– In this audio drama they use a lot of non diegetic sounds. It
helps to set the scene and suggest to the listener the feel/mood
of the character. For example toward the end of the clip its
suggested by the music that the doctor is angry and powerful.
– The story is told with no narrator, just the voice actor that play
the characters. This means they will have to use a lot of sound
to suggest what is going on in the scenes. This can be seen at 45
seconds into the clip when it is suggested that something has
happened to Barry (killed?). I think not having a narrator makes
this audio drama confusing, as there is a lot going on in the
scene and the listener is left at some times wondering wjat
exactly s going on.

– Creepy ominous background music at the start
– Stories are told by a narrator rather than it being a scripted play.
– This audio drama is told by a narrator only. There are not voice actors.
There is little to no non-diegetic sound, which make the story feel
empty and dark. It matches the style of horror since it make you feel
alone(because of how quiet it is).I think they chose to do this because
thy were going for a bed time story style for their product
– However I think that only having a narrator telling the story can be
limiting. Having voice actor in the story makes it alive and a lot more
interesting. It can sound boring at times hearing the same tone of
voice telling the story. I think it would have been lot better with some
non diegetic and diegetic sounds, it would have drawn in the listener
in with the feel of the story.

– This is a horror/mystery story about a doctor who gets a call in the middle of the
night from one of his ex patience saying that he had been buried alive.
– It’s a scripted audio play. There is no narrator, which works well in this drama
because the sounds imply enough for the listener to get what's happening. Having
a narrator would have ruin the feel of the drama since he listener feel like they are
really there and are intrigued to see what happens, if a narrator started describing
everything it would take them out of that space.
– They used sound effects to make it sound as if they are talking over the phone, this
helps the listener make more sense of what's going on. They also included sounds
of number being dialled on a phone to indicate to the listener that the main
character is making a call.
– When the character are indoors there is little background music, when they are
outside they add the sound of tress rustling etc.
– When they start digging up the body they add sound effects to match it, helps the
ready imagine what it would visually looked like.

– this is a sci-fi audio drama. The story is that there is a ship stuck in space in need of
repairs, the crew in that ship find a port to repair it, however they aren't to be trusted.
– In this audio drama there is both a narrator and voice actors. I think this is clever since
there is a lot going on in this story and and things that happen can be implied or explain
sole by sound
– Non-diegetic sound at the start gives the feeling of dark adventure, it sound mysterious
which suggest that the main character is going to find something bad out in this story.
– Diegetic sound is also used. Like at 4:00 you can here alarms going off in the background
suggesting that they are traveling in something high-tech. its very atmospheric
– At 6:55 the main charters receive a call. From the non diegetic sound its implied that e
connection Is not good, this is implied by the glitch sound. Cold suggest that these
people calling are going to be the cause of something bad happening
– There is an artificial intelligence robot character, the actor who plays her voice has had
her voice altered to sound more robotic. This tells the audience that she is clearly not
human. I think this is a good way of identifying characters and making it clear to the
audience.

Ideas
Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
• I think I want my story to be a gruesome version of a fairy tale. I was looking at the original story of
Cinderella by the Grimm brothers, and found that its pretty gruesome. For example when the shoe doesn’t
fit one of the step sisters, the step mother tells them to cut off their toe to make it fit and ands her knife.
At the end of the story 2 birds take out the step sisters eyes leaving them blind after trying to be friends
with Cinderella because she is the queen.
• I think telling a story like this would be perfect for my audio drama since its not too gruesome but scary at
the same time.
• Instead of making my target audience adult I could target towards kids instead. It would be easier to do
with fairy tails
• Hansel and Gretel would also be a good fairy-tale to do. I could easily change some aspects of the story to
make them scarier.
• I could also do a mystery style story in the eyes of the detective. Or I could do it the other way round and
do it from the bad guys perspective, sort of like Jekyll and Hyde. This would also work well since I can use a
lot of suspenseful music.
Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
• Fairy-tale
• For this idea I want to take an existing story and turn it into a scary story
• My target demographic would be children, so I would have to make sure that it isn't boring and isn't too
scary.
• Story's I could make scary:
1. Hansel and Gretel
2. Cinderella
3. Alice in wonderland
4. Little red riding hood
5. Sleeping beauty
• Because all these stories have kids as their main character, the kids will relate to them. I think the 2 best
story’s I could do are sleeping beauty and Hansel and Gretel, there are a lot of aspects of the story that I
can play with and change.
• I think that a narrated story would work better then having actor as it sounds as if someone is reading a
book to you. I would also use a lot of non-diegetic and diegetic sound. By using diegetic sound (creaky
doors or footsteps) would make the audio even more eerie
• I could also do Grimm's version of Cinderella. I think it would be interesting o make the gore part more
detailed and stretched out. This will mean however, that I have to cut down on the rest of the story. I
think this might be ok because Cinderella is a very popular story and everyone knows how is goes. The
parts I would make longer would be the part where the step sister are told by their mother to cut their
feet to fit into the shoe , and when the step sister get their eyes eaten by birds at Cinderella's wedding.
the Grimm's story is too long to be read in five minuets so I might look at other books and mitch and
match different parts, or I could just summarise some parts.
Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
• Horror fiction
• If I do this my target audience will be young adults and people who like horror
stories.
• I think doing a mystery story would be interesting, I think it would have to
have both narration and voice acting In it to work
• Doing a horror fiction like stone cold would be difficult, but I think it would
work. It’s a book by Robert Swindells and has been made into a BBC show, its
about a homeless boy and a murderer.
• Or I could take a scary story and change It a bit. This might work better then
doing a kids story, I will be able to make it a lot more creepier with the
sounds and the content, however I don’t want it to be too gruesome. I want
the audio really make the listeners feel scared.
• The story will need to be short since the audio piece needs to be about 5
minuets
• I want there to be a lot of scary uncomfortable silence in my story since I
think that makes the atmosphere creepier

