Cohesion In Discourse Essay
It s the investigation of the relationship between form and function in verbal communication
(Renkema, 2004, p.1). According to Longman Dictionary, Discourse is a general term for examples of
language use, i.e. language which has been used as the result of an act of communication. Discourse
refers to larger units of language such as paragraphs, conversation, interviews, sermons,
speeches....etc. Discourse can be written or spoken. The study of how sentences in written and spoken
language form larger units such as paragraphs is discourse analysis (Longman dictionary, p.147).
What makes a sequence of sentences a discourse is cohesion (Renkema, 2004, p.49). Cohesion in
discourse appears to involve the further grouping of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2 collocation
It s a part of lexical cohesion that is achieved through the association of lexical items that co occur
together. (Halliday and Hassan, 1976, p.285)
Examples: make mistake do homework. Grammatical cohesion
It focuses on how grammar works across sentences. It could be substitution, ellipsis, conjunction, and
reference.
2.1. Substitution
It s the replacement of one item with another one in the text. It could nominal (one/ ones), verbal (do),
and clausal (so/not).

Is it going to rain? I think so. (Clausal)
2.2. Ellipsis
It s the omission of a word or part of a sentence. Ellipsis is closely related to substitution and can be
described as substitution by zero . (Renkema, 2004, p.104).Ellipsis can be nominal, verbal, and

The Death Of A Blind Patient
As I walked by the medical unit in St Vincent s Hospital, I was told by a doctor to help watch an
elderly man. When I timidly stuck my head into the room, the doctor asked me not to let the man
leave. I entered and stood by the bed. Who s this? an old man in his sixties asked. I asked if I could
have a sit in order to know more about him. The friendly old man agreed, smiling and introduced
himself as Pat. I looked at his walking stick, unblinking eyes and finally asked, If you don t mind me
asking, are you errr.... blind? I was a third year medical student, who was only taught basic history
taking and physical examination according to systems, but I do not know what to expect from a blind
patient.
The old man laughed, a bit amused and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I can t use my eyes to see, but I use my heart to feel. Beauty lies in the mind of the beholder to be
precise, so one doesn t need eyes to see beauty. He asked me to look outside. I felt the warmth of the
rare appearance of sun in Dublin on my face and it felt good.
The truth is Pat lost his eyesight in an accident 30 years ago. At first he couldn t accept the fact and
even tried to commit suicide. His attempt failed and he realised that he had been given a second
chance by the help of doctors. Now he was admitted for a heart valve condition, and he was very keen
to be treated, so he can always use his heart to feel . Medically, heart plays an important role, pumping
blood and all, but to some people, it s something more. This was my first patient contact experience,
aside from passing pills and getting tissues. As I got pass my intimidated phase, I realised seeing the
patient as human in need of companionship and understanding, is part of what makes one a doctor.
That was a year ago, the last 2 weeks of my pre clinical studies in UCD, where I got the opportunity to
experience clinical practice in the hospital. I had just concluded my pre clinical stage and was still
oblivious to what is ahead. In the short two weeks exposure in the hospital, I got to play doctor, nurse
and best friend to some of the patients. I had the opportunity to shadow doctors through the medical
departments, to watch doctors take histories and listened to heart murmurs

Tap Water Research Papers
What s really in our tap water?
If one thing s for sure, it s the fact that we take the safety of our water for granted but would you be
surprised to hear that accidents occur every single year? These accidents make our drinking water
unfit for human consumption yet in spite of this, it still pours from our kitchen taps in thousands and
thousands of households up and down the country. Concerns are raised continually about the presence
of pesticides, gender altering chemicals and numerous other toxins, of which excess amounts can
prove extremely dangerous if undiscovered. What s more, the majority of these tap water
contaminants are added with purpose. So the question lies, what s really in our tap water and is it as
safe as we really think?
Tap water contaminants to think about

actually added in order to kill bacteria despite the fact that cryptosporidium is extremely resistant to it.

Early studies highlighted the fact that fish were beginning to change sex due to the occurrence of
certain chemicals found in our water. The focus then naturally shifted to the effects of such chemicals
on human fertility after it s shown such a decline in recent years. While water companies claim to
operate under very strict guidelines and codes of practice to prevent cements, linings and plastic resins
running in to our water supply, there have been a number of incidents in which contamination
prevention has quite clearly failed. Pesticides have also come under scrutiny after it s been revealed
they work their way into the ground and river systems from agriculture and even households. It s these
pesticides that are then mimicking the actions of hormones in the body and have been suspected as a
major cause of hormone related cancers in industrially developed

