Process Guidelines For Assisted Living Study
Rationale for identified target population The target population refers to the group(s) that the
proposed study is designed and intended to realistically serve. The application of the guidelines
is aimed at enhancing the credibility of the program establishment, and for which an effective
responses are not currently provided. Research and experience have indicated that 68% of
nearly 3.8 million retail establishments in the U.S. believe that they are overwhelmed by
regulations rules and mandates such as labor regulation, health care mandates, tax codes and
guideline (National Retail Federation (NRF). (2016). Hence, a strategic process guideline for
establishing assisted living programs will serve well the intended proprietors in this category. I aim
at providing strategic information process guidelines for establishing assisted living programs, the
target population include assisted living proprietors who desire to establish assisted living for low
level of care (levels 1), moderate level of care (Level 2) and high level of care (level 3). Level 1
includes assisted living program that accepts residents who require low level of care. Moderate
level of care programs accepts residents who require moderate level of care. High level of care
program accepts residents who require comprehensive support for any number of daily activities.
(State of Maryland (Comar 10.07.14.02), 2013). Moreover, those who desire to establish assisted

Welfare Reform For Drug Test Recipients Essay
Pretend you are in kindergarten again and you have just won your favorite bag of candy for
behaving yourself in class all week, and right when the teacher presents you with your glorious
prize a fellow classmate, which had already been to the principals twice that week, comes up and
asks for a piece. You do not want to give him a piece because you worked hard for it and he broke
the rules so he does not deserve it, but then he goes to complain to the teacher and she says you
have to share with him. Would you be upset if you worked hard to obey the rules to win a bag of
candy, and then you find out that you could have gotten a piece anyways? This is exactly how
many taxpayers feel about welfare recipients that refuse to take drug test prior to receiving their
welfare checks. Since 1996 there has been a call for welfare reform to drug test recipients prior to
admission, but any attempts have been unsuccessful because they are viewed as a violation of the
fourth amendment, more harmful for children, and an unnecessary expense. These common
fallacies have been the main arguments leading the anti drug testing campaign, but in the past few
years many taxpayers have grown increasingly tired of their money being given to undeserving
individuals, although there has not been a clear solution to please all parties. To begin, what is
welfare? Welfareinfo.org gives the history and current facts about welfare. Welfare is a government
funded program put in action during the great

Gross Domestic Product ( Gdp ) Of A Nation
Gross Domestic Product
Gross domestic product (GDP) of a nation is comprised of four primary components. These
components; consumption, investment, government spending and net exports are the measure of
the monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country s borders in
over a given period of time. This can be broken down in any time frame but is normally used
quarterly and annually. The GDP can be calculated as; GDP (Y) = consumption (C) + investment
(I) + government spending (G) + net exports (NX) or Y=C+I+G+NX. The key word here is
finished goods and not all goods.
Household consumption, one of the four components of calculating the GDP of a nation has a
broad range of items included in it. With the exception of the cost of buying a used house, most
all durable and nondurable goods are measured within this. The money a family spends on goods
and services include everything from haircuts to education. Durable goods would be vehicles
for transportation and all of the items that one buys to furnish a home. Items big and small
regardless of brand or cost are factored in this component. If one was to buy and new set of
appliances for a kitchen and a broom to sweep the floor, they are both used in this calculation. If
one was to save this money for a while longer it would make the overall GDP lower than if the
items were purchased. Education is often thought of as an investment in ones future but it is
considered consumption by means of an

Cultural Differences Between Australia And The United States
Upon deploying military assets to any country, there must be an understanding of the operational
variables, such as the host nations populations appeal to having said force occupy their territory and
understanding how it will factor into achieving those goals in order to meet the mission
requirements. Australiaand the United States(U.S.) have had a long standing robust relationship
supported by shared democratic values, common interests, and cultural similarities. Both countries
have now shared diplomatic relations for 78 years, proving to be one of our longest standing allies
behind the French (U.S. Department of State, 2017). Australia has shared dual responsibility with
the U.S. through mutual combat support in every major conflict... Show more content on

Queen Elizabeth the II is the head of state and federal governments, a government that identifies
itself as a constitutional monarch (Australian Government, 2016). The federal government is
comprised of three branches: an executive branch with Queen Elizabeth II as the Chief of State; a
legislative branch consisting of the Senate and House of Representatives; and a judicial branch that
upholds the English common law (Australian Government, 2016). Much like the US, each
individual state can make new laws, however federal law supersedes any state laws. As of 2017,
there are seven self governing Australian territories. These territories include Ashmore, the Cartier

Edgar Allan Poe Mood
Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe, famous for his interesting and intriguing works, was born on January 19, 1809.
As a child, his parents divorced and his mother took his siblings and him with her. Sadly, after
the divorce, his mother passed away from Tuberculosis, and Poe s family was divided up again.
His siblings went to live with different people and Poe was taken in by the Allan couple. He was
given a good education but his new stepfather did not like him. Edgar Allan Poe joined the army at
eighteen years old and is loving stepmother, Mrs. Allan, passed away, also from Tuberculosis.
Later on, Mr. Allan helped Poe go to West Point but did not give him enough money. Poe got
expelled from the school. Later on, he moved in with his relatives, ... Show more content on

It is a negative mood, and typically a tense one. In the short story, the Masque of the Red death ,
this of course, is another reading including death. For example, the story says, THE Red Death
had long devastated the country. Once again, talking about death and devastation brings about
negative feelings and a depressing fell. The end of the story reads, a sad, negative atmosphere.
In the story, The Fall of the House of Usher , Mr. Usher s wife was supposed to be dead, but later
in the story she was thought not to be and Mr. Usher started panicking because he realized that
she was not dead. That was when Madeline Usher burst through the door and scared Mr.
Roderick Usher so bad that he died. The story says, For a moment she remained trembling and
reeling to and fro upon the threshold, then, with a low moaning cry, fell heavily inward upon the
person of her brother, and in her violent and now final death agonies, bore him to the floor a
corpse, and a victim to the terrors he had anticipated. This is telling how Roderick Usher died in
the end. After reading this, the reader feels nervous and anxious because death is not a subject
that usually makes people comfortable. The story, a bit longer than some of Poe s other works,
The Pit and the Pendulum is about a person in jail. It is not a common jail as some might think.
This prison was made to torture people and give them pain. During this story, the reader was tied
up and a pendulum with a blade started to swing back and forth and began to come closer and
closer to the person. At the last minute, he was able to become free, thanks to a couple rats.
Apparently he was being watched because shortly after he escaped the almost certain death, the
cell started to get hot and the walls around him began to close, pushing him closer and closer to a
large pit. At the last minute, he was rescued but death was almost certain in the story until he was
saved. The reading says,

Essay On Static Members
Week Five Learning Journal The Ongoing Emphasis on Static Members Static, static, static; but
what does all this static mean? Re occuringly, our reading material conveys the idea of static
members. During the course of chapter five, I develop a keen understanding on how to use static
members, say variables and methods. Building static variables and methods means building class
members that hold the same values through all instances. No matter how many instances of a class
I instantiate, static members will retain the same value. This is useful for global placement of data.
Building non static variables and methods means building class members that are unique to each
instance of the class you create. Create a backbone class, which lays... Show more content on

Chapter five teaches me to instantiate variables of references of objects with the new keyword,
before trying to use my variable. How I Can Use Null Pointer Wisdom in My Own Programming
at Home Moreover, many programmers, like me, have their development cycle haulted when
the SDK or 3DEngine crashes, and all the console says is null pointer exception. From reading
chapter five, I can tell you this exception is thrown when an object referenced variable was not
instantiated. This error is simple to fix, takes initializing the troubled variable with the new
keyword and constructor of its referenced object class, and there we go. Months of questioning
and advice seeking on SDK forums can be bypassed with chapter five, when all you really need
to do is identify which variable on the call stack is causing the null pointer reference. Identify
which object reference it should have, and initialize it with the new keyword and class
constructor. Arrays of Type Object I like writing in depth learning journals, because looking
back on learning journals point out material I find especially interesting. Arrays of type object
are handy when you ve created an object class, and need to spawn an array of them. In video
game programming, often it s useful to create a bullet object, or a character object, or a
background object. Knowing Java creates array of objects help programmers rapidly spawn
multiple types of their objects. Java is one of my favorite programming

The Rene Bridging By Garcia Summary
As the title the renegade, or a confused mind suggested, the first thing needed to understand is
what his confusion is. The beginning of the story reveals his source of confusion and
foreshadows the main theme of the story to find order and seek unity for his senseless life:
What a muddle, what a muddle! I must put my head in order. Since they cut out my tongue,
another tongue, I don t know, goes on wagging inside my skull, something is talking or someone,
who suddenly shuts up and then begins all over again oh I hear too many things I m not saying,
what a muddle, and if I open my mouth it s like the noise of rattling pebbles. Some order, any
orders, says the tongue, and it talks of other things at the same time, yes I always yearned for...