He Stood Against My Window
I don't know why I looked up, but when I did I saw him there. He stood
against my window. His forehead rested against the glass, and his eyes
were still and light and he smiled a lipstick-red, cartoonish grin. And he
just stood there in the window. My wife was upstairs sleeping, my son
was in his crib and I couldn't move I froze and watched him looking
past me through the glass.
Oh, please no. His smile never moved but he put a hand up and slid it
down the glass, watching me. With matted hair and yellow skin and
face through the window.
I couldn't do anything. I just stayed there, frozen, feet still in the
bushes I was pruning, looking into my home. He stood against my
window.
story
A young boy is sleeping in his bed on a usual night. He hears footsteps
outside his door, and peeks out of his eyes to see what is happening.
His door swings open quietly to reveal a murderer carrying the corpses
of his parents. After silently propping them up on a chair, he writes
something on the wall in the blood of the dead bodies. He then hides
under the child's bed.
The child is scared beyond belief. He can’t read the writing on the wall
and he knows the man is under his bed. Like any child, he pretends
that he slept through the whole thing and hasn’t awoken yet. He lays
still as the bodies, quietly hearing the breathes from under his bed.
An hour passes, and his eyes are adjusting more and more to the
darkness. He tries to make out the words, but it’s a struggle. He gasps
when he finally makes out the sentence.
“I know you’re awake”. He feels something shift underneath his bed.

Audience:
my audience would be from teenagers (9-15). It will be gender neutral and the social status will
be middle class. I decided to appeal to this audience because I think it’s the age where thy are
interested in horror stories and I don't have to censor it as much as I would have with a kids
horror story. To make it appeal to my target audience I'm going to make it very serious tones and
use bold sounds. I think the background music should be kept to a minimum, I want there to be a
lot of silence to reflect how the main character feels.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
the concept for this project is horror . My story is about a child who is sleeping in his bed and is woken up by a
loud sound. A murderer wakes into the room with his dead parents and writes something on the walls, it ends
with the child figuring out what he wrote. The concept of the audio is going to be really dark, eerie and quiet.
In the really quiet part of the audio I want to add in some moving sounds to suggest the murder is moving. I
also want to play around with 3d sounds(playing certain sounds in one ear more than the other, it will help the
listener get a better sense of where things are in the room the child is in (the boor and the chairs)
During research I learned how to create different atmospheres using sound, and how to edit sound in audition
and premier pro. I want to use some distorted and deep sounds. I will also use garage band to make my
background music, I want it to almost sound empty.
Experiments
Foley
• https://youtu.be/IZ2yAVNXOEw
In this experiment we got give a muted clip from Shaun of the dead and had
to go around and find sounds that fitted the clip
We learned how to record and find sounds to fit a clip, and what essential
sound you need to fill a clip like the environmental/atmosphere sound.
Something I struggled with was the volume of all of the sounds, when I first
edited it together all the sounds were on full volume, making it too
overpowering, so I adjusted the volumes to blend in with the clip and make it
sound natural. However I think some of the sounds were a little too quiet like
the music in the shop and the slip noise.
Something I could improve on next time would be to get people to listen to
my audio and tell me if he volume or anything needs adjusting.
Recording
Before recording I watched the clip a couple of times and listed all the
sounds that I needed. This help with productivity and made sure I
wouldn’t miss anything out.
The first thing we recorded was the environmental sound outside since
this was one of the most important sounds. We recorded for a minuet
to make sure that we had enough, and so that is there was anything
we wanted to cut out we could do it with out it sounding weird.
Some of the sound like the slip sound and the gate sound was tricky to
find and took us a while to find. We ended up finding a creaky door
and recorded it creaking a couple of times.
Doing this taught me how to use the audio recorder and the basic
things like how to tell if audio is too loud when you are recording it (if
it goes past the arrow), and how to export audio from recorder to
computer.
Nursery rhyme
• Jack and Jill script
(intro) Jack and Jill

Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after.
Up got jack, and home did he trot,
As fast as he could caper,
He went to bed to mend his head.
With vinegar and brown paper.
Sounds I’ll need:
Footsteps
Outside environment sound
Water
Sound of someone falling
down, or crash sound
effect.(a cartoonish sound)
Sound of inside environment
Sound of bed sheets moving
sound of the brown paper
(could use tissue)
Background music needs to
be light and calm.

For this experiment I had make a nursery rhyme audio piece, I chose Jack and
Jill. I think that the piece I made was pretty basic and could have been better.
Recording went really well, I decided to record my friend Joy reciting the song
3 times. The first time she did the first verse, and then the second verse in the
next recording. And then one recording of her saying the whole thing. This
was to make sure that I had options when it comes to editing. I want to do
something similar to this when I record my audio drama.
Recording
Recording went really well. The only thing I would improve on
would be to get the voice actor to practice the words before
recording since when we were recording some of the lines
weren't read properly which meant we had to keep recording.
We didn't have a problem with volume since we didn’t put the
recorder close to our mouths, we made sure that it was far
enough that it would still pick up her voice. If you hold the
reorder too close to your face the audio becomes really fuzzy
and can get cut off.
Garage Band
• For my background music and some sound effects.
• I got a midi file from the internet and added it to garage band. After
editing in y audio of the nursery rhyme and some sound effects I
realised that the music was way too loud. I tried to adjust the
volume using the volume button on the left of the track, but it kept
resetting. So I had a play with it and found a way to lower the
sound. I did this by changing the note velocity.
• After that I decided to add in some sound effect like the falling
sound and the cheering at the end since I though it sounded a little
too plain for a kids song. I then looked through some of the loops to
see if there was any music that fitted in with what I had and I found
“acoustic picking 4” which fitted well with the music I already had,
so I added it .

followed by footsteps outside his door he peeks out of his eyes to see what is happening. His door swings open
quietly to reveal a bloody murderer, in his arms the corpses of his dismembered parents. He walks in

bodies. Finally he stops, and turns around to face the child and smiles sinisterly. He then hides under the child's
bed.
The child freaks out not knowing what to do(start heavy breathing). Struggling to read the writing on the wall
he knows the man is under his bed. He decided to pretend that he slept through the whole thing and hasn’t
awoken yet. He lays as still as the bodies sitting in front of him, quietly hearing the breathes from under his
bed.
(pause of silence, about 6 seconds, can only hear movement and clock ticking)
An hour passes(ding), and his eyes are adjusting more and more to the darkness. He started to doubt himself,
did all this really just happen or was he going crazy .He tries to make out the words, but it’s a struggle. He gasps

