Response To Public Transportation Is The Way To Go
The author supports his claim very well in this article, Public Transportation is the Way To Go . In
this text, Public Transportation is the Way To Go the author uses a lot of great and important
points. Three supporting details are, one he talks about fuel emissions and protecting from the
effects of them. He also talks about the government spending on oil from foreign countries. It
would also save time by reducing traffic. These three things were shown clearly throughout the
entire article, Public Transportation is the Way to Go ,and support his claim very well. One way
the author supports his claim is one how he talks about saving fuel emissions. In the text Public

The Dying Industry of Brick Production in Norway
A condensed history about the production of Tegle stein in Norway. From the first introduction of
fired clay bricks by monks in the early twelfth century. To what affects the Black Death had on
production and innovation leading into the 17th century. The 1850 s became the golden time for
brick production in Norwaywith new innovations and technics brought in from Germany. As with
all golden times there always is a down turn. The end of the Second World War signaled the start
of this down turn, with a slow attrition of the brickworks one by one over 90% were closed by
1970. The competition of cement, wood and other building products gave way to only one factory
surviving and producing bricks and specialty products of Tegle in Norway today.
Introduction
Norwegian brick manufacturing and related history should pay homage to the thousands of years
of brick building and production from China to the Middle East, eventually these technics arrived
and spread throughout Europe.
Some of the oldest known Tegleproduction brick production was found in I Tell Aswad, Syria
where archeologists found brick rubble from around 7500 B.C, and in Jericho, north of the Dead
Sea where foundations and ruins of a house from around the same time made of fired clay. Later
the Egyptians and Romans became great users of brick in all aspects of building construction. Yes,
there was use of natural stone especially in purpose built temples, palaces and pyramids, there is an

Food Inseecurity And Marginal Food Security In The United...
By definition, households that are viewed as food secure are able to enjoy a variety of foods
without having any sort of limit, thus proceed to have an active and healthy lifestyle (Gregory
Coleman Jensen, 2017, 5). Those who are food secure have no worries of when their next meal
will be. In contrast, foodinsecurity is the lack of access to the basic necessity of food due to
having low availability of money and other resources. This issue is also affecting many people
today in America. Food insecurity is currently affecting 21% of families in the United States
(Shankar, Rainjade, Deborah, 2017, 135). There are differences between those who are food
secure and those who are food insecure. There are also varying degrees of those who face low
food insecurity and extremely low food insecurity. As previously stated, those who are food secure
have plentiful necessities of food and do not have any stress of their next meal. These people are
characterized by high food security. A recent sample study of 7,802 people conducted this year
back in May, found that 57.7% of adults in America were food secure (Leung, Tester, and Laraia,
2017, 730). Marginal food security is a step lower than those who are labeled with high food
security, but this type is not classified as severity. Marginal food security involves homes who
sometimes reach anxiety about not having enough food in the house, but the quality, variety, and
quantity of their food intake are not lowered (Gregory

The Stages Of Phil Runs
When PHIL runs, it has three distinct stages that the code runs through. First is the initialization
stage. This is where the code that needs to be set up first runs. The next stage is the execution
stage, which is arguably the most important stage. This is where the majority of the code executes.
Any code in the execution stage repeats until the user terminates it. The final stage is the
termination stage, which happens after the user terminates the execution stage. This is where all
tasks stop and any code which needs to complete, can do so safely. Tasks in PHIL are pieces of
code that will execute repeatedly. Tasks can be anything from the satellite propagation to the
sensors. The Lua script handles the scheduling, initializing, execution, and termination of these
tasks. Each task runs according to how the Lua script has it scheduled and the code will continue
to run until the user gives the command to terminate the task. Figure 2 shows the architecture of
PHIL. This portion of the reboot focuses on the simulation side and not the flight software side. As
these tasks run, they may have data that other tasks require to successfully run. A way of handling
this transfer of data from one task to another is to adopt a Publish and Subscribe System. This
system allows for the transferring of variables without getting in the way of the scheduler and
makes sure that all tasks receive the same data for that given moment of time. For example: The
satellite propagation publishes

Plaintiffs allegation that they suffered a constructive eviction is also legally deficient. Although
a tenant is justified in abandoning the premises if a landlord s breach renders the premises
uninhabitable, a tenant waives the landlord s breach if she does not vacate the premises within a
reasonable time. Shaker Associates v. Medical Technologies Group, Ltd., 315 Ill. App. 3d 126,
135 (1st Dist. 2000). Various factors are considered when determining whether the length of time
before vacation is reasonable, such as promises by the landlord to repair and time required to find
a new location. Id. While the question of what constitutes a reasonable time for vacation is usually
a question of fact, it may become a question of law. Chicago... Show more content on

Despite these opportunities, Plaintiffs still have not filed a complaint that complies with section 2
603 of the Code, and therefore, this Court should strike their complaint with prejudice. Further,
Plaintiffs have not alleged sufficient facts to sustain an anticipatory repudiation of a contract claim,

breach of contract causes of action because, by their own admission, they failed to perform their

Iran And Iran On Iran
Essay
How does Iran continue to resist US sanctions?
This paper will seek to identify three key aspects of US sanctions imposed on Iran. First the paper
will briefly introduce the reasons as to why US and Iran relations have worsened since the 1979
Islamic Revolution. Secondly, this paper shall outline some of the key sanctions imposed on Iran
which have influenced Irans s behaviour. After sanctions are reviewed, the paper will then
summarise the impact of sanctions on Iran. Last but not the least and most importantly, the paper
will elaborate how Iran is resisting stringent US sanctions. This paper will argue that despite
punitive measures adopted by the US, Iran has found alternative mechanisms to fight them and has

This coup was a crucial turning point in US Iran relations. Sixty years on, the coup continues to
loom large in Iran s national psyche and remains a thorn in the country s relations with the West.
(Bezhan, 2013)
Iran s nuclear programme has in recent years worsened US Iran relations. The United States
accuses Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons (Bahgat , 2009). Other reasons for mistrust
include USA s support for Iraq during the Iran Iraq War in the 1980 s. Specifically, Iran continues
to resent the US supplying Iraq with the chemical weapons it used during the war. Adding fuel to
the fire, in 1988, US guided missile Cruiser the USS Vincennes on station in the Persian Gulf
mistakenly shot down Iranian Airlines flight 655 killing 290. (Milinski, n.d.)
In recent times a critical point of conflict is the US sanctions imposed on Iran. The key recent
financial sanctions in place against Iran include: the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability,
and Divestment Act of 2010 (CISADA); the USA PATRIOT Act money laundering designation of
2011; the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (NDAA); the Iran Threat Reduction and
Syria Human Rights Act of 2012 (ITRA); and the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013

My Thoughts On The Teacher s Voice
Sitting in class my stomach was twisting inside me, the teacher s voice was a dull buzz,
background noise to my thoughts. Anxiety rose like bile in my throat and made it hard to
breathe. I couldn t stop thinking about it, i was finally going to tell someone. The thought of
telling made my stomach nearly combust, but i had been keeping this in for far too long. The
air was so hot and damp in the classroom, it only made my anxiety worse and no matter how hard
i tried i couldn t focus on the lecture, all i could hope was that the teacher didn t pick up on how
i haven t been listening since the second the class started. It was only second period and i felt like

conversations about everything that happened that day. We told each other pretty much everything,
which is why i decided he should be the first to know. It was a 20 to 30 minute walk from the
school to his house but it was never a dull one. Halfway there my legs would always begin to ache,
and i d like to pretend i was so in shape for occasionally walking to his house. Cody would always
have to slow down or come back to get me every five minutes or so because me being not even 5
feet tall it was hard to keep up with cody, who was almost six feet tall. Halfway to his house
conversation would always fade because we grew tired of walking, so instead of talk we would
sing. Being best friends, any song one of us knew word for word, the other would know too. We
sang the entire way to his house, and and i could feel my anxiety lifting like a heavy wet blanket
off my shoulders. Cody s house was across the street from the river, so hearing the rush of water
told me we were close. Getting closer to the house i felt my anxiety begin to creep back, i was
actually going to do this. There really was no turning back, once we got into that house i would

The Shawshank Redemption Essay
The Shawshank Redemption is a prison movie that is based on a book by Stephen King and
directed by Frank Darabont. The movie is not the average bloody horror movie; instead, it takes
you to a place where your worst nightmares come alive. The tremendous performance by Morgan
Freeman and other actors has truly brought this film to life. The emotions characters portrayed were
so real that every one could feel compassion toward them. The Shawshank Redemption, a
contribution to the working man, illustrates the dark side of the prison and the power of hope
within that helps a prisoner to survive.

