Plessy V. Ferguson Case
The Plessy v. Ferguson case generated nationwide contention in the United States exclusively
because the outcome would decisively affect every citizen in the country. This case was the spark
that ignited the flame in our nation that led to the desegregation of schools. Plessy vs. Ferguson
elucidated the racial inequality evident in the educational system at that time and brought to light
the standard of the separate but equaland how it affected both races. The struggle to achieve
equality was made even more difficult by the legislation of racismin the Plessy v Ferguson case.

Ferguson because of the many protests that occurred. Groups of white people protested that the
segregation laws should remain the same and that they shouldn t be changed. Even after the Plessy
v. Ferguson case, the doctrine separate but equal has been marked throughout history.
Even after the Plessy v. Ferguson case, there were many examples of post racism that occurred
throughout history. In fact, there were so many events going on that an author even used
examples of racism and the events that were happening in the world in her book. An author
named Harper Lee wrote a book called To Kill A Mockingbird. The book was set in the 1930 s and
during that time, racism was very strong. During this time, the Jim Crow laws and the Ku Klux
Klan were a big part of the racial activity going on during the 1930 s. In To Kill A Mockingbird,
there many example that showed great amounts of racism and the doctrine separate but equal.
Some of these examples include, the Tom Robinson case and how the book shows the separation
of African Americans and whites in many places. The Tom Robinson case shows a great example
of separate but equal. In the book, Tom Robinson is falsely accused for raping a white woman.
Throughout the court case, Tom was told that he was guilty numerous times just because he was
black. During the court case, Atticus says, Which, gentleman, we know is in itself a lie as black as

Should We Continue Human Cloning
One event that will probably in happen in the near future is human cloning. Human cloning began
inevitable when Scottish scientists made Dolly. The sheep was cloned on July 5, 1996 which
made her the most famous sheep in the world. Dolly was the result of 277 failed attempts. She was
actually formed without a sperm. So Dollys cell began from a sheep and was fused with a donor egg
through electricity. Since the birth of Dolly was a major scientific breakthrough, scientists wanted
to perfect human cloning. So people decided to clone animals because it seemed more ethical than
testing humans. President Clinton signed a five year contract so they can began the cloning of
animals and the federal funding. So far, scientists have cloned mice, sheep, pigs, cows, and many
more animals. The chances have now increased to one to four percent. That maybe low however it
increased from a decade ago.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, his findings were false once he reviewed his work . If we continue human cloning,
scientists hypothesize that somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) will be the way. SCNT begins
when doctors take an egg from a female donor. Once they remove the nucleus, the create an
enucleated egg. A DNA cell is taken from the human being cloned. Next, the enucleated fuses with
the subject s cell. This will create an embryo that is implanted in the mother. If the attempt was a
success, the mother gives birth to the clone. However the success rate is only one or two out of 100

The Long Historical Journey Of Lebanon s Shia Community
Dr. Haytham Mouzahem a Middle Eastern writer describes the long historical journey of Lebanon
s Shia community. The Lebanese Shia s attained global identity in the 1980s, 5 years after
Hezbollah was founded in 1975, with military operations carried out opposing the Israeli
occupation in Lebanon, and the beginning of Hezbollah s relationship with Syria and the Islamic
republic of Iranever since. According to some historians and Shia scholars in Lebanonand the west,
the actual occultation of Shi ism in Lebanon was incorporated by Abu Dhar Al Ghaffari , a
companion of Prophet Muhammad and also the fifth person to accept the religion of Islam. Abu
Dhar moved to Jabal Amel in the south of Lebanon where he began spreading the religion of Shia
Islam where he later died in 652 AD; and that is why the greater Shia population resides in the
southern region of the country .
Additionally, other historians state that the Shia tribe from Hamadan migrating into Syria and
Lebanon increased the Shia population in the country during the time of the Umayyads reign, again
creating Southern Lebanon a important region for the Shia s, later spreading into the North.
During the time of the Crusades 85% of Lebanon consisted of Shia Muslims until Ibn Taymiyyah, a
powerful extremist clergy issued a fatwa to kill the Shia s, after which many died, fled the cities,
converted to the religion of Sunni Islam or Christianity and adopted Taqiyyah , a practice that
meant hiding the

Unforgiven Film Techniques
Unforgiven is an incredible movie directed and produced by Clint Eastwood. Clint Eastwood also
plays the lead role as William Munny. Unforgiven revolves around a pig farmer who has long
retired from his outlaw and killer ways; however, due to the daily struggles of the west, Munny
needs money to support his children. Unforgivenis relevant to the class due to our studies of the

characterization. The first literary device Clint Eastwoodeffectively captures is the setting in

Sociological Perspective Of A Deviant Subculture
There are many theories that give their own opinions of how deviant subcultures are formed, many
sociological perspectives like functionalist, post modernist, Marxist, feminist, left and right realist
and labelling explain deviant subcultures in various ways. In this report, I am going to look at a
post modernist and functionalist sociological perspective and analyse their explanations.
A deviant subculture is a subculture that has different norms and values which are totally the
opposite from norms and values that the majority of people would follow in the wider society.
Subcultural theories explain about set deviant norms and values and how these norms and values
determine the behaviours of deviants within a group in a subculture.

Drift.
Drift is the final concept of Matza s theory which explains delinquency (developing idea s that
youths are loosened from society, they lack control over their own lives and are just drifting along
as they don t have a place within society, but lust to gain some control within their lives). This
suggests that they are more influenced to commit deviant behaviours specially if it has been
suggested by a peer group so by doing this they feel they will some control within their life.
Evaluation.
Downes did some of his own research a study on East end adolescents and backs up Matza s
theory, he found that these youths had a lack of satisfaction in their jobs or school which led to
stress, Downes called this leisure values which are very like Matza s subterranean values.
Matza did not look to attempt to place delinquency within a wider framework of structural location
or economic/social situations this could explain why young working class youths who seem to be

The Shame of the Nation by Jonathan Kozol
I. Analysis of the mechanics of the book. If anyone in the United States were asked, What is the
best part about living in this country?, most people would answer equality . The United States is
built on and known for the equality among its citizens and is often referred to as the melting pot .
After reading Jonathan Kozols, The Shame of the Nation, equality is nonexistent within the
schools he has gone to, and has been employed through. With his travels, expert testimony and
personal stories gathered from the people within the community and schools, he shows the exact
opposite of equality. Minority schools being his main focus, he discusses the inequalities these
students endure and truly opens up your eyes to just how awful these minority schools have it.
Jonathan Kozol is successful in his writing of The Shame of the Nation, and makes himself a
voice for these minority schools that are denied of their voices. The way Kozol chooses to
organize his book is very effective. It has a topical way of organization with a touch of
chronological usage through the book. Instead of just starting right into his points that he strives
to make, he begins the book with a little history about himself and how he ended up in the
position of traveling to these different schools. This is extremely necessary to the book, without it
the reader would have no idea as to why he chose to do his observations and how he came to love
what he does. Knowing that he has the experience of teaching

sophisticated than ever, and through studying: Enron, LIBOR, Albert Wiggan and Chase National

