Heinrich Boll s Context and Lost Honour
Long Essay The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum
Authors often use characters within their novels to show the consequences of challenging cultural
boundaries and, in turn, display their own personal concerns. It is not uncommon for characters to
reflect an author s ideology regarding social groups in their contemporary time periods. It is clear that
this is certainly the case with the 1975 novel The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, (also referred to as
How Violence Develops and Where it Can Lead), written by the German Author, Heinrich Boll. The
Lost Honour is, on the surface, an attack on yellow journalism and the damage it causes to the lives of
the people reported on. However, with a more in depth analysis of the novel we are able to see ...

Not only does it imply that Blum is a criminal but also that she is not smart enough to organize the
crime itself. Ultimately Blum defies this suggestion by committing the crime of murder without any
help from a male companion. In the process Blum is being punished for going past cultural boundaries
by her incarceration for the murder of Totges. When looking at Bolls political views it is clear that he
has a deep concern for inequality of power. His time spent in Germany during the Nazi reign has led
him to distrust dictatorship, the ultimate form of unequal power. In relation with the treatment of Blum
in The Lost Honour his inability to except the unequal power in society has led him to oppose the
patriarchal society in which contemporary Germany was in at that point in time. The treatment of
Blum after her struggle to break free from her expected social role demonstrates Bolls understanding
of the problems faced by women and his deep concerns relating to them.
Personal experiences in relation to the male characters in The Lost Honour demonstrate Bolls inability
to accept the social power held by strong male figures and their abusing of this power. It is clear that it
is the males that hold all the power within The Lost Honour through the delegation of occupations.

My Research on Comets
For my spring semester project I decided to research on comets. I settled upon comets because comets
have always intrigued me and I have never really known the full extent of them. I have known that
comets come across the Earth with their spectacular light but I have never really known the whole
story behind them such as how they come across the Earth, the specialty of them, and how there is
light coming from them. After researching extensively, I have learned a great deal about them such as
their origins, where they form, and also what comets were thought to be. I believe comets are one of
the greatest and most spectacular objects that travel in the universe because they are rarely seen but
they give a wonderful experience and show for people. To begin with, comets are called dirty balls of
ice because they are mixed with sooty ice, dust and many more. The word comets have had lots of
names in cultures, and to the Greeks it s called kometes which means hairy stars. A comet is made of
three main components which are: the nucleus, coma, and the tail. The nucleus is also called the center
core and it is made up of icy gases and grains of dust. The nucleus is not very hard but can hold
elements such as oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and hydrogen. Also the dust in the nucleus is made by
silicates and metal in the ice. The next part is the coma which is a cloud of hydrogen atoms that cover
the nucleus. A process occurs called resonance fluorescence which sublimates the ice

The Youth Curfew Diminished Productivity Among Youth And...
On August 5th 2014, the Baltimore City Council launched one of the strictest youth curfews in the
nation. The curfew requires that all youth under the age of 14 be indoors by 9 p.m. and 15 and 16
years olds in at 10 on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends. (Reed) The curfew itself sparked an
outrage from Baltimore citizens, mainly parents and youth. Many deem the new restriction positive
and beneficial to the city s drug and crime problems, but others visualize it as ineffective and
discriminatory, and have the potential to entangle young people especially teens from minorities and
low income groups in the criminal justice system. (Gambino) The youth curfew diminished
productivity amongst the youth, has become the wrong alternative to the city s problems, and has built
a barrier between the youth and the city law enforcement.
Take a moment and think back to the summer months in Baltimore. There are kids of all ages running
around on the playground and lounging around the neighborhood recreational pool on a really hot day.
There are young men at the mall shopping and attempting to holler at the girls with a facade of
swagger. As the day ends, here come the exhausted young adults heading home from their summer
jobs through Youth Works. When Baltimore s officials dropped the curfew into an effect, all that
colorful energy drained out of the summer. The guys no longer play football and basketball in the
middle of their blocks and alleys with their neighbors and cousins at

The Role Of Journalists On The Media
Imagine a world in which you did not have access to any news the only thing you consider current
events is what you yourself see and what you hear from others. Obviously, this world would be very
problematic. We all rely on the news media to connect us to the entire world, which is why the role of
journalists is essential. Journalists have the very important duty of reporting on current events
accurately and objectively. Along with written text, pictures also tell a story, which presents a
continuous ethical issue for many journalists. Although newspapers and magazines routinely publish
photos, there are many ethical values that journalists must consider before publishing those photos,
such as the impact a photo or video could have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are typically three types of news stories journalists look for: natural events or disasters, a
person, group, or organization completing some newsworthy act, and when journalists themselves
develop their own story through beat reporting ( News ). Once these stories have been found, it is
imperative that journalists report on these events both accurately and objectively. This balance is
imperative for journalists to maintain because according to Greenberg and Wheelwright, a key aspect
of journalistic ethics is the management of readers expectations (514). Although the field as a whole
has been transforming due to the online news media, considering what is newsworthy for the general
public has always been a main concern for journalists. As a result of this transformation, trust in the
news media has drastically decreased over the past several years for a variety of reasons, which is why
a revival of essential journalistic values, such as honesty and integrity, is needed.
Along with using written text to tell a news story, pictures also play an important role in journalism.
The popular phrase a picture is worth a thousand words is often true in this field. When thinking back
on a previous news story, readers will most likely remember the visual portrayal of a news story rather
than the written text. According to recent research, as

Ketogenic Diet On Exercise Metabolism, And
Ketogenic diet refers to low carb diet, or low carb high fat (LCHF), in which the body produces
ketones in the liver to be used as energy. This diet focuses on eating high fat, adequate protein, and
low carbohydrate foods, which could be beneficial to our bodies if we consume the right types of fat
such as avocado, beef tallow, butter, chicken Fat, non hydrogenated Lard, macadamia nuts,
mayonnaise (watch out for added carbs), olive Oil, coconut Oil, coconut Butter, red Palm oil, and
peanut Butter
According to The Effects of a Ketogenic Diet on Exercise Metabolism and Physical Performance in
Off Road Cyclists study, ketogenic diet stimulated some positive changes in body mass, body
composition, and in the lipid and lipoprotein profiles. In the study, they found significant increase in
the relative values of maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and oxygen uptake at lactate threshold (VO2
LT) after the ketogenic diet, which can be a result of body mass and fat mass reduction, and/or the
greater oxygen uptake necessary to obtain the same energy yield as on a mixed diet, due to increased
fat oxidation or by enhanced sympathetic activation. There was also a significant increase in max

Ebola Epidemic Analysis
Background Information: Diseases have emerged and reemerged throughout history, claiming
thousands of lives. The infectious and/or contagious nature of a disease allows for its rapid spread
throughout a population, and thus, able to escalate quickly and claim a large portion of the population
before they are contained. Diseases such as Ebola or AIDS are usually fatal, and their lack of available
treatment fill people with dread and fear. The most recent outbreak of Ebola in 2014 experienced by
the South African countries, especially Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, is the largest Ebola
outbreak in history (Frieden, T. R., Damon, I., Bell, B. P., Kenyon, T., Nichol, S. 2014).. This virus has

