Similarities Between Jing Mei Woo And Waverly Jong
In these stories there are people that have different cultures. Two of them come from very similar
cultures, and the other comes from a totally different culture. Jing Mei Woo and Waverly Jong
have similar cultures, while Billy and Mike have a different culture. Woo and Jong both of their
mother are pushing them to be a child prodigy. Billy and Mike both had a choice if they wanted to
play football or not.
Jing Mei Woo s cultureis different from her mother s culture because the way her mother was
raised is different from the modernized American way that Jing Mei Woo was raised. Jing Mei
Woo was pressured to become something special in her life that would bring honor to her family.
Her mother wanted to show her off like a trophy because that shows that their kids are talented and
that they are not like lazy americans . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Case Study On Boeing s 787 Dreamliner
INTRODUCTION Many consider Boeing s 787 Dreamliner an example of a failed project.
Twenty six billion dollars over budget, almost four years late, and several quality issues surround
the innovative new aircraft (Ausick 2014). This paper explores Boeing s approach of materializing
the Dreamliner from a project management perspective by comparing the company s undertakings
with project management principles. Three factors define the success of any project; these are time,
cost, and quality (Wysocki and RK 2013: 4). This paper identifies three main facets of project
management that were inappropriately implemented, namely; Resourcing, Stakeholder
Management, and Risk Management and how their improper implementation led to the violation of
the three constraints (i.e. time, cost, and quality). The paper is divided into three sections, the first
of which will establish a timeline of events. This project background will serve as a case study for
the analysis in the following section that will be structured such that each of the previously
mentioned facets will be independently analyzed and contrasted with project management
principles. Finally the paper will conclude with a summary of the analysis and recommendations
based on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seventy percent of the aircraft s production and designing was outsourced to over fifty Tier 1

seven thousand Boeing employees went on strike due to the company s outsourcing policies and
what its effects on job security (Doornbos n.d.). The strike lasted for fifty seven days and it would
cost Boeing a total of three months in production time, an estimated $100 million a day in revenue,

Benefits Of Hiring Virtual Employees
The Internet has made working from home a reality for employees and has completely changed
the way businesses operate in the modern world. No longer do business owners have to pay for
office space, they can simply meet with their employees virtually and still get business done.
Hiring virtual employees has proven to be very advantageous for many businesses, helping to cut
down on costs and streamline workflow. By widening the hiring pool from local to global allows
employers to select from a range of of talent.
However, with all of the advantages of allowing employees to work virtually, there is no getting
around the fact that managing them can prove to be challenging. This is not to say that you can t
manage your virtual employees successfully, you just need to have to have the knowledge and tools
to do so.
The following tips will help you be able to transition from a traditional management style to
working with virtual employees quickly and effectively.
Create a sense of community
When all of your employees are working from home and possibly live in different states/countries
and time zones, it is easy for everyone to forget that they are part of a team.
Because your virtual team members don t work in the same location, they may not communicate
and collaborate as much as they need to.
In a virtual environment you can still create a sense of community for your employees by creating
opportunities for team members to chat both formally and informally.

Aristotle s Notions Of Virtues Essay
Aristotle s notions of virtues are the heart of the subject matter in Aretaic Ethics. The concept of
Aretaic ethics comes from the Greek word arete which translates as human excellence or excellence
of character, virtue (Virtue Ethics, 2013). Virtue ethics emphasizes being a certain person with
certain quality of character. Its basic concept is that the virtueor value of the actions is not in the act
itself, rather it is in the heart of the actor. Though it may seem not overly compatible with today s
notions, I believe Aristotle s notions of virtues are an important precursor towards self fulfillment
and harmonized society.
The heart of virtue ethics is the search for eudaimonia translated in Greek for happiness or to the
concept of human flourishing (Nagel, 1972). Aristotle believes that everything has a natural telos
, an aim or a goal towards which things are headed. For humans, the natural telos is ultimate
happiness which could be achieved through flourishing in all aspects of our lives. Virtue or
excellence is a necessary condition for happiness. So what is virtue? According to Aristotle, virtue
is a concept which exists as the mean between excess and deficiency (Sandel, 2010). It can be
viewed as the middle point between having too much and having too little. So implementing
specific virtues alongside practical wisdom over our lives would allow us to flourish leading
towards happiness.
I believe that applying Aristotle s notions of virtue alongside practical