On Black Thursday of the Wall Street Crash of 1929 Wiggin teamed up with other Wall Street
bankers in an attempt to save the stock market. Wiggin and other bankers committed substantial
funds for an investment pool in order to buy large blocks of shares of major U.S. corporations at
prices that were above the current market. This stopped the slide that day and stabilized the
market. However, in the Pecora Commission investigation of the Wall Street crash it was
discovered that starting in September of that year Wiggin began selling short his personal
shares of Chase. Using strictly family owned corporations, Wiggin was able to hide the trades
and create a position in which we would profit by having his company fail. He was able to short
over 40,000 shares and made over $4 million dollars tax free because he used a Canadian
company to buy the stocks. Additionally, Wiggin accepted a $100,000 a year pension for life but
later declined the pension because of public uproar. All Wiggin s money was made legally at the
time and he was not alone in doing this. Due to all the other occurrences similar to this one, there
was a revision made in 1934 of the 1933 Securities Act that created stricter regulations on insider

healthcare. I took advantage of this program s resources in the following ways. After volunteering
with my sports medicine class at SoCal Physical Therapy, I was prompted to start a service project
of my own. On weekends in 2014 and 2015, I volunteered as the sports medicineprovider for a local
youth football team. I provided first aid, preventative taping, injury evaluations, and on the field

Elements Of Giselle
Raising the Barre As one of the few ballets that has been performed continuously for centuries,
Giselle has become one of the most renowned ballets of all time. Giselle was conceived in 1841
by Gautier specifically for the famous ballerina of the Paris Opera Ballet, Carlotta Grisi. This
ballet was a product of the thriving creativity of the 19th century. The classic story tells of a young
girl, Giselle, who has caught the eye of two men. As the balletprogresses, Giselle falls in love with
one of the men, only to have her heart broken. Because she is weak in health, Giselle dies of heart
break and is to become one of the Wilis, a clan of ghostly women who haunt men from beyond their
graves. It is obvious that Giselle is from the Romantic era because of the many identifying elements
that connect it to Romanticismas well as the historical influences and gender roles that are reflected
in the ballet s story. Many elements most commonly associated with Giselle include white romantic
tutus, the daunting Wilis, or light, captivating gracefulness of the dancing. This particular ballet has
always been easy to identify because of the specific qualities it possesses. Watching Giselle,
audiences are always drawn to the charming, gentle nature of Giselle, despite how technically
difficult the steps are. In her famous variation from the first act, Giselle completes thirty

Sexual Harassment At The Workplace
Part B
As seen in the case study, a court decision may be one way for any company to legally define what
constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace, but there are many ways to define sexual
harassment. Everyone has different views and tolerance levels towards sexual harassment. When a
case of sexual harassment occurs in a workplace, however, it comes down to how the courts
define sexual harassment. The Supreme Court defines sexual harassment to be unlawful in two
ways. The first type involves sexual harassment that results in a tangible employment action; this
is referred to as quid pro quo. For example, if an employee complies with the harasser s request,
then she will get a raise. This unlawful act is usually presented in the workplace by a person
who has an upper hand, such as a manager, to ensure that s/he will get what s/he wants.
Employees are often victimized by fear that they will not get promoted or that they will get fired.
They also dread that if a complaint is filed, it will not be handled correctly. This instance of
sexual harassment always involves another violation of employee rights; [sic] wrongful
termination. This would occur, for instance, when a supervisor . . . tells a subordinate that . . . she
must be sexually cooperative with [him] or . . . she will be fired, and who then indeed does fire the
subordinate for not submitting ( U.S. Supreme Court Defines ). [schwinlaw.com]
Another form of sexual harassment is known as hostile work environment.

president and was the 43rd of the United States and was a very passionate man. Although Bush
had to make some tough decisions that very day, he was a president that made a lasting impact on
America. Throughout Bush s speech, he effectively covered pathos, ethos, and logos. Bush was

Bush uses the appeal of ethos in an effective manner. Bush had prior experience being a governor
in Texas before his presidential experience. He is very clear and confident throughout this entire
speech that the American people will recover from this event. Bush knows how the American
military functions more than any other person out there, and he states, our military is powerful,
and its prepared (Bush, 2001, para. 3). That statement is very bold and it would give any
American the sense of protection they needed to feel during this time. Bush had the experience
to lead this country in a time like 9/11 and he and congress worked together hand in hand to work
powerfully on these attacks (Bush, 2001). Although most of the American people did not know
Bush on a personal level, when he delivered this speech, he made it his top priority to feel a
personal connection with the entire country. Having the title of the President of the United States
gives Bush the credibility he needed to use ethos effectively in the 9/11 speech. Bush successfully
uses logos throughout this speech. Bush is very direct with the statements he uses to prove his
points and to stand firm for America. Bush is very clear that the events that took place on 9/11 will
not have a lasting effect on the American people. He states, we will stand together to win the war

Actions of Goneril in Shakespeare s King Lear Essay
Actions of Goneril in Shakespeare s King Lear
Whenever the issue of power allocation arises, there usually emerge a few individuals who, given
only a moderate amount of authority, overstep their bounds to exert more dominance than they
rightfully own; such is the case with Goneril. Yet, although Goneril certainly errs in betraying the
very father that bestowed a large dominion upon her, King Lear deserves much of the blame for
Goneril s haughtiness. After grossly misinterpreting the reticence of his heretofore prized daughter
Cordelia, Lear divides his kingdom between the mendacious Goneril and the scheming Regan,
thereby leaving the fate of the land at their unskilled mercies. Naturally, Goneril relishes her
newfound control, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Goneril s first underhanded act, falsely professing an exalted love for her father solely in order
to gain more land, does not constitute an isolated incident; Lear s blindness to the love of
Cordelia fosters Goneril s megalomaniacal tendencies as well as permits likeminded Regan, of the
self same metal that [Goneril] is, to commit the same trespass (1.1, 69). Although Goneril speaks
first and delivers a very calculated response, Cordelia s genuine, candid answer should have
trumped the transparent rejoinders of her sisters. Instead, Lear falls victim to their ploy and invests
far too much command in Goneril; she responds as would anyone of her ambitious disposition and
decides that she must do something, and i the heat, meaning take advantage of Lear s burgeoning
infirmity (1.1, 308).
The second contention for Goneril s wickedness stems from her ordering Oswald, a steward, to
snub Lear s men, and from her extreme exaggeration of the men s supposedly decadent antics.
This argument, however, does not take into account the sentiments of Goneril as a married
woman, a lady of the house. In saying, if he dislike it, let him to our sister, she reveals her intent
to use negligent servants as a modus operandus for getting Lear out of her castle and on the road
to that of Regan (1.3, 14). The mere act of begrudging a former king some of the luxury
surrounding his previous position hardly seems

Socrates Is A Good Person
In an effort to spread the word of Socrates to a larger audience, Plato often wrote down the
discussions he held in the form of dialogues. In these dialogues, Socrates continuously makes an
effort to define that which is not easily defined and addresses questions in which the solution is not
always straight forward. Reading through Platos dialogues, such as, Euthyphro, Crito and The
Apology, readers can ponder the claims Socrates makes and receive a particular insight into his
point of view. It is known that Socrates is sentenced to death after being charged with corrupting
the youth and denying the existence of the gods, as he presents his defense in The Apology.
However, the debate as to whether or not Socrates is a good person is left up to interpretation as
he never clearly states that he believes himself to be one. Nevertheless, his actions reflect that he is
indeed a good person because of his constant pursuit of the complete truth in all matters, his lifestyle
choices and unconcern for material objects and lastly his lack of fear in the certain face of death. In
Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates innate need to reach a certain undisputed truth or the most accurate
truth is abundantly clear. In this dialogue, Socrates is summoned to court by Meletus on charges of
impurity while Euthyphro must prosecute his own father who is charged with murdering a hired
hand. However, the dialogue is quickly veered toward uncovering the complete definition of piety,
as Socrates

growth in the production of electronic devices. These devices have surely increased the

such electronic facility has been a necessity with the introduction of hardware circuits which
tamper their behavior. A Hardware Trojan is a malicious, undesired, intentional modification of an