However, when explaining the reason he want to kill the missionary, instead of directly stating
it, the renegade parallels the act of killing the missionary with the act of killing the father: ...kill
the father, that s what one had to do, but no danger that he would throw himself into missionary
work since he died long ago, the acidic wine finally ate holes in his stomach, so all that s left is
to kill the missionary. (28) In Catholicism, another name for the missionary is also father. He
considers the Catholicism he used to believe in as father, the one who brings security, happiness,
and order to his life. Killing the father would mean the renegade decides to leave that protection
and grow into a real man to find new orders and unity for himself. However, the renegade doesn t
grow and find unity within him, instead, he simply converting to a new religion to seek order
for his life. In other word, the renegade simply just find a new father instead of growing. This
dependency on external ideology instead of the strong belief from himself leads to the destruction
of his new form of life. Even when his order and unity are destructed again, he still seeks external
help instead of internal examination: Leave behind that face of hatred, begged now, we were
mistaken, we shall begin again, yes, help me, that s it, hold out your hand, give... (47) As expected,
the renegade failed. His journey

Essay On Cognition Enhancers
A common trend on college campuses is the use of performance enhancing drugs for both
academic and athletic motives. Most college students know of someone who abuses one of these
drugs with the most common being cognition enhancers like Adderall and Ritalin. (Greely 2008)
These medications are only available legally by prescription, therefore students are illegally
dealing to each other for the buying and selling of these drugs. Their purpose for using is to have
an advantage over their peers, despite these dealings being crimes in the United States.
Hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD, is what these prescriptions are intended for but in a
healthy student the drugs are used to stay up late, focus on their studies, enhance cognitive... Show

(Ragan 2013) With Adderall being the most common drug misused, its purpose is not only too get
high or lose weight, but to gain academic advantages with help in concentrating and studying. As
the demands in schooling increase, there is a prevalent increase in the need for cognition enhancers
to gain an advantage in the academic setting. Cognition enhancers used by healthy students is
mainly focused in the academic side of college campuses. However, they are also abused in other
competitive settings such as athletics. Athletes use drugs like Adderall to battle their fatigue when
playing in games and during practices. This illegal act can lead to athletes being suspended, losing
scholarships, and being fined. Many times, in masculine sports, the use of performance enhancing
drugs can be more expected in male athletes. These athletes rely on their athletic performance as a
sense of identity and feel more pressured to accomplish their athletic goals. Nonmedical use of
Adderall was seen highest in wrestling and lacrosse which are masculine sports that have high
expectations. Females had no particular sport associated with the use of Adderall. This shows a link
between higher contact sports and the nonmedical use of Adderall. (Veliz 2015) Athletes don t just
use cognition enhancers on the field, but many student athletes take the medications after games or
practices to be

Is English Native Speakers Use A Greater Number Of...
Discussion
The results of the analysis suggest that English native speakers use a greater number of singular
self mention in linguistics research articles than scholars affiliated with Ukrainian universities, who
avoid using them completely and rely on plural forms. This confirms the previous findings that
primarily plural self mention is employed in academic writing in Slavic languages (Vassileva,
1998), and that academic texts in English by native speakers show the greatest use of singular
forms in comparison to other languages (Flottum, 2005; Molino, 2010; Vassileva, 1998; Wu Zhu,
2014; Yakhontova, 2002; 2006). It can be assumed that, in American academic culture, scholars
tend to establish their presence in the articles and show that research has been carried out
exclusively by them and that the method and interpretations of findings are based on their own
judgement. This way they might acknowledge the fact that although research should be an
objective presentation of reality, it is still subjective because it is interpreted and documented by a
researcher. In addition, since Americans are representatives of an individualistic culture, they might
be willing to identify their personal contributions to the discourse.
In contrast, Ukrainians writing in Ukrainian seem to distance or even remove themselves from the
texts by using impersonal forms and plural self mention. Also, plural self mention is only expressed
through verb inflections, which means that Ukrainians do not

The International Criminal Court Of The United States
The International Criminal Court try to not to have history repeat itself
The International Criminal Court also known as the (ICC) are a group of judges who investigates
and prosecutes individuals that are guilty of crimes such as genocide, war crimes and crimes
against humanity and only intervenes when a state cannot intervene or is unwilling to intervene or
is an international concern (Understanding the International Criminal Court). Many inhumane
corruptions were committed in the past such as the Holocaust and many individual have gone

Though there are many countries that are apart of the ICC, a fair question is what sparked the
need for such a powerful court? Because even though the ICC is doing their best not to repeat the
mistake of have crimes go unpunished there are situation such as the United States refusing to join
the organization and has immunity from being prosecuted that makes the court look unfair and re
enforces the idea that that the powerful are untouchable. Another case would be that the ICC has
been heavily criticized for being prone to prosecute cases only in Africa, which raises the question
why do they prosecute countries that are not wealthy and ignore the corruption in wealthy
countries. These small questions can make one consider if there really is a need for an
international criminal court. However what one fails to understand is there is a need for an
international court. In this paper I will be discussing exactly what was the cause of such a powerful
court, why the United State has continuously refuse to join the ICC and had immunity before
official leaving and finally why does it seem like the ICC is prosecuting countries that are not
wealthy such as countries in Africa and ignore the corruption in wealthy countries.

Evil In Lord Of The Flies
The novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding presents and defends a theme that human nature
is essential evil, and that a person removed from society will be allowed to let their evil instincts
to manifest themselves as the person becomes increasingly savage. The book itself is 208 pages.
The topics that will be covered are a summary, type of chronology used, evaluation of character
development, type of conflicts, themes, writer s styles, and personal opinions. It is divided up
into three sections. The first section is when the boys arrive on the island and everything seems to
be perfect. The next section of the book is when the dead parachutist s lands on the island and all

The kids continue to act savage like until end of the book. It is obvious that this conclusion is
not a concession to readers who require a happy ending only an idiot will suppose that the book
ends happily (231, Peter). The kids still are killing and torturing each other and no order is
brought to the island until the naval officer arrives. Jack and others disassemble into their own
group. Jacks group beats Ralph and his last few followers one night while asleep and they steal
Piggy s glasses. Then when they go to get Piggy s glasses back Piggy gets murdered. The rock
struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee...Piggy fell forty feet and landed on his back
across that square red rock in the sea. His head opened and stuff came out and turned red (167).
The kids do not stop here; Jack is constantly having kids tortured. This shows how far away they
are from their old standard and expectations in society. The boys completely overdo it when they
try to kill Ralph. They know he is not the beast, but a human and they still try to violently murder
him. Ralph is saved when he comes into sight with the naval officer. The kids realized what had
become of them when they saw the naval officer. With the appearance of the naval officer the
bloodthirsty hunters are instantly reduced to a group of painted urchins led by a little boy who
wore the remains of an extraordinary black cap (232, Peter). The boys had gone from a society
with high expectations and quickly lost them after being on the island and this disappointed the
naval officer. When the destruction is complete, Mr. Golding suddenly restores the external
scene to us, not the paradise world of the marooned boys, but our world. The naval officer
speaks, we realize with horror, our words, the kid needed a bath, a hair cut, a nose wipe and a good
deal of ointment (239, Gregor). This shows how far from the societies norms the kids were. The