The Between Prokaryotic And Evolution Of Cells And...
Essay topic: Symbioses between Prokaryotic cells that happened approximately 2 billion years ago
are thought to be at the origin of Eukaryotes. But mutually dependent symbioses continue to be
established at the cellular and organism levels. Read the section on the origin of Eukaryotes in the
unit s prescribed textbook and use the reference below to research and describe the importance of
symbioses in the origin and evolution of cells and organisms with novel capabilities.
Student and ID
Symbiosis refers to the close, mutually beneficial association between two or more different
biological species, which enables these species to undergo organismal evolution and variation in an
assortment of ways (Takahiro, Yoshiko, Naruo, Manabu, Nori, Takema 2016). Symbiosis comes in
three main forms of interaction; mutualistic, communalistic and parasitic. (10). The endosymbiont
theory refers to the collection of principles that models the origins of the mitochondrion, which
commenced with the engulfing of a bacterium by an archaeon (2). Such an establishment at
cellular and organism levels is of high importance for environmental, agricultural and human
health (3). The origins of Eukaryotic cells and its evolution, as well as the novel capabilities of
certain cells and organisms as a result of symbiosis is increasingly being recognised as an applied
importance and hence will be the key focus of this essay.

Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders (...
Definitions
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) defines substance abuse as
addiction. Addiction is defined by abuse and dependence. Abuse is use that impairs an individual
person s ability to function. Dependence is physical withdraw, and centering one s life around
obtaining and using the substance (Kaye and David, 2014). Like a lot of populations those
individuals who suffer from substance abuse have terms they are referred to that are offensive to
them and their disease. Terms like addict, abuser, and junkie are seen as demeaning to them
because it labels the individual by their disease. Preferred terms would be a person in active
addiction, a person with a substance issue disorder, or a person experiencing an alcohol/drug
problem. Habit or drug habit denies the medical nature of the condition instead individuals with
substance issues prefer substance misuse disorder, active addiction, and alcohol and drug disease
( National Alliance , 2008). There are no holidays that are specific to people with substance issues
however in Alcohol Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) there are chips given to
individuals who remain substance free. The chips are given out after 30 days, 90 days, and 6
months after that it is by year.

Venture to Find Success
Nothing ventured nothing gained is one of the most famous lessons learned by many successful
people. Laura Patrick, the author of 850 Magazine, wrote: There is no doubt that the number of
venture and angel investors in an area is directly proportional to the number of successful start
up companies . As an ambitious, aspiring person, my career conception is a job that can bring
me stable revenue even when confronted with challenges. Business is typically the leading way
for people who start up their career to gain wealth. Therefore, I would like to be a businessman
in landscape design and construction, including designing and erecting gardens, building private
residential landscaping, park projects, recreational facilities, airports, hospitals. What I need to
be successful in my career is experience, education, and a business plan. To begin a business, the
business plan is essential to insure that my business can bring profit and minimize the risks of the
business. Customers are more and more demanding on service qualities, price, and guarantees,
after sale services. Arlette Measures, a health and business writer, states that, creating a solid
business plan is the first step toward success in your business venture. From obtaining funding to
hiring employees to planning for expansion, a business plan can be your guide to keeping your
business on track. Your business plan can keep you focused on your goals and keep you moving

Substance Abuse Personal Statement
I have recently graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor s degree in Psychology
and a minor in Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies. I have also recently been accepted to
University of Houston Clear Lake s Clinical Psychology Master s program. My main areas of
interest are mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Therefore, my educational and
career goal is to be able to help people with these types of issues. The comorbidity of drug
addiction and other mental disorders has been a primary research topic for decades in the
psychology community. This trend is evident by the plethora of studies conducted regarding a
variety of combinations of substance addictions and mental disorders. I believe that being able to

For example, studies are frequently restricted to alcoholism as the drug due to the legal
complications involving other drugs. The legal status of several other drugs, such as heroin and
meth, make it difficult to study the mental health of those who are addicted to such substances.
Also, the stigmas that people who are addicted to drugs, as well as people who suffer from
mental disorders, face is excruciatingly crippling to the field of research. Due to current stigmas, a
meth addict with schizophrenia is not going to want to seek help for their own issues let alone

