Computer animation uses computer graphics to generate animated images. Modern animation typically uses 3D graphics, though 2D is still used for stylistic or faster rendering. Developments in computer graphics are presented annually at SIGGRAPH, where developers strive to achieve film-quality CGI in real-time on personal computers. One early use of computer animation was in the 1973 film Westworld, while the first 3D wireframe imagery was in its 1976 sequel featuring a computer-generated hand and face.

An introduction to Animation. What is Animation? What allows us to experience movements in an animation? How different types of animations are made? What are some uses of animation and what is the impact of animation on society?
Animation has been an integral part of video games. Following are just a few of the ways in which animation plays a role in the creation of today's video games.
Computer graphics are graphics created using computers and the representation of image data by a computer specifically with help from specialized graphic hardware and software.
The interaction and understanding of computers and interpretation of data has been made easier because of computer graphics. Computer graphic development has had a significant impact on many types of media and have revolutionized animation, movies and the video game industry.
Computer animation is the process used for digitally generating animated images. The more general term computer-generated imagery (CGI) encompasses both static scenes and dynamic images, while computer animation only refers to moving images.
Here is the ppt on VFX-Visual effects in which i have included:
-vfx,CGI,some of the categories of vfx, short view of founder ofmarvel comics and ILM-industrial light and magic and examples of same,etc......
3. INTRODUCTION
• Computer animation is the process used for
generating animated images by using
computer graphics. The more general term
computer generated imagery encompasses
both static scenes and dynamic images, while
computer animation only refers to moving
images.
• Modern computer animation usually uses
3D computer graphics, although 2D computer
graphics are still used for stylistic, low
bandwidth, and faster real-time renderings.
Sometimes the target of the animation is the
computer itself, but sometimes the target is
another medium, such as film.
6. DEVELOPMENTS IN CGI TECHNOLOGIES ARE
REPORTED EACH YEAR AT SIGGRAPH, AN
ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER
GRAPHICS AND INTERACTIVE TECHNIQUES,
ATTENDED EACH YEAR BY TENS OF
THOUSANDS OF COMPUTER PROFESSIONALS.
DEVELOPERS OF COMPUTER GAMES AND 3D
VIDEO CARDS STRIVE TO ACHIEVE THE SAME
VISUAL QUALITY ON PERSONAL COMPUTERS IN
REAL-TIME AS IS POSSIBLE FOR CGI FILMS AND
ANIMATION
One of the earliest steps in the history of computer animation was the
1973 movie Westworld, a science-fiction film about a society in which
robots live and work among humans, though the first use of 3D
Wireframe imagery was in its sequel, Futureworld (1976), which
featured a computer-generated hand and face created by then
University of Utah graduate students Edwin Catmull and Fred Parke.
7. • Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of
images of 2-D or 3-D artwork or model positions
in order to create an illusion of movement. The
effect is an optical illusion of motion due to the
phenomenon of persistence of vision, and can be
created and demonstrated in several ways. The
most common method of presenting animation is
as a motion picture or video program, although
there are other methods.
8. 2D ANIMATION
2D animation figures are created and/or edited on the computer
using 2D bitmap graphics or created and edited using 2D vector
graphics. This includes automated computerized versions of
traditional animation techniques such as of, interpolated morphing,
onion skinning and interpolated rotoscoping.
9. 3D COMPUTER GRAPHICS
(IN CONTRAST TO 2D
COMPUTER GRAPHICS)
ARE GRAPHICS THAT USE
A THREE-DIMENSIONAL
REPRESENTATION OF
GEOMETRIC DATA (OFTEN
CARTESIAN) THAT IS
STORED IN THE
COMPUTER FOR THE
PURPOSES OF
PERFORMING
CALCULATIONS AND
RENDERING 6D IMAGES.
SUCH IMAGES MAY BE
STORED FOR VIEWING
LATER OR DISPLAYED IN
REAL-TIME.
3D ANIMATION
10. 3D computer animation combines 3D models of
objects and programmed or hand "keyframed"
movement. Models are constructed out of geometrical
vertices, faces, and edges in a 3D coordinate system.
Objects are sculpted much like real clay or plaster,
working from general forms to specific details with
various sculpting tools.
11. Pixar Animation Studios, commonly referred to as simply
Pixar (pronounced /ˈpɪksɑr/ and stylized as PIXAR), is an
American computer animation film studio based in Emeryville,
California. The studio has earned 26 Academy Awards, seven
Golden Globes, and three Grammy Awards, among many other
awards and acknowledgments.
13. Computer animation can be created with a computer and
animation software. Some impressive animation can be
achieved even with basic programs; however, the rendering
can take a lot of time on an ordinary home computer. Because
of this, video game animators tend to use low resolution, low
polygon count renders, such that the graphics can be
rendered in real time on a home computer.
14. FUTURE OF ANIMATION
One open challenge in computer animation is a photorealistic
animation of humans. The non-photorealistic/cartoonish direction is
more like an extension of traditional animation.