The setting is dark and foreboding and creates the atmosphere of the last place one would ever
want to spend their life. The convicts have to tolerate other prisoners and guards who are brutal and
ruthless ( Morgan Freeman Stars 58). The Shawshank prison is a hell full of sinners (Alleva 16).
To the prisoners, prison is like a whole different world. After learning to deal with imprisonment,
the prisoners then have a hard time dealing with the outside world. Another horror about prison
life is the psychological disorder of being behind bars for so long prevents prisoners from being
able to survive in the real world ( Morgan Freeman Stars 58). One of the characters, played by
James Whitmore, commits suicide because it is difficult for him to adjust to the outside world.
Red, another prisoner, does the same thing when he is on parole (Alleva 16). Red states that in
[prison] he s an important man where outside he is nothing but a con [who] probably couldn t
get a library card if he tried (qtd in Armstrong 81). Before Red and James hang themselves, they
do something with the knife in their hands. To keep the suspense alive, Darabont does not reveal
their actions until after the suicides take place. The shot of the scene endorses one of Andy s
ideologies: get busy living or get busy dying (qtd in Avella 18). The use of camera, angle shots,
and knowing when to use them appropriately are the aspects that keep the viewers on their tiptoes.

Isle Of Brazil Research Paper
Many, many years ago, the Isle of Brasil, or Brasil, was an island off of the coast of Ireland. No
one had visited there. The island was mapped on many nautical charts, and somehow no one
could find Brasil. Perhaps the reason why is because a dense fog seems to always cover the
island. This intrigued two of England s most prized explorers in 1899. The first explorer s name
was Harrison Abbot, born in April of 1871. He was a tall, thin man with dark brown hair. He had
blue eyes that glistened in the sunlight. The second explore was Orville Andrews, born in March
of 1870. He was a bit shorter than Harrison and a bit wider too. He had blond hair and hazel eyes.
His upper lip sported a handlebar mustache. The two had been the best of friends... Show more

Little boys and girls were running around laughing and playing. The ladies held pastel purple,

the umbrellas. They were almost like a piece of art having many fine details. The gentlemen
wore tuxedos filled with ritz and glamour. Some chose to wear bow ties while others wore
ascots. The line for the boardwalk s grand and luxurious theater grew longer by the minute. It
was playing The Sign of The Cross directed by French director Georges MГ©liГЁs. Harrison and
Orville were in the que waiting to see the film. While waiting, they noticed that a piece of paper
had been left stuck in between the wooden boards of the boardwalk. Harrison wiggled it just a
little until it was freed. The corners tore a little. He noticed that it was a nautical chart. When he
saw that it was from 1843 and outdated, he simply put it in his pocket and thought about
throwing it away after they had seen the film, but Orville noticed that the chart had a mysterious
and suspicious looking landform on it. He asked Harrison if he could take a look at the it. The
map showed that an island was located off of the coast of Ireland. The rounded letters printed
over the island read, Brasil. The two had not heard of nor seen this island before. They were
familiar with Brasil Rock which lay in a similar location on more recent charts. So they decided
to leave the boardwalk and head to the library where the figured they could find more
information on Brasil and its history. It was late by the time they had made it to the library. It
was dark inside. The exquisite, dark, detailed woodwork reflected the glow of beautiful golden
sconces and desk lamps which seemed to be the only light source. While researching, Harrison and
Orville discovered that the legend claims that the island is only visible one day every seven

Can Money Buy Happiness Essay
Can money buy everything, including money?
Some people think that money can buy everything. Does that include happiness? Can money really
buy happiness? Different people have different opinion about this as well as the definition of
happiness that varies through people. According to the dictionary, happinessis the state of being
happy. Happiness is not just a state of mind but it is a state of emotion. Martin Seligman, the father
of positive psychology, theorises that while 60% of happiness is determined by our genetics and
environments, the remaining 40 % is up to us. Psychologists have researched that when you are
happy, certain hormones are release. The feelings we experience are nothing more than chemical
reactions taking place in our body. So do you think money can be used to make this reaction

Peline De Nascimento Research Paper
Edson Arantes de Nascimento (otherwise known as Pele), was born into a family in poverty in
Brazil on September 23, 1940. The reason I chose to do Pele is because he is a great inspiration
because of everything he has done in his life. His father was a soccer player. Pele s first soccer ball
was a sock full rags and he and his friends would boot it around all day. He dropped out of school in
the 4th grade because the school master had caught him playing soccer during the school day. Pele
was first discovered at age 11 by one of the top brazilian players (Weldemar de Brito) who brought
him into a local youth club team and Pele rapidly became the star of the team. The first pro team
he ever played for was Santos in 1956. On that team scored his first ever professional goal. That
first pro goal was on September 7, 1956. Pele led the league he was in with Santos for most goals
for his first full season. At age 17 he started playing for the Brazil national team in 1957. Also at

Analysis Of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
Although depression may seem like an endless burden to bear, those suffering from the mental
illness need to hold on to realize that they are not alone, and that depression does end. Through
the use of a range of film techniques employed throughout the final scene of the film, Stephen
Chbosky successfully weaves this idea into the closing sequence of The Perks of Being a
Wallflower. The comedy drama coming of age film reflects on the trials and tribulations of
adolescent life, as we join protagonist Charlie on his journey of development. As Charle is
introduced as a socially awkward wallflower suffering severely from depression, the film
techniques used during the ending scene show how Charlie has found his place in the world with

Dubbed by Sam as the Tunnel Song she loves to listen to while she cruises through the night, the
song Heroes by David Bowie further supports Chbosky s success in establishing a sense of hope
for the viewer. Charlie s non diegetic commentary stating this one moment when you know you

support each other in emphasizing the idea of having those moments where you feel like
nothing else matters, and you can feel like you re a hero, just like how Charlie and his friends
are feeling on top of the world. The lyrics of the diegetic song which state though nothing, will
keep us together/we can steal time, just for one day, reflect on Charlie and Sam s relationship.
They realize that they will not be able to maintain a relationship since Sam lives away from
Charlie to go to college, but despite this, they have learned to enjoy the little time they have
together and make the most of it. Chbosky s use of diegetic music once again perfectly serve its
purpose of creating a sense of hope for the viewer, and illustrating the newfound lessons that the
viewer has learned with Charlie alongside his quest for maturity. He teaches the viewer that

METHODS AND APPROACH
A.Research Objective #1: Determine the Rate and Amount of Copper Release from Treated Wood

fungi (Postia placenta, Serpula lacrymans, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Fibroporia radiculosa) have
different copper removal degrees in ACQ and CCA treated wood. I will test my working hypothesis
by using the experimental approach of measurement of copper release. Fungus growth will be

Realism is the preeminent theory of International Relations, as it provides the best explanation for
what is going on today in the modern world in case of conflicts and political disputes. Realism can
be broken down in three elements: Survival, Statism and Self Help. Survival is fundamentally the