In this hypothetical situation, I will assume that 1 person has arrived in Oakville, carrying the ebola
virus (assuming that they are able to pass undetected by the medical immigration authorities, at the
port of land of the foreign country). As there has never been an ebola epidemic in Oakville, I will
assume that there are no individuals who are immune to this disease, thus, the entire population of
Oakville, except for the 1 infected person is at risk of being infected by the disease. Then, I will use
the Kermack McKendrick model to derive an exponential equation, which will model the spread of
this virus throughout Oakville. Using this equation, I will be able to find the time required, in days, for
the entire population to be affected by the virus. I will define the point at which the entire population
is affected by the virus, to be that point at which there are no more susceptible people remaining who
are at risk of being infected by the disease. This means that all the people are distributed within the
categories of either being infected or recovered with immunity, or dead. I will then compare my
results to those of case studies, of countries such as Sierra Leone and Liberia which were affected in
the 2014

An Apology To My Prey
Commentary An Apology to my Prey by Joyce Sidman. The purpose of this poem is to help us
understand what people mean when they talk. Body Paragraphs The Author uses sarcastic language to
help us understand what the poem means. For example: when he said Let me offer an apology, too, for
my talons impossibly long and curved... why would you show off while you apologise, you should
feel regretful. In addition to that: when he said, I am sorry. For you, that is. All this works out quite
well for me . You would not be biased when you apologise, only when you are sarcastic. It is a good
way to use expressive language and attract the reader. The author, in this poem, uses figurative
language to grab a reader s interest and curiosity:

Iron Fence Steps
An iron fence or gate is an attractive addition to any property. But in order to keep your fences and
gates looking good, they ll require maintenance. To ensure that your iron gates and fences always look
beautiful, keep these maintenance tips in mind. 1. Take protective measures. Wrought iron fences can
rust when they are exposed to elements such as rain and humidity. While this is less of a problem in
some states like Arizona than in some other climates, it is still smart to take steps to prevent damage.
You can apply a protective coat of wax to your fence to ward off rust, or simply cover your fencing
with a tarp during the occasional rainstorm. If your wrought iron fence is near a pool, rust is also more
likely to develop, so applying a protective sealant (which can be purchased ... Show more content on

Inspect your iron fence regularly. You should regularly inspect your iron gates and fences to identify
any areas in need of repair. Look for signs of rust, loose or unstable footings, cracks, or other damage.
If the fence has been painted, look for chips in the paint. Then, take steps to repair whatever damage
you find. When noticed right away, most wrought iron fence problems can be easily fixed. 5. Repair
rust spots. If a small area of your fence has begun to rust, you can take steps to minimize the damage.
Use a sandpaper or steel wool to remove the rust, then stop the corrosion by applying wax. Touching
up your fence s paint job can also minimize the appearance of rust. However, if your fence is severely
rusted, you may need to call a company that specializes in repairing wrought iron fences. 6. Fix bent
sections. It s possible that an accident could bend a part of your wrought iron fence. If this happens to
your fence, you may be able to fix it yourself. Use a blowtorch to heat the bent sections of the fence
and then hammer them back into place. As always, use caution when working with tools, and consider
calling a professional fence repair company if the damage is

The Hero s Journey In The Monomyth By Joseph Campbell
It may be hard to believe that every story follows a near identical pattern. Author Joseph Campbell
discovered a general structure for the plot of all myths and stories. He wrote about his theory in The
Hero With a Thousand Faces to educate others about this idea, which he called, The Monomyth .
Joseph Campbell, who has written many famed books in his lifetime, was a mythologist and spent a
large part of his time reading before creating this theory. The monomyth, also known as The Hero s
Journey, explains in deep detail the interaction the hero has during each phase of his journey. Joseph
Campbell was partially inspired by Carl Jung s theory of Archetypes ; Jung believed characters had

the warrior is prepared to embark on their quest. The hero often feels unsettled at the idea of leaving

refusal is essentially a refusal to give up what one takes to be one s own interest (59). At this point in

Meritocracy Of My Democracy Essay
A democratic meritocracy
My ideal country would be a democratic meritocracy. In a meritocracy, one s rewards are dependent
on how much one works. This means that there is a lot of incentive to work hard in this country. Now
to the interesting part, the democracy. I believe in a pure democracy, rather than a representative
democracy. Ancient Greece and Switzerland, are both pure democracy s. Direct democracy is like, but
distinct from, representative democracy, in which people vote for representatives who then enact
policy initiatives.
Depending on the system in use, direct democracy might entail passing executive decisions, the use of
sortation, making laws, directly electing or dismissing officials, and conducting trials. Two leading
forms of direct democracy are participatory democracy and deliberative democracy.
Semi direct democracies in which representatives administer day to day governance, but the citizens
remain the sovereign, allow for three forms of popular action: referendum (plebiscite), initiative, and
recall. The first two forms referendums and initiatives are examples of direct legislation.
Compulsory referendum subjects the legislation drafted by political elites to a binding popular vote.
This is the most common form of direct legislation. Popular referendum empowers citizens to make a

The Presentation of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman by...
The Presentation of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
Willy Loman is presented as both a tragic hero and an unconscious victim in Death of a Salesman .
Death of a Salesman is very much based upon the American Dream, and whether we are slaves or
conquerors of this dream. This is an idea that the playwright Arthur Miller has very passionately
pursued both through Willy s own eyes, and through his interaction with the different characters in the
play.
Firstly, the definitions of a hero and a victim very much influence the way that Willy is viewed by the
audience. Miller has not used the play to suggest that Willy Loman is an ordinary hero, but more a
tragic hero. A tragic hero, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the contrary, we are not immediately introduced to this delusional, flaky character. At the
beginning of scene one, we see the more assertive side of Willy as he discusses business possibilities
with his wife Willy. Miller balances out the audience s perception of Willy towards the end of the act
where the more vulnerable side of Willy is illustrated, with the use of his behaviour and the response
of others to his attitude. An example of this would be Linda diligently agreeing with Willy s strange
statements.
One of Willy s traits which qualify him as a hero is his eternal sacrifice, and the way that he throws
everything into the balance in order to secure his rightful place in society, and to live the American
Dream. These sacrifices are perfectly illustrated by the long distance that Willy travels in order to sell
his stock. At the start of the play, Linda comments on his driving up to New England to which Willy
responds: I m the New England man. I m vital in New England. Miller makes clever use of the
language here, in order to present quite a heroic view of