Daily Reflection Day 1
• Today I have finished my background music on garage band
and recorded all my audio for my story.
• I think the recording went really well, I made sure that I had
choice when it came to editing so I recorded each part a
couple of times. I also made sure not to keep recording to the
last minuet and give myself time in case anything goes wrong
or I have to record something again.
Daily Reflection Day 2
• I have edited all my audio in to audition, and have picked out the best audio for
each part.
• I also edited in the background music that I made on garage band to use t the start
and end.
• I have also adjusted the volume on certain parts as they are too loud shown by the
scale at the bottom
• I added two sound effects, footsteps and the creaky door sound, both I recorded
myself.
• I think I want to add some effects on the part where it says “I know your awake” to
make it sound more bold and scarier.
Daily Reflection Day 3
• Today I got all the sound effects I needed to
add into the audio story by going round
college and finding ways to make the noises I
needed.
• I got the sound of fingers on the wall by
scratching different surfaces
Daily Reflection Day 4
• I have added in more sounds to the audio story
and have put some effects on them to fit the
scene and feel I'm trying to create
• There were some noises that I struggled to find,
so I got them from this website. There noises
includes the sound of a clock and a fireplace.
• I have also adjusted the volume on some audio to
make it blend in a little more
Daily Reflection Day 4
Daily Reflection Day 5
Today I finished my audio project. I added in a new track
for layering the same audio with effects on it. This is to
makes some parts sod creepier then the other’s.
Once I was done I exported my audio piece into a mp3.
then I put it into premier pro and added in a creepy
looking photo of a house. I did this because in some audio
dramas that I researched they put in a picture that
reflected the genre of the drama (doctor who had a
picture of the actor and some of the character, it had
bright colors).
Evaluation
Research
At the start of this project I did research on a range of different audio dramas. This
helped me to make my product better by seeing the different ways audio dramas
are told. In the end instead of going for a voice acted script I decided to go with
narration. This was mostly inspired by the legends and lore audio drama I listened
too as it made the audio seems creepier an darker which is what I wanted.
I think my research was good, I pointed out things that I thought worked well and
that I could apply to my product and things I didn't’t like and would try and avoid.
I also used a range of different audio dramas to analyse so that I had a variety of
styles to look at and learn from.
In my research I also did some experimental mini projects like the Foley task
Shaun of the dead) this really help at practicing to sync sound and the amount of
sound you need to fill one scene. I also learned how to make it sound more
natural by lowering the volume and making sure the sounds are balanced.
The lullaby task was also really helpful because it helped me to get used to garage
band and audition. This meant that when it came to editing my audio drama I
already knew how to use the software
Planning
When it came to planning I decided to give myself three days to plan out my
story. At first I wanted to do a creepy version of a fairy-tale for kids, but then
decided to do something different. Once I decided n my story I started to
write the scrip with the sound effects included. I also made a list of all the
sound effects and how I would get them. Overall I think my planning went
pretty well
Something I could improve on is sticking to my original plan. It took up time
having to change my idea from doing a fairy-tale to doing a short spooky
story. I would have been able to spend more time on my story to improve it
which would of meant my final product would have been a better quality.
Time Management
In this task I managed my time pretty well. As soon as I had finished my script
I went into the studio to record it, and on the same day edited the narration
clips together. This meant I had more then enough time to get all the sound
effects that I need and replace some clips in case they didn’t come out right. I
completed my project on time within 5 days.
I think if I had more time I would have defiantly spent it on writing my script
and making it better and longer. I would have also edited it to have both
narration and voice acting.
Technical Qualities
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQzD9mXHKRM&t=255s
I am going to compare my work to the simply scary podcast.
In both audio dramas the story's are told by a narrator. In the simply scary podcast the narrator is acting as
the first person of the story retelling something that happens when he was younger. I think this is really
cleaver because it comes from the main characters perspective instead of someone looking I. it makes the
reader feel scared for the narrator and closer to the story.
In my audio drama the narrator is just someone who Is telling the story of a murder. This makes it less scary
as the narrator hasn't been put in any danger, it separates the narrator from the story. I thin if I made it so
that the narrator was talking fro the perspective of the main character , it would have been more scary as
there would have been more detail on how he feels and what's he's thinking.
Both my audio drama and the simply scary podcast have an into at the beginning. In the simply scary
podcasts introductions, they give a little summary of the story and introduce the narrator. They give a lot
more detail then I did in mine, if I could re record my audio dram I would defiantly talk a little more at the
beginning.
In my audio drama I included sound effects thought the story, it helps put the listeners in the same situation
as the main character. Using sound effects I was able to create the empty dark atmosphere I wanted.
However in the simply scary podcast they use no sound effects when telling the story, personally I think that
this makes the audio drama a little boring
Aural Qualities
My work sounds good, there isn't any audio that’s too loud or cut off and the
narration was told at a good speed. I wanted to make sure that these things were
perfect in my product since when looking at past audio projects theses were the main
issues that I noticed made the audio sound less appealing. I adjusted the volume on
some clips by using key frames. I also added in a fade in/out to some of the audio
such as the opening music by using the square tabs at the sides of the audio piece
I think certain aspects of my product were more creative then others for instance, I
think the sound effects I recorded and the music I created on garage band was
creative, however the story that was told was a bit dull in my opinion, I think I could
have picked out a better story to tell or should have spend more time editing the
story to make it suit an audio drama.
I really wanted my audio drama to sound eerie and empty, so decided to have to
background music while the narration parts, but instead have background noise of a
fireplace that I got rom the internet. I think this fitted In pretty well as it sounded as
though something was moving in the background.
I also used sound effects like echoes and pitch changers to make some audio sound
scarier. I did this both with some of the sound effects and the narration to emphasize
some words and to surprise the listeners.
Audience Appeal
My target audience for this product was 9 to 15 year olds. I made sure my
product was suitable for this age range by not putting too much detail in the
script, for example I didn’t put in gory details like how the child dies at the end,
instead I just imply it with sound.
I think by adding in sound effects it made the product sound more interesting
and helps my target audience to imagine what's happening.
The main character in my story is a young boy around the age of 10 years olds,
this helps my story appeal/relate to my target audience since they are around
the same age. I think this is important because it mean that the audience can
feel and imagine how the main character is feeling.
My audio drama is around 4 minutes which I think is a good amount of time, if it
was any longer I think my target audience would have gotten bored.