Boo Radley s Patience
Patience is Found in God Alongside a dirty creek, I found that the water breathed in my lungs and I
did not mind it. Almost a serenity, to those who have yet to know, it was a starkling contrast to the
manifestation of gloom that tattered at what the Lord gave to me not too long ago. With the branches
of orchard trees blurred and the faint hum of hummingbirds, I thought, the time to cut the rope would
soon fall. This rope that was laced with tar from those before who left nothing but more holes to bore
in memories that should ve been galore with joy. Ah, this rope that grew too tight had me plea to the
Lord to clean and sew it again. Oh, how else must I prosper? Lord, hear me and grant my wish. Yet,
the rope remained untouched. With a rock

What Does No Name Woman Mean
No Name Woman is a very controversial story written by the Chinese American author named Maxine
Hong Kingston, in 1976. No Name Woman represents several aspects within the Chinese culture,
Kingston struggling to find the right values between the Chinese and American culture. The story is
told by the mother, and the daughter (narrator) is imagining and recreating the events into an
exploratory story, Kingston trying to find out what part of her identity is Chinese Culture and what s
American culture. The story opens with a dramatic scene, a story within a story and throughout the
story there are different views of thoughts on actions the aunt pursued with. All though the story is
short, Kingston presents a lot of symbolic meanings and struggles ... Show more content on

Kingston struggles to see the world they live in, it s too indefinite and unclear meaning. Nevertheless,

Digital Imaging Technician
The role of the Digital Imaging Technician emerged when movie makers switched from film to digital
as the predominant medium for shooting movies and television. In the modern film industry, any
production will have at least one DIT or Data Wrangler on set at all times to dump and backup the raw
footage, which is their main responsibility. Although they are both in charge of transferring and
safeguarding footage, DITs have more responsibilities and play a bigger role both off set and on, and
thus need much more experience and knowledge than Data Wranglers.
A DIT can be defined as an assistant and consultant of the cinematographer with knowledge in the
areas of camera software, image quality, colour correction, and managing the workflow of a
production (Van Hove 2013). DITs have an important role in both pre production and post production
phases: Before shooting, they will consult with the cinematographer and decide on camera settings
such as recording format and colour space, and will also come up with some LUTs (Simpson 2017).
On set, the DIT will maintain the workflow of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

transcoding the footage, and is not involved with the camera itself nor does he work with directly the

Wickedness Of Mammon
Who demonstrates the courage to stand for righteousness?
The great pretense and deceptions of malevolence and wickedness in diverse forms and fashions have
wreaked mayhem with all our moral predeterminations. There is evil in diverse forms all around us.
Brother kills brother. Brother kidnaps brother, kills father and mother, for money. Mammon now
reigns supreme in the heart of our existence. This appearance of evil in the façade of mammon is
absolutely flustering perplexing to anyone raised in the traditional Igbo land and conventional moral
culture. How have we arrived at the abyss of evilness of evil? However, for the Christian who
surrounds her/his life with the Scripture it simply validates the profound wickedness of iniquity.

United States Immigration Policy Analysis
America has the largest illegal immigrant population in the world. As a country we are not doing
much to stop it. According to the Pew Research Center, there were approximately 5.7 million
undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. in 1995. As of 2014, there are around 11.3 million living
in America. Immigration is vital to this country. Unless you are 100% full blooded native, somewhere
down your family s history you immigrated to this county. It is evident that something needs to be
done to fix our immigration system, but what? Strengthening our borders, and deporting illegal
immigrants are not long term solutions to the United States problem. By passing legislation and

Descriptive Essay On A Bag
For most college students, carrying some form of bag is a necessity. Depending on the person, they
might carry a backpack, purse, messenger bag, tote, or something else. Bags are sometimes a way to
express yourself, and sometimes appearance doesn t matter rather the functionality of it. Many people
chose their bag of choice based on these ideas.
For myself, my choice of bag was due to convenience and I ll explain. The backpack I use currently, I
have had since my sophomore year of high school. It is a grey JanSport backpack, that has one large
pocket and one small pocket. It has a giant hole in the side from years of use and to put it nicely I am
to frugal to buy a new one. Until, the straps breakoff I will probably continue to use it. In high school I
chose this backpack based on appearance (Grey, which is my favorite color) and the popularity of the
brand. Today, I don t care much about the appearance, as many could gather from the giant hole. I use
it because I have it and its still functional.
Laptop: My laptop is a necessity for me and that is why I always carry it in my backpack. I m often on
campus most of the day and I use the laptop to work on assignments, quizzes, watch Netflix between
classes, or browse the internet.
Binder: My binder is a ½ inch white organizational tool. I use it to hold hard copies of assignments to
prevent damage and blank college ruled paper in case I need a piece for an in class assignment. In the

