Cissus quadrangularis is a plant used in Ayurvedic medicine to heal bone fractures. It has many Sanskrit names that refer to its bone healing properties. It is known as "asthisamharaka" which means "that which saves the bones from destruction." The plant grows throughout India and Sri Lanka. Various parts of the plant, including the stem, root, and shoots, are used medicinally to treat bone fractures, joint pain, piles, asthma, and more. Modern research has identified calcium oxalate, carotene, and ascorbic acid as some of its chemical constituents.
