The document discusses search trends and tactics for B2B SEO success in 2017. It provides data on search volumes and where people search showing that Google continues to dominate but is gaining more share. It also discusses different types of search results like featured snippets and how they impact organic click-through rates. Finally, it outlines six tactics for B2B SEO success, including optimizing for related precursor queries, publishing on platforms that easily rank, using lead magnets to capture content without barriers, recruiting influential contributors for links, and planning for a long-term investment with little short-term ROI.

Let’s be honest: for most content strategists and other people working with online content, SEO is The Worst Part Of The Job.

But SEO doesn't have to be this way. It’s time to begin a conversation between these two disciplines – they’re far more alike than you might think. And when they work together on behalf of users and customers, amazing things can happen that will drive your organisation forward.
I can’t promise to change your mind about SEO, but you’ll leave this session understanding how to build the essentials into your work in ways that are simple, make sense, and are pain-free. You’ll see what business impacts and wins for the customer SEO and Content Strategy have had at REI, a major retailer in the US. Rand Fishkin - The State of SEO & How to Survive Google’s Trojan Horsing of t...Turing Fest
Google is falling into a familiar pattern. First, they offer web publishers in a sector (flights, recipes, local, video, e-commerce) increased visibility and SERP display options. Next, they incent participation in specific formats and data structures. And, finally, they take that data for themselves, changing the SERPs to favor advertising, their own properties, and/or instant answers that can reduce publisher traffic. For web marketers, it’s a prisoner’s dilemma — do we give Google what they want now so a competitor doesn’t cave first, or do we hold back and miss out on traffic potential for fear of losing out long term? In this presentation, Rand will show data on how Google is being used today, and how it’s changing, then dive into strategic initiatives and specific examples of how savvy players can build a moat to protect against long-term risk. Included will be tactical wins every site can take advantage of to drive more traffic and improve their content and web marketing strategies. A collaborative process for marketing teams, designed to create high-performance digital experiences that solve real, observed customer pains.

For many people SEO is a set of hidden tricks, performed only from some “SEO gurus” who know the secrets of Google. A few years ago, SEO was easier, as it was enough to create a landing page, add some keywords and build links, in order to achieve high rankings.
Nowadays, SEO became more complex and difficult, as it is required to optimize several different aspects of the website. In the following guide we will examine the major steps of a successful SEO plan.
How to Survive Google's Trojan Horsing of the WebRand Fishkin
Rand's presentation from Mozcon 2017 on how Google enters and often crowds out competitors in vertical search spaces (and how marketers can fight back against this threat).

As web marketing undergoes its biggest shift in a decade, how we impact audiences needs to evolve. In this presentation, Rand shows how web marketers in content, search, social, and advertising (+ influencer marketing) can shift their strategic and tactical investments to align with what the big platforms offer, and how consumer behavior has changed, too.
Influencer marketing can be a powerful tactic, but the practice is far too narrow, and often focused on wrong metrics. In this presentation, Rand expands on what marketing through influence can do, and shows examples of a higher ROI form of marketing through channels of influence (not just Instagram & YouTube "influencers")
How to Kick Butt with Your Email OutreachRand Fishkin
Rand's presentation from Searchlove on how to get (almost) everything you've ever wanted with just an email. Search Engine Marketing - Competitor and Keyword researchETMARK ACADEMY
Over 2 Trillion searches are made per day in Google search, which means there are more than 2 Trillion visits happening across the websites of the world wide web.
People search various questions, phrases or words. But some words and phrases are searched
more often than others.
For example, the words, ‘running shoes’ are searched more often than ‘best road running
shoes for men’
These words or phrases which people use to search on Google are called Keywords.
Some keywords are searched more often than others. Number of times a keyword is searched
for in a month is called keyword volume.
Some keywords have more relevant results than others. For the phrase “running shoes” we
get more than 80M relevant results, whereas for “best road running shoes for men” we get
only 8.
The former keyword ‘running shoes’ has way more competition from popular websites to
new and small blogs, whereas the latter keyword doesn’t have that much competition. This
search competition for a keyword is called search difficulty of a keyword or keyword
difficulty.
In other words, if the keyword difficulty is ‘low’ or ‘easy’, there won’t be any competition
and if you target such keywords on your site, you can easily rank on the front page of Google.
Some keywords are searched for, just to know or to learn some information about something,
that’s their search intention. For example, “What shoe size should I choose?” or “How to pick
the right shoe size?”
These keywords which are searched just to know about stuff are called informational
keywords. Typically people who are searching this type of keywords are top of a Conversion
funnel.
Conversion funnel is the journey that search visitors go through on their way to an email
subscription or a premium subscription to the services you offer or a purchase of products
you sell or recommend using your referral link.
For some buyers, research is the most important part when they have to buy a product.
Depending on that, their journey either widens or narrows down. These types of buyers are
Researchers and they spend more time with informational keywords.
Conversion is the action you want from your search visitors. Number of conversions that you
get for every 100 search visitors is called Conversion rate.
People who are at different stages of a conversion funnel use different types of keywords.
