Essay about Motivation for Work
Work is a positive thing for many people. To some people, it may be described as a place to escape
from the kids, or even a time consumption thing for a single or retired person, but most importantly it
is what we do in order to provide for our families and ourselves. Work is something that we all will
experience at one time or another during our lives. There are several reasons why a person goes to
work. These reasons can be better explained as work motivation . Work motivation can be defined as
the inner forces that make us work and want to work harder to achieve personal or organizational
goals (George Jones, 2005). There are two different types of motivation; intrinsic and extrinsic. When
personal goals motivate us, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, things like total accomplishment motivate Aberdeen s employees; they thrive on
bettering the work environment, learning new skills and getting to participate in group leadership.
You could say that the main difference between the Aberdeen and Green River plants have mostly to
do with which type of motivational reasoning each have. Aberdeen employees are motivated for
intrinsic reasons. They continue to work hard for the satisfaction of the entire company doing well, as
Green River employees do things for extrinsic reasons. They are only concerned with doing only what
it takes to make more money.
There are several different ways an employer can motivate their employee s: job design goals,
performance appraisal, pay, and career development. Job design is the process of envisioning and
defining specific work systems for a particular job, and deciding what techniques, procedures, and
equipment that it will take to do the job (George Jones, 2005). Job design plays an important role in
enhancing motivational levels in the workplace. It seems that if you can break jobs down individually
and make them simpler to understand do, then people are more apt to do them effectively. With this in
mind, I would like to recommend that Green River s management break their jobs down into steps to
help simplify and make for better production. Developing goals and teams, as well as teaching them to

The Role Of Loyalty In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
It is in the human condition to distinguish ourselves from those around us, to attempt to rise above the
turbulent sea of people that encompasses the Earth. Thousands of years ago, this meant being stronger,
faster, or smarter than the competition. Today, these attributes are still taken into account, but a few
more have been added to the spectrum. Fame, wealth, and power are all viewed today to be
distinguishing characteristics, so, naturally, humans have adapted to seek glory. However, mankind s
desperation for glory often results in the overstepping of boundaries, whether scientific, moral, or
societal, ultimately leading to the downfall of the seeker. Mary Shelley demonstrates this concept in
her Gothic novel Frankenstein. She utilizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Victor, Walton, and the Creature s quests were unsuccessful due to their overstepping of scientific,
social, and moral bounds. In Victor s case, his downfall was the result of his haste to create a sentient
being for the glory that would result. This problem exists not only in Frankenstein, but in the modern
world as well. Today, with the world s newly advanced technology, innovators around the globe are
inquiring as to how to shatter the limits of science by creating a new series sentient life. While the
altering of DNA to create genetically modified humans is possible, albeit extremely expensive, the
process is highly scrutinized as to whether it is morally valid and within the realm of what scientists
are allowed to tinker with. Those against human modification say that, like Frankenstein and his
creature, the possibility for the process to go south is too great and shouldn t be risked. Those in favor
of the alteration respond with promises of bettering society through a new, disease resistant,
genetically superior species. They say that the creation of these superhumans would result in a higher
standard of living, and, of course, glory. Cautioned to us by Mary Shelley almost 200 years ago and
still true today, overstepping bounds in the pursuit of glory is a dangerous act and will result in failure.
After all, seeds of promise, if nurtured

Explain What Occurred During The Scientific Revolution
What occurred during the scientific revolution? The scientific revolution was a period of time when
people started doubting the church. The scientific revolution modernizes the ways of thinking
dramatically. Nicolaus Copernicus made numerous discoveries about the universe; one of his
discoveries was the heliocentric theory which contradicts the church. Galileo confirming the
heliocentric theory brought him into conflict with the church. The scientific revolution modernizes the
ways of thinking dramatically.
Nicolaus Copernicus was an astronomer who arose the Heliocentric Theory which caused the
scientific revolution. Copernicus discoveries were very important, and impacted science to this day.
Copernicus constructed his data from his astronomical observations of sun centered cosmology. The
Heliocentric theory is the belief that the sun is in the center of the universe and all the planets revolve
around it. The Heliocentric Theory contradicts The Geocentric. Copernicus s heliocentric solar system
named the sun, rather than the earth, as the center of the solar system . (http://www.biography.com/).
Copernicus came up with another theory. The theory was that the center of gravity is the earth, and the
earth is the center of the moon s orbit. Copernicus theory was that planets revolve around the sun.