The Issue Of Child Onset Schizophrenia Essay
SOWK 506 Fall 2015
Assignment #3: Child Onset Schizophrenia Becki Kennedy and Mary Marrone
USC School of Social Work December 11, 2015
Martha Lyon Levine
Introduction This research paper focuses on the issue of child onset schizophrenia, specifically
looking at the prognosis, symptoms, stigma, and most effective treatment options for children. This
topic has become a significant social issue as a result of the recent mass school shootings
throughout the nation and the associated stigma. Severe mental illnesses, especially schizophrenia,
are being severely impacted by stigma. Society today views schizophrenia as dangerous ,
furthering this stigma. Further, little research has been done of childhood onset schizophrenia
(Hollis, 2003). However, research has shown that individuals with an earlier onset or diagnosis
experience more persistent and debilitating symptoms than those with an older age of onset
(Findling Schulz, 2005). Along with a higher occurrence of more severe symptoms, child onset
schizophrenia is a complicated issue because children are being prescribed psychotropic
medications at an early age during a period of critical brain development (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley,
2014). This greatly affects development and exposes children to very severe side effects of the
medication, resulting in a lot of patients refusing medication and the treatment they deserve.
As social workers, it is important to look at different behavioral

What Does The Poem Represent The Hardship Of Child Labor...
Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience represent the hardship of child labor during the mid
1800 s. The two stories are about chimney sweepers who have an awful life. The comparison of
emotions and situations for the two boys in Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience shows
their hope, religion, and the way their stories end. In Songs of Innocence the chimney sweeper
had an overall positive outlook on life but has a bittersweet ending. The boy had a dream showing
him that eventually one day he will be with all his friends enjoying a happy life and no misery. The
chimney sweeper describes his vision, of all his friends in coffins of black and an angel came by to
free them ( L. 11 14 ). This quote shows that one day he will be able to be back with all his passed

The boy has no religious connection with church or God of any kind, and he seems to blame

that should have been expected was that Queen Elizabeth would have an impacted on the society
that she gave her name to. The one thing that wasn t expected however was the extent to which
Queen Elizabeth would influence fashion. Queen Elizabeth was passionate about fashion and
she spread her love for it through out the kingdom. One of Queen Elizabeth s talents was her
ability to use any situation to her political advantage (Boucher 17). She wanted to be seen as a

Medieval Social Hierarchy
In the Middle Ages the church had its own social hierarchy structure in the Feudal system. This is
very important because the church is considered the most powerful in the Feudal system. The
church dominated everyone s life. All the people in the Middle Ages believed that there was a God,
Heaven and Hell. Since the beginning of Christianitythey were taught the only way to get to
Heaven is if the church let them. The medieval church constituted a kind of second social system,
sharing governmental authority with the feudal hierarchy and occasionally coming in conflict with
secular lords (Singman). The social hierarchy set up in the Middle Agesof the church consists of the

The Middle Ages, drawing on ancient Roman jurisprudence, recognized three sources of law:
nature, God, man. All law was understood to be based on one or all of these (Knox). Nature,
also known as Natural Law is law that governs the behavior of natural things. Natural Law came
from the belief that human morality comes from nature. According to Knox, these were more so
principles that guided judgement than laws. Divine Law are laws and principles made by God
and pertained to Christians. These are laws and principles God made to govern human beings,
who cannot govern themselves. Divine Law is centered in the churches justice system and plays a
big role with canon law. Canon law, body of laws made within certain Christian churches by lawful
ecclesiastical authority for the government of both the whole church and parts thereof and of the
behavior and actions of individuals (Ladislas). All priests and most clergy men were covered by
canon law. According to Ladislas, the function of canon law in liturgy, preaching, and social
activities involves the development and maintenance of those institutions that are considered to be
most serviceable for the personal life and faith of members of the church and for their devotion in
the world. The Church had its own law traditions, but sometimes turned the criminals over to the
state for punishment. They were mostly turned over for major and minor stuff like

Alice In Wonderland Loss Of Identity
When one s identity is lost, the happiest place is one of which is the most familiar to us. In
Lewis Carroll s Alice in Wonderland, Alice is having a history lesson before she decides to
follow a rabbit down a rabbit hole. Inside the rabbit hole, Alice is unable to sustain a sense of
herself (insecurity) which contributes to the reader seeing her lost of object of desire (objet petit
a) in the form of images standing in for the womb (female imagery). As a result, Alice goes
through regression, which is a return to previous psychological state. Carroll uses the rabbit hole
scene to show Alice regressing as she searches for her identity within society, ultimately suggesting,

Tiziano Titian Research Paper
Titian (Tiziano Vecellio) was born in Pieve di Cadore, a small town at the foot of the Dolomites
on the Venetian side of the Alps. The Vecellio s had been based in Cadore since the 14th century.
Titian s father, Gregorio, was a military man. His older brother Francesco was also a painter.
There is still no documentary evidence of Titian s exact date of birth, but contemporary sources
and his early stylistic development suggest that he was born around 1490. Titian was a painter
who painted famous paintings of religious beliefs such as Sacred and Profane Love and Venus of
Urbino which were lost in fire but are safe on the internet. Titian trained under two other seminal

This mythology inspired work was just one of several commissioned by Alfonso I d Este, duke
of Ferrara. Titian managed to cultivate a broad range of royal patrons during his career,

was a mecca for many of the community s artistic types. He had an especially close friendship
with writer Pietro Aretino. Aretino is said to have helped Titian get some of his commissions.
Sculptor and architect Jacopo Sansovino was another frequent visitor. Over the years, Titian
created portraits of leading figures of the day. He painted two works featuring Pope Paul III
between 1545 and 46, and spent six months living at the Vatican while making these paintings. In
1548, he traveled to the court of Charles V, where he painted his portrait as well. In his later
career, Titian focused more on religious and mythological works. For Spain s Philip II, he painted
Venus and Adonis (c. 1554), a piece inspired by Ovid s Metamorphoses that shows the goddess
Venus trying in vain to hold on to her beloved Adonis. Titian again explored his fascination with
the Roman goddess of love in Venus and the Lute Player

Compare And Contrast The Truman Show And Animal Farm
The Truman Show , directed by Peter Weir and Animal Farm , written by George Orwell both
explore the ideas of the good life, how the main characters of both texts have a lack of the good
life. Control, the animals and Truman being controlled without them knowing it. Freedom, and how
the main characters do not have a great deal of it. These views have been displayed in both The
Truman Showand Animal Farm. These ideas are presented through the characters and events
throughout both texts, they are used in different ways, yet mainly turn out to be not very good
things.
The good life, the life one would like to live, does not always turn out the way one would wish it
to. Look at that sunset, Truman. It s perfect . In the opinion of everyone, Truman s life is perfect.
Seahaven was built for Truman to live the good life, the life that everyone desired. In the eyes of
Truman, his opinions are different. Seahaven was built for him, in the eyes of someone else s
idea of a good life, not his own. Truman wants to go to Fiji and be with Sylvia, his idea of the
good life is different to what he currently lives. Likewise to Truman wanting the good life, the
animals desire the good life. They come together as animals, working together and agreeing to the
seven commandments to build the life they all would like to live, all of them being equal. All
animals are equal . Despite wanting to have equality, they do not reach their goal of equality as
along the way the commandment changes.

Why Did Barbarians Convert To Christianity Research Paper
Why did the barbarians convert to Christianity?
The barbaric people of the medieval period went through a change due to their Christianisation but
how did this come about? The barbaric people spread through the Roman Empire, after its collapse
they moved through the empire taking their pagan beliefs with them. From the impact of every day
necessities such as language and culture to the impact of leaders and kings I will look at pin
pointing the causes of the Christianisation of Germanic people and why they were convinced by
this new faith. First it must be noted that throughout this essay I will be using barbarian and
Germanic interchangeably to describe the people in question.
Christian culture becoming more accessible in the day to day life of barbarians influenced their
conversion to Christianity. Pagan groups in conquered Christian, or post Roman, territories were
surrounded by influence from Christian people. The majority of the population became servants to
the barbarians, these servants kept their traditions and culture and ... Show more content on

