeare has been considered by many critics and
readers to be one of the darkest stories ever told by Shakespeare. Themes of deceit, murder,

The Political Parties Of The United States
As we all have known, our world has changed so much. It has been struggling and improving a
countless times until now to achieve this peaceful society. For example, the World War one and
two, or the Civil War which happened in many countries including the U.S. At first, people may
think these fights are unnecessary because nothing can compare to a humanbeing or an individual
life, but we cannot accomplish this community without any of them. These wars gave people a
definition about human perspective and helped individuals realize that they all have a different
mind and different belief that they need to follow. Therefore, there are a couple hundreds of
political parties have been created for people to joint in the U.S. Each party has a particular rules
and goals that they need to aim. In fact, Republican and Democracy are the two biggest parties in
this country. However, there are also many interesting other political party, and one of them is The
Canary Party which was establish in the Spring of 2011.
In recent human history, mankind has created and witnessed unprecedented changes in the balance

The Brown V. Board Of Education Essay
The Brown v. Board of Education was a case that was initiated by members of the local NAACP
(National association Advancement of Colored People) organization in Topeka, Kansas where
thirteen parents volunteered to participate of the segregation during school. Parents took their
children to schools in their neighborhoods in the summer of 1950 and attempted to enroll them
for the upcoming school year. All students were refused admission and were forced to attend one
of the four schools in the city for African Americans. For most parents and students, this involved
traveling some distance from their homes. These parents filed suit against the Topeka Board of
Education on behalf of their twenty children. Oliver Brown who was a minister, was the first
parent to suit against the problem, so the case came to be named after his last name. Three local
lawyers, Charles Bledsoe, Charles Scott and John Scott, were assisted by Robert Carter and Jack
Greenberg from the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Oliver Brown had declared that
Topeka s racial segregation violated the Constitution s Equal Protection Clause because the city s
black and white schools were not equal to each other and never could be due to the way things
were. The federal district court dismissed his claim, ruling that the segregated public schools were
substantially equal enough to be constitutional under the Plessy case doctrine. Brown appealed to
the Supreme Court, which made it more effective and then

How Did William Harvey Influence The English Renaissance...
The Renaissance was a period where innovation, inventions and discoveries were made.
Curiosity laid the foundation for many great Renaissance Change Makers. There was no
exception for the physician named William Harvey. William Harvey had a significant influence
on the English Renaissance society, in the areas of anatomy and physiology as he disproved a
1,500 year old theory of the circulation of the blood and supplied valid evidence for his theory in
the form of a book. Whether he knew it or not, William Harveys career began when he was only
ten years old. At this age, he was first introduced to medicine at Kings College Canterbury

Dora Maar s Bust Of A Woman
Pablo Picasso s muse of almost ten years, Dora Maar, was depicted many times throughout his
paintings and sculptures (Riding). In his 1941 oil on canvas painting, Bust of a Woman (Dora
Maar), Picasso looked to his muse once again for inspiration. Neither one of Picasso s most
famous, nor best paintings, Bust of a Woman still tells a story of the time and place of a
tumultuous artist muse relationship encapsulated by Picasso s surrealist expression in Nazi
occupied France during World War II. On its face, Bust of a Woman appears secular Dora Maar
is not obviously representative of any sort of entity. However, Picasso did place her on a
pedestal for a time and I wonder if he intentionally back lit her, painting the light around her head
and hair to depict a light aura or halo effect (Picasso). In the top left corner of the room, the
diagonal lines look like a spotlight in motion, beaming down upon her while drawing attention to
this somewhat negative space (Picasso). Behind Dora Maar, the three walls and ceiling are

Work Motivation Essay
An organization is a common platform where individuals from different backgrounds come
together and work as a collective unit to achieve certain objectives and targets. An organization
consists of individuals with different specializations, educational qualifications and work
experiences all working towards a common goal. Just like how every employee have different
specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences, the employees also differ in
generations called Gen X(people born in 1965 1981), Gen Y (people born in 1982 2000) and Baby
boomers(people born in 1946 1964). All these employees need work motivationin some way or the
other to perform at work place and produce desired results.
In the due course of time there are many changes in the organizations that are taking place.
Organizational changes happen due to leadership, technical changes and also due to multiple
generations working under a single roof. By these generations working under a single roof there
are many contradictions and differences right from the value systems to how each generations see
the work. So motivating each generation to achieve their goal is a huge task even for the leading
managers.
Work motivation is described as the psychological processes that direct, energize, and maintain
action toward a job, task, role, or project (Campbell Pritchard, 1976; Kanfer, 1990). Work
motivation is a set of energetic forces that originate both within as well as beyond an individual s

there will be a higher sucrose concentration in the potato chip so water will go into the potato from
the solution. I predict that when there is a high concentration of sucrose the potato will lose mass.
This is because there is a higher concentration of sucrose solution in the solution compared to that
in the potato chip so water from the potato will go into the solution to even it out.

I will measure their length with a ruler in mm and their mass on the scales in g. I will have two
potato chips in each test tube so that I can take an average of the two masses and lengths at each
concentration to make it more accurate. The independent variable will be the concentration of the
sucrose solution. I will do the experiment at five different levels of concentration; 1mol, 0.75 mol
0.5 mol, 0.25 mol, 0 mol.
Each of the solutions will be 20ml. 1mol = 20ml sucrose
0.75mol = 15ml sucrose and 5ml distilled water
0.5mol = 10ml sucrose and 10ml distilled water
0.25mol = 5ml sucrose and 15ml distilled water
0mol = 20ml distilled water
I will make sure that all the potato chips are the same length and width by cutting them with the
same borer and measuring their lengths and cutting them to all be equal. I will not leave and
potato peel on the ends of any of them as this may not let water through as easily. I will put them
all in the test tubes at the same time and get them out at the same time so as they all have the
same length of time in the solution. I will keep them all inn the same place so they all have the
same temperature and light. Once I have got them out I will gently pat them dry, as I do not want
to include the liquid on them as their mass. I will measure each of

How Successful Were the Russian Governments in Promoting...
How successful were the Russian governments in promoting economic change and modernisation
between 1881 1904?
After the Crimean War (1854 56) the econmoy in Russia slowly begun to develop.
Alexander II set the development of a railwail bulding programm and a limited spread of factories.
But Russia s economy was still not as well developed as that in western Europe. So a real
industrialisation took of in the reign of Alexander III and the help of Nicholas II s finance minsters
Ivan Vyshnegradsky and Sergei Witte.
The main point of those developments, was imporoving Russia s finances and buliding up the gold

Witte brought engeneers and managers from abroad and begun to develop the growth of the
railways and the importance of heavy industry with them. It was time an industrial revolution in
Russia.
Russia begun to nationalise the railway companies in the 1880s. By 1905 nearly 66 percen of the
whole railway system was state owned. The most important railway line was the Trans Siberian
(building 1891 1902), which crossed Russia from west (St.Petersburg) to east (
Vladivostock). Those new railway lines linked the major areas of industrial producion and those
with markets or ports.
So building these railway lines also helped the development of the industries along their length.
The development of iron and coal industries in the area of Moskow, St. Petersburg, the Baltic coast
and the Ural Mountains to the east was heavily. This industrial growth helped Russia being the
fourth largest industrail economy in those times.
However there was more trade with grain than with industrial goods.