The Passion of the Feather Pen
The Passion of the Feather Pen Rayvon S. Harrell The poem peaceful decent is dedicated to my Great
grandmother Clarine B. Allen. Clarine B. Allen along with her husband J. D. Allen were responsible
for raising three generations of children to include my Grand mother, my mother and her siblings as
well as me an my two older sisters. To me this was one of the strongest women I have seen walk this
earth. This woman was a true blessing to me and all others that encountered her. What makes her so
special to me is the fact that she adopted my grand mother and raised many more kids than she
bargained for. If she wanted to give up she could have however she kept us all. Peaceful Decent I seen
a feather the other day dance it s way down, gently touch the ground and refuse to make a sound. Is
that not the saddest thing, to fall from a wing? Never to fly again, it must hurt as you descend.
However the saddest thing is also the most honorable, because even though the feathers flight must
cease it dances down touches the ground and gently dies in peace. For You I went between the valley
and picked a rose for you I thought that you would like it so I bought you two. You said that you liked
music so I wrote a song for you, created a symphony and played it for you to view. You always

My Family Has Several Values Such As Religion And Education
Jailen B. Leach
Mr. L. Sparrow
English 1100 039
September 16, 2016
My family has several values such as religion and education. Education is something my family has
valued for many years and this is because of my grandfather Bishop Leach Jr. Bishop Leach was born
on September 17, 1924. When he was a young child he joined Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church in Pittsboro,
NC. This church has been very important to my family because we have been attending this church for
generations. Bishop Leach attended and graduated from Horton High School, which later became
Horton Middle School. He graduated at the shocking age of 15. Bishop served in the United States
Army once he finished high school. After serving in the Army, he then attended North Carolina
College, now North Carolina Central University (NCCU) where he graduated within three years and
obtained his B.S degree in social studies in 1952. While in college, he married Myrtle Alston. The
couple were married for forty nine years and had two sons Bishop Bernard Leach and James Benjamin
Leach.
Bishop s career in the Chatham County School System began as a teacher at Horton High School. He
taught there for many years and he touched a lot of people s lives to the point where they tell me
countless stories about him. After his tenure at Horton he got promoted to assistant principal at
Northwood High School after they integrated. He eventually retired from the Chatham County School
System after 33 years of dedicated service. Bishop also

My Reading Journey
My Reading Journey
Reading is everywhere, it is one basic skill that we all must learn at some point in our life. Whether it
is reading a book, text messages, posters, or a billboard. Everybody has their own success story on
who and what taught them how to read. Most have been taught by their parents as a child, others had
the help of sibling and school teachers. Between my mom, older sister, school events and my teachers
I could master the art of reading. At an early age, I discovered this deep desire for education which
helped prosper in school.
Many different events in my life lead up to my ability to read. There are words all arounds no matter
where we go, so not learning how to read was never an option for me. My mother got me interested in
reading first because as a child she would sit me on her lap and read short children stories to me. At
night time, she would tuck me in and read me a bed time story. Her voice flowed so smoothly through
each word and she even mad the sound effects to make the story come alive. It became a point in time
where I would no longer wait for my mother to read to me, I would take out a book and attempt to
read on my own. Not knowing what any of the words meant or what they were saying I would try my
best to read them still. That was only the beginning for me, when I enrolled in kindergarten and my
teacher would assign homework to us there was always some form of reading that was required. I
would sit at the kitchen table struggling to

McDonalds Pricing Strategies
McDonalds focuses of four major pricing strategies: product line, promotional, penetration, and value
pricing. Product line pricing is a unique pricing strategy that falls solely on their many product lines
(McDonald s Pricing Strategies). Economic conditions may change rapidly, thus warranting change in
the product or the product line. During the Asian currency crisis, McDonald s replaced french fries
with rice in its Indonesian restaurants due to the cost considerations. With the collapse of the local
rupiah, potatoes, the only ingredient McDonald s imports to Indonesia, quintupled in price. In
addition, a new rice and egg dish was introduced to maintain as many customers as possible the
economic hardship (International Marketing. 9th edition pg.335). In order to appeal to the local
demographic, international marketers must make sure products do not contain ingredients that might
be in violation of legal requirements or religious or social customs. Since Indonesia is in a Muslim
country, McDonalds Maharaja Mac is made with non beef products (International Marketing. 9th

The Nature of Solitude in Chopin s Novel, The Awakening
The Nature of Solitude in Chopin s Novel, The Awakening
The name of the piece was something else, but she called it Solitude. When she heard it there came
before her imagination the figure of a man standing beside a desolate rock on the seashore. He was
naked. His attitude was one of hopeless resignation as he looked toward a distant bird winging its
flight away from him. (47)
All along the white beach, up and down, there was no living thing in sight. A bird with a broken wing
was beating the air above, reeling, fluttering, circling disabled down, down to the water...when she
was there beside the sea, absolutely alone, she cast the unpleasant, pricking garments from her, and for