Symbolism In The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara Kingsolver
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver People face difficult and life altering challenges
every day. Some of the awful times are more complex and affect more people than other types
can. A challenge can start out as a family trying to help the less fortunate, but then take a turn for
the worse. Even if it wasn t a specific person s fault, he or she still feels guilty. In The Poisonwood
Bibleby Barbara Kingsolver, the author uses symbolism and allusions to prove the theme everyone
has and deals with guiltdifferently. For starters, Barbara Kingsolver uses a lot of symbolism,
especially rain. According to Thomas C. Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor rain
can be restorative and cleansing (Foster 83). In more simpler terms, rain symbolizes rebirth and
happiness. However in this story, the rain symbolizes hard times and guilt. The family s server,
Nelson, told Adah it was our offenses that brought on this rainy season (Kingsolver 172). If rain, in
The Poisonwood Bible meant rebirth and cleansing, the theme of guilt would not be as pronounced.
The Price Family is very religious and has a strong belief in God. Therefore, it only makes sense to
have allusions throughout the story. The allusions deliver the theme by helping the readers see
what happens when someone is guilty. For instance, if the girls do something they are not supposed
to do the father, Nathan, would tell the girls you have The Verse (Kingsolver 59). The Verse is a
punishment to make

What Is Improper Use Of Force
Police officers are allowed to use force as part of their day to day duties. Officers must use their
judgment to determine when the use of force is warranted. In order for officers to make the
appropriate decision, proper training must take place. In order to perform at their best, they must
become familiarized with federal and state court cases, state law, and departmental policies
directing such actions (Lim Lee, 2015). According to Lim Lee (2015) failure to fully understand
and simply just following the regulations can lead to community resistance, loss of public
confidence in law enforcement, and legal liabilities. Improper use of force is one of the few
behaviors that reduce community confidence in policeofficers (Lim Lee, 2015).

Why Pro Choice Is The Right Choice

National Issues Paper
Why Pro Choice is the Right Choice Abortion is a hot topic in United States politics as of late, and
rightly so. Though religion, costs, maternal psychological damage, and societal morality are often
cited as reasons to oppose abortion, a woman s right to make her own decisions should always
prevail. Abortion should be nationally legalized during the first trimester of pregnancy because Roe
V. Wadehas declared abortion a fundamental right to women, fetuses are incapable of feeling pain
during the period when most abortions take place, women should be given the right to choose what
happens with their body, and access to legal abortions decreases the ... Show more content on

The code went on to say that even the attempt of an abortion, successful or otherwise, should be
punished in the same sense. The only stipulation was that an abortion may be performed if done
with medical advice to save the life of the mother. Roe believed that these statutes were
unconstitutionally vague, and challenged them in the Supreme Court on grounds of
Constitutionality.
Using the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth amendments, Roe set out to get the laws
struck down. The most important of her arguments were in the fourteenth and ninth amendments,
where she argued that all people had a right to privacy under the fourteenth amendment s concept
of personal liberty and restrictions on state action, and the ninth amendment s concept of reserved
rights to the people. The court ruled in Roe s favor, voiding Texas s abortion laws. The official
decision of the court, written by Justice Harry Blackmun, cites reasons of vagueness, and using
precedent set by 1891 case Union Pacific R. Co. v. Botsford, where the supreme court upheld and
recognized a right of personal privacy. In justifying this decision, Blackmun stated that, In varying
contexts, the Court or individual Justices have, indeed, found at least the roots of that right in the

The main argument is about the problem posed for the modern viewer by the eroticized body of

Content Validity And Its Effects On The Research Instrument

research from experts in this field of study, the statements should have at least acceptable level of
content validity.

(incremental fit index 0.9, goodness of fit index 0.9), low root mean square residuals and high

individual item and composite reliabilities.
Before implementing model fit evaluation, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) is adopted in
this research because according to Chiou in Wu et al. (2011), if the number of sample did not

variances and also reached level of highly statistically significance. Thus, passing the preliminary
fit criteria. Meanwhile on the overall model fit criteria, as can be seen in table , the proposed
model is achieving almost all of the ideal results. Only two indicators that the model didn t

The Characteristic Of Decisions In Steinbeck s Of Mice And...
The ability to make decisions and choices is a defining characteristic of humanity. Decisions
define us, and they reveal to the world our values, motivations, and desires. As renowned author
J.K Rowling once wrote, It is our choices... that show what we truly are (Rowling 333). This
concept is one that can be readily observed in history, literature, and society and it is especially
prevalent in Steinbeck s novella, Of Mice and Men. The decisions that individuals make in both
fiction and the real world, can reveal characteristics of themselves that even they do not know. In
Of Mice and Men, the first defining decision that reveals a character s personality is Candy s
decision to forego shooting his dog. In the story, Candy is forced to make a difficult choice: to
either kill his old, seemingly useless dog himself, or to let someone else do it. Ultimately, Candy
succumbs to pressure from his fellow ranchers and he reluctantly lets someone else kill his
beloved companion. When this impetuous decision is dissected, Candy s demeanor, values, and
varying characteristics are revealed. Initially, when the idea of killing Candy s dog is brought up
by Carlson, Candy immediately dismisses it saying, You ain t got no gun... [m]aybe tomorra
(Steinbeck 47). However, when this idea is suggested just one more time, Candy agrees. This entire
interaction shows that Candy is extremely compliant and acquiescent in his demeanor. He shies

literature in America Essay
When I think of America, I think of freedom. We live in a country where we can do what we
choose. We can express our opinions and live our own lives. Individuals can form their own
individual beliefs and they can do what they want and pursue what they wish. They can play
basketball, go to school, get a job, have a family, buy a house, or go to church. We are free. We
have opportunity to be whatever we want to make ourselves. When you ask, what is an American?
I find it no different to ask, what is freedom? America and freedom are intertwined and this
relationship is evident in American literature.

In Self Reliance, Emerson explains that our freedom to choose and our ability to think what we
want to think define what America is. I believe it is characteristic of Americans to strive for what
they think is right. In Poe s the House of Usher, Usher decided to bury his sister alive. I think
this story can relate to us today. Many people would say that America is known for persevering
through rough times. I d say the last few years have been a rough time for America, from 9/11 to
now the war in Iraq. Sometimes situations may seem unbeatable, like being trapped in a coffin,
but if you fight hard enough, like we are against the terrorists and in Iraq, you can overcome
anything. American s can overcome anything. Usher s sister was buried alive and finally broke
from the coffin after a week of struggle. Also, many of the authors we have studied describe nature
in riveting detail. To them and to me, our beautiful nature represents something more then just
what you see with your eye it represents America s freedom. In Emerson s Nature, Thorpe s The
Big Bear of Arkansas, Twain s Huckleberry Finn, Bryant s Thanatopsis, and Edwards Shadows of
Divine Things, we see an apparent love and lust of nature by the authors. The great aspects of nature
represent the great aspects of America freedom. The mountains and trees scatter in nature in pure
harmony just like the American people live freely in America. The authors had a fascination

Function and Structure of Hemoglobin and Myoglobin Essay
Myoglobin consist of single polypeptide chain that made up of 153 amino acid and ahs a size of
18 kDa. Its three dimensional structure was first determined by X ray crystallography by John
Kendrew in 1957. Myoglobin is a typical globular protein in that it is a highly folded compact
structure with most of the hydrophobic amino acidresidues buried in the interior and many of the
polar residues on the surface. X ray crystallography revealed that the single polypeptide chain of
myoglobin consist of entirely of eight (labelled A H) alpha helical. Within a hydrophobic crevice
formed by the folding polypeptide chain is the heme prosthetic group. This nonopolypepetide unit is

One of these is to a histidine residue which lies eight residues along helix F of hemoglobin, the
proximal hitidine (His F8). The sixth bond is to one of the oxygen atoms in a molecule of oxygen.
Near to where the oxygen binds to the heme group is another histidine residue, the distal histidine
(His E7). This serves two very important functions. First, preventing neightboring hemoglobin
molecules coming into contact with one another and oxidizing to the Fe3+ state, cause no longer
bind to oxygen. Sencond, lowering the affinity of the heme for CO by preventing carbon monoxide
binding with the most favourable configuration to the Fe2+. This is important because the protein
can no longer bind oxygen once CO has bound irreversibly to the heme,. Thus, although the oxygen
binding site in hemoglobin and myglobin is only a small part of the whole protein, the polypeptide
chain modulates the function of the heme prosthetic group.
Hemoglobin can bind four molecules of oxygen due to its four heme groups, whereas myoglobin
can only bind to one oxygen. The kinetics of oxygen binding of hemoglobin and myoglobin are
quite different. Myoglogin exhibit a hyperbolic oxygen binding curve and hemoglobin exhibit a
sigmoidial oxygen binding curve. The sigmodial curve suggest the the cooperative exist in the
hemolglobing oxygen bind mechanism. The initial binding of an oxygen molecule to a hemoglobin