How Did Charles Starkweather Murder
Charles Starkweather (murder) Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate went on a murder
spree, killing eleven people, over the course of less than two months. Charles was sentenced to
death by the electric chair, and Fugate did 18 years in prison. I will focus on Charles s story.
Charles did not come from a rich family. He had 6 siblings, and his family barely had enough
money to afford a house with them. They never went without clothes, had to skip a meal, or live
on the streets, but they certainly didn t have much. Even so, his family loved him, and wasn t
abusive. Charles was a good child. When Charles was only a small child he was thought to be

to him by his father, even though his family had very little money. Charles s father was
infuriated by the fact that Charles had let the car get damaged. This led to a major argument,
and even a short physical fight, and led to Charles being kicked out of the house. Charles would
never be welcomed back. Charles got a job at the newspaper warehouse, but he wasn t a good
employee. His boss and co workers believed he was stupid. He would fail to complete even the
simplest of tasks. He made barely enough to pay rent, and sometimes it wasn t even enough for
that. When rent wasn t in on time, his landlord would lock him out. The one reason he chose that
job was because he worked right next to Caril s school, and he could see her as soon as she got
out every day. Charles went to the gas station one day to get Caril a plush bear. The only problem
was he could not afford it. He wanted to buy it on credit, but the cashier would not let him,
because his job prohibited using credit. Charles was infuriated by this, so he left the gas station,

Harry Connick Jr. Television Show Effect On Society
After visiting the Harry show it has made me wonder about how Harry Connick Jr. television
show effect people in society. Being that millions of people watch his show, I know it has to
have some impact on different communities. The episode that we attended have sent different
messages to many people of all ages, and influence those as well. Harry is a big face as a celebrity,
so whether if he is a televisionhost, singer, or actor, whatever he does will affect people negatively
or positively.
For example, when Harry introduced Jacob Tremblay who starred in a hit movie Wonder on the
show. It may have sent a message to the youth in society stating that whatever age you are, you can
achieve anything you put your mind to. The episode also shows how not everyone have a chance
to experience being an audience of a show or even being ask to talk on a show, so we should
take advantage of every opportunity that is offered. Also when Guillermo Diaz who plays in a
drama series Scandal, it also sends a meaning to adults as well. From this episode I learn that
society offers plenty, not everyone is as kind as Harry and his crew members, and not everyone
is willing to give people a chance a equality. I agree that Harry reinforce social value on that
episode because of the fact that he treated everyone like family. In term paper part I, I talk about
how Harry feels like talk shows shouldn t be about judging someone or gossiping but rather
positivity and things that are important in

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
Life Back Overlooked
Electroconvulsive therapy (also called ECT) is a form of therapy invented in the 1930 s which
uses electrodes to shock and trigger a seizure in a patient to help with rebalancing the chemicals
in the brain s system. The patient is first placed under a general anesthesia and given muscle
relaxants so that they are asleep during the procedure and it won t cause them pain. Two
electrodes attached to the patient s scalp and which when stimulated will create a seizure. The
seizure is brief and only lasts for about a minute and the patient is carefully monitored to ensure
that everything is going as it is supposed to. Afterwards, they are monitored for any side effects or
unusual behavior caused from the treatment. ECT is most commonly used for extreme cases of
depression but is also used to help with mania, catatonia, and some cases of schizophrenia. ECT is a
last resort type treatment when many other forms haven t worked as well as it is urgent and
waiting for medications such as antidepressants isn t an option. Depending on the severity of the
case and the doctor a patient receiving ECT may go two or three times a week for a month. ... Show

Andrew D Reisner confirms, ECT clearly causes some transitory memory problems, (215) in The
Electroconvulsive Therapy Controversy: Evidence and Ethics. There are many other forms of
therapy that could be used to treat conditions that ECT targets. The treatment was invented in the
1930 s and still doctors and researchers are unsure on how it actually works. There are many
different ways a patient can receive adequate treatment such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy,
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, along with proper medication. All of that in mind, ECT can sound
like a poor idea and can steer people away from

What Is Jan Eisenhardt s Contribution To Canada
Amidst the chaos and disparity of the great depression, there was one man who brought hope
and happiness to British Columbia in the form of recreation. Jan Eisenhardt, also known as Ian
Eisenhardt, has been touted as a national hero and treasure (as cited in Markham Starr Delamere,
2005, para. 2) for his contributions to recreation in Canada and abroad. He was born in 1906 in
Denmark and relocated to Vancouver, Canada in 1928. Eisenhardt began his career in recreation
as a playground attendant in and was later promoted to Supervisor of Playgrounds for Vancouver
(Dunae, 1992) He was known to be an avid advocate of physical activity and wellness as a means
for personal and social freedom and wellbeing (Macdonald, 2013). During The Great Depression of
the 1930 s, Eisenhardt, with the help of BC Minister of Education George Weir, spearheaded a
revolutionary recreational movement dubbed The Provincial Recreation Program or the Pro Rec
movement . At time when Vancouver was plagued with unemployment, homelessness, and despair,
the pro rec movement was intended to bring relief and purpose to unemployed men (Schrodt, 1983).