What Was The Us Declared War On Germany Essay
It was April 1st a day before the US declared war on Germany. It was a regular day at my houses. That
day I didn t do much but I had no idea what soon would happen. It was later that day when I was
getting ready for bed. That morning I woke up not knowing what was happening. It was a few hours
later when my dad got home from work and told us that the US had declared war on Germany. He said
that his boss had gotten a call from his friend in Washington. He said that the president had gave a
speech to congress. I was surprised the US had stayed neutral for a long time.
It was a couple months later since the US declared war on Germany. The US had sent 200,000 soldiers

Analysis Of The Poem The Winter Evening Settles Down
T.S Eliot s poem, The winter evening settles down is a short, simple to read poem with several
different examples of imagery. Eliot uses descriptive words, for instance, withered leaves , broken
blinds , and lonely cab horse (lines 7 10). He paints an extremely bleak image of a town that seems to
be deserted of people. The tone of the poem plays hand in hand with the imagery used. This town is an
unpleasant place where it has seemed to be neglected for some years now. Eliot s use of imagery takes
the reader to this deserted, torpid place; however, at the same time, his goal is to bring the life back
into this grim town.
As stated prior, the town being described in the poem has a very dull and gloomy feel that surrounds
it. The first line reads, the winter evening settles down. By personifying winter, the reader is able to
have a visual idea of what is currently happening in this fallen town. After reading this line one is able
to make the inference that the setting of this poem is the winter season. A winters day can start off
beautiful and seem magical, however, when the day comes to an end and the snow slowly starts to
melt and everything becomes disgusting. Eliot is slowly painting an eerie scene in just the first line of
the poem. There is also an underlying feeling of exhaustion and boredom described throughout this
poem. The burnt out ends of smoky days (line 4) causes the reader to visualize perhaps the burnt out
end of a cigarette. The fire is gone at the

The Catholic Church And The Teachings About The Nature Of God
The Catholic Church s Response to the Heretical Teachings about the Nature of God.
One of the major topics of discussion in the early church was about the nature of God. Some people
questioned the oneness of God and did not believe that there is one essence in all three persons of
God. Some other people did not believe that there are three persons of God. The major heresies all fit
on a scale between two opposites. These opposites consist of Monarchianism and Tritheism. The
heresies eventually led the church to establish the doctrine of Trinity in the Council of Nicaea held in
the year 325 A.D. Even though the heresies between the two extremes were appealing, the Catholic
Church rejects them and teaches the doctrine of Trinity.
On the end of one extreme is Monarchianism. Monarchianism developed as an attempt to maintain
monotheism and refute Tritheism . . Monarchianism expands on monotheism; however, it exaggerates
the oneness of God. Monarchianism teaches the idea that God is just one person. There are two sorts
of Monarchianism. The two types of Monarchianism consist of modalistic Monarchianism and
dynamic Monarchianism. Modalistic Monarchianism is the belief that the one unique God manifests
Himself in three different modes or stages . Modalistic monarchianists believed that the one person of
God was simply the one that is described as the Father in the trinity. Modalistic monarchianists also
believed God appeared as the Son and the Holy Spirit whenever it fitted for

The Impacts Of The Darfur Crisis
It is about fourteen years now since the outbreak of the bloody conflict in Darfur region, western part
of the Republic of Sudan. The crisis in Darfur is not an unintentional tragedy, or a human devastation
that humanitarian intercession can annul or solve. Darfur conflict is as not straightforward as
presented in the media, which casts the clash in requisite ethnic conflicts between Arabs and black
Africans. The veracity is far more messed up. It is a human being catastrophe that finally reinvented
into a sadistic cycle of brutality in February, 2003.

The Five Approaches And Models Of Consumer Behavior Theory
Consumer behavior theory which is also called utility theory. It is the theory which focus on studying
different groups of consumers decisions of selecting, purchasing, using, disposing various
products(Solomon, Bamossy et al., 2006; Schiffman ANDKanuk 2007). According to Bray, J. P. s
(2008)article which relates to the approaches and models of consumer behavior theory, it is said that
there are five theoretical approaches which would study consumer behavior theory, including
economic man, psychodynamic, behaviorist, cognitive and humanistic.
Economic man which explains that men would maximize the utility by using minimum effort based on
the indicators of cardinal usefulness. For human beings, when they make a decision, they would
consider kinds of aspects before the action, they may think about their own preferences, self economy
condition, the quality and the price of the product, and also the age, they would think whether it is
suitable for them etc and finally make a best choice. However, Psychodynamic is quite different from
the economic man, it is another factor which is influenced by consumers mentalities rather than the
external environment. The willingness of customers decision is from the depth of their heart not

Essay on Media and Cultivation Theory
In an ever increasingly mediated society, mass media has become inseparable with the production of
everyday life. Media is now a platform for members of society to connect with global events and other
people beyond their own personal experience. For many, the media is a major source of information
and accounts of violence, as presented by the mass media, are the primary medium by which the
average person comes to know crime and justice (Barak, 1994). The following essay will explore the
theories of both cultivation analysis, as established by George Gerbner, as well as agenda setting,

As Griffin (2009, p. 364) so concisely stated, the media aren t very successful in telling us what to
think, but they are stunningly successful in telling us what to think about . In more recent times, the
direction of this theory has changed. Scholars have begun to focus on how the media frame social
issues through the inclusion and omission of certain attributes of particular events (Ruddock, 2013).
Framing refers to the forming of narratives and concepts that deliver meaning as an event unfolds
(McCombs and Shaw, 1972). Themes such as media violence, particularly in the event of a school
shooting, are often used to repeatedly reinforce social norms that are deemed important by the media.
As a result, generic stereotypes are inevitably cast and the potential copycat behavior advertised.

