Bonding Social Capital
Bonding social capital refers to the relation among homogenous group of individuals such as close
friends, family members and same caste ( Putnam, 2000, p and Woolcock, 2001,p..). Putnam
explain that bonding social capital play crucial role especially for mobilizing solidarity and
fostering reciprocity (Aldrich,2012, p.165). Aldrich simplify that bonding social capital have strong
ties and relationship of network within homophile (i.e. high level of similarity) households or
communities with in same location. He further explain that, the family, friends, neighbours and
individuals who has strong ties, share information, resources and discuss about their social and
household s issues (Aldrich, 2012, p. 34). Similalry bonding social capital

Sexual Harassment At The Civil Rights Act
With such practices agencies protect not only the victims rights but also evidence that is later used
in cases. This stratifies Miranda Rights actives that have grave concern for the effect... that the
individual may not be compelled to incriminate himself (Linkins, 2007). This practice also satisfies
the State, who has interest in protecting clear evidence of proper due process procedures and
statements given. In instances where states aim to protect victims under different circumstances,
for example individuals using cameras to harass others; states must adapt and utilizes laws already
at their disposal.
18 USC В§ 2510 2516 addresses wire tapping and privies protection against illegally tapping
someone s telephone, and 47 USC В§ 223 of the Communication Decency Act prohibits interstate or
foreign telecommunications that is used with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass
another... Title 42 of the Civil Rights Act may be utilized to address online victimization. This
statute has been interpreted to prohibit sexual harassment in work environments (Southworth, Finn,
Dawson, Fraser, Tucker, 2007).
States can utilize other statues in an effort to protect victims. Such statues can be applied to
cameras, invasion of privacy, and even stalking attempts where cameras and such devices are used.
The need for exact laws with cameras is sometimes clear but how and what statues are not always
so.

18th Amendment Failure
The 18th amendment made made the manufacture, sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol
illegal. This amendment was a huge failure because it causes people to go behind the laws back
and drink illegally. There was a secret drinking establishment called speakeasies and there were
also people who provided alcohol illegally and they were called bootleggers. The act that enforced
prohibition was the volstead act.
Congress passes the Volstead Act over President Woodrow Wilson s veto. The Volstead Act
provided for the enforcement of the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, also known as the
Prohibition Amendment. In 1933, the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was passed and ratified,
repealing prohibition. The Twenty first Amendment to the United States Constitutionrepealed the
Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which had mandated nationwide
Prohibition on alcohol on January 16, 1919. The Twenty first Amendment was ratified on
December 5, 1933. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Congress provided states with a period of seven years in which to ratify the amendment, the
approval took just over a year. The government now found itself with a bigger problem than
prohibition of alcoholic beverages. As the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and police worked
to control and end mob (organized crime) violence, and as the country suffered through the early
years of the Great Depression, lawmakers in Washington reconsidered the amendment. On February
20, 1933, the U.S. Congress proposed that the Eighteenth Amendment be repealed. Approved by the
states in December of that year, the Twenty First Amendment declared the Eighteenth Amendment
null. The manufacture, transportation, and consumption of alcoholic beverages was again legal in
the United States; this ended the 13 year period of Prohibition. Franklin D Roosevelt, president at
the time of repeal, called Prohibition a noble

The Pros And Cons Of Mentoring
Introduction
Merriam Webster defines mentoring as process where a more knowledgeable individual imparts
knowledge and experience to a less experienced individual (Mentoring (n.d). In Merriam Webster).
Mentoring is an effective way to assist and encourage teachers to direct their own learning so that
they are able to realize their potential, enhance their skills, and become the teacher that they desire
to be (Hudson 2013). There are a few differences that occur between mentoring and coaching.
Firstly coaching is short term and usually lasts for a brief period of time or for a few sessions
(Stowers Barker 2010). Mentoring is long term and can span over a longer period of time, usually
for a year (Stowers Barker 2010). Another difference that occurs when refereeing to mentoring and
coaching is that coaching is driven by performance, and the purpose for this is to improve the
individual s job performance (Clutterbuck 2008). Mentoring is focused on development the reason
for implementing it, is to improve the individual for the current job as well for the future
(Clutterbuck 2008). This paper will examine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lack of time allocated to the mentoring process is an issue of concern. This often may occur
because too much of the time has been spent on other tasks such as paperwork, rather than
reflecting or discussing about the progress, areas of concern or issues that have arisen (Lofthouse
Thomas, 2014). Another issue that often arises is the various roles that the mentor may hold.
According to Lofthouse and Thomas, (2014), the various roles that a mentor has and the
expectations of each role that they are expected to perform in, may affect the amount of mentoring
time available to the mentee. This will often leave the mentee feeling frustrated as they will need to
wait, or may not get the opportunity to discuss issues that may be experiencing (Lofthouse Thomas,

The Leaders And Servant Leaders
Different types of leaders have different traits such as a narcissistic leader is egotistical; self
absorbing who basically is only concerned with their wants and needs. Covenant leaders are
moral, ethical and humbly put others before themselves. Then there are the servant leaders who
believe they are there to provide service to others. Anyone can be a leader, but it is in how they
lead which determines the traits they carry and use. Their purpose is to lead successfully so that
others may follow in their footsteps.
Traits of a leader can be described as dimensions of individual differences in tendencies to show
consistent patterns of thoughts, feelings, and actions (Nichols, 2016, para.5). Some are risk takers,
some look forward to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best test is:
Do those served grow as persons; do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more
autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? (Mittal Dorfman, 2012 para.7).
Servant leaders are much like mentors and teachers they believe in building strong relationships
and bonds with those they work with or in their ways of thinking work for. Servant leaders find
the best in people and try to bring that out in them so they develop ways to grow their self and
their skills/talents. Servant leaders have a way of looking out for the needs of others, and do what
they can to help and meet those needs.
These types of leaders have the ability to teach and inspire belonging, esteem, and self
actualization, are about an employee feeling valued to do their best work, make a difference, and
be appreciated and respected by others for their contribution (Mertel Brill, 2015, para.5). This also
can help in job satisfaction with the employees and when the employees feel happy and their work
valued, they have the tendency to stay with the job for longer periods of time. servant leadership
begins with a clear and compelling vision of the future that excites passion in the leader and
commitment in those who follow (Blanchard Hodges, 2007 p. 45). Traits of Servant leadership
The premise of servant leadership is that leaders give priority to the well being of followers over