Coming up with development strategies can be difficult because it is not a one shoe fits all
concept. Many different countries and organizations have their own development plans that
specifically fit their needs, for example; in class we learned that Africa as well as Europe and
North America and Asia have their own development plans special to their wishes and desires. For
Partners in Health, I would focus on donations and getting the organization more widely popular.
This organization already has well known sponsors such as the American Cancer Society and the
Ronald McDonald House so I would reach out to more businesses and encourage them to donate.
There are a variety of development strategies but there is only about one or two that would be
useful for Partners in Health. One development strategy that would not work would be the import
substitution industrialization strategy because it is a trade and economic policy which advocates
replacing foreign imports with domestic production. It is based on the premise that a country
should attempt to reduce its foreign dependency through the local production of industrialized

General Electric ( Ge )
General Electric General Electric (GE abbreviated) was started with Thomas Edison s invention of
the light bulb. Both Thomas Edison and JP Morgan started the Edison Lamp Company, which later
became known as General Electric. The people at GE are committed to making a world that works
better. General Electric does not have a standard mission statement, but they explain their objectives
by the simple equation seen below. General Electric, as seen in the equation above, looks at what
the world needs, finds a better way to produce that need and does all of this with a relentless drive
to invent and build things that matter. And this equation equals a world that will work better. GE
takes pride in the over all quality of their products and wants stakeholders to know that they are
very customer driven and will put the customer first and foremost. In the GE work equation, they do
not reference the teamwork, customer, excellence and other attributes they may have, but they do
focus on markets served, citizenship, employees, and their self concept. General Electric was
actually founded in 1892 when Edison General Electric and The Thompson Houston Company
merged to become The General Electric Company with Charles A. Coffin as the first president.
Since the formation of the company, General Electric has come to be the top contributor in health,
science, and technology, more so than any other company. There have been some remarkable times

Michelle Obama Leadership Model
Leadership is a skill that one is not born with, but is acquired through life experiences and
interactions. Michelle Obama perseverance to attain a higher education, a concept foreign in her
family, shows the dedication and determination a leader must have. As a leader, it is imperative
that once you establish a mission or purpose, that you, as well as your team members, worked to
accomplish that goal. Because of her perseverance, Michelle can be best identified as a pace
setter, innovative and charismatic leader because through the various projects she undertook as
her role of First Lady, she influences people through personality, inspires passion and the need to
be active in one s own community. For example, this can be seen in her role as Executive Director
for the Chicago office of Public Allies where she mobilized youths and community to get active
and set fundraising records for the organization that still stood 12 years after she left. Michelle
influences people through her own success. Having attended Harvard Law, becoming a top attorney
and later the first African American First Lady, she has influenced youths across the nation to
believe that anything is possible, so long as they have faith. In accordance to the Leadership
Theories, Michelle Obamacan be categorized under the Authentic Leadership Approach; for these
leaders, their leadership is genuine, develops over time, transparent and driven by moral values

Alienation In Ousmane Sembene s Black Girl
Written and directed by Ousmane Sembene, a novelist turned filmmaker, Black Girl tells the
story of a young African woman named Diouana who leaves her home in Senegal with her
French employer, hopeful the work and opportunities offered by France will lead her to an
improved life. What begins as an optimistic journey soon reveals itself a grand disappointment as
Diouana realises her role as the children s caretaker has morphed into that of a maid and France
reveals itself to be a prison rather than a liberation. Between cooking, cleaning, taking care of the
children and enduring constant disrespect from her employer and their friends, Diouana s hopeful
nature is dulled as she starts feeling the weight of her isolation and alienation. Through the use of
his carefully chosen and curated settings, Sembene comments on the questions of postcolonial
identity and displacement, offering to his audience Diouana s journey as an example of the inner
turmoil of defining African identity while still under the influence of colonialism. Sembene uses
settings, and the contrast between his settings, to emphasises the process of alienation Diouana
goes through during the film. She is trying to pinpoint her place in the world and, by leaving her
country, finds herself cultureless and restrained. It is evident in the contrast between the scenes
taking place in France and the flashbacks in Dakar that by moving to France, Diouana loses a part
of herself. Almost every scene set in France takes

