Valley Region of the Appalachian Mountains and Subsequent Karst Regions in the State of Virginia
This map which appears on page 402 of Process Geomorphology (1995), written by Dale
F. Ritter, Craig R. Kochel, and Jerry R. Miller, serves as the basis of my report on the formation of the
Appalachian Mountains and its subsequent karst regions in along the
Atlantic side of the United States particularly in the state of Virginia. The shaded areas represent
generalized karst regions throughout the United States.
The state of Virginia is divided into five major physiological regions based on similar landscapes and
relatively static climates, each region being as diverse as the next.

(Stanley, 349) However, it was not until the third episode, during
Cenozoic era, that the conspicuous fold and thrust belt of the central and southern
Appalachians formed as the result of the mid carboniferous collision of Euroamerica with
Gondwanaland (Stanley, 372).
At the point of impact between the Euroamerica and Gondwanaland plates, immense pressure turned
igneous and sedimentary rock into metamorphic rock which proceeded to break in numerous places.
The resulting fold and thrust belt were exceedingly susceptible to weathering and erosion by means of
wind and water. Streams began to flow along weak layers that define the folds and faults and carved
the resistant folded rocks of the mountain core creating karst geologic structures.
The karst regions of Virginia exist today in a stillmountainous region is a zone of low temperature
deformation called the Valley and Ridge Province (Stanley, 372). The
Valley and Ridge Province is said the be the, most rugged area of the state as this region consists of
both high peaks and low lying valleys extending from present day Virginia, to Maryland, and
northwestward to West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and northern
New Jersey. The ridges are composed of fairly resistant strata while the valleys depict erodable
materials. Patterson

Cons Of Human Cloning
Introduction
The topic of cloning has brought much debate in science and also in society. Many people believe that
reproductive cloning would be beneficial while on the other hand, many people believe that it is too
risky and unethical. Reproductive cloning has shown advantages and disadvantages to humanity,
animals, and society. Through research and critical thinking, we will look at both the issues and the
benefits that come with reproductive cloning.
What is Cloning
There are three different types of artificial cloning: gene cloning, reproductive cloning, and
therapeutic cloning (Cloning Fact Sheet, 2017). Reproductive cloning is the process used when
creating a copy of an animal or human. It can also occur in nature; which happens when mammals
have identical twins. The application of somatic nuclear transfer technology to the creation of a human
being that shares all of its nuclear genes with the person donating the implanted nucleus (Pros and
Cons of Human Cloning, 2016). The process of reproductive cloning may seem relatively
straightforward; however, there is a unique and rigorous process that goes into creating a clone. First,
scientist remove a somatic cell from an animal that they wish to copy and then transfer the DNA from
the cell into an egg cell. The egg then develops into an early stage embryo while still in a test tube.
Scientists place the early stage embryo into an adult female animal s womb where it slowly develops.
Later, this female animal gives birth

Why Negotiating For Freelancers Is Important
I started freelancing full time about 2 years ago with the misguided aspirations of living the good life .
You know, sauntering into coffee shops all lackadaisical like dropping beautiful prose while collecting
the big bucks. Then reality set in as I had to find a way to pay for rent, and all of my other unsexy
responsibilities. Being a freelancers is tough in the sense that you have to up your hustler skills, but
truthfully, I can t imagine myself going back to traditional employment, ever. The freedom is like
meth (or so I m told as I ve never tried it). That said, I had to hit my head against the wall to make a
name for myself and it wasn t easy. One of the biggest skills I learned to master was the art of
negotiation, which is what I want to share with you today. The reason why negotiating for freelancers
is so important is that as you gain more skills, you have to up your pricing to reflect that. One of my
first major negotiations happened when I negotiated a $2000 assignment to $3500. It wasn t as
difficult as you might think. Know your worth Truth is, society likes to make negotiation out to be this
big soul draining addair that only a few can achieve. It isn t. Negotiating is simply a business function
that is necessary in all industry in freelancing even more so. What makes it easier is when you know
your worth. If you re the baddest marketer in your city, own it. Confidence is a huge differentiator
when it comes to upping your pay. In my case, a client was

K3D210 How current theories of play can inform practice There are many theories into how children
develop and how they learn. These are extremely important as they can be applied to modern
strategies used for child behaviours. Presently, learning theories are placed into 3 categories:
Behaviourist approaches children learn as a result of what they see and what happens to them.
Constructivist approaches children learn actively rather than passively. Information processing
children learn cognitively. There have been many theorists who have opposing views on how and why

young children think quite differently from adults so therefore the teacher should adapt the teaching

So if you don t have enough people or time to perform adequate testing to begin with, adding
automation will not reduce software instability and errors. Since it is welldocumented that software
errors even a single one can cost millions more than your entire testing budget, the first priority should
be first to deliver reliable software. Once that is achieved, then focus on optimizing the time and costs.
In other words, if your software doesn t work, it doesn t matter how fast or cheap you deliver it.
Page 4 ļ¬ The Automated Testing Handbook
Automated delivers software tests provide three key benefits: cumulative coverage to detect errors
and reduce the cost of failure, repeatabililty to save time and reduce the cost to market, and leverage to
improve resource productivity. But realize that the test cycle will be tight to begin with, so don t count
on automation to shorten it count on it to help you meet the deadline with a reliable product. By
increasing your coverage and thus reducing the probability of failure, automation can help to avoid the
costs of support and rework, as well as potentially devastating costs. Cumulative coverage It is a fact

Comparing The Beautiful And Damned And The Last Tycoon
F. Scott Fitzgerald has always been considered one of the best writers of his time because of his style
of writing, but where does his inspiration for his tragic and fun books come from? Fitzgerald had a
hard life growing up which he was later able to use this to his advantage and in turn become a very
prominent figure of his time and future times to come. By examining his two books The Beautiful and
Damned and The Last Tycoon the reader will be able to see how this style of writing works best for
this writer. To start off, Fitzgerald does an excellent job portraying tragedy in his novel The Beautiful
and Damned by how he expresses his characters having no loyalty or honesty or anything relating to
these traits. A good example of this is when Gloria says If I wanted anything, I d take it...I can t be
bothered resisting things I want. This statement expresses that she is a very selfish individual and this
will in return come to haunt her in some form of a tragedy because of her inability to overcome her
selfishness. Likewise, in The Last Tycoon, Fitzgerald expresses his characters in a similar way. His
character Monroe Stahr is a conceited movie star, which in turn ... Show more content on

Pro Abortion (Anti Abortion Rebuttal) Essay
Pro Abortion
Abortion is defined as the expulsion of a fetus by a pregnant female before the normal end of a
pregnancy. Many times and in most cases, specifically in the article titled ABORTION by
Jimmyissmart on oppapers.com, abortion is seen as an act of violence and inhumane murder. It is
mainly for this reason why people who are anti abortion support their point of view. However, to
murder the victim must first be alive, but what is the meaning of life? According to dictionary.com life
is defined as the sum of the distinguishing phenomena of organisms, esp. metabolism, growth,
reproduction and adaptation to environment. Hence, a fetus can not be alive because it lacks the ability
to adapt to its environment, a fetus does not have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some cases women who abort pregnancies do it because at that specific moment in their life they
are just not ready for a baby but look forward to having one at a later date in their life. Surgery for one
is costly and secondly and most importantly once a sterilization of a female is complete it is highly
unlikely for this process to be reversed. In the case that a responsible female takes the proper
precautions by using a condom or taking a pill and still ends up with an unwanted pregnancy should
she drop out of school get a job at McDonalds work for minimum wage and raise a baby in poverty or
should she post pone her getting a baby get an education first then, when she is more capable to raise
and manage a happy and healthy baby do so?
Thirdly, Rape is a big excuse for people who are for abortion. Women who become pregnant through
rape and even incest rape suffer the most severe form of emotional tragedy. Should they still go
through with having that child even though they may be at a time in their life where a child may
completely destroy their life and also the fact that, that child will be the embodiment of that one
moment in their life that they try to forget? One of the underlying themes in Jimmyissmart s paper is
humanity. However, how ironic is

