Identity Development
When people want to figure out their identity, they ll have to change their perspective, on how
they think people view them. Doing this, you ll slowly engage deeper into self consciousness.
George Herbert Mead, explained in four stages on, how people come to self consciousness. Two
important things that work together as a person goes through the stages, in George Herbert Meads
theory are, the I, and the Me. The Four stages are, imitation, play, games, and generalized (Pg. 35
40 Mead 2009.) There re also some challenges, and another theory that relates to, George H. Mead
s theory of identity development, that I will discuss as well.
Before explaining the 4 stages, in which a person reaches self consciousness, we must first have

individual to develop a self conscious of who they re? Or would it derive from the objects in the

the law of attraction. In both theories something positive or negative is going on in your mind, and

Jesse Owens- More than a Great Athlete Essay
Jesse Owens is one of the most well known runners to ever set foot on a track. He battled his way
into the Olympics. He proved to the world that it doesn t matter where you come from. He stood
apart from all the other runners, black or white. not because of the records he set, the titles he
earned, or the medals he gained, but because of the way he gave people hope. For what he did for
races all over the world, Jesse Owenstruly was the greatest man alive. Jesse was never thought of
as a runner. He was a sickly child; the Devil s Cold is what his mother called it. That didn t stop
him, though. He began to run. Quarter miles were his best race. As a fourth grade kid, he won
everything his grade and below. Hungry for more, he started... Show more content on

The horses just ran. It was that day that Jesse Owens was born. He began winning. He stopped
staring down his opponents and put his energy into running. During his junior high years, he had
to practice before school because of his job after school. In his high school, he established a
world record in the 100 meter dash and the long jump in the National High School
Championship. He could barely make enough money to live on for him and his young wife,
Ruth. He attended Ohio State University, where he was nicknamed The Buckeye Bullet. He won
a record of eight NCAA Championships. Even during his success, he wasn t allowed to live on
campus. He also had to eat at black only restaurants. That didn t crush his spirit, though. At the Big
Ten meet in 1935, he set three world records and tied a fourth. That was when he qualified for the
1936 Berlin Olympics. Adolf Hitler was in charge at that time and he certainly did not like African
Americans. When Jesse won his heat, he wasn t invited up to his box like the other winners, nor
was he given any sort of acknowledgement. The next day, during the finals, Hitler wouldn t shake
any runner s hand so no one would think that he was ignoring Owens. Everyone knew it, though.
Jesse knew it too, even though he pretended it didn t bother him. Americans were livid. They had
the greatest runner of all time in there and Hitler wouldn t even look at him. That race, Jesse won

Different Forms Of Expressing Love
What is love? When we born into this world, there is already those that love and adore us. One
article defines it as a variety of different feelings and emotions, chemical brain states, and attitudes
that ranges from interpersonal affection ( I love my mother ) to pleasure (Lyons, A Deeper Look ).
Loveis a unique and complicated neurological emotion which is very difficult to understand. It is
just like hunger and thirst, but just more permanent. Many of us talk about love as if we have no
control over it, as if it is unconditional or blind, in the sense that we have no control over it. Many
artists and poets use the heart as a symbol that represents love, even though the truth is that it
occurs in our brain. Unlike modern society, the older generations did not only use the word love
to describe all the various emotions that go along with it. There are many different forms of
expressing love. The three words, I love you, take on varying meanings to a friend, to a parent, or
to a significant other. In order to describe these forms, the Ancient Greeks invented four distinct
words for love : agГЎpe, Г©ros, storge, and philГa. These four are types of love that we experience
in different stages in our lives.
AgГЎpe is the Greek word for love at its highest by God. Not to be confused with philia love, it is
not the type of love between a husband and wife or a brotherly love. It is more of a parental,
sacrificial form of love. Of all the four types of love, this one is

Your Right to a Fair Birth
Many people enjoy the idea of planning events before they happen. Whether it s going on vacation,
getting family together for the holidays or planning the arrival of a newborn child;. The natural
way for a baby to be born is through the mother s birth canal and vagina. But, sometimes vaginal
birth isn t possible. More than ever, woman are opting to schedule childbirthelectively, even though
there can be serious risks and implications involved. Many who choose an elective childbirth, do
have a legitimate reason as to why they made that decision. Center for Disease Control and
Prevention recently reported that, cesarean deliveries reached a record high of 32.9 percent out of

Jain, 2009, para. 7). Obstetric based or maternal based reasons need to be discussed honestly
between the patient and physician carefully.
Often feeling the pressure of family and the uncertainty of the baby s arrival can be a motivating
factor toward choosing a planned birth. The mode of delivery in many ways can be up to the
discretion of a physician, more so because the medical community s fear of litigation even so
Obstetric nurses are 10 times more likely to be in the courts as oppose to non obstetric
nurses(Sibbald, 2003, para. 3). The advantages of performing a ECS is having the patients
preferred healthcare provider available and greater ease of balancing staffing levels with clinical
volume (Salim Shalev, 2010, p. 4). Ultimately, avoiding patient morbidity and fatigue with the
healthcare team can contribute to a positive outcome. Although, scheduling birth based on timing
and convenience can be a motivating factor for CDMR. It s been shown that respiratory morbidity
in Elective Cesarean section is inversely related to gestational age at the time of ECS

Since many components of the new IPhone such as Apple Pay, Passbook, and being able to

Since this technology is so new, we first have to look at how it work by looking at what we do

How Does Polypeptide Occur In Protein Synthesis
Our genetic material is DNA. A polypeptide is a chain of amino acids otherwise known as a
protein. DNA is used to make polypeptides in a process called protein synthesis. THe assemblance
of polypeptides occurs in protein synthesis. Protein synthesis is the process where genetic info is
taken from the nucleus and into the ribosome. Proteinsynthesis uses two RNAmolecules and two
types of processes called transcription and translation. The two RNA molecules are messenger
RNA (mRNA) and transfer RNA (tRNA). mRNA contains genetic info that travels from the DNAto
the ribosome. It uses an amino acid chain sequence of proteins. tRNA (transfer RNA) uses its
specific amino acid, takes it, and matches it with its predestined codon. The process