The word desolate is used to describe the rock, offering up connotations of a barren, dismal
lifelessness. The figure of the man is naked, or exposed and defenseless. His demeanor reflects
hopeless resignation as he views a distant bird winging away from him. Here resignation can be taken
to mean an unresisting acceptance of something as inescapable and as a surrender. Looking at this
passage in this light, I cannot help but connect it with Robert. After finally vocalizing his love for
Edna, Robert is in a way naked, free of the pretenses of socially conscious manners. Following this
admission, however, Robert leaves off waiting for Edna, gives up on fulfilling his love, due, I think, in
many ways to the social consequences that this would surely bring. Thus Robert too is hopelessly
resigned to social moires which influence him to let his forbidden love wing away from him. This
passage then foreshadows both Robert s resignation and Edna s own experience at the end of the
novel.
The second passage repeats several of the same images. On the beach there is no living thing in sight
and Edna is absolutely alone. Thus the desolation and solitude from the first passage reappear. The
figure of the bird is also depicted again, only in this instance the bird has a broken wing and reel[s]
down, disabled towards the water, closer to the figure of Edna

Rather it be from the interesting personalities of the different individuals or the historic statements
made from certain characters. When election season rolls around, Americans are glued to their
television curious to see what or who makes the next bold move. Iowa native Mark Noll explains to
his readers the details of the 1800 election between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams in his book,
One Nation Under God. Are there similarities or differences from the election of 1800 and now? Have
we learned from past mistakes as Christians and human beings? I believe Evangelical Christians are
continuing to commit these errors even as time ticks on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the problems Evangelical Christians struggled with then, they are still battling on to this day.
Interestingly enough, when Jefferson won the election of 1800 and put his policies into effect, the
Evangelicals at that time were rather shocked. Jefferson s policies aligned more closely to biblical
teachings then the Evangelical favorite at this time, John Adams. It is compelling to think that the man
that they presumed would bring destruction, not only to their country, but their church as well, turned
out to be more biblically aligned in the long run. As cliché as it is, it brings us back to the saying, don t
judge a book by its cover. In today s election as well as the election of 1800, it doesn t matter which
party is chosen or which candidate ends up taking the presidency because a mixture of good and evil
is found in both parties. In our minds we may think we are voting for the perfect choice, that our
option is flawless and the only right answer for society. However, this is far from reality. Both parties
lie, both parties make promises they can t keep and they all claim to be the savior of our country. The
fact of the matter is, regardless of how perfect we think our candidate choice is, they, along with their
counterpart, struggle with all of these claims. They struggle now and they struggled back in the 1800
s. There is a line between

The Current State Of Obesity
ENGLISH COMPOSITION Term 2 By: Darwin Hatfield S104430 Fatty Taxes The current state of
obesity in the United States is a greater than that of other countries who live healthier lifestyles.
Living healthy lifestyles is a great goal for a country to look towards achieving, and encouraging these
lifestyles can benefit the country as well as the people. There are a lot of benefits for living healthy
lifestyles, while there are also many negatives to living an unhealthy lifestyle. Taxing fatty foods
would help to encourage buying healthy foods, and it could reduce obesity rates in America. There are
a couple of problems within this way of thinking like: profits declining, people having to spend more,
and the government going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the steady growing problem of obesity, something soon has to change. There has been many
programs to try and get citizens into shape, but the next step is to encourage eating healthy, and to
increase competition among healthy and unhealthy foods. By raising the price of fatty foods (foods
that are considered unhealthy by the daily standards) by a reasonable amount to help healthy food
compete with the low price of unhealthy foods; it could help the obesity epidemic greatly. Obesity
needs to be taken seriously because of how impactful it is becoming in our society. With obesity
getting to where it is today, It would be a great thing if the government put health as a concerning
issue. The health of the United states has been steadily declining for a couple of decades, and making
it a concerning issue could help raise awareness for obesity. Encouraging healthy lifestyles would help
improve everyone in the United States. The government already has a program to encourage eating
healthy called Let s Move with the spokesperson Michelle Obama. The program is being used to help
kids all across the United States to start getting into a healthier lifestyle. Over the past three decades,
childhood obesity rates in America have tripled...If we don t solve this problem, one third of all
children born today will suffer from diabetes at some point in their lives (Letsmove.gov). The obesity
epidemic is out of control, and more