Animals In The Enigma Of Animal Suffering
In The Enigma of Animal Suffering, the author implies that animals may not be so different from
human beings in regards to feeing love and pain. The author mainly focuses on talking about farm
animals since those are the type that are mainly consumed. He uses analogies by comparing animals to
some delicate situations people actually experienced. For example, he compared cows being
inseminated to a person being sexually assaulted. These analogies are difficult to think about in a
different perspective, but it definitely makes you think. He highlights th way these farm animals are

Carter was Absolute on Human Rights?
An Examination of President Jimmy Carter s Human Rights Policy in Argentina
Introduction:
President Jimmy Carter declared in his inaugural address that the US s commitment towards human
rights must be absolute . Human rights under Carter were anything but absolute. Under his presidency,
the US sent contradictory messages: one opposing human rights violations and another which seemed
to overlook human rights abuses. The issue of human rights was not Carter s only priority. In reality,
human rights ended up being one of many of the Carter administration priorities. All of these foci
collided, and left Carter with no real center to his foreign policy. One of Carter s first attempts to
implement his human rights initiatives was in Argentina. The authoritarian, rightist Juntas organized a
violent repression against political dissidents. Trying to distance himself from the policies of
Ford/Kissinger, Carter attempted to pressure the authoritarian regime to improve their human rights
record via reductions in military aid and economic sanctions. These maneuvers led to some mild
improvements initially, but ultimately came back to hurt the Carter administration after the Soviet
invasion of Afghanistan. Argentina s decision to align itself with the Soviets rather than the US on the
issue of grain embargoes is an example of the Carter administration s poor foresight. Carter over
compartmentalized his foreign policy agenda and

Abortion Is The Choice Of The Woman Holding The Fetus Essay
Abortion is a subject that sparks great debate either for or against. With the country that we live in
today, its moral standards are ever changing and its decisions are scrutinized. Abortions are becoming
justified and should be the choice of the woman holding the fetus. This choice should be supported
because government should not be involved in the choice of its individual people. Religion, and
science will always cause friction when educating people on how a human life is or should be treated.
Abortion is more than educating people, it has psychological factors, and it has short term, and long
term effects. The financial matters and who bears the overall long term effect, society or the individual
needs to be addressed. The Supreme Court of the United States has been involved in highly publicized
cases of abortion; Rowe v Wade, Gonzales v. Carnhart, Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of New England,
are to name a few. The Supreme Court is the highest form of government in the United States to
decide these matters and should throw them back down the state where each own can establish its
guidelines to govern these laws and regulations. Sexual Education in the school system is designed to
teach the youth about sexually transmitted diseases, and the risk of what can happen if a life is brought
into this world unplanned. It is at this point where abortion should be discussed and debated so that the
future and those planning on the future can make the decisions with a full

Risks and Hazards Identified by Walmart
Walmart identifies many different risks and hazards that an employee may face during work and
believe that employees need to be aware of them. These hazards can be identified in various forms
such as: physical, ergonomic, chemical, psychological, and safety/security
Physical Hazards: can result when performing various activities around the workplace. They can occur
from the equipment that we use, such as the pumps trucks, electric pump trucks or from the trash
compactor. Employees need to be trained on how to properly use the different equipment to ensure
that they have sufficient knowledge on how to operate them safely. The training allows for individuals
to understand what to do when there is a malfunction with the equipment and how they need to be
properly reported and documented, as well as locked away so that others do not use the broken

that emotional labor is stressful and may result in burnout. However, Grandey (2000) differentiates
between surface acting and deep acting to determine that emotional labor can have both positive and
negative long term effects for the employee (p. 97 101). The author further asserts that since surface
acting is often equivalent to faking that it is the more detrimental of the two, resulting in stressful
experiences for the employee. This makes sense, since it logical to assume that forcing oneself to

Analysis Of Rebecca West s The Return Of The Soldier
In Rebecca West s novel, The Return of the Soldier the reader is introduced to a man named Chris
Baldry who suffers from shell shock fighting in the war. When he returns home, he has no recollection
of the past fifteen years of his life. What he remembers, is being in love with a woman named
Margaret, the daughter of an innkeeper. However, what he inevitably comes home to is a wife named
Kitty and a cousin named Jenny who have been earnestly awaiting his return. Although West portrays
Chris to be a victim so to speak within the novel due to his amnesia, the real trauma that he would
experience was awaiting him at home, back at Baldry Court. Chris return would lead to a major upset
in the lives of the women in his life, but for himself as well despite the fact he cannot account for a
little over a decade of his past.
When Chris returns home, West makes it abundantly clear through the accounts of all of the characters
that he is not the man he was when he left to fight in the war. His own cousin Frank even says, I never
realized the horror of warfare until I saw my cousin... (pg. 40). Even Jenny admits that he doesn t
seem to be the same when she admits, By nights I saw Chris running across the brown rottenness of
No Man s Land, starting back here because he trod upon a hand, not even looking there because of the
awfulness of an unburied head... (pg. 7). The shell shock he experiences causes him to lose not only
parts of his past, but parts of himself as well. However,

impact of martin luther king on civil rights
How much impact did Martin Luther King have in changing civil rights for black Americans? Eyes on

On the bus boycott When the trial of the boycott leaders began in Alabama, the national press got its
first good look at Martin Luther King Jr., the first defendant. Four days later, King was found guilty.
The sentence was a $500 fine and court costs, or 386 days of hard labour. The judge explained that he
had imposed this minimal penalty because King had promoted non violence. King was released on

loss (S21) obtained for model. Figure 4 shows the reflection and transmission factor measured for the
range 1 GHz to 4GHz. This result gives that the bandpass characteristics are valid for a wide range of
EM spectrum for communication. In order to get detailed characteristics in the neighborhood of 2.45

return loss curves which define the characteristics of a bandpass filter which operates at 2.45GHz. The
pass band of the filter is fine and free from noise disturbances such as higher order harmonics, ripples,
EMI etc. One of the techniques for BPF designing has been presented here. By varying the resonator

an efficient, high performance and flexible filter. Because of frequency selective nature of BPF, it is
used mainly in reception device for electromagnetic interference reduction. Also the nearer frequency

The Book Of Martha Analysis
The Purpose in Life
The real question is not whether life exists after death. The real question is whether you are alive
before death (Rajneesh, n.d.). This short story narrates about a woman named Martha Bes that
apparently died. The main character is debating whether or not she is alive or dead. Also she goes
about asking what God wanted her to do. The book of Martha written by Octavia Butler uses literary
elements to present the overall message what is God s purpose in life.
One such literary element used to present the story s theme is the setting. First she was sitting at her
computer, wrapping up one more day s work on her fifth novel (Octavia, 2003). Then she felt stiff and
stopped working at five in the morning. Suddenly, she asks her self where she was. and in a surprising
way she started telling herself that she could not be in heaven. Martha s descriptions of an endless
grayness creates a mood of gloominess. In addition, describing that there was nothing there but herself
and God, made the reader felt depressive. Discovering where the story took place helps the reader
understand more in depth the story.
Another literary element that presents the story s theme is the plot. According to Routledge (2013) the
Hades is an ancient Greek that means a place where the wicked dead reside and are punished. The