Prostitution As A Form Of Sexual Abuse
Prostitution can have the meaning of, engaging in sexual acts or activities for the exchange of
money or goods , this can also be a form of sexual abuse. Prostitution status for the countries shown

restricted: 11, number of countries prostitutionis legal: 77, number of countries with no laws for
prostitution: 5. Prostitution is illegal in all states in the US except for 11 counties in Nevada. The
Mann Act signed by President Taft on June 25, 1910.
The purpose for this law was to stop harboring immigrant prostitutes, forced prostitution and
transportation across state lines. A Representative that s named James R. Mann was how the law
got its name, this act had dealings with child pornography and prostitution. Mann came across this
law because in Chicago 1909 people told him that pimps were forcing girls and women into
prostitution. In the US arguing for keeping sexual rights and privacy won out in the landmark
Supreme Court ruling Lawrence v. Texas stating that these sodomy laws consider constitutional law
of a country nor the government. Sex trade still continues, in 2007 Atlanta s sex trade was worth
$290 million. Pimps usually come with history, like being a pimp was a family business because
there was a lot of their family member involved into that before. It s pasted from generation to
generation usually.

My Experience At This Spring Semester Essay
At this spring semester, there is one of the most essential classes that I have taken at ASU which
called ENG 194, Academic Writing in English taught by Professor Zhao. As I said, I am taking
WAC, Introduction to Academic Writing, at the same time which is also a class about writing.
However, compared with WAC, this ENG class concentrates more on practices, experiences gaining
knowledgeinstead of grammar, vocabulary, and other writingtechniques. Even though there is
exclusively one class on each Wednesday I learned a portion of useful knowledge and skills on
pragmatic writing through this semester, such as sending emails, interviewing as well as
presentations, job applications and so on. As for the first project about sending emails, in my
opinion, that s the most helpful writing skills because of its intimate connection to our life
experiences all the time. At the beginning of this semester, I would rather walk in the office than
sending an email due to spending a long time on organizing sentences with an appropriate
expression. Originally, emails are supposed to create conveniences, however, because of unfamiliar
with English things may backfire, just like the counterexample email showed on the video. Timely
knowledges about emails at the first class bring a lot conveniences, as well avoiding normal
mistakes, including improper greeting, wordy expression, incorrect format. I also think it s of great
importance to learn about that how to set brief but clear

Woman Hating
Dworkin writes scathingly on footbinding in her book Woman Hating, alleging that in obtaining a
crippled wife, a man glories in her agony, he adores her deformity, he annihilates her freedom, he
will have her as a sex object, even if he must destroy the bones in her feet to do it. Brutality,
sadism, and oppression emerge as the substantive core of the romantic ethos. (Dworkin 112).
Jeffreys quotes the above from Dworkin in her own analysis of feet binding, ultimately concluding
that foot binding was the nascent precursor of a wave of prostitution which swept China. Indeed,

Their arguments only point out how women are incapacitated or used as objects. However, as
Brown s field study showed, this analysis fails to comprehensively address causative forces of male
dominance from an economic standpoint. Though they are right in identifying male lust as the
driving force behind the subjugation of women, what is misunderstood are the consequences of
such lust, which do not cease with direct harm or objectification of women. By engaging in beauty
practices, women are not only rendered playthings, which is what the three seem to suggest, but are
additionally retooled to fit subservient economic roles, which serve to heighten and establish the
hierarchal dominance of men. Applying this economic perspective provides greater resolution and
understanding of patriarchal hierarchies. As Karen A. Callaghan observes in her introduction to the
anthology Ideals of Feminine Beauty: Philosophical, Social, and Cultural Dimensions, The gender
hierarchy is sustained by beauty norms that define women s power, self assertion and worth in
terms that reify male dominance. (Callaghan ix). Understanding the consolidation of male
dominance necessitates defining these hierarchies in a way that describes how female subservience
is produced. It is important to note that these hierarchies are multifaceted and exist as political,

Effects and Results of Oluja
Operation Oluja is the largest military operation in Croatian history, as well as a decisive turning
point in the overall conflict on the territory of former Yugoslavia. With Operation Oluja around
14 % of the total territory of the Republic of Croatia was liberated. Its ending and results marked
the collapse of the Greater Serbia idea of uniting all Serbian countries in former Yugoslavia and the
creation of Greater Serbia. It changed the strategic force ratio in the region, which directly
influenced the bringing of the Serbs to the negotiating table. It took the change of the strategic
situation, which had been brought about by Croatian military successes, to create the conditions for
the implementation of US led peacekeeping initiatives of USA, Germany, France, Great Britain
and Russia , as well as for the signing of the Dayton Agreement and a complete cessation of

Operation Oluja inflicted a total defeat on the SVK, while the VRS was de facto on the verge of

Gender Roles In Argentine Tango And The Music Of Native...
There are hundreds, even thousands of styles music and each style from each place has its own
set of beliefs and traditions. A common tradition and theme in music is the role of men and
women and how each gender is perceived or included in a tradition. Tango is an example of this;
men are supposed to be a strong, masculine, even virile figure who lead the effeminate, submissive
female partner. Another example of genderroles in musicis in the musics of Native Americans and
First Nation people where traditionally only men were able to play the drums in the middle of the
circle at large gatherings such as powwows. There are several other instances our class discussed
in which gender roles helped define a musical tradition, but this short essay will focus primarily on
gender roles within the Argentine tango and the music of Native Americans and First Nation people.