Outline Of Speech On Sexual Assault On College Campuses
Title of Speech: Sexual Assault on College Campuses
Specific Purpose: To inform the audience on the issue of college sexual assault issues on a national
and local level, the role of law enforcement, administration, and prevention tactics.
Thesis: Sexual Assault on college campuses is a rising issue across the nation.
Introduction:
I.Attention Getter
College is a place where people experience many firsts. First time living away from home, first
time having to pay for laundry, and roughly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 16 men may experience their
first sexual assault. (Krebs, C. P., Lindquist, C., Warner, T., Fisher, B., Martin, S. (2007).
II.Audience Relevance Link
According to RAINN, the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network college aged students are at
high risk for sexual assault, whether they attend a university or not.
III.Credibility
As a woman in college, I constantly feel the pressure to watch out for myself and my friends.
Having to watch my drink at every party, always have a buddy and even watching what I wear
when I go out or who I talk to is a continuous reminder of the problem that is sexual assault on
college campuses
IV.Thesis
Sexual Assault on college campuses is a rising issue across the nation.
V.Preview

Sullivan et al., (2011) maintain acknowledging the complexity of relationships with women,

Sullivan et al., (2011) research Freeney and Fellenz (2013a; 2013b) demonstrates that quality
midwifery care is promoted when midwives experienced their role as valuable to the health
organisation, those midwives that perceived their role as autonomous and having a prosocial
impact were further engaged in their work. The findings of Aiken et al., (2012) extensive hospital
research of patient safety and satisfaction associated an improvement in patient outcomes, including
mortality and patient satisfaction when hospitals have lower patient to nurse ratios with nurses
involved in decision making, this improved job satisfaction for nurses. In consideration of Aiken et

September 11 Attacks and World Trade Center
Watching the movie 102 minutes for the second time opened my eyes to the tragedy of 9/11 more
than it did the first time. Being only six years old at the time of the incident, I didn t truly
understand the magnitude of the disaster until years later. The quality of the movie made it very
clear to me just how painful being around the World Trade Centerbuildings during the attack was,
not only for the people in the buildings that were hit, but for the people around as well. The
feeling of helplessness that the bystanders must have felt in addition to the feeling of fear must
have been unbearable. Seeing the footage of the attack in such clear video made it feel as though it
was like a

Second I think that people weren t necessarily sure that what they saw was a real event. Sure, it
clearly happened, but the events seemed fictional because of their magnitude. I know that even
though I saw footage of the attacks, it still seems surreal. The magnitude of the attack makes it
seem like something that no one would expect to actually happen to us. Overall I think that those
who did not turn off their cameras did something positive because we would not see so much about
the attacks or ever forget them with this much visual coverage of it.
I think that the events of 9/11 made a huge impact on those around that survived. In my opinion,
I think that I would have felt so unbearable helpless in a situation like this. I have an altruistic
sense of being so not being able to help those around me makes me feel like I failed my life s goal
of helping others even though I feel that I might be in danger.
102 Minutes differs from other documentations because it is a mix of many different people s
perspectives and real experiences. It shows the true, raw emotions of the attacks rather than just
demonstrating the factual event. I think that 102 Minutes was more effective that other movies
made about 9/11 because it showed everyone the real events, not Hollywood altered, not hiding and
bias, it showed the real hurt that not only New York, but the country

Turning Against Myself Analysis
From birth through death, people were given a stereotype label that they do not want but is force
to accept it. Stereotypes happen everywhere, whether they are in the past or the present, some of
them changed, some did not. Stereotypes passed on from one generation to another and from one s
own judgment also. There are a lot of similarities between the paststereotypes and the presentones.
There are many written stories and videos that describe these stereotypes by showing many
different experiences with stereotypes and how the writers felt about them. For the past stereotypes,
I choose Asian culture and Asian American identities... by Hemant Shah because it described the
stereotypes in the 1920s and how the minority was hated on. Another content that I choose is
Turning Against Myself by Amy Lee because she talked about the stereotypes that she knew when
she was in school. For the present stereotypes, I choose Confounding Stereotypes by Indigo