The Mental Illness Of The United States Essay
Lydia Anderson Period 1 There are many people in the United States that have a mental illness that is
either not able to be treated or is never diagnosed at all. This is because treatment is very expensive
and hard to access, and without proactive care of the mentally ill there can be various unfortunate
outcomes, sadly including, death. So, why is access to mental health care so limited and what is the
government of Ohio doing to solve it and what else should be done? Mental illnesses are very
common in the United States, with one in five of adolescents having a diagnosed mental illness and in
the last year less than half of these adolescents have received proper treatment. The most common
mental disorders, anxiety and depression, can disrupt daily life and result in suicide, which is the third
most frequent cause of death in teenagers ( The Office of Adolescent Health, U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services ). Ten percent of adolescents did not have health insurance in 2013 and
those who did, had a very limited amount of mental health care services provided to them ( The Office
of Adolescent Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ). It has been proved that it is
even less likely that adolescents who are poor, homeless, gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender will
receive the care that is necessary for their health and even life ( The Office of Adolescent Health, U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services ). Mental disorders are not only an

Nitinol Lab Report
Introduction The purpose of this lab was to examine nitinol s, a nickel Titanium shape memory alloy,
solid phase transformations and behaviors, a shape memory alloy can be defined as a specific group of
metal alloys that can recover from a seemingly permanent strain by applying a certain amount of heat
to the substance. This occurs through a slight rearrangement of the atoms within the solid. The
structure of the austenite phase of nitinol is very rigid and perfectly aligned, whereas the martensite
phase is soft and can be deformed easily. Additionally this lab also explored identifying a set of
unknown wires by comparing calculated densities to known densities for each of the wires, estimating
the temperature when the transformation from the martensitic phase of nitinol to the austenitic phase
of nitinol occurs, retraining the nitinol wire to a new austenitic shape, and examining the acoustic
properties for nitinol in both the martensitic phase and austenitic phase through an online

In chapter 16: Salim leaves with Latika. We see Salim barge into the room where Jamal and Latika lie
innocently talking. There is a high angle shot making Latika and Jamal look weak and vulnerable.
This cuts to a low angle of Salim making him seem strong and powerful. Salim continues to say I am
the elder, I am the boss, for once you do as I say. This shows that Salim believes he is the dominant
brother and Jamal must obey him. The scene concludes with Salim raping Latika after Jamal is forced
away at gunpoint by his own brother. This is where we see the darker side of Salim s character and the
contrast between the innocence of Jamal and the narrow mind of Salim. This impacts on the audience
because it is the first time that there has been serious conflict between the brothers. It also aids the
audience into categorizing Salim into the villain character at this point in the film. At the end of the
film Salim makes the ultimate sacrifice; his life. This emphasizes the dramatic change that has
occurred in Salim s character. Salim transforms from being the antagonist to being the enabler, aiding
Jamal in finding Latika. In chapter 23: Salim helps Latika escape. We see Latika watching the news
about Jamal being on his final question, with tears rushing down her cheeks. Salim enters. We see a
high angle of Latika reiterating her vulnerability this shadows chapter 16 (when Latika was in the

Influence Of Theodore Roosevelt On The Long Road To Success
In this quotation, Theodore Roosevelt urges the people of the world to strive for high achievement, as
this effort is essential to success. Roosevelt notes that greatness only comes to those who work for it,
not the critics or the bystanders who are unwilling to endure the journey to success. My future goals
are to learn from my failures, and constantly improve myself on the long road to success.
Roosevelt begins his statement by condemning those who stand by and judge the hard workers. These
critics are those who believe they know better than those actually working towards success. In the end
these critics gain nothing and receive no credit for the achievements of their colleagues. These critics
do nothing to contribute to the progress of the man in the arena, either through fear or indifference,
they have no chance at success until they change their ways. These critics gain nothing because they

The key to success is not about whether you fail or not, but how you deal with failure. In order to
succeed, one must overcome failure. Sometimes, the best way to learn is to fail. On the road to
success, many lessons are learned, almost all from failures. The only way to achieve success is to
improve as you keep moving forward. Two of the most significant historical figures that overcame
failure are Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. Ford s early businesses failed and left him broke five
times before Ford Motor Company finally succeeded, revolutionizing transportation in America.

How Does Montresor Plan To Kill Fortunato
The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could; but when he ventured upon insult, I
vowed revenge. ... I must not only punish, but punish with impunity. (Poe, 233)
Some of Montresor s very first words when he is telling the story show that he wants revenge against
Fortunato. By saying, I must not only punish, but punish with impunity, it is shown that he intends to
get away with the deed he plans to commit.
It must be understood that neither by word not deed had I given Fortunato cause to doubt my
goodwill. I continued, as was my wont, to smile in his face, and he did not perceive that my smile now
was at the thought of his immolation. (Poe, 234)
By this point in the story, Montresor is clearly planning to kill Fortunato. While to Fortunato he
appears friendly and cheerful, he is secretly thinking of ways to murder his friend. Montresor does not

Biology Enzyme Experiement
An enzyme is a biological catalyst. It speeds up a reaction by lowering the activation energy required
to start the reaction. It speeds up a reaction, but remains unchanged unless certain limiting factors are
introduced. It is composed of polymers of amino acids. An enzyme has an optimum pH and
temperature. When an enzyme is at its optimum conditions, the rate of reaction is the fastest. In their
globular structure, one or more polypeptide chains twist and fold, bringing together a small number of
amino acids to form the active site, or the location on the enzyme where the substrate binds and the
reaction takes place. An enzyme has an active site, which has a unique shape into which only a

My hypothesis is that the more acidic the milk is the faster it takes for the milk to curdle when renin is
added to it. As pH increases, enzyme activity increases until it reaches an optimal point in which
enzymes denatures and as pH increases, enzyme activity decreases.
Trends in this experiment don t make proper sense due to inaccurate measurements of the temperature
of the milk and inaccurate measurement of pH level. Though I can say that at pH level 7 and 11 the
time taken for the milk to curdle were really low and close, at pH level 8 the time taken was high and
at pH level 9 no result was taken maybe because the enzyme doesn t function the at this particular pH
level.
In conclusion my hypothesis was correct, the more acidic the milk the faster the time it takes for the
milk to curdle. Due to inaccurate measurement, correct results might not have been obtained thus