Whale Rider Analysis Essay
Whale Rider is an expressive, cultural drama film by the award winning director Nikola Jean
Niki Caro, that explores the ideas of love, rejection, tradition and gender roles. It s a story about a
young Maori girl, Paikea Apirana that s born into the chief line along with a twin brother. With her
twin brother dying moments after birth, only Paikea was left to fulfil the role of heir, though Koro,
the current chief and Pai s grandpa refuses as does their culture and religion. Throughout the film
the director utilises a variety of techniques including costuming, symbolism and characterisation to
portray Pai s strength in leadershipand personality over the malecharacters in the film.
Throughout the film the director uses symbolism and costuming to show Pai s strengths and
leadership qualities. A reoccurring example of this is, in many of scenes in which Pai is leading,
developing and/or challenging someone she is wearing the colour red. She wears a red t shirt
when she retrieves the whale tooth, when she defeats hemi with the taiha, when she leads the
traditional songs, and also when she beats the school bus on her bike. This is a very subtle use of
symbolism that the director has implemented, that many casual viewers wouldn t pick up on, but it
is a great use of film techniques as not only does it display and symbolise her strength, leadership
and overall ability, it depicts a part of her personality, that presents itself throughout the movie. Caro

High Stakes Testing Pros And Cons

The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath
In the 1963 novel, The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath depicts the mental breakdown of a young woman,
Esther Greenwood, as a result of the pressures of her environment. Esther grows depressed
throughout the novel and goes crazy due the many conflicting choices she is faced with. In
Esther s 1950s society, she is expected to marry and have children. Yet, she is confronted with
her many wants that conflict with this picture of ideal femininity. As Jay Cee says, Esther wants
to be everything (83), and this is precisely where her dilemma lies. Essentially, Esther s
breakdown can be attributed to her fear of making a choice. This fear is communicated when
Esther states I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the
tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked (62). Esther is
torn between the want for many different futures. The branches suggest that her choices are
mutually exclusive, and she is only able to take one path. All the figs are fat purple,
communicating that all the options are equally fruitful, desirable, and attractive, making Esther s
decision extremely difficult. She describes an array of paths including motherhood and careers,
none of which she is able chose from. She states she, wanted each and every one of them, but
choosing one meant loosing all the rest (63). Unable to make a decision she starves to death (63),
and allows the futures to die. She says, the figs began to

The Novel The Spirit Level I Came Into Inequality
While reading The Spirit Level I came into conclusion that the inequality in developed countries
is great threat to society as a whole. The major issues that are brought up in the book are the
inequality between the rich and the poor in developed countries but also the comparison
between developing countries. The book dives into several factors that are the effects of the
inequality ranging from obesity, teenage birth, life expectancy etc.... I would discuss in depth
on each of these factors and how they all are key components in society and how they add to the
inequality in developed countries. One of the first factors the book brings up is the issue of
trust and how it is a main factor in society, trust is what keeps us from not turning on each other
and seeing others as cooperative rather than competitive. According to the book trust has fallen
from a high 60 percent from 1960 to a low of less than 40 percent in 2004 , this facts gives
insight into the society we are living in now. When I read this, I could only think of the mindset
many people have now, job security is tight and that everyone is seen as competition. I for one
living in America I always have a sense that everyone wants to be on top, and they are willing to
do everything to get the job or position, instead of trying to change the way of selfishness, we are
adding to it, especially with social media. Social media has it pros but it has very damaging cons,

of the distinctive character and conduct on an individual and on the entire group (Moreno, 1953).
I am sure we have all had experiences during our life, where we were required to work as a
group, or be a part of a group. I am sure we can all share good experiences, as well as horror
stories. I have hired on with different companies over the years, and I could tell early on whether
the team I am assigned to would be a positive experience or negative experience. There are
indicators that stand out clearly. The first thing I usually notice is whether the team is productive,
is there trust amongst the team members, are team member held responsible for their jobs/projects,
and is the team striving for a shared goal.
When a team has negative group dynamics the shared goal is not reached and progress is not made.
The team is not working at the optimum level that a company requires to remain successful and
competitive. Kurt Lewin and other researchers have noted that teams with positive

Individual Differences Among People Are What Defines The...
Individual differences among people are what defines the boundaries of personality. Personality
psychology discusses emotionality with general focuses on its involvement with the emotional
mind and its portrayal in the outside world. According to the literature, emotionality includes a
variety of contexts, almost exclusively referring to the social relationships and maturation of
children and adolescents. Often in the discussions on emotionality, there is a connection to the Big
Five trait, neuroticism. In this account, a comparative approach to both the biological perspective
and the evolutionary perspective will be assessed, as well as an evaluation of the trait evident in
my personal life. Ultimately, the intent of this report is to adequately define the trait and its
relevance to personality psychology, while also mentioning the theoretical and empirical literature
of the development of the trait in individuals. It will also discuss the maturation of the trait within
myself and its connection to the biological and evolutionary perspectives in respect to the views
and applications of the trait currently in use in the field of psychology.
Trait Definition As with many terms in the field of psychology, the operational definition for
emotionality is unclear, yet there are many themes that have expressed a general consensus for the
trait. Some definitions propose a connection of emotionality with arousal. Others have determined
that it is the

Igae Masks Throughout History
This mask depicts Idia, the mother of the 16th century Beninese leader Esigie. Produced some
time in the sixteenth century, this mask is not the only one of its kind. Composed of iron,
elephant ivory and bronze, the mask was mostly ceremonial (MM). Masks of this nature were
worn either on the hip or around the neck of the Oba, or ruler among Edo peoples (MM). The
precious nature of the materials used in these masks indicates their royal status. In the late 15th
and early 16th centuries, Portuguese pushed into the Atlantic World in search of laborers and
luxury goods, both of which they found in West Africa (AW 54). Initially these adventurers , as
they were called, would simply kidnap people for labor from the coasts (AW 58). However, after

The Transcription Of The Proclamation Of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 began a growing resentment for basically the same reason they were
upset towards the Indians. In the Transcript of the Proclamation of 1763, it states, And We do
further strictly enjoin and require all Persons whatever, who have either wilfully or
inadvertently seated themselves upon any Lands within the Countries above described, or upon
any other Lands, which, not having been ceded to, or purchased by Us, are still reserved to the
said Indians as aforesaid, forthwith to remove themselves from such Settlements. (King George
III, 1763) If I was a colonist and I read this I would be like, you are not my mom. I get your my
King and have almost complete control over me, but you are not my mom and can t tell me
what to do. , but then I would follow him in fear that I would get in trouble and be killed. King
George III also writes. And We do further declare it to be Our Royal Will and Pleasure, for the
present as aforesaid, to reserve under Our Sovereignty, Protection, and Dominion, for the Use of
the said Indians...We do hereby strictly forbid, on Pain of Our Displeasure, all Our loving
Subjects from making any Purchases or Settlements whatever, or taking Possession of any of the
Lands above reserved, without Our especial Leave and License for that Purpose first obtained.
(King George III,1763) The Colonists were probably mad for the same reason as they were
upset. It s kind of like the King saying, it s our pleasure, like a mom saying to an aunt that their
kid didn t want to come over, to give this land. Also Our loving Subjects is also like a mom
getting on to their kid being like my Wonderful daughter , but in code saying you better behave .
But it wasn t their pleasure and they were just saying that to get on the Indians good side, and the
colonists knew that so they were getting more and more upset, until they eventually rebelled. The
growing resentment between them started when this Proclamation was written and the colonists
got so fed up that they eventually rebelled. The colonists were upset because the British won, but
were being moved out like they had lost. In the Transcript of the Proclamation of 1763, it states,
And We do further strictly enjoin and require all

