Brand History
Dr Pepper was created at Morrison¡¯s Old Corner Drug store in Waco Texas in 1885, making it the
oldest soft drink in the United States. It was first created by Charles Alderton, a pharmacist, when he
mixed several fruit flavored carbonated beverages. After creating a flavor he liked his boss test tasted
it and decided to serve it at their soda fountain. Popularity grew and soon other soda fountain
operators wanted to sell it so Morrison began producing syrup for the drink. Robert Lazenby a
beverage chemist and proprietor of The Circle ¡°A¡± Ginger Ale Company tasted the drink and offered

Comparison Between Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet...
The first movie ever made was The Horse in Motion which was created by Eadweard Muybridge in
1878. I hope to see people talk about the events that happen in the movie, and how they end up
affecting the events of the story. In my speech I will analyze multiple movies, the elements in them,
and how the actions of the characters in them affect the story. I choose to do it this way, so people can
have some examples, and know things to look for. There are two movies I will mainly focus on they
are Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Pulp Fiction. I will also talk about other
movies, but they are not my main focus. I will do this do hopeful convince you that there is more to a
movie then what you can see. I shall begin every analyzation of the movies will a short summary of
them. Now with further ado I shall give a short short summary of Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber
of fleet street. There are three characters i m going to focus on in Sweeney Todd, and they are
Sweeney Todd, Lucy, and Johanna. Sweeney Todd AKA Benjamin Barker is a barber on Fleet street in
London. Lucy is Todd s wife that s her main point for now. Johanna is their daughter. Early in the
story Benjamin gets sent away by the judge who wants Lucy for himself. Lucy is then alone, and is
sent to a masquerade by the judge s assistant. Where something bad happens to her. She then later
poisons herself. Johanna was taken away by the judge and he adopted her. Fifteen years past and
Benjamin Barker comes back as Sweeney Todd. He also bring alongs Anthony who helped him on his
travels. He goes back to where is barber shop was, and meets Ms.Lovett. She tells him that Lucy
poisoned herself. Todds like i m gonna kill that judge, Which he ends up doing. Also Ms.Lovett makes
the meat pies out of humans. Now that you know the parts of the story that you need to know i can
begin the analysis. There is a crazed lady outside where Johanna is kept. Anthony talks to her and he
asked who is that lady in the window, and she knew that that was Johanna. She is then seen outside of
Ms. Lovett s meat pie shop, and says she see that sign of the devil outside of it. Ms.Lovett kicks her
out multiple times because she is on to her. Todd later kills her, but

Aura Dam Research Paper
Aura is a meager, agriculture based town. There s not a lot to keep one occupied in Aura, the adults
raise their crops and drink coffee, the teenagers work for a rancher or farmer until the work day end,
they then consequently take boats out to the local dam. The dam, Aura Dam, is the main attraction of
the meager, agriculture filled town. The dam holds some appeal to everyone, whether it be young
children, adolescents, or adults. During the latter part of the day, usually occurring in the latter part of
the week, children love to play on the sand banks while their older siblings are splashing around in the
refreshing, dark water as a troop of mothers oversee the youth as they frolic around on the waterfront.

A Case Study Of Rare And Less Common Cancers
During the previous year, 42,000 Australians were diagnosed with rare or less common (RLC) cancers
and a staggering 24,000 patients died from it. Australia is known to have one of the best cancer
survival rates, so how is this happening in our society? Although research and treatment of common
cancers such as breast cancer have been efficiently funded by the government, RLC cancers are
lacking substantially in all aspects. This issue needs to be addressed as it has led to critical
deficiencies in the scientific establishment of rare cancers, significantly lower survival rates and
difficulties in treatmentment access. In order to prevent the existence of such inequalities, it is vital
that the government must provide supplementary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rare Cancers Australia chairman Richard Vines affirmed, ...the lack of research means the lack of
clinical knowledge. He discussed how people with rare cancer don t have that brilliant...researcher
who is the pick of the bunch for that particular cancer type. The Just A Little More Time report
released by Rare Cancer Australia in 2016 consists of statistics which clearly outlines the difference
between the survival rates of common and RLC cancers. It was observed that while the incidence rates
(number of diagnoses annually) of common cancers increased over the past decades, the mortality
rates (number of deaths annually) have declined significantly. This ratio of incidence to mortality
presented increasing survival rates, due to sufficient investment in their research and treatment.
However, the story is very different for the people diagnosed with RLC cancers. The incidence rates of
RLC cancers are closely followed by its mortality rates, both twice that of Australia s population
growth. Such circumstances suggested that survival rates of RLC cancers remain low as a
consequence of defective progress in diagnosis and treatment. Furthermore, inadequacy of treatment
funding for RLC cancers negatively impacted the treatment availability for RLC cancer patients.
Tracey Trumper, a survivor of breast cancer and non smoker, had to face yet another devastating news
of having diagnosed with a

Native American Culture In The 18th And 19th Century
In the United States, there are over 500 federally recognized American and Native tribes. All which
study and practice their own set of cultures and values. Religion, language, food and way of dress are
what makes every tribe different in their own unique way. The Indian Wars of both the 18th and 19th
century caused many of these tribes to relocate thus causing them to not only lose their homelands but
also their cultural identity. Native Americans were prohibited from practicing religion and cultural
ceremonies. This caused a recession in youth obtaining the knowledge to keep their cultural
renaissance alive and pass on their tribal dialects to future generations. Today, however Native
Americans are thriving at branding their youth with generation after generation of language, religion,
ceremonial tradition etc. The Native American culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the native women would stay behind and tend to the children and work. Their work not only consisted

Computer Literacy Narrative
Those were my first words. The task of creating a program which simply prints out Hello World is, by
tradition, the first one given to any new programmer. It s a rite of passage. The one seen above is

Computer literacy has played an extremely significant role in defining who I am today, in a more
unique and personal way than any traditional spoken language, and is set to define my future as well.

Arlington High School is truly lucky to have Mr. Sheldon, a former valedictorian at MIT, teaching
computer science. His class was revelatory for me in my freshman year. The course was centered
around learning to code in Processing through small projects. Under his guidance, I was able to make
dinky little games using the most basic programming techniques. I distinctly remember my sense of
accomplishment upon turning in a barely playable knockoff of Line Runner for my first independent
project of the year. Now, looking back on this code gives me anxiety. It was nothing more than a
bunch of redundant global variables and if statements blasphemous! However, my programming
practices did improve slightly over the year; I was making eventually using arrays and loops to
streamline my programs. Code is truly like a language one can see the progress of their computer
literacy in the quality of the code they write. The drive to learn programming which begun in this class
has led me to spend considerable amount of my free time furthering my literacy. I ve since dabbled in
many different programming languages on my own time, such as HTML to make websites and C# in
Unity to make video games. Now, my code is a chocolatey combination of classes and abstraction
which I can be truly proud

Summary Of Dr. Heidegger s Experiment By Nathaniel Hawthorne
People like to reflect on the past. Some enjoy it, and take pleasure in what they had accomplished and
done. Others look back in misery, and wish they could change it. However, in both cases, some may
long for it to come back. This may be because they want to be there again where it was perfect in their
eyes, or to change it, because their past is full of regret. One of these instances is the four old friends
from the short story Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The four, Mr. Medbourne,
Colonel Killigrew, Mr. Gascoigne, and Widow Wycherly, all had terrible pasts, and had extreme desire
to go back in time to fix it, which they almost did. The four want to change their past, and this brings
about the theme of it is impossible to change it. When the four enter the Doctor s house, they are
introduced to the reader as, They were all melancholy old creatures, who had been unfortunate in life,
and whose greatest misfortune it was that they were not long ago in their graves. Through this quote
Hawthorne is pointing out they were all failures in life. They all wished they were dead, their lives so
wasted and dreary. This shows their longing to change their past. They had been unfortunate in life,
and the fact they wanted to take the elixir to be young again shows they want to fix that. The narrator
also points out, And, before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

from the old friends the theme would not have come across. But, since they wanted to change their
past, the theme could get across that you cannot change it. Hawthorne used the failures and longing of
his characters to get across a deeper message, and without that longing of the characters his point may
have not gotten so clearly