The Pros And Cons Of Criminology
Over the last three decades, the social changes of late modernity come to impress the criminal justice
authorities of the UK and the USA upon on the crime control and criminal justice (Garland 2001). In
response to the specific constraints, pressures or problems, they have had to reorient their practice and
formulate policy through a series of accommodations and adjustments. However, the authorities still
have had to face a new and problematic criminological predicament due to two key social factors the
normality of high crime rates and the acknowledged limitations of the criminal justice state (Garland
2001, p.106). In order to change the confusing circumstances, criminology offers a great deal of
interpretations and perspectives that leads contemporary crime control policy and practice to be
governed by contradictory criminologies (Carrabine et al. 2009). David Garland (2001) represents one
of the most sophisticated attempts to make a two pronged and contradictory response to the collapse
of penal welfarism in crime control systems across western societies at the end of the 20th century.
According to Garland (2001), the criminology of penal welfarism has been increasingly superseded by
two new criminologies: the criminology of the other and the criminology of the self (Garland 2001,
p.138). Although the criminology of the other is regarded as mainstream criminology, the criminology
of the self is recently supported by a broad range of theories that combine

Relationship Between Sense And Sensibility
The next female antagonist belonging to the category of self centred girls is Elinor s sister Marianne
Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility. While the classification of Marianne as her sister s antagonist
might cause confusion or even objections/disapproval as she naturally loves her sister and encourages
her potential relationship with Edward Ferrars (source?), she endangers nonetheless Elinor s happy
ending albeit unknowingly and unintentionally. Marianne s emotional nature provides the basis for
this threat: her characterisation at the beginning of the novel/novel initial presents her as sensible and
clever; but eager in every thing; her sorrows, her joys, could have no moderation (SS 8), and thereby
foreshadows her incessant occupation with her feelings which is going to be her undoing in the course
of Sense and Sensibility. This preoccupation with her emotions, in turn, is a sign of her self
centredness or even selfishness.
As Marianne is led by her emotions, she often speaks her mind openly without thinking and restraint,
and thereby treads on the toes of others. However since she, according to Morgan s suggestion,

Games were designed to entertain while also showing the emperor s power and wealth. But there was
another, perhaps bigger, reason for the shows: blood sports and death(Cartwright). The day of games
had a very specific order: first were the comic or fantasy duels that contained women, dwarves, or
disabled people, second came the gladiator battles, and finally the animal hunts(Cartwright).
Gladiators were generally male slaves or prisoners of war( Colosseum ). The animal hunts were led by
the bestiarii(professional animal killers) and thousands of animals were butchered in a single
day(Cartwright). Some animals that were killed were lions, tigers, bears, and even elephants(
Colosseum ). There were also defenseless animals like deer, ostriches, and giraffes(Cartwright).
Brutality was deliberate to achieve crudeliter(the correct amount of cruelty)(Cartwright). In order to
hold mock naval battles, the floor of the arena could be flooded and hold large amounts of water(
Colosseum ). These naval battles were common at the beginning of the use of the Colosseum, but
became more rare towards the decline of the Colosseum. Even dramas were held in the arena. Many
executions were held inside the Colosseum, even crucifixions(Cartwright). Many Christians were
murdered in the arena because they were seen as a challenge to the authority of the
emperor(Cartwright). These Christians were thrown to lions, burned alive, shot with arrows, or many
other gruesome ways(Cartwright). The most important citizens sat on stone benches with cushions in
the lower level of the arena(Favro). Lesser citizens had to sit on wooden bleachers in the upper
levels(Favro). These citizens climbed to seats that had a height equivalent to a 16 story

Compare And Contrast The Great Gatsby
When a director makes a movie based off of a book, they have to make artistic choices about how the
movie made; these choices range from the plot to characterization, or even the setting. In 2013, Baz
Luhrmann adapted the 1922 novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby into a movie. Although
Luhrmann frequently praised for mostly sticking true to The Great Gatsby s plot and only making
subtle changes, but these subtle changes alter how the viewer interprets the movie. Major artistic
choices in the movie are how the setting was shown, the characterization of Daisy, and Gatsby s

The movie rendition of The Great Gatsby excels at bringing the prosperity of the roaring 20s to life on
screen. The 1920s known for being very wild and crazy, and though the movie format, the 1920s are

In the movie, Daisy was portrayed as a mild and meek version of herself in the book because key
scenes that develop and show Daisy s true personality are left out of the movie; which makes her keep
her innocent and pure image. One of the scenes where Daisy s personality began showing was when
Gatsby met Pammy (Daisy s daughter). The Buchanan s hired a nanny to raise Pammy into what
Daisy considers a proper woman and the nanny is the closest person to a mother in Pammy s life.
Daisy only allows Pammy into her life when it is convenient for her, like using Pammy to show off
her accomplishments as a mother. Daisy said to Gatsby that she thinks girls need to be pretty and
stupid and not smart, which gives a lot of insight into what the world was like in the 1920s when
sexism was more overt than it is now, and when women were expected to do what was considered
feminine . Without Pammy in the movie, Daisy isn t portrayed as very materialistic and makes her
actions later in the movie more

The Technological Revolution Has Changed The Access Of...
1.0 Introduction
The advent of the technological revolution has fundamentally changed the access that citizens within a
democracy have to sensitive and private information about governments, organisations, workplaces
and fellow citizens. It is incumbent upon individuals to honour the privacy of this information. The
protection of sensitive information is considered paramount, yet anyone with information that they
feel is in the public interest and is faced with no avenues to make their concerns known is turning to
the internet as a platform for the swift dissemination of material and a layer of anonymity (Savage
2013) and this new era of what is known as whistleblowing has given rise to cyberethics.
According to the Congressional Research Service, whistleblowing is defined as making a disclosure
evidencing illegal or improper government (and corporate) activities (Whitaker cited in Koh, 2012).
The individuals who make these disclosures are termed whistleblowers, and while the information
they expose is protected by legislation and codes of conduct, they are usually not afforded the same
level of protection, and indeed, are open to prosecution for breaking the law.
The purpose of this report is to evaluate whether all citizens in a democracy should be protected from
criminalisation for exposing nepotism and corruption.
2.0 Methods
As whistleblowing in a cyber context is a new field of study, there is limited quantitative research
available. The report will discuss

Feminism Vs Modern Day Feminism
Modern day feminists/SJWs(Social Justice Warriors)are basically a joke (radical feminists) in this
present day feminists are just being plain out bullies to men who are basically powerless because
people choose to bring up things like sexism. This essay will quickly explain and convince just why
modern day feminism is harming this world more than helping in the 21 century and why feminists are
lying to our faces.
The world is a crazy place in 2017, on college campuses all over the world they are creating safe
spaces that are for everybody except white males which is sexist and racist at the same time.
Men are constantly insulted by feminists but nobody ever calls it sexism because there is a massive
double standard.
Men are bullied by feminists for random things like manspreading many feminists throw away facts
and it simply isn t fair to men who can t say anything back.
The wage gap is a myth, simple as that it is a lie started by feminists who simply want to get payed
more it has been debunked millions of times the whole 79 cents on a dollar thing may be true but it is
not because of sexism or whatever feminists scream and complain about. Feminists sometimes say
that employers more often hire men than women but that is also not true there is a higher
unemployment rate for men right now then women
Support: Men choose different careers paths and more often choose higher paying majors, men also
work longer hours whereas women typically value flexibility more than men.