Racism And Mccarthyism In Orson Welles s Touch Of Evil
Orson Welles 1958 film, Touch of Evil, focuses in on some societal issues that were present
during the time period of the mid to late 1950s, and uses its narrative and distinct visual style to
get the point across. Some of these themes featured in the film include racism, McCarthyism,
drug usage in border towns, and legal hierarchies. This is done particularly with its use of
borders as a metaphor for all the activity going on in the film. The film begins with a long,
tracking shot after a bomb is placed inside a car. We follow the car and see a couple walking
down the street together. Because of this choice of shot, we are offered two vital introductions
in one: We are introduced to both the inciting incident, as well as two of the main characters. As
soon as the two main characters, Susie and Mike Vargas, make their way to the Mexican border,
we are introduced to one of the many themes that will be prevalent in the film, and that is racism.
Although the border patrolmen do not seem at all phased by the sight of an interracial couple,
the cue that guides the audience to notice the undertones of racial prejudice, come in the mise en
scene. Immediately after Mike kisses his wife, the bomb goes off just several feet away from
them, using the inciting incident also as a tool to say that the general public will not agree with a
white woman being married to a Latino man. Now it is possible that I may be getting ahead of
myself when talking about racism in the film. While it

The Ones Who Walk Away From 1861-1865
The perception of reality and morality differs from individual to individual, from community to
community. The different cultures throughout the world provide breeding grounds to many
different kinds of ethical values and societies. In The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas, the
author Ursula Leguin, creates a society that may be perceived as corrupt and unfair, yet is not
too different from our own. Omelas is neither a city of happiness nor a Utopia; it is a city of
paradox, of false freedom and desperation. The people of Omelas live lives full of happiness and
comfort, over a rotten foundation of an abused and abandoned child. Yet Leguin sympathizes
with the ones who choose to stay in Omelas for she believes that they are helpless, stuck in the
paradox of moral obligations and moral values. The Omeleans stay for they live in denial, creating
a reality different from ours. To them, they either believe it is truly moral to uphold the
community, with the sacrifice of one child, or they live in Omelas as an obligation, infinitely
appreciative for the child sacrifice. The ones who leave however, do not want to feel obligation, to
rely on this child for happiness. They want to be responsible for their own happiness. Unfortunately,
similar to the Omeleans, Americans consume hundreds of pounds of meata day; hundreds of cows,
chicken and pigs brutally handled and abused for the pleasure of our taste buds. The citizens of
Omelas who choose to stay are merely residents living in

Barbie Stereotypes
There have been several articles calling attention to the images children are exposed in cartoons,
or Disney productions, but what about the toys they play with? In the death grip of my two year
old sister, like many other young girls, lies a fairy princess Barbie doll. Barbie has been the toy of
choice for girls everywhere since her debut fifty years ago, representing the ideal girl with a
perfect life to match that can not be achieved. Barbie and other dolls alike negatively affect young
girls causing body image issues and low self esteem.
Since 1965, Barbie, and more recently, the Bratz line of dolls, have been the poster children for
beauty, despite their grotesquely disproportionate appearance. Barbie and Bratz dolls were meant
to represents average girls in their teen years tall, flowing hair and incredibly thin, a body image
that is not possible for every girl, though Mattel s slogan Barbie can be anything! And so can you!
might suggest otherwise. For the company to insist young girls compare themselves to the piece
of plastic that is a Barbie doll, is completely outrageous. Looking at the doll s physical
appearance, it s clear that a real person could never embody this image. Breaking down the doll s
structure, there are feet readily bent for high heels, long muscular legs and thin arms, not to
mention the fact that the head of a Barbie or Bratz doll exceeds the width of it s waist! To even
begin to entertain this image is unrealistic. What are we telling

Horror Versus Terror
Before beginning my argument and analysis, it is first necessary to discuss some of the basic
contrasting features of the concepts of horror versus terror, beginning with the concept as outlined
by Paul Wells. On this distinction, and first referring to terror, he writes terror stimulates the desire
to actively come to terms with shock; to enjoy its provocation and understand its effect. [...]
Horror, however, has only a negative and paralysing effect; a wholly nihilistic and enduring
condition of death and oppression (Wells 11). Our class lecture from March 8th clarified, largely
encompassing the definition provided by Wells, that terror is a reactionary, automatic response to
an external threat in which the fearis immediate and involves... Show more content on

We also went over how horror involves the realization that evil exists in the world, but is largely
not something that can be seen in the world, only in one s own mind, and that while terror and
horror coexist, horror can never come before an interrelated experience of terror, but terror can
inspire later horror, though not simultaneously as there must be some separation in time (Wynter 8
March; Wells 11 13). We learned that horror requires thought, memory, and imagination and that it
must be separated by time from whatever experience or event inspired it, even if that event was
terror, in our lecture on March 8th, and in a lecture on April 5th we connected the immediate fear
of terror and the more prolonged and building experience of horror to common themes and tropes
used in many, if not almost all horror films today, which involves the overall change in, and
usually tightening, of space in order to elicit horror, and the growing distance in time that builds
the experience of horror (Wynter 8 March, 5 April; Wells

What I Learned In My Leadership Class
Q1: What have you leaded about yourself throughout this class? How have you changed? Reflect on
both the strength you have discovered and areas you need to improve on regarding leadership.
Think about our Character Traits of the Week, collaborating with others, problem solving skills,
critical thinking, etc.
A: Throughout this 9 weeks, this class has helped to speed up and aid my recovery. Without this
class, I feel as though I would have relapsed into the pit of depression I found myself in last year.
More specifically, this class has shown me my capabilities and given me much more self
confidence. It s amazing to think last year people considered me a pretty carefree person, as I
feel this year I have only become more free with myself and real with how I view myself, and my
world around me. Not only has this class shown me more internal things about myself, but it has
also taught me how to better communicate my thoughts and opinions to others around me. Like

difference between being a leader and being a boss, as I fear I would have lived my entire life
too afraid to truly take charge due to thinking I was being bossy. This realization of the
difference between the two occurred during our friday jump rope activity when I burst out with
a new idea, only to later apologize for my behaviour in thinking I was being bossy. Mr. Jones
corrected me in introducing the idea that that was, in fact, leading. One of my favorite lessons
was the one on failure. The fear of failure article was inspiring and really allowed me to check