Having a narrator would have ruin the feel of the drama since he listener feel like they are really there and are intrigued to see what happens, if a narrator started describing everything it would take them out of that space. – They used sound effects to make it sound as if they are talking over the phone, this helps the listener make more sense of what's going on. They also included sounds of number being dialled on a phone to indicate to the listener that the main character is making a call. – When the character are indoors there is little background music, when they are outside they add the sound of tress rustling etc. – When they start digging up the body they add sound effects to match it, helps the ready imagine what it would visually looked like. – Diegetic sound like opening doors – Duration: 29:40

There is no narrator, which works well in this – Lots of diegetic sound to help the listeners to imagine what Alice's surroundings are like. For example when she is outside you can hear birds whistling, when she is falling down the hole the surrounding sounds more hollow an you can hear the winds going past her. – There is no Non-diegetic sound, except for the in the beginning introducing the play. Having no diegetic sound makes the listeners feel like they are really in the story. – Duration: 1:57:09

Existing Products Research •The way out • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hveGSBHP7wA – this is a sci-fi audio drama. The story is that there is a ship stuck in space in need of repairs, the crew in that ship find a port to repair it, however they aren't to be trusted. – In this audio drama there is both a narrator and voice actors. I think this is clever since there is a lot going on in this story and and things that happen can be implied or explain sole by sound – Non-diegetic sound at the start gives the feeling of dark adventure, it sound mysterious which suggest that the main character is going to find something bad out in this story. – Diegetic sound is also used. Like at 4:00 you can here alarms going off in the background suggesting that they are traveling in something high-tech. its very atmospheric – At 6:55 the main charters receive a call. From the non diegetic sound its implied that e connection Is not good, this is implied by the glitch sound. Cold suggest that these people calling are going to be the cause of something bad happening – There is an artificial intelligence robot character, the actor who plays her voice has had her voice altered to sound more robotic. This tells the audience that she is clearly not human. I think this is a good way of identifying characters and making it clear to the audience. – Duration: 21:47

Idea Generation/Initial Reaction •I think I want my story to be a gruesome version of a fairy tale. I was looking at the original story of Cinderella by the Grimm brothers, and found that its pretty gruesome. For example when the shoe doesn’t fit one of the step sisters, the step mother tells them to cut off their toe to make it fit and ands her knife. At the end of the story 2 birds take out the step sisters eyes leaving them blind after trying to be friends with Cinderella because she is the queen. • I think telling a story like this would be perfect for my audio drama since its not too gruesome but scary at the same time. • Instead of making my target audience adult I could target towards kids instead. It would be easier to do with fairy tails • Hansel and Gretel would also be a good fairy-tale to do. I could easily change some aspects of the story to make them scarier. • I could also do a mystery style story in the eyes of the detective. Or I could do it the other way round and do it from the bad guys perspective, sort of like Jekyll and Hyde. This would also work well since I can use a lot of suspenseful music.
  • 10.
Idea Generation/Initial Reaction •Fairy-tale • For this idea I want to take an existing story and turn it into a scary story • My target demographic would be children, so I would have to make sure that it isn't boring and isn't too scary. • Story's I could make scary: 1. Hansel and Gretel 2. Cinderella 3. Alice in wonderland 4. Little red riding hood 5. Sleeping beauty • Because all these stories have kids as their main character, the kids will relate to them. I think the 2 best story’s I could do are sleeping beauty and Hansel and Gretel, there are a lot of aspects of the story that I can play with and change. • I think that a narrated story would work better then having actor as it sounds as if someone is reading a book to you. I would also use a lot of non-diegetic and diegetic sound. By using diegetic sound (creaky doors or footsteps) would make the audio even more eerie • I could also do Grimm's version of Cinderella. I think it would be interesting o make the gore part more detailed and stretched out. This will mean however, that I have to cut down on the rest of the story. I think this might be ok because Cinderella is a very popular story and everyone knows how is goes. The parts I would make longer would be the part where the step sister are told by their mother to cut their feet to fit into the shoe , and when the step sister get their eyes eaten by birds at Cinderella's wedding. the Grimm's story is too long to be read in five minuets so I might look at other books and mitch and match different parts, or I could just summarise some parts.

