Assertive:
Assertiveness is a form of communication in which
needs or wishes are stated clearly with respect for
oneself and the other person in the interaction.
Aggressive:
Aggressive means standing up for yourself in ways that
violate the rights of others.
 Aggressive behavior is typically punishing, hostile,
blaming, and demanding.
Involve threats, name-calling, and even actual physical
contact.
 It can also involve sarcasm, catty comments, gossip
and "slips of the tongue."
Difference of Assertive and Aggressive
ASSERTIVE
• Speaks openly
• Values self equal to others
• Tries to hurt no one (including self)
• Usually reaches goals without alienating others
• I'm okay, you're okay
• Cool , talks gently
• Good eye contact
AGGRESSION
• Interrupts and 'talks over' others
• Values self more than others
• Hurts others to avoid being hurt
• Reaches goals but hurts others in the process
• I'm okay, you're not
• Intimidating
• Shouts
• Glares, stares
