Coca Cola And The Non Alcoholic Beverage Industry Essay
Coca Cola Industry Coca Cola was founded 125 years ago and has dominated the non alcoholic
beverage industry for a significant amount of time. It currently leads the industry in market
share at around 40% and 1.9 billion servings are consumed each day around the world (Business
Insider). The company is mainly known for their carbonated soft drinks, but they own around
500 brands of soft drinks, juices, bottled waters, sports drinks, and other types of drinks. Coca
Cola has a total of 17 brands that have individual revenues of over $1 billion including: Coca
Cola, Diet Coke, Powerade, Dasani, Fanta, and Minute Maid (Market Realist). Coca Cola is
served in over 200 countries across the world and can be enjoyed by all types of people;
however, they are targeting their advertisements to rapidly growing target markets. According to
Market Realist, Coca Cola spent $3.3 billion on advertisements in 2013 and these are geared
toward Hispanics, Millennials, and Teens, because these groups hold significant buying power.
There are many players in the industry that are necessary for getting the end products to restaurants,
retailers, and customers. The value chain for Coca Cola starts with the syrup producer and then
moves to the bottler, distributor, merchant, and finishes with the final customer (Market Realist).
Alternate Industry Definition Coca Cola s industry is defined as consumer goods, and then more
specifically non alcoholic beverages. One could categorize Coca Cola as a CPG

Girls Are To Gross As Boys Research
Girls are to gross as boys are to clean. In truth, a teenage girl would make her bed, listen to music,
or watch tv, while her teenage brother would sit there and eat pizza while playing video games.
Honestly, it might exist as an art, because who knew someone could be so good at being
disgusting. They lay out the whole plan. First they order the pizza. Then, they take their clothes off
and throw them on the floor (yes ladies, this includes dirty underwear). Afterwards, they order the
pizza......and wala! Here occurs the room of a messy teenage boy. Such an amazing piece right? Of
course, because every girlwants to enter a guy s room and see their underwear and week old pizza
boxes on the ground . Bringing along the point, not a single girl wants to date a guy who can t take
care of himself.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smellsville happens to be every girl s nose in your whole entire school. Do guys think that any
girl wants them to stand next to them let alone hold a conversation with them when all they can
focus on is how bad they smell? Small things like not wearing deodorant will put up a barrier
from a girl being able to get to know how great the guy can be. So some wear deodorant; that s
great, but what good does deodorant do if they don t look clean? To clarify, showers are these
amazing inventions that makes everyone nice and clean instead of rundown, sketchy, and
disgusting.Hence, a guy who looks clean and nice has a stronger chance of a girl talking to
them and/or like them on a daily basis. Now, for all the boys out there, cherish this advice; All
the girls see a clean cut guy and say wow....did you see him today? or he looks really cute . There
happens to be this feeling that most guys would like for this to happen to

The Memory Of De Twisting The Knob On The Stereo, Fats...
In the Memory of Dean
Twisting the knob on the stereo, Fats Domino s voice filled the open room.
I ll be down to get you in a taxi, honey, You better be ready about half past eight, Now dearie, don
t be late, I want to be there when the band starts playing.
When Dean recognized his favorite song song, a smile tugged at the corners of his lips, his eyes
growing bright. Using all the strength I had, I pulled my best friend out of his wheelchair, taking
his wrinkled hand into mine. We sway to the beat, back and forth, to and fro, all while Dean s
deep voice crooned away to a song nearly a century old. He is the perfect dancing partner

Louis Armstrong crooned in the background and a hunchbacked man smiled at me from across the
room. This was not your ordinary day care center.
As Open Circle s staff started to assign students to different clients in the large room, I struggled
to not let the disappointment show on my face. Here I was, excited to spend a day with little kids:
playing dress up, Barbies, hide and go seek, but instead, I ended in up in an old folks home. I
sighed heavily, at least I got out of gym class.
One of the staff members looked at me. McCrae, how about you go talk to Dean.
I scanned the room, looking for a name tag labeled Dean. And there it was, plastered to the
sweater of the hunchbacked man that has smiled at me. He looks just like a turtle... his head
pulled in close to his shoulders, back rounded, he was even wearing green. I walked over to him,
trying to bring a sincere smile to my face.
Hey Dean! My name is McCrae. Can I sit with you?
A gentle stare was my response. I plopped down in a chair next to him anyways, realizing that
starting a conversation with this man would not be easy.
So, Dean, how are you?
No response.
What s your favorite color? Mine is pink. Or blue. Or purple. I really can t decide.
Nothing. I sighed, looking around the room, waiting for a good question to pop out at me.
Dean! You are right next to the radio! Do you like music?
A simple nod. But I noticed the older

Riboflavin Fluorescence Spectra Essay
Experiment Three Report
Riboflavin Fluorescence Spectra
Name: Holly
Experimental Section: Include all details on preparation of standard solutions. Also include the
vitamin tablet brand name; the listed mass of vitamin B2 per tablet; procedure used for extraction
of the tablet and dilutions performed.
The experiment began by determining the best wavelength at which to excite the riboflavin
molecule, by examining the graph given in the laboratory manual[1]. Because plastic cells that
absorb UV light were being used to hold the solutions, the wavelength had to be 320nm. To ensure
that we could clearly see the peak of the riboflavin fluorescence in the stock solution, the peak we

1. Fluorescence vs Wavelength graph of Riboflavin 50ppb Stock Solution
The first part of the experiment involved graphing the fluorescence intensity of a 50ppb
Riboflavin stock solution. The wavelength to begin measuring from was based on two factors,
the fact that the plastic UV cells that were being used absorbed light up to 320nm, and that the
molecule needed to absorb light very strongly, and needed to be seen clearly on the graph. Thus,
reading the graph provided in the lab manual[1], it could be seen that there was a peak at around
~450nm which would easily be able to be seen without interference from the plastic cells. In the
sample measured from the stock solution, the peak occurred at a
wavelength of 523.52nm and reached a peak of 115.52.
The excitation spectrum was then measured on the same graph. The wavelength at which the peak
occurred on the fluorescence spectrum was entered into the program, and a scan range from 350nm
to 800nm was used. The excitation spectrum had two peaks, the first occurring at a wavelength of
366.15nm

Brief History Of Of Solar Cells Essay
Brief History of Solar cells
The history of solar cells goes back to the 19th century. Edmond Becquerel was first to notice the
effect of light on a certain molecule; in 1839 he found that two different brass plates immersed in a
liquid produced a continuous current when illuminated with sunlight. We now believe that he had
made a coppercuprous oxide thin film solar cell. (Fraas, 2016) this property is called the
photoelectric effect, and could be harnessed. An article made by the Union of Concerned
Scientist said, The first photovoltaic (PV) cells, made of selenium, were created in the late 1800s.
In the 1950s, scientists at Bell Labs revisited the technology and, using silicon, produced PV cells
that could convert four percent of the energy in sunlight directly to electricity. (How Solar Panels
Work, 2015) Nowadays, researchers and scientist are trying to come up with new ways to develop
solar cells.
Location
The recommended location to install the solar system is on top of DOW building. The cause to
choosing this location is because it is not close to any trees or building, that will affects the output
of the system by shading effect.