Essay On Delirium
Delirium is a condition that is often treated by identifying and correcting the underlying etiology
(Townsend Morgan, 2017). This includes the healthcare team addressing if the patient was hypoxic,
took certain medications, or had a fluid and electrolyte imbalance that lead to the delirium
(Townsend Morgan, 2017). Medical treatment modalities for delirium involve select
pharmacological therapy for specific symptoms, but are not recommended (Townsend Morgan,
2017). Common pharmacological interventions include reducing symptoms of psychosisor
substance withdrawal (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Physicians prescribe anti psychotics such as
Haloperidol at a low dose to reduce the agitation associated with delirium (Townsend Morgan,
2017). Other medical treatment modalities for delirium include the use of anxiolytic agents such as
Benzodiazepines to reduce the occurrence of delirium associated with substance withdrawal
(Townsend Morgan, 2017). Lastly, as the delirious client becomes increasingly confused and
aggressive, other mechanical or chemical restraints may be implicated for overall safety measures

Remaining with the client will aid in orientating them to their surroundings and reduce the anxiety
associated with the confusion (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Another nursing intervention implicated
for the delirious client involves providing a calm environment with minimal stimulus (Townsend
Morgan, 2017). Obtaining a low stimulus environment will minimize distractions associated with
the delirium and maintain clients comfort (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Lastly, promoting adequate
rest is an essential nursing intervention for a delirious patient (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Often,
delirium can progress from sleep deprivation, which correlates to impaired cognition from continual
stress on brain (Townsend Morgan,

Effectiveness Of A Volunteer Team Group Structure
Our intervention occurred at the group level, where we also needed to consider the inputs, design
components and outputs in order to do group level diagnosis. Here we looked at goal clarity, task
structure, functioning of the group, composition, and performance norms. Ward s volunteer team
group structure deviated widely from most for profit companies: the design components are all
loosely defined. Because Ward teams depend on volunteers it is more challenging to hold teams to
any kind of performance measures. We also looked at the individual level design components: tasks
identity, significance, autonomy, variety, and feedback. Here, too, it is difficult to hold members to
performance standards. Although we concluded that the group level performance gap was largely a
result of inadequate communication, individual outputs were also not as desired. Volunteers varied
in performance; however, you couldn t fire them. There were no repercussions for absenteeism.
They lacked KSA s and often motivation to do a good job. Showing up was the highest expectation.
Understanding all of the organizational, group and individual inputs, design components and
outputs is critical to determine effectiveness. In most companies with HR, the OD professional
would likely need to work with HR to gain this knowledge. HR is a source of data and has
experience working with line managers and staff, or at least offers a different perspective. Here is

Bacterial vaginosis has a lactobacilli dominant environment that is located in the vagina. The
microbes that are associated with bacterial vaginosis are anaerobes. Anaerobes is an organism that
live without oxygen and can still grow. The anaerobes in bacterial vaginosis are Prevotella,
Peptostreptococcus, Eubacterium, Mobiluncus, Mycoplasma, Staphylococcus epidermidis,
Streptococcus, and Gardnerella (Livoti,Topp). The anaerobe that is most responsible for BV is
Gardnerella. Gardnerella is the bacteria that dominates the vagina and it has gram negative rods.
The bacterium alerts the PH, odor, and secrets thick discharge from the vagina. The symptoms are
itching, burning during urination, inflammation. The bacteria can cause complications and it can
increase risk of other diseases (Sefcik). BV can be associated with pelvic inflammatory disease
and it can allow organisms that cause sexually transmitted diseases take over the reproductive

Chaco Canyon Essay
Chaco Canyon hi my name is Andres answer my quest New Mexico I went to Chaco Canyon
Chaco Canyon is a historical site that is often forgotten but is still an amazing place to know about.
What was the history, the culture and why did the Chacoans build such immense structures that
were not occupied year round.
The Chacoans were a civilization that lasted from the 800s to the 1100s and were living across
New Mexico. They were an agricultural society that their main food source were the three sisters,
corn, beans, and squash. They also supplemented their diet with any animals they could catch.
In the late 800s Pueblo Bonito, Una Vida, and PeГ±asco Blanco were constructed, followed by

Other archaeologists think that the great houses were a center for trade due to the fact that they

shell.
The puzzling thing is that there is not a lot of organic waste in the refuse piles which means that
the Native Americans that we were living there we re not there all the time.
we still do not know why the ancestral puebloans left Chaco Canyon and we probably never know

Checks and Balances
Checks and Balances. Checks and balances is a system that is a part of out U.S. Constitution.
This system was put in to place so that no part of government would have too much power. The
three branches: judicial, legislative and executive are constantly granting and checking the other
branches actions, this is to make sure no one person can gain an excessive amount of control in
government. For example according to , the legislative branch is in charge of making laws. The
executive branch can veto the law, thus making it harder for the legislative branch to pass the law.
The judicial branch may also say that the law is unconstitutional and thus make sure it is not a
law.The legislative branch can also remove a president or judge that is not doing his/her job
properly. The executive branch appoints judges and the legislative branch approves the choice of
the executive branch. Again, the branches check and balance each other so that no one branch has
too much power . Senate rejected a president s nominee to the Supreme Court. The senate has
rejected a total of 12 nominees out of 159 nomination for Supreme Court Justice that presidents
have submitted for confirmation. In 1795 George Washington was the first president to have his
nomination for Chief Justice rejected. Robert Bork for Associate Justice nomination by Ronald
Reagan was the last to be rejected in 1987 by the senate. The Senate sometimes take their time
confirming nominees, which includes 24 they ve postponed.