The Importance Of Organ Donation
Over the past several years, the argument of whether or not compensating donors is ethical and
financially benefitting for everyone has been heavily debated. The interest for life saving organ
donation has such little supply that the doctors of waiting patients are so desperate that they believe
compensation is their only option. Enhanced survival rates combined with unfaltering development
of signs for transplantation make the organdeficiency progressively severe; waiting times are now
deplorably long. In order to cut the waiting period, compensating donors will promote more
individuals to become donors. Although there are many people who disagree with the idea to
compensate donors, people who donate their kidneys should be compensated because more
individuals will be drawn to donate their kidneys in return for monetary value. Additionally, donors
should be compensated because they are giving an organ from their body part away.
Individuals and their families pay for dialysis each year hoping they will be chosen to receive
the next available organ they have been longing for. These individuals often do not think about
how they could be paying a donor for a much lower price instead of dialysis which does not
guarantee the organ you desire. The interest for organ donation has reliably surpassed supply, and
the large gap between the quantity of recipients on the waiting list and the quantity of donors has
increased. If a larger supply of organs was available to the large

Ignorance, Stereotypes, Prejudice And Racism
Ignorance just might be bliss. Could it be that our world has stooped to such dismal and sorrowful
character that moping around in a state of acquiescence provides further ecstasy than that of
acknowledgement? Knowledge is considered a burden, education optional, and recognizing the
obstacles we face superfluous. Each day I rise from sleep to repeatedly witness moral obligation
slip through the fingers of humankind s hands. We re slowly losing all of the beautiful traits that
helped to distinguish us from lifelessness. We re sending more text messages filled with ambient
drones than we are signals from our brains. Journals filled with raw, unscathed thoughts have been

Countries are stockpiling nuclear weapons, anticipating a worldwide genocide, because we d

cultivated fabulous and rewarding relationships. However, a minute detail like skin color, which
in all reality is just due to evolution based on demographics (my apologies to the bible belt for
my bold statement) holds us back from peace. Humans are capable of so much; we possess so
much potential to love, build, and thrive as a community. It should be each of our own personal

9th Amendment Pros And Cons
Most people are aware and know about the First Amendment which is the right of free speech and

A Powerful Philosophy Of The Sacramento Technology Industry
A Powerful Philosophy He was much shorter than I expected when I met him; standing at only
five feet three inches. I had woken up that morning with a feeling of anticipation. Hundreds of
questions bounced around in my head and I was finally going to meet the guy whom I hoped
had all the answers. I quickly got dressed in my form fitting suit, ate breakfast, and then eagerly
started the thirty minute drive to Folsom. That afternoon I had lunch with Mr.Lokesh Sikaria.
Mr.Sikaria is one of the most prominent business men in the Sacramento technology industry
and I reached out to him because I was extremely interested in pursuing a similar career.
Mr.Sikaria, who received a master s in electrical engineering and a minor in business from the
University of California Berkeley, initiated his career at a small consulting firm. He quickly
moved to a chief operator position at Rapidigm Inc where he controlled millions of dollars in
company revenue. A few years later, he started his own IT consulting firm, which was wildly
successful, and now operates a venture capitalfirm in Folsom California. There is no doubt in my
mind that Mr. Sikaria is very successful personally, but what really makes him stand out is his
ability to be successful personally and help the community at the same time. The ability to do this
is impressive and should be imitated by everyone in order to have a greater impact on the world.

Essay On Keeping The Drinking Age
Without a doubt, the United States has been facing serious national problems with underage
drinking. Depending on personal ideologies, some people might not agree that the current
minimum drinking age of twenty one is based on scientific facts rather then ideology of
prohibitionism. For example, since 1975 over seventeen thousand lives have been saved since the
minimum legal drinking age(MLDA) was changed to age twenty one (Balkin 167). This shows that
even over a short amount of time, a higher MLDA helps decrease the risk of teen suicides,
accidents and overdose deaths. However, this widely debated topic has inevitably brought attention
to the plethora of supporting and opposing viewpoints. The minimum legal drinking age of twenty

Simultaneously, accidents involving automobiles without a doubt are devastating. How would one
feel if a loved one was killed in a collision due to an intoxicated driver? Wouldn t the individual
want to do something about it? The death of the Candy Lightner s daughter lead to her development
of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age Act.
This act gave full federal highway funds only to states that set the minimum age to purchase or
consume alcohol at twenty one years (Sanghavi). Once all states raised their MLDA to twenty
one years, drunk driving accidents and deaths decreased. According to the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, the reduction in traffic fatalities due to the legal drinking age of
twenty one prevented 846 deaths in 1997 and prevented a total of 17,359 deaths since 1975
(Balkin 168). This single statistic shows that automobile accidents have substantially decreased in
response to the authorization of the National Minimum Drinking Age Act. In addition, the average
teenager earns their drivers license at the age of seventeen. This being said, allowing a young
driver with only one years experience (excluding a learners permit) to legally consume alcohol
would surely be an irresponsible decision. Most people know

Octopi Research Paper
Octopi: Why Stand Out When You Can Blend In? Aquatic species are full of interesting
physiological designs, from gills to adaptive skin, they have learned to adjust to their environment
in order to have optimal survival. When it comes to physiological adaptations, camouflage proves
impressive. Organisms from many different speciesutilize camouflage in order to maximize
survival: owls, geckos, fish to name a few. However, cephalopod mollusks such as an octopus
utilize camouflage as their primary defense against predators. The reliance on mimicry displays
how refined and detailed the mechanism to camouflage is, otherwise the success of the species
would not be where it is today. By utilizing visual acuity and specialized skin, octopi are able...