Such conditions can result in disastrous outcomes when it comes to applications of high level
security and military usage. A hardware Trojan can either use the existing signals in an IC and

The terrain Hannibal faced was and included a daunting journey over the Alps. His strategy was
simple. Saguntum was a Roman protected city, situated below the river Ebro, significant because
Carthage had influence over all land below the River Ebro (river Ebro treaty 226 BC). Saguntum
was seen as a listening post on Carthaginian activities, and so had to be dealt with. Hannibal s
strategy was to attack Saguntum, therefore provoking Rome to declare war on Carthage (and not
on Hannibal). This was a good time to start a war as Rome was occupied elsewhere with the
Illyrian pirates and with the Gauls. It

The Language Of Egypt And The Egyptian Language
Egypt s Language In A.D. 639 Egypt was conquered by the Muslim Rashidun army. Before this
had happened Egypt s language was Coptic which had developed from Ancient Egypt. Coptic was
the language for almost all of the population in Egypt. But, this language came to an end when by
the twelfth century when it was replaced by the Arabic language. Even after this language was
replaced the Coptic Orthodox church still used it instead of the Arabic language. The Arabic
language has become the main language of Egyptian christian and Muslim. This language has been
unchanged since the seventh century. However, the written language has changed the modern
forms of style and the language is simpler than in original Arabic and are often the same as English
or French. (Home)
Religion in Egypt Most of the population of Egypt practices Islam. It originated from the country
which is now called Saudi Arabia (Home). Muhammad, the prophet, is seen in their religion as
the last of God s missionaries to bring the revelation to humankind. He was chosen to provide a
message for everyone instead of just certain people. Muhammad is known to have provided the
Quran, just like Jesus is known for providing the bible so his followers can read his word and
become spiritually closer. This book, the Quran, is also known to be the foundation for all
discipline in Islam, just like the bible is the foundation for christianity.
Respect and Honor in Egypt Honor is an important role in relationships.

Foot Binding is Viewed Differently in Different Cultures
Body modification, which means to alter ones physical appearance, is a phrase that tends to bring
up many negative implications and judgment from people who are not fully aware of all the things
that can fall under that subject. Body modification can be something as simple as having ones ears
pierced, or something to the extreme, such as pearling (inserting small beads underneath the skin of
the genitals). However, the act of body modificationis something that has been in nearly every
culture since the beginning of time.
Foot binding is now considered a very extreme and cruel form of body modification. It is almost
near impossible to find information on the subject without it being shed in a negative light. The
important thing to remember, however, is that body modification in different cultures is usually
viewed as a right of passage and honor, not a form of torture. To be able to have your body altered
to the definition of beauty in China s society was a great privilege, and surpassed any pain that went
along with the modification.
Chinese foot binding is an ancient tradition, which was passed down from generation to generation
of mother to daughter, which lasted for almost 1,000 years.
Foot binding was viewed as a sign of beauty, virtue, femininity, wealth, identity, and eroticism.
When a girl became of marriageable age, soon to be mother in laws would pick a wife for their son
by whichever girl had the smallest feet. The act of foot binding was to

The Clovis site is a Paleo Indian site which was discovered in November of 1932 by a road crew.

How Do Ancient Astronauts Have Altered Human Culture
There has been a big controversy for as long as anybody can remember whether ancient astronauts
have visited earth and altered the human culture and development or not. There are many theorists
out there that will tell you first hand that ancient astronauts do exist and will give you all the
explanations they have until they prove to you that they do exist. Most of them do know what they
are talking about. Ancient astronauts did come to eartha long, long time ago, they did help humans
advance in technology and did inspire the human culture because there is too much evidence of
large and precise structures being built that humans even in modern time would have trouble
building, and also because humans most likely did not know where to start for their culture, and
ancient astronauts helped humans build all of that, thus, ancient astronauts had to have existed with
all the explanations to back up this conspiracy, and ancient astronauts may not be here now, but
they for sure were once here on earth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

They traveled around the world using chemical fuel and only landed on mountain tops or rocky

Armed Conflict In Africa Essay
Africa, as a continent, is one of the fastest growing regions in the world; however, social and
economic issues such as poverty play a major role in stemming development in countries that need
it the most. Widespread poverty, as such that is found in large parts of Africa, can usually be traced
back to a country s inability to continue to development at a fast enough pace to keep up with rapid
demand of the population. In turn, one of the major factors that infringe on national growth, seen in
many countries across Africa, is armed conflict. The longevity and sustainability of these conflicts
is based solely on the prominence of the arms trade on the continent. This explicit trade feeds the

The displacement of people is one of the biggest consequences of gun fuelled wars. One of the
biggest examples of this can be seen in South Sudan where more than two millions people have

individual rights in the case of Laurie did not talk a lot in the novel but talks a lot about four little

Robinson Crusoe Analysis
Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel Defoe, tells the exciting tale of a young man s adventures and
growth in wisdom and faith throughout his life and experiences. The main character, Robinson
Crusoe, decides to pursue his desire to go to sea as a young man despite the protests of his family.
After many ill fated voyages and events, Crusoe finally becomes shipwrecked on an island, where
he spends the next twenty eight years. It is here that Crusoe begins to truly understand God and
Divine Providence, something that he originally holds a more twisted view of. During his youth,
and his early days of isolation on the island, Crusoe believes that God is a disinterested and at times
wrathful creator who does not give much thought to his creation. Even though his original
repentance is through fear, Crusoe eventually comes to understand that God has a guiding hand in
the events of the universe, and that the lovehe holds for his creatures is without end. Robinson
Crusoe journeys in his attitude toward Divine Providence from a rebellion against what he
perceives as a disinterested authority early on, to an initial repentance and conversion through the
vision dream, and finally, to an active and mature faith in a loving God, Who protects and guides
all things, by the end of his stay on the island.
At the beginning of the story, when Crusoe is a young man, it can be seen that Crusoe s attitude
towards God and Divine Providence is definitely lacking. Having been weak in his faith to begin

but of an education student who loves to work with kids and who tries to have the students best

giants throughout history I will discuss five topics: 1.) the nature of students, 2.) the nature of
knowledge, 3.) the purpose of public education, 4.) the method of education, 5.) and the curriculum
that should be used in public schools.
Taking off on the topic of the nature of human beings we need to look back at our own childhood

I also agree with the pragmatist/progressivists about the area of evolving knowledge. Throughout
our lives, and especially in our younger years, we develop different changes and experiences. For
instance, after sent to stand in the corner for the tenth time Billy finally realized that the action of
talking back to his mother had consequences.
My third topic, the purpose of education, has several areas in it that I am going to discuss, the first
being the general importance of education. Spring outlined many goals for education. The
prevention of teenage pregnancies, prevention of drug abuse, and the prevention of the spread of
sexually transmitted diseases were among the many goals. To achieve these goals I agree with the
pragmatist/progressivists that believe that we need to teach kids how to think and not what to
think. By teaching kids how to think we will allow them to see the consequences of their actions
and let them make the decision of whether they can handle the consequences or not. Today kids are
taught what to think and not how to think so they rebel to get out from under the control of their
authorities not seeing the consequences. For this reason education is very important, because it
allows students the opportunity to make educated and well founded judgments and decisions that
they may not have been able to make otherwise.
Continuing on with my third topic, I hope to accomplish several goals as a