Data And Three Types Of Data Centers
Migration of data, applications from traditional data centers to the cloud has been calling the
attention to many corporations and analysts.
However, as the immense cloud relocation changes the data center industry, a smaller, under rated
change has been occurring around the non cloud applications that have been abandoned. These
edge applications have remained on premise and, because of the nature of the cloud, the criticality
of these applications has expanded altogether.
Some of the current limitations for applications shifting to the cloud are identified as
Latency
Limitation of bandwidth
Security
These apply to applications that require high availability, low latency and connectivity such as
Uber, smart traffic lights, financial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Localized or Micro Data Center. A localized data center that is co located with the users of the data
center.
Characteristics:
Lack of security Unorganized racks
No redundancy
. No dedicated cooling
No DCIM monitoring.
The local equipment is critical to connectivity to everyday business applications. With more and
more living in the cloud, when that access point is down, employees cannot be productive.
This suggests that a change in how we design these small on premise data centers is needed. We
can no longer focus only on central and regional data centers, and arguably, more focus should be
on the localized sites because they are currently the weakest links.
The issue is that many downsized on premise data centers are not properly designed to assume
their new role as critical data outposts. Most are organized as one or two servers housed within a
wiring closet
Later in this paper, we describe best practices that should be deployed at these sites to ensure a
highly connected and productive business
Steps that enhance edge resiliency
In order to enhance critical edge application availability, several best practices are recommended:
Enhanced security When you enter some of these server rooms and closets, you typically see
unsecured entry doors and open racks (no doors). To enhance security, equipment should be moved
to a locked room or placed within a locked enclosure. Biometric access

Linux And Microsoft Operating Systems Essay
Abstract
Linux and Microsoft operating systems have been developed and marketed in two very different
ways. Microsoft has become synonymous with monopoly and substandard software, while Linux is
based on free, open source and the concept of open standards, full disclosure and sharing. Microsoft
attempts to discourage consumers from using the Linux solution by suggesting that the operating
system is less than perfect, yet it remains blind to its own operating system s problems existent
within Windows 95/98 and Windows NT.
It s a well known fact that Microsoft dominate the software market despite these facts. Are they
operating within legal and ethical boundaries? And is it possible that they could fall from grace
because of this?

Proprietary systems, such as DOS, Macintosh, VMS and MVS, traditionally have had nothing in
common, and vendors and systems integrators have had extreme difficulty porting applications
among them.
UNIX is an open system, and has recently seen quite well established market gains, and there are
several reasons for this. Above all, it is solid, dependable, standard and scalable. Workstations are
becoming popular and competitive with the ascendance of NT. Popularity is also due to the fact
that it s open source В– В‘Companies in the US that are already using open source operating
systems plan to use it on almost 23% of their desktop machines by January 2002. Open source
software will run more than 34% of their company s servers by 2002. (USA Today 06/01/00)
While companies like IBM, Oracle, and Netscape have begun to integrate their business model with
open source, many traditional software companies continue to focus on purely proprietary
solutions. In the web server space, Microsoft s complete denial of the open source phenomenon is
almost amusing. The Apache web server has more than 50% of the web serving market according
the Netcraft survey (http://www.netcraft.com/survey,07/01/02).
When you look at advertisements for Microsoft s Internet Information Server (IIS) you see that
they own over half the market in web serving В– over half the commercial server market. When

The Reasons For Malaysian Citizens Do Not Like Gst Essay
Discussion : Many of the consumers think GST may have many of negative effect to them
because their must to pay more than the original cost before the government introduces GST in
Malaysia. This is some causes that may the consumer and supplier do not like GST much in
Malaysia. First, I think the reasons why many of Malaysia citizen do not like GST is because
general products prices may go up, so this will increase their daily expenditure budget. Second it
will increase the load of the low income working group in Malaysia as we know the basis salary
in Malaysia is RM800. In the amount of RM 800, they have pay many of the other cost such as
utility expenses, houses or room rate, vehicle fuel and other thing. So that it make they feel that
this burden GST is distress them. In the same time they was worried if the government increase the
GST rate from 6% to 10% to increase revenue because it is possible for the government increases
GST rate to get more revenue to develop countries or to support the government burden. Next in the
beginning of introducing of GST that has many problems in implementation due to the lack of real
understanding of the concept among GST on the supplier and consumer and to ensure that the
supplier does not take any advantage of the consumer in increase the price of their product. In
addition, rumors from outside also make the Malaysia citizen feel bad to the concept of this GST

Many Japanese viewers went and watched the movie, leaving the theatre in tears due to the
scenes relating so vividly to the events that occurred. One such occurrence included the lucky

site, resulting in radiation poisoning to the crew members. Along with this imagery, a still
illustration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in ashes after being hit by Godzilla symbolizes the attack
of atomic bombs by the Americans. This visual resembles how both cities looked after they had
been attacked by the atomic bombs. After the successful release of the film, Japanese critics
accused the directors of cashing in on national hysteria, and thus were not pleased. To support
Ryfle s argument, Susan Napier partially agrees with what Ryfle has to say in her article, Panic

Why I Was A Psychiatry Inpatient Service At The Boston...

Fast forward two years: Bader 5 is a psychiatry inpatient service at the Boston Children s Hospital

struggling with mentally, I was taken to the emergency room for suicide watch. I sat in the
emergency room for over two hours with Marcos, a tall man who spoke broken English, whose
only job was to make sure I would not strangle myself with the bed sheets. My mother was
signing paper work, getting food and calling my father for a majority of those two hours. By the
time she came back, it looked like she had aged ten years.
Another hour passed, my dad arrived. We all sat in the emergency room together, and Marcos
took post in the hallway. Eventually, a doctor showed up, along with a police officer, and my
family and I were led up to Bader 5. We met with Steve, the man who ran Bader 5 and he had
eyes so blue they looked white. My parents were given more paper work, stating that they signed

conciliatory to the rebel group and concerned about the threat that civil war in Mexico was

of rebel force, led by Felix Diaz (the former dictator s nephew), clashed with federal troops in
Mexico City under the command of Victoriano Huerta. On February 18th, 1913, after the ninth

Conflict is normal...Resolution is not suppression or elimination, it is a process that can channel
energy constructively, may define the future, can be negotiated jointly, build better relations
/strengthen teams, expand opportunities where there is benefit to all involved.
CONFLICT SETTLEMENT is the solution or compromise imposed by mediation or arbitration.
The job of the president or team leader is to manage, resolve and settle conflicts so that they don t
interfere with the work of the board and undermine the ability of the organization to fulfill its
mission and strategic goals.
Who can tell us what kinds of things produce friction, conflicts or controversy in a volunteer
organization?
Conflict/controversy occurs when...
Unhelpful behavior in terms of interpersonal communication eg that is the way we ve always done
things , eg biased, unclear or limited communication;
Lack of information or transparency, rumor vs facts;
Different views of what information is important;
Varying interpretations of available information;
Different needs or interests and the perception that all the choices facing the organization are in
competition with one another;
Struggle over power or authority;
Differences in values eg different ways of understanding the world or different ideals in the
broadest sense (this is one of the most difficult types of conflict to resolve);