Octopi are independent, solitary organisms found commonly in reefs and pilings. This behavior
is dictated by their need to evade predators through camouflage. If octopi lived in large groups
they would stand out more and be unable to evade predators. Similarly, octopi live in reefs and
pilings because they are able to use the corals and pilings to mimic easily. Picking a single coral
attribute in a whole reef allows endless mimicry possibilities for the octopi and increases their
chances of evading a predator. Not only does the information obtained from octopi camouflage
provide information on cephalopod behavior, this also helps explain concepts of camouflage in all
organisms. Having one of the most advanced mimicry systems, the octopus only produces three
patterns, of which allow them to survive. It is suggested that knowing this provides an insight on
the very simple relationship between prey and predator (Hanlon, et al.,

Gary Becker The Economic Way Of Looking At Life Analysis
Gary Becker uses the economic approach to analyze social issues in his lecture The Economic
Way of Looking at Life , which lies outside of the typical scope of economists. He claims that
unlike Marxian analysis, the economic approach that he refers to does not assume that individuals
are motivated solely by selfishness or gain. Becker says that he has attempted to pry economists
away from the narrow assumptions of self interest claiming that behavior is driven by a much wider
set of values then personal utility. The analysis assumes that individuals maximize welfare as they
conceive it, whether they be selfish, altruistic, loyal, spiteful, or masochistic. This shows us that

Constraints are important to for different situations, but the most fundamental constraint Becker
claims is time. So while goods and services have grown in rich countries, the total allotted time
available to consume them has not, therefore wants remain unsatisfied in both rich and poor
countries. While the abundance of goods may reduce the value of additional goods, time becomes
more valuable as goods become more abundant. Inorder to fully widen our grasp on certain
economic presumptions we must incorporate certain factors. Becker shows his perception of the
economic approach through four subjects. To understand discrimination against minorities, it is
necessary to widen our perception, accommodating for the possibility of prejudice and hatred of
specific groups of people. The economic analysis of crime incorporates into rational behavior illegal
and other antisocial tendencies. The human capital approach considers how the productivity of
people in market and non market situations is changed by investments into education. The
economic approach to the family interprets marriage, divorce and relations among family members

The Cultural Identity Of The African American Community
The African American community has sat at the end of a discriminatory lens from the moment they
set foot in the United States. For that reason, black communities have undergone the process of
community building to ensure that all members feel a sense of belonging.
Race, gender, nationality, ethnicity, poverty, and sexual orientation
, all play a role in developing one
s identity and more often than not, these multiple identities intersect with blackness. Being that
American society has deemed colored people and populations as minoritarian subjects, African
diaspora people can be seen making safe spaces for themselves to survive as individuals and as a
part of communities.
Stuart Hall s Cultural Identity and Diaspora focuses on the current issues of identity, cultural
practices and cultural representations. He analyses the visual representations of Afro Caribbean s
and challenges the notions of identity from African and European places. Hall then goes on to
explain how Caribbean cinema has chosen to both, refute and embrace European influence. He
presents two different forms of thinking about cultural identity. In the first position, Hall defines
cultural identity in terms of one, shared culture, which people with a shared history and ancestry
hold in common. The first model uses stable, unchanging and continuous frames of reference and
meanings to present the idea of shared culture, history, and ancestry rooted beneath more superficial
imposed selves (Hall, 223).

Origin ( E.g Time, Place Of Beginnings )
Origin (e.g time, place of beginnings): The Inca was also known as Tawantinsuyu, first appeared in
the Andes region of South America throughout the 12th century A.D, the heterogeneous empire
quickly flourished through the military power of their emperors. They had their own culture and
pantheist beliefs up until 1438, however, the influences of past settlements and the following
ninety five years of expansion caused religious beliefs to change and develop significantly. The
Inca conquered neighbouring Andean regions which had their own set of religious beliefs,
worshipped deities and had unique practices. Nearly all Andean communities participated in the
everyday worship of the forces of nature (including rain, lightning, thunder, the moon and the
rising of the sun each day) and venerated the earth s physical features (such as snakes, jaguars,
rivers and mountains). The peasants among each allyu (a group of extended families) executed
these practices for thousands of years. Each allyu worshipped their ancestors, which they believed
to originate from the natural world at sacred places called huacas. The Incas built their own
temples, sacred sites, took sacred relics from the locals and held them in the sacred land Cuzco to
encourage compliance with the Inca beliefs and accept the supremacy of Inti (the most important
Inca deity and sun god). Instead of forcing them to completely convert to the Inca state religion, the

Scooter In addition to portability and comfort, one of the advantages of a lightweight scooter is
its ease of maneuvering. The folding scooters have a rudder (handlebar) that rises under steering
and braking controls. The controls are two levers or cams to operate with the thumbs. For
example, for backward driving, actuate the left thumb and for forward driving to activate the
right thumb. The amount of pressure determines the speed, and when the pressure is released, an
electronic braking system automatically triggers the electromagnetic brakes. Maneuverability An

The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre
The tension between the colonies and Britain was nothing new. There were several occasions where
the colonies became greatly infuriated with the unpleasant treatment they were receiving. Prior to
the year 1770, much of the outcry came from the acts passed by the British government, such as the
Stamp Act, Quartering Act, and Declaratory Act ( A Timeline of the American Revolution). Even
though the colonists were infuriated, it would take something more to push them over the edge.
This something would turn out to be what is now called the Boston Massacre. Although the Boston
Massacre won t go down as the deadliest massacre in American history, it will go down as one of
the most pivotal turning points due to the colonists depiction of the event. Several things
happened leading up to the massacre itself, which are important to note. The colonists were
becoming increasingly frustrated with Britain, which led to political unrest. To counteract this
unrest, British troops were sent to Boston, where they arrived on October 1, 1968. Originally,
there wasn t an open resistance to the presence of the troops. Over time, things would change,
which can be derived from the events of March 5, 1770. There were two sides: the mob of
colonists and the the British soldiers. The colonists ended up attacking a British sentinel, leaving
the British captain to call in more soldiers, who were also attacked. Shots were fired by the