Dogs In Koki s The Hidden Life Of Dogs
The Hidden Life of Dogs is about how dogs have feelings like us, they rank themselves, and they
want to be together. Dogs really do have feelings. A dog named Violet missed her boyfriend

this because she cares about Bingo.
Dogs rank themselves. They follow true rankings where we humans don t tend to. A low ranking

The Trial Of The Ku Klux Klan
The United States has a long, troubled history of slavery and racism within its culture. It is an
unfortunate part of our history that we continue to see to this day. The Argument of D. T.
Corbin in the Trial of the Ku Klux before the States Circuit Court is a closing argument to the
jury from David T. Corbin. Corbin was a very respected and qualified individual at this time. He
would go on to win the Senate election a few years after this document was created. The trial
was for the Ku Klux Klan and whether or not their beliefs and actions were legal. Corbin was
strongly against the klan and made sure people knew it. The events that took place in the trial of
the Ku Klux Klan, held in Columbia, South Carolina, happened in a tumultuous time period in
United States history. The hearing took place in November of 1871, which was six years after the
end of the Civil War. As many people know, the Civil War was fought largely due to the role of
slavery in the United States. The southern states, the Confederacy, were pro slavery, and the north,
the Union, was against it. Racismwas a major issue at the time. African Americans had little to no
rights before the war, and after the war Congress amended the constitution to give more rights to the
African Americans in this country to much disgust of the southern states. In this document Corbin
portrays the KKK in a negative manner by calling on witnesses who were a part of the klan, calls
witnesses who were victims, and brings up

The Future of Freedom
History
The Future of Freedom
In his book, The Future of Freedom, Fareed Zakaria writes that we must make democracy safe for
the world. The American democracy sets the standard around the world for liberal democracies, but
transitions across for other countries across the world toward a liberal democracy is often difficult
and with poor decision making, close to impossible. Liberal democracies are the systems in
which people choose their government and live in an environment of freedom. In Zakaria s book,
he warns the readers of several telltale signs that their process toward a liberal democracy is in
trouble. He uses examples of different countries doing it right and doing it wrong the ones
discussed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zakaria writes, They know that to introduce capitalism into China requires much more than
economic changes, so they have allowed significant reforms of the administrative and legal
systems as well (81). Although Zakaria argues that China must reform its political system, he
says a quick transition to a liberal democracy can lead to chaos, because of the large size of the
country and the small size of its middle class. Other reasons, and probably more realistic reasons
for China s slow progression towards a democratic state is that the leaders want to clasp to its
stronghold on the political system.
Can democracy work in China? Zakaria feels it cannot be ignored the progress the Chinese
economy has had under its state as a free economy. But the problem continues to be the political
progress of this country. China still only has a small middle class, which is detrimental towards
a functioning liberal democracy. During the 1980s, there were pushes for political reform from
members of the political scene as well as from the public but all that came to a halt during the
massacre in Tiananmen Square when soldiers stomped out the early fires of democracy
(Zakaria,83). But in 1992, China s leader, Deng Xiaoping, gave his blessing for open economic
markets (Zakaria, 83). That leads us to the present time.

The Fundamental Forces in Nature
The fundamental forces in nature have been around for centuries. Tying everything together
many scientist and physicist have came about to help with the theories of these fundamental
forces which include gravitation, electromagnetism, strong, and weak forces. Physicist like
Maxwell, Newton, Fermi, Chadwick, and Kepler, have made a strong impact on how people see
the world today. These fundamental forces are what goes on in everyday life and what we still
see till this day. The point we are going to get to are the coming about of these theories and how
they are seen in the outside world and also in physics. In my paper I will be splitting up how the
scientist/physicist came to contribute to the fundamental forces and how each scientist came to
contribute to the coming and discovery of each force. In the second part of the paper I will be
describing how each force strong and weak are used in nature. These topics will help anyone in
the search for information on the topic of forces that came to be due to physics. History of the
fundamental forces In 1605 Kepler published the laws of planetary motion which included 3 laws.
First law was that every planet is an ellipse with the sun. Second a line segment connecting a
planet and the sun sweeps out equal areas during equal intervals of time. Lastly the third law which
states that the time it takes for a planet to orbit the Sun increases rapidly corresponding with the
radius of the planets orbit. These laws came to help the

Is Firefighter Equipment Safe Enough Essay
Is Firefighter Equipment Safe Enough? Firefighter equipment is constructed of some of the most
high tech material that has been created in order to keep the firefighter as safe as possible.
Constantly new items are made that are proven to be better than the last. Their equipment protects
them from a lot. They are equipped with oxygen to breathe when in a smoky building; they have
extremely large knee pads to crawl on the ground with because smokerises so that is where the
visibility is the best; they have coats and pants to protect them from the heat and also to help
prevent them from getting cut on any sharp materials they may encounter; they have steel toed
boots so if anything drops they won t get hurt; and they have helmets to protect their heads.
However, even though it seems like everything is perfect some equipment can use some tweaking.
My brother, Alex Paris, a firefighter in Prince William County said, I think the equipment we have
today is very safe maybe almost too safe because it is causing us to go further in the fireand not
being able to feel the heat. In the past firefighters used their ears as sensors to determine when it
was too hot and time to back out but now we have nomexhoods that prevent us from doing this.
When I asked him if there were any concerns he had with it he said, I would like to have a
facemask with increased visibility in very smoky conditions. I would also like knee pads that are
thicker and easier to move around in because in most

Global Economic And Financial Crisis
Many lessons were learned from the aftermath of 2008 global economic and financial crisis. One of
them was the effect that foreign direct investments (FDI) had on the global economy, particularly
on developing countries.
By definition, an FDI is an investment that involves some ownership and/or operating control. The
foreign residents are usually multinational corporations (MNCs) (Cohn 412).
The market crash drastically altered the nature of FDI. After consistent growth between 2003 and
2007, investments in developed countries experienced a steep fall, suffering from about a 29 per
cent drop. In contrast, investments in developing countries skyrocketed, peaking at an about 43 per
cent increase (UNCTAD 2009).
However, more revealing than the unexpected turn of events was the way FDI significantly
affected, and was affected by the status of the global economy showing further importance to one
type of economic entity that naturally comes with FDI, multinational corporations.
This paper will argue that the ever constantly increasing presence and influence of MNCs prove
that they are entitled to be considered as legitimate global political actors.
Despite the considerable negative connotation that MNCs have garnered, their undeniable enormity
and influence in generating the flow of FDI, their contribution in hastening the distribution of
technology and knowledge throughout the globe, and their status as the absolute major player in
modernization and globalization through