new digital era, society actively participates in both receiving and creating media messages to shape
social reality (Ruddock, 2013). In

Community leaders, California is experiencing the most severe drought in decades, perhaps the worst

and potential loss in the agriculture business. While it has only been four years since the drought
began, we have already seen a substantial loss in the body of water California water reservoirs

The Endocrine Part Of The Pancreas
The endocrine part of the pancreas consists of pancreatic islets (islets of the Langerhans). Insulin and
glucagon are hormones secreted by islet cells of the pancreas. Both of these hormones are secreted
depending on the blood glucose levels. Alpha cells of the pancreatic islets secrete glucagon and beta
cells of the pancreatic islets secrete insulin (Marieb, 2012). Insulin and glucagon are equally vital in
managing blood glucose, making sure the body functions well.
Glucose, which comes from the food we eat, is important for every body system. A decline in the

Some of the fatty acids are converted by the liver into acidic ketones as fats are broken down,
(Lienhard, G., 1992), which are released into the blood stream.
Insulin is normally secreted by the beta cells (a type of islet cell) of the pancreas. Insulin secretion is
triggered by high blood glucose level and increased parasympathetic stimulation that is associated
with digestion of a meal. Decreased insulin secretion results from decreasing blood glucose levels and
from stimulation by the sympathetic division of the nervous system (Seeley and Stephens, 2005).
Sympathetic stimulation of the pancreas increase during physical activities. Decreased insulin levels
allow blood glucose to be conserved to provide the brain with adequate glucose and to allow other
tissues to metabolize fatty acids and glycogen stored in the cells.

Examples Of Women In The Odyssey
Question 4: When applying the Gender/Feminist critical lens to The Odyssey what emerges? What are
the roles of women and the roles of men in this text? What overall statement about gender is made in
this text?
Answer: When applying the Gender/ Feminist critical lens to The Odyssey, multiple things emerge
such as seeing how women and men are portrayed. Throughout the book, women are portrayed as
seductresses, such as Circe and Kalypso or they are portrayed as helpless or a victim such as Penelope.
One example of women being portrayed as a seductress is when Circe told Odysseus that they shall
mingle and make love. (10.376 377) Throughout the book, Penelope is seen as helpless because all she
does is cater to the suitors every need, but even then she is a villain to the suitors since she refuses to
remarrying: You should know the suitors are not to blame It is your own dear, incomparable cunning
mother. (2.95 96) Meanwhile, men, such as Odysseus, are not described on how they are dressed such
as the women, but instead on how they look. Odysseus is described as rough and dangerous: Caked
with blood like a mountain lion (22.449) These are just a few ways on how women were treated
differently from men.

The Effects Of Tax Reform
When gauging the effects of various corporate tax rates, we used two evaluative factors to measure
effectiveness of our proposed policy alternatives. The most important evaluation mechanism for
gauging the effectiveness of tax reform is the change in revenue attributed to the change in policy.
Changes in state gross domestic product are also important to consider when proposing changes to
corporate taxes, because a correlation can be made between tax rates and corporate economic output.
Because Iowa has not reformed its corporate tax rate since 1981, we opted to analyze the effects of
these criteria on other states that have changes their corporate tax rates since 2000. We decided against
analyzing the effects of changes in other Iowa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meanwhile, Kansas lowered its top tax on corporate income by a mere 0.3% in 2008, bringing the rate
to 7.05%. This change decreased the states revenue collections from corporate taxes by more than
$150 million (2007, 2009, 2010, 2012)1. The results in Kansas represent that when the corporate rate
decreases, revenue collections decrease as well.
The results described above are not by any means consistent. Some states have increased their tax
rates, only to see large declines in corporate tax revenue. By analyzing similar changes in tax rates and
revenue collections in other states, a pattern of correlation begins to emerge, which can be seen in
Figure 4 below.
As Figure 4 illustrates, the correlation between tax rates and revenue generations are assumed to be a
direct correlation; that is, as the tax rate increases, revenue collections increase, and vice versa.
However, this pattern is only true for tax rates that lie on both the high and low ends of the tax scale.
By finding the mean of the highest tax rate of states with recent reforms (Illinois @ 9.5% and
Connecticut @ 9.00%), we calculated ½ of a standard deviation and assume this to be the relevant
range of tax rates where there is no significant correlation with revenue collections. In this range,
increasing or decreasing the corporate tax rate will not automatically lead to similar results in revenue
collections.
Keeping in mind this distribution of tax rates and revenue collections, we