Eddie Mabo Case And Their Role In The Case
Describe the individual of group that initiated the case and their role in the case. Provide
background information about them.
Eddie Mabo s ancestors lived for centuries on a group of three islands in the Torres Strait, near
Cape York. The islands, known as the Murray Islands, were annexed by the Queensland
Government in 1879 which meant they became a part of Australia
Queensland became responsible for their administration but despite this annexation, and the
presence of European missionaries on the islands, the indigenous people permanently and
continuously inhabited them with very little change to their way of life as a result of the
annexation. They continued to live in their settled communities; they maintained their traditional
beliefs and customs; there was a clear way of passing on their garden plots of land, and ways of
settling disputes about legal matters.
Mabo was a long running case launched by the Meriam people of the Murray Islands to challenge
the validity of state land laws and seek recognition of rights to land.
It involved the High Court considering the application of Australian law to the rights of Indigenous
Australians, in particular regarding the legal concepts of terra nullius and native title
What was the event of right violation that led to legal action being taken?
In the late 1970s, the Queensland Government attempted to dispossess some of the local people in
their own land. In 1982, Five members on the island of Mer decided to take the matters to court,
one of these people was Eddie Mabo.
They claimed that their rights to the land had not been extinguished by the Crown when their
islands were taken over or annexed by Queensland. They still had a legal right to the land based on
the legal concept of native title right of ownership based on traditional ownership of the land. The
Queensland Government s response was to pass the Coast Islands Declaratory Act, 1985. They
claimed that: All rights to the land went to the Crown on the 1879 annexation that native title had
been extinguished, and that no compensation for loss of land would be due to the Meriam people.
From 1985 and 1992, Eddie Mabo and other residents of the Murray Islands in far north Queensland
took action

Reflection Upon A Critical Incident Essay
This paper will reflect upon and explore a critical incident which occurred whilst attending a
clinical placement. Reflective practice has become very popular over the last few decades
throughout a variety of professions. In some professions it has become one of the defining
features of competence. The wide spread utilization of reflective practice is due to the fact that it
rings true (Loughran, 2000). Within different disciplines, what is understood by reflective
practice varies considerably (Fook et al, 2006). Despite this, some agreement has been achieved.
In general, reflective practice is understood as the process of learning through and from experience
towards gaining new insights of self and/or practice (Boud et al 1985;... Show more content on

The model encourages the person to think systematically about and experience or activity and
allows the opportunity to recognise areas that can be improved upon or developed. The model
takes the form of a cycle, which uses a six step approach covering a description, feelings,
analysis, evaluation, conclusion and finally action plan. My choice of model, over Johns (2000)
model for example, was due to its clear structured cycle which allows the opportunity to renter a
stage in order to try and improve upon a situation. Where as Johns (2000) model, does not allow
this opportunity although it is a useful model as a guide for analysis of a critical incident.
Although, I will have to develop the model to ensure that I critically analyse in order for it be of
a higher standard at this stage of the training. The topic of reflection is a potential drug error
made whilst on my clinical practise placement. The area of drug administration is an important
role for nurses and therefore I will incorporate research evidence, policies and guidelines
surrounding drug administration, discuss how the area can be developed and applied in
professional practise. The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA 2010), defines a drug error as
any preventable event that may cause or lead to inappropriate use of patient harm. Although not all
drug errors have lead to patient harm it is important to recognise that if a mistakes has been

A comparison of the respiration of yeast in different sugar substrates
Aim: The aim was to compare the respiration of yeast in different substrates of sugars, i.e. between
a monosaccharide (glucose) and a disaccharide (maltose)
Theory: There are three types of Carbohydrates, monosaccharides, disaccharides, and
polysaccharides. The two, which I will be looking at, are, monosaccharide (glucose) and the
disaccharide (maltose)
Classification and major properties of carbohydrates
GroupPropertiesExamples
Monosaccharides general formula:(CH20)n(n = 3 to 0)Small molecules with low molecular mass;
sweet tasting; crystalline; readily soluble in water.Trioses, e.g. glyceraldehyde (C3H603)Hexoses
e.g. glucose, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Breaking this bond would slow the rate of CO2 produced in the respiration of yeast with the
disaccharide in comparison to the monosaccharide.
My hypothesis can be justified by the way in which yeast digests with the chosen sugars.
Yeast is a single celled fungus, most in the class of Ascomycetes. The Ascomycetes yeasts include
the common bread, beer, and wine producing varieties of Saccharomyces Cereviseae. As yeast is a
fungus and possesses no chlorophyll, it would be unable to photosynthesise. Therefore the yeast
must obtain its carbohydrates by secreting enzymes onto the surface on which it is growing.
In the case of glucose and maltose, these enzymes are zymase and maltase. Maltose requires the
specific maltase enzyme to first hydrolyse the glycosidic bond in between the glucose subunits of
maltose before the zymase enzyme can break down the two ГЎ glucose monomers from maltose.
However glucose only requires the zymase enzyme to be broken down into ethanol and CO2,
maltose. As the glycosidic bond needs to be hydrolysed in maltose to form two monomers of
glucose, and additionally two enzymes are needed to break down maltose, is the reason why I
think that the rate of CO2 produced by the respiration of yeast will be

Conflict Resolution Case Study Conflict is inescapable, having the ability to recognize, understand,
and resolve conflicts are important in both personal and professional lives. Myatt (2012) states that
conflict in the workplace is unavoidable; if left unresolved, workplace conflict may result in loss of
productivity and the creation of barriers that can inhibit creativity, cooperation, and collaboration. It
is vital to embrace conflict and address problems through effective conflict resolution tactics
because if not handled appropriately, conflict will escalate. If not handled properly, conflict may
significantly affect employee morale, increase turnover, and even result in litigation, ultimately

About 2:30 in the afternoon, M.E. was in her patient s room and J.P. confronted her in front of
the respiratory staff and students that were present about why she was/wasn t doing certain
things and what was making her so slow; J.P. caught M.E. off guard and was very abrasive,
belittling and verbally abusive; M.E. felt attacked and embarrassed, especially since this behavior
took place in front of colleagues. J.P. felt frustrated that M.E. was not more competent and
efficient in her care and confronted her about it. After the confrontation, there were no words
spoken between the two of them for days and even though months have passed, there is still an
obvious tension and unresolved conflict between these two individuals. There is currently a
noticeable effort being put forth by both women but the conflict they experienced is not yet fixed.
Cost of the Conflict The cost of the conflict does not only affect M.E. and J.P., but ripples out to
affect their fellow nurses and other co workers, and may even affect patients and their families to
an extent. This conflict caused suffering of many people; M.E. was angered, upset, and stressed
about the situation and still is uncomfortable around J.P. which is a shame because J.P. has so much
nursing experience that could help M.E. in her nursing career. The respiratory staff that was in the
room and overheard the confrontation was deeply upset about the situation and spoke to M.E. about
it and how it affected the people in

led to deductions about the movie s antagonists and other major characters. The first character
that is mentioned in it is called Louis. He is described as man who is elegant and intelligent. The
description of Louis as an appealing entrepreneur with a dark side led to rumors that the name
Louis refers to the key villain Nathaniel Essex, also known as Mr. Sinister. The description seems
to match the character of Mr. Sinister in all the points. Additionally, the list names a female
named Vera who is in her mid 20s and early 30s. She is described as tough, fiery, beautiful, smart