Idea Generation/Initial Reaction •Horror fiction • If I do this my target audience will be young adults and people who like horror stories. • I think doing a mystery story would be interesting, I think it would have to have both narration and voice acting In it to work • Doing a horror fiction like stone cold would be difficult, but I think it would work. It’s a book by Robert Swindells and has been made into a BBC show, its about a homeless boy and a murderer. • Or I could take a scary story and change It a bit. This might work better then doing a kids story, I will be able to make it a lot more creepier with the sounds and the content, however I don’t want it to be too gruesome. I want the audio really make the listeners feel scared. • The story will need to be short since the audio piece needs to be about 5 minuets • I want there to be a lot of scary uncomfortable silence in my story since I think that makes the atmosphere creepier

story He Stood AgainstMy Window I don't know why I looked up, but when I did I saw him there. He stood against my window. His forehead rested against the glass, and his eyes were still and light and he smiled a lipstick-red, cartoonish grin. And he just stood there in the window. My wife was upstairs sleeping, my son was in his crib and I couldn't move I froze and watched him looking past me through the glass. Oh, please no. His smile never moved but he put a hand up and slid it down the glass, watching me. With matted hair and yellow skin and face through the window. I couldn't do anything. I just stayed there, frozen, feet still in the bushes I was pruning, looking into my home. He stood against my window.

Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section. Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the gender? Etc.) Proposal Working Title: awake Audience: my audiencewould be from teenagers (9-15). It will be gender neutral and the social status will be middle class. I decided to appeal to this audience because I think it’s the age where thy are interested in horror stories and I don't have to censor it as much as I would have with a kids horror story. To make it appeal to my target audience I'm going to make it very serious tones and use bold sounds. I think the background music should be kept to a minimum, I want there to be a lot of silence to reflect how the main character feels. Project Concept (approx. 200 words) the concept for this project is horror . My story is about a child who is sleeping in his bed and is woken up by a loud sound. A murderer wakes into the room with his dead parents and writes something on the walls, it ends with the child figuring out what he wrote. The concept of the audio is going to be really dark, eerie and quiet. In the really quiet part of the audio I want to add in some moving sounds to suggest the murder is moving. I also want to play around with 3d sounds(playing certain sounds in one ear more than the other, it will help the listener get a better sense of where things are in the room the child is in (the boor and the chairs) During research I learned how to create different atmospheres using sound, and how to edit sound in audition and premier pro. I want to use some distorted and deep sounds. I will also use garage band to make my background music, I want it to almost sound empty.

Foley • https://youtu.be/IZ2yAVNXOEw In thisexperiment we got give a muted clip from Shaun of the dead and had to go around and find sounds that fitted the clip We learned how to record and find sounds to fit a clip, and what essential sound you need to fill a clip like the environmental/atmosphere sound. Something I struggled with was the volume of all of the sounds, when I first edited it together all the sounds were on full volume, making it too overpowering, so I adjusted the volumes to blend in with the clip and make it sound natural. However I think some of the sounds were a little too quiet like the music in the shop and the slip noise. Something I could improve on next time would be to get people to listen to my audio and tell me if he volume or anything needs adjusting.

Recording Before recording Iwatched the clip a couple of times and listed all the sounds that I needed. This help with productivity and made sure I wouldn’t miss anything out. The first thing we recorded was the environmental sound outside since this was one of the most important sounds. We recorded for a minuet to make sure that we had enough, and so that is there was anything we wanted to cut out we could do it with out it sounding weird. Some of the sound like the slip sound and the gate sound was tricky to find and took us a while to find. We ended up finding a creaky door and recorded it creaking a couple of times. Doing this taught me how to use the audio recorder and the basic things like how to tell if audio is too loud when you are recording it (if it goes past the arrow), and how to export audio from recorder to computer.

Nursery rhyme • Jackand Jill script (intro) Jack and Jill (Lyrics) Jack and Jill went up the hill To fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown, And Jill came tumbling after. Up got jack, and home did he trot, As fast as he could caper, He went to bed to mend his head. With vinegar and brown paper. Sounds I’ll need: Footsteps Outside environment sound Water Sound of someone falling down, or crash sound effect.(a cartoonish sound) Sound of inside environment Sound of bed sheets moving sound of the brown paper (could use tissue) Background music needs to be light and calm.