The Treatment Philosophy Of Alcoholics Anonymous
Meeting attended: Alcoholics Anonymous, Serenity Group, Urban Ministries, 03/07/2016, 1200.
The treatment philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is that of a 12 step program, additionally,
the group caters to individuals who are recovering, or trying to recover from alcoholism. This group
only focuses on alcohol abuse/misuse and not any other types of addiction. The 12 step program used
by AA uses a person s spirituality to focus their attention on their higher power and how they might
draw strength from it. In the meeting that I attended, the participants concentrated on the first two
steps of the 12 step program. The first step, admitting that the person is/was powerless over alcohol,
opened my eyes due to the fact that I always had thought that the first step was admitting you have a
problem. Although, they come to the same conclusion, the word powerless struck a chord because
being powerless can leave you feeling worthless and weak. The second step, believing that a power
greater than yourself will restore you to sanity, I feel was the absolute focus of this meeting. The
participants read prayers and meditation passages before the meeting really got underway. I looked
around at the faces in the room and I saw peace and acceptance on most faces when they were praying
to their God to give them strength to abstain from alcohol for the day.
After the opening prayers, dedications, meditation, and introductions (to which everyone said their

Essay on Gilbert Ryle’s The Concept of Mind
Gilbert Ryle s The Concept of Mind
Gilbert Ryle s The Concept of Mind (1949) is a critique of the notion that the mind is distinct from the
body, and is a rejection of the philosophical theory that mental states are distinct from physical states.
Ryle argues that the traditional approach to the relation of mind and body (i.e., the approach which is
taken by the philosophy of Descartes) assumes that there is a basic distinction between Mind and
Matter. According to Ryle, this assumption is a basic category mistake, because it attempts to analyze
the relation betwen mind and body as if they were terms of the same logical category. Furthermore,
Ryle argues that traditional Idealism makes a basic category mistake by trying to ... Show more

There are no mental processes which are distinct from intelligent acts. The operations of the mind are
not merely represented by intelligent acts, but are the same as intelligent acts. Thus, an act of
remembering, dreaming, knowing, or willing is not merely a clue to some hidden mental process or
intellectual operation, it is how that mental process or intellectual operation is defined. A logical
proposition is not merely a clue to a particular mode of reasoning, it is that mode of reasoning.
Ryle rejects the doctrine that the will is a faculty within the mind, and the doctrine that volitions are
mental processes which the human body transforms into physical acts. Ryle explains that this doctrine
is an example of the myth that mental acts are distinct from physical acts, and of the myth that there is
a mental world which is distinct from the physical world. This doctrine of separation between mind
and body is referred to by Ryle as the dogma of the ghost in the machine. Ryle argues that there is no
ghostly, invisible entity called the mind inside a mechanical apparatus called the body. The workings
of the mind are not an independent mechanism which governs the workings of the body. The workings
of the mind are not distinct from the actions of the body, but are conceptualized as a way of explaining
the actions of the body.
Ryle argues that, according to the traditional theory of the mind, mental acts are regarded as causing

Online MBA Programs versus On site Programs With unemployment rates at an all time high
combined with the increasing costs associated with traditional brick and mortar schools, online
education is by far one of the fastest growing and thriving industries. As younger students are
attempting to pursue traditional higher education, they are realizing that the costs are not only
increasing daily, but the programs are longer in duration and often not a better education than the
online line programs. Those who have lost their jobs and need an edge over other unemployed
candidates are finding that a B.A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where as our initial marketing plan was very narrow, the market has since completely opened up and
we now are in a position expand our offerings to larger audience. We will propose to re brand and
redirect our SDHE as to appeal to a much broader demographic segment. The ultimate goal is to
convince potential students that SDHE is a viable higher education institution that exceeds the
offerings of our competitors while maintaining a lower cost for an MBA degree. Our niche is that we
are in fact a smaller institution and can therefore offer a more customized program in which students
do not feel as though they are just a source of revenue for our company; they will feel as though they
are receiving critical and accessible services that they will not receive from the larger institutions.

Latent Defect Essay
Mike Christensen
December 10, 2009
CM 385: Section 1
Final Paper
How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work?
Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one
manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and
disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith
into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, The person who risks nothing does nothing, has
nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot
learn... and grow... and live. (Buscalglia, 2009) The contractor who is bound to the owner must

Binghamton Housing Authority. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace
apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The
parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in
constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v.
Schofield case, which states, We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty
of making a machine accident proof or foolproof. The court also noted that the complex had been used
without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not
have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not
contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of the child.
Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as
long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified.
Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent
defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor.
Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent

July 29th , 2015 The Challenge is to Persuade
I believe there are parts of our society that have become fractured and divided somewhat beyond
repair and I think that there is an extent to which doing what is needed takes precedent over gaining
the consent to do it. This is what I mean by the challenge is to persuade, I really feel that those people
who have been manipulated into working against their best interest simply need to be persuaded to a
more progressive viewpoint. And I think they need to be persuaded by seeing the benefits of collective

You can also define the skill as your ability to change the actions or behaviors of other people, or to
encourage the actions and behaviors of others.
In a business setting this would be a manager s ability to get his employees to do their work more
efficiently; in a relationship this would be the influence to gain compromise from your partner,
siblings or children.
In the public this would be your ability to negotiate with strangers and foreigners, to get out of bad
situations or simply to negotiate better positions for yourself.
How the skill could be useful in business
In the work environment you do not always have the decision making autonomy that you need to
make your ideas a priority so the ability to persuade others to endorse or advocate for your ideas is a
valuable skill. When you re working with others, if you ever take on too much work it would be great
to be able to persuade your coworkers to assist you. You may even need to persuade your supervisors
or shareholders to give you more time instead of putting you under more pressure.
If you are responsible for training customer facing employees in your organization not only do you
have to be able to persuade them you need to be able to teach them persuasion in how to work with
your organization s customers. You may also need to persuade coworkers and employees to get them
more motivated and focused on their work.
If you want to grow in your organization you will find yourself constantly persuading the