Arguments Against Dna Testing
Discussion #3
DNA testing has been around for many years. DNA testing was first used to determine paternity
(Schwartz 2016). Today, DNA is not only used in paternity cases, but it is also used in criminal
justice. DNA in the criminal justice was first used in 1986 in the United Kingdom. Dr. Alec J.
Jeffreys was accused for two rape murders and later proven innocent by DNA testing (The
Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2003). Even if this method is reliable most of the time,
there are times where the DNA expert might make a mistake, might be rigged or there might be an
unknown bias. Unfortunately, because of this innocent individual are wrongfully accused of a crime
they did not commit. Dr. Itel Dror wanted to test this theory. In a... Show more content on

Dror believes that fingerprints are a reliable forensic evidence in today s trials. He also believes
that fingerprints are more reliable than eyewitness testimonies. However, since fingerprints are
identified by very highly skilled professional, they are still humans and mistakes can in fact
happen either honestly or intentionally. He also stated that in most cases, fingerprint evidence
has been more reliable and can be important in order to prove someone s innocence or find a
criminal. I personally, agree with Dr. Dror s opinion on fingerprint evidence being more reliable
than eyewitness testimony. Like he stated on the video, the mind is not like a camera. It does
not take a video which we can later see and quickly catch the person responsible for a crime.
Another reason of why I agree with Dr.Dror s, is because the mind is very easy to trick.
Memories can be altered just by discussing the subject with someone else, either someone involved
in the crime or by being asked leading questions by authorities. Statistics show that 70% of
wrongful convictions caused by eyewitness testimony are overturned by DNA testing. (Innocence
project, nd). As Dr. Dror said, the DNA expert might make some mistakes, DNA testing is still
better and more reliable than eyewitness

Chloroplast Research Paper
INTRODUCTION
Eukaryotic organelles are very crucial to the function of living organism. Organelles such as the
nucleus, mitochondria and chloroplast are named to the most important and valuable. The cell
nucleus is a double membrane‐bound organelle that contains the hereditary data of the cell
bundled as chromatin. The nucleus is a trademark highlight of most eukaryotic cells. (Wiley,2017)
Eukaryotic cells are unique and important as it consists of a variety of different organelles. These
organelles are: mitochondria, chloroplasts, the endoplasmic reticulum, the Golgi apparatus, and
lysosomes. The specific organelles that have been mentioned are significant as they have their own
job to function a cell. (Eukaryotic Cells | Learn Science at Scitable, 2017)

(Chloroplast: Definition, Structure, Function Examples Video Lesson Transcript | Study.com,
2017) Chloroplasts are commonly known for their job of being the food producers of the cell.
(Studios, 2017) They are only found in plant cells and some eukaryotic organism.
Function: The chloroplast turn the sugars that are used by the cells from the light energy of the
sun. This procedure is known commonly as photosynthesis; this is important as it relies on the
chlorophyll molecules in each chloroplast. (Studios, 2017)
Importance: Chloroplasts are the majority of the world s nourishment and fuel and oxygen supply,
and all things considered life on Earth relies on upon them. They are an important part of every
single photosynthetic cell in plants and algae. Chloroplasts are important because they are the site
of photosynthesis, from the absorption of light by chlorophyll through to the production of the
primary basic sugars. (K. Tobin, 2017)

Manchester United s Economic Impact
By Dalton Truax

Sports Marketing Management
28 February 2013
Introduction
Manchester United is the most valuable sports club to exist so surely the club must make the city
a lot of money every year, right? Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and the most
popular soccer club in the world is Manchester United. There is no denial that Manchester United
has had a huge cultural impact as well as made many social contributions to its locale, but what
about the team s economic impact? Manchester United has influenced the local and regional
economy in many ways, with most of them being exclusively positive. Some of the ways the club ...

Marketing of the city is a very important tool when it comes to this. The question is which role
sports, and more specifically soccer clubs like Manchester United, can play here. Entertainment is
playing a bigger and bigger role in society as the years go by. So, how does the government view
Manchester United in this matter? The government acknowledges the important role Manchester
United plays as a catalyst for marketing of the city. They regard Manchester United mainly as a
publicity channel for the region to attempt to attract tourists, as well as companies to the region.
Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council also uses the presence of Manchester United to further
develop the area around the club. They have a long term vision for the development of Old Trafford,
the team s historic stadium. The role of Manchester United in attracting businesses is very
significant. The club can attract businesses itself but can only do this for businesses that benefit
from the actual matches taking place, such as pubs and hotels. On the other hand, the club
functions as a publicity channel for the region. It draws attention, and is always a good way to start
a conversation. In this way, the club has indirectly made a large contribution to bring businesses
and investments to the region. The brand name is known all over the world and puts

Why People Commit The Crimes
Introduction There are many different theories out there of why people commit the crimes they
do. In fact there are several theories that are apart of the different aspects of those theories. For
hundreds of years people have been trying to figure out what causes people to engage in deviant
behavior. It has been a field that has changed the way it has looked at why criminals commit the
crimes that they do. The theory that I am going to be covering in this paper is that of the Strain
Theory made famous by Robert Merton. This theory explains that people will do whatever
means are necessary to pursue the American Dream, and to move up in this society. There are
several of these Strain theories so I will be going in depth particularly about the Classic/Anomie
Strain Theory. The Strain Theory was developed by Robert Merton a Sociologist in 1938
(Richard Featherstone, 2003). It was first called the theory of anomie and deviance, then it was
changed in recent years to what we know as strain theory (Richard Rosenfeld, 1989). He believed
that the Theory of Anomie was that we put an emphasis on cultural goals and the means to
achieve them, and that the strain of this theory is that the deviance we see in society is caused by
the social norms within a society (Daniel S. Murphy and Mathew B. Robinson, 2008). This was
that the ideas of our society to obtain wealth, may actually cause this deviant behavior in
individuals. As an individual we will obtain the means to

often women and children had to seek employment because most families needed more income

Essay on Hydrogen Car Power of the Future
Hydrogen: Car Power of the Future Abstract Recent years have shown an increasingly large need
for a practical renewable energy source for such reasons as diminishing fossil fuels and increases
in greenhouse gasses. Hydrogen appears to be a way out of this gasoline dug hole, or at least, a
way out in the future. Hydrogen fuel cell cars are being engineered as we speak as the
technologies to refuel them cleanly are being proposed. Unfortunately, most of the technologies
associated with hydrogen are still in the prototype/pre production stages and require better
enhancements before becoming mainstream. This paper assesses the practicality of hydrogen
power in cars both now and in the future while explicating the actual process of how a... Show more

