Australia Advert Analysis Essay
BIAA Submission It s time for gen nbn!
Good advertising does not just circulate information, it penetrates the public mind with desires and
belief, stated William Bill Bernbach one of the most creative advertising directors of his time.
Advertising is when a person or organisation make an announcement through the various forms of
media which is intended to influence the choices of others, whereby it attempts to inform, appeal and
persuade their targeted audience. However, countless ads enter the market that are partially ineffective
or completely ineffective and in turn can end up being detrimental to both the product and company s
image. One such advertisement that fits under this banner is NBN Co. s latest Australia Day
Campaign, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has an almost equal focus on all these elements employing a diverse range of characters and emotive
use of technological imagery. The dynamic appeal of the future , the central aspect to this ad, was
presented specifically by the modes of logos and ethos. They successfully attempted this by presenting
a varied range of people who all seemed to be intelligent and possess high authoritative abilities
created by their character s job persona, whether that be a scientist or a neurologist. These paid actors
really made the ad seem much more credible and well as appealing to the ethics of the audience
because these people have first hand experience with the product, making their recommendations of
joining a generation that s moving us forward the most reliable and trustworthy testimonial of anyone
on the market. The actors have also used the power of the product to get people on board the
bandwagon and join the widely accepted revolution before it s too late, employing tactics to build trust
in both the company and the product. In addition to this this ad has also used pathos to target their
audience by using emotional imagery and psychological metaphors. From images with parents
celebrating with their young children to ethnic and gender equal societies to successful space
launches, the ad really has an ideal of positivity, making the most out of the emotional imagery
allowing the audience to be susceptible to the lies the NBN were broadcasting. Specifically, in this ad
the NBN has tried extremely hard to elicit the emotion of hope in its viewers, attempting to instil this
via the futuristic imagery, so that audience has something to look forward to, giving them the desire
for this better future and new generation that would encourage both cultural

Similarities and Differences amongst Multiple Sclerosis...
There are differences and similarities between multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy. Multiple
sclerosis is understood to be an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. However,
muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder that affects the peripheral nervous system. Multiple sclerosis
is seen as progressing asymmetrically from the loss of myelin. Likewise, muscular dystrophy presents
with a symmetrical wasting of the muscle and distribution of weakness. Muscular dystrophy is a group
of similar conditions that affect the voluntary muscles. Multiple sclerosis is often diagnosed in the late
twenties while muscular dystrophy offsets in young and adolescent aged individuals.
Multiple Sclerosis occurs as a result of demyelination of the axons within the central nervous system
and neuronal loss.1 The immune system produces antibodies that attack oligodendrocytes. When the
oligodendrocytes are destroyed, they produce patches of demyelination referred to as plaques.2 (p.41)
These plaques are found in the white matter of the central nervous system. With the loss of
myelination of neurons, the transmission of signals may become slowed or blocked.2(p.41)
Communication between the brain, spinal cord, and other areas of the body are hindered.3 Multiple
sclerosis may result in the deterioration of the myelin surrounding the nerves, and also the nerves
themselves. Unfortunately, this disease process is irreversible, incurable and often debilitating.3 The

The Influence Of Ancient Greek Culture
Ancient Greece often feels familiar in a strange way. From the spoils of Achilles (hero in the poem
The Iliad), to the Trojan War, from perfect measurements of the Parthenon to the amazing flawless
sculptures, Greek culture has uniquely and indirectly shaped our world. Thankfully the large eye
catching archaeological sites, impact of Hollywood and the literary sources, Greek art and culture is
embedded in our consciousness, arising visions of erudite philosophers, epic battles and limbless nude
sculptures that decorated the sparkling white temples.
Distributed around the Mediterranean Sea, the ancient Greece was united by its culture and art. What
further strengthened these bonds were the so called festivals and sanctuaries that embraced and
encouraged competition and interaction. Although most of the understating of ancient Greece belongs
to the Fifth Century BCE Athens classical art, it is of significance that we realize that Greece was vast

The period is infamous for the tall marble kouras (male) and kore sculptures, for example the statue of
Pharaoh Menkaure and his wife in which the male stands rigidly with both arms hanging on his sides

Though the Classical Period (480 323 BCE) began as an experimentation, it soon achieved the
postures and postures that were too realistic and naturalistic. The Aphrodite of the Knidos became one
of the most worshipped and celebrated sculptures in all of Greek antiquity. Unfortunately, the loss of
Cleopatra in 31 BCE at the Battle of Actium, the classical period eventually came to a decline and so
did the Greek art and culture. However, with Roam admiration of Greek art and architecture, the

The Summer People By Kelly Link
Have you ever been betrayed by someone that you trusted? The Summer People , a fairy tale short
story written by the author Kelly Link, portrayed the characters in a way that be can be greatly related.
Throughout the story, she often used several literary elements, such as symbols, setting, allusions, etc.,
to help the readers to understand the moral of the story. The main character, Fran, was bonded with the
faith to be the caretaker of the summer people, and there is no possible way that she can escape from
them. Despite the kindness of her friend, Ophelia, Fran decided to use her to gain freedom from the
summer people. Ophelia has always been truthful to Fran, even though Fran bullies her during the
beginning of the story. As the end, Ophelia was betrayed by Fran and forced to take over her
responsibilities of the summer people. In an e mail interview conducted by Journal of the Fantastic in
the Arts with Kelly Link by the editor, Brian Attebery, explained the style of her writing. Link stated,
The primary goals of fiction whether it s fantasy or realism or whatever are to entertain, to raise or
answer question, to unsettle or to comfort, to communicate. The tool set changes. The goal varies too,
and that s independent of genre (qtd. In Attebery 414). The statement from Link gives the readers that
why she decided to write stories like The Summer People, which can be greatly related to realism. The