The Hennessey and Yellich series by author Peter Turnbull is a police procedural that follows Chief
Inspector George Hennessey and his partner Detective Seargent Somerled Yellich. Hennessey is a
widower, whose wife died when their son Charles was a baby. The father and son lived together in the
house and garden that was designed by the wife. Charles grew up to be a husband, father, and solicitor.
Hennessey got a dog, walks to the pub, and reads military history books. He tells his wife about his
day while in the garden, and walks around the town to get places that he needs to go. Somerled Yellich
(his first name is pronounced Sorley) is married happily to his wife Sara, and they have a son named
Jeremy who has down syndrome. He is a happy man, both at his job and when he is home. The series
is a police procedural and it is set in York, England. The series is also considered cozy as the bodies

George Hennessey, a Chief Inspector, is working on a case trying to find a missing middle aged couple
named Max and Amanda. They vanished with out a trace recently, leaving behind a modest home and
children that are in adulthood. Hennessey draws the initial conclusion that there is some foul play
here. He is later called out to a crime scene on a local farm where a shallow grave is found, and in the
grave are two bodies. None other then his missing couple. This is the beginning of things for Detective
Inspector Hennessey and the rest of the police squad. One thing that Hennessey knows for sure is that
they were not killed because of a vast sum of money they had lost a quite sizable chunk of change
recently. They were both engaged in affairs that neither one knew about. What is odd too, is how the
son is acting throughout the investigation, and the cherry on top of the whole thing is that a family

Early Sport Specialization
In the past 30 years, the direction of sports within the youth has drastically changed. In the past, young
athletes aimed to play in several sports. Now, athletes focus themselves in one single sport and year
round extensive training has been encouraged by most adults in a young athlete s life whether they are
a parent or a coach. Allowing the youth to participate in sports is frequently considered a great way to
develop leadership skills and an appreciation for individual and team accomplishments (Sailor). Along
with the rise of Sport Specialization, concerns pertaining to a child s physical and psychological health
have begun to increase as well. Early Sport Specialization may lead to greater risks in a child s life

According to Elsbeth Vaino, 82% of the top professional athletes involved themselves in multiple
sports before they went pro (Vaino). Let s take Russell Wilson for example. Wilson played football
and baseball while he attended North Carolina State University. In his freshman year, Wilson was the
first quarterback to earn all ACC honors at North Carolina State University. Wilson s passion to
continue to play baseball caused conflict with coach Tom O Brien, head football coach at North
Carolina State University. Coach O Brien and Wilson came to a disagreement due to Russell s
decision to attend Spring training with the Rockies, a Major League Baseball team, in 2011 after he
was drafted by them in 2010. Wilson decided to transfer to the University of Wisconsin Madison and
continued his success. By Wilson s senior year, he led his football team, the Badgers, to the Big 10
conference while setting a record within the NCAA for his passing efficiency. In April 2012, Russell
Wilson was drafted to the Seattle Seahawks and has been setting records ever since he started playing.
Wilson holds the record for the most passing yards in a playoff game and is a top five NFL
quarterback (Breitenbach). Not only did Russell Wilson achieve amazing accomplishments in a span
of 4 years, he has only experienced one health complication which

Religious Freedom in the Workplace
The United States is one of the most culturally and religiously diverse countries in the world. The
founding fathers of the United States wanted to ensure that its people would have the ability to
practice their religion with no threat of persecution. In order to accomplish the goal of religious
freedom and continue to ensure that all people of any religion would be free to practice their religion,
the United States passed Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prohibits an employer from
discriminating based on the religious views of its employees. As the citizens of the United States
spend a large amount of time in their places of employment, religious practices that these employees
feel are necessary for the true observance of their religion must be accommodated by the employers.
This law contends that in cases where the accommodation of religious practices of its employees does
not create undue hardships, an employer must make reasonable accommodations for employees to
practices the beliefs of their religion. As the demographics of the United States continues to change
with more religiously diverse people immigrating to the country, employers are coming under more
pressure to ensure they are taking all possible precautions to accommodate the religious practices of
its employees. These precautions are important as the once an employee has established a bona fide
complaint of religious discrimination, the burden of proof then falls on the employer to prove they

Management vs Leadership
Management Leadership
Management and leadership are two of the most important positions to have for anyone in an
organization. Both of these positions come with a great deal of responsibilities; however, they both
serve two different purposes and responsibilities in an organization, along with a different sent of
guidelines.
Leadership
Leadership is a wonderful quality for anyone to have because not everyone possesses leadership
qualities and skills; however, a person can learn to have leadership qualities if he or she has the desire.
A good leader has many excellent qualities such as; a leader has followers, knows how to encourage
the workers, can get results by implementing strategies, can create a vision for the company, and ...

Leadership, in contrast, focuses on challenging and inspiring people. Management and leadership have
to work together to make sure the goal is achieved.
According to Stephen R. Covey, Management is problem oriented and leadership is opportunity
oriented .
A successful organization cannot exist without both strong leadership and great management. It is
important to remember that most people are not born with natural leadership skills and qualities, but
leadership can be learned and developed.
Conclusion
Management is clearly different from leadership. S. R. Covey, but I think it does not mean one is less
important, than the other. Covey wants us to understand, that leader is not only a position. However, it
takes an excellent leader and manager to be able to fulfill the leadership and management role
successfully for the benefit of the company and his or her people in all aspects of the business fields.
Therefore, every company, big or small, must have people, whom they can depend on, whole
heartedly, who can fulfill the leadership and management