Schindler s List Of The Holocaust Essay
Schindler s List was one of the first critically acclaimed Holocaust films in the United States.
Director Steven Spielberg set out to make a historically accurate film about Oskar Schindler,
portrayed by Liam Neeson, and his Jews. It has been over 20 years since the film s release and
Schindler s List continues to reign supreme when it comes to Holocaust films. However, this is not
to say that the film has not been without controversy specifically surrounding the film s historical
accuracy. While often hailed for its accuracy, it would be inaccurate to imply the film is completely
correct. Spielberg sacrifices historical accuracy numerous times for the sake of manipulating the
audience and telling the Holocauststory that he believes should be told, a story that puts Schindler
in the forefront while the Jewstake a backseat. The historical inaccuracies of the film led to the
assumption that Schindler s List is less about the Jews and the Holocaust and more about
Schindler, making the film to be more of a biopic. The portrayal of Jews in Schindler s List has
been critiqued and remained problematic since the film was released in 1993. Per Spielberg,
Schindler s List was supposed to be a Jewish film that was by Jews, about Jews, and for Jews to
use against non Jews. However, the film often missed the mark to show this. The film, which
focuses mostly on Schindler, makes the Jews out to be passive victims who willingly accepted their
fate until Schindler arrives. For

Essay about The Truth Exposed in A Clockwork Orange
The Truth Exposed in A Clockwork Orange
Alex, the fifteen year old narrator of Anthony Burgess s novel, A Clockwork
Orange, lives in a society where violence reigns. This novel has a very direct
nature, and is often blunt to the point of offense, but this makes it more
powerful and helps to further its point. This point is that everyone is out for
themselves, whether they be the police, government or citizens of this society.
In this book, the police can be just as violent as Alex and his droogs,
or gang. In fact, by the end of the novel, his droogs have themselves become
the police. The police have no qualms about beating people almost to the point
of death as they do with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alex, during his
first beating, confesses and hands his droogs to the police, but the police do
nothing to capture them. The reason the people are so afraid ...then a bolt
drawn, then the door open an inch or so... (19 20) is that they have to be,
since no one else seems to care about their well being.
The government is not much better. These corrupted individuals are only
out for themselves. They are in power, like it, and want to stay there as long
as possible. To achieve this end they will both tell the people what they want
and then do it for them. One example of this deals with crime. The citizens of
this society are fed up with it so the government gets rid of it using brutal
corrupt cops. The way that had been cleaned up, there being no longer any
dirty, ballooning slovos... (132) Since the People are not seeing the crimes
of the police, they believe that the government is protecting them and so are
appeased. Another example of this deal more directly with Alex. The citizens
want everyone to be good and peaceful. The government to show this take away a
person s free will to be bad. Thus the citizenry believe the criminals have
been reformed when in truth they have only been forced to do good, as they did
with Alex. Then when the people realize they prefer free will, the government
gives this back to Alex. The government is at the top and they

Therese had not reached the age of thirty five without learning that life presents many

And it does, after all, do computation. That s what we define the machine to do. And I had to

The Creative Curriculum Program Is An Effective Learning...
The Creative Curriculum program is an effective learning style that assists preschool children
ranging from ages 3 to 5 years old. Founded by a former preschool teacher, Diane Trister Dodge,
this early childhood education program with a comprehensive curriculum is structured to be
directed by the teacher, but initiated by the children. The philosophy of the Creative Curriculum is
to allow the children to learn at their best efforts in an environment that is safe and open for
exploration. Child centers that use this curriculum allow the children to develop and learn through
planned programming, select materials, and guided learning. The goal is to enhance their physical,
cognitive, language, social, and emotional development through hands on learning activities. The
sole principle of the curriculum program is to identify the learning styles of the children, and
strengthen them through learning activities that spark their interests. This is to help the children
become enthusiastic learners. The content areas covered within the Creative Curriculum are:
literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. Educators of the curriculum are
well qualified and are trained to possess the ability to provide positive classroom management,
build analytical skills and relationship skills. The role of the teacher is to guide the learning
process. With a student to teacher ratio of 7:1,the teachers are there to observe and evaluate the

Jacob Lawrence s Migration Series And The Gullah Culture
Within the Gullah culture, the sensation of pain and suffering, movement, and history runs
within the veins of the Gullah people that essentially ties into Jacob Lawrence s Migration
Series. The panel that had a lot of meaning and significance behind the drawing was panel twelve
that consisted of African Americans leaving the south in trains with specific appointed guards in
line to be able to keep order in the train station. Within the panel, the sense of pain and suffering
within the African American drawings, is clearly portrayed and they are also compared to the
Caucasian guards in the drawing in a very significant way. When it comes to movement, the
reason for why individuals had the tendency to migrate ended up adding up to a much bigger
result than just simple struggles. The history behind the Jacob Lawrence s Migration Series and
the Gullah culture is more than just a basic relation, on the contrary they have an intensified
connection that ties them together. Within Jacob Lawrence s twelfth panel, pain and suffering

father of her son. This journey comes after her son, who has always desired to meet his father,
was tragically hit by a car and killed while chasing down actresses of the play A Streetcar Named
Desire. This play, which Manuela was an actress in twenty years earlier, becomes small piece of
her son she holds, since it was the last thingshe did with him before he was killed. This desire she
feels to be complete is a trait which recurs in a few other characters during the story. The characters
that the desire to feel complete is most shown in is Manuela, Esteban (her son), and Huma.

All of them were cut in half. My father, I suppose. I have the impression that my life is missing

of the film, but you learn this is caused just by the situation he was put in all his life, not knowing
his father at all. He has the need to feel complete and finding his father is what he believes will do
this for him.
Huma is an actress who goes through the movie chasing a girl that will only bring her pain. Nina
is this girl, as well as her co star in the play, A Streetcar Named Desire. Huma is constantly having

A Historical Movie Need Not Be 100% True Essay
Advanced information technology is widely used in the millennium age. History is can be
reprinted, re edited and re presented (Chan, 2013). Relatively, history can be shown in a more
realistic way than before. Audience can spend few hours to have a brief understanding of history.
However, I think the motivation of making historical movie is not merely for education but
consists of other reasons. Seediq Bale will be taken as an example for elaboration. Firstly, the
movie is a review of modern value. There is a comparison between civilized (Japanese) and
uncivilized (Indigenous people). Modern education tells me civilizationis an indispensible element
for human evolution. It is a symbol of superiority. Indigenous people who are illiterate... Show more

It depreciates indigenous people. Indigenous people cannot receive fair treatment even they are
better than Japanese. Indigenous women are not respected. They need to drink with Japanese.
Government does not help them when they are raped. Money is not need in the world of
indigenous people but civilization introduces money which makes indigenous people become the
poor as they do not have money originally. Civilization introduces development so that the home
of indigenous people is mined. Their resources are deprived. Civilization introduces
secularization so that traditions and customs are prohibited. Their belief is not respected (Wei,
2011). These are different with my understanding of civilization which is contributive and
inclusive. In addition, Mona Rudo mentioned he had visited Japan. Japanese deliberately arrange
him to have dinner with his enemies to make the atmosphere nervous. He keeps kind to Japanese
when there is conflicts between Japanese and indigenous people. But Japanese never say thank
you to him. Conversely, Japanese always threat him (Wei, 2011). This reflects Japanese
civilization does not respect indigenous people. It also consists of conspiracy. Things shown
from the movie are very realistic. We are easy to misunderstand that these are 100% true. Usually,
there is a difference between projection and reality. In Seediq Bale, Mona Rudo is a hero. His
image is positive. In reality, he had cooperated with Japanese. He

Research Report On The Boston Police Department
7.Ongoing Research Work Introduction The second part of the research is focused on studying
the emotions and sentiments expressed by people who retweeted the Boston Police Department
(BPD) tweets. The goal of this phase was to observe the sentiment among the users who were
retweeting the BPD tweets. We wanted to observe the impact of BPD tweets on the users before
they retweeted the BPD tweet and after they retweeted. By doing this we wanted to capture the
shift in sentiment among the users, which would give us the impact of BPD tweet. In order to do
the above analysis, the tweets of those users who had retweeted the BPD tweet were collected.
Topsy API was used to collect the historical tweets for the time duration (April 15th 2013 19:50...