Stereotypes are a way to classify people but not everything is true. According to Williams s
poem, she said, I m not here to be boxed in within the framework of a system that has the majority
of the population believe in (Williams 4:20). No one wants to be classify as a person in this one
group that the facts are not true. Some might become the stereotypes that everyone classified but
everyone else wants to be different. The past stereotypes and the present stereotypes are similar and

Women In Renaissance Italy
In Renaissance Italy a woman s personal identity wasn t of any great importance. Her worth in
society was calculated on how well she fit into the ideological image of the Renaissance woman.
Women depicted in art were from the upper class and nobility, these women were confined to their
domestic duties as their unions were to further the fortunes of their families. The rise of humanism
in RenaissanceItaly lead to an enlightened sense of the importance of individualism; however the
belief failed to extend to women. The impact of Humanism in female portraiture showing the sitter
as a fully realised person with intellect, talents, and personality is frustratingly absent with few

Characteristics Of Fujio Mitarai
2.0 Analysis
2.1 Personality traits of Fujio Mitarai
Personality is often described in terms of traits. It is a combination of traits that classifies an
individual s behaviour. The big five model of personality traits is the most widely accepted way to
describe personalities. It classifies traits into five dimensions: surgency/dominance, agreeableness,
adjustment, conscientiousness, and openness to experience (Achua and Lussier, 2013).
Fujio Mitarai, the president and CEO of Canon Inc. has turned around Canon s fortunes and tripled

In 1995, Mitarai was faced with some very tough choices after he took over leadership of the
company. A traditional Japanese leader would probably have adopted a laissez faire approach and
just hoped to weather the storm. But Mitarai adopted an autocratic approach. Autocratic leadership
is not all bad. Sometimes it is the most effective style to use. Twenty three years working
experiences in the US enable Mitarai to know clearly that his key challenge was to return the
company to profitability. Therefore, he was merciless in axing unprofitable parts of the business.
This decision is made without any form of consultation. Based on Lewin s experiments, this may
resulted in the most level of discontent. Therefore, these radical and un Japanese reforms outraged
Mitarai s management team. But all was forgiven as the business returned to profitable growth, and

Feminism In The Scarlet Letter
Strong Men but Even Stronger Women Women have had to be strong even when they have been
told that they have no say. In The Scarlet Letter Hawthorne the main character is one of these
women. The feminist point of view can be seen in the role of Pearl as a young child. She will one
day look back an realize how strong her mother had to be to wear the scarlet letterwhen she knew
the truth all along. The Puritan rules and regulations were very strict. Her transformation
throughout the novel, linked directly to Hester s influence, is also a direct result of the Puritan
moral code that served as a catalyst for this profound change a change still reverberating in today
s society. Pearl s metamorphosis can best be demonstrated by concentrating on two specific areas
within The Scarlet Letter: Hawthorne s repetition of certain images and words used to describe
Pearl s actions and inherent nature, and Hester s role as a mechanism to bring about the new
woman all of the Pearls of the future (Daniels). [This is a very long quote, Michael, which should
be either broken up into shorter uses or put into a block quote. A block quote is indented within the

Disadvantages of a department store like Primark:
Distance:
As department stores are generally located in central parts of a city it is quite difficult to reach

High cost of operations:
The cost of doing business as a department store is very high because of high rent, salaries to staff

Long Term Effects Of The New Deal Essay
All these acts had a huge impact on America having long last effects. The presidential election of
1936, Democrats had a strong fight and Republicans had no chance with Roosevelt running. The
Democrats were big on to cure the Great Depression and recover as soon as possible. Roosevelt
also was a huge advocate towards blacks and had moral support from the. The Republican running
was Alfred M. Landon, a governor from Kansas who was against the New Deal. Roosevelt ended up
in winning the election with a number of electoral votes against Landon. His victory had Americans
to support the New Deal more than before. The New Deal began to weaken because of the