Global Warming And Its Effects On The Planet Essay
As Albert Einstein said Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better . It can
be hard, but not impossible to understand more about this ever changing universe. Without a doubt,
our planet as we know was not the same a century ago and it will not be the same a decade from now.
Due to this perpetual evolution of our planet s natural cycles, its inhabitants are forced to choose
between adaption or extinction. Meanwhile, an invasive species, or humans, has started a chain of
disasters that are accelerating global changes and, in extension, the crucial selection of existence. Over
the years, the field of natural science has increased human knowledge regarding our negative impact
on the planet. Despite this, humans have taken minimal action towards addressing the problem that,
considered a myth by some, is global warming. Many of us take our planet for granted, not realizing
that, in of its own, it consist of one huge ecosystem relying on all of its parts to function properly.
Because of this interdependence, action must be taken to minimize and raise awareness of global
warming on the arctic region and its resulting effects on ecosystems around the world. Occurring on
the entire planet, global warming affects individual regions at different intensity levels. Places covered
in snow, like the Arctic, are being disturbed by the rising temperature, resulting in a decrease of ice
and an increase of liquid water. To illustrate the immensity of this matter,

Difference Between Supernatural And Supernatural
In today s production of films, ghosts and paranormal beings are a popular topic. However, even with
today s modern science, there is no legitimate proof of ghosts or spirits. When unexplainable things
happen when no one else is around, the idea of a paranormal being might seem rational. Despite the
speculation of the phenomenon, what exactly is paranormal activity and how do residual areas become
haunted by these spirits? The terms supernatural and paranormal are often confused. Supernatural is
relating more to faith or something we cannot completely comprehend or prove with our sciences.
Where as paranormal is something that cannot be explained with current knowledge and technology,
but most likely has a scientific reason for why it s happening. (Kelly) The difference between both
supernatural and paranormal has to do with being able to explain and understand the paranormal with
whatever available science. Religion might often be pushed into the category for supernatural, as with
the science available, we cannot fully explain ideologies of religion. With the paranormal, mediocre
equipment is used to supposedly make contact with the supernatural. It s believed that the supernatural
will eventually be able to be explained with advanced science. There have been many reports of
residual areas all around Kansas that have been determined as either haunted or rich with paranormal
activity. A famous example is the Topeka State Hospital, which was an asylum that was in

The Role Of Social Norms In Jerzy Kosinski s
Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There depicts how social norms affect the socialization of individuals
and displays individuals ability to alter their presentation of self within particular situations. Kosinski
plays with symbolism and the power of names by presenting the character Chance, who self identifies
himself as the gardener, and who acquired his name by being born by chance. Chance, renamed as
Chauncey Gardiner by his peers, has limited social and communication skills due to being bound to
his home with the Old Man, who took him in from birth. Chance now acting as Chauncey takes on the
social role of an upper class, intelligent, business man, prompting him to be thrown into the world of
politics with the elite. Surprisingly, Chance is able to successfully play the role of Chauncey as he is

This miscommunication was caused by Chance s attempt to follow social cues and mirror the actions
he saw depicted on television. Although he did not always understand social situations fully, Chance s
ability to adapt to the change in his social environment is due to the skills and norms he learned from
watching television at the Old Man s home. Despite a few moments of confusion, Chance acting as
Chauncey was able to convince those around him that he was a businessman with insight on
economics, not that he was just faking it. The character Chance takes on the public role of Chauncey
Gardiner in Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There, showcasing Goffman s dramaturgical analysis of
the social production of the self identity through symbolic character names, defined situational social
roles, and a social and public script, thus resulting in Chance having two separate identities, a personal

Building an Off Road Vehicle from Scratch
Building an off road vehicle from scratch is a difficult process. It consists of welding, fabricating
brackets and mounts, and aligning all of the parts to work with each other. Building this vehicle is
going to be a learning experience for me. I am new to welding and I am new to designing a vehicle
like this. The following paragraphs show the different types of welding, the safety gear used for
welding, the tools involved in my project, and the complex machines I used to complete my off road
vehicle.
The definition of welding is a process where two or more pieces of metal are fastened together by the
use of heat and pressure. The welder I am using is a Miller 350p MIG. This welder has three processes
it can do: MIG welding, pulsed MIG and flux cored MIG welding. MIG welding works by forming
one droplet of molten metal at the end of the electrode poss the arc and into the puddle. Pulsed MIG
welding is a non contact transfer method between the electrode and the weld puddle. This means that
the electrode never touches the puddle. This is accomplished through high speed manipulation of the
electrical output of the welding machine. It is designed to be a spatterless process. It runs at a lower
heat input than a spray or globular transfer method.er pulse. Then, the right amount of current is added
to push that one droplet acr A weld is only as strong as your thickest metal you are welding

Exploration of Portugal
Introduction
Portugal is one of the least tourist attracted locations in Europe, many people do vacation there but it
isn t as popular as most of the countries in Europe. This is so surprising due to the incredible charm
they have surrounding their country. In Portugal there are many rules and regulations to follow in your
everyday life. Your style and the way you present yourself in public is a big thing in Portugal, you will
usually see men wearing suit jackets, dress shirts and sometimes t shirts. Women wear dresses,
blouses, skirts and sometimes wear t shirts to, according to what the weather is like. Rain coats are
very highly recommended in Portugal, considering it has one of the highest rainfalls in all of Europe.
Considering it is located in Southwestern Europe and is the most western country mainland of Europe
I can see why. Portugal is mainly considered a warm climate, Mediterranean climate with a distinct
wet season in winter. During winter, Portugal undergoes a similar temperature pattern to the Spanish
coastal towns, otherwise know as the having an average temperature each day of about 16°C (61°F).
However, the Portuguese resorts are much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

women with their closer friends will kiss their cheek twice starting with the right then the left, and
guys will hug their closer friends and sometimes give them a handshake. American dinners are usually
informal and with paper plates and plastic silverware, but in Portugal there are very many different