Christianity at this time was closely linked with cultural connections. If a group of Christians
declared that their success in battle or harvest was due to the intervention of their God, Then
pagans, in times of misfortune, may be more susceptible to praying to the Christian God due to
their desperateness. The barbaric ages are known for the regressive changes on society from the
prosperous Roman Empire to what came to be known as the Dark Ages. The Roman Empire was
famously a Christianised place, the legacy of its sophisticated architecture, politics and even
literacy were all superior to that of the barbarians. Such consumer orientated society was often
linked to their faith, suggesting if the barbarians Christianised then they too could live lavish

essentially lead him to view his life in a different light, realizing he had gained more than lost
what he once had. When conflict arises in our life, it is how we respond to events that can shape
the course of our life. For Deborah Kreiman, a woman living in Los Angeles, when faced with
the inconceivable loss of her five children, it was essentially the way she dealt with the tragedy
that prevented the conflict in her life from reaching to a point that she could not deal with.
Kreiman strengthed her religious beliefs and focused on other aspects of her life that would bring
her happiness. She did not allow her life to be dictated by the course events that she endured and
the restrictions on her happiness. Kreiman understood that by using her pain as a mechanism for
self growth and refinement, it would lead her to gaining fulfilment and avoid the prolonged
suffering. We can allow restrictions in our life to determine the road ahead of us, many turn to

Persuasive Essay On Parents
There are many forms of parenting and as a parent myself, I am faced daily with decisions
regarding my children. It s my beliefs and decision that should affect how I chose to parent them.
However, in today s society how much slack are we as parents really given? We are sometimes
forced into making parental decisions solely based on state laws and regulations. Parents are being
held legally responsible for declining medical decisions regarding their children. Parentare also
being intimidated by medical professionals for choosing not to vaccinate their children. Judges are
ruling against legally fit parents for seeking second options. Parents should not be fighting the court
system for medical rights. Nor should parents feel bullied by the government system. They should
have the right to choose how they parent. There are many different parentingstyles, who gets to
dictate which is right? Not every family is the same, so why should the government be allowed to
decide these rights and responsibilities. No two families share the same beliefs and religions.
Parenting should not be a one size fits all. Parents should have the right to make medical and
educational decisions for their children without government interference unless there is proof of
neglect or abuse, because parents ultimately have their children best interest at heart. From the
moment your child is born, they are immediately given a series of routine test, ointments, vaccines
that unless its optional by the state you have no say in. Texas law requires health care providers
apply antibiotic eye ointment to all newborns within two hours of birth. Antibiotic eye ointment is
routinely been given to newborns. It s used to prevent neonatal conjunctivitis and complications
such as blindness that can be contracted through the birth canal of untreated gonorrhea or
chlamydia mothers. Refusing to comply is a Class B misdemeanor. Like any treatment, it comes
with side effects. These can be minimal but can cause redness, itching, stinging, or burning of the
eye after applying the eye ointments to newborns. (Erythromycin Ophthalmic) Some may argue the
risk of side effects is worth not having a newborn with serious complications like blindness. It s a

using a woman who personifies a fairy, Secret manages to connect the new brand of Secret Violet

The Importance Of Technology On Human Interaction And...
Up until about twenty or thirty years ago, no one really knew what technology was or how to
use a cell phone, tablet, or computer. The iPhone was not even invented until ten years ago, but
today, technology plays a role in almost every aspect of every person s life. It is just about
impossible to go a day without seeing or using some piece of technology. The extensive amount of
technology available today has really influenced the world and how people live. Unfortunately, that
influence is not entirely positive; it has hindered human interaction and communicationby making
people socially awkward, creating relationship issues, and limiting people s abilities to understand
and use the written language. Because technology hinders human interaction and communication,
people should limit their technological use.
First, the more recent generations of children are growing up with technology available
everywhere, so they are learning from a very young age what technology is and how to use it.
Instead of playing outside with other kids in their neighborhood like their parents did growing
up, most children today play video games on a gaming console, laptop, tablet, or cell phone. This
is isolating children from the real world and inhibiting their ability to learn how to communicate
with others. They are not learning to understand various social clues or even how to have a
conversation face to face, and because of this, most kids may feel anxious or overwhelmed when
they face a social

Analysis Of The Lovely Bones By Alice Sebold
It s fun to have fun, but you have to know how (Seuss 1957). Growing up, reading was one of my
way favorite ways of having fun. In preschool, I was that lonely kid in the back of the class who
would only talk to the teachers. My only friend was my older brother by two years, Peter. We
were inseparable. We did everything together. When he started reading, I tried to begin reading
because I was jealous that he was able to do something so different and mystifying. I did not
actually understand those jumbles of letters until my last year of preschool, but I still cherish the
days my brother would read me Dr. Seuss books.
My elementary school years consisted of a lot of reading. At my elementary school, we had the AR
wall. If you read books and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It kept me constantly wondering the whole time. So many thoughts and questions were running
through my mind all at once. The Lovely Bones is about Susie Salmon, a fourteen year old girl,
who was violently murdered, watching her family struggle through, and eventually come to
terms with, the tragedy of her death. Sebold paints a picture of Susie s heaven by describing the
surrounding buildings as ...large, squat buildings spread out on dismally landscaped sandy lots,
with overhangs and open spaces to make them feel more modern (Sebold 16). Susie is telling
her story from her afterlife, so Sebold creates imagery to place the reader in Susie s perspective.
Sebold also uses a variety of figurative language. One example is My parents were like
sleepwalkers saying yes to his questions, nodding their heads to flowers or speakers (Sebold 98).
Sebold uses this simile to describe how lifeless Susie s parents feel as they are preparing for her
funeral. The use of figurative language brings more emotion to the reader because they can clearly
imagine themselves in that exact scene. The main theme in this book is that bad things will
happen to the most innocent of us, but we will eventually accept it and move on. At the end, this
is evident in Susie saying, These were the lovely bones that had grown around my absence: the
connections sometimes tenuous, sometimes made at great cost, but often magnificent that
happened after I was gone. And I began to see things in a way that let me hold the world without
me in it (Sebold 320). Watching the connections between her loved ones grow on earth without
her allows her to accept her death and move on from the human world. She recognizes that these
new relationships, stemming from the tragedy of her death, represent that love and hope are still
alive in her family. This just goes to show that we all need people to lean on in our darkest days.

Liberal Election Victory Of 1906 Essay
The Reasons for the Liberal Election Victory of 1906
The Liberal election victory of 1906 was due to key issues that the Liberals manipulated to their
favour whereas the exhausted Conservatives barely defended their actions. This election victory
was on the back of Unionist dominance that had spanned a decade driven by three key issues: the
crown, the church and the constitution. After the Second Boer Warin South Africa, everything
began to go wrong for the Unionists who then found their own leader, Balfour, losing his seat in his
own constituency of Blackpool.
The key areas of victory are the Tory blunders and the Liberal successes. The decline of the
Unionists seemed to begin after the 1900 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The public would now see the Unionist government as not being able to cope with the situation in
South Africa and therefore they would think that they wouldn t be able to cope with the situation at
home.
Combined with this was the strength of the Liberal party. In these difficult times, the Liberals
readily attacked the Unionists and it appeared to the British public that they had the moral high
ground. It was Campbell Bannerman and Lloyd George especially who attacked the Unionists
on every issue that they were weak on and the Boer War was a good example of this. They were
excellent campaigners and orators. Lloyd George, as it can be seen on the video, was good at
rallying crowds and was good at gaining supports in key areas such as Lincolnshire and London,
where their votes increased dramatically up to 15%. The Liberals were very well organized.
Instead of trying to get a huge majority in already Liberal strongholds they expanded out to areas
where they were weaker. The British public would be able to see the strength of the Liberal
candidates compared to the lackluster Unionist candidates and this would perhaps persuade them
to vote for the Liberals ahead of the Unionists. This upped their overall average and this was
therefore a major factor for their victory.
Another key area where the Tories were weak was the economy.

Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury was a dreamer. Bradbury had a skill at putting his dreams onto paper, and into

Shortly after his marriage to Marguerite Susan McClure in 1947,
Bradbury s first book, Dark Carnival, was published by Arkham House. About this time, the idea

The subjects that engage Bradbury s pen are many: magic, horror, and monsters; rockets, robots,
time and space travel; growing up in the Midwest town in the 1920 s, and growing old in an

Despite their themes, his stories contain a sense of wonder, often a sense of joy, and a lyrical and

ANT COLONY OPTIMIZATION Ant colony optimization (ACO) is an evolutionary and adaptive
algorithm that was introduced by Marco Dorigo in 1992.This ant colony optimization algorithm is
inspired by behavior of real ant colonies. The ant when searching food move in random
direction.Once the ant finds the food source,it evaluates the quantity and quality of food.It takes
certain amount of food to the nest.During this process, the ant deposits a chemical called
pheromone as a trail on the ground during the return path. The quantity of pheromone deposited is
based on the quantity and quality of the food available.HEnce this would guide other ants towards
the food providing an indirect communication. The pheromone trails allows the ants to identify the
shortest path between the ant nest and the food source. This above technique is used for optimization

The Importance Of Looking At The Sky
For thousands of years now, people have been observing the sky and the universe. Most would
assume that this did not happen until the Renaissance period, from the 14th to the 17th century,
when in fact it started much earlier than that. We can thank many of the Greeks for this matter,
such as Aristotle for an example. The main reasons for the use of looking at the sky was obvious
in many cases, the two main reasons were for traveling and farming. It was essential for surviving
to know the seasons for crops and to tell what kind of weather was to come before going places.
One person who played a huge role in astronomy and science was Galileo Galilei. Galileo had
paved the way for many modern day scientists and innovations. This man had devoted his entire
life to his findings and to better educate the public. In the poem The Old Astronomer to His
Pupil, it was said by Sarah Williams, I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night,
and this perfectly explains the relationship Galileo had with astronomy. With all the struggles that
Galileo went through he could have stopped believing in what he did, yet he never did. His ideas
were revolutionary in science and the world.
Galileo Galilei was born on February 15th in the year 1564 in Pisa, Italy. This period of time was
right in the middle of the Renaissance era. Galilei was the first born of six children to a famous
musician and scholar by the name of Vincenzo Galilei and Giulia degli Ammannati. His family

Privacy: This issue began as an internal invasion of privacy but became a greater problem as the
email went viral :
Susan McKay (chief executive of the National Women s Council), the decision of some newspapers
and websites to publish the photographs was a further invasion of the women s privacy .
Many of the women involved were extremely upset as to the conduct of their colleagues.
Transparency and Accountability Demands: After an internal investigation into the events in
question it was discovered that the men responsible for the email scandal were of senior level in the
Assets Management division. PWC must now decide on what disciplinary action to take, if any.
Technological issues:
Internet based electronic commerce applications constitute a significant departure from traditional
information technologies, posing more risks to the organization because of their extensive direct
electronic interaction with other entities (De and Mathew, 1999). In particular, an email system
introduces a new set of threats and legal issues to an organization and the dramatic increase in email
usage is commensurate with the rising number of workplace incidents and disputes (Hancock,
1999; Attaran, 2000; PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2002; Simmers, 2002; American Management

The Pros and Cons of Ethanol Essay
A large part of the alternative fuels boom has been a part of civilization for thousands of years:
ethanol. The same substance that makes alcoholic beverages intoxicating is also a useful fuel.
Ethanol s potential as a motor fuel has been known since the first internal combustion engines
were made; The Ford Model T was able to run on gasoline, ethanol or any mix of the two
(Bettelheim 802). As the use of automobiles grew from the 1900 s to the 1920 s, it was found that
petroleum was a cheaper fuel source than ethanol (Bettelheim 802). Ethanol was mixed with
gasoline to improve the fuel s octane rating until the 1920 s, when oil companies stopped using it
because fear of being labeled as bootleggers. Ethanol had a brief resurgence... Show more content

The 2007 Energy Act also adds a requirement that a portion of the RFS is met with biofuels other
than ethanol from corn starch. The amount mandated for 2006 is four billion gallons of corn
ethanol, and this will gradually expand to thirty six billion gallons in 2022, of which twenty one
billion gallons must be from sources other than corn starch (19). To provide a basis for
comparison, in 2004 about 136 billion gallons of gasoline were consumed in the US and about
two billion gallons of ethanol (Yacobucci 8). Ethanol is mainly consumed in two forms in the
US. Most ethanol sold in the US is in a mix of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline called E10
(Yacobucci 8). Any car is able to run on this, and it is currently being sold in much of the
country. The ethanol works as an additive to help the gasoline burn more cleanly, improves
performance, and provides energy as a fuel. The other less common form is E85, which contains
85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Modern cars must be specially designed to run on E85. Many
newer models of cars are designed as such, and these are called flex fuel vehicles. There are two
common methods to make ethanol from corn (Rendleman 6). They mostly differ in the way that
the corn is prepared. The first step is to grind the corn. In wet milling, the starch containing kernels
of corn are separated from the other parts before grinding, since the starch is the only part of the
corn that will convert to ethanol

Eassy On Smoking
1.0Introduction
Tobacco is a major contributor to deaths from chronic diseases . Tobacco is the world s single
most avoidable cause of death and illness. By the end of the twentieth century, cigarettes killed
approximately five million people annually worldwide and tobacco is expected to take the lives of
nearly one half of the world s 1.1 billion current users. It is predicted that during the first quarter
century, the number of smokers will increase by a half billion, and the number of annual tobacco
related deaths will more than triple to 10 million, with developing countries suffering the greatest
impact. The annual death toll is projected to increase several fold in low income countries by the
year 2020, and Pakistan is no exception. Although the Government of Pakistan in 1997 identified
smoking as one of the leading causes of mortality, it remains one of the most serious public health
challenges.
Smoking is strongly associated with age, which may suggest social tolerance to smoking in this
setting and that social and educational variables appear to play a significant role in smoking among
universities students. According to research universities and college students on tobacco use,
indicated that more than half of the students used a tobacco product. Nowadays the prevalence of
smoking continues to increase especially among the younger age students. Tobacco smokingis a
major risk factor for non communicable diseases such as ischemic heart disease, stroke, chronic

Essay Cloning Madness
Cloning Madness
Cloning, a topic that has recently caused mayhem all over the world, is possible, but will it be here
to stay? The astonishing news that scientists had cloned a sheep a couple of years ago sent people
into panic at the thought that humans might be next. Cloning is a radical challenge to the most
fundamental laws of biology, so it s not unreasonable to be concerned that it might threaten human
society and dignity (Macklin 64). Since most of the opposition is coming from the pure disgust of
actually being able to clone species, it makes it difficult for people to get away from the emotional
side of the issue and analyze the major implications cloning would have for society. To better
understand this controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Society should not rush to make up its mind about cloning; it should wait and see if the good
outweighs the bad. It is obvious that cloning raises many serious issues that will be hotly debated
all over the world.
Scientists Urge Senators Not to Rush to Ban Human Cloning by Gina Kolata, is another interesting
article that lets us see what the politicians are doing concerning the cloning issue. The article
discusses how scientists and ethicists urged congress not to ban research on the cloning of human
beings because society might rush to the wrong decision.
There is no immediate crisis...since...methods...would need to be made more efficient before they
could be tried on humans. Cloning research holds glittering promises for medicine, and many
scientists fear that a hastily enacted ban might inadvertently halt research that could cure disease
and save lives. ...Society should not lose the opportunity to develop new treatments based on
cloning techniques. (Kolata)
The scientists in this article bring up many good points. This article made me wonder, would
society be protecting itself from future cures to disease, as well as the possibility of many lives
being saved? I agree with the scientists in saying that we should wait until enough evidence is
available to see if cloning will be beneficial or detrimental in our society.

