This document provides details for planning the contents page of a magazine. It discusses choosing a calming color scheme of neutral pastels with black and white. A decorative title font is selected to draw attention, in peachy color. Three decorative but readable fonts are chosen for variety. The main image shows two band members of Betty Chicago to appeal to readers. Sample articles and sections are listed like music news, reviews, interviews, and features on upcoming artists. Photographs will have page numbers and be edited in Photoshop for professional look. The tone will be informal like a friend to match the young target audience.

2. Colours I chose this colour scheme because I think the neutral colours are quite calming and it’s simple, therefore it won’t make my contents page look overwhelming. Also, it’s quite a girly colour scheme, as these are soft, pastel colours. Black and white go very well together in creating a simple look, but by adding a splash of peach it will pick it up and make it stand out more.
4. Title I chose this font for the contents page title because it looks interesting and I think that the line running along the top will be eye catching, as it’s quite unusual. I have chosen this peachy colour because I want the title to stand out against the black and white. I chose to name the title ‘contents’, as it clearly shows what the page is about, and it follows codes and conventions of a magazine.
6. Text Text Text Text I chose these fonts because they are slightly more decorative than standard, plain fonts, and therefore will look more interesting. I chose to include 3 different font types because magazines usually include 3 – 4 different types of font, which are used for different parts of text (title, text anchorage, page listings etc), and therefore I will be following conventions if I include this number of fonts.
7. Main Image I chose to use this image because it shows the closeness of the two band members of ‘Betty Chicago’, making them more appealing to the audience. Also, the band member on the right is looking straight ahead, giving the impression that she is directly addressing the audience.
11. Other Images These are photos I’ve taken of bands and one of my friends. This is a photo I took of a friend posing as a music artist. It was taken on a sunny day in order to make it brighter so it would stand out. He is wearing glasses in order to make him appear more like a music artist, as this is a stereotypical idea of them. This is a photo I took of a local band posing. I took this photo like this because it follows the conventions by including a photo that looks like it’s from a professional photo shoot. Also, all band members a re looking straight at the camera, if they’re directly addressing the audience. This is a photo I took of a local band performing at a live gig. I took this photo because it follows the conventions, as a lot of contents pages include photos taken from live gigs, implying to the audience that the article will include a report on the live gig shown in the photo.
12. Photoshopping I photoshopped my photos in order to enhance the colours and lighting, making them look more professional .

15. Image features This is a brief idea of what the featured images will look like. They will have the page number at the bottom corner so the article will be easier for the reader to find. 15
16. Mode of Address The mode of address will be informal, especially in the editorial, as this will appeal more to the young audience I am targeting. The language will be chatty with slang, whilst directly addressing the reader, making them feel like a friend. For example ‘we wave goodbye to the legendary White Stripes as they announce their split’.