Hydrogen is comprised of a Hydrogen: Car Power 3 small, positively charged proton with a
negatively charged electron orbiting very fast, a model analogous to the earth orbiting the sun,
or the moon orbiting the earth. Fuel cells take advantage of this structure. Using a membrane
and a catalyst, hydrogen is broken up into a proton and an electron. While there are many
different membrane models for fuel cells, the most appropriate one for car travel is the Polymer
Electrolyte Membrane (PEM, also called the Proton Exchange Membrane). It is called this
because protons are able to easily pass through the membrane. However, because the membrane
does not allow electrons to pass through it, the electrons take a detour through an electrical
circuit to the other side of the cell. If hydrogen is supplied into the cell at a steady rate, the
stream of electrons in the electrical circuit creates electric power. However, like all batteries, you
need a positive end (cathode) and a negative end (anode); in other words, the hydrogen atoms
must have a reason to make this electrical circuit. And what is this reason? Oxygen. With oxygen
at the other end, hydrogen is more than willing to create this current so that it can bind and form
H2O, or water on the other end. Unfortunately, one fuel cell alone produces less than 1.16 volts,
which can t really do much on its own. However, when dozens or even hundreds of fuel cells are
lined up together

The Joy Luck Club Narrative Style
In The Joy Luck Club, Tan has purposely externalized the eight characters mental world by allowing
each of them to tell her own story in a deceptively simple manner, thus allowing the reader to plunge
into the mind of the characters. The motives, desires, pains, pleasures, and concerns of the
characters are thereby effectively dramatized. This particular writing strategy allows Tan to
transcend the conventional novelistic dichotomy of preferred showing and undesirable telling. The
stories thus tell us a great deal about individual characters, their reaction to each other, and their
activities together. The Joy Luck Club is a bridge uniting both space and time. It connects the
sixteen intricately interlocking stories and helps to reveal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Unlike Tan s other novels, which are based on oral narratives of mothers, this story develops by
the act of documenting past. Ruth who is the ghost writer, major character, starts to amend her life
by initiating a unique creative writing, with all immaculate insight that she has attained about
herself. In other words, by looking back and by the power of recalling past memories, Ruth has
obtained a new vision of future; as she writes the story of her mother and her grandmother, she
reveals her vision, in the closing words of the novel, They write about what happened, why it
happened, how they can make other things happen. They write stories of things that are but should
not have been. They write about what could have been, what still might be. They write of a past
that can be changed. Ruth discovers the answer to her philosophical questions about life.
Interestingly, this insight belongs to a feminine sphere and its instructors are all women who share
their memories with their daughters, to protect them from hazards of life. Therefore, this story
develops by the act of documenting past. However, the written word serves to perform as the
savior of ancestral memories and preserves the history of a family and in larger scale, a

Training Our Children for a Bright Future
Train up a child in the way that he should go and when

earth is heading up to. Reading II Timothy 3:1 10 and Matthew 24 makes us aware that this
world, apart from God, is heading towards turmoil! How then can we give hope and assure
ourselves that our children will have a brighter future? My purpose in bringing this message is to

How should we train our children?
I. THE SYSTEM THAT WE SHOULD EMPLOY IN TRAINING OUR CHILDREN. There must
be a dedication. The word chanak translated train occurs 5 times in the Old Testament. It is found
twice in Deut. 20:5; I Kings 8:63 where Solomon dedicated, chanak the temple. In II Chronicles 7:5
Solomon dedicated the temple and here in Proverbs 22:6. It is similar to our ground breaking
ceremony. There must be excitement and enthusiasm in doing the training of our children.
Application:
There must be discernment of the child s habits, interests, moods, inclinations and attitudes. We
must consider the child s individuality and inclinations when we give our instructions to
inexperienced children. These directives should be in keeping with the degree of our child s
moods. It is necessary to know and understand our child s moods. There must be discipline,
personal touch and connection. Don t depend upon your yayas, parents. Brothers and even public
and private teachers to train your children. Don t delegate your duty to other people the privilege of
training your children
Personal Story:
Application: have a firm exhortation, faithful example and consistent emphasis in your life. II.
THE SUBJECTS THAT WE SHOULD EMPHASIZE IN THE TRAINING OF OUR CHILDREN
The first thing to train our children is the subject of Reverence to God. Proverbs 1:7 says, The fear

extremely budget friendly. Another inexpensive attraction in downtown Chicago is their iconic
Navy Pier. Navy Pier is known as a tourist hotspot. It includes multiple retail shops, a ferris
wheel, an IMAX movie theatre, a crystal garden, a mirror maze, the children s museum, a
number of restaurants, and is the loading dock to luxurious cruise lines. Split the cab fare with
friends to reach the pier and spend the afternoon sightseeing. There are no fees to enter the pier
or crystal garden but there are admission fees for extra amusements for a reasonable price. After
one the evening sightseeing they can either hop on a dinner cruise or dine at one of the
restaurants. After dinner on specific days one can enjoy Navy Pier s firework show. On
Wednesday and Saturday nights during the summer, Navy Pier hosts its very own firework show
free to the public. One can essentially spend the entire day enjoying all what Navy Pier offers.
Other inexpensive attractions in Chicago are the different museums and exhibits scattered around
the downtown area. On certain days throughout the year Chicago hosts free or discounted days for
students, military personnel and their families, as well as Illinois residents. These free and

How Does Shakespeare Use Humor In Romeo And Juliet
Meagan Healey Heather Norwood ENG2D1 04 1 June 2016 Life Needs Laughter Romeo and
Juliet is one of the most famous plays written by William Shakespeare. Although the story of
Romeo and Juliet is one that is very tragic, it has some very humorous aspects that are essential to
the development of the plot and of the characters. The humorous characters, the intrigue of the the
jokes and puns and the comic relief after a tragic scene, all play a very significant role. These
elements are the reason that the play, Romeo and Juliet is continued to be read and analyzed today.
Certain characters are seen as insignificant or irrelevant in this tragic play. However, with further
analysis, it is evident that minor characters use humour to develop the plot and the main characters.
Firstly, the Nurse... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Juliet is very anxious about what Romeo said to the Nurse. The Nurse teases her and sais Where
is your mother right before she reveals what Romeo said to her. This releases the tension of the
readers and builds curiosity to intrigue. The comic relief in Romeo and Juliet also drives the plot
of the play. The scenes in this tragedy alternate between serious and humorous modes. This
allows the characters to develop their emotions and to react based on the jokes and puns often
told by the minor characters. Here s such a coil! come, what says Romeo? (2.5.28). Juliet
becomes very frustrated when the Nurse uses comic relief to avoid telling her what Romeo said.
This is often the outcome of comic relief in this play. The frustration of Juliet is very amusing to
the readers and the Nurse s comic relief provides more excitement for Juliet after anticipating the
answer for awhile. The Nurse in Romeo and Juliet creates a very provoking comedy that navigates
the plot. The comic relief in this play is compelling to the readers and adds liveliness to the tragedy

