2. ENTRY 1
For the first ideas of our film production, I decided on where we
should film. This is in my opinion important, as the location is
vital in terms of establishing the scene, as well as presenting
the overall theme of the film, and can also lead to
foreshadowing specific events.
In my spare time, I conducted vital research, in order to decide the
general characteristics of the main antagonist. In the process, I
researched prime examples of antagonists that clearly meet the
typical codes and conventions of the horror genre, and how our
production could take influence from them. One primary
example of a character I analysed with detail was leather face,
famous for his volatile nature in the horror classic ‘Texas
Chainsaw Massacre’ (1974).
3. ENTRY 2
For the production of our film, template/prototype for the possible
antagonist for the film. Following this, my group and I re-
configured our storyboard which involved deciding on a new,
more understandable, and overall better plot (Creating more
ideas related to the horror genre, as well as including more
specific details about the actual planned occurrences within the
plot). In addition, the updated storyboard is also clearer in the
sense that it notifies which types of camera shots will be used.
4. ENTRY 3
I have decided to produce my own edit of the overall production,
this is mainly due to previous experience in terms of editing
films. Even though my more obvious role within the film
production will be the recording of footage, I also intend for
another primary objective to be revolved around the editing of
the production.
Furthermore, the music, which is a vital non-diegetic sound that
influences the theme and atmosphere of the film heavily, will be
chosen by myself and my colleagues. The music will be chosen
from a royalty-free music website.
5. ENTRY 4
Carrying on with the intention of completing my own edit of the film
production, my group and I took some time to partake in more
recordings for our project. The recording itself lasted a extortionate
amount of time (11:00-18:07) After constant technical difficulties and
confusion in terms of decision making, I decided to record the scene,
being that I am more competent in terms of camera work, with the other
colleagues more adept considering the acting positions.
During the recording session, we used an array of locations, which were
nearby the primary location; a converted office building. These
locations consisted of a car park, a deserted shed, as well as a garden
space, surrounded by stinging nettles among other hideous plants.
The simplistic, yet effective dialogue was generally improvised. The group
as a whole, saw writing a script for the film as difficult, based on the
lack of dialogue included within the production.
6. ENTRY 5
This week sees my group and I resuming with the provisional
editing of our film production. As a result of the large quantity
of footage following the extensive recording which occurred
last term, we are able to configure with a variety of recordings
consisting of different camera angles and shots, as well as the
overall plot of the production. The amount of footage my group
possesses also means that if necessary, we can change the plot
to suit the footage we have. Or if this may turn out to be a
negative consequence, we will have the opportunity to record
again, in the same primary location.
7. ENTRY 6
As my group and I progressed with the reoccurring editing, we stumbled
across the obstacle of having to reconfigure the shots which we
included within the production. As a result of certain scenes not being
recorded to good effect, it was ultimately decided that specific aspects
of the film production would be re-shot.
Unfortunately, I was not able to attend, so the two other members of our
production group took full control of the recording and acting aspects
of the production. A variety of shots were completed, most notably a
reconfiguration of the ‘Knife scene”. This however left me with the
challenging task of editing the production.
8. ENTRY 7
During the Easter Holidays, Jack Francois and I attended an
intervention session in order to complete our respective
film production. After adding a soundtrack (we used
FINAL CUT PRO), and casting titles, we had completed
our film production. The adding touch was including the
title of the film; Bowler, in large red font, in order to add
extra emphasis. I feel as main editor that I made a valid
contribution the production of the film clip.
