This document describes a motorless cooling tower system called AQUAFAN+ that uses turbine power and a backup motor. It has cell modules with 2.4 meter fans that can reach up to 475 RPM. The turbine can generate up to 250 RPM using water pressure, and the motor kicks in above that to meet cooling demands up to 7.5 kW. The mechanics section outlines two options for motor control using a variable frequency drive to maximize turbine use and minimize motor power consumption.

• VFD adjusts RPM until required water
temperature is achieved
• Turbine assists motor in generating fan
speed