The next step was to observe the sentiment among the users, before and after they had retweeted.
We aggregated the before set for all users corresponding to a particular tweet and generated a set
of 145 files. Similarly we generated a set of 145 files for After set as well. Then we used LIWC
to generate the sentiment score for files corresponding to each BPD tweet. Thus for each of the
145 BPD Tweet, we generated sentiment score of before and after , and so we have 290 rows of
data as an output by LIWC. When we request Topsy for 200 retweeters of a particular BPD
Tweet, we got a random sample of 200 retweeters. For some of these users, the retweets were
outside our time interval of consideration. Therefore the number of users considered is not the
same across all BPD tweets, it is always a number less than 200. Therefore we added 2 new
columns for analysis, the number of users considered and the total number of tweets considered.
Later we divided the BPD tweets into two segments 1. Incident related (The tweets by BPD which
spoke about the incident and things related to it) 2. Informational (The tweets by BPD which were
sent out to public about the road being blocked or about parking related etc.). The reason for
dividing into 2 segments was to further observe the difference of impact on users by these tweets,
with the help of sentiment scores generated

Speech and Silence Hippolytus
Explore the themes of speech and silence in Hippolytus: Euripides adopts the themes of speech and
silence within Hippolytus in order to enable plot progression, to create dramatic effect and to
develop his characterisation of key individuals such as Aphrodite, Phaedra, the Nurse, Theseus and
Hippolytus himself. Through exploration of the themes in relation to the characters and
chronologically it is clear that the sporadic pattern of speech and silence creates suspense and
induces a far more intrinsic and natural response among the audience. Firstly, in the outset of the
play, Aphrodite s speech is necessary for both plot development and characterisation. Her contempt
towards Hippolytus and her dark intentions are at first revealed to... Show more content on

On the other hand, the theme of speech is contrasted to the theme of silence, through the chorus.
For instance, immediately after the death of Phaedra, exclamatory speech (of the Voice) counters
the silence of her actual death, which ominously takes place in silence off stage. However, the
chorus manage to return to this silence in essence through their speech their neutral calm response
states that It is done, then and all over now. The Queen is dead . Conversely, it could be argued
that the Nurse has the most complex involvement with the themes of speech and silence as they
heavily affect the way in which she is portrayed. The possible interpretations of the Nurse are
twofold; firstly, one could argue that the Nurse genuinely cares for Phaedra, however one could
also refute this interpretation by arguing that the Nurse is simply protecting her personal interests.
Her dealings with both silence and speech could be used to support either argument. For example,
at first she addresses Phaedra as бјЂОі бЅ П†О№О»О· (come here my dear child) and attempts to
act more sympathetically ( ОєО±О»П‰П‚ ) which suggests a genuine concern for her mistress.
Moreover, the Nurse, through the polyptoton of О»ОµОіП‰ , encourages Phaedra to speak to
various groups of people (i.e. women if her illness is one which cannot be spoken openly). The
Nurse also uses a jussive subjunctive О»О±ОёП‰ОјОµОё to express her wish to

Questions On Expectations Affect Your Experiences Essay
Did you know?
Expectations affect your experiences in life.
Meaning: Your outlook going into a situation will affect your outcome.
Example: A child raised in a poor home was always told no when she asks for anything. She d
ask for new shoes or to go on a trip, but they were too poor. Growing up, she began to dislike the
word no and found it nearly impossible to ask anyone for anything. She feared to be told no even
when she needed things badly. So she missed out on opportunities to better herself because she
expected the same negative results that hurt her so long ago. It wasn t until much later in life,
through the power of Faith in Christ, was she free from this fear and began to change and grow.
What looks like a tiny mustard seed has grown into a plant taller than her.
A well know saying:
FAITH, even as small as a mustard seed, can move mountains. Because in those days, it was
nearly impossible to move large amounts of rock and soil. But, look at what we can do today.
We move mountains little by little to make way for roads and bridges. Someone had enough
FAITH to do it. Matthew 17:20 says: He said to them, Because of your little faith. For truly, I say
to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from
here to there, and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you. What situation looks
impossible to you?
Stupified! Twice in the bible, Jesusmarveled and his chin hit the floor in shock at such great FAITH

Patients With Newly Diagnosed Hypothyroidism And Their...
Patient education. FNP needs to educate patients with newly diagnosed hypothyroidism and their
caregiver if necessary in regards to its disease process, side effect of medications, importance of
compliance and follow up. Hypothyroidism is often a lifelong condition and therefore it is
important to counsel the patient at the point of diagnosis (Roe, 2015). Taking L thyroxine is the
main treatment mechanism; therefore, medication compliance is the one of the most important part
in education. The clinical effect of L thyroxine may include normalizing abnormalities associated
with hypothyroidism. Optimal treatment of hypothyroidism may lead to improvement of various
symptoms. In neuropsychological aspect, patients may show improved motor skills, myopathy and
depression. With treatment, patient s overall energy level may enhance constipation symptoms may
improve and weight problem may lessen if thyroidbalance was a main contributor. It has been
shown that treatment of hypothyroidism would also improve lipid profiles in patients (Roe, 2015).
Longstanding hypothyroidism is accompanied by impaired function of nearly all organs and
tissues, and the clinical response to replacement therapy may continue for months. Normally, L
thyroxine administration improves clinical symptoms associated with hypothyroidism without
adverse effects. Rare cases of intolerance which may be caused by reaction to tablet colors or other
constituents have been report (Garber, 2012).

Justice In The Oresteia
In Aeschylus tragic trilogy The Oresteia, Aeschylus writes about a fundamental question in
philosophy. What is the nature of justice? In his plays, starting with Agamemnon, the Achaeans
slowly emerge and evolve from an older, more primitive autocratic form of justice, to a new concept
of justice devised by Athena. The trilogy culminates in hung jurytrial, and eventually Orestes
absolution. The jury trial at the end of The Furies implies that justiceis arbitrary, must include
deliberation, and is more than an eye for an eye.
In ancient Greece law of retaliation was similar to the eye for an eye concept. Because
Clytemnestra killed their father, it was only fair for Orestes to kill her. This is idea is imposed in
the final play of the trilogy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem with revenge is that it never ends. Instead, revenge leads to more revenge, and it is
mentioned, towards the end of The Furies, as especially dangerous for civic order. The Furies
represent a more primordial sense of justice, which Athena is intent on changing. Aeschylus is
asserting that the cycle of violence and vindictive acts of justice is characteristic of a primitive
society and that some other way must be found to resolve the conflict of moral questions. The
establishment of the courts at the end of the trilogy directly concept of justice.
The establishment of the courts provides a place for the citizens to decide about what is moral
and to debate the details of specific cases. The emergence of the jury trial also suggests that justice
is not just unless it involves deliberation. In the earlier plays Orestes and Clytemnestra took justice
into their own hands by acting impulsively and Aeschylus implies in his tragedy that When a
person seeks justice they must be careful not to pursue it in a vindictive way because revenge will
inevitably transgress into suffering for the person seeking reprisal. the law needs to be concerned
with definitions justice itself. In other words, justice without judgment is too rash and impulsive. A
jury is necessary so that questions can be deliberated. Was Orestes matricide justified?
Circumstances, motives and consequences must be taken into account at trial. These are