Success factors and risks Even though AB InBev is the largest beer producer in the world they are still

confident that the merger with MillerCoors will increase sales and efficiency in the long run because
they are issuing out long term debt to help finance the project. The next three years will be interesting
as the company prepares the budget to accommodate the extensive 1 billion dollar plus cost of the

A Research Study On Bpa
1). INTRODUCTION/ SPECIFIC AIMS, BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE.
Alexander Dianin was a Russian chemist who first compounded Bisphenol A, during the year 1891.
Bisphenol A is commonly referred to as BPA. Dianin was carrying out studies on phenol compounds
and synthesized BPA by condensing acetone with two equivalent parts of phenol. The A in BPA
denotes acetone in its composition. (1)
At first, the development of BPA was solely an academic exercise. Dianin was the chair of the
Chemistry Department / Imperial Medial Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. (2) Modern organic
chemistry was in its beginning phases and the potential benefits from combining organic compounds
were being envisioned. Reports of BPA synthesis was first published in Eastern European chemistry
journals and eventually appeared in Western journals. For decades, BPA was referred to only as:
Dianin s Compound. (3) By today s organic chemistry standards, BPA is a relatively simple molecule
and is easy to produce industrially. However, in 1891, BPA s synthesis was a remarkable discovery.
BPA s laboratory synthesis demonstrated that the simplest member of the ketone group, acetone, could
be combined with two molecules of phenol. The result was a previously nonexistent artificial
compound. (4) Contrary to inorganic chemistry, this was not single elements reacting to form a
relatively small compound; organic chemistry had the potential of combining many more compounds

The Theory Of Supply And Demand
When an individual wants a good or service they will go wherever they need to get that good or
service that they want. You never really think how it gets there or why there isn t any left. When you
go to the store to buy groceries and the price has went up you tend to get upset. Although, when they
go down you think to yourself that you better stock up. All of these changes occur because of demand
and supply. Demand and supply are the key components for the economy. Kirzner (2000) states in his
article: The theory of supply and demand is recognized almost universally as the first step toward
understanding how market prices are determined and the way in which these prices help shape
production and consumption decisions the decisions that make up not shapes the prices for production
and consumption of goods and services.
Demand
According to Moffatt Demand is the relationship between the quantity of a good or service consumers
will purchase and the price charged for that good . It is the want or need for a good or service to be
produced. The amount of a good at a certain price that an individual is willing to buy is called quantity
demand. Prices fluctuate for many reasons. When a price of a good or service goes up or down it is
called law of demand. If the price rises, the quantity demanded goes down. If the price goes down, the
quantity demanded goes up. This being that everything else is equal. Also known as ceterius paribus.

Women do most of the invisible work in Corporate America. If this work were made visible, men in
Corporate America would not receive all the glory for the jobs they have. As you see, educational

Women are beginning to see that the best way to get to the top of any type of business is to create their
own business. In women owned businesses today, the women seem to accept any business background
shortcomings and seek education and training before they take the leap. Women try to base their
decisions on logic and on sound business decisions. They do not seem to shoot from the hip the way
many men do in the business world. In corporations that have dared to hire today s businesswoman, it
seems these women officials are easier to work with in a consensus team building environment.
Women tend to offer higher wages to their employees and fight for better benefits for them as well.
Women know the need for flexible hours, childcare, and better insurance. All in all, it seems that
women understand the problems of their employees. They work hard to be number one and in turn
make their employees feel like they are number one to them.
In most corporations today, the glass ceiling goes unnoticed and certainly unquestioned. Corporations

Friendship Between George Washington And Marquis De Lafayette
Throughout history, friendships have formed amongst important leaders that in turn propelled history
into greatness. Starting in the Greek and Roman times, Roman Emperor Octavian with best friend and
defense minister Marcus Agrippa worked together to develop Rome into a major global power.
Similarly, the friendship between Meriwether Lewis and William Clark allowed for the exploration
and development of western America as it is formed now ( 10 of History s Greatest Bromances ,

Marquis de Lafayette. This powerful friendship allowed for the successful outcome of the American
Revolution by providing strong leadership and wisdom to American armies. This pair of generals
changed the course of history simply through their bond as friends. Marie Joseph Paul Yves Gilbert du

Lafayette s entire family had passed away and he was left an orphan but an orphan with a sizeable

establishments. Fewer than 5 workers are employed by 62 percent of trucking and warehousing
establishments. Consolidation in the industry has reduced the number of small, specialized firms.
Trucking and warehousing establishments are found throughout the United States. The differential in
growth between the freight industry and the trucking industry could be the factor that pushes trucking
vacancies. The trucking industry has a current growth rate of 1%, while the freight industry is seeing a
4% growth rate. In addition, federal safety regulations are limiting the work hours for truck drivers,
which results in more employees needed by trucking companies. The combination of all these things

How to choose eyeshadow?
Several ways to choose an eyeshadow exist. First, you can select an eyeshadow based on your skin
tone. (In fact, this is a way to choose your whole makeup palette.) If you go this route, select colors
that don t make you look washed out. Try a little color on the inside of your wrist. Neutral colors
flatter warmer skin tones, whereas silver, blue, or purple eyeshadows work better on cool skin tones.

consistency) that sets them apart, generally speaking. Eyeliner is painted around the lash line. Some
people prefer to wear it on only one lid (top or bottom), while others like to wear it on both.
Eyeshadow is mostly worn on the the upper lid and can extend from the lashes to the eyebrows.
Typically, shades in the darker palettes like deep purples, dark browns, rich burgundies, and the like
are placed in the crease of the lid as well as close to the edges and sometimes under the eyes. Lighter
tones work better up toward the brow bone.
Companies like Maybelline, L Oreal, and ColourPop all carry different types of eye

The Period Of The Edo Era
During the Tokugawa era Noh continued to be an aristocratic art form supported by the shogun, the
feudal aristocrats or daimyo, as well as several wealthy and more sophisticated commoners. While
kabuki and joruri, popular to the middle class, focused on new and experimental entertainment, Noh
strived to preserve its established high standards and historic authenticity and remained mostly
unchanged throughout the era. To capture the essence of performances given by great masters, every
detail in movements and positions is reproduced by others, generally resulting in an increasingly slow,
ceremonial tempo.
The fall of the Tokugawa shogunate in 1868 and the formation of a new government resulted in the
end of financial support for Noh, and the entire field experienced major, financial crisis. Shortly after
the Meiji Restoration, both the number of Noh performers and Noh stages greatly diminished for some
time.
The support from the imperial government was eventually regained due to Noh s appeal to foreign
diplomats. The companies that remained active throughout the Meiji era also significantly broadened
Noh s reach by catering to the public, performing at theatres in major cities such as Tokyo and Osaka.