Analysis Of Cloud Painter By Jane Flanders
The world has several great poets and numerous mind blowing works, each with its own way of
portraying its own message using symbolism to represent lessons of everyday life. Jane Flanders
wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter
and his canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created.
Robert Frost takes on the same idea, but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work
easy to understand while not revealing the actual meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are
just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each
poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Poems are
short stories that have a meaning behind them without revealing them in obvious ways.
Although some are confusing and may use a different style there are a few that present the same
message even if they are written by a different poet. Cloud Painter written by Jane Flanders uses
the clouds and other subjects of nature. Such as trees and the hills. to help the reader picture the
true meaning behind her poem. Robert Frost s poem by the name of Nothing Gold Can Stay
also takes the nature route to convey the point of his poems words and their Each has a unique
way of creating an idea that most can relate to emotionally and physically. Flanders sees the
world as a simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first, as you know, the sky is
incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches a rock (already he
works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a haywain
trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The
message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged
it still stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come
which explains the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen
should be enough. Horizons are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are
often taken for granted and used for the wrong

Art Therapy Informative Essay
Art therapy started in America and Europe in the 1940 s and has spread throughout the world and
now people in all countries are using art therapy. By the 20th century, art therapy was in all
hospitals and mental health facilities after discovering that art therapy really helps people s
emotions. Researchers found that art therapyis important to people because nowadays people don
t want to take medication to be treated instead, they are looking for an alternative therapy. It is
also important to people who don t have the ability to communicate because all they have to do
is draw to express how they are feeling.Art therapy can be used when people are having a hard
time focusing or under stress and don t know how to solve their problems. To use art therapy
people don t have to know how to draw to express their feelings, instead they just draw how they
are feeling and art therapist determines their emotions through what they drew. Art therapy causes
kids and teenager s brains to expand and have caused their thinking to be more creative than
others. Kids who feel let down or don t have any type of encouragement use art therapy because it
boosts their self esteem. Art therapy is really important for people because it relieves... Show more

The Lawn At The University Of Virginia And Ix Art Park
Influences of planning theorists are evident in The Lawn at the University of Virginia and IX Art
Park in downtown Charlottesville by examining the sites designs, activities, and users.
Thomas Jefferson designed a university to promote higher education which he called his
Academic Village, and the Lawn was the center of his design. He wanted to create a university
where everybody could not only learn and study, but also live together. Therefore, he designed
pavilions which served as houses and classrooms for teachers and rooms for students that were all
connected to each other. Furthermore, everybody had a view towards a green space called the
Lawn. Jefferson s interest in architecture influenced his design for the Academic Village. The layout
of the Village with the central lawn was inspired by French hospital planning and the surrounding
structures were inspired by Roman architecture. Jefferson aimed to create a place that was
practical, healthy, and educational. Construction began in 1817, and the university opened in
March 1825 with Jefferson s selected faculty and 123 students. Jefferson s Academic Village
expanded after his death into a larger campus, now known as the University of Virginia. Students
and faculty continue to live in rooms around the Lawn and classes are still taught in the pavilions.
Brian Wimer, a local filmmaker, proposed the idea of transforming an industrial site of a closed

Persuasive Speech About Drug Use
People are beginning to wake up and realize that drug prohibition is an utter failure a waste of time
and resources, at the very least. Yet, not everyone is quite convinced, thanks to decades of
propoganda, hear say, and misinformation. From an outsider s perspective, it s quite easy to
empathize with people that genuinely think drugs are a gateway to darkness and despair, with the
statistics of violence and criminal activity, potential dangers that come with druguse, and social
stigmas, that run amok in society. However, as we continue to evolve and advance our
technological capabilities, expand our scientific knowledge, and grow closer towards collectively
understanding the strange phenomena we call life , we also learn more about the past. We have
more to work with when formulating hypotheses and theories about our species origins, what our
ancestors were like, how far we ve evolved, etc. Perhaps one of the more shocking bits of... Show

The earliest, most credible account of drug use by humans dates back between 50,000 60,000 B.C.,
in which there is a notion that Neanderthals of the time used the psychoactive stimulant, Ephedra,
as evidenced by a burial site in Iraq, where pollen remains of the herbal drug were found. There is
contradictory evidence which states the remains of the ephedra may have come from rodents in the
area, who are known to burrow and store seeds and flowers in their burrows, making it impossible to
come to a concrete conclusion on whether these people did use the drug. Nevertheless, prospectors
believe that if these people actually took use of the drug, that it may have been for medicinal,
spiritual, and/or entheogenic ritualistic purposes, as the effects of the ephedra have euphoric,
amphetaminic, and sympathomimetic (mimics the effects of neurotransmitter substances, such as
adrenaline and dopemine)

The Jim Crow Rights
The shadow becomes known. Big groups, small groups, militants, and peacemakers, strong, brave,
marches and riots, boycotts... Leaders... Fighters... And Strong willed individuals. That s who my
ancestors of yesterday were and that s who I am today. People think that president Lincoln,
Congress, and the Emancipation Proclamation freed all slaves, but it was Slaves who freed
themselves from slavery. African Americans always fought for their freedom, nobody gave it to us
and we will continue to fight until we get what we deserve. The emancipation proclamationdid
nothing for slavery but freed slaves that were already free for fighting alongside with the north.
Lincolns proclamation, freed not a single slave who was not already entitled to freedom under
legislation passed by congress the previous year. Without protest, African American
Kings and
Queens wouldn t have the very little rights we have today. Back then blacks were looked at as a
piece of property not even entitled to the pot they pissed in, but as times changed we started to gain
and maintain. Nearly 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, African Americans in
Southern states still inhabited a starkly unequal world of disenfranchisement, segregation, and
various forms of oppression, including race inspired violence. Jim Crow laws represented a formal,
codified system of racial apartheid that dominated the American South for three quarters of a
century beginning in the 1890s. The laws affected almost every

Rene Descartes Meditations
1. About Rene Descartes Meditations:
a) What is the function of the doubt in Descartes Meditations? What are the different stages of
doubt in the Meditations? What does Descartes find to be ultimately indubitable to constitute the
foundation of his new philosophy?
Descartes function of doubt in Meditations is basically to overthrow skepticism on its own
ground, to begin by doubting everything you know and everything you think you know. The
first stage of doubt is the argument of physical misconception, our senses betray us some of the
time but possible that it betrays us all of the time. The second stage is knowing if one is
dreaming or not, some dreams are so real that its hard to tell if they are indeed real and anything
that you see while you are awake can be a dream. The third stage is the evil demon, believing that
an evil demon who is powerful enough to deceive you and who is as strong as god but isn t good.
He concludes that all clear and distinct ideas are true and he knows that he exists and that his
essential characteristic is thinking, and by that he means any form of ... Show more content on

What is Descartes rationale? Is Descartes rationale logical?
No, there is and can be no such thing as evidence of the existence of god. God is not something
anyone can attest or validate, with that being said he is something one can chose to believe in or
not. We imperfect and finite beings visualize the opportunity to be perfect. Descartes wants to
prove the idea of god in his mind as an innate idea and ends up proving it using the ontological
argument. I don t believe it s logical; Descartes finishes with the idea that one must require truth in
their cause as in their effect.