Arkham Knight Research Paper
The Knight Is Darkest Just Before The Dawn
When I reached the conclusion of Batman: Arkham Knight after 12 hours of solid pacing, I literally
stood behind my chair like a five year old cheering for his favorite superhero, biting my nails as I
could no longer wait to see how it would all end. Not only does the finale of Batman: Arkham Knight
grant the legendary Arkham series the ending it deserves, but it also introduces so many new
gameplay mechanics that it manages to outdo the previous installments in the series, thus becoming
the very best comic book game in existence. If I am to be completely honest here, I have to say that
Batman: Arkham Knight is possibly one of the best video games I ever got to play, period.
Hold my hand, honey. Now push. Come on, push!Hold my hand, honey. Now push. Come on, push!
Whereas previous Arkham titles told their stories by implementing as many iconic super villains as
humanly possible, that of Batman: Arkham Knight is much more focused and centered. The menacing

In these separate side missions, you will mostly be spending your time beating up thugs while chasing
villains like Firefly, Two Face and Penguin, which doesn t always work in the game s favor. Most side
missions end with you confronting the villain behind it all, and instead of it going down with a good
old fashioned boss fight, villains are easily knocked out by performing a Takedown of sorts (e.g.
Stealth Takedown, Vehicle Takedown and Dual Takedown). This is probably my biggest complaint
with Batman: Arkham Knight, because I for one truly enjoyed the recurrent boss fight in previous
Arkham games. In any case, almost all of these side missions are varied enough that they will keep
you interested, and if not, you can always choose to chase another villain and come back to the initial
mission later thanks to the simple and clear Mission

The Awakening And Literacy Analysis
When you walk down Main Street in Fort Morgan, Colorado, a small farming town, you will see signs
that say there are no bikes allowed on the sidewalk. A part of me believes they were put up in my
honor. My parents had a local shop on Main Street and, when I was not stuck inside working with my
parents, I was riding my bike while trying to avoid the police officer who walked down the street
giving tickets to cars who overstayed their welcome.
From an early age, I learned the ropes of how to interact with customers, and by the third grade, I
thought of myself as the most business savvy person in my class. In order for me to navigate in a
business setting, I was required to develop a more grown up demeanor while at the store because it

learned to walk, and now it is where my younger niece runs after my sister while she waitresses. If
you drive down Main Street on a nice day, there is a high probability that my little sisters will be
outside or inside the restaurant helping my family. To this very day, that same police officer who
patrolled the sidewalks during my youth continues to walk down Main Street, letting my younger
sisters off with warnings and occasionally giving me parking tickets, probably trying to make up for
all the other tickets he should have given me for riding my bike many years

Congregation Analysis Paper
In the small congregation I attend, which consists of sixty mostly older faithful believers, the Book of
Common Prayers is their Bible. The congregation uses the Book of Common Prayer or the bulletin in
church. There seem to be no question on which Rite is used. The Prayer Book class was offered to
them as a group, no one step forth. I have never seen anyone from All Saints congregation holding or
having a Bible with them. Reverend Janis has tried to get some of the congregation to take classes
through the Stevenson School for Ministry. The congregation follows traditional old ways and they do
not like change. Four Episcopalians have left our small congregation and moved to other churches,
due to the change in the policy of the Episcopal Church ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They seem to be focus on their own church and not the whole Episcopal Church. Many in the
congregation believe that new members should be confirmed and be baptized in their home church
and not in the other local Episcopal Churches in the Northern Tier. (Congregation belief, when a
person joins a church or comes to be baptized, it is an individual response to the gospel and their new
home church). Last year we had two new members join All Saints and were confirmed over at St. Paul
s Episcopal Church. The Bishop has a Diocesan Schedule, time when she visits each of the Northern
Tier Churches. All Saints bishop visitation is this year 2017. There were only four All Saints members
which showed up for the confirmation. One significant problem in this small church is their feeling of
isolation from the institutional church, Episcopal Diocese. The congregation often considers
themselves as the church, as a family of local Christians. The Church congregation lives mostly in the
past and clings to the historical Church as their Church. The congregation has old embedded ways of
thinking and old ways of the heart. I have commented at the vestry meetings on the parish lack and
loss of fellowship in the last few years. No more coffee hour, no fellowship meals, and lack of Church
mission. Their response is lack of volunteer and lack of funds and