Essay about Acoustic Theory and Synthesis
Acoustic Theory and Synthesis
Frequency:
Frequency means the number of cycles per second and depending on the amount of cycles per second
determines how high or low pitched the sound is and the time that it takes to complete one cycle is
called the period. Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz). And An average human is able to hear sounds
between 20Hz and 20,000Hz.
As the cycles per second increases, the smaller the wavelengths become, therefore there is a higher
frequency which will cause the pitch of the sound to increase or get higher.
If there is frequency of say 20KHz then it is going to be a much higher pitch than a 20Hz because
there is a lot more cycles per second.
Fundamentals:
A fundamental is the lowest frequency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is how long it take for the sound to fade out. An Example of a slow and fast release can be found on

reduce some frequencies from a signal. There are different types of filters that can be used. There are
different types of filters that can be used. There are also filters that can reject frequencies within a
certain frequency band e.g. band bass or band reject.
High Pass Filter: A High Pass filter lets through all the frequencies above the cutoff and eliminates the
ones below the cutoff frequency. An example of a HPF can be found on track 10 of my logic session. !
Low Pass Filter: A Low Pass filter lets through the frequencies below the cutoff frequency and
eliminates the ones above it. An Example of a low pass filter can be found on track 9 of my logic

Criminal Justice Criminology Essay
Criminal Justice Theorists attempted to find out a plausible scientific explanation to crime and
criminal behavior of individuals. At the same time, criminology emerged under the impact of other
sciences, such as psychology or sociology, for example. As a result, often criminology theories are
often intertwined with psychological or sociological concepts and theories as well as concepts and
theories from other sciences. The study of key works of criminology theorists can help to understand
better criminology, crime, criminal behavior and causes of crime. In this regard, it is possible the
distinct and persisting debate concerning causes of crimes and explanation of criminal behavior, which
is based on nature nurture debate, where internal factors, especially heredity, confront environmental,
external factors, such as social environment, economic position or social class of individuals, which
are viewed as determinant factors of criminal activities, but the development of polices related to such

In this regard, the problem of police violence is one of the burning issues that affect the quality of
policing and police community relationships. Cases of police violence become more and more
frequent that undermines the confidence of community in the police. Therefore, the resolution of this
problem is essential but the resolution of the problem is possible only on the condition of the
elimination of its causes. In this regard, causes of police violence are diverse and this problem may be
driven by different factors, such as social biases and prejudices, the different social class background
of police officers and their victims, and other factors, which basically prove that police violence is
caused by environmental factors and its resolution requires not only changes in policies but also in
social norms and culture to prevent social, gender, race and any other biases to resolve the problem

How Did Thomas Paine Attack The Monarchy By Thomas Paine
In the primary document Thomas Paine Attacks The Monarchy it talks about how Thomas Paine
attacked the monarchy by Common Sense. I feel as if this document really adds to what the textbook
has to say about what Thomas Paine did to make him such an important person in history. It is always
nice to get the perspective from people who were actually there. Thomas Paine s pamphlet Common
Sense is seen as one of the worlds most influential documentaries of all time. One of the reasons
Common Sense was so popular was because unlike many writers from his time Paine used a lot of
common sense arguments that average people could understand. Thomas Paine wrote the pamphlet
Common Sense in 1775 and it was published in January of 1776. The main impact of this pamphlet is
known as a way to help cause the American colonists to decide to fight for independence. Common
Sense challenged the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy. So if Thomas Paine
would have never wrote this the Americans may have never decided to fight for their independence. In
this primary document Thomas Paine states how corrupt the relation between the colonists and
England is, and how it needs to change. He starts off by saying how even though everyone is born
equal, people are not being treated equal. He says this is due to the fact that the rich oppress the poor.
Another reason for this he states is because we assign people as kings which is giving these people
more power. He states how it

Money And Class In America By Lewis Lapham
Money talks is an expression many form as a simple analogy to the problem associated with wealth
today. However, the value of money is not to be taken in vain as money does not always showcase the
attributes of knowledge and power. At the same time, those who do possess money do, in some cases,
possess the attributes commonly associated with the wealthier class. Money and Class in America
wrote by Lewis Lapham in 1988, showcases the pessimistic feelings Lapham has towards the
American faith in money. Lapham believes that Americans are at a loss to hold the majesty of money
at bay. Though I agree with Lapham to a point, I also believe that the assumptions of Americans do
apply to a point. Americans have always looked to their relatively ... Show more content on

In the case of money, it is corruption. Some would argue that money is the root of all problems, and
that there is no instance where money doesn t cause corruption. This threat is constant in the media
today: the election, the celebrities, the news. These and many more are considered corrupted by a
source of great wealth, being that the cantaditas pay for votes, the celebrities are paid for their acting
in the media, and the news stations are paid by different political parties to represent them in
broadcasts. Sadly, as this does occur, many people are represented for their money and not for their
talent due to the overvaluing of money in America. It is most definitely true that corruption does occur
as a result of money, but not to a complete extent. While these instances do occur in today s world,
there is reform in action as well as the fact that not all Americans are led towards this path of
deception. It is true that many people are drawn towards money when it comes to picking a leader or
immersing oneself in the media, there are many cases of Americans going towards those who
exemplify ideals similar to their own over those who have larger supplies of wealth. This paves the
way to the realization that not all Americans overvalue

Aseptic Technique Essay
This essay it will explain the Aseptic Technique and how it is used to prevent the spread of infection in
wounds. It will also give a personal experience of performing the technique.
Hart (2004) states the principle of Aseptic Technique is to prevent the spread of micro organisms to
wounds and to protects the nurse and patient from healthcare associated infections (HCIA). The
technique used for less invasive procedures such as intravenous drugs and wound care is the Aseptic
No touch Technique (ANTT) (Pratt et al 2007).
The key aspects of this skill are consent, preparation and prevention. The nurse must obtain consent
from the patient and explain the procedure. The patient must be made comfortable and placed in a

I found my first introduction to ANTT interesting. I enjoy practical sessions and find it a good source
of learning. When being shown ANTT I thought that the Donning/wearing of gloves may cause
problems due to cross contamination, however once tried I found the process relatively simple. Very
quickly I adjusted to the process and refrained from touching hair/clothes
The purpose of the ANTT is to protect the patient and nurse from infection and to prevent the spread
of pathogens. This can have a huge effect on the recovery rate of the patient. HCIA can mean a longer
stay or readmission to hospital and in some cases lead to disability or death (Hart 2007). This
information suggests that the ANTT is not being carried out correctly and Department of Health
(2005) support this by stating that 9% of patients contract HCAI s per year in UK hospitals.
I recognise that with my own experience it can be quite easy to cause cross contamination, correct
hand washing is vital as it is one of the main cause for the increase of infections in hospitals. I thought
that washing your hands was quite straight forward until I used the ultra violet light and saw the places
that I missed. I now practise the seven stages of hand washing ensuring I clean my hands correctly
reducing the risk of cross contamination.
I know that with continued practice I shall carry out the ANTT confidently and without making
mistakes, remembering to dispose of items correctly. I have also

Directional Selection Vs Disruptive Selection Essay
1. Compare and contrast directional selection and disruptive selection and provide an example of each.
In Disruptive selection two extreme phenotypes are favored. The greater distribution is split between
both extreme phenotypes, which will form a two humped bell type curve. An example of Disruptive
selection: Birds have long beaks that are good for getting nectar from flowers, birds with small beaks
are good at cracking seeds, and birds that have medium beaks can do both but not as good. The birds
with long and short beaks will be the two extreme phenotypes favored. Eventually all the birds will

Most of the ill causing bacteria will be killed but the ones that don t die, carry a gene or genes that
allows them to withstand the antibiotic. These bacteria are better adapted to deal with the antibiotic.
This adaptation will become stronger as it is passed. When these bacteria reproduce, they will pass the
genes on to the next generation and the next generation bacteria better adapted against the antibiotic.
The more they reproduce, the more antibiotic resistant bacteria will be in the individual eventually
becoming totally resistant. This is an example of directional selection in the natural selection process.
The bacteria with the resistant genes would become the favored extreme phenotype.