Pawnee School Case Study
Why this situation is Undesirable
How the teacher shortage will harm the mission and values of this school While the mission of this
school is not clearly articulated on the school s website, the values of the Pawnee School District are
clearly shown in its philosophy statement:
Pawnee School is committed to providing students with a nurturing challenging, and disciplined
education that will prepare them for post high school opportunities. Our district recognizes individual
expression, creativity, and initiative, as well as encourages enthusiasm for life long learning and an
excellence in all endeavors. We will assist each student in developing a positive and realistic self
image that will allow them to maximize their talents and become happy, healthy, and productive
members of society. ( Our Staff, 2017)
From this philosophy statement, it is obvious that this school values growing students, establishing a
disciplined growth culture, and improving the self image of the students. As teachers are often cited as
most important factor dictating students learning (McCaffery et al, 2003), they play a significant factor
in establishing the school s and classroom culture (Supovitz Turner, 2000), and building the self worth
of students (Ryan, Stiller, Lynch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Explore How the Character of Prospero Develops in the...
Prospero is the most central character in Shakespeare s The Tempest . The play revolves around his
personal task to regain his dukedom, which his brother Antonio usurped from him. Throughout the
play it is shown how Prospero develops and changes as a character and seems a different person to the
character we first meet in Act One Scene Two. How Prospero s character develops happens in a
variety of ways, one of the most potent ways appearing to be the treatment of the other characters
within the play. Prospero s character is introduced into the play in Act One Scene Two, after the
tempest has shipwrecked Antonio and Alonso s ship. We firstly come to realise that Prospero and
Miranda are looking down upon the tempest and so the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is easy to see this by the way that Prospero speaks to him using sub human terms such as Thou
poisonous slave (4) and him being called a fish (5).
Yet as Prospero s character develops, he appears to become less vengeful. Caliban as a sub (or non)
human has no rights at all. Furthermore, he was part of a murder plot to kill Prospero so it would not
be unusual for the audience to expect Prospero to use his power to get rid of Caliban. Yet in the final
act of the scene of the play, Caliban says:
Ay, that I will; and I ll be wise hereafter
And seek for grace. (6)
Caliban here repents and agrees to seek grace and is simply allowed to go and live on the Island. This
does not mirror the actions of Prospero at the beginning and throughout the play. He seems to play the
role of the cruel sorcerer using his powers to gain control over people and scare them. Yet his action
towards Caliban in Act Five seems unlike the character that he has been throughout the play.
How he treats Caliban does mirror how he is treats the rest of the characters in the final scene. He does
not seem to punish any of the characters, even his brother Antonio. It appears to me that once he has
completed the task he wanted to complete and so is able to become Duke of Milan once again he is a
more compassionate person. He lets the other characters go free from their punishments. The only
characters who seem to be punished are Trinculo and Stephano but they are

Radioactivity Lab Report
Objective
Radioactivity is present all throughout the environments on earth, which relates to the unstable atomic
nuclei. Going into detail, radioactivity occurs in unstable atomic nuclei and is caused by the
spontaneous disintegration of atomic nuclei. Radiation is used in numerous ways that are used in
experiments and medical procedures. In this article, radioactivity will be defined, the three types of
radioactivity will be explained, and the different methods of radiation will be illustrated.
Introduction Nuclei are formed with a higher stability after unstable atomic nuclei spontaneously
decompose, and this process is called radioactivity. Therefore, radioactivity refers to the particles that
are released from nuclei due to nuclear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The alpha particles have an atomic mass of 4 and a charge of +2. When an alpha particle is released
from the nucleus, the mass number of the particle decreases by four units and the atomic number
decreases by two units. An example of this would be where the helium nucleus is the alpha particle.
The energy is a collection of stable nucleons, and those heavier nuclei that can be perceived as
collections of alpha particles, such as carbon 12.01 or oxygen 16.00 are also stable. Beta radiation is a
stream of electrons that are called beta particles. When the beta particle is released, a neutron is
transformed to a proton in the nucleus, thus maintaining the mass number of the nucleus. Although,
the atomic number increases by one unit. An example of this occurring is when the electron is the beta
particle. Pursuing this further, gamma rays are high energy photons with a very short wavelength of
0.0005 to 0.1 nm. The emission of gamma radiation results from an energy change within the atomic
nucleus. Gamma emission changes neither the atomic number nor the atomic mass. Alpha and beta
emission are often accompanied by gamma emission, as an excited nucleus drops to a lower and more
stable energy

Volunteer Spirit Research Paper
The volunteer spirit, in essence, is a feeling of pride that I have for having the opportunity to attend
the University of Tennessee. It means embracing the traditions, the history, and especially the color
orange. The volunteer spirit is the pride that you see at every football game in all the students, alumni,
and other fans that are yelling Rocky Top as loud as they can. It is the sense of wonder you can see in
the students expanding their horizons and working to learn so that they can make their mark on the
world and improve it. The volunteer spirit is something that is different for everyone. It is a different
experience for every student; however, it stems from one thing, a love for the University of Tennessee.