Rear Window Gender Stereotypes
Alfred Hitchcock s 1954 movie Rear Window captivates the audience by presenting a thrilling murder
mystery, where Jeff Jefferies, the masculine hero, is confined to a wheel chair in his apartment, which
leads to the spying on his neighbors. In the movie, Hitchcock beautifully captures the turn of events
from Jeff s wrongful surveillance of his neighbors, to catching the killer. His examination of the idea
of surveillance and privacy, plays into the current American debate of the rise of the surveillance
debate. Hitchcock s movie also falls into a traditional pattern where men are the active dominant roles
and women are the submissive, background roles. Consequently, I believe that women are not a part of
the rise of surveillance state conversation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These differences are not highlighted during the movie. However, they remain key in our
understanding of how each gender understands and plays a role in the rise of surveillance debate. One
major factor of why there is such a heavily male presence in the surveillance the debate, is the idea the
men are able to think quick on their feet and remain calm. This can be seen when Jeff was not visibly
distraught as the killer was approaching him. This increases the societal stigma that men are able to
remain calm, in a time of stress, or danger, and come up with solutions, whereas women are

Children Who Suffer With Learning Disabilities
Children who suffer with learning disabilities struggle with communicating not only at school, but
even within their very own family. The desired lifesaving cure may not exist yet, but with the help of a
community, a child can develop the imperative skills he or she desperately needs to become literate.
Literacy means to be able to participate in a society. It does not matter if someone s language is
perfect without a grammatical error in sight or if their language is filled with insufficient mistakes. All
that matters is if a person is capable of understanding the other s main concept. I recently learned this
eye opening lesson about literacy from my three year old cousin battling with a recent diagnosis of
autism. I remember the day she was born. Everyone cheered when it was announced that there was a
beautiful baby girl being added to the family. We had all been so anxious to find out because her
parents had everyone suffering with them as they waited nine long months for the big reveal. After
waiting what felt like forever, April and Jacob finally decided on a name. Our new family member
was Blakely Ann Hickman. In that moment, we were all bubbling with joy because we thought this
baby was born without a scratch on her health record. In our eyes, she was already perfect. However,
two years passed and she still hadn t said her first word. Ordinarily, babies start to at least attempt to
talk somewhere between an advanced six months and normality of two years. This

Proud of Living and Working in Jozi
Proud of living and working in Jozi
We all want to live in cities of which we can be proud. We all want smooth operating public services,
less traffic, new roads, attractive and functional buildings, secure public spaces and wealth
opportunities that can change lives for the better.
So why then do we expect local government and municipalities to do it alone?
Isn t it true that in the 128 year history of Johannesburg, the City reached more milestones than any
other city in the country, even more so than some of the bigger cities globally?
Isn t it true that most of the City s achievements were actioned by government and citizens alike,
working together towards a common goal?
And yet, we still demand and expect service delivery perfection every single day, notwithstanding
how difficult it must be to handle the logistics and mechanics of delivering services to a population of
over 8 million people.
Granted, we all pay taxes so the City can perform these functions, and sometimes it feels as if our
money is being wasted. But surely there is far more to it, like personal reputation, character and pride?
It s human nature to want to live in a well governed, happy, safe place, our own Peach Blossom Spring

Teacher Student Relationship With Students
The Teacher Student Relationship
School begins at age five, or for some even before that, and so begins the excruciating routine of
waking up at an early hour to be ready to be at a place where you didn t ask to be, to be taught by an
older stranger about something you don t understand. However, in the life of a human being this
routine that goes on for years is essential to our lives, as well as those older strangers who teach about
subjects that you don t understand. Those older strangers have the responsibility to pass on knowledge
to their students and the given knowledge, whether taken or not, will determine their future. Is
everyone comfortable or willingly to accept the teachings of a total stranger? Of course not, therefore
this total stranger has to have an identification to the students, but not necessarily just a name.
Teachers must develop a relationship with their students because teacher student relationships affect a
student s academic excellence.
As a student myself I witness the rebellious outburst of students that will at no end do everything, but
be productive in class. What is the root of this refusal towards learning? This resistance to education is
a nature acquired from the famous phrase that school is boring or school is hard and those rebellious
students disengage themselves from the class and teacher. When a child transitions into being a
student there has to be an engagement to pull them into a pleasure or some sort of ambition for

Assignment On Social Identity Theory Essay
TATA INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES MUMBAI GROUP WORK ASSIGNMENT ON
SOCIAL IDENTITY THEORY Submitted to: Professor Vijay Raman Enrollment No.: M2015CF026
SOCIAL IDENTITY THEORY The Social Identity Theory was developed by Tajfel and Turner in
1979. The theory was originally developed to understand the psychological basis of intergroup
discrimination. Tajfel in 1971 attempted to identify the minimal conditions that would lead members
of one group to discriminate in favour of the in group to which they belonged and against another out
group. In simple words Social identity is a person s sense of who they are based on their group
membership. Later in 1979 Tajfel proposed that the groups (e.g. social class, family, company etc.)
which people belonged to were an important source of pride and self esteem. Groups give us a sense
of social identity: a sense of belonging to the social world. In order to increase our self image we
enhance the status of the group to which we belong. For example, TISS is a top ranked university in
India. We can also increase our self image by discriminating and holding prejudice views against the
out group (the group we don t belong to). For example, the other slightly lower ranked institutes.
Therefore we have divided students into them and us based through a process of social categorization.
This is known as in group (us) and out group (them). Social identity theory states that the in group will
discriminate against the out group to

The Promotion Of Pupil Voice
The promotion of pupil voice is a complex task which demands the commitment of the entire school
community. Critically discuss the rationale for the development of pupil voice throughout all aspects
of school life and consider how teachers and senior managers can facilitate pupils in forming and
voicing opinions while also ensuring the equality of opportunity for all.
The term pupil voice refers to ways of listening to the views of pupils and/or involving them in
decision making. (Department for Education, 2014, p.1) The term and practice of Pupil Voice has
featured within the UK since the early 1990 s, when Professor Jean Rudduck pioneered the concept
with numerous ground breaking research projects throughout the UK. These series of research projects
investigated and presented how pupil voice strategies could be employed within the classroom and the
wider school context to enhance teaching, learning and the general experience of school for pupils.
Since this early research around this concept, the term and practice has considerably grown into a very
current topic within education today and is a concept which every enterprising school should be
aspiring to adapt within their day to day running of their school. Many schools choose to promote the
concept of pupil voice through the form of student councils. Whitty and Wisby (2007) present their
findings in a report for the Institute of Education, University of London that out of 2417 of pupils
surveyed, 85 per cent stated

romance. Although it was originally categorised as a comedy, it is more modernly thought of as a
romance. It has the classical element of a comedy, with clownish characters, odd occurrences and
resolution; it also has some very dominating Romantic features. The story, although ultimately about
revenge, is also a story of naïve love and forgiveness. It tells of chivalry, the supernatural as well as
exotic, unknown location by the sea, all drawn from traditional romance. By looking beyond the text
itself, the decision on it elusive genre can be decided by perspective.