Spread of Buddhism in China Essay
It is believed that Buddhism spread to China through the Silk Road. When the Silk Road opened in
the 2nd century BC, missionaries and pilgrims spread Buddhism to China. Chang Ch ien was
recorded to first bring Buddhism to China when he heard about India and Buddhist beliefs on his
way back to China. In about the 1st century BC, a Buddhist community is said to have been living
in China. But the most well known story of the spreading of Buddhism is when Han emperor,
Mingdi, had a dream about Buddha in 68 CE and sent Cai Yin, his official to learn more about it.
Meanwhile, Mingdi learned from his ministers that he had seen Buddha, the God of the West in his
dream. After 3 years Cai Yin came back to china with Buddhist teachings and... Show more content

Starting in 468 BCE during the Zhou dynasty, the Grand Canal took about 6 million peasants about
a millennium to build. The construction of this canal finally finished in 610 CE under Emperor
Yangdi of the Sui dynasty. Changing China s staple from millet and wheat to rice was the main
reason of the building of the canal, but it also helped Chinese economy by connecting the more
productive southern China to the capitals in northern china. It increased interdependence between
the north and the south. One section of the Grand Canal was also intended to supply Chinese
armies which led to better defense and administration in China. Also, in building the canal, officials
were required to work together, so the Grand Canal brought better authority and unity to political
officials. The downside of this canal, though, was the number of peasants killed in constructing it.
Over half of the 6 million peasants employed to build the canal died in building it, which was a
reason the Sui dynasty fell. The great Grand Canal set the foundation for the great Tang dynasty.
Empress Wu Zetian, the only woman to rule China, ruled during the Tang dynasty, but exerted
cruel and malicious methods to gain power. She was born with the name Wu Zhao into a wealthy
family and learned to write, read, and play music. Because of her beauty and intelligence, Wu

horrible journey and they would also possibly face death. Or stay and accept the new culture.
They had to let go of their long and important history. But as hard as they tried when President
Jackson became president a few years later, the attitude towards Native Americans had changed
completely. Jackson was not friendly with the Native American tribes (in the south), and soon they
were pressured to leave by political figures, land speculators (people