Pakist The Country s Newfound And Social Conscience
The answer is, it depends.
It depends on when you run into the average Pakistani male. Pakistan is I don t care Islamic when
he is drooling over Katrina Kaif s cleavage on TV or the cinema screen.
Conversely, Pakistan is full on Islamic when the same gent is at Friday prayers, nodding solemnly
in agreement with the imam who rails at those dastardly Yahood and Nasara (Jews and Christians).
You notice I do not mention Pakistani females here? This is because we, horror of horrors, are a
patriarchal society like much of Asia, so women do as they are told.
This also brings me to the reason for my rant: the country s newfound social conscience.
Inked weekly by many brave columnists of the English language press, theirs is a revolution
hellbent on destroying the Islamist status quo. Since I am a card carrying coward, I will stick to
mundane facts.
These spawns of souped up liberalism are adamant that every problem with Pakistani society can be
traced right back to Mecca.
Women are considered inferior in Pakistan, blame Islam. The economy has gone down the gutter,
blame Islam. The politicians are all crooked and in bed with the Taliban, it must have something to
do with the long dead Gen.Zia!
It completely eludes them that religion has been used as a political tool by the haves to handle the
have nots since time immemorial.
Also, in their eagerness to pin the Islamic tail on Pakistan, they talk up the destructive role of
religion but completely disregard

Whether or not you realize it, there is energy all around us. This energy changes and influences
the way the world works. When someone tells you to think of energy, the first thing that likely
comes to mind is electricity or heat, as that is what we commonly see and hear about. If you are
asked to think of a powerful kind of energy, you may think of radiation or fire, as they can kill
people and destroy forests. Although these may be the most obvious kinds of energy, there is
another kind of energy that can be both more helpful and more dangerous; shock waves. These
waves surround us, yet we have only just began to explore their many uses. Shock waves can be
used by animals and humans for both utility and offense.

A rumor that almost everyone has heard of or seen at one point is an opera singer breaking glass
with nothing but their voice. Although it seems like an awesome power, it is sadly less than real.
The idea is that the performer would sing at the objects resonant frequency loud enough to shatter
the glass. Resonant frequency is the frequency that an object vibrates at when hit. When a sound at
an object s resonant frequency is played, it causes the object to vibrate. Ideally, the glass would
shatter because it vibrates itself to pieces (Schrock, 2007). In theory it is possible, but a human
cannot create enough volume without machinery to shatter glass unless it is the finest, most fragile

Monstrosity In The Monster
Friedrich Nietzsche once said, Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he
does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back
into you . The term monster comes from the word monД“re, which means to warn. Monsters are
used to reveal or make reality a situation that is often left ignored. Often the word monsterbrings up
any stories such as Frankenstein, Dracula, and Beowulf. The stories of these monsters have a lasting
impact on generations because of their ability to captivate audiences both young and old. Cultures
around the world have a connection with monstrosity. Throughout history, we have the opportunity
to witness the struggle between mankind and the beast. Sadly, very few have yet discovered the
true connection between monstrosity and humanity. Throughout the years, in the quest for control,
humanity has created a merciless beast very few understand. The true monster in these stories are
us, humans. These creatures are paying the price because of society s ruthless behaviors.
Monsters originate in folklore, which is found and almost every culture. With folklore, you can
pass down family traditions, history, and discipline. It connects us to the outside world , and
provides us with the major challenges faced in our society. Monsters are used to reveal a situation
that is left ignored. Merriam Webster defines Monsters as, an imaginary creature that is typically

Morality of Giving Essays
How much money is one morally obligated to give to relief overseas? Many In people would say
that although it is a good thing to do, one is not obligated to give anything. Other people would
say that if a person has more than he needs, then he should donate a portion of what he has. Peter
Singer, however, proposes a radically different view. His essay, Famine, Affluence, and Morality

focuses on the Bengal crisis in 1971 and claims that one is morally obligated to give as much as

So he is saying If a person saw a child drowning in a lake, he would be morally obligated to try
and save him. Any inconvenience caused from wading into the lake would mean nothing
compared to letting the child die. Now, if a person would be morally wrong not to save the child
who is geographically near him, would he not be obligated to save the child in another country? Is
having thousands of miles between the giver and the one in need a good enough reason for him not
to have the same obligation to help? The clear conclusion is that, although there are far more
people in dire need than one could ever help, one must give as much as he can. One must
provide so much support where, by giving more, he would be worse off than the receiver of his
gift. While this argument uses reason as it s primary means of convincing, the emotional aspect of
it is also very important. The essay attempts to capture the readers emotions by putting them in the
situation of seeing a child drown, there is no normal person who wouldn t help. When he asks
about providing famine relief to the people in other countries, the reader feels guilt, which
strengthens the essay s argument. The ideals presented in his essay present a world where there is
no famine or poverty, and people care about about everyone else equally. This is not something that
is expected to happen, and certainly not from one persons

A Country Churchyard And The Deserted Village By Oliver...
The poems Elegy Written in A Country Churchyard. by Thomas Gray, and The Deserted Village,
by Oliver Goldsmith, both lament the current state of society in rural areas. Each poem idealizes
rural life, but offers differing ideas of the people of the villages. Gray s poem talks about the
unrealized Miltons and Cromwells of the poor that were able to live their lives honestly,
innocently and the free of temptation faced by the wealthy. Goldsmith talks of the swain and the
tradesmen, and the politics that force to live in famine or leave their lands. In their poems, Gray
mourns what the people could have been and never did, while Goldsmith grieves for who these
people once were and what has become of them, which makes his poem feel more... Show more

In the city, there is more opportunity for people to be educated, so talents are more easily
discovered and cultivated, just like gems and flowers in well explored territories. In the country,
the unexplored potential of the people leaves room for so much possibility. This goes against the
idea that the people of the more wealthy urban areas are naturally greater than the rural folks,
equalizing them through the life them never had. Gray continues on his evaluation of these
unrealized people by saying that they are actually blessed because Far from the madding crowd

simple country people, never knowing what they are missing out on and never having to face
the temptations that come with being wealthy and great. These innocents are free from greed
that the wealthy suffer from daily. They blessed to be more pious due to a lack of education

those with wicked lives of the wealthy. Death is what gives the hope and value to the rural lives.
Whether a person is wealthy or poor, everyone dies eventually. The ornateness of the resting

Summary Of Self Respect By Didion
Weekly Critique 2 Summary of the reading Self Respect by Didion is an essay that compares a
lot of things about self respect to our lives. In the beginning of the Self Respect essay, the author
talks about the situation she experienced when she was nineteen years old which had to do with
the failure to be pledged to a college honor society. She did not have the grades to qualify her to
be pledged into the honor society, which made her come to a realization that we are not handed
out things in life rather, we have to earn them no winning smiles will do over here, no pretty
drawn lines of good intentions (Didion 2). She also realized that we are not judged in this life
based on who we are but on what we have done to earn them and that made her feel a loss of
innocence the day I did not make Phi Beth Kappa nonetheless marked the end of something and
innocence may well be the word for it (Didion 2) hence making her understand that all situations
have a consequence. This essay compares people with no self respect to children sleeping in the
bed they made for themselves showing us that children who did not make well supported beds did
not sleep well at night. This shows us that people without self respect lacked the very foundation to
teach them about it the measure of slipping prestige is that one tends to think only of homely
children (Didion 4). She also lets us understand that the things we do to earn respect as children is
not the same we do as adults. The things she