I can use the knowledge that I gain at Tennessee to build a life for myself and hopefully, I can impact
the world. This is not an easy task; however, I believe that the University of Tennessee has the
resources and professors that will allow me to accomplish this. I plan to completely accept the spirit of
the campus when I arrive and to branch out so that I can become a well rounded person and so that I
can expand my knowledge as much as possible. In the end, I think that the volunteer spirit boils down
to the love and pride that I, and many others, have for UT. It is this love that causes us to cheer for it
no matter what, and even to wear orange despite it not matching with anything. It is a desire to have
the full experience while attending the University and learning all you can from it. It is making the
most of your years at the University of Tennessee and asking sure that you get involved and make
strong, lasting friendships. The volunteer spirit is different for everyone, and everyone can interpret it
differently; however,

The Meaning Of The Four Seasons
In this essay I will explain the definition of a concerto, what it is, where it was developed and who
made it popular. I will also discuss the most creative composer of the solo concerto who was Antonio
Vivaldi. Thirdly I will focus on the main traits Vivaldi developed in a concerto with reference to one
of his most enchanting works The Four Seasons.
Concerto
A concerto is a musical composition for a solo instrument or instruments accompanied by an orchestra
.The soloist will have the opportunity to show their potential during the cadenza part in a concerto. A
cadenza is an embellished solo section, usually placed at the end of the first movement of a concerto.
Concerto defines as a word both meaning competing and accommodating . Contrast, is a popular
aspect in a concerto during the Baroque ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structural thinking behind the Four Seasons was that each movement twelve in all (three per
season) would evoke a certain mood. Vivaldi delivered elegance and originality in his work. His music
mirrors graphically the action described; this literary link is called program music.Vilvaldis four
season concertos were based on an Italian sonnet, likely written by Vivaldi where he depicts and
illustrates the narratives through his compositions. For example, in Vivaldi s second concerto summer
he depicts a peaceful, calm mood at the beginning of the first movement. The atmosphere is
extraordinarily vivid, depicting the oppressive heat from the Mediterranean sun. The plaintive signs of
the violin, separated by silences which suggest the intake of breath is a tiring exertion, it gives no hint
to the explosive energy that lies ahead. (See example two). In the concerto Winter he evokes a thunder
storm, with the use of piercing high notes in the violin at a rapid speed. For