Themes In The Golden Girls
The Golden Girls is an iconic television show set in 1980 s Miami that not only provides insight to
aging in America through humor, but sometimes lectures the viewer on social topics with an obvious
liberal agenda. Even though I have probably viewed every episode hundreds of times over the past
thirty years, I still find myself eager to watch it every night at bedtime to end the stresses of the day on
a happy note. I do not always agree with the opinions expressed by the characters or the outcome of a
particular episode. However, I still come back for more each night because most episodes end on a
happy note, and that allows me to drift into sleep with a little less stress on my mind. For seven
seasons, . . . the series won several awards during its run, including 11 Emmys and four Golden
Globes (MTSU). The creator of the show, Susan Harris, also created the 1970 s show called Soap.
Both shows were produced by Paul Junger Witt and Tony Thomas (Golden Girls: Miami Spice).
While I was very young during Soap s run on television, I have seen reruns of it a few times. It most
definitely has liberal agenda themes that are presented with humor like The Golden Girls. However, it
was presented in poor taste in its acting and storylines to present a message that could have been
construed as offensive to much of the audience back in the 1970 s. It is very rare to talk to someone
today that has even heard of Soap and it certainly has not reached cult like status

The Special Years ( 1907 And 1908 )
The Special Years (1907 and 1908)
Between having won a financially lucrative lawsuit against the owners of the Mineral Springs Hotel
and Bathhouse, plus getting paid for still working there, and now collecting a monthly pension,
Charles is able to purchase a lot and a half for $150 ($4,000 in 2017). He is undeniably enthusiastic as
he hires men to build the first house that he and Elizabeth have ever owned. And what a location. Near
the end of a dead end street, it is only a one block walk to church and a three block walk to work. As
August of 1907 arrives, the Okawville newspaper announces that Charles Lorne s new residence was

What a feeling of relief and of satisfaction when he receives word on December 5 that he has won

$96 ($2,500) a year is a significant increase in the income of Charles when the average worker only
makes $.22 an hour. (L141)
Charles and Elizabeth now have two more members in their family. Their first grandchild, Charlie
Koehler, is born in East St. Louis back in 1903 and their second and third grandchildren, Grace and
Irene Hall, are born in 1906 and 1907. Now, in 1908, they add two more grandchildren with the births

Charles is a member of the Okawville Post 582 in the Grand Army of the Republic. This is a fraternal

An American Portrait Photographer, Philippe Halsman
An American portrait photographer, Philippe Halsman, in the mid 1900 s once said, A true portrait

of human being he was. He provides a good point, as he gives his opinion that portraits are a
representation of an individual, to show the memory of their soul through artwork even if it s
photographs, paintings, drawings, or sculptures. Whether it is to remember the past or present,
portraits tell their own story in a moment of time through the frame of the artistic eye. Portraits consist
of many underlying layers that are exposed by the artist to mesmerize the viewer to the unique

For example, Yousuf Karsh characterizes Muhammad Ali (plate 1) through a powerful photograph, not
only as an individual but an American hero who shows power and strength. When looking at the
image the most apparent form is his face and the emotion that is being expressed. While Ali s head is
turned at forty five degrees, he remains to have eye contact with the viewers, which means he is not
afraid to show the world who he is and how he wants to be represented. Furthermore, the bold stance
of his fists carefully placed on his hips and his shoulders slightly forward exemplifies his fearlessness
and confidence that he has in himself and that many others who chant his name know him to be.
While Karsh identifies a more serious approach to a portrait that captures what Muhammad Ali stood
for, there are also more whimsical ways to apprehend the narration of a person. Gwenn Seemel is one
amazing artist that truly captures the essence of a person and makes them come alive on the canvas.
During the course of an hour long interview, Seemel takes hundreds of photos while her subject spills
his or her whole life s story. In a video about her artwork and the process that goes with it she states,
Portraits should not be a still thing. While portraits are often a two dimensional representation of an

wants to convey their personality. In a portrait of a young girl named Lily (plate

Music And Music Essay
For society music plays numerous roles in every individual s life whether that be from playing it,
singing, or even just listening to it, music effects everyone in some way and is used differently in
people s lives. Music can be used for art and self expression, amusement, relaxation, and leisure
according to Aristotle s reading From The Politics. Music has had many effects on society opening the
doors for creativity, inspiring the youth, and even educating. Artists construct songs that talk about
love, family, friendship s, politics, and life itself. Aristotle speaks on the usage of it and how it affects
the way we think and act under some circumstances. For me personally, music became a passion after
learning I can express myself in an environment where I can be comfortable. In the reading, Aristotle s
points are both practical and ideological as he makes a lot of points that can be made in today s time
while also giving his own opinion on a lot of subjects. There are many definitions for good music and
bad music that can potentially lead to good or bad mortality based upon the message in the song
especially if there are lyrics. When discussing music relating it to amusement, relaxation, and leisure,
Aristotle states that music is useful as a pastime in leisure, which is evidently the purpose for which
people actually introduce it (Aristotle Pg. 25). Aristotle uses leisure as an instance of coming from
work and using music as somewhat a pleasure. This point I

Women s Role In Ancient Civilizations
The environment had a large part in shaping early human history and civilizations. The peoples of the
Paleolithic era were generally hunter gatherer nomadic peoples that traveled out of Sub Saharan Africa
looking for better food supply and environments. The Neolithic Era gave rise to human settlement and
the beginning of human civilization. The first civilizations settled between the Tigris and Euphrates
rivers around the area that would later be called the Fertile Crescent because of its plentiful in cereal
crops, water, and animals that could be domesticated. A civilization such as Mesopotamia highlighted
the relationship between fertile lands and societies.

The Byzantine Empire ruled by Hammurabi did not see women as equal to men. Hammurabi s Codes
gave women some rights, but they were not completely equal to men. For example, one of the codes
allows a woman accused of cheating on her husband to merely swear she did not do it and go back
home. On the other hand a woman who is convicted of neglecting their husband may, if her husband
wishes, be forced to stay in his house as a servant while he is remarried.
Sparta, a militant society in Ancient Greece, allowed women more freedoms than any of the other
Greek city states. Women were able to educate themselves, have physical training, and own property.
But their general priority was to bear and birth more healthy Spartan males. The Muslim empire
allowed women to keep their property both before and after their marriage, and according to Islamic
scripture women were made at the same time as man, meaning that they are equal to a man. Women
could serve as leaders, warriors, and even generals. But the death of Muhammad and the continued
spread of Islam led to more conservative values and essentially the imbalanced treatment of women.
Through examining each of these civilizations, it can be inferred that pre modern civilizations
generally had varying ideas of what the role of women should be in

Steven Spielberg s Adaptation Of Amistad
In Steven Spielberg s adaptation of Amistad, a group of Africans were kidnapped from their home,
Sierra Leone, Africa, in 1839 and shipped to Havana, Cuba. The leader of the group named Cinque
Joseph, led a mutiny against the Spanish crew. The remaining Spaniards, Ruiz and Montes, claimed
they would steer the ship back to Africa, but arrived off the coast of the Northern state of Connecticut.
Cinque s group was arrested and charged with mutiny. Real estate lawyer named Roger Baldwin,
former President of the United States of America, John Quincy Adams, and a former slave Theodore
Joadson, aid the Africans in the landmark legal battle to liberate them. This case provided the
Abolitionist Movement, a lobby group created to fight slavery, with great publicity. The legal
significance of this case is that non slave Africans were kidnapped and illegally sold. The International
Slave Trade was outlawed by treaties by 1839. In Addition, it was illegal under the Spanish Law.