Topology Infrastructure While category 5 enhanced (CAT 5e) is the current standard for network

provides good electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection, it only has a limit of 1 gigabit
transmission speed. CAT 6e, provides EMI protection also, but has the capability of up to 10
gigabit transmission between clients and servers. Because of how quickly networking technology

port per IDF will host an interconnected CAT 6e cable for redundancy in case the fiber optic
cable becomes unserviceable; having both a fiber optic cable and a CAT 6e cabling
interconnecting the network switches creates a fault tolerant network. Furthermore, to
accommodate the transient nature of ABC Company s employees during their day to day
operations, a wireless access point (WAP) will be installed centrally on each floor. Because of
the location of each WAP, there is a chance of signal bleed over between floors. To mitigate this
possibility, each floor will have a non overlapping channel assigned to it; floor one will use
channel 1, floor two will utilize channel 6, and floor three will employ channel 11. Furthermore,
the antenna strength will be configured so there is minimal signal bleed over outside of the
confines of the office while still having full connectivity within the confines of the building. With
this wireless architecture, employees can move from floor to floor and maintain network
connectivity without co channel interference from channel bleed over. When employees are

integrity to stand up for what they know is right. 2. In today s world there would be some mixed
reactions to a senator like Jefferson Smith. Some people would disapprove of him because he is
not the characteristic senator and has no political experience. They would think that he was
young, and inexperienced, and that he did not deserve to be in such a highly respected position.

Smith is a pure, truthful man who loves and trusts his government. He wants to do what is right

attitudes change. By the end the events that occur open Mr. Smith s eyes to how the

Symbolism In The Black Cat
In the short tale The Black Cat, Edgar Allen Poe expresses his hate and love for cats. With
twisting words and mystical views, the tale takes place in the 1840 s. Within this classic
American Literature Gothic tale, symbolism is depicted throughout with many plot twists the
story is told. While The Black Cat was written to achieve an effect of shocking insanity in this
time period it did just that. In this first person narrative the narrator tells of the readers of his
decline from sanity and madness, all because of an obsession with two or maybe one black cat.
This short story easily achieved the effect and use of symbolism. In this tale the use of
symbolizes are represented by the setting, the cat or cats, the house and his wife, all of which are
a great representation of Edgar Allen Poe s imaginary and life. In the tale the setting was a sign of
symbolism. Poe represented this in the plot development with a diverse word choice, and detailed
character development. In most cases, the setting is usually indelible to a story, but The Black Cat
relies little on this element. Poe used detailed character development so the reader begins to
empathize with the characters. With just enough character information given out at the time of
the horrific event the reader will feel connected. This tale could have occurred anywhere and can
be placed in any era. This makes the setting the weakest element of The Black Cat. Poe does not
say a certain location of where it takes place leaving the reader to wonder. The most obvious of
symbolic references in this story is the first and the second cat that arrives in the tale and the
name chosen, Pluto. Pluto leads his owner down the path toward insanity and loss of reason
(Lombardi, Esther). As Poe states in the following quote Pluto is his best friend, why would he
have killed them? Pluto this was the cat s name was my favorite pet and playmate. I alone fed
him, and he attended me wherever I went about the house. It was even with difficulty that I could
prevent him from following me through the streets (Edgar Allen Poe). Could the man in the tale
have been a drunken fool, or suffered for a psychotic illness. If you love an animal that much a

Hamlets Oedipus Complex Essays
Various works of literature contain characters who embody the elements of the classic Oedipus
Complex, that of a son with an undue and unhealthy attachment to his mother. D.H Lawrence
amp;#8217;s Sons and Lovers, along with other early modernist works, shows how a son
amp;#8217;s bond to his mother can lead to that character amp;#8217;s major downfall. Even
earlier than works of the late 19th Centurydoes the Oedipus Complex appear, in this case, William
Shakespeare amp;#8217;s Hamlet. Shakespeare amp;#8217;s play about the Prince of Denmark

An interesting insight into the basis for this idea is that there is no knowledge with interpretation
of data (Mauleon Bergman, 2009). Nearly 50 years after his death, researchers are continuing to
incorporate Shewhart s principles in an effort to improve quality in healthcare. In a recently
published paper, control charts were used to identify patients who developed adverse outcomes
following elective colon resection (Fry, Pine, Jones Meimbah, 2012). These patients may have
experienced a special cause variation resulting in an increased length of stay in the hospital. An
awareness of the factors that may contribute to the occurrence of these variations may lead to
improved outcomes and decreased costs.

Addiction To Social Media Addiction
Social media has been proven to be addictive, but like the drug LSD, the effects vary from person
to person; adolescents and persons with narcissistic traits are the most commonly affected, while
depression is the biggest identifier it is also being the most common side effect. While social media
has become the prominent communicationmedium of the day, as a society we have commonly
avoided the fact that social media is as addictive as any substance in existence. Even though it is
now know that social media is addictive, proven by The Bergen Facebook AddictionScale(BFAS),

(black book citation) In 2012 Facebook capitalized on addiction by acquiring Instagram for one
billion dollars. It was a decision that was monetarily advantageous because it was clear that with
the amount of users that made their way to Facebook a need to satisfy visual competition between
friends and acquaintances would become prevalent due to the human nature. With the acquisition
of Instagram, a price was placed on the mental health of every single person who decides to sign
in to not only Facebook, but every other social media medium that can satisfy the lust of addiction.
With every person who is exposed to social media being at risk for developing addiction,
adolescents are much more likely to develop addiction. The development of the smart phone has
made access to the internet completely available for immediate consumption. Social media has
evolved past person to person communication and is now a platform for all internet content. A
majority of Americans(60%) are now admitting to be addicted to the internet, but an even larger
portion(73%) of those between the ages of 13 17 are being effected in some way by addictive
internet use. In a typical newsfeed on Facebook, it is not uncommon to find articles being posted

