Question 4
1. Who would be the audience for your media
product and why?
2. We decided to choose young adults between
the age of 16-21 as our target audience.
We came to this conclusion by thinking about
what people today were looking for in a film
today and what viewers around this age range
enjoyed watching.
What we also found was that some viewers
around this age group also enjoyed this genre
of film as it could sometimes relate to them
and what they may have been through.
3. Some psychological thrillers, especially those
based around teenagers and their lives are
more attractive to viewers of our age choice
as it is less dramatised and Hollywood
glamorised.
This information we found was rather useful
as it shows that viewers like to watch things
more realistic than dramatic as it makes
things more enjoyable and easier to relate to.
4. Also, audiences enjoy seeing a vulnerable female
as the protagonist. A great example of this is the
successful blockbuster “Black Swan”.
This followed many stereotypical conventions of
a psychological thriller and was majorly praised.
However, it was rather dramatised and didn’t
necessarily portray things on a realistic level, but
then again, not all films are realistic, because if
that was the case, it may start to get boring and
audiences would be able to assume what will
happen.
5. We tried not to glamorise our film too much
and tried to keep it as simple as possible, but
rather what would be expected of, of
someone who had lost someone close to
them.
Usually when a film is good, a viewer will go
and tell their friends about it. This word of
mouth is usually done between young people
because of new media products. They can tell
people about films via text, and SNS.
6. This is another reason why we decided to
choose young people as our audience, as it
not only attracts them but they can also give
friends who may have a similar preference
some recommendation of this.
