This document outlines the process for conducting a military appreciation. It begins by defining the aim, which should be a single, clear statement of what is intended to be achieved. Factors relevant to achieving the aim are then analyzed to derive deductions. Possible courses of action for both own and enemy forces are considered. The most probable enemy course and best own course are selected. An outline plan is then developed to achieve the aim through elaboration of the selected course of action. The appreciation process may be revisited if the situation or factors change.