There are several major trends that developed in the vertebrate group that has allowed the transition

thought the world ought to hear their opinions. ...and who would have expected it? said one. Excellent
news, of course; Camelot boasts some rare fine wines I ve been longing to plunder for years! Rare fine
wines, indeed. She pretended to glance around, quickly taking note of the men in question. One,
perhaps the one who had just spoken, was scratching his beard with a conspiratorial air, as though he
had signed the Treaty himself. The second, impossibly thin for his age, had a stoop to his shoulders
and rough skin. The thin man nodded. Indeed! I rather feared there would be no peace given their
history, and what with that mad woman on the run... Oh, she hasn t been seen since Ismere, don t
worry about that... ...trying to steal the Throne of Camelot, who on earth does she think she is?
Morgana took a deep breath and forced herself to stare at the ostentatious hat of a man standing not far
forward. These men, probably merchants, cared for nothing but the continuation of their business with
minimal disturbance, so of course her frequent declarations of war against Camelot were inconvenient.
Fine. They could be forgiven for misunderstanding that rather than stealing Camelot s Throne, she was
simply reclaiming her rightful inheritance. Once they understood the righteousness

Dr Pepper Snapple Inc: Energy Drinks
MKTG 5320
Wesley Gordon
Introduction
In the ever changing world of customer needs and expectations Dr Pepper Snapple was faced with an
increased customer focus on energy drinks. This area, when exploited correctly, is a high growth and
high margin beverage business. In early September 2007, Andrew Baker had his marching orders. He
emerged out a long discussion about entering the energy drink business and off he went.
First let s understand that an energy drink simply does as its title suggest, gives the consumer energy.
This is accomplished most of the time with caffeine from a guarana bean. Some of the other players in
this market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be company strengths, current market penistrationpenetration, supplier agreements and
simply all of the business and/or customer loyalties that they have had. Also in today s market the
consumers are looking for the next new thing . They no longer want an extension of what they already
have. The consumers are loyal to a company, but can quickly change focus if a company fails to
continue to change to meet their needs and/or demands for change.
3. Do nothing
Dr Pepper could always do nothing at this time. During the stand down they could evaluate mergers,
joint ventures, or buyouts as they market strengthens.
Making a decision Given the track record of Dr Pepper Snapple and looking at the SWOT analysis I
feel that Dr Pepper should introduce an entire new product line. They can leverage their ability to
manage a diverse brand business, the leverage they have in the RTD segment, and the strengths that
the business as a whole has.
Implement the choice FDr Pepper has a great opportunity to penetrate the energy drink market. They
could quickly take a major market share and continue to support the ever changing customer needs
and ever changing expectations. The only remaining concept is how to do it.
1. Target Market Selection Who is to be serviced needs to be determined. Target heavy users, all users,
or even what age and gender to focus on.
2. Product Line and Positioning Choice The product line itself has to be determined. Is it

My Father Was a Paradox Essay
I ll miss my father, I already miss him, greatly... I ll miss his stories, his laughter, the fire of his
opinions, and especially the quiet strength of him. Yet, I think it s one of the truths of the world that
the people we miss the most are also the ones that we can t miss, because we carry so much of them
with us.
My father was something of a paradox. On the one hand he stands out in my mind for his stories, his
wit, and the fire of his opinions. Anyone who s argued with him, and that s quite a few of us, knew
that he had strong opinions and argued them with zeal. On the other hand, at the same time, he was a
quiet man, who kept a lot of what he felt on the inside, someone who taught more by example than by
lecture.
Did he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We never discussed it again, but what he said affected me all my life. For questions like that he didn t
teach by giving me the answers, but by getting me to ask the questions and answer them myself.
I ll never, in this life at least, be able to go to him for any more answers, but as long as I live, I ll do
what he taught me... ask the questions, think, and find my own answers. And in my heart and in my
memory, he ll be there by example, guiding me. And with him will be his stories. He was full of
stories. There was nothing he didn t have a story or a joke for. And he was always such a wonderful
subject for stories.
I cannot forget his tale about sneaking into the doctor s office with his friend so they could memorize
the eye chart and pass the medical exam to join the Navy. Stories that end with a father looking down
at a little boy, dazed, scared and bruised and saying simply, Don t do that. You could hurt yourself.
Stories about the man who unscrewed the table leg that came between him and the pretty woman
sitting next to him at a dinner party. Stories about the fellow, out sailing, faced with bad weather
rolling in who looks up and yells, Knock it off, Lord. only to have the weather roll away. Stories about
anchors thrown overboard before they were tied to the anchor rode.
I could tell stories about that man

Fly Away Peter, David Malouf Essay
Fly Away Peter
In what ways does David Malouf use interesting literary techniques in Fly Away Peter to explore ideas

Throughout Fly Away Peter Malouf utilises a variety of literary techniques such as contrast, Imagery,
Symbolism and foreshadowing to portray ideas and themes. The title Fly Away Peter makes reference
to the traditional English nursery rhyme Two Little Dickie Birds . Moulaf utilises this nursery rhyme
to make the connection between themes within Fly Away Peter and everyday life.

The invisible paddock talked about in the first sentence is foreshadowing of the introduction of the
two planes of life. Moulaf is also using symbolism. The invisible paddock symbolises the sky, and as
later introduced the view from the sky is the second plane of life.
Moulaf has used the lines; One named Peter, One named Paul to link the characters of the book to the
religious views and ways of living in the 1960 s. In the 1750 s the rhyme Two Little Dickie Birds
talked of two birds names Jack and Gill, in the early 1900 s the names were changed to the disciples
Peter and Paul . In Fly away Peter Moulaf has used this link between the birds name to introduce the
religious connections. The bird peter symbioses Jim and Paul symbolises Ashley in the context of Fly
away Peter .
Throughout the novel Moulaf uses the literary technique of narration to tell parts of the story. The
world Jim found himself in... this narrator figure symbolises God. Jim and Ashley also symbolise
angels. This references the first quote Moulaf placed in the front of the novel. The divine creature is an
angel. Jim and Ashley are angels incarnated in a human form, and the flying away is the time on earth
and the coming back is the return to heaven. In the novel Jim dies from injuries sustained form a
battle, and in this the cycle of his life is complete and he returns to heaven.