This idea then ties into Montaigne s Of Cannibals , an essay that questions the idea that society
dictates if someone is different, you are therefore superior. Many and the 19th century exposed groups
of savage people s simplistic lifestyle. The character of Caliban especially seems to create contrasting
views on people in their natural state. Although Shakespeare s The Tempest and Of Cannibals sharply
contrast, and Caliban often disproves Montaigne theories, they also draw so similarities, linking both
texts through the character Caliban. Although Caliban s character is often shown in a negative way, he
also had several speeches that give the audience an idea of his perception and humanity, which isn t as
savage as first perceived. He represents a stereotype and image many had of these savages in faraway
lands, influence by books or others stories. Both texts beg the question of what has changed, what we
have learned, and what we perceive as savagery; is it a simplistic lifestyle, or the colonising of other
land though force and power.
Colonialism is the discovery and control of new lands, and was a big issue around Shakespeare s time.
Through colonization, Europe dominated and imposed on native, which is what Prospero did to

ABOUT LAN SAMANTHA CHANG
Lan Samantha Chang s fiction has appeared in the Atlantic Monthly, Story, and The Best American
Short Stories. A graduate of Yale University and the University of Iowa, she divides her time between
Northern California and Princeton, New Jersey. AN INTERVIEW WITH LAN SAMANTHA
CHANG
Many of the families in Hunger have attempted to sever themselves from the past in order to build a
future. Was this how your parents coped with starting over in America? What parts of Chinese culture
did they celebrate?
My parents disconnection from China was never as deliberate or extreme as Ming and Sansan s
disconnection in The Unforgetting. My mother and father spoke Chinese and ate Chinese food; they
were proud of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Were the same forces present in your own family? How were these conflicts resolved?
Well, we re a passionate family (my mother says it s my father s blood) and I remember some serious
household arguments going on when I was a child. Most of the fights took place between my father
and my two older sisters. My sisters were fighting for permission to do things that typical American
teenagers do: to join the soccer team, sleep over at friends houses, go on dates. My sisters didn t get
everything they wanted. For example, my parents decided they would be allowed to go to movies with
boys, but only matinees. My parents believed that going to movies at night might encourage bad
behavior. I could never understand this; aren t movie theaters as dark in the afternoon as they are at
night?
Anyway, I can now also see that the fights were really about my sisters desires to be individuals, to act
in the world and be responsible for themselves. My parents had not grown up with role models for
such independent young women. The conflict was inevitable and necessary; it was part of our family s
gradual movement into American culture.
Will you discuss how and why you decided to become a writer?
I have wanted to be a writer since before I could read. As a child, I copied picture books out onto

Paper mills have been known to release toxic waste materials into the water and the air in which they
operate. This has not only happened here in Maine, but also in states such as Wisconsin and Georgia.
In Wisconsin, chemicals used in the paper making process have been found in rivers, gaining
concentration in the sediment at the river bottom (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016).
These chemicals are used to prevent bacterial growth in the pulp and finished paper products
(Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). Poisons released into the air in Georgia from the
paper industry include nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and volatile organic chemicals
as well as mercury , cellulosic fibers , and chlorophenolic wood preservatives and anti sap stains
(Jackson, Standiford, Smith, Spencer, Tyler, 2014). Paper production also involves the use of great
amounts of energy, causing some mills to put up their own energy generators or use large amounts of
public power (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). To make paper, you must also
have pulp, which comes from trees. These trees are not always responsibly resourced, causing some
patches of trees to be cut down completely in places that have never been cut before, possibly in
foreign countries (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). If not properly cut,

Mortgage Crisis Essay
Did you know that you can take up to 30 years to pay off a mortgage in Canada?
It can be quite the experience being approved for a mortgage, especially if it is your first. However,
once your mortgage payments kick in, the reality of their financial implications dawns.
Mortgage payments can exert a heavy burden on your expenses. Besides paying a mortgage, you have
other equally important things to do with your money. Life goes on even after the mortgage. However,
the thought of paying for a house month after month, year after year, for thirty years, is close to living
a never ending nightmare.
But there s good news for you. You can actually complete paying off your 30 year mortgage

Any extra, however small, payment you add to your monthly payments goes towards reducing your
principal amount. At the end of the day, you will end paying your mortgage in a shorter time period
and save in interest.
2. Cut Down on Your Non Essential Daily Expenditure
Having lunch is a necessity that you can t do without. But who said you must buy lunch every day?
What about bringing your own lunch from home? Let s assume that you normally spend $100 a month
on lunch. If you put this towards your mortgage payment, you will end up saving yourself more than
$25,000 in interest! Add to this whatever you spend on Starbucks every month and you will see your
interest crumbling faster than cookies. There are so many non essential expenditure that you can
scrape or skim off to put your mortgage payments on the fast track.
3. Consider Refinancing Your Mortgage
No one wants to be tied down to a mortgage for 30 years! If the above stringent measures are not your
cup of coffee, you might want to consider refinancing your mortgage for a shorter term, say 15 years
instead of 30. Refinancing your home allows you to get financing to pay off the initial loan and

Athletes Avoid Concussions
Athletes with head trauma should be required to sit out of the game until their head is fully healed.
Although a medical professional signs a paper allowing them to go back into the game, they should
not take advantage of that by starting right away. After concussions, teenage athletes should take it
easy so their brain has the proper time it needs to heal. Concussions are a serious injury. They can
have long lasting impacts and are more likely to reoccur during the same season. In contrast, in order
for athletes to return to the game, a doctor has to sign forms allowing them to do so. Doctors are
licensed professionals, so the athlete s head injury can t be too severe if they are able to play again. In