This recession came about from the recovery from the Great Depression. Roosevelt began to scale
back deficit spending, because he believed that the worst of the Great Depression had passed
and because he was receiving pressure from conservatives in Congress (and even from ardent
New Dealers in his own cabinet). The Works Progress Administration were reduced dramatically.
This was a way to cut spending by consumers. As the economy started to develop it was known as
Roosevelt Recession which led the stock market to crash again in the year of 1937 and prices of
products went downhill. The economy was not stable enough to go through on its own. Many
people blamed Roosevelt for this problem, which made him look unreliable by putting the blame on
others. This resulted in many things, for example losing many seats in the House and Senate during
elections of 1938. Republicans made a comeback which diminished the New Deal. The New Deal
provided countless of actions that helped Americans in the time being, but it did not end the Great
Depression. Many Americans were still suffering with hunger, unemployment and a stable place
to live or no place at all. It was believed by many politicians and economist that when the U.S
entered World War Two, the New Deal could have been more of a success if Roosevelt put in more

The Ways We Lie By Stephanie Ericsson
Lying: it s something everyone is guilty of. Whether they be big or small, lies are everywhere.
We live in a society full of lies, so we take the consequences of lying with a grain of salt. There s
no doubt about it; lying can be dangerous. Therefore, we should be more wary of our lies and their
consequences. Lies can be detrimental and do have the potential to change society for the worse.
Lying is a common habit that everyone has had experiences with. I have lied and have been lied to
numerous times. Everyone has. However, not everyone exposed to a certain lie is aware of it s true
power. In her essay The Ways We Lie , Stephanie Ericsson criticizes our bad habit of lying. She
explains many different types of lies and even gives examples to show how harmful they can be
as our acceptance of lies becomes a cultural cancer that eventually shrouds and reorders reality
until moral garbage becomes invisible to us as water is to a fish (128). If everyone told lies, no one
would be able to draw the line between fake and real. Today, we can still tell when someone is
lying most of the time. However, if we were to be raised in a society where lying was more
prevalent than being honest, it wouldn t be as obvious. For instance, in the children s story The
Boy Who Cried Wolf, the main character lies too many times about when he sees a wolf, so
when there actually is a wolf, no one believes him. If he was more careful with his lies, others
would be able to tell he wasn t lying and

And semantic indeterminacy is the ether of attitude of language. It fills the interstices of our
intentions and pervades accounts of presupposition, tense, fiction, translation, and especially,
elusiveness. Language is primarily formed through the interaction of people. This interaction could
be of any nature, but in today s world when English is undoubtedly the universal language, external
factors play a pivotal role in English language s evolution. Therefore, it would be imperative to
look at the influences of these factors on the English language. The English language of today
reflects many centuries of development (Naomi 24). The political and social events that have in the
course of English history so profoundly affected the English people in their national life have
generally had a recognizable effect on their language. The Christianizing of Britain brought England
into contact with Latin civilization and made significant additions to our vocabulary. The
Scandinavian invasions resulted in a considerable mixture of the two races and their languages. The
Norman Conquest made English for two centuries the language mainly of the lower classes, while
the nobles and those associated with them used French on almost all occasions (Baugh 2). And
when English once more regained supremacy as the language of all elements of the population, it
greatly changed in both form and vocabulary from what it had been in the 11th century.

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead
Founded by SГёren Kierkegaard, existentialism is a philosophy concerning why life exists and the
meaning behind it. It emphasizes how there is no set purpose in life, and the humans just merely
exist in the world. A big idea behind existentialism is that existence precedes essence. After World
War II, existentialismgained popularity in Europe with it appearing in many works of literature. In
the film Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the main characters of the film contemplate the
meaning behind life throughout the movie, especially during their exchange about death in a box.
Similarly, in Shakespeare s Hamlet, the main character questions life and death in his famous To be

Through this delivery, the audience hears a lot about his thoughts regarding life and death.
Hamlet seems to think that dying ends all the suffering and heartache of living. Hamlet says, To
die, to sleep / No more and by a sleep to say we end / The heartache (Shakespeare III, i, 68 70). To
him, death is freedom. This is actually very similar to the existentialism, as they view death as
nothingness and freedom. Furthermore, Hamlet fears death because of the uncertain. He says, But
that the dread of something after death, / The undiscovered country from whose bourn / . . . Thus
conscience does make cowards of us all (Shakespeare III, i, 86 87 and 91). The unknown scares
Hamlet. This view is quite a departure from existentialism. Existentialists believe that death is
nothingness not unknown like Hamlet. Moreover, in the end of Hamlet s speech, he mentions how
a well thought out plan may be overthought causing the action not to happen. Hamlet seems to
believe that one should act quickly and not overthink. This seems contrary to existentialism.
Existentialists believe in freedom of choice; however, they believe that choices have a huge
impact. Therefore, they should be well thought out and not carried out rashly. In this sense, Hamlet
does not seem to follow the existentialist viewpoint. Hamlet s To be or not to be speech in the play