the Hospital. Unlike in The Giver, the parents in Slated took the mission to investigate Kyla s
activities, thoughts and to work as reminders of the rules in a different way.
Kyla s father represents the exemplary advocator of the government; he is the one to put Kyla under
pressure of the rules most of the time. During many incidents, he attempts to understand what the
mind of Kyla has been reasoning. Kyla and other slated children are supposed to report any one who is
annoying them because it is considered as an offence against the state. Kyla did not report Phoebe,
who was uttering things against the government by calling Kyla government spy with a cheap in the

understand that Phoebe is the one who was harassing his child. As a result, Phoebe was detained and

marks three acts of resistance. First, he rejects his predetermined position as the receiver of memory.
Then, the memories have awakened his irrational instinct of love that was suppressed by the state.
Ultimately, his love leads him to deflate the Elders decision of releasing the little Gabriel. At the end,
he marks an act of resistance to his subjectivity by choosing to escape. Saul Newman argues in his

Children with special needs should spend most time with non disabled children Children with special
needs are slightly different from non disabled kids, but they re should not be a barrier between non
disabled children and children with disabilities. Special needs covers a wide range. Some children
with physical disabilities use wheelchair, or cane while other children with learning disabilities such
as, autism, or emotional disorder. Children with special needs are like all children they want to make
friends. Non disability children want respect, love, good education and job of their dream. Children
with special needs can do the same things non disabled kid do, but it can take them longer. It requires
additional explanation or attention. Parents of children with special needs usually feel isolated and
uncertain about their child s future. Schools can help them find support that children are not alone and
help is available. Teachers should meet with parents in order to get to know the children better, the
specific of their children. Special teachers may come into the class to work one on one with the
student, for individualized attention. Change begins with an honest examination of understandings,
knowledge and belief. Children with special needs should spend more time with non disabled kids.

The two symptoms that Amanda Todd exhibits is: Feeling of worthlessness or Guilt, and Depressed
mood brought about, by a mistake she had done when she was 7th grade which was flashing her boobs
in the internet, the symptoms at this point was only at the distress criteria maybe level 2 to 3 because
she was out going and vibrant before the incident until she was called out then she felt oh well I made
a mistake I have to pay for it life goes on. Then she felt alone and left out or she feels she does not fit
in anymore after she was called out by a cyber bully who showed her nude pictures to everyone she
knew, including the police. Therefore she had to move to another city. After a time she said she was
doing better until this person again found her and her symptoms again appeared .This action
manifested these symptoms to show itself as signs of depression and moved the level to about 5
making it dysfunctional. The start of her feelings of spiraling out of control with the mistake of

During the transition into the new millennium, a number of factors including new technology, sports
personalities, and originality of new fans, led to the media destruction of modern sports. The media
changed professional and amateur athletics into businesses rather than into moralistic entertainment
while disgracefully exploiting higher education and individuals in the sporting world. The press has
also produced a new set of ideals and attitudes in the fans and players of popular sports (Torr 49).What
began in the transition to the new millennium is now an ever occurring phenomenon that plagues the
wide world of sports. While it is true that the media occasionally broadcasts stories of unlikely
successes and cordial charity, it consistently publicizes the most shameful and less copious actions of
certain athletes and leagues. One of the most prolific examples derives from the National Football
League, which has a substantial problem with regulating touchdown celebrations and dances. Rather
than help control the problem, the media feels the need to emphasize the celebrations more so than the
actual plays. Athletes have engaged in line dances, dice rolling, fake photo shoots, air guitar playing,
and many other imprudent dances and actions. The most notable occasions (thanks to the media)

Causes And Consequences Of Malaria
Today, the leading cause of death and most serious health concern in Nigeria is Malaria. All but 10%
of malaria cases in the tropical African region occur in Nigeria. Malaria accounts for 30% of deaths in
children below the age of five, a quarter of deaths in infants, and just above ten percent of deaths in
mothers (1, 7). Common symptoms of malaria in adults are headaches, weakness, fever, aches, high
temperatures and loss of appetite. In children excess sleeping, nausea, and vomiting are additional
symptoms (7). The burden of malaria in Nigerian is tremendous due to its detrimental impact on the
physical and emotional health of the people and on the economic growth of the country.
Malaria is caused by the bite of an anopheles gambiae mosquito with a plasmodium parasite inside.
There are four different protozoa, all part of the plasmodium genus, that can cause malaria:
Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malaria, and Plasmodium falciparum. In Nigeria
98% of cases of malaria are due to the P. falciparum species, which causes the most severe form of
malaria resulting in death (3). Nigeria is affected by malaria severely due to its climate, 70 90 degrees
Fahrenheit and at least 60 percent humidity. As the temperature increases the parasite within the
mosquito grows increasingly faster. Another factor that is responsible for the severity of malaria in
Nigeria is the rainfall which leads to pools of standing water which in turn become breeding areas for
mosquitoes

Tim O’Brien s Going After Cacciato Essay
Going After Cacciato, an epic novel written by Tim O Brien, is about a platoon of men going away
without leave (AWOL) searching for a young man named Cacciato in the imagination of a man of the
platoon named Paul Berlin. In Going After Cacciato the tea party, between the AWOL platoon and Li
Van Hgoc contributes greatly to the novel by adding to the confusion and teaching the reader how to
deal with the war and the noise.
The first thing that this tea party does is that it introduces the reader to Li Van Hgoc. The response of
Paul Berlin to Li Van Hgoc and his party was a falling feeling, a slipping, and . . . being high in the
tower by the sea. This sets the novel as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through meeting Li Van Hgoc the reader learns the true enemy in the novel. According to Li Van
Hgoc, The land is your true enemy. He mentions that the soldier is the representative of the land and
the land is also fighting a battle. Through listening to Li Van Hgoc at the tea party the platoon realizes
the land actually is the enemy and notices the natural defenses: the tunnels, dangerous trails, the land
mines, the hedges and paddies, and the jungle itself. The platoon thought that their enemy were the
Vietcong, but they began to come to the realization that the Vietcong used the land; what they were
protecting, why they were fighting, how they were fighting, to destroy foreign troops sent there. Li
Van Hgoc telling the platoon of Xa, meaning community, soil, home, that a man s spirit is in the land,
where his ancestors rest and where the rice grows, helped show that the land was the true enemy.
Also through Li Van Hgoc the reader learns one of the most important lessons of the novel, to Look
closer. Concentrate. Going After Cacciato is a confusing mess filled with noise in the background,
foreground, and whatever middle ground there may be. The reader of this novel must read between the
lines to understand. They must Look closer.

Analysis Of Freedom Writers
Freedom Writers, directed by Richard LaGravenese, is a true story about the legendary class 203 of
Woodrow Wilson High School. With the help of first time teacher Erin Gruwell, who is portrayed
through actress Hilary Swank, the class of misfits and outcasts discover life in a new light, and they
learn to join together as one against the world instead of many ( Freedom Writers ). The touching story
sends the message that anything is achievable if one has the right mindset and determination for it, no
matter one s race or situation. Erin Gruwell has earned a job teaching English for the first time, and
her co workers opinions on the students she will be teaching are extremely low. The school had
applied an integration program a couple years prior, which caused much disdain among the teaching
staff. However, despite remaining her positive outlook, she realizes she has a lot more to handle
among her students because of their constant violent means and hatred for each other. The majority of
the students are affiliated with gangs and have extremely challenging lives at home. When a
controversial death threatens to tear the class apart, a simple game with a not so simple message from
Ms. Gruwell is able to bring them back together. Discovering that many of the students shared
important situations in common was the key to getting along with one another. The class also bonds
over their research over the Holocaust, in which they care so much about the topic that they