Those impacts are not good either. Long lasting concussions don t even have to be caused by multiple
bangs to the head. As little as a minor bump can cause these consequences. Some of the long term
effects are behavioral and mood changes, cognitive difficulties, affected attention and judgement.
Long term effects can also happen from the athlete neglecting the injury, which happens often in
sports, because people think of it as just a small accident, then return to playing. Sometimes, people
don t realize they have a concussion, because not everyone loses consciousness when receiving one.
After facing head trauma, athletes can get a post concussion syndrome, which causes headaches,
dizziness, irritability, and depression. The long term effects of a concussion can last for thirty years or

The Effects Of Gender And Sex Role Orientation On...
Effects of Gender and Sex Role Orientation on Attitudes Toward Dependent Personality Disorder
Dependent personality disorder (DPD) is characterized by a passive need for reassurance, direction,
and support. Those with DPD typically view themselves as helpless and weak and others as competent
and strong (Disney, 2013). According to the American Psychological Association (APA, 2013), DPD
is one of the most commonly diagnosed personality disorders. However, compared to other
personality disorders, there has been little research completed on DPD and little research regarding
sex differences in those diagnosed with DPD (Disney, 2013; Loas, Cormier, Perez Diaz, 2011).
Specifically, there is a dearth of research regarding attitudes toward ... Show more content on

Therefore, evidence suggests that simply being a female appears to make one more likely to be
diagnosed with DPD (Loas et al., 2011). Some researchers argue that more women are diagnosed with
DPD due to traditional gender stereotypes. These traditional gender stereotypes suggest that men are
independent and assertive and women are dependent and passive (Berk Rhodes, 2005). Currently,
there is little research investigating the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD. Instead, the vast
majority of research regarding sex differences in DPD focuses on behavioral manifestations of
dependency needs. For example, Loas et al. (2011) found that men with DPD were more likely to
engage in spousal abuse. Additionally, Kierski and Blazina (2009) found that, despite equal
dependency needs, men are more likely to deny dependency needs in an effort to conform to societal
pressures. Perhaps understanding the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD would help inform
the degree of societal pressure placed on men to conform to traditionally masculine stereotypes
(Bohan, 2002).
Some researchers suggest that the current personality disorder diagnostic system is biased toward
diagnosing women with DPD (Barzega et al., 2001; Disney, 2013; Klonsky et al., 2002). This is likely
due to the relationship between DPD diagnostic criteria and traditional gender stereotypes (Berk
Rhodes, 2005; Disney, 2013). A diagnosis

Difference Between Sports And Sports Tourism
One of the coolest, yet most infuriating parts about the English language is that there are multiple
words that have very similar, yet different, meanings. Leisure, play, recreation, and sport and tourism
can be related to each other and used to describe each other. Often time s people consider sport
tourism, recreation, and play as a leisure activity. On the other hand, recreation does not necessarily
always refer to a leisure activity. The definition and classification of each activity into these categories
can change with time. As time goes on and the world becomes for technology advanced, people find

travel which involves either observing or participating in a sport event stay apart from their usual

the global travel industry today. People are constantly traveling to watch their favorite team compete
in an opponent s stadium or travel to compete in their own activities. People love to travel and
experience new places. When combining sports with travel, it is the best of both worlds. Escaping
from your usual environment and experiencing something new and challenging is one of the reasons
why people enjoy to travel. I personally know multiple people who travel to different cities to watch a
sports team or to participate in some kind of racing event. Sport tourism, to me, is considered leisure
time. I personally enjoy traveling to other cities/states to watch my favorite team play. One of my
favorite experiences was traveling to Orland, Florida, to watch the University of Memphis play in the
conference championship football game. I believe sport tourism is an industry that is going to be

Chicken Express Vs. Raising Cane s
The world spins on the basis of comparison. For example, one often seems to differentiate between
eating a meal at Chicken Express or Raising Cane s. It may be that Chicken Express has better sweet
tea, but Raising Cane s chicken has a better flavor to it than Chicken Express. As I was sitting in a
booth at Raising Canes with my family, I began to compare my two siblings: Salvador and Sebastian.
Even though my siblings both are males and love football, their similarities stop there.I found many
contrasts that stood out to me about them such as their obvious differences in physical appearances,
the love and dislike of books, and their introverted or extraverted personalities. To being with, when I
go grocery shopping I can never seem to distinguish between cilantro and parsley, whereas Salvador
and Sebastian are like an apple and a banana, remarkably easy to identify one from the other. Mainly,
Salvador has a deep warm skin tone that contrasts Sebastian s pale ivory skin. Also, Salvador has deep
black eyes and thick black hair, while Sebastian has hazel eyes and thin brown hair. Lastly, although

Disappointingly, Disney and Poston fail to provide any useful insight into the discussion, and this

Rather than conducting exegetical or philosophical analysis, the authors focus on sociological factors
that may have influenced cultural understanding of anthropology, demonstrating a disregard for
objective truths concerning the metaphysical status of persons. Moreover, although they rightly
encourage compassion in emotionally charged discussions, they also advocate a willingness to
acknowledge a multitude of possible truths, rather than exhorting critical thinking and a passion for
acquiring genuine knowledge. Accordingly, Disney and Poston do not articulate a clear thesis, nor do
they contend for a particular position regarding soul ontology, electing instead to remain agnostic.
Although the authors accurately summarize the traditional Christian positions, they exhibit poor
scholarship during their interaction with the doctrines failing to introduce, consider, or refute relevant
theological and philosophical arguments and objections. Conclusion Unwilling to analyze historical

Islam Is A Progressive Religion
Despite popular assumption, Islam is actually quite a progressive religion. Bioethics are not set in
stone, although some scholars as well as Muslims do have strong opinions about certain bioethical
subjects. In the twentieth century, there was a very limited amount of resources in the field of Islamic
bioethics. The twenty first century has marked an influx in research on Islamic bioethics from both
Muslim religious scholars as well as studies conducted by academic researchers (Ghaly 592). In the
field of religious bioethics, there tends to be a significant amount of coverage on certain topics. In
Islam in particular, scholars and the public alike readily discuss abortion and euthanasia (Brockopp 3).
Although Islamic customs emphasize the importance of community, Islamic theology in general
promotes the individual, not communal, salvation. This means that in many situations, there are
guidelines for how one should act, but individual circumstances can differ therefore warranting a
private and individual action. Westerners often overlook this aspect of Islam, as there are a lot of
misconceptions revolving around Islam and the Muslim identity. In this sense, despite there being
general rules or guidelines Muslims tend to adhere to, there is still a heavy balance between the
general rules and individual circumstances; meaning that bioethics can not be approached from only
one view.