How Does Liesel Use Irony In The Book Thief
When one thinks of a thief, they think of sneaky men in black masks trying to steal a precious jewel.
However, in The Book Thief the thief is in fact not a man in a black mask but a girl. The definition of
a thief is someone who steals items of important value resulting in negative consequences for the
victim. Instead, in the novel, when the main character, Liesel, steals books, they have a positive effect
on the people that she stole it from and even the people she comes in contact with. This is why it is
ironic that the title of the novel is The Book Thief , because Liesel in a way isn t really a thief.

she stole weren t really stolen, but rather given to her in an indirect way. During Liesel s first days as a

The Nature Of Human Nature In George Eliot s Silas Marner
In George Eliot s Silas Marner there is no character who exemplifies the realism of human nature
more than Godfrey Cass. The very fabric of Godfrey s characterization begs for analysis. Through
Godfrey s actions, or lack of them, and the resulting consequences of his decisions, Silas Marner
becomes a novel that draws a discussion of what good naturedness means in regards to action versus
passivity. Godfrey s passivity is the driving force of the novel and in true Eliot fashion, it is his
passivity that makes him neither a victim, nor a villain, but puts him somewhere in between. Put forth
as a fine, open faced, good natured young man, Godfrey immediately contrasts his brother Dunstan, a
spiteful jeering fellow, who seemed to enjoy his drink the more when other people went dry (Eliot 23).
This automatically pits one against the other simply put, as good versus bad. Dunstan mocks him for
his nature, saying, I m so easy and good natured. You ll take any trouble for me, essentially throwing
Godfrey s most highly praised virtue back in his face and further cementing their previous
categorization (Eliot 25). Godfrey is held in high esteem after this initial introduction. Furthermore,
the condition of Godfrey Cass is one of whom had felt the keen point of sorrow or remorse and whom
thanks to their native human kindness even riot could never drive into brutality (Eliot 29). According
to his condition, Godfrey has weathered the conditions that have caused him sorrow and remorse,
rather than having caused the conditions in the first place. This sets up Godfrey s rationalization
behind his passivity, and allows for the notion that simply possessing a good nature is a good enough
excuse to leave his decisions to chance. Consequently, after leaving such decisions to chance, the
hesitating Godfrey finds that his own downfall unequivocally rests on his own shoulders (Eliot 26).
Godfrey s hesitating and passive nature is more prevalent in none other than his denial of his infant
daughter, Eppie. With the introduction of his secret wife and child, Molly and Eppie respectively,
Godfrey s good naturedness takes its greatest hit. While Godfrey Cass was taking draughts of
forgetfulness from the

Comparing John Cheeverā€™s The Swimmer and The...
Comparing John Cheever s The Swimmer and The Five Forty Eight
Two stories by John Cheever, The Swimmer and The Five Forty Eight (5 48), will be explored in
terms of how the characters, genre and point of view in these stories give rise to classic fiction.
The Swimmer is of a suburban man, Neddy Merrill, who decides to return home from work by
swimming eight miles through all of his neighbors pools along the way. At each pool he encounters a
former mistress, distant and unfriendly neighbours and other symbols of a bitter, frustrated life. To
Neddy, this is his epic day s journey. However, when he arrives home, his family has left him. The
swimmer has made it home; but too much has changed.
While 5 48 is about the protagonist, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Countless references to Ned s dependence on alcohol as a pick up , an affair with Shirley Adams and
in the end he loses everything his home, family and possessions; making Swimmer a poignant
masterpiece. Here, unlike 5 48 where the emphasis is on clear character development, Neddy recounts
his entire life in just a short time while swimming. Both stories are told in a third person, male point of
view narrative; Blake being followed, his relationships with his neighbours who are in 5 48, firing
Dent, while in Swimmer it is also similar as we discover how Neddy life has revolved.
Another significance is the way Cheever uses vivid details to add colour, variety to the plot and theme.
This is highlighted eloquently in both 5 48 (e.g. Mrs. Compton fleeting smile and then goes on to
explain why it is fleeting and his adverse relationship with her) and Swimmer (e.g. the naked
Hallorans and their dark water had depressed him even though they were friends , implying that Ned s
relationships were superficial).
While similarities are abound in both stories the way the main male characters are portrayed
accurately tell the themes of each story. Blake is shown to be the incorrigible character cheating on his
wife many times and preying on weak women and displaying contempt for those who merely broke
sumptuary laws (e.g Mr Watkins wearing his corduroy jacket ). Similarly Dent is the victim and she
triumphs by gaining revenge on Blake, when she forces him to the

These stereotypes were not just any kind of stereotype they were those pertaining to Asians in

Ask any person of Asian descent and many will concur that at one point, someone has asked them: Do

The stereotypes do not end there. Other films tend to expose Asians as nerds and overachievers. An

Another common stereotype is one strictly directed towards Asian women. The female character is

mysterious, and overtly sexual. A perfect example of this can be seen in films like The World of Suzie

Natural Language Processing ( Nlp )
CHAPTER1: INTRODUCTION
Natural Language Processing (NLP) deals with actual text element processing. The text element is
transformed into machine format by NLP. Artificial Intelligence (AI) uses information provided by the
NLP and applies a lot of maths to determine whether something is positive or negative. Several
methods exist to determine an author s view on a topic from natural language textual information.
Some form of machine learning approach is employed and which has varying degree of effectiveness.
One of the types of natural language processing is opinion mining which deals with tracking the mood
of the people regarding a particular product or topic. This software provides automatic extraction of
opinions, emotions and sentiments in text and also tracks attitudes and feelings on the web. People
express their views by writing blog posts, comments, reviews and tweets about all sorts of different
topics. Tracking products and brands and then determining whether they are viewed positively or
negatively can be done using web. The opinion mining has slightly different tasks and many names,
e.g. sentiment analysis, opinion extraction, sentiment mining, subjectivity analysis, affect analysis,
emotion analysis, review mining, etc.
However, they all come under the umbrella of sentiment analysis or opinion mining. Sentiment
classification, feature based sentiment classification and opinion summarization are few main fields of
research predominate in sentiment analysis.

themselves than do participants with higher self esteem. The former are also more likely than the latter
to believe that Facebook offers opportunities to connect with other people, to get support and

The Sistine Chapel and the Creation of Adam
The Sistine Chapel and the Creation of Adam Michelangelo(1475 1564)
The sistine Chapel and mainly the Creation of Adam fresco are treasures to the world of art,
Michelangelo the creator brought his discipline of sculpting into painting the frescoes and the human
silhouette. The story of the Sistine Chapel starts with the building itself, built in 1473 under the
supervision of Giovannino de Dolci. It is located in Vatican, Which is almost like the capital for
catholicism. Vatican being the home the pope and college of cardinals. The chapel being famous in

His first love being sculpting had to be put to the side for the project of the Sistine Chapel. He
reluctantly agreed to Paint the ceiling. This persuasion was a plot to discredit Michelangelo by artistic

mercurial rise to fame that they devised a plot intended to discredit and degrade the young artist.
(eyewitnesstohistory) .They were very wrong in their plan to destroy the young artist They were
convinced that the young sculptor, who had never attempted a fresco before, would inevitably fail
(eyewitnesstohistory).
Wet fresco is the most enduring medium for wall painting (Martin and Jacobus,2008) The Frescos that
Michelangelo chose to do are very highly influenced by sculpting and the human body. The nine
scenes in the ceiling s middle are all from bible stories. The scenes all depict stories from the book of
genesis, starting with the scene of god separating light from dark and ending with scenes from the
story of Noah. Foremost a sculptor Michelangelo uses his hands to almost carve the human figure out
of paint and lines. These distinct painting style of the renaissance with a jubilation and celebration of
the bodies painted, gives a proud sense of work. This proud sensation is perfect for the location in a
place of celebrating God.
The Fresco scene I chose to focus on is the one that might well

Human Story In Life Of Pi
Have you ever been stranded in the middle of the ocean with a 450 pound adult bengal tiger? Well
according to Pi Patel he has and survived nearly 300 days in that predicament. In the book Life of Pi,
Yann Martel s character Piscine Molitor Pi Patel survives a shipwreck and ends up on a lifeboat with a
variety of animals one of which being a bengal tiger. The story starts out with Pi telling the author he
can make him believe in God with his story. Throughout the story Pi tells a great tale of his
experiences on the lifeboat with the tiger but the only thing is that s exactly what it is, a tale. The real
story comes at the end of the book when two Japanese men question Pi about the sinking of the
Tsimtsum and Pi tells a different story because the men did not believe the animal one. The second
story has humans instead of animals therefore making it the more reasonable story. So the human story
is real because it is the more feasible option, being alone for a very extended amount of time can cause
a person to lose their sanity, and some of the things that Pi mentioned were a little far fetched.
The human story is the all around most reasonable story obviously. There is no way that Pi could
survive nearly 300 days with such a big predator. Also being on a lifeboat with very limited resources
it is clear that a bengal tiger would take advantage of Pi being there and kill him. Like stated in the
book animals do not think about what they are doing, I don t think about it.