Oprah Winfrey Changed Society
A Show That Changed The American Society
How has Oprah Winfrey affected others? Oprah Winfrey moved many people and changed how
some people live: she affected people s life in a good way. She had a rough life early on, but
people see who she became and how great she actually is. Oprah Winfrey changed society because
of her motivational attitude on the Oprah Winfrey Show. It s almost showtime at the Rosemont
horizon. One of Chicago s most cavernous arenas is filled to the brim for a Lionel Richie concert.
Suddenly an agitated murmur echoes through the hall (Most Talked about tv host 5). A star has
been spotted amidst the Richie worshippers. As word of the celebrity sighting spreads, the crowds
murmur swells to a loud rhythmic chant, OPRAH! OPRAH! OPRAH! Finally Oprah Winfrey is
coaxed into hopping onto a chair. She waved vigorously and crowd erupts into a minute long
ovation. Oprah Winfrey has indeed arrived.
For some people holding the same position in their career for a long time signifies success. In
television however, it is necessary to move on to bigger and better things. With all of her
experience and success so far, she began to dream bigger. She wanted to host a show by herself
but where? She felt cared for and natural in Baltimore where she grew up, but it was time to
move on. Despite the advice of co workers Oprah accepted a job as host of A.M Chicago with a
$200,000 a year salary and a 4 year unbreakable contract. Everybody kept telling me that it was
going to be impossible to succeed because I was going into Phil Donahue s hometown. She moved
to Chicago in December of 1983. By being herself and featuring interesting guests and topics Oprah
won viewers.
In 1985 Oprah fulfilled a second aspiration acting in a movie. During casting for the film The
Color Purple, the co producer Quincy Jones happened to me in a Chicago hotel. While eating
breakfast and flipping channels he stopped on the A.M Chicago show and was impressed with
Oprah s vibrant personality. Jones knew she would be perfect as Sofia in the movie. Oprah had
read the book in Baltimore in 1982 and had bought dozens of copies to give as gifts. It was one of
her favorite works of fiction. In describing her role as Sofia,

Man s Search For Meaning By Viktor E. Frankl
In the book Man s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl, he uses his past experiences from

the book he describes in details that he had no hope for life as he felt pain, humility, and human
cruelty during his time as a prisoner in multiple concentration camps. Frankl, believed that he had a
chance to survive by using inner strengths. His great sense of humor helped him get though the
many difficult situations that he had encountered. He supposed that what doesn t kill you makes

David Jaffee s Thinking Visually As Historians
In reading Ways of Seeing, I found David Jaffe s and Peter Felten s projects/assignments to be
compelling and intriguing. Jaffee in Thinking Visually as Historians tried to make his students
interpret and analyze specific historical visuals, however, some students demonstrated difficulty
integrating their visual readings with contextual historical understanding. He decided to take a
pedagogical turn by watching his students look, pay attention to the steps they took to analyze
visuals, as a way to understand historical problems and master their use of sources. Through the use
of a scaffolding method, Jaffee created an online miniarchive, selecting a few document sources that

Felten taught a US history course focusing on the 1960s in which students envisioned a Forrest
Gump narrative of the decade. To confront this, Felten designed an exercise to confront student s
beliefs about the 1960s. He gave his students on the first day of class ten primary sources from
the 1960s and asked them in pairs of students to put the sources in chronological order and to
explain why they placed each source where they did. As students began to discuss each source, they
began to notice and see the gaps in Forrest Gump narrative. Students started realizing the 1960s was
more complicated and disrupted their knowledge and beliefs of the decade. This source sequencing
exercise continued over the course of the semester, as students practiced making historical sense of
complex sources, including images and films. Nevertheless, I found Felten s exercise useful
because students learn how to view visuals that help them confront their deeply held beliefs in
particular historical narratives and learn how to analyze the nature of any source from moving

Coke And Pepsi Has Shaped The Soft Drink Industry

Over 100 years, intense rivalry between the two Coke and Pepsi has totally shaped the soft drink
industry of the world (combined they are 73% of the market share). The most battles of the cola
wars were fought over the industry in the USA, where the consumption by an average American
is 53 gallons of carbonated soft drinks per year. In a competitive struggle, from 1975 to 1995 both
had achieved average annual growth of around 10% because of increase in soft drink consumption
consistently in US and worldwide. Then this cozy situation was threatened in the late 1990s, when

Decision Making Process Analysis
Normally people do not break down how they make decisions, they just decide. But, for people
who are making decisions for a larger group, knowing the process could be helpful. The first step
in the process is to identify the problem by fully understanding and gathering all the information
of the problem. Secondly, you want to think of alternatives or other options for handling the
issue. Thirdly, you want to access or evaluate all the alternatives and consider the possible
outcome. Finally, you go forward with the decision and evaluate the outcome (Kinicki and
Williams, 2016). These steps are helpful and critical when making decisions for large groups or
an organization. Along with the steps to decision are the four styles of decision making; they are
directive, analytical, conceptual, and behavioral (Kinicki and Williams, 2016). Directive is used
by leaders who decides quickly. They make decisions on the basis of a relatively small amount of
information. Analytical managers make decisions by researching lots data and having alternatives
choices. The conceptual style is notable in managers with the need for recognition and success.
They tend to be creative and inventive and are willing to take a risk. Behavioral characterizes
managers who work well with others. They are supportive and... Show more content on

