Ancient Egyptian art was produced between 5000 BC to 300 AD in lower Nile Valley. It was characterized by keen observation of nature, conformity to rules of representation, and highly religious subjects like gods, pharaohs and nature. Art featured clear lines and simple shapes with flat colors. Cartouches were oval frames containing hieroglyphs representing the sounds of people's names.