Foley • https://youtu.be/tZfyG6f5I-0 For thisexperiment I had make a nursery rhyme audio piece, I chose Jack and Jill. I think that the piece I made was pretty basic and could have been better. Recording went really well, I decided to record my friend Joy reciting the song 3 times. The first time she did the first verse, and then the second verse in the next recording. And then one recording of her saying the whole thing. This was to make sure that I had options when it comes to editing. I want to do something similar to this when I record my audio drama.
  • 21.
Recording Recording went reallywell. The only thing I would improve on would be to get the voice actor to practice the words before recording since when we were recording some of the lines weren't read properly which meant we had to keep recording. We didn't have a problem with volume since we didn’t put the recorder close to our mouths, we made sure that it was far enough that it would still pick up her voice. If you hold the reorder too close to your face the audio becomes really fuzzy and can get cut off.

Garage Band • Formy background music and some sound effects. • I got a midi file from the internet and added it to garage band. After editing in y audio of the nursery rhyme and some sound effects I realised that the music was way too loud. I tried to adjust the volume using the volume button on the left of the track, but it kept resetting. So I had a play with it and found a way to lower the sound. I did this by changing the note velocity. • After that I decided to add in some sound effect like the falling sound and the cheering at the end since I though it sounded a little too plain for a kids song. I then looked through some of the loops to see if there was any music that fitted in with what I had and I found “acoustic picking 4” which fitted well with the music I already had, so I added it .

Script Final (background musicdark and bold) (distorted low pitch match glitch effect on screen) welcome to the first episode of the Jekyll and Hyde podcast. Thank you joining us today. Today we will be reading “awake” narrated by Joy Buck and produced by Aasiyah Chopdat (background music fades) (fireplace/crackling fire sound fades In, blends into background) Its 10pm(ding clock sound), a young boy is sleeping in his bed on a usual night. He hears two loud bangs followed by footsteps outside his door he peeks out of his eyes to see what is happening. His door swings open quietly to reveal a bloody murderer, in his arms the corpses of his dismembered parents. He walks in maliciously, silently propping them up on a chair, he writes something on the wall in the blood of the dead bodies. Finally he stops, and turns around to face the child and smiles sinisterly. He then hides under the child's bed. The child freaks out not knowing what to do(start heavy breathing). Struggling to read the writing on the wall he knows the man is under his bed. He decided to pretend that he slept through the whole thing and hasn’t awoken yet. He lays as still as the bodies sitting in front of him, quietly hearing the breathes from under his bed. (pause of silence, about 6 seconds, can only hear movement and clock ticking) An hour passes(ding), and his eyes are adjusting more and more to the darkness. He started to doubt himself, did all this really just happen or was he going crazy .He tries to make out the words, but it’s a struggle. He gasps when he finally makes out the sentence.(build up sound) “I know you’re awake”.(said slowly)(sudden silence) We hope you enjoyed you time with us until next time (background music fades in)

Daily Reflection Day1 • Today I have finished my background music on garage band and recorded all my audio for my story. • I think the recording went really well, I made sure that I had choice when it came to editing so I recorded each part a couple of times. I also made sure not to keep recording to the last minuet and give myself time in case anything goes wrong or I have to record something again.
  • 32.
Daily Reflection Day2 • I have edited all my audio in to audition, and have picked out the best audio for each part. • I also edited in the background music that I made on garage band to use t the start and end. • I have also adjusted the volume on certain parts as they are too loud shown by the scale at the bottom • I added two sound effects, footsteps and the creaky door sound, both I recorded myself. • I think I want to add some effects on the part where it says “I know your awake” to make it sound more bold and scarier.
  • 33.
Daily Reflection Day3 • Today I got all the sound effects I needed to add into the audio story by going round college and finding ways to make the noises I needed. • I got the sound of fingers on the wall by scratching different surfaces
  • 34.
Daily Reflection Day4 • I have added in more sounds to the audio story and have put some effects on them to fit the scene and feel I'm trying to create • There were some noises that I struggled to find, so I got them from this website. There noises includes the sound of a clock and a fireplace. • https://www.soundarchive.online • I have also adjusted the volume on some audio to make it blend in a little more

Daily Reflection Day5 Today I finished my audio project. I added in a new track for layering the same audio with effects on it. This is to makes some parts sod creepier then the other’s. Once I was done I exported my audio piece into a mp3. then I put it into premier pro and added in a creepy looking photo of a house. I did this because in some audio dramas that I researched they put in a picture that reflected the genre of the drama (doctor who had a picture of the actor and some of the character, it had bright colors).