The Rise Of Cape Flats In South Africa
South Africa has always been one of the most beautiful places in the world, however, beautiful
places must also have dark periods in history. The Apartheid government was a racial segregation
and discrimination movement in the 1950s and continues to the 1990s. One of the most notable
actions this government undertook was forcibly evicting residents of District Six to the outskirts of
Cape Town called Cape Flats. The Apartheids justified this eviction by declaring District Six as
whites only, even though more than ninety percent of this community was colored. This injustice
caused major upsets in South Africa and soon after, the world (Guardian Weekly). District Six
became an inspiration to many, especially District 9. In another Earth world dimension of 1982, a
group of extraterrestrials arrive on planet Earth to seek refuge from their decaying planet. These
group of extraterrestrials appeared to be malnourished and exhibit some forms of illness, not at all
in the great shape they were expected to be. Although, the human population welcomed them by
providing food and any assistance, the extraterrestrials were segregated from the humans in an
encampment outside of Johannesburg. About twenty or so years later, in 2010, the humans start to
demand that the extraterrestrials to be relocated to another region farther from Johannesburg due
the increase of extraterrestrial involvement in protests, uprisings, gang violence and other
disturbances of the peace. A desk worker promoted as a field operative named Wikus van der

assignment was to relocate the extraterrestrial population of 1.8 million of District 9 to a newer

segregation was portrayed in the film District 9, directed by Neill Blomkamp through racist terms,
xenophobia and inhumane actions. The darkness that the Apartheid government held over South
Africa for decades through institutionalized and legalized racial segregation became the perfect
background of racism for District 9. The story

The Importance Of Totem Poles In The North West America
Totem Poles are not just for show, but for other very important things. There are three important
reasons why Totem Poles are important. Those three reasons are 1) it showed spiritual
significance, 2) who watch over the families, 3) symbolizes guardian spirits or helpers each of
the animals. Totem Poles are made by the Indian tribes in the North West of America. There are
many different kinds of Totem Poles like these: Genealogy, Clan, Social status, Memorial, a
Deceased clan member, Mortuary, deceased. Those are just a few of the different kinds of Totem
Poles. So let s talk in detail how these three things are important.
Let s talk about the first reason mentioned on how it shows spiritual significance. To the Indian
tribes of the North West of America if they practiced something called Totemism then the Totem
Poles would be very important because that would be their religion. They would worship the Totem
Pole. The definition of Totemism is a system of belief in which humans are said to have kinship

thought to interact with a given kin group or an individual and to serve as their emblem or

Questions For The Group Discussion
Two Questions for the group discussion:
Inside a church, a pastor has flipped a verse of the bible to accommodate polygamy. Consulted by a
business millionaire, the pastor ransacked the bible and finally arrived at a verse to support the holy
matrimony. Quoting Isaiah 4:1 the pastor joined the notable influential member with three women .
Does the text Isaiah 4:1 justify the polygamous wedding?
During the discussion, which follows the presentation, the group was amazed at the shocking photo
of a man franked with three women in their weeding attires. The scenario in a sociological
dimension prompted the geographical background where the wedding could have happened. It is
assumed that most Christian communities view polygamy as an abominable act, which presumably
does not conform with most biblical canons. For some geographical areas, it is illegal and
punishable by law, particularly in western society; yet it is acceptable in some countries and
shockingly among faith communities.
The expression that the Pastor flipped a verse of the Bible to accommodate polygamy , could be
inferred that the pastor was either desperate for the man s money or that he was afraid of losing
his membership in his church; and so, he was ready to do anything to keep his buoyant church
member. However, for charity sake, we do not know the bigger picture of what really happened or
what might have moved the pastor to succumb to the risky demand. Sociologically his society

The Drinking Age Should Not Be Lowered
Most people would concur that alcohol should not be given to teenagers. Despite the fact that we
concede to this essential truth, underage drinking is still a noteworthy issue in our nation. Since
adolescents need development and information with regards to liquor, they put themselves, as well
as others in incredible danger when they decide to consume. Regardless of the risk, there are
individuals out there who believe that the drinking age should be lowered. However, their argument
is weak, and when taken into consideration, I still firmly believe that the drinking age should not be
lowered. Underage drinking can prompt an extensive assortment of issues including health
problems, addiction, sexual assault, drunk driving accidents, and death. Granting all this, the legal
drinking agehas been lowered and raised again. Underage drinking should not be allowed in this
country. The risks are far too great and the pros are way too few. Young people have been

Impact of Gold on World Economy
[pic] Introduction
There is very little, if any, effect on the economy from the price of gold. If anything, the opposite
is usually true: perceptions about the economy can directly affect the price of gold. The
usefulness of gold as an economic indicator is questioned by some, but it is still widely
recognized as a hedge against the U.S. dollar and as some measure of inflation. Gold is used in most
electronic devices such as computers and cell phones, but in such small quantities that fluctuations
in the price of gold have very little impact on this sector of the economy.
Gold and Inflation
Traditionally, the price of gold was seen to reflect monetary inflation, that is, inflation of the money
supply. Because the fractional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gold Options vs. Gold Futures
Compared to the outright purchase of the underlying gold futures, gold options offer advantages
such as additional leverage as well as the ability to limit potential losses. However, they are also
wasting assets that have the potential to expire worthless.
[pic]
Additional Leverage
Compared to taking a position on the underlying gold futures outright, the buyer of a gold option
gains additional leverage since the premium payable is typically lower than the margin requirement
needed to open a position in the underlying gold futures.
Limit Potential Losses
As gold options only grant the right but not the obligation to assume the underlying gold futures
position, potential losses are limited to only the premium paid to purchase the option.
Flexibility
Using options alone, or in combination with futures, a wide range of strategies can be implemented
to cater to specific risk profile, investment time horizon, cost consideration and outlook on
underlying volatility.
Time Decay
Options have a limited lifespan and are subjected to the effects of time decay. The value of a
gold option, specifically the time value, gets eroded away as time passes. However, since trading
is a zero sum game, time decay can be turned into an ally if one choose to be a seller of options
instead of buying them.

collected their data information from Sedgwick County, Kansas Protection from Abuse court. The
main research questions that Etter and Birzer studied in the study were the demographic
characteristics of the abusers. The researchers want to know if anyone of the abusers have a
criminal background, or if there was difference between female and male past offending. The first
question in the study asked for the characteristics of the violent domestic abusers. ... Show more