Obligations, Reasons, And The Will By Ruth Chang Essay
In Commitments, Reasons, and the Will, Ruth Chang argues that there are special reasons for
actions produced within committed relationships which do not arise in other relationships, and that
the commitment itself gives these reasons their normative force (75). In contrast, in Autonomy and
the Authority of Personal Commitments: From Internal Coherence to Social Normativity Joel
Anderson objects that views which emphasize volitions fail to adequately explain the normative
failure of one who acts contrary to their commitments (94). First, this paper will explicate Chang s
argument for voluntarist reasons, and, second, it will examine Anderson s objection and his social
normativity proposal. I will argue that Chang fails to establish why volitional reasons are necessary
to explain the normativity of commitments, and, furthermore, that Anderson s account is more
plausible.
Chang regards commitments as exercises of our normative powers, whereby we will reasons into
existence for ourselves (75). She focuses on commitments made to friends, family, and romantic
partners, and those made to oneself in terms of projects. These differ from other types of
commitments, such as promises, since the obligation to keep a promise exists only because promises
invite others to develop expectations (76). The commitments Chang discusses create internal
obligations rather than moral obligations because, according to her, they need not cause
expectations in others (although they often

The Veil By Jean Dubois
For DuBois, the veil refers to three things. First, the veil suggests to the darker skin of Blacks,
which is a physical difference from whiteness. Secondly, the veil suggests white people s lack of
clarity to see Blacks as true Americans. And lastly, the veil refers to Blacks lack of clarity to see
themselves outside of what white America describes and provides for them. Dubois believes that
socially present day African American has had at least two life altering experiences in life. The
moment they realized they was Black, and the moment when African Americans realize their
blackness is a problem. Dubois realized his blackness being a problem For DuBois, these
realizations came during a ball, at which he was peremptorily ... Show more content on

DuBois describes this phenomena as double consciousness , which is the awareness of the two
ness of being an American and an African American] , and the largely unconscious, almost
instinctive movement between the these two identities, as needed. Martin Luther King even
spoke of the two Americans in his speech The Other America One America is beautiful for
situation. In this America, millions of people have the milk of prosperity and the honey of
equality flowing before them. This America is the habitat of millions of people who have food
and material necessities for their bodies, culture and education for their minds, freedom and
human dignity for their spirits. This America MLK speaks of is the privileged white America.
He goes on to explain the other America in which the African Americans live such a dark and
gloomy place. This other America has a daily ugliness about it that transforms the buoyancy of
hope into the fatigue of despair. In this other America, thousands and thousands of people, men in
particular walk the streets in search for jobs that do not exist. In this other America, millions of
people are forced to live in vermin filled, distressing housing conditions where they do not have
the privilege of having wall to wall carpeting, but all too often, they end up with wall to wall rats
and roaches. This is the veil Dubois is talking about others can

Reflection For My Personal Assignment
My theme for my second final piece follows on from my last theme of colour. This piece also
expresses personality through the use of colour, however, I moved away from using colour to
form the portraits and decided to make the background of my final piece to focus on colour and
pattern. I want to create a sense of how my personality is like just by the sight of my drawing
and background. Originally, my idea began with the thought of creating two different pieces.
The message I wanted to convey with this was to show the growth of my personality from then
till now. The first piece idea consisted of a portrait drawing of me as a young child while the
background the background would be either patterns or random painting techniques. The pattern
determined how my personality was like as a young child (for example, a structured background
with repeated pattern shows a confident and determined personality while random mark
makings reflect a creative or angry personality). I wanted this drawing to have smooth pencil
strokes to create a pure and soft look to represent my young age. For my second drawing of me
in my represent state, I wanted the pencil strokes (used to create the drawing) more rough such
as cross hatching strokes technique. The cross hatches will be a representation of me being
more confident in myself as well as how the idea of who I am has developed to this age.The
background for the first drawing applies to the second one also. During the process of my
research, I decided to focus on creating one final piece. The final piece would be my idea of
using drawing myself from a young age that I was and then doing a background pattern following
the design idea I previously mentioned. Throughout this second part of this project, I researched
on mark making drawing techniques from artists such as Rembrandt and Da Vinci. Rembrandt s
marks of his drawing overlap each other many times. Rembrandt focus on using his marks to create
form and tones, while Da Vinci s mark makings are more structured and technical due to his
engineering experience. Davinci s marks mainly arranged in a diagonal order. In addition to mark
making, I researched on drawing techniques used to drawing children with. From that

Animal Lab Report
The purpose of this lab is to examine the internal organ systems of vertebrate that has similar
internal organ systems of a human. Additionally to be able to identify where organs of the
digestion, circulatory, and respiratory systems are located in a rat and their function according to
the rat s anatomy.
One is able to use rats as a specimen to study human anatomy, as the organs found in a rat such as
the heart, lungs, and the stomach, are also found in the human body. Furthermore, it has been
proved that humans has approximately 99% of the same DNA as rodents especially mice
(Speaking of research, 2016). Due to the similarly in DNA, rodents of any species become an
excellent model to see how a human body works internally.

For an example, Norway rats prefer to eat foods high in protein such as pet food and meat scraps,
while Roof rats prefer fruits (Rat s diet, n.d.). Other similarity between the species in their diet is
their desire to eat sugar and foods high in amounts of sugar. A difference between humans and
rats is the number of chromosomes they have. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, while rats
have 21 pairs of chromosome as evolution occurs faster in rats than they do in humans (Spencer,
2012). Additionally, rats can become the host for the tapeworm Taenia taeniaformis while humans
cannot. The Taenia taeniaformis causes the crystal formation in the rat s liver resulting in it
becoming enlarged. Another disease only rats can get is chronic progressive nephrosis. Chronic
progressive nephrosis involves the inflammation of blood vessels in the rat s kidney. The disease
is more commonly found in older male rats. A rat may get the disease through gender, genetics,
and by salutary factors such as protein content and total calorie intake in their diet (Quesenberry et
al., 2011) A similarity between the two species is the common diseases/disorders they can get such
as hypertension, cataracts, obesity and deafness (Melina, 2010). Finally, a vital difference between
humans and rats are body positions they natural use. A rat is a quadruped meaning they move on