A Brief Look at Operational Amplifiers
Operational amplifiers (Op Amp) have been in use for quite a long a long time now in the field
of electronics and electrical engineering. A basic Op Amp has got three connections consisting
of 1 output and 2 inputs. For definition purposes the two input terminals are called inverting and
non inverting inputs (Huijsing, 2011). Huijsing (2011) adds that it has been found and proven
that when the voltage at both points of the inputs is the same, there will be no output on the
other side. The image below shows an ideal Op Amp with the terminals shown. FIGURE 1 For
an ideal Op Amp the input impedance is infinite for the load and 0 for the source output so this
means it can be used as a buffer and an ideal source of voltage and current (Storr, 2014).Carter
and Mancini (2009) noted in their book that feedback is always necessary in this amplifier so as
to reduce the gain because they have an infinite gain (around a million) when the loop is open but
this gain is dependent on the amount of input voltage, so if we apply 0.000001V input the output
will be 1V. Application of the Op Amp in circuits is diverse but in this report two circuits will be
covered namely the integrator and differential circuit. INTEGRATOR CIRCUITS FROM OP AMP
A basic mathematical definition of integration is the main tool used to define this type of amp
circuit. In other terms the input signal is integrated so that the outcome is the output signal. This
circuit is

Black Friday Ethical Issues
Thanksgiving is celebrated the third Thursday in the month of November. The following day is
called Black Friday, during this event stores and companies dramatically reduce the price of their
items. The consumer that is brave enough to face crowds and long lines might save enough money
on purchases to make getting up early worth it. The gun industry and accessories broke record
sales during this last Black Fridayevent (Smith, 2017). Alien Gear is one of the newest companies
to emerge in the conceal carry holster industry. In following pages the Alien Gear background will
be discussed, explore the market strategy, examine social and ethical issues, and describe the
strategy addressing these concerns.
Background
When it comes to concealed carry holster options in the past there were only a few companies out
there. In 2013, Thomas Tedder entered the conceal holster industry with his company Alien Gear (

Equally important, they can require the customer to input their conceal carry permit number into
their check out procedures. This step would require the company to check with the customer s
state before mailing out the holster. State officials with stricter conceal carry policies would
encourage this partnership because it could reduce the number of people illegally carrying a
firearm. To increase the chance of internationally sales Alien Gear can look at doing a direct
investment in that host country. The direct investment would have Alien Gear investing or owning
in a foreign subsidiary (Kerin et al., 2016). Alien Gear could also go the route of licensing by
allowing a host country to use their patient and make their product in that country. They would
receive a portion of the sales and it would save them on production and transportation