One thing they found, is that the study was a descriptive study limited to just violent offenders who
were served at the Protection from Abuse order in just one community. So the finding will have a
limitation in general. The other second limitation is that, there is limited information. The scholars
did not have enough information on the abuser is home life, like financial status or employment
situation. On the finally the limitation, the study was able to get only offenders who have been
caught by the criminal justice system and convicted for crime only. There are many changes in the
results because there are many people who are not trapped by criminal justice system and have
different characteristics. The main opinions that were given by Etter and Birzer, for future
research, is to examine if the female abusers were the actual aggressor or just a mutual combatant;
because of the high number of abusers who had past criminal records. Experts suggested, there
should be a better screening for batters and lastly the effectiveness of the protection abuse

Behavior Change Project Report
Behavior Change Project
Selecting a Student
I selected my student from one of my students that I viewed to have some of the worst behavior
in the class. I am at Bond Elementary School which is an intercity school. Most of the school s
student population comes from subsidized housing (the projects). I am in a first grade class of
nineteen students. While performing my duties at in Mrs. J Williams Classroom I became very
eager to observe as well as work with a student by the name of Ja Von W. Ja Von is a six year old,
I recently found out that his mother is on drugs and is being supported by his sixteen year old
brother. Many of the students that I have observed in the classroom have had behavior problems
and issues with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the intervention after helping him with his vocabulary and introducing the interventive
technique I will record how many words he gets wrong with the tally marks on the form same as I
did for baseline. Ja Von will hopefully be readingwith 80% fluency after the end of the intervention.
Developing an Intervention
The intervention I selected was Chart Moves. The way that I implemented this particular
intervention with the student is by writing his name on the poster in which I supplied. Every time
the student performed the desired behavior, which was reading fluently within two minutes and
answering post questions he would move up half a notch. With the chart, Ja Von would have the
opportunity to earn different reinforcement such as things that he was interested in or things that
he liked. I became aware of the things that he was interested in during the observation phase and
before I introduced him to the intervention, I asked him to make a list of the 10 things that he
enjoyed doing or things that he liked in general. The list included but were not limited too
cookies, candy and action figures. This gave me the opportunity to use the reinforcers as ways to
increase the desired behavior and decrease the inappropriate one. After the intervention was
introduced, it was explained to the student how it would work. Moreover, the way the system was
designed to work in the way that the student would quickly and accurately read a passage

Story Of An Hour Satire
There is immense power in well written satire: it can make its audience laugh with witticisms
rooted in truths, even make them think differently about any subject, mundane or critical. Bad
satire, however, emphasizes all the wrong parts: it gets its facts wrong, goes off track, and closes
its audience s minds to any new way of thinking it might present. Li Chongyue and Wang Lihua s
article would be bad satire, a bad argument. Chongyue and Lihua s A Caricature of an Ungrateful
and Unfaithful Wife distorts Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hourthrough imaginative exaggeration
of character interaction, emotional ignorance, and its simplification of the characters and the text.
Firstly, there is no evidence in the text of The Story of an Hour to suggest that Louise Mallard has
been at all unfaithful to her husband. One sentence within the article suggests that some readers
have sensed an extramarital affair or an attempted one between Mrs. Mallard and Richards, which,
given its inclusion, the authors appear to agree with (Chongyue and Lihua). However, Richards is
mentioned by name in the text of the short storythree times: at the beginning when he confirmed
the news of Brently Mallard s death, toward the end when he awaited Josephine and Louise at
the bottom of the staircase, and when he tries to block Louise from seeing Brently Mallard alive
as he walks in the door (Chopin). He does not even truly interact with Louise: he is described as
near her when she learns of

Miranda v. Arizona 384 United States Supreme Court 436 (1966)
ABSTRACT
The Miranda warning is a landmark case, the Supreme Court decided five to four majority in the

remain silent, that any statement he does make may be used as evidence against him, and that he
has right to presence of an attorney, retained or appointed (Miranda v. Arizona 384 U.S. 436