Research At the startof this project I did research on a range of different audio dramas. This helped me to make my product better by seeing the different ways audio dramas are told. In the end instead of going for a voice acted script I decided to go with narration. This was mostly inspired by the legends and lore audio drama I listened too as it made the audio seems creepier an darker which is what I wanted. I think my research was good, I pointed out things that I thought worked well and that I could apply to my product and things I didn't’t like and would try and avoid. I also used a range of different audio dramas to analyse so that I had a variety of styles to look at and learn from. In my research I also did some experimental mini projects like the Foley task Shaun of the dead) this really help at practicing to sync sound and the amount of sound you need to fill one scene. I also learned how to make it sound more natural by lowering the volume and making sure the sounds are balanced. The lullaby task was also really helpful because it helped me to get used to garage band and audition. This meant that when it came to editing my audio drama I already knew how to use the software

Planning When it cameto planning I decided to give myself three days to plan out my story. At first I wanted to do a creepy version of a fairy-tale for kids, but then decided to do something different. Once I decided n my story I started to write the scrip with the sound effects included. I also made a list of all the sound effects and how I would get them. Overall I think my planning went pretty well Something I could improve on is sticking to my original plan. It took up time having to change my idea from doing a fairy-tale to doing a short spooky story. I would have been able to spend more time on my story to improve it which would of meant my final product would have been a better quality.
  • 40.
Time Management In thistask I managed my time pretty well. As soon as I had finished my script I went into the studio to record it, and on the same day edited the narration clips together. This meant I had more then enough time to get all the sound effects that I need and replace some clips in case they didn’t come out right. I completed my project on time within 5 days. I think if I had more time I would have defiantly spent it on writing my script and making it better and longer. I would have also edited it to have both narration and voice acting.

Technical Qualities https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQzD9mXHKRM&t=255s I amgoing to compare my work to the simply scary podcast. In both audio dramas the story's are told by a narrator. In the simply scary podcast the narrator is acting as the first person of the story retelling something that happens when he was younger. I think this is really cleaver because it comes from the main characters perspective instead of someone looking I. it makes the reader feel scared for the narrator and closer to the story. In my audio drama the narrator is just someone who Is telling the story of a murder. This makes it less scary as the narrator hasn't been put in any danger, it separates the narrator from the story. I thin if I made it so that the narrator was talking fro the perspective of the main character , it would have been more scary as there would have been more detail on how he feels and what's he's thinking. Both my audio drama and the simply scary podcast have an into at the beginning. In the simply scary podcasts introductions, they give a little summary of the story and introduce the narrator. They give a lot more detail then I did in mine, if I could re record my audio dram I would defiantly talk a little more at the beginning. In my audio drama I included sound effects thought the story, it helps put the listeners in the same situation as the main character. Using sound effects I was able to create the empty dark atmosphere I wanted. However in the simply scary podcast they use no sound effects when telling the story, personally I think that this makes the audio drama a little boring
  • 42.
Aural Qualities My worksounds good, there isn't any audio that’s too loud or cut off and the narration was told at a good speed. I wanted to make sure that these things were perfect in my product since when looking at past audio projects theses were the main issues that I noticed made the audio sound less appealing. I adjusted the volume on some clips by using key frames. I also added in a fade in/out to some of the audio such as the opening music by using the square tabs at the sides of the audio piece I think certain aspects of my product were more creative then others for instance, I think the sound effects I recorded and the music I created on garage band was creative, however the story that was told was a bit dull in my opinion, I think I could have picked out a better story to tell or should have spend more time editing the story to make it suit an audio drama. I really wanted my audio drama to sound eerie and empty, so decided to have to background music while the narration parts, but instead have background noise of a fireplace that I got rom the internet. I think this fitted In pretty well as it sounded as though something was moving in the background. I also used sound effects like echoes and pitch changers to make some audio sound scarier. I did this both with some of the sound effects and the narration to emphasize some words and to surprise the listeners.
  • 43.
Audience Appeal My targetaudience for this product was 9 to 15 year olds. I made sure my product was suitable for this age range by not putting too much detail in the script, for example I didn’t put in gory details like how the child dies at the end, instead I just imply it with sound. I think by adding in sound effects it made the product sound more interesting and helps my target audience to imagine what's happening. The main character in my story is a young boy around the age of 10 years olds, this helps my story appeal/relate to my target audience since they are around the same age. I think this is important because it mean that the audience can feel and imagine how the main character is feeling. My audio drama is around 4 minutes which I think is a good amount of time, if it was any longer I think my target audience would have gotten bored.