The Delays Involved with Commercial Disputes in New York, NY
Commercial disputes in New York, New York often take much longer to resolve than the parties
anticipate. Due to a number of factors, commercial disputes in New York, New York, may linger in
the court system for years. Because these cases may take so long to resolve, many parties have
turned to mediation to more quickly finalize these cases.
Many commercial disputes involve a number of parties, many of whom may not be known at the
time of the dispute. Tracking down all of the parties in a commercial dispute may take several
weeks, and ensuring that they are named properly in court documents takes additional time.
Similarly, many of these parties may be difficult to locate after a lawsuit has been filed. Why does
this matter? A defendant must not only be named properly in a lawsuit, but also must be served
with notice of the lawsuit. If a defendant is particularly difficult to locate or serve, it will delay
progress in the case.
When several parties are involved in a commercial dispute, coordinating communication between
them is often difficult. As the case progresses, it may take months to schedule depositions of the
parties and their witnesses, as the schedules of the individuals being deposed, as well as the
schedules of the parties attorneys,

Nanotechnology can revolutionize the world in the fields of medicine, environment, technology, etc.
In Nanotechnology Could Alleviate Many of the Problems of the Developing World Heller, Jacob,
and Christine Peterson stated that A Paper by Fabio Salamance Buentello et al. founded that
nanotechnology could be applied to attain at least five of the eight United Nations Millennium
Development Goals (MDG). United Nations Millennium Development Goals are as followed:
eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender
equality and empowering women, reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating
HIV and AIDs, malaria and other diseases, ensuring environmental sustainability, and developing a
Global Partnership for development. Photovoltaic cells based on quantum dot technology,
nanocrystals for hydrogen creation and the production of hydrogen storage systems based on
carbon nanotubes would significantly improve environmentally sustainable development (Heller,
Jacob, and Christine Peterson). Although hydrogen is an alternative to fossil fuels, it formation,
storage and conversion to electricity as facing technological challenges. However, in the use of
water as a renewable resource to produce hydrogen, the uses of nanocphoto catalysts have shown

Natural Gas Business Scheme
In 2001 to 2008, sales of natural gas from KKKS have never been done in an open tender, natural
gas can be sold directly to natural gas distribution companies without any tender, in other words,
KKKS never announced to the media (newspapers, websites etc.) regarding the potential for
natural gas that will be commercialized. Hence, Natural Gas Distribution companies who have
network to KKKS will benefit from this kind of process. The process of selling gas without open
tender as mentioned above can lead to unethical business behavior, because KKKS is the only one
who gained full authorization from BPMIGAS to control the commercialization process but KKKS
did not doing a transparent business process.
What KKKS doing is not in accordance with the principles of good corporate governance that
includes Transparency, accountability, responsibility, independency, and fairness to attain a
company s sustainability by also considering the interests of stakeholders. (Binhaldi, 2006)
To avoid unethical business behavior, commercialization of natural gas process by KKKS must be
done transparently. KKKS must Provide timely, Appropriate, clear, accurate and comparable
information accessible to stakeholders that their rights commensurate with (Binhaldi , 2006).

