Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in 21st
Century Literature
I. Objective
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Explain the text in terms of literary elements, genres, and tradition
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Invictus (Lyrical poem)
Reference: www.study.com
Materials: PowerPoint Presentation and Visual Aids
III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
A student will be requested to lead the prayer.
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
The students will simply look at their seatmates to check if there are absentees.
5. Setting of Classroom Standards
The teacher will post pictures of celebrities at the board and the students will relate it to
their classroom standards.

6. Passing of Assignment
The students will pass their assignment.
7. Review
1. What does Rose symbolizes in the story “A Rose for Emily”
2. Who are the characters in the story?
B. Motivation
The teacher will post pictures and the students will guess what it is all about.
C. Activity
The student will play the game “COME AND FIND ME”. They will going to find those colored
paper with questions that being posted anywhere inside the classroom. The student who can find it
will be given extra points and another points if she/he can it. And if she/he can’t, the other students
will be given a chance to answer it.
D. Analysis
1. Have you experienced difficulties in life?
2. How did you handle failures / problem in life?
E. Abstraction
The teacher will play the video entitled “INVICTUS by William Henly”
1. How was the video? Did you feel something upon watching it?
2. What does “invictus” mean?
3. What figures of speech are being used in the poem?
4. What is the theme of the poem?
5. What does stanza 1,2, 3 and 4 all about?
6. What is the meaning of Black as the Pit from pole to pole?
7. What does “it matters not how strait the gate” mean?
8. What does I am the master of my fate and captain of my soul mean?
9. Why did William Henley write Invictus?
F. Application
The students will be grouped into five. Then choose among the four stanzas and make a
creative presentation about their understanding of the poem? They will be given 5 minutes to do it.

IV. Evaluation
Directions: ½ sheet of paper, Explain the text/poem by answering these ff. questions
1. Do you believe that you are the master of your fate and the captain of your soul?
2. Do your genes, environment, and other factors place your fate outside of your soul?
V. Assignment
Direction: ½ sheet of paper, give one example European Literature.

  • 1. Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in 21st Century Literature I. Objective At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to: a. Explain the text in terms of literary elements, genres, and tradition II. Subject Matter Topic: Invictus (Lyrical poem) Reference: www.study.com Materials: PowerPoint Presentation and Visual Aids III. Procedure A. Preliminary Activities 1. Prayer A student will be requested to lead the prayer. 2. Greetings 3. Checking of Attendance The students will simply look at their seatmates to check if there are absentees. 5. Setting of Classroom Standards The teacher will post pictures of celebrities at the board and the students will relate it to their classroom standards. 1. 2. 3. 4. 6. Passing of Assignment The students will pass their assignment. 7. Review 1. What does Rose symbolizes in the story “A Rose for Emily” 2. Who are the characters in the story? B. Motivation The teacher will post pictures and the students will guess what it is all about. C. Activity The student will play the game “COME AND FIND ME”. They will going to find those colored paper with questions that being posted anywhere inside the classroom. The student who can find it will be given extra points and another points if she/he can it. And if she/he can’t, the other students will be given a chance to answer it.

Abstraction The teacher will play the video entitled “INVICTUS by William Henly” 1. How was the video? Did you feel something upon watching it? 2. What does “invictus” mean? 3. What figures of speech are being used in the poem? 4. What is the theme of the poem? 5. What does stanza 1,2, 3 and 4 all about? 6. What is the meaning of Black as the Pit from pole to pole? 7. What does “it matters not how strait the gate” mean? 8. What does I am the master of my fate and captain of my soul mean? 9. Why did William Henley write Invictus? F. Application The students will be grouped into five. Then choose among the four stanzas and make a creative presentation about their understanding of the poem? They will be given 5 minutes to do it. Criteria Content -------------------------------5 points Organization ----------------------5 points Relevance ---------------------------5 points IV. Evaluation Directions: ½ sheet of paper, Explain the text/poem by answering these ff. questions 1. Do you believe that you are the master of your fate and the captain of your soul? 2. Do your genes, environment, and other factors place your fate outside of your soul? V. Assignment Direction: ½ sheet of paper, give one example European Literature.