The Causes Of Global Warming
Global Warming
Humans are the most influential causes of global warming. This is mainly happening because of the
carbon pollution spreading throughout the atmosphere caused by burning fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide
and many other chemicals released into the atmosphere act like a blanket which traps the heat of the
sun and causes the planet to get warmer. From 2000 to 2009 it was the hottest decade in the past 1,200
years (according to the National Climate Assessment). This is changing everything about Earth, from
land, atmosphere, oceans, and ice. This causes extreme weather, polluted air, wildlife extinction, and
even diseases due to the warmer weather. Global warming is a huge problem in our world today and
we must try to lessen the affects by encouraging the government to spend its attention more on global
warming programs, informational ads, and websites in order to keep the world safe and to secure a
better future. As sea and land experience fast changes, the organisms that inhabit them are challenged
if they do not adapt fast enough. Many freshwater, land, and ocean species are moving to colder
climates in order to escape the heat. They are also changing migrational patterns and seasonal
behaviors. Many animals can die from these experiences and some species can even go extinct. A
2015 study from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change presented that vertebrate species like
birds, fish, and reptiles are disappearing 114 times faster than they should be and this

Essay on Lipids and Carbohydrates
Lipids and Carbohydrates
Lipids are a group of substances, which include fats, oils and waxes. Carbohydrates include sugars,
starches, glycogen and cellulose. They are stored in plants as starches and in animals as glycogen.
There are many differences between carbohydrates and lipids. For example lipids are insoluble in
water whereas carbohydrates are soluble in water. This is because lipids contain non polar
hydrocarbon units whereas water contains polar hydrocarbon units. So when the two are mixed
together there is no attraction between particles so no breakdown is possible. But lipids care soluble in
non polar solvents, e.g. alcohol. Carbohydrates have polar hydroxyl groups, so there ... Show more

B. Using examples to illustrate your answer, describe the functions of lipids in organism.
Lipids are a useful energy source. They are also an energy store, since they are insoluble in water and
have a high energy content it makes them ideal for storage. This energy store is used make up for heat,
movement and energy lost by respiration. This energy store is also useful in plants (e.g. sunflower)
because it is needed for seed dispersion. Lipids can also be used as insulation. Fat insulates the body
because it conducts heat slowly. This type of energy store can be seen with polar bears, for example.
They have a thick layer of fat beneath their skin for insulation. Some mammals, e.g. whales or
penguins, don t have fur like polar bears do so they need extra insulation called blubber because there
is no fur there to trap air and to insulate further. The insulating feature of lipids also protects internal
organs. Lipids also store energy useful for hibernation. Phospholipids are the major components in cell
membranes; they are ideal for this due to their ability to be permeable with some substances but
impermeable to others. Oils and waxes prevent evaporation through the skin or through the leaves of
plants. Another important function of lipids is that

Sociological Concepts
The study of societies throughout the world at different periods in history is important to
understanding human behaviors. Even though most sociological studies are conducted on broad topics
such as crime, poverty, gender, and ethnicity it is important to consider specific events that occur.
These events provide examples and evidence towards concepts and theories that are developed to
explain why people act a certain way in society. In the world today there are several issues and events

perspective. The Islamic State has proven that the use of social and mass media are effective means to
influence people into curiosity. That curiosity is then exploited by radicalization to perform the

Beowulf as Christian Propaganda
The literary work of Beowulf is believed, by many, to contain numerous attributes of Christian
propaganda. Throughout the story of Beowulf, there are several circumstances and coincidences that
distinctly relate to the Christian belief system. One can only imagine that these ideas of Christian
propaganda; which include the use of Christian themes and beliefs in works of literary art, were
strategically placed throughout the story of Beowulf to help the conversion from the old world pagan
religious belief system to the Christian beliefs of the new world. Historians believe that Beowulf was
written sometime in the eighth century in England. This fact is important because during this era,
society was in the process of converting from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Beowulf may represent Christ in this part of the story, it can be viewed that Grendel represents
the devil. The battle between Beowulf and Grendel can represent the Christian theme of good versus
evil. To make the connection even more solid, Grendel is referred to as a descendant of Cain, whom
Satan tricks into sinning and committing the first murder in the human world. Grendel represents the
image of a man fallen from grace through sin. Like Satan who is jealous of the happiness and joy that
Adam and Eve have in the Garden of Eden, Grendel is jealous of the happiness and joy in Heorot.
Grendel, as with Satan, is a rival of God and poses a great challenge to Beowulf, just as evil poses a
challenge to Christians. Another connection that Grendel shares with the devil is his dwelling. Grendel
lives in an underworld just as Satan lives in hell. Grendel is referred to in the poem as the guardian of
sins . These small hints of the Christian culture to come are a way of slowly introducing the Christian
beliefs to the common people, and perhaps getting them ready for the introduction of the stories of
Jesus and his teachings. This way, they have something to relate the stories of Jesus to, and the ideas
of Jesus are not so new and shocking. Perhaps the strongest relation to Christianity in Beowulf is in
the last battle scene of the story. The dragon is Beowulf s last and most intriguing battle. The dragon

Dealing with Controversial Mascots
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines mascot as, a person, animal, or object used as a symbol to
represent a group (such as a sports team) and to bring good luck. Hopeful sports teams around the
United States rely on their mascots to bring in positive energy as motivation to help win the game. The
mascot often serves as the face of a team, and acts to define the team s character to their opponents.
The mascots represent the community that the team belongs to, and that is a big role. When a mascot
is offensive or isolates a particular group of people, the mascot can also bring negative attention to the
team. The negative publicity will often result in a mascot change. Many of the most controversial

colour of their uniform. Considering the root of those jerseys was meant to imitate the native people s

Warriors were deemed offensive by the students because rainbows are associated with the gay
community. In response to this controversy, the university allowed each team to pick it s own mascot,
most teams are known simply as the Warriors, while others chose to take a more progressive approach.
The basketball team is still known as the Rainbow Warriors, but the baseball team, perhaps the most
tolerant, is simply known as the Rainbows. For St. Bonaventure University, the name change was
brought on by embarrassment. The men s teams were known as the Brown Indians, which is offensive

informed them that the name was their word for vagina, a fitting term for a women s team, although
not family friendly. Not all controversial mascots are related to the American Indians. The University
of California at Santa Barbara is cheered on by Olé the Gaucho, referring to Latinos from South
America. The name is not as offensive, possibly because it is a specific character that happens to be

Anthropologists Should Put More Emphasis On Individual...
Anthropologists should put more emphasis on individual differences and meanings that are not shared.
Culture is composed of individuals. We know that the individual is an important part of any culture
because cultures are not uniform they differ from one another and they differ from themselves over
time. This difference is a product of the inherent uniqueness of the individuals who compose a culture
and no science that claims to study culture could be considered a true science if it ignored the building
blocks of the subject it is studying. Clifford Geertz shares his views on culture in his essay, Thick
Description: Toward an Interpretive Theory of Culture (1973), he views culture in a sort of public act
in which people express themselves using various signs and symbols which have suggested cultural
meaning far from an abstract psychological construct. Culture is embodied in the person who acts in a
certain context and culture is revealed in this person s actions and his interpretation of their meaning.
Culture in this sense is concrete and public, and not something which exists in people s individual
minds. In my opinion, how each individual perceives their history is an art of construction. History by
definition is the whole series of past events connected with a particular person or a past characterized
by a particular thing (Dictionary.com n.d.). History is what it is at this present time because of people,
the actions and decisions each individual has made

Reading And Reflecting On Michael Lewis The Big Short
Reading and Reflecting on Michael Lewis The Big Short For Commercial Bank Management class I

Eisman is like the little reminder that pops up along the way to let Macbeth know that he is not on the

shows, has been the voice of conscience on Wall Street for some time, admitting to the unconscionable
whether the head of a large U.S. brokerage firm or the president of a large Japanese real estate firm
that their own dealings fail to make any sense. In the world, there are two types of people, those who
say yes and everything else you want to hear and those who say the truth. Eisman, however, is the
latter type. Vinny Daniel is another. Hired by Arthur Andersen, his job as an accountant was to account

reality, his job was to rubber stamp and approve all that such firms set before him. There is regulation

works: He concluded that there was effectively no way for an accountant assigned to audit a giant
Wall Street firm to figure out whether it was making money or losing money (Lewis 11).