Doing this, you ll slowly engage deeper into self consciousness. George Herbert Mead, explained in four stages on, how people come to self consciousness. Two important things that work together as a person goes through the stages, in George Herbert Meads theory are, the I, and the Me. The Four stages are, imitation, play, games, and generalized (Pg. 35 40 Mead 2009.) There re also some challenges, and another theory that relates to, George H. Mead s theory of identity development, that I will discuss as well. Before explaining the 4 stages, in which a person reaches self consciousness, we must first have defined ... He proved to the world that it doesn t matter where you come from. He stood apart from all the other runners, black or white. not because of the records he set, the titles he earned, or the medals he gained, but because of the way he gave people hope. For what he did for races all over the world, Jesse Owenstruly was the greatest man alive. Jesse was never thought of as a runner. He was a sickly child; the Devil s Cold is what his mother called it. That didn t stop him, though. He began to run. Quarter miles were his best race. He began winning. He stopped staring down his opponents and put his energy into running. During his junior high years, he had to practice before school because of his job after school. In his high school, he established a world record in the 100 meter dash and the long jump in the National High School Championship. He could barely make enough money to live on for him and his young wife, Ruth. He attended Ohio State University, where he was nicknamed The Buckeye Bullet. He won a record of eight NCAA Championships. Even during his success, he wasn t allowed to live on campus. He also had to eat at black only restaurants. That didn t crush his spirit, though. At the Big Ten meet in 1935, he set three world records and tied a fourth. That was when he qualified for the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Adolf Hitler was in charge at that time and he certainly did not like African Americans. When Jesse won his heat, he wasn t invited up to his box like the other winners, nor was he given any sort of acknowledgement. The next day, during the finals, Hitler wouldn t shake any runner s hand so no one would think that he was ignoring Owens. Everyone knew it, though. Jesse knew it too, even though he pretended it didn t bother him. Americans were livid. They had the greatest runner of all time in there and Hitler wouldn t even look at him. • 6. Different Forms Of Expressing Love What is love? When we born into this world, there is already those that love and adore us. One article defines it as a variety of different feelings and emotions, chemical brain states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection ( I love my mother ) to pleasure (Lyons, A Deeper Look ). Loveis a unique and complicated neurological emotion which is very difficult to understand. It is just like hunger and thirst, but just more permanent. Many of us talk about love as if we have no control over it, as if it is unconditional or blind, in the sense that we have no control over it. Many artists and poets use the heart as a symbol that represents love, even though the truth is that it occurs in our brain. Unlike modern society, the older generations did not only use the word love to describe all the various emotions that go along with it. There are many different forms of expressing love. The three words, I love you, take on varying meanings to a friend, to a parent, or to a significant other. In order to describe these forms, the Ancient Greeks invented four distinct words for love : agГЎpe, Г©ros, storge, and philГa. These four are types of love that we experience in different stages in our lives. AgГЎpe is the Greek word for love at its highest by God. Not to be confused with philia love, it is not the type of love between a husband and wife or a brotherly love. It is more of a parental, sacrificial form of love. Of all the four types of love, this one is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Experience At This Spring Semester Essay At this spring semester, there is one of the most essential classes that I have taken at ASU which called ENG 194, Academic Writing in English taught by Professor Zhao. As I said, I am taking WAC, Introduction to Academic Writing, at the same time which is also a class about writing. However, compared with WAC, this ENG class concentrates more on practices, experiences gaining knowledgeinstead of grammar, vocabulary, and other writingtechniques. Even though there is exclusively one class on each Wednesday I learned a portion of useful knowledge and skills on pragmatic writing through this semester, such as sending emails, interviewing as well as presentations, job applications and so on. As for the first project about sending emails, in my opinion, that s the most helpful writing skills because of its intimate connection to our life experiences all the time. At the beginning of this semester, I would rather walk in the office than sending an email due to spending a long time on organizing sentences with an appropriate expression. Originally, emails are supposed to create conveniences, however, because of unfamiliar with English things may backfire, just like the counterexample email showed on the video. Timely knowledges about emails at the first class bring a lot conveniences, as well avoiding normal mistakes, including improper greeting, wordy expression, incorrect format. I also think it s of great importance to learn about that how to set brief but clear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brutality, sadism, and oppression emerge as the substantive core of the romantic ethos. (Dworkin 112). Jeffreys quotes the above from Dworkin in her own analysis of feet binding, ultimately concluding that foot binding was the nascent precursor of a wave of prostitution which swept China. By engaging in beauty practices, women are not only rendered playthings, which is what the three seem to suggest, but are additionally retooled to fit subservient economic roles, which serve to heighten and establish the hierarchal dominance of men. Applying this economic perspective provides greater resolution and understanding of patriarchal hierarchies. As Karen A. Callaghan observes in her introduction to the anthology Ideals of Feminine Beauty: Philosophical, Social, and Cultural Dimensions, The gender hierarchy is sustained by beauty norms that define women s power, self assertion and worth in terms that reify male dominance. (Callaghan ix). Understanding the consolidation of male dominance necessitates defining these hierarchies in a way that describes how female subservience is produced. It is important to note that these hierarchies are multifaceted and exist as political, social, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Operation Oluja Essay Effects and Results of Oluja Operation Oluja is the largest military operation in Croatian history, as well as a decisive turning point in the overall conflict on the territory of former Yugoslavia. With Operation Oluja around 14 % of the total territory of the Republic of Croatia was liberated. Its ending and results marked the collapse of the Greater Serbia idea of uniting all Serbian countries in former Yugoslavia and the creation of Greater Serbia. It changed the strategic force ratio in the region, which directly influenced the bringing of the Serbs to the negotiating table. It took the change of the strategic situation, which had been brought about by Croatian military successes, to create the conditions for the implementation of US led peacekeeping initiatives of USA, Germany, France, Great Britain and Russia , as well as for the signing of the Dayton Agreement and a complete cessation of military operations in Croatia and BiH. Operation Oluja inflicted a total defeat on the SVK, while the VRS was de facto on the verge of collapse. By unblocking the BihaД‡ enclave in western Bosnia, Oluja relieved the forces of the 5th Corps of ARBiH from the complete encirclement and facilitated its engagement on other territories in Bosnia, all of which speeded up the process of forcing the Serbs to ... During an expedition for the most complex, eye catching ad, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon the 2010 Dodge Challenger. A common tradition and theme in music is the role of men and women and how each gender is perceived or included in a tradition. Tango is an example of this; men are supposed to be a strong, masculine, even virile figure who lead the effeminate, submissive female partner. Another example of genderroles in musicis in the musics of Native Americans and First Nation people where traditionally only men were able to play the drums in the middle of the circle at large gatherings such as powwows. The dance style of tango is supposed to display traditional gender roles of men and women and the man in the dance is typically leading the women who is supposedly in need of a strong man and is dressed in a way to exhibit her natural sexuality. The interest for life saving organ donation has such little supply that the doctors of waiting patients are so desperate that they believe compensation is their only option. Enhanced survival rates combined with unfaltering development of signs for transplantation make the organdeficiency progressively severe; waiting