HISTORY OF THE
GAME:
Badminton is a sport played by
hitting a shuttlecock back and
forth over a narrow net using a
long-handled racket.
It is an ancient game which is
originated in India, and was called
“POONA.”

BASIC SKILLS IN
BADMINTON
 Gripping- is the proper way of
holding or gripping the racket.
(FOREHAND and BACKHAND)
 Serving- is the stroke that is used to
move the shuttlecock from one side of
the court to the other in order to start
the play. It is also called a “service.”
RULES FOR
SERVING1.Right Service Court- you serve from
the right side of the court when you
or your opponent scores an EVEN
NUMBER of points.
2.Left Service Court- you serve from
the left side of the court when you or
your opponent scores an ODD
NUMBER of points.

 Backhand- is the
stroke used to return the
shuttlecock to the left of
a right-handed player or
to the right of a left-

Forehand- is the stroke
used to return the
shuttlecock to the right
of a right-handed player

Drive- is the fast shot
that makes the
shuttlecock fly
horizontally, over the
net.
STROKES
Drop shot- is a shot done
softly and with finesse. This
stroke allows the
shuttlecock to fall rapidly
and close to the net in the
opponent’s side of the
STROKES
Smash- is a hard-hit
overhead shot that forces
the shuttlecock sharply
downward into the
opponent’s court.