This amendment was a huge failure because it causes people to go behind the laws back and drink illegally. There was a secret drinking establishment called speakeasies and there were also people who provided alcohol illegally and they were called bootleggers. The act that enforced prohibition was the volstead act. Congress passes the Volstead Act over President Woodrow Wilson s veto. The Volstead Act provided for the enforcement of the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, also known as the Prohibition Amendment. In 1933, the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was passed and ratified, repealing prohibition. On February 20, 1933, the U.S. Congress proposed that the Eighteenth Amendment be repealed. Approved by the states in December of that year, the Twenty First Amendment declared the Eighteenth Amendment null. • 6. The Pros And Cons Of Mentoring Introduction Merriam Webster defines mentoring as process where a more knowledgeable individual imparts knowledge and experience to a less experienced individual (Mentoring (n.d). In Merriam Webster). Mentoring is an effective way to assist and encourage teachers to direct their own learning so that they are able to realize their potential, enhance their skills, and become the teacher that they desire to be (Hudson 2013). There are a few differences that occur between mentoring and coaching. Firstly coaching is short term and usually lasts for a brief period of time or for a few sessions (Stowers Barker 2010). Mentoring is long term and can span over a longer period of time, usually for a year (Stowers Barker 2010). Another difference that occurs when refereeing to mentoring and coaching is that coaching is driven by performance, and the purpose for this is to improve the individual s job performance (Clutterbuck 2008). Mentoring is focused on development the reason for implementing it, is to improve the individual for the current job as well for the future (Clutterbuck 2008). This paper will examine ... This often may occur because too much of the time has been spent on other tasks such as paperwork, rather than reflecting or discussing about the progress, areas of concern or issues that have arisen (Lofthouse Thomas, 2014). Another issue that often arises is the various roles that the mentor may hold. According to Lofthouse and Thomas, (2014), the various roles that a mentor has and the expectations of each role that they are expected to perform in, may affect the amount of mentoring time available to the mentee. This will often leave the mentee feeling frustrated as they will need to wait, or may not get the opportunity to discuss issues that may be experiencing (Lofthouse Thomas, ... • 7. The Leaders And Servant Leaders Different types of leaders have different traits such as a narcissistic leader is egotistical; self absorbing who basically is only concerned with their wants and needs. Covenant leaders are moral, ethical and humbly put others before themselves. Then there are the servant leaders who believe they are there to provide service to others. Anyone can be a leader, but it is in how they lead which determines the traits they carry and use. Their purpose is to lead successfully so that others may follow in their footsteps. Traits of a leader can be described as dimensions of individual differences in tendencies to show consistent patterns of thoughts, feelings, and actions (Nichols, 2016, para.5). The best test is: Do those served grow as persons; do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? (Mittal Dorfman, 2012 para.7). Servant leaders are much like mentors and teachers they believe in building strong relationships and bonds with those they work with or in their ways of thinking work for. Servant leaders find the best in people and try to bring that out in them so they develop ways to grow their self and their skills/talents. Servant leaders have a way of looking out for the needs of others, and do what they can to help and meet those needs. These types of leaders have the ability to teach and inspire belonging, esteem, and self actualization, are about an employee feeling valued to do their best work, make a difference, and be appreciated and respected by others for their contribution (Mertel Brill, 2015, para.5). This also can help in job satisfaction with the employees and when the employees feel happy and their work valued, they have the tendency to stay with the job for longer periods of time. servant leadership begins with a clear and compelling vision of the future that excites passion in the leader and commitment in those who follow (Blanchard Hodges, 2007 p. 45). • 8. Racism And Mccarthyism In Orson Welles s Touch Of Evil Orson Welles 1958 film, Touch of Evil, focuses in on some societal issues that were present during the time period of the mid to late 1950s, and uses its narrative and distinct visual style to get the point across. Some of these themes featured in the film include racism, McCarthyism, drug usage in border towns, and legal hierarchies. This is done particularly with its use of borders as a metaphor for all the activity going on in the film. The film begins with a long, tracking shot after a bomb is placed inside a car. We follow the car and see a couple walking down the street together. Because of this choice of shot, we are offered two vital introductions in one: We are introduced to both the inciting incident, as well as two of the main characters. As soon as the two main characters, Susie and Mike Vargas, make their way to the Mexican border, we are introduced to one of the many themes that will be prevalent in the film, and that is racism. Although the border patrolmen do not seem at all phased by the sight of an interracial couple, the cue that guides the audience to notice the undertones of racial prejudice, come in the mise en scene. Immediately after Mike kisses his wife, the bomb goes off just several feet away from them, using the inciting incident also as a tool to say that the general public will not agree with a white woman being married to a Latino man. The different cultures throughout the world provide breeding grounds to many different kinds of ethical values and societies. In The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas, the author Ursula Leguin, creates a society that may be perceived as corrupt and unfair, yet is not too different from our own. Omelas is neither a city of happiness nor a Utopia; it is a city of paradox, of false freedom and desperation. The people of Omelas live lives full of happiness and comfort, over a rotten foundation of an abused and abandoned child. Yet Leguin sympathizes with the ones who choose to stay in Omelas for she believes that they are helpless, stuck in the paradox of moral obligations and moral values. The Omeleans stay for they live in denial, creating a reality different from ours. To them, they either believe it is truly moral to uphold the community, with the sacrifice of one child, or they live in Omelas as an obligation, infinitely appreciative for the child sacrifice. The ones who leave however, do not want to feel obligation, to rely on this child for happiness. They want to be responsible for their own happiness. In the death grip of my two year old sister, like many other young girls, lies a fairy princess Barbie doll. Barbie has been the toy of choice for girls everywhere since her debut fifty years ago, representing the ideal girl with a perfect life to match that can not be achieved. Barbie and other dolls alike negatively affect young girls causing body image issues and low self esteem. Since 1965, Barbie, and more recently, the Bratz line of dolls, have been the poster children for beauty, despite their grotesquely disproportionate appearance. Barbie and Bratz dolls were meant to represents average girls in their teen years tall, flowing hair and incredibly thin, a body image that is not possible for every girl, though Mattel s slogan Barbie can be anything! And so can you! might suggest otherwise. For the company to insist young girls compare themselves to the piece of plastic that is a Barbie doll, is completely outrageous. Looking at the doll s physical appearance, it s clear that a real person could never embody this image. Breaking down the doll s structure, there are feet readily bent for high heels, long muscular legs and thin arms, not to mention the fact that the head of a Barbie or Bratz doll exceeds the width of it s waist! • 11. Horror Versus Terror Before beginning my argument and analysis, it is first necessary to discuss some of the basic contrasting features of the concepts of horror versus terror, beginning with the concept as outlined by Paul Wells. On this distinction, and first referring to terror, he writes terror stimulates the desire to actively come to terms with shock; to enjoy its provocation and understand its effect. [...] Horror, however, has only a negative and paralysing effect; a wholly nihilistic and enduring condition of death and oppression (Wells 11). We learned that horror requires thought, memory, and imagination and that it must be separated by time from whatever experience or event inspired it, even if that event was terror, in our lecture on March 8th, and in a lecture on April 5th we connected the immediate fear of terror and the more prolonged and building experience of horror to common themes and tropes used in many, if not almost all horror films today, which