Moodle is one free web application that can benefit both students and teachers. It allows teachers more flexibility in using technology and creating new learning environments for students who need extra instruction. While online learning provides benefits like accessibility and collaboration, some potential issues include lack of internet access, insufficient teacher training, and lack of funding. With time and effort, online learning can help create an effective learning community that connects students to material and each other.

How did you learn to teach online? Self-taught? On the job? You and too many others. Only a fraction of teacher education programs report offering any formal training on the subject of online instruction. The growth in online course offerings makes it clear such training is needed, so then the question becomes how. If you were to design a course to prepare teachers to teach in an online or blended environment, what would it look like? What topics would be addressed?
In this presentation, we will share our approach as we discuss the design and development of a course we built to prepare pre-service teachers to teach online. The design of the course is based on the ideas of the constructivist instructional model known as Rich Environments for Active Learning (REAL). As supported by the REAL model, the online course incorporates a variety of hands-on, authentic, and collaborative activities.
The course consists of three major projects with an emphasis on seven broad topics or issues related to online learning. These seven topics are drawn from research in the field and supported by educational technology standards. Topics include ideas such as access and equity online, online instructional design principles, and assessment online.
Our course is, as most, a work in progress and though we are eager to share what has been developed to this point, we are just as interested in stimulating a dialogue related to best practices and models for preparing teachers for the online environment.

Blended learning mixes self-paced online learning with live virtual or in-person classroom sessions, allowing a gradual transition from traditional to online. When used for architecture education, blended learning transforms the design studio into a collaborative online and in-person space where students work on project-based learning and receive feedback from peers and instructors in various formats.
Defining blended learning
Blended learning combines online and face-to-face learning in a planned, pedagogically valuable way where a substantial portion of content is delivered online and students typically meet face-to-face as well. It converges asynchronous online learning with synchronous human interaction in face-to-face settings, blending the effectiveness of the classroom with self-directed online learning. Blended learning can be defined as a combination of time spent learning in a supervised physical location and learning online, with the student having some control over the time, place, path or pace of learning.
Moodle in the Classroom: An “in the trenches” perspective - Mark Bailye
A teacher implemented Moodle at a high school to enhance student learning. Initially, Moodle was underutilized with no clear support structure and grades tracked separately in Excel. After redesigning courses to be more visually appealing, relevant, and easy to navigate, engagement and time spent with students increased. A Moodle working group and administrator were created to provide top-down support. The teacher found that tailoring learning activities, monitoring progress, and rewarding engagement helped improve the student experience with Moodle.
Spotlight on emerging technology
Online learning involves completing classroom activities and instruction using the internet. It impacts students in several ways: it allows them to learn at their own pace; it reaches students who don't respond well to traditional classrooms; and it prepares them for the workplace by introducing them to technologies used in many careers. Technology facilitates participatory, authentic, and multimodal learning. It enables collaboration between students regardless of location or time. It also makes learning more relevant by incorporating real-world applications of concepts and utilizing various media that many students engage with outside of school. While some argue they lack time or skills for online learning, proponents counter that it streamlines instructional processes and training is available to support teachers.

Contextualising information literacy instruction: using real assignment briefs and previous student coursework to support student learning (5 minutes)
This session will discuss an afternoon workshop for first year Pharmacy students at the University of Reading, which was the result of a collaboration between staff from the Library, Study Advice, the International Study and Language Centre, and the School of Pharmacy. Having found that the instruction of study skills in isolation is often ineffective, we aimed to increase student engagement and retention by basing our workshop on an existing assignment brief, and we used student exemplars to encourage active learning.

Presentation at the EDEN Digital Learning Conference, 18-20 June 2023, Dublin, Ireland. Abstract: Emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic meant that universities had to reconsider ways of teaching. However, academics and students in South African higher education are still dealing with lingering challenges from the pandemic and are largely unfamiliar with good practices in blended learning and teaching. As learning and teaching support professionals working with academics in a specific faculty, our challenge was to consider how to best support academics to (re)design their courses, aligned to an institutional shift. The purpose of this case study is to critically reflect on the design and offering of a professional learning short course, within a specific faculty, to assist academics in adapting to blended teaching. The research objective is to determine how the professional learning course could support the needs of academics in moving to post-pandemic blended teaching. Making use of a qualitative reflective approach, we share the reflections of two faculty learning and teaching support staff and evaluation data from academic staff participants. We argue that i) a contextualized and responsive approach to academic professional learning is required to better support academics in embedding different forms of learning and teaching; and ii) that academics require dedicated time and space for course (re)design.

There is no one right way to use technology to underpin the curriculum. The range of possibilities can make it difficult for practitioners to know where to start, but as universities and colleges adapt to the new normal of teaching in hybrid environments support is needed to ‘get it right.’
There will be challenges, but you can overcome these if time and resources are directed at the right things. There are lots of misunderstandings about what it means to use technology to support teaching, learning and assessment. Academic staff need to approach the challenge with an awareness of those misconceptions as well as with a critical and creative mindset.
This webinar will showcase examples of how universities and colleges are currently adapting to provide flexible approaches to learning using digital. The focus will be on what lessons we have learned over the last six months and how we can make online learning a transformative experience for learners, rather than a deficit model.

Sarah Cornelius presented lessons learned from her experiences with virtual classrooms and MOOCs that can inform online educators. MOOCs at the University of Aberdeen engaged over 35,000 learners and improved instructors' digital skills, collaboration, and course design, with impacts on traditional teaching. Both formats provided learning for educators and influenced wider practices through reflection on online pedagogies.
Online tutoring towards a signature pedagogy
Presented at the Higher Education Colleges Association Conference (HECA) on April 19th in iBAT College Dublin. This presentation on based on doctoral research currently being undertaken in the Institute of Education in London. The presentation suggests that critical discussion should become the signature pedagogy of the MATL and it should be based on Brookfield and Preskill's 8 dispositions for critical discussion.
Bringing together internal and external students on Blackboard - Brett Fyfiel...
With the recent redevelopment of postgraduate courses in project management for the School of Civil Engineering and the Built Environment, new challenges were faced to make units more inclusive of a variety of enrolment preferences. The short term ambitions for the courses included developing units that are delivered both facetoface, and entirely online and have the potential to be scaled to meet the growing demand for continuing professional education. To ensure that students could join either facetoface or online offerings of the same units, the implementation team brought internal and external cohorts together on the same unit sites on Blackboard. The units are currently under evaluation but some early learnings may provide insight into new approaches to blended learning, and how these approaches have facilitated new ways of teaching and learning through tentative academic culture change.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UP
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