The Benefits Of Hiking And Trekking
Why should you use hiking poles? Is the primary question that you ask yourself, especially when you
are a beginner in hiking. Before you get the right answer for this question you need to consider two
things and that is Safety and Comfort. Hiking poles are just balancing sticks which help you maintain
good balance that is closely related to your overall safety and comfort. When you use two poles you
move as you have four legs which allow you better comfort and safety. Hiking experts say that using
hiking poles makes you switch to a 4x4 driving mode, by using your two legs and two hands.
As far as safety is concerned, a pair of hiking poles helps you prevent frequent fall downs on uncertain
tracks, avoiding aches in ankle or knee or even back; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You must use hiking poles especially when you are on your first hike. And, I think next time you will
yourself carry these sticks with you by seeing their countless benefits.
Thousands of people who have already used (or still using!) hiking poles for years could not be wrong
and this is the reason that poles are considered the traditional way to move on uncertain tracks while
maintaining good stability. Although, hiking poles have countless benefits but below given are some
significant benefits which enforce us to use them every time we go on hiking and trekking:
Safety Safety is the main reason of using hiking poles. Hiking poles allow your extra pair of legs to
maintain stability on uncertain trails and when crossing fast streams or difficult terrains. Without
having hiking poles you may fall down that may end up in injuries and accidents, and if you don t fall
even then ache in knees or ankles is a common mishappening you may face. When you have hiking
poles with you, they keep you safe by preventing fall downs, bad steps which may cause of sprained
ankle or knee.
Indeed, safety and convenience are the main reasons for using these hiking and trekking poles. Let s
see some other benefits/advantages of using

Social Information Processing Analysis
Theory of Social Information Processing:
A Theoretical Application
Nicholas McCann
Kennesaw State University Application of the Theory of Social Information Processing
In 1992 Joseph Walther developed the idea of social information processing which is an interpersonal
communication theory that describes how individuals establish relationships with one another through
a computer mediated environment and how they can progress and manage the relationships while
using an online medium or channel (Van Der Heide, Walther, 2009). Social information processing
theory can be applied to various forms of media such as computers, phones, videogames, and
television. The uses of these applications have different purposes. For instance online ... Show more

Thus, moral development is seen as a productive component of the online advancement being
described in social information processing (Terzian et al, 2015). As such, aggression is also actively
altered in response to feedback generated through the process of engaging in social life (Wang et al,
2009). The social information processing research on aggression have two broad issues that must be
addressed the regard of how both morals and aggression play apart in interpersonal communication.
The first has to do with the ways general systems or structures of social knowledge are defined
(Nucci, 2004). The second has to do with the relationships between general systems of knowledge and
the specific procedural knowledge, known as scripts, employed to direct specific actions in context
(Nucci, 2004). Because of these issues, moral development and aggression research has slowed in its
progression of understanding child

How Psychology Helps Us Understand the Concept of Language and Intelligence as Related to
Human Beings
Psychology, the study of behaviour and mental processes concerns itself with the reasons organisms
do what they do and how they behave in a particular way, For example why acquired skills are not lost
when learnt ; Why do children rebel against parents and, why humans speak, love and fight each other.
These examples of learning and behaviour are directly related to intelligence and language in human
beings.
It is said that language, foresight, musical skills and other hallmarks of intelligence are connected
through an underlying facility that enhances rapid movements. To most observers, the essence of
Intelligence is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon together developed a test called the ( Simon Binet Test ), to assess
the ability of children s performance at school. They developed a table used to compare the mental age
of a child to the actual age to produce the concept of I.Q. The conclusion was that a particular
intelligent person often seem quick and capable of juggling many ideas at once.
Not to be outdone, Wechler developed intelligence scales for both adults and children (WAIS WISC).
The scales are in two parts VERBAL AND PERFORMANCE, giving a clear picture of the person s
IQ; by identifying their strength and weaknesses in specific areas .The information can be used in
planning individualized instruction programs.
To help us understand the nature side of intelligence versus the nurture side Psychologists Bouchard
McGue (1981), and Harrell et al(1955) provided us with correlations and comparisons . In the case of
Bouchard and McGue the correlations thus provided were:
Identical twins reared apart .72
Identical twins reared together .86 compared to
Non identical twins reared together .60
Siblings reared apart .47
Then child and natural parent .50 while.
Then child and adopted parent .19
These results appear to strongly support the nature issue.
Numerous studies show or emphasizes the influences that environmental factors have on Intelligence.