  • 2. Essay about Motivation for Work Work is a positive thing for many people. To some people, it may be described as a place to escape from the kids, or even a time consumption thing for a single or retired person, but most importantly it is what we do in order to provide for our families and ourselves. Work is something that we all will experience at one time or another during our lives. There are several reasons why a person goes to work. These reasons can be better explained as work motivation . Work motivation can be defined as the inner forces that make us work and want to work harder to achieve personal or organizational goals (George Jones, 2005). There are two different types of motivation; intrinsic and extrinsic. When personal goals motivate us, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, things like total accomplishment motivate Aberdeen s employees; they thrive on bettering the work environment, learning new skills and getting to participate in group leadership. You could say that the main difference between the Aberdeen and Green River plants have mostly to do with which type of motivational reasoning each have. Aberdeen employees are motivated for intrinsic reasons. They continue to work hard for the satisfaction of the entire company doing well, as Green River employees do things for extrinsic reasons. They are only concerned with doing only what it takes to make more money. There are several different ways an employer can motivate their employee s: job design goals, performance appraisal, pay, and career development. Job design is the process of envisioning and defining specific work systems for a particular job, and deciding what techniques, procedures, and equipment that it will take to do the job (George Jones, 2005). Job design plays an important role in enhancing motivational levels in the workplace. It seems that if you can break jobs down individually and make them simpler to understand do, then people are more apt to do them effectively. With this in mind, I would like to recommend that Green River s management break their jobs down into steps to help simplify and make for better production. • 3. The Role Of Loyalty In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein It is in the human condition to distinguish ourselves from those around us, to attempt to rise above the turbulent sea of people that encompasses the Earth. Thousands of years ago, this meant being stronger, faster, or smarter than the competition. Today, these attributes are still taken into account, but a few more have been added to the spectrum. Fame, wealth, and power are all viewed today to be distinguishing characteristics, so, naturally, humans have adapted to seek glory. However, mankind s desperation for glory often results in the overstepping of boundaries, whether scientific, moral, or societal, ultimately leading to the downfall of the seeker. Mary Shelley demonstrates this concept in her Gothic novel Frankenstein. She utilizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Victor, Walton, and the Creature s quests were unsuccessful due to their overstepping of scientific, social, and moral bounds. In Victor s case, his downfall was the result of his haste to create a sentient being for the glory that would result. This problem exists not only in Frankenstein, but in the modern world as well. Today, with the world s newly advanced technology, innovators around the globe are inquiring as to how to shatter the limits of science by creating a new series sentient life. While the altering of DNA to create genetically modified humans is possible, albeit extremely expensive, the process is highly scrutinized as to whether it is morally valid and within the realm of what scientists are allowed to tinker with. Those against human modification say that, like Frankenstein and his creature, the possibility for the process to go south is too great and shouldn t be risked. Those in favor of the alteration respond with promises of bettering society through a new, disease resistant, genetically superior species. They say that the creation of these superhumans would result in a higher standard of living, and, of course, glory. Cautioned to us by Mary Shelley almost 200 years ago and still true today, overstepping bounds in the pursuit of glory is a dangerous act and will result in failure. After all, seeds of promise, if nurtured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The scientific revolution modernizes the ways of thinking dramatically. Nicolaus Copernicus made numerous discoveries about the universe; one of his discoveries was the heliocentric theory which contradicts the church. Galileo confirming the heliocentric theory brought him into conflict with the church. The scientific revolution modernizes the ways of thinking dramatically. Nicolaus Copernicus was an astronomer who arose the Heliocentric Theory which caused the scientific revolution. Copernicus discoveries were very important, and impacted science to this day. Copernicus constructed his data from his astronomical observations of sun centered cosmology. The Heliocentric theory is the belief that the sun is in the center of the universe and all the planets revolve around it. The Heliocentric Theory contradicts The Geocentric. Copernicus s heliocentric solar system named the sun, rather than the earth, as the center of the solar system . (http://www.biography.com/). Copernicus came up with another theory. • 6. Analysis Of The Poem The Winter Evening Settles Down T.S Eliot s poem, The winter evening settles down is a short, simple to read poem with several different examples of imagery. Eliot uses descriptive words, for instance, withered leaves , broken blinds , and lonely cab horse (lines 7 10). He paints an extremely bleak image of a town that seems to be deserted of people. The tone of the poem plays hand in hand with the imagery used. This town is an unpleasant place where it has seemed to be neglected for some years now. Eliot s use of imagery takes the reader to this deserted, torpid place; however, at the same time, his goal is to bring the life back into this grim town. As stated prior, the town being described in the poem has a very dull and gloomy feel that surrounds it. The first line reads, the winter evening settles down. By personifying winter, the reader is able to have a visual idea of what is currently happening in this fallen town. After reading this line one is able to make the inference that the setting of this poem is the winter season. A winters day can start off beautiful and seem magical, however, when the day comes to an end and the snow slowly starts to melt and everything becomes disgusting. Eliot is slowly painting an eerie scene in just the first line of the poem. There is also an underlying feeling of exhaustion and boredom described throughout this poem. The burnt out ends of smoky days (line 4) causes the reader to visualize perhaps the burnt out end of a cigarette. The fire is gone at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Catholic Church And The Teachings About The Nature Of God The Catholic Church s Response to the Heretical Teachings about the Nature of God. One of the major topics of discussion in the early church was about the nature of God. Some people questioned the oneness of God and did not believe that there is one essence in all three persons of God. Some other people did not believe that there are three persons of God. The major heresies all fit on a scale between two opposites. These opposites consist of Monarchianism and Tritheism. The heresies eventually led the church to establish the doctrine of Trinity in the Council of Nicaea held in the year 325 A.D. Even though the heresies between the two extremes were appealing, the Catholic Church rejects them and teaches the doctrine of Trinity. On the end of one extreme is Monarchianism. Monarchianism developed as an attempt to maintain monotheism and refute Tritheism . . Monarchianism expands on monotheism; however, it exaggerates the oneness of God. Monarchianism teaches the idea that God is