MASĪ KALPANA
• In masi kalpana,the process of agni samskarana is
carried out on the selected medicinal drugs to the extent
of getting them in carbonised form
• These preparations are meant majnly for external use
• The drugs selected for masī kalpana can be plant
,animal,or mineral origin
• The first classical reference for masī kalpana are ‘
hastidanta masī’ and 'krishnasarpa masī’ found in
sushruta samhita chikitsa sthana
Method of preparation
• Genarally two methods are used
1. Closed method
2. Open method
Closed method
• The selected drug should be finely powdered amd placed in a sharava
• Sandhi bandhana is done with another sharava
• After it dries it is subjected to puta.
• Puta is chosen as per the hardness of the drug
• After self cool the product is collected and triturated to homegenous
mixture using a khalva yantra and is preserved
• Eg : hasti danta masi
Open method
• The selected drug is finely powdered
• They are roasted in an open pan with frequent stirring until it
turns to black powder
• This black powder is again taken in khalva yantra and
triturated to obtain fine homogenous powder.
• Eg : triphala masi
Masi kalpana has infinite shelf life but it has to be stored in
airtight container preventing its exposure to the atmospheric
conditions

Triphala masi
• Triphala masi is externally applied in case of upadamshaja vrana
along with honey
• It is also used for danta dhavana along with common Salt
Hasti danta masi
• It is used in case of khalitya,phalitya,indralupta and romakshata
Krishna sarpa masi
• Varaha puta is given
• This bhasma is added with same quantity of bhibitaka taila Or
bakuchi taila and the paste is applied Over affected parts in all
types of switra roga and kushta roga