1. Coupons have been around forever, so why has Groupon become successful?
I believe that Groupon has become successful for many different reasons. First of all, Groupon was
the first to transport the traditional Coupon clipping to the online world. This opened many
opportunities. It was something new, exciting to consumers that they hadn´t seen in this way. So
Groupon had a first mover advantage even though they only connected already existing ideas and
technologies in a new way. By being online Groupon could reach many, possibly millions, of people at
once. This was a strong argument when Groupon talked to local merchants. As most of these

Making the offers timesensitive triggers a feeling in consumers that they might miss out on a chance
that will not repeat itself if they don´t act now. Many even bought vouchers that they never redeemed,
just not to miss out on an opportunity. In this sense Groupon is speaking to the risk aversion of the
majority of people. The thrill of seeing how much time is left on a coupon and how many others are
acting as well, appeals to a person´s addictive behavior. We want to repeat the thrill of the bargain
hunt. Groupon then made many moves to foster and expand its initial success. It expanded rapidly into
more cities and later on even more countries. It fostered its connection with social media and the
online world by setting up an affiliate marketing program that allowed bloggers and websites to earn
commissions. This online referral was also expanded by giving consumers a direct incentive to refer
Groupon by offering them a 10$ reward towards a future purchase. Groupon also heavily invested in
paid search engine advertising and even created an ad that was shown during half time of the super
bowl. So, to sum up, Groupon made sure that its existence spread as fast and as much as possible.

merchants or not?

The Valuation And Commodification Of Ecosystem Services
The Valuation and commodification of Ecosystem Services
Ecosystems in our world act as vital and fundamental sections to maintain health, living, well being
and survival of human beings and other creatures (Robert Costanza et al, 1997; Millennium
Ecosystem Assessment (MEA), 2005; TEEB Foundations, 2010; TEEB Synthesis, 2010). They
provide different kinds of service, such as production of goods, life support processes, and life
fulfilling conditions (Gretchen C. ,2000). Ecosystem significantly contributes to both economic and
non economic value of our planet, but when compared to market efficiency, it seems to be paid less
attention when involved in decision making. In the majority of the ongoing projects that have
numerous debates on, it seems common for people put a price tag on ecosystem services and evaluate
them by means of commodification. When the immediate or intuitionistic benefits fail to be derived, it
is less likely for ecosystems to be protected or reserved. Therefore, the importance of ecosystem
services is often poorly appreciated and only to be seen when facing severe problems. People are less
likely to come up with solutions to protect the ecosystems of their own will than to make a better trade
to exchange ecosystem services for money. Also, it is quite often to fail to define the difference
between valuation and privatisation , considering ecosystem services more of tradable products than a
part of nature system. It is often overlooked that the market

mentioned a philosophy that she lived by; gain the most knowledge, do the most good, and have fun
doing it. Her determination to do the most good aided her in success as she worked to understand the
material so much until she was able to teach others, ideally doing the most good. As she climbed the
success ladder, she had a goal of reaching her most potential offered and obtaining a 4.0 GPA. Here,
she realized that Aggie Land is the land of potential. She also mentioned that we should make