  • 3. The Dying Industry of Brick Production in Norway A condensed history about the production of Tegle stein in Norway. From the first introduction of fired clay bricks by monks in the early twelfth century. To what affects the Black Death had on production and innovation leading into the 17th century. The 1850 s became the golden time for brick production in Norwaywith new innovations and technics brought in from Germany. As with all golden times there always is a down turn. The end of the Second World War signaled the start of this down turn, with a slow attrition of the brickworks one by one over 90% were closed by 1970. The competition of cement, wood and other building products gave way to only one factory surviving and producing bricks and specialty products of Tegle in Norway today. Introduction Norwegian brick manufacturing and related history should pay homage to the thousands of years of brick building and production from China to the Middle East, eventually these technics arrived and spread throughout Europe. Some of the oldest known Tegleproduction brick production was found in I Tell Aswad, Syria where archeologists found brick rubble from around 7500 B.C, and in Jericho, north of the Dead Sea where foundations and ruins of a house from around the same time made of fired clay. Later the Egyptians and Romans became great users of brick in all aspects of building construction. Yes, there was use of natural stone especially in purpose built temples, palaces and pyramids, there is an Egyptian hieroglyph ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Food Inseecurity And Marginal Food Security In The United... By definition, households that are viewed as food secure are able to enjoy a variety of foods without having any sort of limit, thus proceed to have an active and healthy lifestyle (Gregory Coleman Jensen, 2017, 5). Those who are food secure have no worries of when their next meal will be. In contrast, foodinsecurity is the lack of access to the basic necessity of food due to having low availability of money and other resources. This issue is also affecting many people today in America. Food insecurity is currently affecting 21% of families in the United States (Shankar, Rainjade, Deborah, 2017, 135). There are differences between those who are food secure and those who are food insecure. There are also varying degrees of those who face low food insecurity and extremely low food insecurity. As previously stated, those who are food secure have plentiful necessities of food and do not have any stress of their next meal. These people are characterized by high food security. A recent sample study of 7,802 people conducted this year back in May, found that 57.7% of adults in America were food secure (Leung, Tester, and Laraia, 2017, 730). Marginal food security is a step lower than those who are labeled with high food security, but this type is not classified as severity. Marginal food security involves homes who sometimes reach anxiety about not having enough food in the house, but the quality, variety, and quantity of their food intake are not lowered (Gregory ... • 5. The Stages Of Phil Runs When PHIL runs, it has three distinct stages that the code runs through. First is the initialization stage. This is where the code that needs to be set up first runs. The next stage is the execution stage, which is arguably the most important stage. This is where the majority of the code executes. Any code in the execution stage repeats until the user terminates it. The final stage is the termination stage, which happens after the user terminates the execution stage. This is where all tasks stop and any code which needs to complete, can do so safely. Tasks in PHIL are pieces of code that will execute repeatedly. Tasks can be anything from the satellite propagation to the sensors. The Lua script handles the scheduling, initializing, execution, and termination of these tasks. Each task runs according to how the Lua script has it scheduled and the code will continue to run until the user gives the command to terminate the task. Figure 2 shows the architecture of PHIL. This portion of the reboot focuses on the simulation side and not the flight software side. As these tasks run, they may have data that other tasks require to successfully run. A way of handling this transfer of data from one task to another is to adopt a Publish and Subscribe System. This system allows for the transferring of variables without getting in the way of the scheduler and makes sure that all tasks receive the same data for that given moment of time. For example: The satellite propagation publishes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Plaintiff Case Study Plaintiffs allegation that they suffered a constructive eviction is also legally deficient. Although a tenant is justified in abandoning the premises if a landlord s breach renders the premises uninhabitable, a tenant waives the landlord s breach if she does not vacate the premises within a reasonable time. Shaker Associates v. Medical Technologies Group, Ltd., 315 Ill. App. 3d 126, 135 (1st Dist. 2000). Various factors are considered when determining whether the length of time before vacation is reasonable, such as promises by the landlord to repair and time required to find a new location. Id. While the question of what constitutes a reasonable time for vacation is usually a question of fact, it may become a question of law. Chicago... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite these opportunities, Plaintiffs still have not filed a complaint that complies with section 2 603 of the Code, and therefore, this Court should strike their complaint with prejudice. Further, Plaintiffs have not alleged sufficient facts to sustain an anticipatory repudiation of a contract claim, and have waived any claim based on a constructive eviction. Finally, Plaintiffs cannot maintain their breach of contract causes of action because, by their own admission, they failed to perform their contractual obligations. Therefore, Counts V, VI and VII should be dismissed with prejudice. • 7. Iran And Iran On Iran Essay How does Iran continue to resist US sanctions? This paper will seek to identify three key aspects of US sanctions imposed on Iran. First the paper will briefly introduce the reasons as to why US and Iran relations have worsened since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Secondly, this paper shall outline some of the key sanctions imposed on Iran which have influenced Irans s behaviour. After sanctions are reviewed, the paper will then summarise the impact of sanctions on Iran. Last but not the least and most importantly, the paper will elaborate how Iran is resisting stringent US sanctions. This coup was a crucial turning point in US Iran relations. Sixty years on, the coup continues to loom large in Iran s national psyche and remains a thorn in the country s relations with the West. (Bezhan, 2013) Iran s nuclear programme has in recent years worsened US Iran relations. The United States accuses Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons (Bahgat , 2009). Other reasons for mistrust include USA s support for Iraq during the Iran Iraq War in the 1980 s. Specifically, Iran continues to resent the US supplying Iraq with the chemical weapons it used during the war. Adding fuel to the fire, in 1988, US guided missile Cruiser the USS Vincennes on station in the Persian Gulf mistakenly shot down Iranian Airlines flight 655 killing 290. (Milinski, n.d.) In recent times a critical point of conflict is the US sanctions imposed on Iran. The key recent financial sanctions in place against Iran include: the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act of 2010 (CISADA); the USA PATRIOT Act money laundering designation of 2011; the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (NDAA); the Iran Threat Reduction and Syria Human Rights Act of 2012 (ITRA); and the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 (Carter Farha, 2013, p. 320). The thought of telling made my stomach nearly combust, but i had been keeping this in for far too long. We started on our way to his house, while having one of our never ending conversations about everything that happened that day. We told each other pretty much everything, which is why i decided he should be the first to know. It was a 20 to 30 minute walk from the school to his house but it was never a dull one. Halfway there my legs would always begin to ache, and i d like to pretend i was so in shape for occasionally walking to his house. Cody would always have to slow down or come back to get me every five minutes or so because me being not even 5 feet tall it was hard to keep up with cody, who was almost six feet tall. Halfway to his house conversation would always fade because we grew tired of walking, so instead of talk we would sing. Being best friends, any song one of us knew word for word, the other would know too. We sang the entire way to his house, and and i could feel my anxiety lifting like a heavy wet blanket off my shoulders. • 9. The Shawshank Redemption Essay The Shawshank Redemption is a prison movie that is based on a book by Stephen King and directed by Frank Darabont. The movie is not the average bloody horror movie; instead, it takes you to a place where your worst nightmares come alive. The tremendous performance by Morgan Freeman and other actors has truly brought this film to life. The emotions characters portrayed were so real that every one could feel compassion toward them. The Shawshank Redemption, a contribution to the working man, illustrates the dark side of the prison and the power of hope within that helps a prisoner to survive. The setting is dark and foreboding and creates the atmosphere of the last place one would ever want to spend their life. The convicts have to tolerate other prisoners and guards who are brutal and ruthless ( Morgan Freeman Stars 58). The Shawshank prison is a hell full of sinners (Alleva 16). To the prisoners, prison is like a whole different world. After learning to deal with imprisonment, the prisoners then have a hard time dealing with the outside world. Another horror about prison life is the psychological disorder of being behind bars for so long prevents prisoners from being able to survive in the real world ( Morgan Freeman Stars 58). One of the characters, played by James Whitmore, commits suicide because it is difficult for him to adjust to the outside world. Red, another prisoner, does the same thing when he is on parole (Alleva 16). Red states that in [prison] he s an important man where outside he is nothing but a con [who] probably couldn t get a library card if he tried (qtd in Armstrong 81). Before Red and James hang themselves, they do something with the knife in their hands. To keep the suspense alive, Darabont does not reveal their actions until after the suicides take place. The shot of the scene endorses one of Andy s ideologies: get busy living or get busy dying (qtd in Avella 18). • 10. Isle Of Brazil Research Paper Many, many years ago, the Isle of Brasil, or Brasil, was an island off of the coast of Ireland. No one had visited there. The island was mapped on many nautical charts, and somehow no one could find Brasil. Perhaps the reason why is because a dense fog seems to always cover the island. This intrigued two of England s most prized explorers in 1899. The first explorer s name was Harrison Abbot, born in April of 1871. He was a tall, thin man with dark brown hair. He had blue eyes that glistened in the sunlight. The second explore was Orville Andrews, born in March of 1870. He was a bit shorter than Harrison and a bit wider too. He had blond hair and hazel eyes. His upper lip sported a handlebar mustache. The two had been the best of friends... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some chose to wear bow ties while others wore ascots. The line for the boardwalk s grand and luxurious theater grew longer by the minute. It was playing The Sign of The Cross directed by French director Georges MГ©liГЁs. Harrison and Orville were in the que waiting to see the film. While waiting, they noticed that a piece of paper had been left stuck in between the wooden boards of the boardwalk. Harrison wiggled it just a little until it was freed. The corners tore a little. He noticed that it was a nautical chart. When he saw that it was from 1843 and outdated, he simply put it in his pocket and thought about throwing it away after they had seen the film, but Orville noticed that the chart had a mysterious and suspicious looking landform on it. He asked Harrison if he could take a look at the it. The map showed that an island was located off of the coast of Ireland. The rounded letters printed over the island read, Brasil. The two had not heard of nor seen this island before. They were familiar with Brasil Rock which lay in a similar location on more recent charts. So they decided to leave the boardwalk and head to the library where the figured they could find more information on Brasil and its history. It was late by the time they had made it to the library. It was dark inside. The exquisite, dark, detailed woodwork reflected the glow of beautiful golden sconces and desk lamps which seemed to be the only light source. While researching, Harrison and Orville discovered that the legend claims that the island is only visible one day every seven ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Different people have different opinion about this as well as the definition of happiness that varies through people. According to the dictionary, happinessis the state of being happy. The reason I chose to do Pele is because he is a great inspiration because of everything he has done in his life. His father was a soccer player. Pele s first soccer ball was a sock full rags and he and his friends would boot it around all day. He dropped out of school in the 4th grade because the school master had caught him playing soccer during the school day. Pele was first discovered at age 11 by one of the top brazilian players (Weldemar de Brito) who brought him into a local youth club team and Pele rapidly became the star of the team. The first pro team he ever played for was Santos in 1956. On that team scored his first ever professional goal. That first pro goal was on September 7, 1956. Pele led the league he was in with Santos for most goals for his first full season. At age 17 he started playing for the Brazil national team in 1957. • 15. Analysis Of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Although depression may seem like an endless burden to bear, those suffering from the mental illness need to hold on to realize that they are not alone, and that depression does end. Through the use of a range of film techniques employed throughout the final scene of the film, Stephen Chbosky successfully weaves this idea into the closing sequence of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The comedy drama coming of age film reflects on the trials and tribulations of adolescent life, as we join protagonist Charlie on his journey of development. As Charle is introduced as a socially awkward wallflower suffering severely from depression, the film techniques used during the ending scene show how Charlie has found his place in the world with friends... Copper Release Essay METHODS AND APPROACH A.Research Objective #1: Determine the Rate and Amount of Copper Release from Treated Wood by Fungal Exposure to Four Copper Tolerant Brown Rot Fungi Introduction. In this objective, rate and amount of copper release will be measured while fungus is growing on copper based treatments. The working hypothesis is that the selected four brown rot fungi (Postia placenta, Serpula lacrymans, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Fibroporia radiculosa) have different copper removal degrees in ACQ and CCA treated wood. I will test my working hypothesis by using the experimental approach of measurement of copper release. Some of the awful times are more complex and affect more people than other types can. A challenge can start out as a family trying to help the less fortunate, but then take a turn for the worse. Even if it wasn t a specific person s fault, he or she still feels guilty. In The Poisonwood Bibleby Barbara Kingsolver, the author uses symbolism and allusions to prove the theme everyone has and deals with guiltdifferently. For starters, Barbara Kingsolver uses a lot of symbolism, especially rain. According to Thomas C. Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor rain can be restorative and cleansing (Foster 83). In more simpler terms, rain symbolizes rebirth and happiness. However in this story, the rain symbolizes hard times and guilt. The family s server, Nelson, told Adah it was our offenses that brought on this rainy season (Kingsolver 172). If rain, in The Poisonwood Bible meant rebirth and cleansing, the theme of guilt would not be as pronounced. The Price Family is very religious and has a strong belief in God. Therefore, it only makes sense to have allusions throughout the story. The allusions deliver the theme by helping the readers see what happens when someone is guilty. For instance, if the girls do something they are not supposed to do the father, Nathan, would tell the girls you have The Verse (Kingsolver 59). The Verse is a punishment to make ... Though religion, costs, maternal psychological damage, and societal morality are often cited as reasons to oppose abortion, a woman s right to make her own decisions should always prevail. Abortion should be nationally legalized during the first trimester of pregnancy because Roe V. The only stipulation was that an abortion may be performed if done with medical advice to save the life of the mother. Roe believed that these statutes were unconstitutionally vague, and challenged them in the Supreme Court on grounds of Constitutionality. Using the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth amendments, Roe set out to get the laws struck down. The most important of her arguments were in the fourteenth and ninth amendments, where she argued that all people had a right to privacy under the fourteenth amendment s concept of personal liberty and restrictions on state action, and the ninth amendment s concept of reserved rights to the people. The court ruled in Roe s favor, voiding Texas s abortion laws. The official decision of the court, written by Justice Harry Blackmun, cites reasons of vagueness, and using precedent set by 1891 case Union Pacific R. Co. v. Decisions define us, and they reveal to the world our values, motivations, and desires. As renowned author J.K Rowling once wrote, It is our choices... that show what we truly are (Rowling 333). This concept is one that can be readily observed in history, literature, and society and it is especially prevalent in Steinbeck s novella, Of Mice and Men. The decisions that individuals make in both fiction and the real world, can reveal characteristics of themselves that even they do not know. In Of Mice and Men, the first defining decision that reveals a character s personality is Candy s decision to forego shooting his dog. In the story, Candy is forced to make a difficult choice: to either kill his old, seemingly useless dog himself, or to let someone else do it. Ultimately, Candy succumbs to pressure from his fellow ranchers and he reluctantly lets someone else kill his beloved companion. When this impetuous decision is dissected, Candy s demeanor, values, and varying characteristics are revealed. Myoglobin is a typical globular protein in that it is a highly folded compact structure with most of the hydrophobic amino acidresidues buried in the interior and many of the polar residues on the surface. X ray crystallography revealed that the single polypeptide chain of myoglobin consist of entirely of eight (labelled A H) alpha helical. One of these is to a histidine residue which lies eight residues along helix F of hemoglobin, the proximal hitidine (His F8). The sixth bond is to one of the oxygen atoms in a molecule of oxygen. Near to where the oxygen binds to the heme group is another histidine residue, the distal histidine (His E7). This serves two very important functions. First, preventing neightboring hemoglobin molecules coming into contact with one another and oxidizing to the Fe3+ state, cause no longer bind to oxygen. Sencond, lowering the affinity of the heme for CO by preventing carbon monoxide binding with the most favourable configuration to the Fe2+. This is important because the protein can no longer bind oxygen once CO has bound irreversibly to the heme,. Thus, although the oxygen binding site in hemoglobin and myglobin is only a small part of the whole protein, the polypeptide chain modulates the function of the heme prosthetic group. Hemoglobin can bind four molecules of oxygen due to its four heme groups, whereas myoglobin can only bind to one oxygen. The kinetics of oxygen binding of hemoglobin and myoglobin are quite different. Myoglogin exhibit a hyperbolic oxygen binding curve and hemoglobin exhibit a sigmoidial oxygen binding curve. Before the era had taken place, the Roman Catholics believed in a ranking system for every part of the universe, and believed each part of the universe held a specific position in the world and carried out functions according to its part. ( The Medieval, Catholic Roots of the Elizabethan World. ). Catholics described the hierarchy as , At the very top is God, who created all things. • 37. The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath In the 1963 novel, The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath depicts the mental breakdown of a young woman, Esther Greenwood, as a result of the pressures of her environment. Esther grows depressed throughout the novel and goes crazy due the many conflicting choices she is faced with. In Esther s 1950s society, she is expected to marry and have children. Yet, she is confronted with her many wants that conflict with this picture of ideal femininity. As Jay Cee says, Esther wants to be everything (83), and this is precisely where her dilemma lies. Essentially, Esther s breakdown can be attributed to her fear of making a choice. This fear is communicated when Esther states I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked (62). Esther is torn between the want for many different futures. The branches suggest that her choices are mutually exclusive, and she is only able to take one path. All the figs are fat purple, communicating that all the options are equally fruitful, desirable, and attractive, making Esther s decision extremely difficult. She describes an array of paths including motherhood and careers, none of which she is able chose from. She states she, wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant loosing all the rest (63). Unable to make a decision she starves to death (63), and allows the futures to die. She says, the figs began to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Novel The Spirit Level I Came Into Inequality While reading The Spirit Level I came into conclusion that the inequality in developed countries is great threat to society as a whole. The major issues that are brought up in the book are the inequality between the rich and the poor in developed countries but also the comparison between developing countries. The book dives into several factors that are the effects of the inequality ranging from obesity, teenage birth, life expectancy etc.... I would discuss in depth on each of these factors and how they all are key components in society and how they add to the inequality in developed countries. One of the first factors the book brings up is the issue of trust and how it is a main factor in society, trust is what keeps us from not turning on each other and seeing others as cooperative rather than competitive. According to the book trust has fallen from a high 60 percent from 1960 to a low of less than 40 percent in 2004 , this facts gives insight into the society we are living in now. When I read this, I could only think of the mindset many people have now, job security is tight and that everyone is seen as competition. I for one living in America I always have a sense that everyone wants to be on top, and they are willing to do everything to get the job or position, instead of trying to change the way of selfishness, we are adding to it, especially with social media. • 39. The Discussion For This Week Is Group Dynamics The discussion for this week is Group Dynamics. Webster s dictionary defines group dynamics as the interacting forces within a small human group; also, the sociological study of these forces. A well renown change management expert and social psychologist Kurt Lewin. He created the phrase group dynamics in the mid 1940 s (Moreno,1953) He has written quite a bit about individuals choosing a distinctive characteristics and conduct when placed in a group. He studied the influence of the distinctive character and conduct on an individual and on the entire group (Moreno, 1953). I am sure we have all had experiences during our life, where we were required to work as a group, or be a part of a group. I am sure we can all share good experiences, as well as horror stories. I have hired on with different companies over the years, and I could tell early on whether the team I am assigned to would be a positive experience or negative experience. There are indicators that stand out clearly. The first thing I usually notice is whether the team is productive, is there trust amongst the team members, are team member held responsible for their jobs/projects, and is the team striving for a shared goal. When a team has negative group dynamics the shared goal is not reached and progress is not made. The team is not working at the optimum level that a company requires to remain successful and competitive. Kurt Lewin and other researchers have noted that teams with positive ... Personality psychology discusses emotionality with general focuses on its involvement with the emotional mind and its portrayal in the outside world. According to the literature, emotionality includes a variety of contexts, almost exclusively referring to the social relationships and maturation of children and adolescents. Often in the discussions on emotionality, there is a connection to the Big Five trait, neuroticism. In this account, a comparative approach to both the biological perspective and the evolutionary perspective will be assessed, as well as an evaluation of the trait evident in my personal life. Ultimately, the intent of this report is to adequately define the trait and its relevance to personality psychology, while also mentioning the theoretical and empirical literature of the development of the trait in individuals. It will also discuss the maturation of the trait within myself and its connection to the biological and evolutionary perspectives in respect to the views and applications of the trait currently in use in the field of psychology. Trait Definition As with many terms in the field of psychology, the operational definition for emotionality is unclear, yet there are many themes that have expressed a general consensus for the trait. • 43. Analysis Of Cloud Painter By Jane Flanders The world has several great poets and numerous mind blowing works, each with its own way of portraying its own message using symbolism to represent lessons of everyday life. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on the same idea, but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand while not revealing the actual meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Poems are short stories that have a meaning behind them without revealing them in obvious ways. Although some are confusing and may use a different style there are a few that present the same message even if they are written by a different poet. Cloud Painter written by Jane Flanders uses the clouds and other subjects of nature. Such as trees and the hills. to help the reader picture the true meaning behind her poem. Robert Frost s poem by the name of Nothing Gold Can Stay also takes the nature route to convey the point of his poems words and their Each has a unique way of creating an idea that most can relate to emotionally and physically. Flanders sees the world as a simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first, as you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches a rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a haywain trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough. • 45. The Lawn At The University Of Virginia And Ix Art Park Influences of planning theorists are evident in The Lawn at the University of Virginia and IX Art Park in downtown Charlottesville by examining the sites designs, activities, and users. Thomas Jefferson designed a university to promote higher education which he called his Academic Village, and the Lawn was the center of his design. He wanted to create a university where everybody could not only learn and study, but also live together. Therefore, he designed pavilions which served as houses and classrooms for teachers and rooms for students that were all connected to each other. Furthermore, everybody had a view towards a green space called the Lawn. Jefferson s interest in architecture influenced his design for the Academic Village. The layout of the Village with the central lawn was inspired by French hospital planning and the surrounding structures were inspired by Roman architecture. Jefferson aimed to create a place that was practical, healthy, and educational. Construction began in 1817, and the university opened in March 1825 with Jefferson s selected faculty and 123 students. Jefferson s Academic Village expanded after his death into a larger campus, now known as the University of Virginia.