times are now deplorably long. In order to cut the waiting period, compensating donors will promote more individuals to become donors. Although there are many people who disagree with the idea to compensate donors, people who donate their kidneys should be compensated because more individuals will be drawn to donate their kidneys in return for monetary value. Additionally, donors should be compensated because they are giving an organ from their body part away. Individuals and their families pay for dialysis each year hoping they will be chosen to receive the next available organ they have been longing for. These individuals often do not think about how they could be paying a donor for a much lower price instead of dialysis which does not guarantee the organ you desire. Picking a single coral attribute in a whole reef allows endless mimicry possibilities for the octopi and increases their chances of evading a predator. Becker says that he has attempted to pry economists away from the narrow assumptions of self interest claiming that behavior is driven by a much wider set of values then personal utility. He analyses the visual representations of Afro Caribbean s and challenges the notions of identity from African and European places. Hall then goes on to explain how Caribbean cinema has chosen to both, refute and embrace European influence. He presents two different forms of thinking about cultural identity. In the first position, Hall defines cultural identity in terms of one, shared culture, which people with a shared history and ancestry hold in common. The first model uses stable, unchanging and continuous frames of reference and meanings to present the idea of shared culture, history, and ancestry rooted beneath more superficial imposed selves (Hall, 223). ... The best folding electric scooters should have a small radio that allows the users of the same, to be handled in narrow spaces such as the aisles of supermarkets or elevators and landings. Scooters must also have sufficient ground clearance so they can roll on surfaces or objects without damaging the chassis or engine. And in restaurants, small children leave food and family behind when it plays on the jukebox. ``It`` is ``La Bamba.`` The current hot single (the one that plays on the radio every five minutes) is by the group Los Lobos. • 39. The Boston Massacre The Boston Massacre The tension between the colonies and Britain was nothing new. There were several occasions where the colonies became greatly infuriated with the unpleasant treatment they were receiving. Prior to the year 1770, much of the outcry came from the acts passed by the British government, such as the Stamp Act, Quartering Act, and Declaratory Act ( A Timeline of the American Revolution). Even though the colonists were infuriated, it would take something more to push them over the edge. This something would turn out to be what is now called the Boston Massacre. Although the Boston Massacre won t go down as the deadliest massacre in American history, it will go down as one of the most pivotal turning points due to the colonists depiction of the event. Several things happened leading up to the massacre itself, which are important to note. The colonists were becoming increasingly frustrated with Britain, which led to political unrest. To counteract this unrest, British troops were sent to Boston, where they arrived on October 1, 1968. Originally, there wasn t an open resistance to the presence of the troops. Over time, things would change, which can be derived from the events of March 5, 1770. There were two sides: the mob of colonists and the the British soldiers. The colonists ended up attacking a British sentinel, leaving the British captain to call in more soldiers, who were also attacked. • 42. Eddie Mabo Case And Their Role In The Case Describe the individual of group that initiated the case and their role in the case. Provide background information about them. Eddie Mabo s ancestors lived for centuries on a group of three islands in the Torres Strait, near Cape York. The islands, known as the Murray Islands, were annexed by the Queensland Government in 1879 which meant they became a part of Australia Queensland became responsible for their administration but despite this annexation, and the presence of European missionaries on the islands, the indigenous people permanently and continuously inhabited them with very little change to their way of life as a result of the annexation. They continued to live in their settled communities; they maintained their traditional beliefs and customs; there was a clear way of passing on their garden plots of land, and ways of settling disputes about legal matters. Mabo was a long running case launched by the Meriam people of the Murray Islands to challenge the validity of state land laws and seek recognition of rights to land. It involved the High Court considering the application of Australian law to the rights of Indigenous Australians, in particular regarding the legal concepts of terra nullius and native title What was the event of right violation that led to legal action being taken? In the late 1970s, the Queensland Government attempted to dispossess some of the local people in their own land. In 1982, Five members on the island of Mer decided to take the matters to court, one of these people was Eddie Mabo. They claimed that their rights to the land had not been extinguished by the Crown when their islands were taken over or annexed by Queensland. They still had a legal right to the land based on the legal concept of native title right of ownership based on traditional ownership of the land. The Queensland Government s response was to pass the Coast Islands Declaratory Act, 1985. They claimed that: All rights to the land went to the Crown on the 1879 annexation that native title had been extinguished, and that no compensation for loss of land would be due to the Meriam people. Reflective practice has become very popular over the last few decades throughout a variety of professions. In some professions it has become one of the defining features of competence. The wide spread utilization of reflective practice is due to the fact that it rings true (Loughran, 2000). Within different disciplines, what is understood by reflective practice varies considerably (Fook et al, 2006). Despite this, some agreement has been achieved. In general, reflective practice is understood as the process of learning through and from experience towards gaining new insights of self and/or practice (Boud et al 1985;... Biology Fermentation Practical A comparison of the respiration of yeast in different sugar substrates Aim: The aim was to compare the respiration of yeast in different substrates of sugars, i.e. between a monosaccharide (glucose) and a disaccharide (maltose) Theory: There are three types of Carbohydrates, monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. The two, which I will be looking at, are, monosaccharide (glucose) and the disaccharide (maltose) Classification and major properties of carbohydrates GroupPropertiesExamples Monosaccharides general formula:(CH20)n(n = 3 to 0)Small molecules with low molecular mass; sweet tasting; crystalline; readily soluble in water.Trioses, e.g. glyceraldehyde (C3H603)Hexoses e.g. glucose, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Breaking this bond would slow the rate of CO2 produced in the respiration of yeast with the disaccharide in comparison to the monosaccharide. My hypothesis can be justified by the way in which yeast digests with the chosen sugars. Yeast is a single celled fungus, most in the class of Ascomycetes. The Ascomycetes yeasts include the common bread, beer, and wine producing varieties of Saccharomyces Cereviseae. As yeast is a fungus and possesses no chlorophyll, it would be unable to photosynthesise. Therefore the yeast must obtain its carbohydrates by secreting enzymes onto the surface on which it is growing. In the case of glucose and maltose, these enzymes are zymase and maltase. Maltose requires the specific maltase enzyme to first hydrolyse the glycosidic bond in between the glucose subunits of maltose before the zymase enzyme can break down the two ГЎ glucose monomers from maltose. However glucose only requires the zymase enzyme to be broken down into ethanol and CO2, maltose. As the glycosidic bond needs to be hydrolysed in maltose to form two monomers of glucose, and additionally two enzymes are needed to break down maltose, is the reason why I think that the rate of CO2 produced by the respiration of yeast will be ... Due to a number of factors, commercial disputes in New York, New York, may linger in the court system for years. Because these cases may take so long to resolve, many parties have turned to mediation to more quickly finalize these cases. Many commercial disputes involve a number of parties, many of whom may not be known at the time of the dispute. Tracking down all of the parties in a commercial dispute may take several weeks, and ensuring that they are named properly in court documents takes additional time. Similarly, many of these parties may be difficult to locate after a lawsuit has been filed. Why does this matter? A defendant must not only be named properly in a lawsuit, but also must be served with notice of the lawsuit. If a defendant is particularly difficult to locate or serve, it will delay progress in the case.