John Cheever s Personal Connection to The Swimmer
Why do people read literature? The definition of literature is a writing of some sort in which
expression and form are characteristics or features of the writing. It can come in the form of poetry,
novels, biographies, or essays. There are a couple of main reasons people usually read literature.
People usually read for an escape from life, to learn something new, to confront human experience, or
simply for pleasure. One of the more popular of those four is to confront human experience. They use
what the author writes down and apply it to their daily life. Authors sometimes do that too. They write
down their own experiences to give the audience pleasure, or to realize that they shouldn t make the
same mistakes. When it comes to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reading his journals and then going back and re reading his stories, it became clear he had put
himself in the characters. They were all adults, full of darkness, corruption, and confusion. They were
all conflicted in their lives, going from happiness in the beginning to depression in the end (Cooke
39). Although John Cheever was not understood well, he had a knack for telling the brutal honesty of
suburbia life in America. Perhaps that is his lasting legacy.
Literary Analysis In a story, an author has the difficult task of telling a whole tale with compelling
emotion and a meaningful message. Many wonder how an author gets all of their ideas. One way an
author can get their ideas is through their own life. That is called parallelism. John Cheever is, again,
the master of this technique. Living in the suburbs, he always told a story of an adult with a dark story
to tell. The Swimmer is nothing different. In this short story, Neddy says he is going to swim home
from a neighbor s pool and encounters many demons during the sequence. The demons Neddy meets
on his way are another way of Cheever putting himself and his own demons in his work. Everyone
knows by now that Cheever had a problem with alcohol. He starts off in in the first paragraph with
everyone talking about how they drank too much, multiple times (1). This implies that Neddy was
drinking as well, for in

Summary of Porter s 5 Forces:
Porters five forces analysis provides important knowledge to Dennis Shaughnessy about the external
environment of following the joint venture. The provided external analysis should be used when
recommending the joint venture to the CEO and board of directors.
PESTEL Analysis
PESTEL analysis is widely used to better understand the external environment of the company. The
acronym PESTEL stands for political, economic, sociocultural, technological, environmental, and
legal factors. PESTEL analysis helps managers better understand the threats and opportunities a
company faces.
Political: The free trade agreement (NAFTA) was created to eliminate trade barriers and supplement
the growth of companies in North America. This is very beneficial to a US company like CRL when
agreeing to invest in a neighboring country like Mexico. CRL must also pay attention to the working
standards of Mexico. The US Department of Agriculture estimated four million illnesses and 3,000
deaths each year due to contamination of poultry. Working conditions in Mexico plants are
unacceptable to the US standards, therefore CRL must be careful in joining hands with ALPES, unless
they make significant changes in working conditions.

A Separate Peace Critical Analysis
The death of Caulfield s brother, Allie, clearly leaves a devastating effect on his life and acts as the
central cause of his mental illnesses. Allie died of leukemia at the age of eleven in his family s
summer home in Maine. Holden, thirteen at the time, leaves his comfortable life distraught over the
loss of his brother and brakes his hand punching the windows out of the garage of their home. He
misses Allie s funeral due to the fact that he was in the hospital for psychiatric evaluation, thus leading
one to believe some of his problems may have begun to manifest even before his death. One sees that

Both stories interpret the lives of adolescent boys journeying through their conflicts and inner
confusion to reach adulthood. Gene Forrester, a bright young student at the Devon School experiences
some of the same trauma and depression Holden goes through. Gene mentions that Exposing a sincere
emotion openly like that at the Devon School was the next thing to suicide (Knowles), allowing the
reader to see his eagerness to feel accepted and not alone. As professionals state, A mental illness can
make you miserable and can cause problems in your daily life, such as at school or work or in
relationships (Mayo Clinic Staff), which affects both Gene and Holden. His friend Phineas suffers a
tragic accident which leaves Gene traumatized and unable to comprehend the events of the accident,
as he recalls, ... But ever since then I ve had a feeling that the tree did it by itself... almost as though
the tree shook me out by itself (Knowles). The battle of Gene with himself and Holden with himself
creates the similar major conflicts between the novels. In this case, Holden suffers more in The
Catcher in the Rye because he struggles with a great depression and he constantly tries to escape his
feelings through drinking, sexual intimations, terrible attitude, and attempts of violence and suicide.
Likewise, Gene also turns violent due to the stress of his situation, as he explains, I hit him hard across
the face. I didn t know why for an instant; it was almost as though I were maimed (Knowles),
similarly like Holden s constant mentions of hurting others and his altercations with Stradlater and the
bellhop. He undergoes periods of extreme depression and sullenness in which he questions the
previous incident, saying, Nothing endures, not a tree, not love, not even a death by violence
(Knowles) and I spent as much time

What Do You Learn About Steinbeckā€šĆ„Ć“s View of Human Nature...
This essay is about how John Steinbeck represents human nature and the nice and unfavourable
qualities people had during the American depression in the 1930s where the story Of Mice and Men
took place. The story shows the way different people will react diversely to various situations. In this
case, living with the trouble of having to travel to faraway places to search for jobs. It shows how
some people can behave overly difficult while others can be calm, friendly and easy to live with. The
many characters in the story represent the many different combinations of worthy and unworthy
qualities but this essay shall concentrate on three characters Slim, Curley and Crooks.

Crooks is a very good representation of a victim of one of the worst qualities in humans racism. He
also represents how some people may react to such mistreatment. He shows how the cruelty to victims
can change them and cause them to feel lonely and sometimes angry in Crooks case. I can t play
because I m black. This shows how racist people exclude him from activities and such like just
because he is black in colour showing racial prejudice. Crooks also expresses the intolerance shown
towards him by other people when he says If I say something, why it s just a nigger sayin it. Another
example of the discrimination is when Candy compliments his room and crooks replies in the tone of
sarcasm, Sure, and a manure pile under the window. His living conditions also show the lack of
respect towards Crooks his bunk was a long box filled with hay. Although Crooks has to live in this
way, John Steinbeck writes how he takes it and gets on with it. He kept his distance and demanded
that other people kept theirs. Crooks also shows his loneliness Sometimes he gets thinkin , an he got
nothing to tell him what s so an what ain t so. This shows how he, unlike Lennie, has no one to talk to
or share thoughts with, no one to express his feelings to or ask a question.

Aristotle And Heidegger s Views On What A Human Or Beings...
Aristotle and Heidegger have conflicting views on what a human or beings are. Although, there are
some similarities to each of their set of ideas. Aristotle has a clear hierarchical framework classifying
the differences between humans, animals, and plants. Heidegger opposes this strict definitions by
discussing this idea of Dasein which states of being there. Although, their approaches to this topic are
different with the types of question one asks and how they theorize about what is a being. There is key
similarities that they discuss almost two thousand years apart. Aristotle and Heidegger are two
philosophers that have tackled the enormous question, what is it to be a being? This paper discusses
the two different approaches to defining this long standing question. Aristotle asks many what
questions when talking about what is a living being. He discusses us as a specific type of animals and
how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy when discussing the
differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled destructible mobile
substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can disintegrate when no soul is
in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul but not a rational soul compared
to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal is a living item that has perception.

