to 7.05%. This change decreased the states revenue collections from corporate taxes by more than
$150 million (2007, 2009, 2010, 2012)1. The results in Kansas represent that when the corporate rate
decreases, revenue collections decrease as well.
The results described above are not by any means consistent. Some states have increased their tax
rates, only to see large declines in corporate tax revenue. By analyzing similar changes in tax rates and
revenue collections in other states, a pattern of correlation begins to emerge, which can be seen in
Figure 4 below.
As Figure 4 illustrates, the correlation between tax rates and revenue generations are assumed to be a
direct correlation; that is, as the tax rate increases, revenue collections increase, and vice versa.
However, this pattern is only true for tax rates that lie on both the high and low ends of the tax scale.
By finding the mean of the highest tax rate of states with recent reforms (Illinois @ 9.5% and
Connecticut @ 9.00%), we calculated ½ of a standard deviation and assume this to be the relevant
range of tax rates where there is no significant correlation with revenue collections. In this range,
increasing or decreasing the corporate tax rate will not automatically lead to similar results in revenue
collections.

only focuses on alcohol abuse/misuse and not any other types of addiction. The 12 step program used
by AA uses a person s spirituality to focus their attention on their higher power and how they might

steps of the 12 step program. The first step, admitting that the person is/was powerless over alcohol,