The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir Summary
In both the worlds of existential feminism and radical feminism, the housewife is separated a
degree below other women, as a figure deemed lesser, or even other, form women within the
feminist movement. In Simone de Beauvoir s 1949 novel The Second Sex, the housewife
embodies the feminine other, a woman who takes the reason men subjugated women, embraces
it, and then uses it to her advantage. She becomes the example of how women adapt and survive
in the patriarchy, and the women who sacrifices her autonomy to live in comfort and safety,
rather than attempt to reform society. Beauvoir makes the housewife the definition of the
feminine other to justify how women sacrifice their autonomy and ability to obtain
transcendence if they remain complacent in male society. What defines women as the other is
not found in the state of nature or social history but in her biology and the overbearing
consequences of her ability to become pregnant. In Beauvoir s work, Women are inherently
different from men in the biology and how omnipresent it is in their lives, and biology defines
women because at the time she wrote The Second Sex the consequences of sex permeated every
aspect of daily life. With birth control still difficult to obtain, the consequences of sex are at the
forefront of a women s mind, and if she wants to be sexually active, she must constantly consider
the impacts another life will have on her finances, her home, her relationships and her work, if she
is able to find it. A

Human behavior, the SCT defines, as reciprocal interaction of personal factors, behavior, the

Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet Essay
The Tragedy Behind Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a classic tragedy, that in which two people s love causes death and suffering.
Each character in the play is affected by Romeo and Juliet s love in some form. The juvenile love
between Romeo and Juliet caused tragedy to become the vision of this play, together they did not
fully understand how their actions would affect their families and friends. The tragedy of Romeo
and Juliet is one of the most famous love stories in english literature, the characters flaws and
strengths are the main reason the play s popularity Romeo claimed to love Rosaline, and was
sure she was the woman he wanted to be with. As soon as Romeo saw Juliet he knew he was in
love, he says, Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear! (Shakespeare.mit.edu) Romeo was so
young he didn t understand how love works or anything really about love. He only focuses on
beauty instead of inner beauty. This inexperienced way of thinking is the character flaw that lead
to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo falling in love with Juliet is a good example of what

At its very core, this philosophy employs a systematic approach to the elimination of waste in seven
key areas. These areas could be summarized as eliminating overproduction and producing only what
customers need; eliminating unnecessary delay, down or idle time; streamlining inventory
processes to eliminate unnecessary purchasing and storing of raw materials; prevent over
processing by removing any unnecessary steps in processes or procedures; streamlining the motion

Another factor which must be understood before explaining the events that took place before,

B4c Weaknesses
Most successful businesses around the world go to great lengths to analyze their respective
company to dial in their efficiency, growth, well being and overall success. One analysis that
should never be overlooked in business is the SWOT analysis. The SWOT analysis is part of a
company s strategic planning process where it connects its objectives and strategies to actionable
tactics carried out by employees. Specifically, SWOT is part of the situation analysis, where the
company determines where it stands on four key strategic areas to better determine what changes to
make (The Purpose of a SWOT Analysis, 2018). This analysis identifies the strength, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats to company. The following analysis will be conducted... Show more

B4C s technology has proven to increase the life of a 5.56 caliber barrel by a factor of 3 when
compared against chrome. This eliminates the need for chrome, and increases the new condition

improvement. According to the ATF, approximately 1.8 million new long barrel rifles and 740k
new shotguns are sold in the US each year. Additionally 135k replacement rifle and shotgun barrels

My Dreams Of Attending Nursing School
Where I come from, there isn t much to say that people succed due to poverty. It is a real struggle
and absolutely abnormal thing to follow and pursue dreams. Attending nursing school, to me, has
been a dream that I have had for over ten years. Through the countinous support of my family,
colleagues, and teachers, I have finally reached my dream of being admitted for nursing school. It
was a long and tough journey, but I am here! I am so excited, as well as my family, because they
have seen my struggles. Fighting against poverty while raising a family of four on a single
income and attending college is a daily struggle, but I am slowly getting to be where I want to
be through job security as a nurse. In the meantime, it is a constant battle. All the while, we must
also endure life s hurdles that have been thrown at us and worry about my youngest son who is
four years old and has battled Neuroblastoma stage 4 cancer. Even though my son s cancer is
stable, we must still make regular trips to Dallas as all his doctors are there. Although my son is
a very energetic, one of a kind, very special kid, his illness has been a financial burden on us. We
are constantly having to make sure we have our vehicle maintenanced because these trips take a
toll on it. My husband is the only one who works now, so any extra expenses that will be needed
for school will require me to get a loan. This is why I need and welcome any extra help for school
that I can get. There isn t much I can

Persuasive Essay On Drunk Driving Laws
Essay 3 Drunk driving accounts for nearly a third of traffic related deaths in the United States.
Because of this it is perfectly reasonable for laws to be in place to prevent drunk driving. In my
belief, these laws are just and put in place to not only protect the driver under the influence, but
those around them. John Rawls would also believe that these ideas are just due to the law not
impeding on anyone s basic liberties. The laws are also the same for everyone, no matter the social
standing they are in. In the utilitarian viewpoint of Jeremy Bentham the law would be just as well.
The law protects the community and saves many from pain. When comparing the multiple
viewpoints of John Rawls, Jeremy Bentham, and myself, we all would come... Show more content

This speaks directly to Rawls s point, it does not take away the constitutional rights of anybody. In
my viewpoint this is a valid reason that the laws are just. They protect others while not taking away
any basic liberties from the driver. This penalty for driving under the influence is the same for
everyone as well no matter the social class. Someone who is poor has the same punishment as
someone who is wealthy.
Like Rawls s and my own view Bentham would also find the laws and penalties for drunk driving
just. When someone gets into the driver s seat of a car drunk they run the risk of hurting
themselves and others. When taking into account Bentham s view on the pleasure and pain
system this hurt would cause an intense amount of pain. The pain could be physical for those
who are in the accident or emotional for the family members of those who have been hospitalized
or have passed away. The laws that are put into place to protect people from drunk driving
accidents help make sure these pains do not occur. Even if the laws do not bring pleasure to most it
stops pain from the community. To me this is very important in making the law just. These stops
multiple potential accidents and saves many people pain.
Overall the three viewpoints of Rawls, Bentham, and I are similar in the ways we believe the drunk
driving laws are just. The laws are in place to save

Examples Of Contingent Liability
contingent liability A potential liability dependent upon some future event occurring or not
occurring. For example, a company is named as a defendant in a $1 million lawsuit. Does that
mean the company automatically has a liability of $1 million? What if the lawsuit has no merit
and can easily be defended? If it is probable that the company will lose and the amount can be
estimated, a journal entry is prepared to debit Loss from Lawsuit and to credit Lawsuit Payable.
If it is possible but not probable that the company will lose, the journal entry is not made but
instead there will be a footnote disclosure. If the lawsuit is remote (a nuisance suit without any
merit), there is no need for a journal entry and no need to disclose the... Show more content on