Descriptive Essay On A Day In The Forest
The bus took turn after turn as I admired the green wilderness. I never knew that such beauty existed

nodded in agreement but no one asked why. While everyone was busy making their tents; I was taking
a lot of pictures, mostly the pictures of the natural beauty. The tall, brown trees with long thin
branches were wrapped with green climbers which were the only shelter in here and the low
whisperings of the nearby stream sounded so pleasant. The beauty of the peacock, the merry monkeys
swinging from trees to trees, and the rabbits scurrying into hiding; the flock of ducks moving in and
out of the stream and the colourful birds that were flying high in the blue sky were a sight worth
admiring. As I wandered off deep into the forest, I witnessed the dark side of this natural beauty... irate
wild animals and the angry nature. The menacing howls of wild animals and the angry roar of the
lions made me sweat copiously. The sly foxes were closely keeping an eye on my movements. These
cruel animals were frightening the living daylight out of me. Looking here and there, I tried to find a

  • 4. Comparison Between Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet... The first movie ever made was The Horse in Motion which was created by Eadweard Muybridge in 1878. I hope to see people talk about the events that happen in the movie, and how they end up affecting the events of the story. In my speech I will analyze multiple movies, the elements in them, and how the actions of the characters in them affect the story. I choose to do it this way, so people can have some examples, and know things to look for. There are two movies I will mainly focus on they are Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Pulp Fiction. I will also talk about other movies, but they are not my main focus. I will do this do hopeful convince you that there is more to a movie then what you can see. I shall begin every analyzation of the movies will a short summary of them. Now with further ado I shall give a short short summary of Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of fleet street. There are three characters i m going to focus on in Sweeney Todd, and they are Sweeney Todd, Lucy, and Johanna. Sweeney Todd AKA Benjamin Barker is a barber on Fleet street in London. Lucy is Todd s wife that s her main point for now. Johanna is their daughter. Early in the story Benjamin gets sent away by the judge who wants Lucy for himself. Lucy is then alone, and is sent to a masquerade by the judge s assistant. Where something bad happens to her. She then later poisons herself. Johanna was taken away by the judge and he adopted her. Fifteen years past and Benjamin Barker comes back as Sweeney Todd. He also bring alongs Anthony who helped him on his travels. He goes back to where is barber shop was, and meets Ms.Lovett. She tells him that Lucy poisoned herself. Todds like i m gonna kill that judge, Which he ends up doing. Also Ms.Lovett makes the meat pies out of humans. Now that you know the parts of the story that you need to know i can begin the analysis. There is a crazed lady outside where Johanna is kept. Anthony talks to her and he asked who is that lady in the window, and she knew that that was Johanna. She is then seen outside of Ms. Lovett s meat pie shop, and says she see that sign of the devil outside of it. Ms.Lovett kicks her out multiple times because she is on to her. • 5. Aura Dam Research Paper Aura is a meager, agriculture based town. There s not a lot to keep one occupied in Aura, the adults raise their crops and drink coffee, the teenagers work for a rancher or farmer until the work day end, they then consequently take boats out to the local dam. The dam, Aura Dam, is the main attraction of the meager, agriculture filled town. The dam holds some appeal to everyone, whether it be young children, adolescents, or adults. During the latter part of the day, usually occurring in the latter part of the week, children love to play on the sand banks while their older siblings are splashing around in the refreshing, dark water as a troop of mothers oversee the youth as they frolic around on the waterfront. • 6. A Case Study Of Rare And Less Common Cancers During the previous year, 42,000 Australians were diagnosed with rare or less common (RLC) cancers and a staggering 24,000 patients died from it. Australia is known to have one of the best cancer survival rates, so how is this happening in our society? Although research and treatment of common cancers such as breast cancer have been efficiently funded by the government, RLC cancers are lacking substantially in all aspects. This issue needs to be addressed as it has led to critical deficiencies in the scientific establishment of rare cancers, significantly lower survival rates and difficulties in treatmentment access. In order to prevent the existence of such inequalities, it is vital that the government must provide supplementary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rare Cancers Australia chairman Richard Vines affirmed, ...the lack of research means the lack of clinical knowledge. He discussed how people with rare cancer don t have that brilliant...researcher who is the pick of the bunch for that particular cancer type. The Just A Little More Time report released by Rare Cancer Australia in 2016 consists of statistics which clearly outlines the difference between the survival rates of common and RLC cancers. It was observed that while the incidence rates (number of diagnoses annually) of common cancers increased over the past decades, the mortality rates (number of deaths annually) have declined significantly. This ratio of incidence to mortality presented increasing survival rates, due to sufficient investment in their research and treatment. However, the story is very different for the people diagnosed with RLC cancers. The incidence rates of RLC cancers are closely followed by its mortality rates, both twice that of Australia s population growth. Such circumstances suggested that survival rates of RLC cancers remain low as a consequence of defective progress in diagnosis and treatment. Furthermore, inadequacy of treatment funding for RLC cancers negatively impacted the treatment availability for RLC cancer patients. Tracey Trumper, a survivor of breast cancer and non smoker, had to face yet another devastating news of having diagnosed with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All which study and practice their own set of cultures and values. Religion, language, food and way of dress are what makes every tribe different in their own unique way. The Indian Wars of both the 18th and 19th century caused many of these tribes to relocate thus causing them to not only lose their homelands but also their cultural identity. Native Americans were prohibited from practicing religion and cultural ceremonies. This caused a recession in youth obtaining the knowledge to keep their cultural renaissance alive and pass on their tribal dialects to future generations. Today, however Native Americans are thriving at branding their youth with generation after generation of language, religion, ceremonial tradition etc. The Native American culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hispanic Americans may not have been kicked off their homeland and prohibited to study and teach religion but they too have had to fight for their freedom. The Natives fought for their land and the mexicans fought for territory. Different yet same. Decades ago, in the hispanic culture, the females were raised to tend to the children and the men. Young females were considered women at very young ages and were expected to get married and bear children. The men would go out and work to put food on the table. • 9. Summary Of Dr. Heidegger s Experiment By Nathaniel Hawthorne People like to reflect on the past. Some enjoy it, and take pleasure in what they had accomplished and done. Others look back in misery, and wish they could change it. However, in both cases, some may long for it to come back. This may be because they want to be there again where it was perfect in their eyes, or to change it, because their past is full of regret. One of these instances is the four old friends from the short story Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The four, Mr. Medbourne, Colonel Killigrew, Mr. Gascoigne, and Widow Wycherly, all had terrible pasts, and had extreme desire to go back in time to fix it, which they almost did. The four want to change their past, and this brings about the theme of it is impossible to change it. When the four enter the Doctor s house, they are introduced to the reader as, They were all melancholy old creatures, who had been unfortunate in life, and whose greatest misfortune it was that they were not long ago in their graves. Through this quote Hawthorne is pointing out they were all failures in life. They all wished they were dead, their lives so wasted and dreary. This shows their longing to change their past. They had been unfortunate in life, and the fact they wanted to take the elixir to be young again shows they want to fix that. The narrator also points out, And, before ... I feel as if this document really adds to what the textbook has to say about what Thomas Paine did to make him such an important person in history. It is always nice to get the perspective from people who were actually there. Thomas Paine s pamphlet Common Sense is seen as one of the worlds most influential documentaries of all time. One of the reasons Common Sense was so popular was because unlike many writers from his time Paine used a lot of common sense arguments that average people could understand. Thomas Paine wrote the pamphlet Common Sense in 1775 and it was published in January of 1776. The main impact of this