  • 2. Rebecca By Daphne Du Maurier Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is a masterful mystery romance novel originally published in 1938. The story centers around the marriage of a young woman to Maxim de Winter, a brooding widower caught in the shadow of his deceased wife, Rebecca. Throughout the novel, we embark on a journey of self discovery from the vantage point of the new Mrs. de Winter. Upon arrival at the expansive estate of her new husband, Manderley, Mrs. de Winter finds the idealistic life she d hoped to live far from the stark reality of her new world. Through rising tensions, internal conflicts, and the self imposed psychological stress, we watch as Mrs. de Winter transforms from an insecure young girl into a woman with a quiet, steadying strength. The start of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Maxim s growing distance reinforces her belief; he regrets marrying her and is still in love with Rebecca. Mrs. Danvers, in addition, consistently reminds Mrs. de Winter of Rebecca s preferences adding to a growing sense of inferiority. Insecurities and self doubt already present in the new Mrs. de Winter were an underlying part of her personality. Mrs. Van Hopper, her previous employer, would employ me as bait to draw her prey (du Maurier. 12). Mrs. Van Hopper s treatment of her lead to an undiagnosed case of high anxiety; the constant and unsubstantiated worry that causes significant distress and interferes with daily life, within the young Mrs. de Winter exasperating the intensity of Manderley (adaa.org). Readers are able to see in intense detail the mental distress of the main character because of the author s use of homodiegetic narration; where the narrator is talking to the readers or narrates from within the story world (Scott 78). The story is both from the vantage point of Mrs. de Winter as well as told by her. The fixed focalisation forces the reader to feel on her side in the events of the story. The impressions of the readers are a reflection of how the main character views her person. Daphne du Maurier uses a brilliantly insidious device to accomplish this; she never gives the main character a name. Not once in the entirety of the prose is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Descriptive Essay On The God Of A Fish I glance over the cliff observing the quaint town below a smile making it way on my face; I sit down on the grass covered ground placing my legs over the edge and swigging them slowly.i watch as the town prepared in celebration of the god of their town; they prepared fireworks on the outskirts of the town that would give me perfect view of them going off tonight. I felt a form sit on my shoulder; I turn my head seeing Gabriel sitting there a fish hanging out of his mouth as he beamed with content. finally caught a fish I say laughing at the end; I laugh even harder when I see Gabriel pouting. His black and white ears folded down as he wrapped his white fur cover arms around his chest. he turned his head away with the fish still in his mouth. oh i m sworry i say using doggy eyes, he looks over for a moment than looked away. i ll get you more fish later I bargained at this his ears perked up and he turned back to me and unfolded his arms before dropping the fish he caught in his paws. deal! he says smiling happily. of course that what makes you forgive me i say rolling my eyes but couldn t stop the smile that appeared on my face. yup! he says, I shake my head looking back down at the town and watch the bustling people all holding smiles as they got ready. how you like to go down there and join the festivities? i asked getting up and dusting the dirt and grass that managed to cling to the cloak that covers my body. oh bhat me mun(oh that be fun) Gabriel says ... It must include everything that can help to produce a positive research, elements of inquiry, research approaches, and overall design of the research being conducted. We have to determine all the different types of research methodologies that are used in doing research. Even before taking this program, I know I would have a bright future in my career because it can open up so many doors. • 6. Analysis Of A Sound Of Thunder Aidan Dolinar Mrs. Kelley Weakely Honors English Period 5 9/30/15 The Coward s way A Sound of Thunder (Ray Bradbury) and The Lottery (Shirley Jackson) are both connected through a specific quality that characters in both stories contain. That quality is the inability to make good decisions. When faced with alarming or stressful situations, Eckels, Travis, and the townsfolk in the lottery, make bad decisions. The townsfolk blunder through their life, blindly following the unjust tradition to stone someone to death each year. Eckels and Travis are both cowards, and cowards tend to make bad decisions because they are selfish. Both stories are connected by these cowardly people that make bad decisions. The lottery townsfolk are put under pressure by not a person, but by tradition. Tradition makes them scared, and fear blinds people. Traditions can have many beginnings, but ones such as this, with no positive result, are simply a terrible decision. However, the townsfolk believe in tradition, and this pressures them into going along with this horrible idea. When Mrs. Hutchinson is chosen, she also makes a bad decision. Fear can cause denial, which, in Mrs. Hutchinson s case, can lead to your death. Instead of turning tail and running from her fate, she stands and lets the other townsfolk surround her, simply saying, It isn t fair, it isn t right, (The Lottery). Then simply letting the other townsfolk kill her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Terry Gilliam s Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas For my micro analysis I have chosen Terry Gilliam s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (US, 1998). It is a niche film, and while initially a commercial failure, quickly developed cult status. It is a black comedy set in the 1960s, and revolves around the protagonist Raoul Duke and his helper Dr. Gonzo s adventures in Las Vegas, as they traverse the city in a drug induced haze. The sequence I will be looking at in this essay is the carnival scene [31:30 38:03], which takes place in the second act of the film. It is difficult to say this with total certainty however, as Fear and Loathing doesn t clearly follow Field s Three Act Structure there is no obvious complication /confrontation, but rather several loosely related situations. In this part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This creates a slapstick comedy moment with Gonzo falling about while Duke attempts to help him. The long shot dominates this moment effectively due to how much of the environment is shown the carousel, the casino, and other potential obstacles are visible in the background, combining to create several planes of depth and movement, producing a parallax effect and disorientating the viewer. This shot type positions the audience to sympathise with Gonzo s comedic struggle through the movement of the camera, spinning of the carousel and the diegetic, fast paced carnival music it induces a dizzying sensation, allowing the viewer to understand how the characters are feeling. After the two manage to remove themselves from the carousel, they land in front of a group of tourists, who recoil in horror or simply stare. This reminds the audience who may have become adjusted to the pair s eccentric behaviour that they are still considered abnormal, even in the carnival. The tourists could also be representative of the audience, in the sense that they can do nothing but watch the characters in shock, unable to intervene. The medium shot used enforces that idea, as it shows the scene from the POV eyeline of a confused ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many reasons that might cause this inefficiency coming from the production manager or the purchase manager, such as bad quality of the raw materials bought (which were cheaper after all), or waste of these during the production process. * Direct Labour variance: Unfavourable by $22.000. Again, we need to find out whether this is Price and/or efficiency driven. We know that according to the accountant information, the actual price is $16,4/unit while the Standard price is $16/unit. On the other hand, the Standard Quantity is 14.000 units while the actual Quantity is 246.000/16,4=15.000 units. Therefore: * Price Variance = 240.000 246.000 = $6000 Unfavourable. This reflects the increase in medical benefits noted by the accountant. * Efficiency Variance = 224.000 240.000 = $16.000 Unfavourable. The accountant does not mention anything that can tell for sure the reasons for this lack of efficiency, so we can only guess some reasons such as a change in the labour force to an unskilled one. * Idle Time and Cleanup Time: Unfavourable by $3.000 + $1.600 respectively, might be due to different reasons such as low efficiency in the cleanup process, or bad shape of the machines used to manufacture the motors that turned into a lot of idle time compared to the one budgeted. The idle time must be monitored since it can lead to further decrease of Labour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat Essay example Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat For my book report, I have chosen the novel Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat. In this report I will give a brief summary of the novel as well as why I have chosen it for my report. Finally, I will give my reactions to the novel with regards to its analysis of the place of human beings in nature, whether the destiny of humans and nature is intertwined, and how nature is regarded by the different religious and political philosophies demonstrated in the novel. Never Cry Wolf is based upon the true story of the author s experiences during two years spent as a biologist studying a family of wolves in northern Canada during the mid nineteen fifties. When Mowat is sent on his expedition his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This meant that I could more easily identify the setting and thus relate better to the author s feelings and perceptions. Meanwhile, Siddhartha was set in India and in my mind was dated and unreal humankind (society) seems today to have more of a desire and a need to get back to nature and the simple life. The spirit of peace that emanates from Mowat s book allows one to focus on what is possible when one has time to reflect In this I mean that Never Cry Wolf seemed to hold a more meaningful message for modern times. As well I found the style of writing in the Mowat novel to be clearer then in Siddhartha. These were some of the factors that combined to produce a situation where Never Cry Wolf captured my attention more than Siddhartha. It was for these reasons that I chose the novel by Farley Mowat. In my opinion, Never Cry Wolf placed humans in the role of intruders as far as nature is concerned. Mowat cites several instances where humans violate nature and represent a threat to its sanctity. Even though this threat is not reciprocated by nature, humans continue to infringe upon nature and then deny the consequences of their actions. Two prevalent examples of this occur: when Mowat accidentally wanders into the wolves den when the wolves are there, and again when he discovers a herd of deer that have been