Short And Long Term Effects Of The Civil War Essay
In 1776, the Civil War began. Most believe war started over the moral issue of slavery, which was
a huge conflict in society but in fact it started over the economic standpoint of slavery and political
control. A key issue though, was states rights. The South wanted authority over the federal
government so they could abolish federal laws that they didn t support. Territorial expansion was
another factor in the breakout of the Civil War. The South wanted slaveryin the Western territories
while the North was committed to being against slavery. While this was going on, a republican
party was forming with members who were strongly against westward expansion of slavery,
basically taking the North s side. In 1860 when Abraham Lincolntook office, it was made clear to
the South that slavery was not going to expand westward. Therefore, the seven states in the South
seceded from the Union forming the Confederate States of America, leading to the start of the Civil
War. April 12th, 1861 a battle broke out at Fort... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lasting effect of the war was the emancipation of the slaves. It was inevitable that the North
was going to win for a number of reasons. To start off, the North had a demographic advantage
over the South. Since there were more civilians in the North than there were in the South, their
army was always larger. The Confederacy didn t even have a great Navy. Without a strong Navy,
the Confederacy would never be able to really hurt the Union by disrupting it s economy and
blockading its ports. Also, most of the battles took place on Northern territories so they knew the
land. In 1862, the North had captured New Orleans as well. This is important because New
Orleans was the major port for the Confederacy. So to capture it, meant that the South s economy
was going to collapse soon

HTML5 And The Future Of Technical Documentation
HTML5 and the Future of Technical Documentation By: Jessica Morley
May 2015 Introduction: A Crossroad in History
T
echnical writing is at a crossroad in history. Gone are the days when people read technical
documentation from print in manuals, books, inserts, or pamphlets. Likewise, the practice of
reading documentation from a CD Rom or desktop software application is quickly becoming a
thing of the past. Today, if people want technical information, they go straight to their browsers to
find what they re looking for.
With the advent of handheld smart phones, laptops, and tablets, teamed with the ubiquity of reliable
internet connection everywhere, people demand versatile, responsive, and accessible
documentation that can meet their information needs. HTML5, the new HTML standard officially
recommended in October 2014, is the World Wide Web Consortium s (W3C s) answer to this new
age of high speed on demand information, and technical writers are beginning to take notice.
However, the question remains: should technical writers adapt to this new wave of technology, and
if so, to what extent will HTML5 impact the user experience and the technical writing process?
There are a growing number of technical writers who are just shy of entirely enthusiastic for this
brave new world of technology. Peter Lubbers, an experienced technical writer, published author,
and current Senior Program Manager at Google, is one such individual who may tip the scale on
the enthusiasm

Those details keep the reader in the game, so to speak. Another one of the author s man ideas is
using the leaders in separate points of view. In every chapter there was a different leader and his
point of view. This showed how everyone felt about each battle or occurrence. The author did not
attempt to sway the reader to one army or the other. He let the reader choose whose side he or she
was on. Michael Shaara does not ever describe army or the other as the bad guys or the good guys.
The strategies and tactics used during this war were described in detail. The more important thing
described, however, is not the actual strategy, but who made these strategies and what the other
leaders thought of them. When General Lee decided to attack the enemy head on instead of going
around them, not everyone agreed with the plan. Longstreet, for one, thought that they should have
gone around the enemy and hit them from the back. These conflicts were great to see because it
showed that everything was not going in perfect unison. It showed that these strategies we not
always etched in stone. These plans had the potential to be changed many times. No successful
strategy has gone uncontested and unchanged. All of the things that were said and done in the book
are all at least somewhat true. Although, many of the