Cleopatra VII Of Egypt
Cleopatra VII of Egypt
Cleopatra VII was born to the Ptolemaic dynasty, a family of greek, and was the last known pharaoh
of Ancient Egypt. Because of her beauty and charm she was often referred to Isis, the goddess of love,
marriage and heath. She was also known for her power of seduction and beauty. Because of this she
charmed her way to Julius Caesar and Mark Antony.
Cleopatra s father was King Ptolemy XII. Not much was known about Cleopatra s mother but it was
thought to be Cleopatra V Tryphaena, King Ptolemy s sister. It was thought that Cleopatra was greek
but some link her to black African.
When Ptolemy XII died, in 51 B.C., 18 year old Cleopatra and her brother, the 10 year old Ptolemy
XIII, became rulers of the throne. Cleopatra ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However a conflict was raging in Rome between a second triumvirate of Caesar s allies (Mark Antony,
Octavian and Lepidus) and his assassins, Brutus and Cassius. Both of the sides asked for Egypt s
support, and after a bit of stalling Cleopatra supported the triumvirate.
Mark Antony soon summoned Cleopatra to the Cicilian city of Tarsus to explain the role she had
played in the complicated aftermath of Caesar s assassination. Cleopatra sailed to Tarus dressed in the
robes of Isis and in an elaborate ship. Antony was seduced by her charms. He agreed to protect Egypt
and Cleopatra s crown. Later Cleopatra returned to Egypt and a bit later so did Antony, who left his
third wife and their three children in Rome. Shortly after Antony returned to Rome Cleopatra gave
birth to twins, Alexander Helios (sun) and Cleopatra Selene (moon).
Antony s wife fell ill and died and Antony was forced to prove his loyalty Octavian and marry his half
sister Octavia. Antony met again and became lovers again, and Cleopatra gave birth to another son,
Ptolemy Philadelphos. After a humiliating defeat in Parthia, Antony publicly rejected his wife Octavia
s efforts to rejoin him and instead returned to Egypt and Cleopatra. Antony then declared Caesarion
Caesar s son and that would mean that Octavian is no longer ruler as his adoptive son, So Octavian
declared war on

Textual Analysis Of 12 Angry Men
Although 12 Angry Men was produced in the late fifties it s still a great movie for any viewer to
watch. The film s intensifying conflict does not meet a twenty first century viewer s expectations such
as special effects and character development. However, it is interesting to consider how the film has
incorporated elements like coherent scenes and background music into its production. This film
provides a detailed dialogue of the characters along with character development which entices the
viewer throughout its duration.
This courthouse drama has assigned twelve men to jury duty. The viewer will find this murder case
mystifying by the underlying theme of prejudice. Although the film lacks in special effects and
providing a picturesque setting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the characters have a different opinion, which requires them all to have an opposing viewpoint.
The characters use of actions is what interests the viewer as they present their thought on what
occurred during this murder. If it s not the fury from juror three then we are following the calm,
rational juror eight. As juror three raises his voice and has one of his many mood altering moments,
we are afraid that he might lose his sanity. The acting in this film goes much further than the character
s mood, a great use of acting is in the reenactment scene of how the weapon entered the victim. As
juror three takes the knife and holds it over one of the fellow jurors and makes the motion of stabbing
him we are certain this man has lost control and let his anger take over. However, we are surprised
when he stops right before contacting the other man s body. 12 Angry Men not only has suspenseful
scenes that add to the overall movie, but it also has the emotional development that makes this film
magnificent. In the closing scene, after all men have agreed to pardon the defendant, juror three finally
reaches an emotional breaking point; however, it is not the way we anticipated. As all the other men
exit the room, he is left weeping at the table over the loss of his son. In a surprising moment, juror
eight sets aside the last few hours of fury between them and offers support to this man. While 12
Angry Men excels in acting