slaughtered by hunters. Both examples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Peter Singer is an Australian utilitarian philosopher, and in Famine, Affluence, and Morality he argues that more fortunate people should be required to help those in need or at least give significantly more than what is currently being given. The essay focuses on the Great Bengal Faminethat occurred in 1971, Singer mentions how reluctant the western world was to aid those in need and he blames it on the fact that it was a crisis that was happening far away from the western world. • 12. The Conformity Of The Ego In Shakespeare s Macbeth According to Sigmund Freud, there are three parts of the human psyche the id, the ego and the superego. The id is the part of the mind that everyone is born with and works behind the scenes to direct our instincts. The ego is the part of the mind that encounters our day to day lives; the ego is responsible for quantifying the impulses of the id. The superego is the last part of the mindthat produces one s conscience and guilt (Freud). All three of these traits of the mind are present in the tale of Macbeth. • 15. The Brown V. Board Of Education Essay The Brown v. Board of Education was a case that was initiated by members of the local NAACP (National association Advancement of Colored People) organization in Topeka, Kansas where thirteen parents volunteered to participate of the segregation during school. Parents took their children to schools in their neighborhoods in the summer of 1950 and attempted to enroll them for the upcoming school year. All students were refused admission and were forced to attend one of the four schools in the city for African Americans. For most parents and students, this involved traveling some distance from their homes. These parents filed suit against the Topeka Board of Education on behalf of their twenty children. Oliver Brown who was a minister, was the first parent to suit against the problem, so the case came to be named after his last name. Three local lawyers, Charles Bledsoe, Charles Scott and John Scott, were assisted by Robert Carter and Jack Greenberg from the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Oliver Brown had declared that Topeka s racial segregation violated the Constitution s Equal Protection Clause because the city s black and white schools were not equal to each other and never could be due to the way things were. The federal district court dismissed his claim, ruling that the segregated public schools were substantially equal enough to be constitutional under the Plessy case doctrine. Brown appealed to the Supreme Court, which made it more effective and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Neither one of Picasso s most famous, nor best paintings, Bust of a Woman still tells a story of the time and place of a tumultuous artist muse relationship encapsulated by Picasso s surrealist expression in Nazi occupied France during World War II. On its face, Bust of a Woman appears secular Dora Maar is not obviously representative of any sort of entity. An organization consists of individuals with different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences all working towards a common goal. Just like how every employee have different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences, the employees also differ in generations called Gen X(people born in 1965 1981), Gen Y (people born in 1982 2000) and Baby boomers(people born in 1946 1964). Organizational changes happen due to leadership, technical changes and also due to multiple generations working under a single roof. By these generations working under a single roof there are many contradictions and differences right from the value systems to how each generations see the work. Effectiveness Of A Volunteer Team Group Structure Our intervention occurred at the group level, where we also needed to consider the inputs, design components and outputs in order to do group level diagnosis. Here we looked at goal clarity, task structure, functioning of the group, composition, and performance norms. Ward s volunteer team group structure deviated widely from most for profit companies: the design components are all loosely defined. Because Ward teams depend on volunteers it is more challenging to hold teams to any kind of performance measures. We also looked at the individual level design components: tasks identity, significance, autonomy, variety, and feedback. Here, too, it is difficult to hold members to performance standards. Although we concluded that the group level performance gap was largely a result of inadequate communication, individual outputs were also not as desired. Volunteers varied in performance; however, you couldn t fire them. There were no repercussions for absenteeism. They lacked KSA s and often motivation to do a good job. Her mind was already decided to dislike him, but now there was evidence that she had greatly misjudged him and his character. Having a physical letter instead of a brisk conversation allows Elizabeth to think everything other, apply logic, and allow her to find the truth. Elizabeth eventually reaches the conclusion that her assumptions about Mr. Darcy were all wrong and cries How despicably have I acted...I, who have prided myself on my discernment...Had I been in love, I could not have been more wretchedly blind. There is nothing he would not do for her. (167). Mrs. Reynolds gives Elizabeth a different way of seeing Mr. Darcy; not as an egotistical man of wealth, but a responsible and caring gentleman. Also while at Pemberley , Darcy exemplifies other gentleman like qualities, such as being polite, attentive, and gracious, to a degree never before witnessed by Elizabeth. Elizabeth s aunt, Mrs. Gardiner, remarked [Mr. Darcy] has not an ill natured look. On the contrary, there is something pleasing about his mouth when he speaks. My mother was signing paper work, getting food and calling my father for a majority of those two hours. By the time she came back, it looked like she had aged ten years. Another hour passed, my dad arrived. We all sat in the emergency room together, and Marcos took post in the hallway. Eventually, a doctor showed up, along with a police officer, and my family and I were led up to Bader 5. We met with Steve, the man who ran Bader 5 and he had eyes so blue they looked white. Jeffreys was accused for two rape murders and later proven innocent by DNA testing (The Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2003). Even if this method is reliable most of the time, there are times where the DNA expert might make a mistake, might be rigged or there might be an unknown bias. I personally, agree with Dr. Dror s opinion on fingerprint evidence being more reliable than eyewitness testimony. Like he stated on the video, the mind is not like a camera. It does not take a video which we can later see and quickly catch the person responsible for a crime. Another reason of why I agree with Dr.Dror s, is because the mind is very easy to trick. Memories can be altered just by discussing the subject with someone else, either someone involved in the crime or by being asked leading questions by authorities. Statistics show that 70% of wrongful convictions caused by eyewitness testimony are overturned by DNA testing. (Innocence project, nd). In fact there are several theories that are apart of the different aspects of those theories. For hundreds of years people have been trying to figure out what causes people to engage in deviant behavior. It has been a field that has changed the way it has looked at why criminals commit the crimes that they do. The theory that I am going to be covering in this paper is that of the Strain Theory made famous by Robert Merton. This theory explains that people will do whatever means are necessary to pursue the American Dream, and to move up in this society. There are several of these Strain theories so I will be going in depth particularly about the Classic/Anomie Strain Theory. The Strain Theory was developed by Robert Merton a Sociologist in 1938 (Richard Featherstone, 2003). It was first called the theory of anomie and deviance, then it was changed in recent years to what we know as strain theory (Richard Rosenfeld, 1989). He believed that the Theory of Anomie was that we put an emphasis on cultural goals and the means to achieve them, and that the strain of this theory is that the deviance we see in society is caused by the social norms within a society (Daniel S. Murphy and Mathew B. Robinson, 2008). This was that the ideas of our society to obtain wealth, may actually cause this deviant behavior in individuals. As an individual we will obtain the means to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hydrogen fuel cell cars are being engineered as we speak as the technologies to refuel them cleanly are being proposed. Hydrogen is comprised of a Hydrogen: Car Power 3 small, positively charged proton with a negatively charged electron orbiting very fast, a model analogous to the earth orbiting the sun, or the moon orbiting the earth. Fuel cells take advantage of this structure. Using a membrane and a catalyst, hydrogen is broken up into a proton and an electron. While there are many different membrane models for fuel cells, the most appropriate one for car travel is the Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM, also called the Proton Exchange Membrane). It is called this because protons are able to easily pass through the membrane. However, because the membrane does not allow electrons to pass through it, the electrons take a detour through an electrical circuit to the other side of the cell. If hydrogen is supplied into the cell at a steady rate, the stream of electrons in the electrical circuit creates electric power. However, like all batteries, you need a positive end (cathode) and a negative end (anode); in other words, the hydrogen atoms must have a reason to make this electrical circuit. And what is this reason? Oxygen. With oxygen at the other end, hydrogen is more than willing to create this current so that it can bind and form H2O, or water on the other end. Unfortunately, one fuel cell alone produces less than 1.16 volts, which can t really do much on its own. However, when dozens or even hundreds of fuel cells are lined up together ... A basic Op Amp has got three connections consisting of 1 output and 2 inputs. For definition purposes the two input terminals are called inverting and non inverting inputs (Huijsing, 2011). Huijsing (2011) adds that it has been found and proven that when the voltage at both points of the inputs is the same, there will be no output on the other side. The image below shows an ideal Op Amp with the terminals shown. FIGURE 1 For an ideal Op Amp the input impedance is infinite for the load and 0 for the source output so this means it can be used as a buffer and an ideal source of voltage and current (Storr, 2014).Carter and Mancini (2009) noted in their book that feedback is always necessary in this amplifier so as to reduce the gain because they have an infinite gain (around a million) when the loop is open but this gain is dependent on the amount of input voltage, so if we apply 0.000001V input the output will be 1V. Application of the Op Amp in circuits is diverse but in this report two circuits will be covered namely the integrator and differential circuit.