  • 2. Heinrich Boll s Context and Lost Honour Long Essay The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum Authors often use characters within their novels to show the consequences of challenging cultural boundaries and, in turn, display their own personal concerns. It is not uncommon for characters to reflect an author s ideology regarding social groups in their contemporary time periods. It is clear that this is certainly the case with the 1975 novel The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, (also referred to as How Violence Develops and Where it Can Lead), written by the German Author, Heinrich Boll. The Lost Honour is, on the surface, an attack on yellow journalism and the damage it causes to the lives of the people reported on. However, with a more in depth analysis of the novel we are able to see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only does it imply that Blum is a criminal but also that she is not smart enough to organize the crime itself. Ultimately Blum defies this suggestion by committing the crime of murder without any help from a male companion. In the process Blum is being punished for going past cultural boundaries by her incarceration for the murder of Totges. When looking at Bolls political views it is clear that he has a deep concern for inequality of power. His time spent in Germany during the Nazi reign has led him to distrust dictatorship, the ultimate form of unequal power. In relation with the treatment of Blum in The Lost Honour his inability to except the unequal power in society has led him to oppose the patriarchal society in which contemporary Germany was in at that point in time. The treatment of Blum after her struggle to break free from her expected social role demonstrates Bolls understanding of the problems faced by women and his deep concerns relating to them. Personal experiences in relation to the male characters in The Lost Honour demonstrate Bolls inability to accept the social power held by strong male figures and their abusing of this power. It is clear that it is the males that hold all the power within The Lost Honour through the delegation of occupations. • 3. My Research on Comets For my spring semester project I decided to research on comets. I settled upon comets because comets have always intrigued me and I have never really known the full extent of them. I have known that comets come across the Earth with their spectacular light but I have never really known the whole story behind them such as how they come across the Earth, the specialty of them, and how there is light coming from them. After researching extensively, I have learned a great deal about them such as their origins, where they form, and also what comets were thought to be. I believe comets are one of the greatest and most spectacular objects that travel in the universe because they are rarely seen but they give a wonderful experience and show for people. To begin with, comets are called dirty balls of ice because they are mixed with sooty ice, dust and many more. The word comets have had lots of names in cultures, and to the Greeks it s called kometes which means hairy stars. A comet is made of three main components which are: the nucleus, coma, and the tail. The nucleus is also called the center core and it is made up of icy gases and grains of dust. The nucleus is not very hard but can hold elements such as oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and hydrogen. Also the dust in the nucleus is made by silicates and metal in the ice. The next part is the coma which is a cloud of hydrogen atoms that cover the nucleus. A process occurs called resonance fluorescence which sublimates the ice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Youth Curfew Diminished Productivity Among Youth And... On August 5th 2014, the Baltimore City Council launched one of the strictest youth curfews in the nation. The curfew requires that all youth under the age of 14 be indoors by 9 p.m. and 15 and 16 years olds in at 10 on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends. (Reed) The curfew itself sparked an outrage from Baltimore citizens, mainly parents and youth. Many deem the new restriction positive and beneficial to the city s drug and crime problems, but others visualize it as ineffective and discriminatory, and have the potential to entangle young people especially teens from minorities and low income groups in the criminal justice system. (Gambino) The youth curfew diminished productivity amongst the youth, has become the wrong alternative to the city s problems, and has built a barrier between the youth and the city law enforcement. Take a moment and think back to the summer months in Baltimore. There are kids of all ages running around on the playground and lounging around the neighborhood recreational pool on a really hot day. There are young men at the mall shopping and attempting to holler at the girls with a facade of swagger. As the day ends, here come the exhausted young adults heading home from their summer jobs through Youth Works. When Baltimore s officials dropped the curfew into an effect, all that colorful energy drained out of the summer. • 5. The Role Of Journalists On The Media Imagine a world in which you did not have access to any news the only thing you consider current events is what you yourself see and what you hear from others. Obviously, this world would be very problematic. We all rely on the news media to connect us to the entire world, which is why the role of journalists is essential. Journalists have the very important duty of reporting on current events accurately and objectively. Along with written text, pictures also tell a story, which presents a continuous ethical issue for many journalists. Although newspapers and magazines routinely publish photos, there are many ethical values that journalists must consider before publishing those photos, such as the impact a photo or video could have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are typically three types of news stories journalists look for: natural events or disasters, a person, group, or organization completing some newsworthy act, and when journalists themselves develop their own story through beat reporting ( News ). Once these stories have been found, it is imperative that journalists report on these events both accurately and objectively. This balance is imperative for journalists to maintain because according to Greenberg and Wheelwright, a key aspect of journalistic ethics is the management of readers expectations (514). Although the field as a whole has been transforming due to the online news media, considering what is newsworthy for the general public has always been a main concern for journalists. As a result of this transformation, trust in the news media has drastically decreased over the past several years for a variety of reasons, which is why a revival of essential journalistic values, such as honesty and integrity, is needed. Along with using written text to tell a news story, pictures also play an important role in journalism. The popular phrase a picture is worth a thousand words is often true in this field. When thinking back on a previous news story, readers will most likely remember the visual portrayal of a news story rather than the written text. According to recent research, as ... Then, I will use the Kermack McKendrick model to derive an exponential equation, which will model the spread of this virus throughout Oakville. Using this equation, I will be able to find the time required, in days, for the entire population to be affected by the virus. I will define the point at which the entire population is affected by the virus, to be that point at which there are no more susceptible people remaining who are at risk of being infected by the disease. This means that all the people are distributed within the categories of either being infected or recovered with immunity, or dead. • 8. An Apology To My Prey Commentary An Apology to my Prey by Joyce Sidman. The purpose of this poem is to help us understand what people mean when they talk. Body Paragraphs The Author uses sarcastic language to help us understand what the poem means. For example: when he said Let me offer an apology, too, for my talons impossibly long and curved... why would you show off while you apologise, you should feel regretful. In addition to that: when he said, I am sorry. For you, that is. All this works out quite well for me . You would not be biased when you apologise, only when you are sarcastic. To ensure that your iron gates and fences always look beautiful, keep these maintenance tips in mind. 1. Take protective measures. Wrought iron fences can rust when they are exposed to elements such as rain and humidity. While this is less of a problem in some states like Arizona than in some other climates, it is still smart to take steps to prevent damage. You can apply a protective coat of wax to your fence to ward off rust, or simply cover your fencing with a tarp during the occasional rainstorm. Inspect your iron fence regularly. You should regularly inspect your iron gates and fences to identify any areas in need of repair. Look for signs of rust, loose or unstable footings, cracks, or other damage. If the fence has been painted, look for chips in the paint. Then, take steps to repair whatever damage you find. When noticed right away, most wrought iron fence problems can be easily fixed. 5. Repair rust spots. If a small area of your fence has begun to rust, you can take steps to minimize the damage. Use a sandpaper or steel wool to remove the rust, then stop the corrosion by applying wax. Touching up your fence s paint job can also minimize the appearance of rust. However, if your fence is severely rusted, you may need to call a company that specializes in repairing wrought iron fences. 