Badminton originated in British India in the mid-1800s. It is a racquet sport played by two opposing players or pairs on a court with a net, with the aim of hitting the shuttlecock over the net in a way that the opponent cannot return. A match is won by winning the best of three games to 21 points each, unless the score reaches 30-29. Equipment includes a racquet, shuttlecock, and a court measuring 5x13.5 meters for singles or 6x13.5 meters for doubles divided by a 1.5 meter tall net.

2. BACKGROUNG The beginnings of badminton can be
traced to the mid-1800s in British
India, where it was created by British
military officers stationed there.

3. INTRODUCTION
It’s to hit the shuttlecock over the net in a way that the other
player or pair cannot hit it back properly before it hits the floor.
Every time this is done, the player or pair gets one point. The
winner of the rally (intercambio de golpeos) gets to serve.

4. SCORE
A winning score in badminton is 21. A player must win by two
points unless the score reaches 30-29. The winner of a
badminton match is the one who wins the best of three

5. EQUIPMENT
Court: It’s a rectangle measuring 5 meters in width
(anchura) (for singles) or 6 meters in width (for doubles),
and 13.5 meters in length, divided by a net.

Shuttlecock: It may be natural or
synthetic which is a piece of rubber
with stabilizing feathers attached.
Net: 1.5 meters tall

7. THE SERVICE
At the start of the rally (intercambio
de golpeos), the server and receiver
stand in diagonally opposite service
courts. The server hits the shuttlecock
so that it would land in the receiver's
service court. This is similar to tennis.
When the serving side loses a rally,
the serve immediately passes to
their opponent(s)

8. STROKES (golpeos)
Forehand and Backhand
All strokes can be played either
Backhand strokes are hit with the back of the
hand leading (like hitting with the knuckles)
Forehand strokes are hit with the front of the
hand leading (like hitting with the palm).

9. Smash, it is a shot hit with power and
speed downward to your opponent's
court. Contact the shuttle further in front of
your body than the clear or the drop shot.
STROKES (golpes)
Clears: hitting the shuttlecock high and to
the back of the opponents' court (rearcourt).
Dropshots: hitting the shuttlecock so that
it falls softly (suavemente) downwards
into the opponents' forecourt.