I Want To Become An Immigrant
I am an Eritrean national who was born and grew up in Eritrea. My parents are from poor background.
I have five siblings (Two sisters and three brothers).
I started education at the age of five and continued till I graduated with a BA degree in Eritrea.
Unfortunately, due to well founded fear of persecution I escaped Eritrea to Sudan illegally. More
precisely, I refused to become a victim of the evil treatment by the regime in Eritrea. Saying even a
word against the government in Eritrea, however, is considered as a grave crime in the eyes of the
tyrant regime. Consequently, I was arrested, detained, interrogated and badly treated in prison.
Luckily, I escaped the country illegally to save my life using a narrow chance to run away.

Admittedly, the connotation of the word refugee in itself tortured me for years since I left my country.
My ambition to pursue higher education and prepare myself for advanced research has been damaged
because of my status as a refugee. When I came to the UK, I started to believe that hope contents me. I
applied for postgraduate studies at SOAS University of London to study a taught MA degree in the
course of Migration and Diaspora Studies as mentioned above. Besides, I also applied for refugee
scholarship. Thanks to SOAS university of London, I got admission to study and scholarship for the
course.
Following the admission process and offer of refugee scholarship, I found myself in a position where I
cannot afford accommodation and living costs in London. To be more explicit, I had to pay $5000 to
release my 17 years old sister from nasty human traffickers in the Sudan. This means I paid all the
money I saved for my accommodation and living cost working as a support worker to human
traffickers to release my sister. On the other hand, this was a threat to my lifelong ambitions of

Intro to Theatre
Assignment 1
2/15/17
Three Actors chosen in this assignment that have relevant theatre experience is; Idina Mentzel, Jane
Lynch and Chris Farley. I would like to begin with my favorite of the three. Indina Kim Mentzel. Idina
is a native born New Yorker from Syosset. She was born in 1971. During her early years in high
school Idina showed a huge interest in singing and performing. She performed in school plays and
also took on jobs like singing in Bar Mitzvah s and weddings because she was such a talented singer.
After high school Idina wanted to study theatre and attended New York University s Tisch School of
The Arts where she graduated with a BFA in 1993. Three years after Idina graduated from New York
University s Tisch School of The Arts she was casted for the role of Maureen Johnson a lesbian
performance artist who dealt with having AIDS in the Broadway hit Rent. Idina received a Tony
nomination for this role. She continued her career in theatre starring in Broadway shows like The Wild
Party and in 2003 she was cast in Wicked and played the role of Elphaba who eventually became the
wicked witch of the west. Defying gravity was a hit from Wicked that she sang, because of this role,
Idina won a Tony for best actress in a musical. I chose Idina Mentzel because of her superior acting

Game Theory Term Insurance Essay examples
Game Theory in Life Insurance
The insurance industry has long been applying game theory to evaluate whether or not individuals are
insurable and determine how much premium to charge them based on their apparent needs. This
interaction between the consumer and the insurance company can be characterized as a game because
not only are they playing against one another but each party is waging on an outcome more beneficial
to them. In a traditional life insurance, there are many variables to consider when utilizing game
theory to form a strategy as there are investment components along with complex riders. Thus, in
order to keep the game relatively simple, this paper will assume the insurance being considered is term

Instead, the presumed opponent is Mother Nature. Professor Marvin D. Troutt, who wrote the classic
work on game theoretical approaches to life insurance purchasing, explains how the potential
consumer is at odds with nature: there is the option of delaying the purchase for a number of years in
the future at the risk that Nature, or chance, will intervene and allow death (or insurability) to occur
before insurance begins (Troutt, 1988).
Using Troutt s model in a normal form matrix below, the buyer has two possible strategies (Insure and
Not Insure) while Mother Nature has two possible strategies (Live and Die). The payoff of the game is
the family s wealth at the end of the year. The payoff matrix looks like this:
Mother Nature
Strategy
Live
Die
Buyer
Insure
1, 0
1, 0
Not Insure
0, 0
1, 0
Figure 1
As the above table is dealing with one s life, it is safe to assume that the game is a one shot,
simultaneous game for the fact that this game is only going to happen once and that the decision of
each player is unknown from the other. In this scenario, the prospective buyer s best strategy (1, 0) for
this game is to Insure if Mother Nature chooses Die as highlighted above. This is ideal for the buyer
because this unfortunate incident will generate a payoff to benefit the family based on the face amount
purchased. Two of the

Hegemonic Masculinity Summary
R.W. Connell s (1995) concept of hegemonic masculinity is the most significant theoretical device for
understanding the masculinity hierarchy. Demetriou (2001) states how hegemonic masculinity
expresses two different social practices, from a social constructivist view. The first is that men benefit
from the patriarchal system of society. The second process is that there is an intramasculine hierarchy
by which the social order of men is created and maintained. Connell (1995) argues that this is the
reason for the societal gender order where not only do men uphold power over women, but also
certain men are dominant over other men. Demetriou (2001) criticises Connell s term of hegemonic
masculinity for being too broad, as the main focus is usually placed on the intramasculine process. He
therefore believes this process to be internal hegemony (ibid).
In terms of the intramasculine order , Connell argues that there is a specific type of masculinity that is
revered the most and holds dominance over all other. Men who most closely exemplify this archetype
are considered to hold the most social capital. In this model Connell states that gay men are at the
bottom of the order and straight men that embody certain characteristics sit atop the hierarchy. Connell
s model furthers Brannon s (1976) work. In this he suggests four rules by which men should follow.
Hence, in Connell s (1995) model homophobia is a significant factor in sitting at the top of the
hierarchy and