just one person. There are two sorts of Monarchianism. The two types of Monarchianism consist of modalistic Monarchianism and dynamic Monarchianism. Modalistic Monarchianism is the belief that the one unique God manifests Himself in three different modes or stages . Modalistic monarchianists believed that the one person of God was simply the one that is described as the Father in the trinity. Modalistic monarchianists also believed God appeared as the Son and the Holy Spirit whenever it fitted for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a human being catastrophe that finally reinvented into a sadistic cycle of brutality in February, 2003. Although each character s situation diverges slightly from one another, they all posses similar dilemmas when finding their distinctiveness or cohesiveness in society. The reader will obtain psychological insight and a full perception of the characters after they read Basics of Identity by Shahram Heshmat, Authenticity and Identity by Robert Edelsein, and Are you Having an Identity Crisis by Susan Krauss Whitbourne. One character dealing with identity complications is Brinker Hadley. Brinker is under a great deal of pressure from his parents, who coerce him into high classes and unwanted extracurriculars. In his article, Heshmat asserts that the majority of people adopt the values of their parents, but this is a predicament for Brinker because these values may or may not be aligned with one s true authentic self and create unfulfilling life . • 12. Essay on Media and Cultivation Theory In an ever increasingly mediated society, mass media has become inseparable with the production of everyday life. Media is now a platform for members of society to connect with global events and other people beyond their own personal experience. For many, the media is a major source of information and accounts of violence, as presented by the mass media, are the primary medium by which the average person comes to know crime and justice (Barak, 1994). The following essay will explore the theories of both cultivation analysis, as established by George Gerbner, as well as agenda setting, reputable to Maxwell McCombs and Donald Shaw. As Griffin (2009, p. 364) so concisely stated, the media aren t very successful in telling us what to think, but they are stunningly successful in telling us what to think about . In more recent times, the direction of this theory has changed. Scholars have begun to focus on how the media frame social issues through the inclusion and omission of certain attributes of particular events (Ruddock, 2013). Framing refers to the forming of narratives and concepts that deliver meaning as an event unfolds (McCombs and Shaw, 1972). Themes such as media violence, particularly in the event of a school shooting, are often used to repeatedly reinforce social norms that are deemed important by the media. As a result, generic stereotypes are inevitably cast and the potential copycat behavior advertised. Only days ago, Elliot Rodger, a twenty two year old student at the University of California in Santa Barbara, embarked on a killing spree within the student community of Isla Vista. Insulin and glucagon are equally vital in managing blood glucose, making sure the body functions well. Glucose, which comes from the food we eat, is important for every body system. Insulin is normally secreted by the beta cells (a type of islet cell) of the pancreas. Insulin secretion is triggered by high blood glucose level and increased parasympathetic stimulation that is associated with digestion of a meal. Decreased insulin secretion results from decreasing blood glucose levels and from stimulation by the sympathetic division of the nervous system (Seeley and Stephens, 2005). What overall statement about gender is made in this text? Answer: When applying the Gender/ Feminist critical lens to The Odyssey, multiple things emerge such as seeing how women and men are portrayed. Throughout the book, women are portrayed as seductresses, such as Circe and Kalypso or they are portrayed as helpless or a victim such as Penelope. One example of women being portrayed as a seductress is when Circe told Odysseus that they shall mingle and make love. (10.376 377) Throughout the book, Penelope is seen as helpless because all she does is cater to the suitors every need, but even then she is a villain to the suitors since she refuses to remarrying: You should know the suitors are not to blame It is your own dear, incomparable cunning mother. (2.95 96) Meanwhile, men, such as Odysseus, are not described on how they are dressed such as the women, but instead on how they look. The most important evaluation mechanism for gauging the effectiveness of tax reform is the change in revenue attributed to the change in policy. Changes in state gross domestic product are also important to consider when proposing changes to corporate taxes, because a correlation can be made between tax rates and corporate economic output. Because Iowa has not reformed its corporate tax rate since 1981, we opted to analyze the effects of these criteria on other states that have changes their corporate tax rates since 2000. Meanwhile, Kansas lowered its top tax on corporate income by a mere 0.3% in 2008, bringing the rate to 7.05%. This change decreased the states revenue collections from corporate taxes by more than $150 million (2007, 2009, 2010, 2012)1. The results in Kansas represent that when the corporate rate decreases, revenue collections decrease as well. The results described above are not by any means consistent. Some states have increased their tax rates, only to see large declines in corporate tax revenue. By analyzing similar changes in tax rates and revenue collections in other states, a pattern of correlation begins to emerge, which can be seen in Figure 4 below. As Figure 4 illustrates, the correlation between tax rates and revenue generations are assumed to be a direct correlation; that is, as the tax rate increases, revenue collections increase, and vice versa. However, this pattern is only true for tax rates that lie on both the high and low ends of the tax scale. By finding the mean of the highest tax rate of states with recent reforms (Illinois @ 9.5% and Connecticut @ 9.00%), we calculated ½ of a standard deviation and assume this to be the relevant range of tax rates where there is no significant correlation with revenue collections. In this range, increasing or decreasing the corporate tax rate will not automatically lead to similar results in revenue collections. Ryle argues that the traditional approach to the relation of mind and body (i.e., the approach which is taken by the philosophy of Descartes) assumes that there is a basic distinction between Mind and Matter. According to Ryle, this assumption is a basic category mistake, because it attempts to analyze the relation betwen mind and body as if they were terms of the same logical category. Thus, an act of remembering, dreaming, knowing, or willing is not merely a clue to some hidden mental process or intellectual operation, it is how that mental process or intellectual operation is defined. A logical proposition is not merely a clue to a particular mode of reasoning, it is that mode of reasoning. Ryle rejects the doctrine that the will is a faculty within the mind, and the doctrine that volitions are mental processes which the human body transforms into physical acts. Ryle explains that this doctrine is an example of the myth that mental acts are distinct from physical acts, and of the myth that there is a mental world which is distinct from the physical world. This doctrine of separation between mind and body is referred to by Ryle as the dogma of the ghost in the machine. Ryle argues that there is no ghostly, invisible entity called the mind inside a mechanical apparatus called the body. The workings of the mind are not an independent mechanism which governs the workings of the body. The workings of the mind are not distinct from the actions of the body, but are conceptualized as a way of explaining the actions of the body.