6. Fix bent sections. It s possible that an accident could bend a part of your wrought iron fence. If this happens to your fence, you may be able to fix it yourself. Joseph Campbell, who has written many famed books in his lifetime, was a mythologist and spent a large part of his time reading before creating this theory. This means that there is a lot of incentive to work hard in this country. Now to the interesting part, the democracy. I believe in a pure democracy, rather than a representative democracy. Ancient Greece and Switzerland, are both pure democracy s. Direct democracy is like, but distinct from, representative democracy, in which people vote for representatives who then enact policy initiatives. Depending on the system in use, direct democracy might entail passing executive decisions, the use of sortation, making laws, directly electing or dismissing officials, and conducting trials. Two leading forms of direct democracy are participatory democracy and deliberative democracy. Semi direct democracies in which representatives administer day to day governance, but the citizens remain the sovereign, allow for three forms of popular action: referendum (plebiscite), initiative, and recall. The Presentation of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller Willy Loman is presented as both a tragic hero and an unconscious victim in Death of a Salesman . Death of a Salesman is very much based upon the American Dream, and whether we are slaves or conquerors of this dream. This is an idea that the playwright Arthur Miller has very passionately pursued both through Willy s own eyes, and through his interaction with the different characters in the play. Firstly, the definitions of a hero and a victim very much influence the way that Willy is viewed by the audience. An example of this would be Linda diligently agreeing with Willy s strange statements. One of Willy s traits which qualify him as a hero is his eternal sacrifice, and the way that he throws everything into the balance in order to secure his rightful place in society, and to live the American Dream. These sacrifices are perfectly illustrated by the long distance that Willy travels in order to sell his stock. • 15. An Examination Of President Jimmy Carter s Human Rights... Paige Cooper Carter was Absolute on Human Rights? An Examination of President Jimmy Carter s Human Rights Policy in Argentina Introduction: President Jimmy Carter declared in his inaugural address that the US s commitment towards human rights must be absolute . Human rights under Carter were anything but absolute. Under his presidency, the US sent contradictory messages: one opposing human rights violations and another which seemed to overlook human rights abuses. The issue of human rights was not Carter s only priority. In reality, human rights ended up being one of many of the Carter administration priorities. All of these foci collided, and left Carter with no real center to his foreign policy. One of Carter s first attempts to implement his human rights initiatives was in Argentina. The authoritarian, rightist Juntas organized a violent repression against political dissidents. Trying to distance himself from the policies of Ford/Kissinger, Carter attempted to pressure the authoritarian regime to improve their human rights record via reductions in military aid and economic sanctions. These maneuvers led to some mild improvements initially, but ultimately came back to hurt the Carter administration after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Argentina s decision to align itself with the Soviets rather than the US on the issue of grain embargoes is an example of the Carter administration s poor foresight. With the country that we live in today, its moral standards are ever changing and its decisions are scrutinized. Abortions are becoming justified and should be the choice of the woman holding the fetus. This choice should be supported because government should not be involved in the choice of its individual people. Religion, and science will always cause friction when educating people on how a human life is or should be treated. Abortion is more than educating people, it has psychological factors, and it has short term, and long term effects. The financial matters and who bears the overall long term effect, society or the individual needs to be addressed. The Supreme Court of the United States has been involved in highly publicized cases of abortion; Rowe v Wade, Gonzales v. Carnhart, Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of New England, are to name a few. The Supreme Court is the highest form of government in the United States to decide these matters and should throw them back down the state where each own can establish its guidelines to govern these laws and regulations. This short story narrates about a woman named Martha Bes that apparently died. The main character is debating whether or not she is alive or dead. Also she goes about asking what God wanted her to do. The book of Martha written by Octavia Butler uses literary elements to present the overall message what is God s purpose in life. One such literary element used to present the story s theme is the setting. First she was sitting at her computer, wrapping up one more day s work on her fifth novel (Octavia, 2003). Then she felt stiff and stopped working at five in the morning. Suddenly, she asks her self where she was. and in a surprising way she started telling herself that she could not be in heaven. This is because treatment is very expensive and hard to access, and without proactive care of the mentally ill there can be various unfortunate outcomes, sadly including, death. So, why is access to mental health care so limited and what is the government of Ohio doing to solve it and what else should be done? Mental illnesses are very common in the United States, with one in five of adolescents having a diagnosed mental illness and in the last year less than half of these adolescents have received proper treatment. The most common mental disorders, anxiety and depression, can disrupt daily life and result in suicide, which is the third most frequent cause of death in teenagers ( The Office of Adolescent Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ). Ten percent of adolescents did not have health insurance in 2013 and those who did, had a very limited amount of mental health care services provided to them ( The Office of Adolescent Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ). The structure of the austenite phase of nitinol is very rigid and perfectly aligned, whereas the martensite phase is soft and can be deformed easily. Additionally this lab also explored identifying a set of unknown wires by comparing calculated densities to known densities for each of the wires, estimating the temperature when the transformation from the martensitic phase of nitinol to the austenitic phase of nitinol occurs, retraining the nitinol wire to a new austenitic shape, and examining the acoustic properties for nitinol in both the martensitic phase and austenitic phase through an online investigation. The wire was held in the desired shape then heated using a 500+ degrees Celsius flame. There is a high angle shot making Latika and Jamal look weak and vulnerable. This cuts to a low angle of Salim making him seem strong and powerful. Salim continues to say I am the elder, I am the boss, for once you do as I say. This shows that Salim believes he is the dominant brother and Jamal must obey him. The scene concludes with Salim raping Latika after Jamal is forced away at gunpoint by his own brother. This is where we see the darker side of Salim s character and the contrast between the innocence of Jamal and the narrow mind of Salim. This impacts on the audience because it is the first time that there has been serious conflict between the brothers. It also aids the audience into categorizing Salim into the villain character at this point in the film. At the end of the film Salim makes the ultimate sacrifice; his life. This emphasizes the dramatic change that has occurred in Salim s character. Salim transforms from being the antagonist to being the enabler, aiding Jamal in finding Latika. In chapter 23: Salim helps Latika escape. We see Latika watching the news about Jamal being on his final question, with tears rushing down her cheeks. Salim enters. Roosevelt notes that greatness only comes to those who work for it, not the critics or the bystanders who are unwilling to endure the journey to success. My future goals are to learn from my failures, and constantly improve myself on the long road to success. Roosevelt begins his statement by condemning those who stand by and judge the hard workers. The Pros And Cons Of Criminology Over the last three decades, the social changes of late modernity come to impress the criminal justice authorities of the UK and the USA upon on the crime control and criminal justice (Garland 2001). In response to the specific constraints, pressures or problems, they have had to reorient their practice and formulate policy through a series of accommodations and adjustments. However, the authorities still have had to face a new and problematic criminological predicament due to two key social factors the normality of high crime rates and the acknowledged limitations of the criminal justice state (Garland 2001, p.106). In order to change the confusing circumstances, criminology offers a great deal of interpretations and perspectives that leads contemporary crime control policy and practice to be governed by contradictory criminologies (Carrabine et al. 2009). David Garland (2001) represents one of the most sophisticated attempts to make a two pronged and contradictory response to the collapse of penal welfarism in crime control systems across western societies at the end of the 20th century. According to Garland (2001), the criminology of penal welfarism has been increasingly superseded by two new criminologies: the criminology of the other and the criminology of the self (Garland 2001, p.138). It is incumbent upon individuals to honour the privacy of this information. The protection of sensitive information is considered paramount, yet anyone with information that they feel is in the public interest and is faced with no avenues to make their concerns known is turning to the internet as a platform for the swift dissemination of material and a layer of anonymity (Savage 2013) and this new era of what is known as whistleblowing has given rise to cyberethics. According to the Congressional Research Service, whistleblowing is defined as making a disclosure evidencing illegal or improper government (and corporate) activities (Whitaker cited in Koh, 2012).