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word desolate is used to describe the rock, offering up connotations of a barren, dismal lifelessness. The figure of the man is naked, or exposed and defenseless. His demeanor reflects hopeless resignation as he views a distant bird winging away from him. Here resignation can be taken to mean an unresisting acceptance of something as inescapable and as a surrender. Looking at this passage in this light, I cannot help but connect it with Robert. After finally vocalizing his love for Edna, Robert is in a way naked, free of the pretenses of socially conscious manners. Following this admission, however, Robert leaves off waiting for Edna, gives up on fulfilling his love, due, I think, in many ways to the social consequences that this would surely bring. Thus Robert too is hopelessly resigned to social moires which influence him to let his forbidden love wing away from him. This passage then foreshadows both Robert s resignation and Edna s own experience at the end of the novel. The second passage repeats several of the same images. On the beach there is no living thing in sight and Edna is absolutely alone. Thus the desolation and solitude from the first passage reappear. The figure of the bird is also depicted again, only in this instance the bird has a broken wing and reel[s] down, disabled towards the water, closer to the figure of Edna ... Iowa native Mark Noll explains to his readers the details of the 1800 election between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams in his book, One Nation Under God. Are there similarities or differences from the election of 1800 and now? Have we learned from past mistakes as Christians and human beings? I believe Evangelical Christians are continuing to commit these errors even as time ticks on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the problems Evangelical Christians struggled with then, they are still battling on to this day. Interestingly enough, when Jefferson won the election of 1800 and put his policies into effect, the Evangelicals at that time were rather shocked. Jefferson s policies aligned more closely to biblical teachings then the Evangelical favorite at this time, John Adams. It is compelling to think that the man that they presumed would bring destruction, not only to their country, but their church as well, turned out to be more biblically aligned in the long run. As cliché as it is, it brings us back to the saying, don t judge a book by its cover. In today s election as well as the election of 1800, it doesn t matter which party is chosen or which candidate ends up taking the presidency because a mixture of good and evil is found in both parties. In our minds we may think we are voting for the perfect choice, that our option is flawless and the only right answer for society. However, this is far from reality. Both parties lie, both parties make promises they can t keep and they all claim to be the savior of our country. The fact of the matter is, regardless of how perfect we think our candidate choice is, they, along with their counterpart, struggle with all of these claims. They struggle now and they struggled back in the 1800 s. There is a line between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Current State Of Obesity ENGLISH COMPOSITION Term 2 By: Darwin Hatfield S104430 Fatty Taxes The current state of obesity in the United States is a greater than that of other countries who live healthier lifestyles. Living healthy lifestyles is a great goal for a country to look towards achieving, and encouraging these lifestyles can benefit the country as well as the people. There are a lot of benefits for living healthy lifestyles, while there are also many negatives to living an unhealthy lifestyle. Taxing fatty foods would help to encourage buying healthy foods, and it could reduce obesity rates in America. With the steady growing problem of obesity, something soon has to change. There has been many programs to try and get citizens into shape, but the next step is to encourage eating healthy, and to increase competition among healthy and unhealthy foods. By raising the price of fatty foods (foods that are considered unhealthy by the daily standards) by a reasonable amount to help healthy food compete with the low price of unhealthy foods; it could help the obesity epidemic greatly. Obesity needs to be taken seriously because of how impactful it is becoming in our society. With obesity getting to where it is today, It would be a great thing if the government put health as a concerning issue. The health of the United states has been steadily declining for a couple of decades, and making it a concerning issue could help raise awareness for obesity. Encouraging healthy lifestyles would help improve everyone in the United States. The government already has a program to encourage eating healthy called Let s Move with the spokesperson Michelle Obama. The program is being used to help kids all across the United States to start getting into a healthier lifestyle. Arkham Knight Research Paper The Knight Is Darkest Just Before The Dawn When I reached the conclusion of Batman: Arkham Knight after 12 hours of solid pacing, I literally stood behind my chair like a five year old cheering for his favorite superhero, biting my nails as I could no longer wait to see how it would all end. Not only does the finale of Batman: Arkham Knight grant the legendary Arkham series the ending it deserves, but it also introduces so many new gameplay mechanics that it manages to outdo the previous installments in the series, thus becoming the very best comic book game in existence. If I am to be completely honest here, I have to say that Batman: Arkham Knight is possibly one of the best video games I ever got to play, period. Hold my hand, honey. Now push. Come on, push!Hold my hand, honey. Now push. Come on, push! Whereas previous Arkham titles told their stories by implementing as many iconic super villains as humanly possible, that of Batman: Arkham Knight is much more focused and centered. The menacing ... Most side missions end with you confronting the villain behind it all, and instead of it going down with a good old fashioned boss fight, villains are easily knocked out by performing a Takedown of sorts (e.g. Stealth Takedown, Vehicle Takedown and Dual Takedown). This is probably my biggest complaint with Batman: Arkham Knight, because I for one truly enjoyed the recurrent boss fight in previous Arkham games. In any case, almost all of these side missions are varied enough that they will keep you interested, and if not, you can always choose to chase another villain and come back to the initial mission later thanks to the simple and clear Mission ... A part of me believes they were put up in my honor. My parents had a local shop on Main Street and, when I was not stuck inside working with my parents, I was riding my bike while trying to avoid the police officer who walked down the street giving tickets to cars who overstayed their welcome. The congregation uses the Book of Common Prayer or the bulletin in church. There seem to be no question on which Rite is used. The Prayer Book class was offered to them as a group, no one step forth. I have never seen anyone from All Saints congregation holding or having a Bible with them. Many in the congregation believe that new members should be confirmed and be baptized in their home church and not in the other local Episcopal Churches in the Northern Tier. (Congregation belief, when a person joins a church or comes to be baptized, it is an individual response to the gospel and their new home church). Last year we had two new members join All Saints and were confirmed over at St. Paul s Episcopal Church. The Bishop has a Diocesan Schedule, time when she visits each of the Northern Tier Churches. All Saints bishop visitation is this year 2017. There were only four All Saints members which showed up for the confirmation. One significant problem in this small church is their feeling of isolation from the institutional church, Episcopal Diocese. The congregation often considers themselves as the church, as a family of local Christians. The Church congregation lives mostly in the past and clings to the historical Church as their Church. As juror three raises his voice and has one of his many mood altering moments, we are afraid that he might lose his sanity. The acting in this film goes much further than the character s mood, a great use of acting is in the reenactment scene of how the weapon entered the victim. As juror three takes the knife and holds it over one of the fellow jurors and makes the motion of stabbing him we are certain this man has lost control and let his anger take over.