If the company is certain that no units will be returned as defective, the company will have no
liability and no warranty expense.
Accountants will record a journal entry to report a liability on the balance sheet and a loss or
expense on the income statement only if the loss contingency is both probable and the amount can
be estimated.
If a contingent liability is possible (but not probable), no journal entry is needed. However, the
accountant must disclose the contingent liability and loss in the notes to the financial statements.
If a contingent liability is remote, then the accountant will not report the liability and loss and will
not disclose it.
Where is a contingent liability recorded?
A contingent liability that is both probable and the amount can be estimated is recorded as 1) an
expense or loss on the income statement, and 2) a liability on the balance sheet. As a result, a
contingent liability is also referred to as a loss contingency. Warranties are cited as a contingent
liability that meets both of the required conditions (probable and the amount can be estimated).
Warranties will be recorded at the time of a product s sale with a debit to Warranty Expense and a
credit to Warranty Liability.
A loss contingency which is possible but not probable, or the amount cannot be estimated, will not
be recorded in the accounts. Rather, it will be disclosed in the notes to the financial

My First Episode Of Izombie Essay
I woke up at eight in the morning, I was ready and confident. I put the clothes I was going to wear
in the dry, so it can take off all the wrinkles. While I was waiting for my clothes to dry I made my
self something to eat. I made myself eggs with sausage and I was sitting down watching my
favorite show to keep my mind off of the event. It was too early as well, so I had spare time to do
what I want to do. Time passed and I was at my seventh episode of iZombie. I was really in to it, I
checked the time and it was eleven o clock.
I stopped at the right time to get ready. I went to go get my clothes, it was a button up shirt with
slacks and dress shoes. I got all the paper work I thought would be important to take and I took a
pen to look more interested and prepared. I started walking to the bus which came at twelve twenty
in the afternoon. I got on and took 20 minutes to the place. Before that I was on the phone listening
to music and making sure I had everything done in some of my college classes.
I was also thinking about my future how would I look like working in my dream job. I always
wanted to work as a social worker or help people out in some way. Especially teenagers, they
have troubles in their house hold that only they know and refuse to talk about. Not only them but
little children as well. I care more for little children because it hurts me seeing them get hurt
because of what a parent does. I lived in a place where my dad was abusive and learned to control

Athenians, how the dead were handled, and the sacred ground of burial site. When families had

A Brief Biography of Victorian Author Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe s importance as a main stature in literature is based upon his dark and thought
provoking poems. His difficult life influenced his melancholy writings. Edgar Allan Poe was born
January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. His parent s occupation was traveling actors. At the age
of two, his father abandoned the family leaving young Poe without a father figure. Poe s mother
was poor, which resulted in him having an extremely hard childhood. His mother passed away as he
was growing up and his foster parent John Allan, a wealthy Richmond tobacco merchant, took Poe
into his household. Poe did not have the best relationship with John Allan, in fact he felt very

The constant answer of nevermore sent the narrator in a frenzy, just as Poe knew Virginia would
no longer come back and he turned to alcohol. At that moment the situation was made worse.
The narrator is hoping when he dies he s going to see Lenore in Heaven as Poe is hoping to see
Virginia. When the raven says nevermore it gives the narrator idea that she possibly did not
make it to Heaven, and he would not see Lenore anymore. Since Virginia was also known as
Lenore, one could believe that Poe is relating to the poem to him seeing Virginia again in
Heaven. Poe s The Raven is the poem that stands out the most because in it, Poe determines it is
some kind of messenger coming to Poe to answer whether he will ever see his love Lenore. Poe
had many great poems and short stories such as The Fall of the House of Usher . This portrayed
a dark and gloomy theme of the Usher family. The narrator approaches the house of Usher on a
dark and quiet day at midnight. The narrator sees the house; it looks to have been absorbed by a
wicked spirit and contaminated atmosphere from the rotting trees and unclear tarns in the area.
Roderick was also the cause of the bad vibe the narrator got when he arrived at the house. He lost
communication with the outside world and buried his sister alive. Their family had a hidden secret,
which was incest. In the article Sprits of the Dead, Poe states, The breeze the

Character Sketch Of Draupadi
The above lines clearly elucidates the character of Draupadi as a fiery female, redefines the role
of women, issue of subjectivity can be witnessed and her psychological makeup is evident
clearly. It creates an admired feminine portrait which is both modern and timeless. Panchaali
wallows in anger and helplessness when Kunti come to a decision that all her five sons should

for her that she is only married to him. But Draupadi is disillusioned by him for he abides by his
mother s wish and doesn t say anything. While Draupadi s father, brother and the Pandavas
examine about the practicality of Draupadi espousing five brothers, their focal point is family
honour and customs. Not even a single person gives eminence to Draupadi s desires. The depiction
of Draupadi as an angry woman in a man s world brings out the status of women in a patriarchal
society where women s wishes are not considered as important. She justifies this lifetime sentence

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of White Privilege
In our world today, White privilege is an existing matter. White privilege can be defined as
advantages that assist white individuals in flourishing and gaining success. Privilege is in and of
itself a struggle to equality. The advantages in privilege display the inequality that is in our
society towards those who are not white. We as a society usually do not see the inequality in the
opportunity and quality of life amongst those of different races, and this results from the fact of
wealthy white counterparts being in control and in power since the birth of this nation. White
privilege is something most do not think about and is not fully identified in our daily lives. People
of color suffer the most from obtaining privilege in our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of our History has been consistently recorded by the winners (whites) and that those who
succeed and hold the most power can choose to recognize what they wish and cold shoulder the
minor and undesirable technicalities. With the ideology of white privilege, white men created the
domination of white privilege centuries ago particularly controlled by whites. White privileged men
established the approach of domination from their position and power of their skin tone, granting
them the authority in society. Although a great number of white Americans do not tediously rely
on these interest; they have been taking advantage of this privileges for numerous centuries. But
those who are not white have been declined in countless cases, whether from achieving a distinct
job, to simply gaining comparable treatment as those who are not colored individuals. In the

With that being said, it exerts pressure to the company as customers will hold a certain degree of
bargaining leverage as they can easily switch to other competitors so as to be able to gain more
profits for themselves. As a result, Nike will have to lower their product price in order to retain
and attract more customers. Hence, the high buyer power poses as a threat for the company.
3.3 Competitive Rivalry
Intense competition from established and new sportswear manufacturers and accelerated changes in
technology and consumer preferences in the industry for sportwear can potentially threaten Nike s
share growth. Nike competes with a significant number of companies, including Adidas, Under
Armour, V.F. Corp., Puma, among others. Vertical retailers that design and manufacture their own
products such as Lululemon Athletica and Uniqlo also plays a part in the competition for Nike.
However, Nike is currently ranked first as the world s most valuable sports brand and its largest
competitor, is Adidas. Nike currently has a Market Cap of $65.87 billion while Adidas has only
$22.76 billion (Forbes, 2014). Although Adidas is presently losing out to Nike in terms of sales
and market share, it intents to implement new strategies so as to grow (Forbes,

Budget And Financial Issues Of The United States
BUDGET AND FINANCIAL ISSUES At its formation, the UN had inherited financial problems
from its predecessor the League of Nations (McDermott, 2000). Seventy years down the lane,
financial problems have been at the core of the UN activities in peacekeeping missions. Thus, the
issue of budgetary crisis with regards to financing old and new peacekeepingoperations continue to
persist. According to McDermott (2000), peacekeeping have been both the making and near
breaking of the organization. On one hand, peacekeeping expansion from traditional peacekeeping
to peacekeeping and now peacebuilding have contributed to the exponential growth of the
organization. On the other hand, the spread out of peacekeeping increases cost and have overly...