  • 2. Process Guidelines For Assisted Living Study Rationale for identified target population The target population refers to the group(s) that the proposed study is designed and intended to realistically serve. The application of the guidelines is aimed at enhancing the credibility of the program establishment, and for which an effective responses are not currently provided. Research and experience have indicated that 68% of nearly 3.8 million retail establishments in the U.S. believe that they are overwhelmed by regulations rules and mandates such as labor regulation, health care mandates, tax codes and guideline (National Retail Federation (NRF). (2016). Hence, a strategic process guideline for establishing assisted living programs will serve well the intended proprietors in this category. I aim at providing strategic information process guidelines for establishing assisted living programs, the target population include assisted living proprietors who desire to establish assisted living for low level of care (levels 1), moderate level of care (Level 2) and high level of care (level 3). • 3. Welfare Reform For Drug Test Recipients Essay Pretend you are in kindergarten again and you have just won your favorite bag of candy for behaving yourself in class all week, and right when the teacher presents you with your glorious prize a fellow classmate, which had already been to the principals twice that week, comes up and asks for a piece. You do not want to give him a piece because you worked hard for it and he broke the rules so he does not deserve it, but then he goes to complain to the teacher and she says you have to share with him. Would you be upset if you worked hard to obey the rules to win a bag of candy, and then you find out that you could have gotten a piece anyways? This is exactly how many taxpayers feel about welfare recipients that refuse to take drug test prior to receiving their welfare checks. Since 1996 there has been a call for welfare reform to drug test recipients prior to admission, but any attempts have been unsuccessful because they are viewed as a violation of the fourth amendment, more harmful for children, and an unnecessary expense. These common fallacies have been the main arguments leading the anti drug testing campaign, but in the past few years many taxpayers have grown increasingly tired of their money being given to undeserving individuals, although there has not been a clear solution to please all parties. To begin, what is welfare? Welfareinfo.org gives the history and current facts about welfare. Welfare is a government funded program put in action during the great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gross Domestic Product ( Gdp ) Of A Nation Gross Domestic Product Gross domestic product (GDP) of a nation is comprised of four primary components. These components; consumption, investment, government spending and net exports are the measure of the monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country s borders in over a given period of time. This can be broken down in any time frame but is normally used quarterly and annually. The GDP can be calculated as; GDP (Y) = consumption (C) + investment (I) + government spending (G) + net exports (NX) or Y=C+I+G+NX. The key word here is finished goods and not all goods. Household consumption, one of the four components of calculating the GDP of a nation has a broad range of items included in it. With the exception of the cost of buying a used house, most all durable and nondurable goods are measured within this. The money a family spends on goods and services include everything from haircuts to education. Durable goods would be vehicles for transportation and all of the items that one buys to furnish a home. Items big and small regardless of brand or cost are factored in this component. If one was to buy and new set of appliances for a kitchen and a broom to sweep the floor, they are both used in this calculation. If one was to save this money for a while longer it would make the overall GDP lower than if the items were purchased. Education is often thought of as an investment in ones future but it is considered consumption by means of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cultural Differences Between Australia And The United States Upon deploying military assets to any country, there must be an understanding of the operational variables, such as the host nations populations appeal to having said force occupy their territory and understanding how it will factor into achieving those goals in order to meet the mission requirements. Australiaand the United States(U.S.) have had a long standing robust relationship supported by shared democratic values, common interests, and cultural similarities. Both countries have now shared diplomatic relations for 78 years, proving to be one of our longest standing allies behind the French (U.S. Department of State, 2017). Queen Elizabeth the II is the head of state and federal governments, a government that identifies itself as a constitutional monarch (Australian Government, 2016). The federal government is comprised of three branches: an executive branch with Queen Elizabeth II as the Chief of State; a legislative branch consisting of the Senate and House of Representatives; and a judicial branch that upholds the English common law (Australian Government, 2016). Much like the US, each individual state can make new laws, however federal law supersedes any state laws. As of 2017, there are seven self governing Australian territories. • 7. Edgar Allan Poe Mood Edgar Allan Poe Edgar Allan Poe, famous for his interesting and intriguing works, was born on January 19, 1809. As a child, his parents divorced and his mother took his siblings and him with her. Sadly, after the divorce, his mother passed away from Tuberculosis, and Poe s family was divided up again. His siblings went to live with different people and Poe was taken in by the Allan couple. He was given a good education but his new stepfather did not like him. Edgar Allan Poe joined the army at eighteen years old and is loving stepmother, Mrs. Allan, passed away, also from Tuberculosis. For example, the story says, THE Red Death had long devastated the country. Once again, talking about death and devastation brings about negative feelings and a depressing fell. The end of the story reads, a sad, negative atmosphere. In the story, The Fall of the House of Usher , Mr. Usher s wife was supposed to be dead, but later in the story she was thought not to be and Mr. Usher started panicking because he realized that she was not dead. That was when Madeline Usher burst through the door and scared Mr. Roderick Usher so bad that he died. The story says, For a moment she remained trembling and reeling to and fro upon the threshold, then, with a low moaning cry, fell heavily inward upon the person of her brother, and in her violent and now final death agonies, bore him to the floor a corpse, and a victim to the terrors he had anticipated. This is telling how Roderick Usher died in the end. After reading this, the reader feels nervous and anxious because death is not a subject that usually makes people comfortable. The story, a bit longer than some of Poe s other works, The Pit and the Pendulum is about a person in jail. It is not a common jail as some might think. This prison was made to torture people and give them pain. During this story, the reader was tied up and a pendulum with a blade started to swing back and forth and began to come closer and closer to the person. At the last minute, he was able to become free, thanks to a couple rats. Apparently he was being watched because shortly after he escaped the almost certain death, the cell started to get hot and the walls around him began to close, pushing him closer and closer to a large pit. At the last minute, he was rescued but death was almost certain in the story until he was saved. The reading says, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay On Static Members Week Five Learning Journal The Ongoing Emphasis on Static Members Static, static, static; but what does all this static mean? Re occuringly, our reading material conveys the idea of static members. During the course of chapter five, I develop a keen understanding on how to use static members, say variables and methods. Building static variables and methods means building class members that hold the same values through all instances. No matter how many instances of a class I instantiate, static members will retain the same value. This is useful for global placement of data. Building non static variables and methods means building class members that are unique to each instance of the class you create. Create a backbone class, which lays... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter five teaches me to instantiate variables of references of objects with the new keyword, before trying to use my variable. How I Can Use Null Pointer Wisdom in My Own Programming at Home Moreover, many programmers, like me, have their development cycle haulted when the SDK or 3DEngine crashes, and all the console says is null pointer exception. From reading chapter five, I can tell you this exception is thrown when an object referenced variable was not instantiated. This error is simple to fix, takes initializing the troubled variable with the new keyword and constructor of its referenced object class, and there we go. Months of questioning and advice seeking on SDK forums can be bypassed with chapter five, when all you really need to do is identify which variable on the call stack is causing the null pointer reference. Identify which object reference it should have, and initialize it with the new keyword and class constructor. Arrays of Type Object I like writing in depth learning journals, because looking back on learning journals point out material I find especially interesting. Arrays of type object are handy when you ve created an object class, and need to spawn an array of them. In video game programming, often it s useful to create a bullet object, or a character object, or a background object. Knowing Java creates array of objects help programmers rapidly spawn multiple types of their objects. Java is one of my favorite programming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Rene Bridging By Garcia Summary As the title the renegade, or a confused mind suggested, the first thing needed to understand is what his confusion is. The beginning of the story reveals his source of confusion and foreshadows the main theme of the story to find order and seek unity for his senseless life: What a muddle, what a muddle! I must put my head in order. Since they cut out my tongue, another tongue, I don t know, goes on wagging inside my skull, something is talking or someone, who suddenly shuts up and then begins all over again oh I hear too many things I m not saying, what a muddle, and if I open my mouth it s like the noise of rattling pebbles. However, when explaining the reason he want to kill the missionary, instead of directly stating it, the renegade parallels the act of killing the missionary with the act of killing the father: ...kill the father, that s what one had to do, but no danger that he would throw himself into missionary work since he died long ago, the acidic wine finally ate holes in his stomach, so all that s left is to kill the missionary. (28) In Catholicism, another name for the missionary is also father. He considers the Catholicism he used to believe in as father, the one who brings security, happiness, and order to his life. Killing the father would mean the renegade decides to leave that protection and grow into a real man to find new orders and unity for himself. However, the renegade doesn t grow and find unity within him, instead, he simply converting to a new religion to seek order for his life. In other word, the renegade simply just find a new father instead of growing. This dependency on external ideology instead of the strong belief from himself leads to the destruction of his new form of life. Even when his order and unity are destructed again, he still seeks external help instead of internal examination: Leave behind that face of hatred, begged now, we were mistaken, we shall begin again, yes, help me, that s it, hold out your hand, give... As the demands in schooling increase, there is a prevalent increase in the need for cognition enhancers to gain an advantage in the academic setting. Many times, in masculine sports, the use of performance enhancing drugs can be more expected in male athletes. These athletes rely on their athletic performance as a sense of identity and feel more pressured to accomplish their athletic goals. • 12. Is English Native Speakers Use A Greater Number Of... Discussion The results of the analysis suggest that English native speakers use a greater number of singular self mention in linguistics research articles than scholars affiliated with Ukrainian universities, who avoid using them completely and rely on plural forms. This confirms the previous findings that primarily plural self mention is employed in academic writing in Slavic languages (Vassileva, 1998), and that academic texts in English by native speakers show the greatest use of singular forms in comparison to other languages (Flottum, 2005; Molino, 2010; Vassileva, 1998; Wu Zhu, 2014; Yakhontova, 2002; 2006). It can be assumed that, in American academic culture, scholars tend to establish their presence in the articles and show that research has been carried out exclusively by them and that the method and interpretations of findings are based on their own judgement. This way they might