Valley Region of the Appalachian Mountains Essay example Valley Region of the Appalachian Mountains and Subsequent Karst Regions in the State of Virginia This map which appears on page 402 of Process Geomorphology (1995), written by Dale F. Ritter, Craig R. Kochel, and Jerry R. Miller, serves as the basis of my report on the formation of the Appalachian Mountains and its subsequent karst regions in along the Atlantic side of the United States particularly in the state of Virginia. The shaded areas represent generalized karst regions throughout the United States. The state of Virginia is divided into five major physiological regions based on similar landscapes and relatively static climates, each region being as diverse as the next. From the east to west they are respectively named, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Stanley, 349) However, it was not until the third episode, during Cenozoic era, that the conspicuous fold and thrust belt of the central and southern Appalachians formed as the result of the mid carboniferous collision of Euroamerica with Gondwanaland (Stanley, 372). At the point of impact between the Euroamerica and Gondwanaland plates, immense pressure turned igneous and sedimentary rock into metamorphic rock which proceeded to break in numerous places. The resulting fold and thrust belt were exceedingly susceptible to weathering and erosion by means of wind and water. Streams began to flow along weak layers that define the folds and faults and carved the resistant folded rocks of the mountain core creating karst geologic structures. The karst regions of Virginia exist today in a stillmountainous region is a zone of low temperature deformation called the Valley and Ridge Province (Stanley, 372). The Valley and Ridge Province is said the be the, most rugged area of the state as this region consists of both high peaks and low lying valleys extending from present day Virginia, to Maryland, and northwestward to West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and northern New Jersey. The ridges are composed of fairly resistant strata while the valleys depict erodable materials. Patterson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cons Of Human Cloning Introduction The topic of cloning has brought much debate in science and also in society. Many people believe that reproductive cloning would be beneficial while on the other hand, many people believe that it is too risky and unethical. Reproductive cloning has shown advantages and disadvantages to humanity, animals, and society. Through research and critical thinking, we will look at both the issues and the benefits that come with reproductive cloning. What is Cloning There are three different types of artificial cloning: gene cloning, reproductive cloning, and therapeutic cloning (Cloning Fact Sheet, 2017). Reproductive cloning is the process used when creating a copy of an animal or human. It can also occur in nature; which happens when mammals have identical twins. The application of somatic nuclear transfer technology to the creation of a human being that shares all of its nuclear genes with the person donating the implanted nucleus (Pros and Cons of Human Cloning, 2016). The process of reproductive cloning may seem relatively straightforward; however, there is a unique and rigorous process that goes into creating a clone. First, scientist remove a somatic cell from an animal that they wish to copy and then transfer the DNA from the cell into an egg cell. The egg then develops into an early stage embryo while still in a test tube. Scientists place the early stage embryo into an adult female animal s womb where it slowly develops. Later, this female animal gives birth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Why Negotiating For Freelancers Is Important I started freelancing full time about 2 years ago with the misguided aspirations of living the good life . You know, sauntering into coffee shops all lackadaisical like dropping beautiful prose while collecting the big bucks. Then reality set in as I had to find a way to pay for rent, and all of my other unsexy responsibilities. Being a freelancers is tough in the sense that you have to up your hustler skills, but truthfully, I can t imagine myself going back to traditional employment, ever. The freedom is like meth (or so I m told as I ve never tried it). That said, I had to hit my head against the wall to make a name for myself and it wasn t easy. One of the biggest skills I learned to master was the art of negotiation, which is what I want to share with you today. The reason why negotiating for freelancers is so important is that as you gain more skills, you have to up your pricing to reflect that. One of my first major negotiations happened when I negotiated a $2000 assignment to $3500. It wasn t as difficult as you might think. Know your worth Truth is, society likes to make negotiation out to be this big soul draining addair that only a few can achieve. It isn t. Negotiating is simply a business function that is necessary in all industry in freelancing even more so. What makes it easier is when you know your worth. If you re the baddest marketer in your city, own it. Confidence is a huge differentiator when it comes to upping your pay. In my case, a client was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These are extremely important as they can be applied to modern strategies used for child behaviours. Presently, learning theories are placed into 3 categories: Behaviourist approaches children learn as a result of what they see and what happens to them. Constructivist approaches children learn actively rather than passively. Information processing children learn cognitively. There have been many theorists who have opposing views on how and why children behave and how they learn. Children can now manipulate ideas, can speculate about the possible, can reason deductively and formulate and test hypothesis. Piaget developed a workable theory that has had considerable implications for education, most notably for child centred learning methods in nursery and infant schools. Piaget argued that young children think quite differently from adults so therefore the teacher should adapt the teaching methods to suit the child. For example, nursery school classrooms can provide children with play materials that encourage their learning. Using sets of toys that encourage the practice of sorting, grading and counting. Materials like water, sand, bricks and crayons that help children make their own constructions and create symbolic representations of objects and people in their lives. Since it is welldocumented that software errors even a single one can cost millions more than your entire testing budget, the first priority should be first to deliver reliable software. Once that is achieved, then focus on optimizing the time and costs. In other words, if your software doesn t work, it doesn t matter how fast or cheap you deliver it. Page 4 ļ¬ The Automated Testing Handbook Automated delivers software tests provide three key benefits: cumulative coverage to detect errors and reduce the cost of failure, repeatabililty to save time and reduce the cost to market, and leverage to improve resource productivity. But realize that the test cycle will be tight to begin with, so don t count on automation to shorten it count on it to help you meet the deadline with a reliable product. By increasing your coverage and thus reducing the probability of failure, automation can help to avoid the costs of support and rework, as well as potentially devastating costs. Cumulative coverage It is a fact that applications change and gain complexity over their useful life. As depicted in the figure below, the feature set of an application grows steadily over time. • 7. Comparing The Beautiful And Damned And The Last Tycoon F. Scott Fitzgerald has always been considered one of the best writers of his time because of his style of writing, but where does his inspiration for his tragic and fun books come from? Fitzgerald had a hard life growing up which he was later able to use this to his advantage and in turn become a very prominent figure of his time and future times to come. By examining his two books The Beautiful and Damned and The Last Tycoon the reader will be able to see how this style of writing works best for this writer. To start off, Fitzgerald does an excellent job portraying tragedy in his novel The Beautiful and Damned by how he expresses his characters having no loyalty or honesty or anything relating to these traits. A good example of this is when Gloria says If I wanted anything, I d take it...I can t be bothered resisting things I want. This statement expresses that she is a very selfish individual and this will in return come to haunt her in some form of a tragedy because of her inability to overcome her selfishness. Likewise, in The Last Tycoon, Fitzgerald expresses his characters in a similar way. His character Monroe Stahr is a conceited movie star, which in turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many times and in most cases, specifically in the article titled ABORTION by Jimmyissmart on oppapers.com, abortion is seen as an act of violence and inhumane murder. It is mainly for this reason why people who are anti abortion support their point of view. However, to murder the victim must first be alive, but what is the meaning of life? In some cases women who abort pregnancies do it because at that specific moment in their life they are just not ready for a baby but look forward to having one at a later date in their life. Surgery for one is costly and secondly and most importantly once a sterilization of a female is complete it is highly unlikely for this process to be reversed. In the case that a responsible female takes the proper precautions by using a condom or taking a pill and still ends up with an unwanted pregnancy should she drop out of school get a job at McDonalds work for minimum wage and raise a baby in poverty or should she post pone her getting a baby get an education first then, when she is more capable to raise and manage a happy and healthy baby do so? Thirdly, Rape is a big excuse for people who are for abortion. Women who become pregnant through rape and even incest rape suffer the most severe form of emotional tragedy. Should they still go through with having that child even though they may be at a time in their life where a child may completely destroy their life and also the fact that, that child will be the embodiment of that one moment in their life that they try to forget? This has lead management to pursue a merger agreement with MillerCoors, the second largest beer producer in the world. The resulting company will be a mega brewery, responsible for 30% of the world s beer production (Bray, 2016). Management seems to be confident that the merger with MillerCoors will increase sales and efficiency in the long run because they are issuing out long term debt to help finance the project. The next three years will be interesting as the company prepares the budget to accommodate the extensive 1 billion dollar plus cost of the merger (Mickle, 2016). Even after the merger is complete the return on the investment make take a few years to pipeline