As peacekeeping missions are organized on adhoc basis, each peacekeeping mission budget is
authorized separately, and member states are assessed per mission. It is interesting to point out
that the peacekeeping budget allocation since its creation has always been far more than the
regular budget of the UN as a whole (McDermott, 2000). To demonstrate this, according to
McDermott (2000), the budgeted expenditures of the UN in 1994 reached $8.3 billion, of which
$1.3 billion went to regular budget; $3.3 billion to peacekeeping operations; and the remaining
$3.7 billion on operational activities and programs supported by voluntary contributions. As noted
in Article 17 of the charter, the expenses of the organization shall be borne by member states and
approved by the General Assembly (UN charter). However, the charter does not point out the scale
of contributions from member states. The system evolved over years with formulas that determine
contributions based on the capacity of countries to pay. As a result of the special role played by
the five permanent members of the Security Council, the system allocates to them a very high
percentage (McDermott, 2000). In December 2000, the General Assembly reaffirmed this with
resolution A/RES/55/235. (UNGA, 2015). The system therefore categorizes member states into
groups: A, B, C and D, for scaled of assessed contributions. Category A

  • 3. Girls Are To Gross As Boys Research Girls are to gross as boys are to clean. In truth, a teenage girl would make her bed, listen to music, or watch tv, while her teenage brother would sit there and eat pizza while playing video games. Honestly, it might exist as an art, because who knew someone could be so good at being disgusting. They lay out the whole plan. First they order the pizza. Then, they take their clothes off and throw them on the floor (yes ladies, this includes dirty underwear). Afterwards, they order the pizza......and wala! Here occurs the room of a messy teenage boy. Such an amazing piece right? Of course, because every girlwants to enter a guy s room and see their underwear and week old pizza boxes on the ground . So some wear deodorant; that s great, but what good does deodorant do if they don t look clean? To clarify, showers are these amazing inventions that makes everyone nice and clean instead of rundown, sketchy, and disgusting.Hence, a guy who looks clean and nice has a stronger chance of a girl talking to them and/or like them on a daily basis. I ll be down to get you in a taxi, honey, You better be ready about half past eight, Now dearie, don t be late, I want to be there when the band starts playing. When Dean recognized his favorite song song, a smile tugged at the corners of his lips, his eyes growing bright. Using all the strength I had, I pulled my best friend out of his wheelchair, taking his wrinkled hand into mine. Louis Armstrong crooned in the background and a hunchbacked man smiled at me from across the room. This was not your ordinary day care center. As Open Circle s staff started to assign students to different clients in the large room, I struggled to not let the disappointment show on my face. Here I was, excited to spend a day with little kids: playing dress up, Barbies, hide and go seek, but instead, I ended in up in an old folks home. I sighed heavily, at least I got out of gym class. One of the staff members looked at me. McCrae, how about you go talk to Dean. I scanned the room, looking for a name tag labeled Dean. And there it was, plastered to the sweater of the hunchbacked man that has smiled at me. He looks just like a turtle... his head pulled in close to his shoulders, back rounded, he was even wearing green. I walked over to him, trying to bring a sincere smile to my face. Hey Dean! My name is McCrae. Can I sit with you? A gentle stare was my response. I plopped down in a chair next to him anyways, realizing that starting a conversation with this man would not be easy. So, Dean, how are you? No response. What s your favorite color? Mine is pink. Or blue. Or purple. I really can t decide. Nothing. I sighed, looking around the room, waiting for a good question to pop out at me.

