AVIDIN – BIOTIN MEDIATED
ASSAY
AVIDIN – BIOTIN MEDIATED ASSAY
 The Avidin – Biotin system can be incorporated
into virtually every immunoassay, whereby an
antibody is conjugated to Biotin (Vitamin – B)
and then detected with Avidin (Glycoprotein)
(found in egg) or Streptaviridin (obtained from
the Actinobacteria Streptomyces avidinii)
conjugated to various Enzymes.
 Avidin – Biotin interaction is highly involved in
ELISA, Immunohistochemistry, Blotting
techniques, Affinity purification,
Immunoprecipitation and Cell surface labelling.
Advantages
 Very high sensitive.
 Increase the detection efficiency.
 Used in research more than the routine studies.
 Applied to many type of Biosensors and
Nanoparticles for increasing its efficiency.
 Detection of Protein – Drug interaction.
 Required less quantities of Primary antibody than
direct methods.
 Time saving method.
Disadvantages
 More expensive.