  • 2. Australia Advert Analysis Essay BIAA Submission It s time for gen nbn! Good advertising does not just circulate information, it penetrates the public mind with desires and belief, stated William Bill Bernbach one of the most creative advertising directors of his time. Advertising is when a person or organisation make an announcement through the various forms of media which is intended to influence the choices of others, whereby it attempts to inform, appeal and persuade their targeted audience. However, countless ads enter the market that are partially ineffective or completely ineffective and in turn can end up being detrimental to both the product and company s image. One such advertisement that fits under this banner is NBN Co. s latest Australia Day Campaign, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has an almost equal focus on all these elements employing a diverse range of characters and emotive use of technological imagery. The dynamic appeal of the future , the central aspect to this ad, was presented specifically by the modes of logos and ethos. They successfully attempted this by presenting a varied range of people who all seemed to be intelligent and possess high authoritative abilities created by their character s job persona, whether that be a scientist or a neurologist. These paid actors really made the ad seem much more credible and well as appealing to the ethics of the audience because these people have first hand experience with the product, making their recommendations of joining a generation that s moving us forward the most reliable and trustworthy testimonial of anyone on the market. The actors have also used the power of the product to get people on board the bandwagon and join the widely accepted revolution before it s too late, employing tactics to build trust in both the company and the product. In addition to this this ad has also used pathos to target their audience by using emotional imagery and psychological metaphors. From images with parents celebrating with their young children to ethnic and gender equal societies to successful space launches, the ad really has an ideal of positivity, making the most out of the emotional imagery allowing the audience to be susceptible to the lies the NBN were broadcasting. Specifically, in this ad the NBN has tried extremely hard to elicit the emotion of hope in its viewers, attempting to instil this via the futuristic imagery, so that audience has something to look forward to, giving them the desire for this better future and new generation that would encourage both cultural ... • 3. Similarities and Differences amongst Multiple Sclerosis... There are differences and similarities between multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy. Multiple sclerosis is understood to be an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. However, muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder that affects the peripheral nervous system. Multiple sclerosis is seen as progressing asymmetrically from the loss of myelin. Likewise, muscular dystrophy presents with a symmetrical wasting of the muscle and distribution of weakness. Muscular dystrophy is a group of similar conditions that affect the voluntary muscles. Multiple sclerosis is often diagnosed in the late twenties while muscular dystrophy offsets in young and adolescent aged individuals. Multiple Sclerosis occurs as a result of demyelination of the axons within the central nervous system and neuronal loss.1 The immune system produces antibodies that attack oligodendrocytes. When the oligodendrocytes are destroyed, they produce patches of demyelination referred to as plaques.2 (p.41) These plaques are found in the white matter of the central nervous system. With the loss of myelination of neurons, the transmission of signals may become slowed or blocked.2(p.41) Communication between the brain, spinal cord, and other areas of the body are hindered.3 Multiple sclerosis may result in the deterioration of the myelin surrounding the nerves, and also the nerves themselves. • 5. The Influence Of Ancient Greek Culture Ancient Greece often feels familiar in a strange way. From the spoils of Achilles (hero in the poem The Iliad), to the Trojan War, from perfect measurements of the Parthenon to the amazing flawless sculptures, Greek culture has uniquely and indirectly shaped our world. Thankfully the large eye catching archaeological sites, impact of Hollywood and the literary sources, Greek art and culture is embedded in our consciousness, arising visions of erudite philosophers, epic battles and limbless nude sculptures that decorated the sparkling white temples. Distributed around the Mediterranean Sea, the ancient Greece was united by its culture and art. What further strengthened these bonds were the so called festivals and sanctuaries that embraced and encouraged competition and interaction. • 7. Global Warming And Its Effects On The Planet Essay As Albert Einstein said Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better . It can be hard, but not impossible to understand more about this ever changing universe. Without a doubt, our planet as we know was not the same a century ago and it will not be the same a decade from now. Due to this perpetual evolution of our planet s natural cycles, its inhabitants are forced to choose between adaption or extinction. Meanwhile, an invasive species, or humans, has started a chain of disasters that are accelerating global changes and, in extension, the crucial selection of existence. Over the years, the field of natural science has increased human knowledge regarding our negative impact on the planet. Despite this, humans have taken minimal action towards addressing the problem that, considered a myth by some, is global warming. Many of us take our planet for granted, not realizing that, in of its own, it consist of one huge ecosystem relying on all of its parts to function properly. Because of this interdependence, action must be taken to minimize and raise awareness of global warming on the arctic region and its resulting effects on ecosystems around the world. • 9. Difference Between Supernatural And Supernatural In today s production of films, ghosts and paranormal beings are a popular topic. However, even with today s modern science, there is no legitimate proof of ghosts or spirits. When unexplainable things happen when no one else is around, the idea of a paranormal being might seem rational. Despite the speculation of the phenomenon, what exactly is paranormal activity and how do residual areas become haunted by these spirits? The terms supernatural and paranormal are often confused. Supernatural is relating more to faith or something we cannot completely comprehend or prove with our sciences. Where as paranormal is something that cannot be explained with current knowledge and technology, but most likely has a scientific reason for why it s happening. (Kelly) The difference between both supernatural and paranormal has to do with being able to explain and understand the paranormal with whatever available science. It consists of welding, fabricating brackets and mounts, and aligning all of the parts to work with each other. Building this vehicle is going to be a learning experience for me. I am new to welding and I am new to designing a vehicle like this. The following paragraphs show the different types of welding, the safety gear used for welding, the tools involved in my project, and the complex machines I used to complete my off road vehicle. The definition of welding is a process where two or more pieces of metal are fastened together by the use of heat and pressure. The welder I am using is a Miller 350p MIG. This welder has three processes it can do: MIG welding, pulsed MIG and flux cored MIG welding. MIG welding works by forming one droplet of molten metal at the end of the electrode poss the arc and into the puddle. Pulsed MIG welding is a non contact transfer method between the electrode and the weld puddle. This means that the electrode never touches the puddle. This is accomplished through high speed manipulation of the electrical output of the welding machine. It is designed to be a spatterless process. It runs at a lower heat input than a spray or globular transfer method.er pulse. So why then do we expect local government and municipalities to do it alone? However, in the life of a human being this routine that goes on for years is essential to our lives, as well as those older strangers who teach about subjects that you don t understand. Those older strangers have the responsibility to pass on knowledge to their students and the given knowledge, whether taken or not, will determine their future. Is everyone comfortable or willingly to accept the teachings of a total stranger? Of course not, therefore this total stranger has to have an identification to the students, but not necessarily just a name. Teachers must develop a relationship with their students because teacher student relationships affect a student s academic excellence. As a student myself I witness the rebellious outburst of students that will at no end do everything, but be productive in class. What is the root of this refusal towards learning? Assignment On Social Identity Theory Essay TATA INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES MUMBAI GROUP WORK ASSIGNMENT ON SOCIAL IDENTITY THEORY Submitted to: Professor Vijay Raman Enrollment No.: M2015CF026 SOCIAL IDENTITY THEORY The Social Identity Theory was developed by Tajfel and Turner in 1979. The theory was originally developed to understand the psychological basis of intergroup discrimination. Tajfel