Also include the vitamin tablet brand name; the listed mass of vitamin B2 per tablet; procedure used for extraction of the tablet and dilutions performed. The experiment began by determining the best wavelength at which to excite the riboflavin molecule, by examining the graph given in the laboratory manual[1]. Because plastic cells that absorb UV light were being used to hold the solutions, the wavelength had to be 320nm. To ensure that we could clearly see the peak of the riboflavin fluorescence in the stock solution, the peak we chose to measure was the one approximated at ... Include values for absorption, excitation and fluorescence spectra maxima. Upload your spectra in this section. Figure 1. Fluorescence vs Wavelength graph of Riboflavin 50ppb Stock Solution The first part of the experiment involved graphing the fluorescence intensity of a 50ppb Riboflavin stock solution. The wavelength to begin measuring from was based on two factors, the fact that the plastic UV cells that were being used absorbed light up to 320nm, and that the molecule needed to absorb light very strongly, and needed to be seen clearly on the graph. Thus, reading the graph provided in the lab manual[1], it could be seen that there was a peak at around ~450nm which would easily be able to be seen without interference from the plastic cells. In the sample measured from the stock solution, the peak occurred at a wavelength of 523.52nm and reached a peak of 115.52. The excitation spectrum was then measured on the same graph. The wavelength at which the peak occurred on the fluorescence spectrum was entered into the program, and a scan range from 350nm to 800nm was used. The excitation spectrum had two peaks, the first occurring at a wavelength of 366.15nm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Brief History Of Of Solar Cells Essay Brief History of Solar cells The history of solar cells goes back to the 19th century. Edmond Becquerel was first to notice the effect of light on a certain molecule; in 1839 he found that two different brass plates immersed in a liquid produced a continuous current when illuminated with sunlight. We now believe that he had made a coppercuprous oxide thin film solar cell. (Fraas, 2016) this property is called the photoelectric effect, and could be harnessed. An article made by the Union of Concerned Scientist said, The first photovoltaic (PV) cells, made of selenium, were created in the late 1800s. In the 1950s, scientists at Bell Labs revisited the technology and, using silicon, produced PV cells that could convert four percent of the energy in sunlight directly to electricity. (How Solar Panels Work, 2015) Nowadays, researchers and scientist are trying to come up with new ways to develop solar cells. Location The recommended location to install the solar system is on top of DOW building. The cause to choosing this location is because it is not close to any trees or building, that will affects the output of the system by shading effect. • 9. The Trial Of The Ku Klux Klan The United States has a long, troubled history of slavery and racism within its culture. It is an unfortunate part of our history that we continue to see to this day. The Argument of D. T. Corbin in the Trial of the Ku Klux before the States Circuit Court is a closing argument to the jury from David T. Corbin. Corbin was a very respected and qualified individual at this time. He would go on to win the Senate election a few years after this document was created. The trial was for the Ku Klux Klan and whether or not their beliefs and actions were legal. Corbin was strongly against the klan and made sure people knew it. The events that took place in the trial of the Ku Klux Klan, held in Columbia, South Carolina, happened in a tumultuous time period in United States history. The hearing took place in November of 1871, which was six years after the end of the Civil War. As many people know, the Civil War was fought largely due to the role of slavery in the United States. The southern states, the Confederacy, were pro slavery, and the north, the Union, was against it. Racismwas a major issue at the time. African Americans had little to no rights before the war, and after the war Congress amended the constitution to give more rights to the African Americans in this country to much disgust of the southern states. In this document Corbin portrays the KKK in a negative manner by calling on witnesses who were a part of the klan, calls witnesses who were victims, and brings up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Future of Freedom History The Future of Freedom In his book, The Future of Freedom, Fareed Zakaria writes that we must make democracy safe for the world. The American democracy sets the standard around the world for liberal democracies, but transitions across for other countries across the world toward a liberal democracy is often difficult and with poor decision making, close to impossible. Liberal democracies are the systems in which people choose their government and live in an environment of freedom. In Zakaria s book, he warns the readers of several telltale signs that their process toward a liberal democracy is in trouble. He uses examples of different countries doing it right and doing it wrong the ones discussed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zakaria writes, They know that to introduce capitalism into China requires much more than economic changes, so they have allowed significant reforms of the administrative and legal systems as well (81). Although Zakaria argues that China must reform its political system, he says a quick transition to a liberal democracy can lead to chaos, because of the large size of the country and the small size of its middle class. Other reasons, and probably more realistic reasons for China s slow progression towards a democratic state is that the leaders want to clasp to its stronghold on the political system. Can democracy work in China? Zakaria feels it cannot be ignored the progress the Chinese economy has had under its state as a free economy. But the problem continues to be the political progress of this country. China still only has a small middle class, which is detrimental towards a functioning liberal democracy. During the 1980s, there were pushes for political reform from members of the political scene as well as from the public but all that came to a halt during the massacre in Tiananmen Square when soldiers stomped out the early fires of democracy (Zakaria,83). But in 1992, China s leader, Deng Xiaoping, gave his blessing for open economic markets (Zakaria, 83). That leads us to the present time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tying everything together many scientist and physicist have came about to help with the theories of these fundamental forces which include gravitation, electromagnetism, strong, and weak forces. Physicist like Maxwell, Newton, Fermi, Chadwick, and Kepler, have made a strong impact on how people see the world today. These fundamental forces are what goes on in everyday life and what we still see till this day. The point we are going to get to are the coming about of these theories and how they are seen in the outside world and also in physics. In my paper I will be splitting up how the scientist/physicist came to contribute to the fundamental forces and how each scientist came to contribute to the coming and discovery of each force. In the second part of the paper I will be describing how each force strong and weak are used in nature. These topics will help anyone in the search for information on the topic of forces that came to be due to physics. History of the fundamental forces In 1605 Kepler published the laws of planetary motion which included 3 laws. First law was that every planet is an ellipse with the sun. Second a line segment connecting a planet and the sun sweeps out equal areas during equal intervals of time. Lastly the third law which states that the time it takes for a planet to orbit the Sun increases rapidly corresponding with the radius of the planets orbit. These laws came to help the ... Firefighter equipment is constructed of some of the most high tech material that has been created in order to keep the firefighter as safe as possible. Constantly new items are made that are proven to be better than the last. Their equipment protects them from a lot. They are equipped with oxygen to breathe when in a smoky building; they have extremely large knee pads to crawl on the ground with because smokerises so that is where the visibility is the best; they have coats and pants to protect them from the heat and also to help prevent them from getting cut on any sharp materials they may encounter; they have steel toed boots so if anything drops they won t get hurt; and they have helmets to protect their heads. However, even though it seems like everything is perfect some equipment can use some tweaking. My brother, Alex Paris, a firefighter in Prince William County said, I think the equipment we have today is very safe maybe almost too safe because it is causing us to go further in the fireand not being able to feel the heat. In the past firefighters used their ears as sensors to determine when it was too hot and time to back out but now we have nomexhoods that prevent us from doing this. When I asked him if there were any concerns he had with it he said, I would like to have a facemask with increased visibility in very smoky conditions. • 14. Global Economic And Financial Crisis Many lessons were learned from the aftermath of 2008 global economic and financial crisis. One of them was the effect that foreign direct investments (FDI) had on the global economy, particularly on developing countries. By definition, an FDI is an investment that involves some ownership and/or operating control. The foreign residents are usually multinational corporations (MNCs) (Cohn 412). The market crash drastically altered the nature of FDI. After consistent growth between 2003 and 2007, investments in developed countries experienced a steep fall, suffering from about a 29 per cent drop. In contrast, investments in developing countries skyrocketed, peaking at an about 43 per cent increase (UNCTAD 2009). However, more revealing than the unexpected turn of events was the way FDI significantly affected, and was affected by the status of the global economy showing further importance to one type of economic entity that naturally comes with FDI, multinational corporations. This paper will argue that the ever constantly increasing presence and influence of MNCs prove that they are entitled to be considered as legitimate global political actors. Despite the considerable negative connotation that MNCs have garnered, their undeniable enormity and influence in generating the flow of FDI, their contribution in hastening the distribution of technology and knowledge throughout the globe, and their status as the absolute major player in modernization and globalization through ... • 17. Pakist The Country s Newfound And Social Conscience The answer is, it depends. It depends on when you run into the average Pakistani male. Pakistan is I don t care Islamic when he is drooling over Katrina Kaif s cleavage on TV or the cinema screen. Conversely, Pakistan is full on Islamic when the same gent is at Friday prayers, nodding solemnly in agreement with the imam who rails at those dastardly Yahood and Nasara (Jews and Christians). You notice I do not mention Pakistani females here? This is because we, horror of horrors, are a patriarchal society like much of Asia, so women do as they are told. This also brings me to the reason for my rant: the country s newfound social conscience. Inked weekly by many brave columnists of the English language press, theirs is a revolution hellbent on destroying the Islamist status quo. Since I am a card carrying coward, I will stick to mundane facts. These spawns of souped up liberalism are adamant that every problem with Pakistani society can be traced right back to Mecca. Women are considered inferior in Pakistan, blame Islam. The economy has gone down the gutter, blame Islam. The politicians are all crooked and in bed with the Taliban, it must have something to do with the long dead Gen.Zia! When someone tells you to think of energy, the first thing that likely comes to mind is electricity or heat, as that is what we commonly see and hear about. If you are asked to think of a powerful kind of energy, you may think of radiation or fire, as they can kill people and destroy forests. Although these may be the most obvious kinds of energy, there is another kind of energy that can be both more helpful and more dangerous; shock waves. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you . The term monster comes from the word monД“re, which means to warn. Monsters are used to reveal or make reality a situation that is often left ignored. Often the word monsterbrings up any stories such as Frankenstein, Dracula, and Beowulf. The stories of these monsters have a lasting impact on generations because of their ability to captivate audiences both young and old. Cultures around the world have a connection with monstrosity. Throughout history, we have the opportunity to witness the struggle between mankind and the beast. Sadly, very few have yet discovered the true connection between monstrosity and humanity. Throughout the years, in the quest for control, humanity has created a merciless beast very few understand. The true monster in these stories are us, humans. These creatures are paying the price because of society s ruthless behaviors. Monsters originate in folklore, which is found and almost every culture. Many In people would say that although it is a good thing to do, one is not obligated to give anything. Other people would say that if a person has more than he needs, then he should donate a portion of what he has. Peter Singer, however, proposes a radically different view. His essay, Famine, Affluence, and Morality , focuses on the Bengal crisis in 1971 and claims that one is morally obligated to give as much as possible. His thesis supports the idea that We ought to give until we reach the level of marginal utility that is, the level at which, by giving more, I would cause as much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (399). He says... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So he is saying If a person saw a child drowning in a lake, he would be morally obligated to try and save him. Any inconvenience caused from wading into the lake would mean nothing compared to letting the child die. Now, if a person would be morally wrong not to save the child who is geographically near him, would he not be obligated to save the child in another country? Is having thousands of miles between the giver and the one in need a good enough reason for him not to have the same obligation to help? The clear conclusion is that, although there are far more people in dire need than one could ever help, one must give as much as he can. One must provide so much support where, by giving more, he would be worse off than the receiver of his gift. While this argument uses reason as it s primary means of convincing, the emotional aspect of it is also very important. The essay attempts to capture the readers emotions by putting them in the situation of seeing a child drown, there is no normal person who wouldn t help. When he asks about providing famine relief to the people in other countries, the reader feels guilt, which strengthens the essay s argument. In the beginning of the Self Respect essay, the author talks about the situation she experienced when she was nineteen years old which had to do with the failure to be pledged to a college honor society. She did not have the grades to qualify her to be pledged into the honor society, which made her come to a realization that we are not handed out things in life rather, we have to earn them no winning smiles will do over here, no pretty drawn lines of good intentions (Didion 2). She also realized that we are not judged in this life based on who we are but on what we have done to earn them and that made her feel a loss of innocence the day I did not make Phi Beth Kappa nonetheless marked the end of something and innocence may well be the word for it (Didion 2) hence making her understand that all situations have a consequence. This essay compares people with no self respect to children sleeping in the bed they made for themselves showing us that children who did not make well supported beds did not sleep well at night. This shows us that people without self respect lacked the very foundation to teach them about it the measure of slipping prestige is that one tends to think only of homely children (Didion 4). The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir Summary In both the worlds of existential feminism and radical feminism, the housewife is separated a degree below other women, as a figure deemed lesser, or even other, form women within the feminist movement. In Simone de Beauvoir s 1949 novel The Second Sex, the housewife embodies the feminine other, a woman who takes the reason men subjugated women, embraces it, and then uses it to her advantage. She becomes the example of how women adapt and survive in the patriarchy, and the women who sacrifices her autonomy to live in comfort and safety, rather than attempt to reform society. Beauvoir makes the housewife the definition of the feminine other to justify how women sacrifice their autonomy and ability to obtain transcendence if they remain complacent in male society. What defines women as the other is not found in the state of nature or social history but in her biology and the overbearing consequences of her ability to become pregnant. In Beauvoir s work, Women are inherently different from men in the biology and how omnipresent it is in their lives, and biology defines women because at the time she wrote The Second Sex the consequences of sex permeated every aspect of daily life. With birth control still difficult to obtain, the consequences of sex are at the forefront of a women s mind, and if she wants to be sexually active, she must constantly consider the impacts another life will have on her finances, her home, her relationships and her work, if she is able to find it. Shannon Bennett of Thomson Reuters takes a look at the shifts in active ingredient sourcing During the past decade, as manufacturers have pursued lower costs and a more favourable regulatory environment, API sourcing has expanded from regulated into less regulated markets. However, sourcing from emerging markets has revealed a variety of challenges which pharmaceuticals companies are continuously working to overcome. The European Generics Association (EGA) recently requested consideration of an EU Bolar Export Provision. This would allow EU generic drugs companies to develop and manufacture products specifically for export to the global market without breaching existing EU patent protection. Such a provision would not only benefit EU companies by levelling the API playing field but would also facilitate the entry and availability of generic drugs in pharmerging markets, where the only available option may be more expensive branded drugs. The future of EU API manufacturing could be influenced by the outcome of other pending initiatives that would require more from companies in terms of investment in and oversight of suppliers. For example, the adoption of the EU s Falsified Medicines Directive requires the verification of all finished dose packs throughout the supply chain, as well as for APIs exported to EU, proving they were produced within quality specifications equivalent to those in EU. Source: Robert Pollack, Lachman Consultants Figure 1 GDUFA fees An additional requirement has been proposed which would require API manufacturers to verify the source of all starting materials, ensuring that they originated from the facilities claimed by the manufacturer of the starting materials. Because of this it is perfectly reasonable for laws to be in place to prevent drunk driving. In my belief, these laws are just and put in place to not only protect the driver under the influence, but those around them. John Rawls would also believe that these ideas are just due to the law not impeding on anyone s basic liberties. The laws are also the same for everyone, no matter the social standing they are in. In the utilitarian viewpoint of Jeremy Bentham the law would be just as well. The law protects the community and saves many from pain. This speaks directly to Rawls s point, it does not take away the constitutional rights of anybody. In my viewpoint this is a valid reason that the laws are just. They protect others while not taking away any basic liberties from the driver. This penalty for driving under the influence is the same for everyone as well no matter the social class. Someone who is poor has the same punishment as someone who is wealthy. Like Rawls s and my own view Bentham would also find the laws and penalties for drunk driving just. When someone gets into the driver s seat of a car drunk they run the risk of hurting themselves and others. When taking into account Bentham s view on the pleasure and pain system this hurt would cause an intense amount of pain. The pain could be physical for those who are in the accident or emotional for the family members of those who have been hospitalized or have passed away. The laws that are put into place to protect people from drunk driving accidents help make sure these pains do not occur. Even if the laws do not bring pleasure to most it stops pain from the community. To me this is very important in making the law just. As peacekeeping missions are organized on adhoc basis, each peacekeeping mission budget is authorized separately, and member states are assessed per mission. It is interesting to point out that the peacekeeping budget allocation since its creation has always been far more than the regular budget of the UN as a whole (McDermott, 2000). To demonstrate this, according to McDermott (2000), the budgeted expenditures of the UN in 1994 reached $8.3 billion, of which $1.3 billion went to regular budget; $3.3 billion to peacekeeping operations; and the remaining $3.7 billion on operational activities and programs supported by voluntary contributions. As noted in Article 17 of the charter, the expenses of the organization shall be borne by member states and approved by the General Assembly (UN charter). However, the charter does not point out the scale of contributions from member states. The system evolved over years with formulas that determine contributions based on the capacity of countries to pay. As a result of the special role played by the five permanent members of the Security Council, the system allocates to them a very high percentage (McDermott, 2000). In December 2000, the General Assembly reaffirmed this with resolution A/RES/55/235. (UNGA, 2015).