pamphlet is known as a way to help cause the American colonists to decide to fight for independence. Common Sense challenged the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy. So if Thomas Paine would have never wrote this the Americans may have never decided to fight for their independence. In this primary document Thomas Paine states how corrupt the relation between the colonists and England is, and how it needs to change. During the transition into the new millennium, a number of factors including new technology, sports personalities, and originality of new fans, led to the media destruction of modern sports. The media changed professional and amateur athletics into businesses rather than into moralistic entertainment while disgracefully exploiting higher education and individuals in the sporting world. The press has also produced a new set of ideals and attitudes in the fans and players of popular sports (Torr 49).What began in the transition to the new millennium is now an ever occurring phenomenon that plagues the wide world of sports. While it is true that the media occasionally broadcasts stories of unlikely successes and cordial charity, it consistently publicizes the most shameful and less copious actions of certain athletes and leagues. One of the most prolific examples derives from the National Football League, which has a substantial problem with regulating touchdown celebrations and dances. Rather than help control the problem, the media feels the need to emphasize the celebrations more so than the actual plays. Athletes have engaged in line dances, dice rolling, fake photo shoots, air guitar playing, and many other imprudent dances and actions. The most notable occasions (thanks to the media) include: Joe Horn removing a cell phone from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Causes And Consequences Of Malaria Today, the leading cause of death and most serious health concern in Nigeria is Malaria. All but 10% of malaria cases in the tropical African region occur in Nigeria. Malaria accounts for 30% of deaths in children below the age of five, a quarter of deaths in infants, and just above ten percent of deaths in mothers (1, 7). Common symptoms of malaria in adults are headaches, weakness, fever, aches, high temperatures and loss of appetite. In children excess sleeping, nausea, and vomiting are additional symptoms (7). The burden of malaria in Nigerian is tremendous due to its detrimental impact on the physical and emotional health of the people and on the economic growth of the country. Malaria is caused by the bite of an anopheles gambiae mosquito with a plasmodium parasite inside. There are four different protozoa, all part of the plasmodium genus, that can cause malaria: Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malaria, and Plasmodium falciparum. In Nigeria 98% of cases of malaria are due to the P. falciparum species, which causes the most severe form of malaria resulting in death (3). Nigeria is affected by malaria severely due to its climate, 70 90 degrees Fahrenheit and at least 60 percent humidity. As the temperature increases the parasite within the mosquito grows increasingly faster. Another factor that is responsible for the severity of malaria in Nigeria is the rainfall which leads to pools of standing water which in turn become breeding areas for mosquitoes ... Tim O’Brien s Going After Cacciato Essay Going After Cacciato, an epic novel written by Tim O Brien, is about a platoon of men going away without leave (AWOL) searching for a young man named Cacciato in the imagination of a man of the platoon named Paul Berlin. In Going After Cacciato the tea party, between the AWOL platoon and Li Van Hgoc contributes greatly to the novel by adding to the confusion and teaching the reader how to deal with the war and the noise. The first thing that this tea party does is that it introduces the reader to Li Van Hgoc. The response of Paul Berlin to Li Van Hgoc and his party was a falling feeling, a slipping, and . . . being high in the tower by the sea. This sets the novel as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through meeting Li Van Hgoc the reader learns the true enemy in the novel. According to Li Van Hgoc, The land is your true enemy. He mentions that the soldier is the representative of the land and the land is also fighting a battle. Through listening to Li Van Hgoc at the tea party the platoon realizes the land actually is the enemy and notices the natural defenses: the tunnels, dangerous trails, the land mines, the hedges and paddies, and the jungle itself. The platoon thought that their enemy were the Vietcong, but they began to come to the realization that the Vietcong used the land; what they were protecting, why they were fighting, how they were fighting, to destroy foreign troops sent there. Li Van Hgoc telling the platoon of Xa, meaning community, soil, home, that a man s spirit is in the land, where his ancestors rest and where the rice grows, helped show that the land was the true enemy. Also through Li Van Hgoc the reader learns one of the most important lessons of the novel, to Look closer. Concentrate. Going After Cacciato is a confusing mess filled with noise in the background, foreground, and whatever middle ground there may be. The reader of this novel must read between the lines to understand. • 31. Analysis Of Freedom Writers Freedom Writers, directed by Richard LaGravenese, is a true story about the legendary class 203 of Woodrow Wilson High School. With the help of first time teacher Erin Gruwell, who is portrayed through actress Hilary Swank, the class of misfits and outcasts discover life in a new light, and they learn to join together as one against the world instead of many ( Freedom Writers ). The touching story sends the message that anything is achievable if one has the right mindset and determination for it, no matter one s race or situation. Erin Gruwell has earned a job teaching English for the first time, and her co workers opinions on the students she will be teaching are extremely low. The school had applied an integration program a couple years prior, which caused much disdain among the teaching staff. However, despite remaining her positive outlook, she realizes she has a lot more to handle among her students because of their constant violent means and hatred for each other. The majority of the students are affiliated with gangs and have extremely challenging lives at home. When a controversial death threatens to tear the class apart, a simple game with a not so simple message from Ms. Gruwell is able to bring them back together. Discovering that many of the students shared important situations in common was the key to getting along with one another. The class also bonds over their research over the Holocaust, in which they care so much about the topic that they successfully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Causes Of Global Warming Global Warming Humans are the most influential causes of global warming. This is mainly happening because of the carbon pollution spreading throughout the atmosphere caused by burning fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide and many other chemicals released into the atmosphere act like a blanket which traps the heat of the sun and causes the planet to get warmer. From 2000 to 2009 it was the hottest decade in the past 1,200 years (according to the National Climate Assessment). This is changing everything about Earth, from land, atmosphere, oceans, and ice. This causes extreme weather, polluted air, wildlife extinction, and even diseases due to the warmer weather. Global warming is a huge problem in our world today and we must try to lessen the affects by encouraging the government to spend its attention more on global warming programs, informational ads, and websites in order to keep the world safe and to secure a better future. As sea and land experience fast changes, the organisms that inhabit them are challenged if they do not adapt fast enough. Many freshwater, land, and ocean species are moving to colder climates in order to escape the heat. They are also changing migrational patterns and seasonal behaviors. Many animals can die from these experiences and some species can even go extinct. A 2015 study from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change presented that vertebrate species like birds, fish, and reptiles are disappearing 114 times faster than they should be and this ... • 33. Essay on Lipids and Carbohydrates Lipids and Carbohydrates Lipids are a group of substances, which include fats, oils and waxes. Carbohydrates include sugars, starches, glycogen and cellulose. They are stored in plants as starches and in animals as glycogen. There are many differences between carbohydrates and lipids. For example lipids are insoluble in water whereas carbohydrates are soluble in water. This is because lipids contain non polar hydrocarbon units whereas water contains polar hydrocarbon units. So when the two are mixed together there is no attraction between particles so no breakdown is possible. But lipids care soluble in non polar solvents, e.g. alcohol. Carbohydrates have polar hydroxyl groups, so there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... B. Using examples to illustrate your answer, describe the functions of lipids in organism. Lipids are a useful energy source. They are also an energy store, since they are insoluble in water and have a high energy content it makes them ideal for storage. This energy store is used make up for heat, movement and energy lost by respiration. This energy store is also useful in plants (e.g. sunflower) because it is needed for seed dispersion. Lipids can also be used as insulation. Fat insulates the body because it conducts heat slowly. This type of energy store can