acknowledge the fact that although research should be an objective presentation of reality, it is still subjective because it is interpreted and documented by a researcher. In addition, since Americans are representatives of an individualistic culture, they might be willing to identify their personal contributions to the discourse. In contrast, Ukrainians writing in Ukrainian seem to distance or even remove themselves from the texts by using impersonal forms and plural self mention. Also, plural self mention is only expressed through verb inflections, which means that Ukrainians do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This topic has become a significant social issue as a result of the recent mass school shootings throughout the nation and the associated stigma. Severe mental illnesses, especially schizophrenia, are being severely impacted by stigma. Society today views schizophrenia as dangerous , furthering this stigma. Further, little research has been done of childhood onset schizophrenia (Hollis, 2003). However, research has shown that individuals with an earlier onset or diagnosis experience more persistent and debilitating symptoms than those with an older age of onset (Findling Schulz, 2005). Along with a higher occurrence of more severe symptoms, child onset schizophrenia is a complicated issue because children are being prescribed psychotropic medications at an early age during a period of critical brain development (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2014). This greatly affects development and exposes children to very severe side effects of the medication, resulting in a lot of patients refusing medication and the treatment they deserve. The iPhone was not even invented until ten years ago, but today, technology plays a role in almost every aspect of every person s life. It is just about impossible to go a day without seeing or using some piece of technology. The extensive amount of technology available today has really influenced the world and how people live. Unfortunately, that influence is not entirely positive; it has hindered human interaction and communicationby making people socially awkward, creating relationship issues, and limiting people s abilities to understand and use the written language. Because technology hinders human interaction and communication, people should limit their technological use. First, the more recent generations of children are growing up with technology available everywhere, so they are learning from a very young age what technology is and how to use it. Instead of playing outside with other kids in their neighborhood like their parents did growing up, most children today play video games on a gaming console, laptop, tablet, or cell phone. This is isolating children from the real world and inhibiting their ability to learn how to communicate with others. They are not learning to understand various social clues or even how to have a conversation face to face, and because of this, most kids may feel anxious or overwhelmed when they face a social ... • 32. Analysis Of The Lovely Bones By Alice Sebold It s fun to have fun, but you have to know how (Seuss 1957). Growing up, reading was one of my way favorite ways of having fun. In preschool, I was that lonely kid in the back of the class who would only talk to the teachers. My only friend was my older brother by two years, Peter. We were inseparable. We did everything together. When he started reading, I tried to begin reading because I was jealous that he was able to do something so different and mystifying. I did not actually understand those jumbles of letters until my last year of preschool, but I still cherish the days my brother would read me Dr. Seuss books. My elementary school years consisted of a lot of reading. At my elementary school, we had the AR wall. If you read books and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It kept me constantly wondering the whole time. So many thoughts and questions were running through my mind all at once. The Lovely Bones is about Susie Salmon, a fourteen year old girl, who was violently murdered, watching her family struggle through, and eventually come to terms with, the tragedy of her death. Sebold paints a picture of Susie s heaven by describing the surrounding buildings as ...large, squat buildings spread out on dismally landscaped sandy lots, with overhangs and open spaces to make them feel more modern (Sebold 16). Susie is telling her story from her afterlife, so Sebold creates imagery to place the reader in Susie s perspective. Sebold also uses a variety of figurative language. One example is My parents were like sleepwalkers saying yes to his questions, nodding their heads to flowers or speakers (Sebold 98). Sebold uses this simile to describe how lifeless Susie s parents feel as they are preparing for her funeral. The use of figurative language brings more emotion to the reader because they can clearly imagine themselves in that exact scene. The main theme in this book is that bad things will happen to the most innocent of us, but we will eventually accept it and move on. At the end, this is evident in Susie saying, These were the lovely bones that had grown around my absence: the connections sometimes tenuous, sometimes made at great cost, but often magnificent that happened after I was gone. And I began to see things in a way that let me hold the world without me in it (Sebold 320). Watching the connections between her loved ones grow on earth without her allows her to accept her death and move on from the human world. She recognizes that these new relationships, stemming from the tragedy of her death, represent that love and hope are still alive in her family. This just goes to show that we all need people to lean on in our darkest days. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Liberal Election Victory Of 1906 Essay The Reasons for the Liberal Election Victory of 1906 The Liberal election victory of 1906 was due to key issues that the Liberals manipulated to their favour whereas the exhausted Conservatives barely defended their actions. This election victory was on the back of Unionist dominance that had spanned a decade driven by three key issues: the crown, the church and the constitution. After the Second Boer Warin South Africa, everything began to go wrong for the Unionists who then found their own leader, Balfour, losing his seat in his own constituency of Blackpool. The key areas of victory are the Tory blunders and the Liberal successes. The decline of the Unionists seemed to begin after the 1900 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The public would now see the Unionist government as not being able to cope with the situation in South Africa and therefore they would think that they wouldn t be able to cope with the situation at home. Combined with this was the strength of the Liberal party. In these difficult times, the Liberals readily attacked the Unionists and it appeared to the British public that they had the moral high ground. It was Campbell Bannerman and Lloyd George especially who attacked the Unionists on every issue that they were weak on and the Boer War was a good example of this. They were excellent campaigners and orators. Lloyd George, as it can be seen on the video, was good at rallying crowds and was good at gaining supports in key areas such as Lincolnshire and London, where their votes increased dramatically up to 15%. The Liberals were very well organized. Instead of trying to get a huge majority in already Liberal strongholds they expanded out to areas where they were weaker. The British public would be able to see the strength of the Liberal candidates compared to the lackluster Unionist candidates and this would perhaps persuade them to vote for the Liberals ahead of the Unionists. This upped their overall average and this was therefore a major factor for their victory. Another key area where the Tories were weak was the economy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most would assume that this did not happen until the Renaissance period, from the 14th to the 17th century, when in fact it started much earlier than that. We can thank many of the Greeks for this matter, such as Aristotle for an example. The main reasons for the use of looking at the sky was obvious in many cases, the two main reasons were for traveling and farming. It was essential for surviving to know the seasons for crops and to tell what kind of weather was to come before going places. One person who played a huge role in astronomy and science was Galileo Galilei. Galileo had paved the way for many modern day scientists and innovations. This man had devoted his entire life to his findings and to better educate the public. In the poem The Old Astronomer to His Pupil, it was said by Sarah Williams, I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night, and this perfectly explains the relationship Galileo had with astronomy. With all the struggles that Galileo went through he could have stopped believing in what he did, yet he never did. His ideas were revolutionary in science and the world. The amount mandated for 2006 is four billion gallons of corn ethanol, and this will gradually expand to thirty six billion gallons in 2022, of which twenty one billion gallons must be from sources other than corn starch (19). To provide a basis for comparison, in 2004 about 136 billion gallons of gasoline were consumed in the US and about two billion gallons of ethanol (Yacobucci 8). Ethanol is mainly consumed in two forms in the US. Most ethanol sold in the US is in a mix of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline called E10 (Yacobucci 8). Any car is able to run on this, and it is currently being sold in much of the country. The ethanol works as an additive to help the gasoline burn more cleanly, improves performance, and provides energy as a fuel. The other less common form is E85, which contains 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Modern cars must be specially designed to run on E85. Many newer models of cars are designed as such, and these are called flex fuel vehicles. There are two common methods to make ethanol from corn (Rendleman 6). They mostly differ in the way that the corn is prepared. The first step is to grind the corn. • 45. Obligations, Reasons, And The Will By Ruth Chang Essay In Commitments, Reasons, and the Will, Ruth Chang argues that there are special reasons for actions produced within committed relationships which do not arise in other relationships, and that the commitment itself gives these reasons their normative force (75). In contrast, in Autonomy and the Authority of Personal Commitments: From Internal Coherence to Social Normativity Joel Anderson objects that views which emphasize volitions fail to adequately explain the normative failure of one who acts contrary to their commitments (94). First, this paper will explicate Chang s argument for voluntarist reasons, and, second, it will examine Anderson s objection and his social normativity proposal. I will argue that Chang fails to establish why volitional reasons are necessary to explain the normativity of commitments, and, furthermore, that Anderson s account is more plausible. Chang regards commitments as exercises of our normative powers, whereby we will reasons into existence for ourselves (75). She focuses on commitments made to friends, family, and romantic partners, and those made to oneself in terms of projects. These differ from other types of commitments, such as promises, since the obligation to keep a promise exists only because promises invite others to develop expectations (76). The commitments Chang discusses create internal obligations rather than moral obligations because, according to her, they need not cause expectations in others (although they often ... This piece also expresses personality through the use of colour, however, I moved away from using colour to form the portraits and decided to make the background of my final piece to focus on colour and pattern. I want to create a sense of how my personality is like just by the sight of my drawing and background. Originally, my idea began with the thought of creating two different pieces. The message I wanted to convey with this was to show the growth of my personality from then till now. The first piece idea consisted of a portrait drawing of me as a young child while the background the background would be either patterns or random painting techniques. The pattern determined how my personality was like as a young child (for example, a structured background with repeated pattern shows a confident and determined personality while random mark makings reflect a creative or angry personality). I wanted this drawing to have smooth pencil strokes to create a pure and soft look to represent my young age. For my second drawing of me in my represent state, I wanted the pencil strokes (used to create the drawing) more rough such as cross hatching strokes technique. The cross hatches will be a representation of me being more confident in myself as well as how the idea of who I am has developed to this age.The background for the first drawing applies to the second one also. During the process of my research, I decided to focus on creating one final piece. The final piece would be my idea of using drawing myself from a young age that I was and then doing a background pattern following the design idea I previously mentioned. Throughout this second part of this project, I researched on mark making drawing techniques from artists such as Rembrandt and Da Vinci. Rembrandt s marks of his drawing overlap each other many times.