as best practices gained by the merger need to be evaluated and put into place. By contrasting the husband being a good husband and one who was nice with his family with him acting unusual by not wanting to talk about it and turning into the hateful one, Le Guin illustrates the husband acting secretive and not as open as he used to be with his wife. • 11. A Research Study On Bpa 1). INTRODUCTION/ SPECIFIC AIMS, BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE. Alexander Dianin was a Russian chemist who first compounded Bisphenol A, during the year 1891. Bisphenol A is commonly referred to as BPA. Dianin was carrying out studies on phenol compounds and synthesized BPA by condensing acetone with two equivalent parts of phenol. The A in BPA denotes acetone in its composition. (1) At first, the development of BPA was solely an academic exercise. Dianin was the chair of the Chemistry Department / Imperial Medial Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. (2) Modern organic chemistry was in its beginning phases and the potential benefits from combining organic compounds were being envisioned. Reports of BPA synthesis was first published in Eastern European chemistry journals and eventually appeared in Western journals. For decades, BPA was referred to only as: Dianin s Compound. (3) By today s organic chemistry standards, BPA is a relatively simple molecule and is easy to produce industrially. However, in 1891, BPA s synthesis was a remarkable discovery. BPA s laboratory synthesis demonstrated that the simplest member of the ketone group, acetone, could be combined with two molecules of phenol. The result was a previously nonexistent artificial compound. (4) Contrary to inorganic chemistry, this was not single elements reacting to form a relatively small compound; organic chemistry had the potential of combining many more compounds with seemingly unlimited potential of ... You never really think how it gets there or why there isn t any left. When you go to the store to buy groceries and the price has went up you tend to get upset. Although, when they go down you think to yourself that you better stock up. All of these changes occur because of demand and supply. Demand and supply are the key components for the economy. Kirzner (2000) states in his article: The theory of supply and demand is recognized almost universally as the first step toward understanding how market prices are determined and the way in which these prices help shape production and consumption decisions the decisions that make up not shapes the prices for production and consumption of goods and services. Demand According to Moffatt Demand is the relationship between the quantity of a good or service consumers will purchase and the price charged for that good . It is the want or need for a good or service to be produced. The amount of a good at a certain price that an individual is willing to buy is called quantity demand. Prices fluctuate for many reasons. When a price of a good or service goes up or down it is called law of demand. If the price rises, the quantity demanded goes down. If the price goes down, the quantity demanded goes up. • 33. How Does Liesel Use Irony In The Book Thief When one thinks of a thief, they think of sneaky men in black masks trying to steal a precious jewel. However, in The Book Thief the thief is in fact not a man in a black mask but a girl. The definition of a thief is someone who steals items of important value resulting in negative consequences for the victim. Instead, in the novel, when the main character, Liesel, steals books, they have a positive effect on the people that she stole it from and even the people she comes in contact with. This is why it is ironic that the title of the novel is The Book Thief , because Liesel in a way isn t really a thief. Liesel from now on starts stealing books; but is she really stealing them? Throughout the book, Death says that Liesel is stealing these books, but when examined closely, it seems as if some of the books she stole weren t really stolen, but rather given to her in an indirect way. During Liesel s first days as a Hubermann, she gets to meet Ilsa Hermann, the cold and distant wife of the mayor, who at this point in the book, appears to be another lazy privileged client of Rosa Hubermann, the hardworking, underprivileged service provider. However, as the book progresses the importance of Ilsa Hermann increases because of something she possesses. Books. Ilsa Hermann has a lot of them, so much that it attracted one girl. • 34. The Nature Of Human Nature In George Eliot s Silas Marner In George Eliot s Silas Marner there is no character who exemplifies the realism of human nature more than Godfrey Cass. The very fabric of Godfrey s characterization begs for analysis. Through Godfrey s actions, or lack of them, and the resulting consequences of his decisions, Silas Marner becomes a novel that draws a discussion of what good naturedness means in regards to action versus passivity. Godfrey s passivity is the driving force of the novel and in true Eliot fashion, it is his passivity that makes him neither a victim, nor a villain, but puts him somewhere in between. Put forth as a fine, open faced, good natured young man, Godfrey immediately contrasts his brother Dunstan, a spiteful jeering fellow, who seemed to enjoy his drink the more when other people went dry (Eliot 23). This automatically pits one against the other simply put, as good versus bad. Dunstan mocks him for his nature, saying, I m so easy and good natured. You ll take any trouble for me, essentially throwing Godfrey s most highly praised virtue back in his face and further cementing their previous categorization (Eliot 25). Godfrey is held in high esteem after this initial introduction. Furthermore, the condition of Godfrey Cass is one of whom had felt the keen point of sorrow or remorse and whom thanks to their native human kindness even riot could never drive into brutality (Eliot 29). According to his condition, Godfrey has weathered the conditions that have caused him sorrow and remorse, rather than having caused the conditions in the first place. This sets up Godfrey s rationalization behind his passivity, and allows for the notion that simply possessing a good nature is a good enough excuse to leave his decisions to chance. Consequently, after leaving such decisions to chance, the hesitating Godfrey finds that his own downfall unequivocally rests on his own shoulders (Eliot 26). Godfrey s hesitating and passive nature is more prevalent in none other than his denial of his infant daughter, Eppie. With the introduction of his secret wife and child, Molly and Eppie respectively, Godfrey s good naturedness takes its greatest hit. While Godfrey Cass was taking draughts of forgetfulness from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing John Cheever s The Swimmer and The Five Forty Eight Two stories by John Cheever, The Swimmer and The Five Forty Eight (5 48), will be explored in terms of how the characters, genre and point of view in these stories give rise to classic fiction. The Swimmer is of a suburban man, Neddy Merrill, who decides to return home from work by swimming eight miles through all of his neighbors pools along the way. At each pool he encounters a former mistress, distant and unfriendly neighbours and other symbols of a bitter, frustrated life. To Neddy, this is his epic day s journey. Here, unlike 5 48 where the emphasis is on clear character development, Neddy recounts his entire life in just a short time while swimming. Both stories are told in a third person, male point of view narrative; Blake being followed, his relationships with his neighbours who are in 5 48, firing Dent, while in Swimmer it is also similar as we discover how Neddy life has revolved. Another significance is the way Cheever uses vivid details to add colour, variety to the plot and theme. This is highlighted eloquently in both 5 48 (e.g. Mrs. Compton fleeting smile and then goes on to explain why it is fleeting and his adverse relationship with her) and Swimmer (e.g. the naked Hallorans and their dark water had depressed him even though they were friends , implying that Ned s relationships were superficial). While similarities are abound in both stories the way the main male characters are portrayed accurately tell the themes of each story. Blake is shown to be the incorrigible character cheating on his wife many times and preying on weak women and displaying contempt for those who merely broke sumptuary laws (e.g Mr Watkins wearing his corduroy jacket ). Similarly Dent is the victim and she triumphs by gaining revenge on Blake, when she forces him to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story starts out with Pi telling the author he can make him believe in God with his story. Throughout the story Pi tells a great tale of his experiences on the lifeboat with the tiger but the only thing is that s exactly what it is, a tale. The real story comes at the end of the book when two Japanese men question Pi about the sinking of the Tsimtsum and Pi tells a different story because the men did not believe the animal one. The second story has humans instead of animals therefore making it the more reasonable story. So the human story is real because it is the more feasible option, being alone for a very extended amount of time can cause a person to lose their sanity, and some of the things that Pi mentioned were a little far fetched. The human story is the all around most reasonable story obviously. There is no way that Pi could survive nearly 300 days with such a big predator. The definition of literature is a writing of some sort in which expression and form are characteristics or features of the writing. It can come in the form of poetry, novels, biographies, or essays. After reading his journals and then going back and re reading his stories, it became clear he had put himself in the characters. They were all adults, full of darkness, corruption, and confusion. Although John Cheever was not understood well, he had a knack for telling the brutal honesty of suburbia life in America. Perhaps that is his lasting legacy. Literary Analysis In a story, an author has the difficult task of telling a whole tale with compelling emotion and a meaningful message. Many wonder how an author gets all of their ideas. One way an author can get their ideas is through their own life. That is called parallelism. John Cheever is, again, the master of this technique. Living in the suburbs, he always told a story of an adult with a dark story to tell. The Swimmer is nothing different. In this short story, Neddy says he is going to swim home from a neighbor s pool and encounters many demons during the sequence. The demons Neddy meets on his way are another way of Cheever putting himself and his own demons in his work. Everyone knows by now that Cheever had a problem with alcohol. He starts off in in the first paragraph with everyone talking about how they drank too much, multiple times (1). This implies that Neddy was drinking as well, for in ... Using Troutt s model in a normal form matrix below, the buyer has two possible strategies (Insure and Not Insure) while Mother Nature has two possible strategies (Live and Die).
