Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

Simpson’s family- computer- a video - aworksheet per student- glue- setof cards
with pictures to play memory game on the board.
Pedagogical use of ICT in class: Students will watch a video that I have edited
with the information of “The Simpson’s Family” from my computer.
Seating arrangements: Students sit in pairs.
Cooperative work: Children will interact with the teacher and their classmates
by playing a memory game on the board. For better organization, I will call two
players to come to the front of the board.
Possible problems/difficulties and possible solutions in the class: Children are
used to listening to their teacher speaking in Spanish and they only listen to
English for instructions. I will speak English during the whole class so if they do
not understand, I will use body gestures, mime, and modeling to aid
comprehension.
Assessment: what will be assessed and how. I will check if children comprehend
and identify family members by encouraging them to participate and answer
questions such as Is He/ She? Yes, she is. No, she isn’t / Yes, he is. No, he isn’t
ROUTINE: 10’
I will enter the classroomand I will greet children by saying “Hello children!” “How are
today?” “Are you fine?” Children will probably say “I’m fine, thank you”.
I will explain that I will be their teacher for some lessons and I will write my name on
the board. “My name is Roxana”
Then, I will give children the following card and they will have to complete the
question “What is your name?” I will say that they have to write their names. Then I
will say “Please, now put your cards on your desk” (I will show them the action).
“Now, I can read your names and remember them”. “Thank you children”
4. Transition: “Ok...Very good children”. “Now, look…” “Let’s meet with some friends…”
WARM UP: 10’
I will show children this poster and I will stick it on the board.
5. I will say “Look at this poster now” and I will ask “Do you know them?” “Do you watch
this cartoon on TV”? “Who are they?” Students surely will say that they are the
Simpsons family.
Transition: “Ok, Well done children.” “Now, let’s know more about this famous family.”
PRESENTATION: 10’
I will say children that they will watch a video from my computer and they will have to
pay attention to the titles. If it is necessary I will play the video for a second time.
6. TPD2018-THE SIMPSONS FAMILY- ARROYO.mp4
Then, I will say that I will read the titles. I will encourage children to repeat each family
member name and they will listen to its pronunciation. I will point to each character
and I will ask “Ok. Who is she?” “She is Marge.” “She is the mother. “ “Yes?” “Repeat.”
“She is the mother!” and “ Who is he?” (Pointing at Homer) “He is Homer.” “He is the
father.” “Repeat.” “ He is the father.” “and.. what about this character?” “Who is he?”
(pointing at Bart) “He is Bart” “He is the brother.” “Repeat” “He is the brother.” “Look
at her.” “Who is she?” “She is Lisa” “She is the sister.” “Repeat” “She is the sister.”
“And look at this baby” “Who is she?” “She is Maggie.” “She is the baby sister.”
I will encourage children to repeat all together each family member name again. I will
point to each picture by saying “She is the mother” “He is the father” “He is the
brother” “She is the sister” “She is the baby sister”.
Transition: “Very good!” “Well done children!” “Let’s make a family tree.”
DEVELOPMENT: 20’
Activity N°1: 10’
I will give a worksheet to each child in which they have to cut out each image and
paste them in the correct place. Once they have the worksheet, I will explain the
activity. “Let’s read the title now” “Can you see the Simpsons family?” “You have to cut
out each of them (pointing at one by one) and paste them in the correct place.” “Then,
you have to complete the sentences.” I will say that they can consult their partner if
they do not remember. “Ok.” “You can start”
7. Paste the family members in the following family tree.
Complete these sentences. Write the name of each member family and the age.
1- Marge is the _______________. She is _________________ years old.
2- Homer is the _______________. He is __________________ years old.
8. 3- Bart is the ________________. He is ___________________ years old.
4- Lisa is the _________________. She is _________________ years old.
5- Maggie is the ______________. She is _______________ years old.
I will go through children’s desks in order to monitor what they are doing. I will help
them if it is necessary.
After that, I will say “Now, we can check.” “Let’s begin with Marge.” I will copy the
sentence on the board. I will design one child to read it aloud. “Marge is the … ” The
child will probably say “mother” “Yes!” “She is the MOTHER.” “Great”. “Now, how old
is she?” “She is 30 years old.” I will do the same action for the rest of the family
member. Then, we will read all the sentences together.
Transition: “Ok.” “Excellent work” “Let’s play now!”
Activity N°2: 10’
I will stick a poster on the board. I will show five picture cards with the Simpsons
Family to children. Then, I will show five cards with the family member names and I
will ask who they are. We will repeat each family member´s name. After this, I will
show how to play the game and then I will call two players (one boy and one girl) to
participate in front of the board. One child will take out a card and he/she will stick the
card on the poster. The child will take it in turns to turn over two cards to try and find a
picture pair. If the child is successful, they will say the name of the family member and
take the card and turn over two more cards. If the child is not successful, the cards will
be turned face down again and the next child will have a turn. I will encourage them to
say family member name aloud. “Who is he?” “Who is she?” Children will say for
example “She is Lisa, the sister “The child with the most cards at the end will be the
winner.
9.

weather like today?” It’s sunny. Children will copy the date and the weather on the