involves the overall change in, and usually tightening, of space in order to elicit horror, and the growing distance in time that builds the experience of horror (Wynter 8 March, 5 April; Wells ... • 15. Symbolism In The Black Cat In the short tale The Black Cat, Edgar Allen Poe expresses his hate and love for cats. With twisting words and mystical views, the tale takes place in the 1840 s. Within this classic American Literature Gothic tale, symbolism is depicted throughout with many plot twists the story is told. While The Black Cat was written to achieve an effect of shocking insanity in this time period it did just that. In this first person narrative the narrator tells of the readers of his decline from sanity and madness, all because of an obsession with two or maybe one black cat. This short story easily achieved the effect and use of symbolism. In this tale the use of symbolizes are represented by the setting, the cat or cats, the house and his wife, all of which are a great representation of Edgar Allen Poe s imaginary and life. In the tale the setting was a sign of symbolism. Poe represented this in the plot development with a diverse word choice, and detailed character development. In most cases, the setting is usually indelible to a story, but The Black Cat relies little on this element. Poe used detailed character development so the reader begins to empathize with the characters. With just enough character information given out at the time of the horrific event the reader will feel connected. This tale could have occurred anywhere and can be placed in any era. This makes the setting the weakest element of The Black Cat. Poe does not say a certain location of where it takes place leaving the reader to wonder. The most obvious of symbolic references in this story is the first and the second cat that arrives in the tale and the name chosen, Pluto. Pluto leads his owner down the path toward insanity and loss of reason (Lombardi, Esther). As Poe states in the following quote Pluto is his best friend, why would he have killed them? Pluto this was the cat s name was my favorite pet and playmate. I alone fed him, and he attended me wherever I went about the house. • 22. Oprah Winfrey Changed Society A Show That Changed The American Society How has Oprah Winfrey affected others? Oprah Winfrey moved many people and changed how some people live: she affected people s life in a good way. She had a rough life early on, but people see who she became and how great she actually is. Oprah Winfrey changed society because of her motivational attitude on the Oprah Winfrey Show. It s almost showtime at the Rosemont horizon. One of Chicago s most cavernous arenas is filled to the brim for a Lionel Richie concert. Suddenly an agitated murmur echoes through the hall (Most Talked about tv host 5). A star has been spotted amidst the Richie worshippers. As word of the celebrity sighting spreads, the crowds murmur swells to a loud rhythmic chant, OPRAH! OPRAH! OPRAH! Finally Oprah Winfrey is coaxed into hopping onto a chair. She waved vigorously and crowd erupts into a minute long ovation. Oprah Winfrey has indeed arrived. For some people holding the same position in their career for a long time signifies success. In television however, it is necessary to move on to bigger and better things. With all of her experience and success so far, she began to dream bigger. She wanted to host a show by herself but where? She felt cared for and natural in Baltimore where she grew up, but it was time to move on. Despite the advice of co workers Oprah accepted a job as host of A.M Chicago with a $200,000 a year salary and a 4 year unbreakable contract. Everybody kept telling me that it was going to be impossible to succeed because I was going into Phil Donahue s hometown. She moved to Chicago in December of 1983. By being herself and featuring interesting guests and topics Oprah won viewers. In 1985 Oprah fulfilled a second aspiration acting in a movie. During casting for the film The Color Purple, the co producer Quincy Jones happened to me in a Chicago hotel. While eating breakfast and flipping channels he stopped on the A.M Chicago show and was impressed with Oprah s vibrant personality. Jones knew she would be perfect as Sofia in the movie. But, for people who are making decisions for a larger group, knowing the process could be helpful. The first step in the process is to identify the problem by fully understanding and gathering all the information of the problem. Secondly, you want to think of alternatives or other options for handling the issue. Thirdly, you want to access or evaluate all the alternatives and consider the possible outcome. During the discussion, which follows the presentation, the group was amazed at the shocking photo of a man franked with three women in their weeding attires. It is assumed that most Christian communities view polygamy as an abominable act, which presumably does not conform with most biblical canons. For some geographical areas, it is illegal and punishable by law, particularly in western society; yet it is acceptable in some countries and shockingly among faith communities. The expression that the Pastor flipped a verse of the Bible to accommodate polygamy , could be inferred that the pastor was either desperate for the man s money or that he was afraid of losing his membership in his church; and so, he was ready to do anything to keep his buoyant church member. So the finding will have a limitation in general. The other second limitation is that, there is limited information. • 42. Behavior Change Project Report Behavior Change Project Selecting a Student I selected my student from one of my students that I viewed to have some of the worst behavior in the class. I am at Bond Elementary School which is an intercity school. Most of the school s student population comes from subsidized housing (the projects). I am in a first grade class of nineteen students. While performing my duties at in Mrs. J Williams Classroom I became very eager to observe as well as work with a student by the name of Ja Von W. Ja Von is a six year old, I recently found out that his mother is on drugs and is being supported by his sixteen year old brother. Many of the students that I have observed in the classroom have had behavior problems and issues with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the intervention after helping him with his vocabulary and introducing the interventive technique I will record how many words he gets wrong with the tally marks on the form same as I did for baseline. Ja Von will hopefully be readingwith 80% fluency after the end of the intervention. Developing an Intervention The intervention I selected was Chart Moves. The way that I implemented this particular intervention with the student is by writing his name on the poster in which I supplied. Every time the student performed the desired behavior, which was reading fluently within two minutes and answering post questions he would move up half a notch. With the chart, Ja Von would have the opportunity to earn different reinforcement such as things that he was interested in or things that he liked. I became aware of the things that he was interested in during the observation phase and before I introduced him to the intervention, I asked him to make a list of the 10 things that he enjoyed doing or things that he liked in general. The list included but were not limited too cookies, candy and action figures. This gave me the opportunity to use the reinforcers as ways to increase the desired behavior and decrease the inappropriate one. After the intervention was introduced, it was explained to the student how it would work. Moreover, the way the system was designed to work in the way that the student would quickly and accurately read a passage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Story Of An Hour Satire There is immense power in well written satire: it can make its audience laugh with witticisms rooted in truths, even make them think differently about any subject, mundane or critical. Bad satire, however, emphasizes all the wrong parts: it gets its facts wrong, goes off track, and closes its audience s minds to any new way of thinking it might present. Li Chongyue and Wang Lihua s article would be bad satire, a bad argument. Chongyue and Lihua s A Caricature of an Ungrateful and Unfaithful Wife distorts Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hourthrough imaginative exaggeration of character interaction, emotional ignorance, and its simplification of the characters and the text. Firstly, there is no evidence in the text of The Story of an Hour to suggest that Louise Mallard has been at all unfaithful to her husband. One sentence within the article suggests that some readers have sensed an extramarital affair or an attempted one between Mrs. Mallard and Richards, which, given its inclusion, the authors appear to agree with (Chongyue and Lihua). However, Richards is mentioned by name in the text of the short storythree times: at the beginning when he confirmed the news of Brently Mallard s death, toward the end when he awaited Josephine and Louise at the bottom of the staircase, and when he tries to block Louise from seeing Brently Mallard alive as he walks in the door (Chopin). He does not even truly interact with Louise: he is described as near her when she learns of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