be seen with polar bears, for example. They have a thick layer of fat beneath their skin for insulation. Some mammals, e.g. whales or penguins, don t have fur like polar bears do so they need extra insulation called blubber because there is no fur there to trap air and to insulate further. The insulating feature of lipids also protects internal organs. Lipids also store energy useful for hibernation. Phospholipids are the major components in cell membranes; they are ideal for this due to their ability to be permeable with some substances but impermeable to others. Oils and waxes prevent evaporation through the skin or through the leaves of plants. Another important function of lipids is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though most sociological studies are conducted on broad topics such as crime, poverty, gender, and ethnicity it is important to consider specific events that occur. This is something that confuses people who are watching them leave because they did not seem to be radicalized. Analyzing these events while they are happening in real time has been fascinating and educational because the actions are seen from a different perspective. The Islamic State has proven that the use of social and mass media are effective means to influence people into curiosity. That curiosity is then exploited by radicalization to perform the horrific actions this society thrives on. What if they lost their audience? Would they still be as effective at recruiting? • 35. Beowulf as Christian Propaganda The literary work of Beowulf is believed, by many, to contain numerous attributes of Christian propaganda. Throughout the story of Beowulf, there are several circumstances and coincidences that distinctly relate to the Christian belief system. One can only imagine that these ideas of Christian propaganda; which include the use of Christian themes and beliefs in works of literary art, were strategically placed throughout the story of Beowulf to help the conversion from the old world pagan religious belief system to the Christian beliefs of the new world. Historians believe that Beowulf was written sometime in the eighth century in England. This fact is important because during this era, society was in the process of converting from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Beowulf may represent Christ in this part of the story, it can be viewed that Grendel represents the devil. The battle between Beowulf and Grendel can represent the Christian theme of good versus evil. To make the connection even more solid, Grendel is referred to as a descendant of Cain, whom Satan tricks into sinning and committing the first murder in the human world. Grendel represents the image of a man fallen from grace through sin. Like Satan who is jealous of the happiness and joy that Adam and Eve have in the Garden of Eden, Grendel is jealous of the happiness and joy in Heorot. Grendel, as with Satan, is a rival of God and poses a great challenge to Beowulf, just as evil poses a challenge to Christians. Another connection that Grendel shares with the devil is his dwelling. Grendel lives in an underworld just as Satan lives in hell. Grendel is referred to in the poem as the guardian of sins . These small hints of the Christian culture to come are a way of slowly introducing the Christian beliefs to the common people, and perhaps getting them ready for the introduction of the stories of Jesus and his teachings. This way, they have something to relate the stories of Jesus to, and the ideas of Jesus are not so new and shocking. Perhaps the strongest relation to Christianity in Beowulf is in the last battle scene of the story. The dragon is Beowulf s last and most intriguing battle. The dragon can be viewed as ... • 36. Dealing with Controversial Mascots The Merriam Webster dictionary defines mascot as, a person, animal, or object used as a symbol to represent a group (such as a sports team) and to bring good luck. Hopeful sports teams around the United States rely on their mascots to bring in positive energy as motivation to help win the game. The mascot often serves as the face of a team, and acts to define the team s character to their opponents. The mascots represent the community that the team belongs to, and that is a big role. When a mascot is offensive or isolates a particular group of people, the mascot can also bring negative attention to the team. The negative publicity will often result in a mascot change. Considering the root of those jerseys was meant to imitate the native people s red skin, some might still find the new mascot offensive. At the University of Hawaii, the Rainbow Warriors were deemed offensive by the students because rainbows are associated with the gay community. In response to this controversy, the university allowed each team to pick it s own mascot, most teams are known simply as the Warriors, while others chose to take a more progressive approach. The basketball team is still known as the Rainbow Warriors, but the baseball team, perhaps the most tolerant, is simply known as the Rainbows. For St. Bonaventure University, the name change was brought on by embarrassment. The men s teams were known as the Brown Indians, which is offensive on it s own. The women s teams were called the Brown Squawks until 1979, when a Seneca chief informed them that the name was their word for vagina, a fitting term for a women s team, although not family friendly. • 37. Anthropologists Should Put More Emphasis On Individual... Anthropologists should put more emphasis on individual differences and meanings that are not shared. Culture is composed of individuals. We know that the individual is an important part of any culture because cultures are not uniform they differ from one another and they differ from themselves over time. This difference is a product of the inherent uniqueness of the individuals who compose a culture and no science that claims to study culture could be considered a true science if it ignored the building blocks of the subject it is studying. Clifford Geertz shares his views on culture in his essay, Thick Description: Toward an Interpretive Theory of Culture (1973), he views culture in a sort of public act in which people express themselves using various signs and symbols which have suggested cultural meaning far from an abstract psychological construct. Culture is embodied in the person who acts in a certain context and culture is revealed in this person s actions and his interpretation of their meaning. Culture in this sense is concrete and public, and not something which exists in people s individual minds. In my opinion, how each individual perceives their history is an art of construction. History by definition is the whole series of past events connected with a particular person or a past characterized by a particular thing (Dictionary.com n.d.). History is what it is at this present time because of people, the actions and decisions each individual has made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reading And Reflecting On Michael Lewis The Big Short Reading and Reflecting on Michael Lewis The Big Short For Commercial Bank Management class I read The Big Short and reflected on its contents. In this paper, I will describe my reading of the book and show how it relates to this class. I devoted about a week to this project reading, reflecting and writing. During this activity, I kept notes on what I was reading so that I could better understand exactly what happened in terms of concepts like collateralized debt obligations, etc. But what most interested me about this activity was the human element of the story. Eisman is like the little reminder that pops up along the way to let Macbeth know that he is not on the right track: it is called a conscience and Macbeth finally squashes it out of himself. Eisman, Lewis shows, has been the voice of conscience on Wall Street for some time, admitting to the unconscionable whether the head of a large U.S. brokerage firm or the president of a large Japanese real estate firm that their own dealings fail to make any sense. In the world, there are two types of people, those who say yes and everything else you want to hear and those who say the truth. Eisman, however, is the latter type. Vinny Daniel is another. Hired by Arthur Andersen, his job as an accountant was to account audit the big Wall Street firms, in other words. In theory, that is what his job was supposed to be. In reality, his job was to rubber stamp and approve all that such firms set before him. There is regulation in Wall Street. It is just easily gotten around. People like Vinny Daniel are the ones who clog up the works: He concluded that there was effectively no way for an accountant assigned to audit a giant Wall Street firm to figure out whether it was making money or losing money (Lewis 11). ... After going through a lot of twisted roads, the bus stopped in the end at our destination the picnic spot. As soon as everyone came out of the bus, our guide greeted us. Please don t wander off deep into the forest. It can prove to be very dangerous, cautioned the guide. Everyone nodded in agreement but no one asked why. While everyone was busy making their tents; I was taking a lot of pictures, mostly the pictures of the natural beauty. The beauty of the peacock, the merry monkeys swinging from trees to trees, and the rabbits scurrying into hiding; the flock of ducks moving in and out of the stream and the colourful birds that were flying high in the blue sky were a sight worth admiring. As I wandered off deep into the forest, I witnessed the dark side of this natural beauty... irate wild animals and the angry nature. The menacing howls of wild animals and the angry roar of the lions made me sweat copiously. The sly foxes were closely keeping an eye on my movements.