in 1971 attempted to identify the minimal conditions that would lead members of one group to discriminate in favour of the in group to which they belonged and against another out group. In simple words Social identity is a person s sense of who they are based on their group membership. Later in 1979 Tajfel proposed that the groups (e.g. social class, family, company etc.) which people belonged to were an important source of pride and self esteem. Groups give us a sense of social identity: a sense of belonging to the social world. In order to increase our self image we enhance the status of the group to which we belong. For example, TISS is a top ranked university in India. We can also increase our self image by discriminating and holding prejudice views against the out group (the group we don t belong to). For example, the other slightly lower ranked institutes. Therefore we have divided students into them and us based through a process of social categorization. This is known as in group (us) and out group (them). Social identity theory states that the in group will discriminate against the out group to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These series of research projects investigated and presented how pupil voice strategies could be employed within the classroom and the wider school context to enhance teaching, learning and the general experience of school for pupils. Since this early research around this concept, the term and practice has considerably grown into a very current topic within education today and is a concept which every enterprising school should be aspiring to adapt within their day to day running of their school. Currently, there is little research investigating the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD. Instead, the vast majority of research regarding sex differences in DPD focuses on behavioral manifestations of dependency needs. For example, Loas et al. Some researchers suggest that the current personality disorder diagnostic system is biased toward diagnosing women with DPD (Barzega et al., 2001; Disney, 2013; Klonsky et al., 2002). Even though my siblings both are males and love football, their similarities stop there.I found many contrasts that stood out to me about them such as their obvious differences in physical appearances, the love and dislike of books, and their introverted or extraverted personalities. To being with, when I go grocery shopping I can never seem to distinguish between cilantro and parsley, whereas Salvador and Sebastian are like an apple and a banana, remarkably easy to identify one from the other. Mainly, Salvador has a deep warm skin tone that contrasts Sebastian s pale ivory skin. Also, Salvador has deep black eyes and thick black hair, while Sebastian has hazel eyes and thin brown hair. Lastly, although Sebastian is a year younger than Salvador, Sebastian is at least four inches taller than his older brother. At glance one may be surprised to learn Salvador and Sebastian are ... Recognizing the significant ramifications which follow from anthropological doctrines, Lindsey Disney and Larry Poston purpose to outline historical Christian positions of soul ontology, along with examining their implications for contemporary ethical issues. Disappointingly, Disney and Poston fail to provide any useful insight into the discussion, and this critique will demonstrate the article s inability to further discussions regarding the origin of the human soul. Rather than conducting exegetical or philosophical analysis, the authors focus on sociological factors that may have influenced cultural understanding of anthropology, demonstrating a disregard for objective truths concerning the metaphysical status of persons. Moreover, although they rightly encourage compassion in emotionally charged discussions, they also advocate a willingness to acknowledge a multitude of possible truths, rather than exhorting critical thinking and a passion for acquiring genuine knowledge. Accordingly, Disney and Poston do not articulate a clear thesis, nor do they contend for a particular position regarding soul ontology, electing instead to remain agnostic. Although the authors accurately summarize the traditional Christian positions, they exhibit poor scholarship during their interaction with the doctrines failing to introduce, consider, or refute relevant theological and philosophical arguments and objections. • 36. Islam Is A Progressive Religion Despite popular assumption, Islam is actually quite a progressive religion. Bioethics are not set in stone, although some scholars as well as Muslims do have strong opinions about certain bioethical subjects. In the twentieth century, there was a very limited amount of resources in the field of Islamic bioethics. The twenty first century has marked an influx in research on Islamic bioethics from both Muslim religious scholars as well as studies conducted by academic researchers (Ghaly 592). In the field of religious bioethics, there tends to be a significant amount of coverage on certain topics. In Islam in particular, scholars and the public alike readily discuss abortion and euthanasia (Brockopp 3). Although Islamic customs emphasize the importance of community, Islamic theology in general promotes the individual, not communal, salvation. This means that in many situations, there are guidelines for how one should act, but individual circumstances can differ therefore warranting a private and individual action. Westerners often overlook this aspect of Islam, as there are a lot of misconceptions revolving around Islam and the Muslim identity. In this sense, despite there being general rules or guidelines Muslims tend to adhere to, there is still a heavy balance between the general rules and individual circumstances; meaning that bioethics can not be approached from only one view. When looking at any issue, it is important to know whom exactly you are speaking about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Groupon Case Study 1. Coupons have been around forever, so why has Groupon become successful? I believe that Groupon has become successful for many different reasons. First of all, Groupon was the first to transport the traditional Coupon clipping to the online world. This opened many opportunities. It was something new, exciting to consumers that they hadn´t seen in this way. So Groupon had a first mover advantage even though they only connected already existing ideas and technologies in a new way. By being online Groupon could reach many, possibly millions, of people at once. This was a strong argument when Groupon talked to local merchants. As most of these merchants did not have an extensive marketing budget and were not necessarily familiar with new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Making the offers timesensitive triggers a feeling in consumers that they might miss out on a chance that will not repeat itself if they don´t act now. Many even bought vouchers that they never redeemed, just not to miss out on an opportunity. In this sense Groupon is speaking to the risk aversion of the majority of people. The thrill of seeing how much time is left on a coupon and how many others are acting as well, appeals to a person´s addictive behavior. We want to repeat the thrill of the bargain hunt. Groupon then made many moves to foster and expand its initial success. It expanded rapidly into more cities and later on even more countries. It fostered its connection with social media and the online world by setting up an affiliate marketing program that allowed bloggers and websites to earn commissions. This online referral was also expanded by giving consumers a direct incentive to refer Groupon by offering them a 10$ reward towards a future purchase. Groupon also heavily invested in paid search engine advertising and even created an ad that was shown during half time of the super bowl. So, to sum up, Groupon made sure that its existence spread as fast and as much as possible. 2. Local merchants have a mixed reaction about Groupon. • 40. The Valuation And Commodification Of Ecosystem Services The Valuation and commodification of Ecosystem Services Ecosystems in our world act as vital and fundamental sections to maintain health, living, well being and survival of human beings and other creatures (Robert Costanza et al, 1997; Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MEA), 2005; TEEB Foundations, 2010; TEEB Synthesis, 2010). They provide different kinds of service, such as production of goods, life support processes, and life fulfilling conditions (Gretchen C. ,2000). Ecosystem significantly contributes to both economic and non economic value of our planet, but when compared to market efficiency, it seems to be paid less attention when involved in decision making. In the majority of the ongoing projects that have numerous debates on, it seems common for people put a price tag on ecosystem services and evaluate them by means of commodification. When the immediate or intuitionistic benefits fail to be derived, it is less likely for ecosystems to be protected or reserved. Therefore, the importance of ecosystem services is often poorly appreciated and only to be seen when facing severe problems. People are less likely to come up with solutions to protect the ecosystems of their own will than to make a better trade to exchange ecosystem services for money. Also, it is quite often to fail to define the difference between valuation and privatisation , considering ecosystem services more of tradable products than a part of nature system. It is often overlooked that the market ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