If anyone in the United States were asked, What is the best part about living in this country?, most people would answer equality . The United States is built on and known for the equality among its citizens and is often referred to as the melting pot . After reading Jonathan Kozols, The Shame of the Nation, equality is nonexistent within the schools he has gone to, and has been employed through. With his travels, expert testimony and personal stories gathered from the people within the community and schools, he shows the exact opposite of equality. Minority schools being his main focus, he discusses the inequalities these students endure and truly opens up your eyes to just how awful these minority schools have it. Jonathan Kozol is successful in his writing of The Shame of the Nation, and makes himself a voice for these minority schools that are denied of their voices. The way Kozol chooses to organize his book is very effective. It has a topical way of organization with a touch of chronological usage through the book. Instead of just starting right into his points that he strives to make, he begins the book with a little history about himself and how he ended up in the position of traveling to these different schools. This is extremely necessary to the book, without it the reader would have no idea as to why he chose to do his observations and how he came to love what he does. This stopped the slide that day and stabilized the market. However, in the Pecora Commission investigation of the Wall Street crash it was discovered that starting in September of that year Wiggin began selling short his personal shares of Chase. Using strictly family owned corporations, Wiggin was able to hide the trades and create a position in which we would profit by having his company fail. Giselle was conceived in 1841 by Gautier specifically for the famous ballerina of the Paris Opera Ballet, Carlotta Grisi. This ballet was a product of the thriving creativity of the 19th century. The classic story tells of a young girl, Giselle, who has caught the eye of two men. As the balletprogresses, Giselle falls in love with one of the men, only to have her heart broken. Because she is weak in health, Giselle dies of heart break and is to become one of the Wilis, a clan of ghostly women who haunt men from beyond their graves. It is obvious that Giselle is from the Romantic era because of the many identifying elements that connect it to Romanticismas well as the historical influences and gender roles that are reflected in the ballet s story. Many elements most commonly associated with Giselle include white romantic tutus, the daunting Wilis, or light, captivating gracefulness of the dancing. • 15. Sexual Harassment At The Workplace Part B As seen in the case study, a court decision may be one way for any company to legally define what constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace, but there are many ways to define sexual harassment. Everyone has different views and tolerance levels towards sexual harassment. When a case of sexual harassment occurs in a workplace, however, it comes down to how the courts define sexual harassment. The Supreme Court defines sexual harassment to be unlawful in two ways. The first type involves sexual harassment that results in a tangible employment action; this is referred to as quid pro quo. For example, if an employee complies with the harasser s request, then she will get a raise. This unlawful act is usually presented in the workplace by a person who has an upper hand, such as a manager, to ensure that s/he will get what s/he wants. Employees are often victimized by fear that they will not get promoted or that they will get fired. They also dread that if a complaint is filed, it will not be handled correctly. This instance of sexual harassment always involves another violation of employee rights; [sic] wrongful termination. This would occur, for instance, when a supervisor . . . tells a subordinate that . . . she must be sexually cooperative with [him] or . . . she will be fired, and who then indeed does fire the subordinate for not submitting ( U.S. Supreme Court Defines ). Actions of Goneril in Shakespeare s King Lear Essay Actions of Goneril in Shakespeare s King Lear Whenever the issue of power allocation arises, there usually emerge a few individuals who, given only a moderate amount of authority, overstep their bounds to exert more dominance than they rightfully own; such is the case with Goneril. Yet, although Goneril certainly errs in betraying the very father that bestowed a large dominion upon her, King Lear deserves much of the blame for Goneril s haughtiness. After grossly misinterpreting the reticence of his heretofore prized daughter Cordelia, Lear divides his kingdom between the mendacious Goneril and the scheming Regan, thereby leaving the fate of the land at their unskilled mercies. Naturally, Goneril relishes her newfound control, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Goneril s first underhanded act, falsely professing an exalted love for her father solely in order to gain more land, does not constitute an isolated incident; Lear s blindness to the love of Cordelia fosters Goneril s megalomaniacal tendencies as well as permits likeminded Regan, of the self same metal that [Goneril] is, to commit the same trespass (1.1, 69). Although Goneril speaks first and delivers a very calculated response, Cordelia s genuine, candid answer should have trumped the transparent rejoinders of her sisters. Instead, Lear falls victim to their ploy and invests far too much command in Goneril; she responds as would anyone of her ambitious disposition and decides that she must do something, and i the heat, meaning take advantage of Lear s burgeoning infirmity (1.1, 308). The second contention for Goneril s wickedness stems from her ordering Oswald, a steward, to snub Lear s men, and from her extreme exaggeration of the men s supposedly decadent antics. This argument, however, does not take into account the sentiments of Goneril as a married woman, a lady of the house. In saying, if he dislike it, let him to our sister, she reveals her intent to use negligent servants as a modus operandus for getting Lear out of her castle and on the road to that of Regan (1.3, 14). • 20. Socrates Is A Good Person In an effort to spread the word of Socrates to a larger audience, Plato often wrote down the discussions he held in the form of dialogues. In these dialogues, Socrates continuously makes an effort to define that which is not easily defined and addresses questions in which the solution is not always straight forward. Reading through Platos dialogues, such as, Euthyphro, Crito and The Apology, readers can ponder the claims Socrates makes and receive a particular insight into his point of view. It is known that Socrates is sentenced to death after being charged with corrupting the youth and denying the existence of the gods, as he presents his defense in The Apology. However, the debate as to whether or not Socrates is a good person is left up to interpretation as he never clearly states that he believes himself to be one. Nevertheless, his actions reflect that he is indeed a good person because of his constant pursuit of the complete truth in all matters, his lifestyle choices and unconcern for material objects and lastly his lack of fear in the certain face of death. In Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates innate need to reach a certain undisputed truth or the most accurate truth is abundantly clear. In this dialogue, Socrates is summoned to court by Meletus on charges of impurity while Euthyphro must prosecute his own father who is charged with murdering a hired hand. Over the ages, the increase in demand for the large scale production has resulted in forcing the manufacturing companies to outsource its intellectual property (IP) to foreign bodies. Literature Review The present decade has experienced a rapid growth in the production of electronic devices. These devices have surely increased the accessibility and comfort but they are also subject to security issues. The increase in security of such electronic facility has been a necessity with the introduction of hardware circuits which tamper their behavior. A Hardware Trojan is a malicious, undesired, intentional modification of an electronic circuit or design, resulting in the undesired behaviour of an electronic device when in operation. It is like a back door that can be inserted into hardware a foothold that an adversary can leverage to attack a system [1]. A hardware Trojan is considered to be an intentional modification in the physical structure of the IC which can render the IC to be either functionless or malfunction. Such conditions can result in disastrous outcomes when it comes to applications of high level security and military usage. A hardware Trojan can either use the existing signals in an IC and corrupt or alter them, hence damaging the data and commands and in turn resulting in improper execution of the hardware. • 24. Foot Binding is Viewed Differently in Different Cultures Body modification, which means to alter ones physical appearance, is a phrase that tends to bring up many negative implications and judgment from people who are not fully aware of all the things that can fall under that subject. Body modification can be something as simple as having ones ears pierced, or something to the extreme, such as pearling (inserting small beads underneath the skin of the genitals). However, the act of body modificationis something that has been in nearly every culture since the beginning of time. Foot binding is now considered a very extreme and cruel form of body modification. It is almost near impossible to find information on the subject without it being shed in a negative light. The important thing to remember, however, is that body modification in different cultures is usually viewed as a right of passage and honor, not a form of torture. To be able to have your body altered to the definition of beauty in China s society was a great privilege, and surpassed any pain that went along with the modification. Chinese foot binding is an ancient tradition, which was passed down from generation to generation of mother to daughter, which lasted for almost 1,000 years. Foot binding was viewed as a sign of beauty, virtue, femininity, wealth, identity, and eroticism. How Do Ancient Astronauts Have Altered Human Culture There has been a big controversy for as long as anybody can remember whether ancient astronauts have visited earth and altered the human culture and development or not. There are many theorists out there that will tell you first hand that ancient astronauts do exist and will give you all the explanations they have until they prove to you that they do exist. Most of them do know what they are talking about. Ancient astronauts did come to eartha long, long time ago, they did help humans advance in technology and did inspire the human culture because there is too much evidence of large and precise structures being built that humans even in modern time would have trouble building, and also because humans most likely did not know where to start for their culture, and ancient astronauts helped humans build all of that, thus, ancient astronauts had to have existed with all the explanations to back up this conspiracy, and ancient astronauts may not be here now, but they for sure were once here on earth.... • 29. Robinson Crusoe Analysis Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel Defoe, tells the exciting tale of a young man s adventures and growth in wisdom and faith throughout his life and experiences. The main character, Robinson Crusoe, decides to pursue his desire to go to sea as a young man despite the protests of his family. After many ill fated voyages and events, Crusoe finally becomes shipwrecked on an island, where he spends the next twenty eight years. It is here that Crusoe begins to truly understand God and Divine Providence, something that he originally holds a more twisted view of. During his youth, and his early days of isolation on the island, Crusoe believes that God is a disinterested and at times wrathful creator who does not give much thought to his creation. Even though his original repentance is through fear, Crusoe eventually comes to understand that God has a guiding hand in the events of the universe, and that the lovehe holds for his creatures is without end. Robinson Crusoe journeys in his attitude toward Divine Providence from a rebellion against what he perceives as a disinterested authority early on, to an initial repentance and conversion through the vision dream, and finally, to an active and mature faith in a loving God, Who protects and guides all things, by the end of his stay on the island. • 33. Schindler s List Of The Holocaust Essay Schindler s List was one of the first critically acclaimed Holocaust films in the United States. Director Steven Spielberg set out to make a historically accurate film about Oskar Schindler, portrayed by Liam Neeson, and his Jews. It has been over 20 years since the film s release and Schindler s List continues to reign supreme when it comes to Holocaust films. However, this is not to say that the film has not been without controversy specifically surrounding the film s historical accuracy. While often hailed for its accuracy, it would be inaccurate to imply the film is completely correct. Spielberg sacrifices historical accuracy numerous times for the sake of manipulating the audience and telling the Holocauststory that he believes should be told, a story that puts Schindler in the forefront while the Jewstake a backseat. The historical inaccuracies of the film led to the assumption that Schindler s List is less about the Jews and the Holocaust and more about Schindler, making the film to be more of a biopic. The portrayal of Jews in Schindler s List has been critiqued and remained problematic since the film was released in 1993. Per Spielberg, Schindler s List was supposed to be a Jewish film that was by Jews, about Jews, and for Jews to use against non Jews. However, the film often missed the mark to show this. The film, which focuses mostly on Schindler, makes the Jews out to be passive victims who willingly accepted their fate until Schindler arrives. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. A Historical Movie Need Not Be 100% True Essay Advanced information technology is widely used in the millennium age. History is can be reprinted, re edited and re presented (Chan, 2013). Relatively, history can be shown in a more realistic way than before. Audience can spend few hours to have a brief understanding of history. However, I think the motivation of making historical movie is not merely for education but consists of other reasons. Seediq Bale will be taken as an example for elaboration. Firstly, the movie is a review of modern value. There is a comparison between civilized (Japanese) and uncivilized (Indigenous people). Modern education tells me civilizationis an indispensible element for human evolution. It is a symbol of superiority. Indigenous people who are illiterate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It depreciates indigenous people. Indigenous people cannot receive fair treatment even they are better than Japanese. Indigenous women are not respected. They need to drink with Japanese. Government does not help them when they are raped. Money is not need in the world of indigenous people but civilization introduces money which makes indigenous people become the poor as they do not have money originally. Civilization introduces development so that the home of indigenous people is mined. Their resources are deprived. Civilization introduces secularization so that traditions and customs are prohibited. Their belief is not respected (Wei, 2011). These are different with my understanding of civilization which is contributive and inclusive. In addition, Mona Rudo mentioned he had visited Japan. Japanese deliberately arrange him to have dinner with his enemies to make the atmosphere nervous. He keeps kind to Japanese when there is conflicts between Japanese and indigenous people. But Japanese never say thank you to him. Conversely, Japanese always threat him (Wei, 2011). This reflects Japanese civilization does not respect indigenous people. It also consists of conspiracy. Things shown from the movie are very realistic. We are easy to misunderstand that these are 100% true. Usually, there is a difference between projection and reality. In Seediq Bale, Mona Rudo is a hero. His image is positive. In reality, he had cooperated with Japanese. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Research Report On The Boston Police Department 7.Ongoing Research Work Introduction The second part of the research is focused on studying the emotions and sentiments expressed by people who retweeted the Boston Police Department (BPD) tweets. The goal of this phase was to observe the sentiment among the users who were retweeting the BPD tweets. We wanted to observe the impact of BPD tweets on the users before they retweeted the BPD tweet and after they retweeted. By doing this we wanted to capture the shift in sentiment among the users, which would give us the impact of BPD tweet. In order to do the above analysis, the tweets of those users who had retweeted the BPD tweet were collected. Topsy API was used to collect the historical tweets for the time duration (April 15th 2013 19:50... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next step was to observe the sentiment among the users, before and after they had retweeted. We aggregated the before set for all users corresponding to a particular tweet and generated a set of 145 files. Similarly we generated a set of 145 files for After set as well. Then we used LIWC to generate the sentiment score for files corresponding to each BPD tweet. Thus for each of the 145 BPD Tweet, we generated sentiment score of before and after , and so we have 290 rows of data as an output by LIWC. When we request Topsy for 200 retweeters of a particular BPD Tweet, we got a random sample of 200 retweeters. For some of these users, the retweets were outside our time interval of consideration. Therefore the number of users considered is not the same across all BPD tweets, it is always a number less than 200. Therefore we added 2 new columns for analysis, the number of users considered and the total number of tweets considered. Later we divided the BPD tweets into two segments 1. Incident related (The tweets by BPD which spoke about the incident and things related to it) 2. Informational (The tweets by BPD which were sent out to public about the road being blocked or about parking related etc.). The reason for dividing into 2 segments was to further observe the difference of impact on users by these tweets, with the help of sentiment scores generated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Speech and Silence Hippolytus Explore the themes of speech and silence in Hippolytus: Euripides adopts the themes of speech and silence within Hippolytus in order to enable plot progression, to create dramatic effect and to develop his characterisation of key individuals such as Aphrodite, Phaedra, the Nurse, Theseus and Hippolytus himself. Through exploration of the themes in relation to the characters and chronologically it is clear that the sporadic pattern of speech and silence creates suspense and induces a far more intrinsic and natural response among the audience. Firstly, in the outset of the play, Aphrodite s speech is necessary for both plot development and characterisation. Her contempt towards Hippolytus and her dark intentions are at first revealed to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, the theme of speech is contrasted to the theme of silence, through the chorus. For instance, immediately after the death of Phaedra, exclamatory speech (of the Voice) counters the silence of her actual death, which ominously takes place in silence off stage. However, the chorus manage to return to this silence in essence through their speech their neutral calm response states that It is done, then and all over now. The Queen is dead . Conversely, it could be argued that the Nurse has the most complex involvement with the themes of speech and silence as they heavily affect the way in which she is portrayed. The possible interpretations of the Nurse are twofold; firstly, one could argue that the Nurse genuinely cares for Phaedra, however one could also refute this interpretation by arguing that the Nurse is simply protecting her personal interests. Her dealings with both silence and speech could be used to support either argument. For example, at first she addresses Phaedra as бјЂОі бЅ П†О№О»О· (come here my dear child) and attempts to act more sympathetically ( ОєО±О»П‰П‚ ) which suggests a genuine concern for her mistress. Moreover, the Nurse, through the polyptoton of О»ОµОіП‰ , encourages Phaedra to speak to various groups of people (i.e. women if her illness is one which cannot be spoken openly). Example: A child raised in a poor home was always told no when she asks for anything. She d ask for new shoes or to go on a trip, but they were too poor. Growing up, she began to dislike the word no and found it nearly impossible to ask anyone for anything. She feared to be told no even when she needed things badly. So she missed out on opportunities to better herself because she expected the same negative results that hurt her so long ago. It wasn t until much later in life, through the power of Faith in Christ, was she free from this fear and began to change and grow. What looks like a tiny mustard seed has grown into a plant taller than her. A well know saying: FAITH, even as small as a mustard seed, can move mountains. Because in those days, it was nearly impossible to move large amounts of rock and soil. But, look at what we can do today. We move mountains little by little to make way for roads and bridges. Someone had enough FAITH to do it. Matthew 17:20 says: He said to them, Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you. • 51. Justice In The Oresteia In Aeschylus tragic trilogy The Oresteia, Aeschylus writes about a fundamental question in philosophy. What is the nature of justice? In his plays, starting with Agamemnon, the Achaeans slowly emerge and evolve from an older, more primitive autocratic form of justice, to a new concept of justice devised by Athena. The trilogy culminates in hung jurytrial, and eventually Orestes absolution. The jury trial at the end of The Furies implies that justiceis arbitrary, must include deliberation, and is more than an eye for an eye. • 53. Short And Long Term Effects Of The Civil War Essay In 1776, the Civil War began. Most believe war started over the moral issue of slavery, which was a huge conflict in society but in fact it started over the economic standpoint of slavery and political control. A key issue though, was states rights. The South wanted authority over the federal government so they could abolish federal laws that they didn t support. Territorial expansion was another factor in the breakout of the Civil War. The South wanted slaveryin the Western territories while the North was committed to being against slavery. While this was going on, a republican party was forming with members who were strongly against westward expansion of slavery, basically taking the North s side. In 1860 when Abraham Lincolntook office, it was made clear to the South that slavery was not going to expand westward. To start off, the North had a demographic advantage over the South. Since there were more civilians in the North than there were in the South, their army was always larger. The Confederacy didn t even have a great Navy. Without a strong Navy, the Confederacy would never be able to really hurt the Union by disrupting it s economy and blockading its ports. Also, most of the battles took place on Northern territories so they knew the land. In 1862, the North had captured New Orleans as well. HTML5 And The Future Of Technical Documentation HTML5 and the Future of Technical Documentation By: Jessica Morley May 2015 Introduction: A Crossroad in History T echnical writing is at a crossroad in history. Gone are the days when people read technical documentation from print in manuals, books, inserts, or pamphlets. Likewise, the practice of reading documentation from a CD Rom or desktop software application is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Today, if people want technical information, they go straight to their browsers to find what they re looking for. With the advent of handheld smart phones, laptops, and tablets, teamed with the ubiquity of reliable internet connection everywhere, people demand versatile, responsive, and accessible documentation that can meet their information needs. HTML5, the new HTML standard officially recommended in October 2014, is the World Wide Web Consortium s (W3C s) answer to this new age of high speed on demand information, and technical writers are beginning to take notice. However, the question remains: should technical writers adapt to this new wave of technology, and if so, to what extent will HTML5 impact the user experience and the technical writing process? There are a growing number of technical writers who are just shy of entirely enthusiastic for this brave new world of technology. Peter Lubbers, an experienced technical writer, published author, and current Senior Program Manager at Google, is one such individual who may tip the scale on the enthusiasm ...