For one, it is not safe for children. The program s strict point system would not fit a child s daily

consuming the amount needed for a child s diet. I think they would either eat too much of certain

The Ben Carson Story
When people hear the name Ben Carson they think of the neurosurgeon, who separated the
Siamese conjoined twins; Patrick and Benjamin Binder, at his adult age of 33. They will
remember what a tough process it must ve been on the parents, and especially on their mother,
Theresa Binder after she d searched throughout the medical world to find a team that would
separate her twins while being able to preserve both of their lives. There were other surgeon teams
who told her it could not be done and that one of her sons would have to die, which is a thought
that she could not even bare. Luckily, she d discovered the John Hopkins Team and met Ben Carson
who was one of the neurosurgeons there and was able to separate her twin boys keeping both of
them alive. / Moreover, they will think of the young man who was encouraged by his motherto work
hard in school and read for a quality education and the opportunity for him to achieve his all time
dream which at his young age was to become a doctor, though he was not very sure what kind.
Ben Carson, known as Dr. Carson today was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 18, 1951.
The second son of Sonya and Robert Solomon Carson, he d grown up in the hard climate of the
inner city Detroit. Ben had gone through a lot of struggles as a child, which of course have made
him stronger and smarter based on his success today. For instance, when he was eight years old

The Replication Of DNA In Escherichia Coli
Introduction
Today s issue of Biology: Meselson and Stahl (Vol 4, 1958) includes a groundbreaking
development into further understanding of DNA Replication. On pages 671 682 is an article titled
The Replication of DNA in Escherichia Coli . Meselson and Stahl conducted an experiment to
understand how DNA self replicates by the use of Bacterial transformation to clone parental DNA.
In the article, Meselson and Stahl investigate the distribution between the parental and daughter
DNA molecules. This is achieved by the use of Radio Isotopic labelling. Uniform Isotopic N15
was grown in E.coli consisting of N14 medium to observe the distribution of N15 DNA
macromolecules. Within the article, the authors also discuss the problems they faced during the
investigation and how significant Watsons and Cricks Double helix suggests how DNA self
replicates.
What is DNA?
The discovery of the structure of DNA has always been associated with Watson and Crick. Their
double helix structure, which they developed in 1983, has been used as a model to understand
how DNA self replicates (Karp, 2009). The structure of DNA is made up of covalent bonds
between 4 unique nucleotide bases. These bases bind together via complementary base pairing,
therefore allowing Adenine to only bind with Thymine, and Cytosine with Guanine (Penn State,
Ebery College of Science, 2016). The use of covalent bonds makes the structure strongly bound like
a zipper. However, just like a zipper, it can easily open up

The Changing Choice In The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini
Have you ever made a choice that has changed your life forever whether it was in a good or bad
way? Well one choice you make can change someone s life forever whether it s in a good way or
bad way. Here in America we mostly see one choice change our lives for the better like being in a
relationship, taking a job oppurtunity, going to college to get a career, all of these things change
our lives for the better. In afghanistan a lot of their choices change their lives for the worst such as
deciding not to follow their dress code, bullying others because of what they are, not following the
Taliban s rules that they have to follow or they would get hurt. Khaled Hosseinis, The Kite Runner,
teaches the reader that one choice can change your life forever through Amir letting Hassan get
bullied and Amir getting rid of Hassan.
In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini the main character Amir makes a choice that changes
his life forever, which was to let Hassan get bullied and hurt by Assef. It was after the kite
running game Hassan left and nobody knew where he went. Amir was searching all over for
him and found him in an alley. In the alley Hassan was with Assef and Assefs friends, they were
bullying him. Amir was going to save him but did not. They just continued to bully Hassan and
eventually raped him because he was being rude to Assef and Amir just stood there and ran away.
Hosseini insist that, In the end i ran. I ran because I was a coward. I was afraid of Assef and what

New Democracy And Manifesto Of Korean Communist Party

TA: Chuchu Wang
Primary Document Analysis of
On New Democracy and Manifesto of Korean Communist Party In January of 1940, Zedong Mao
delivered a speech during a liberal conference in Yan an, the center of communism and socialism in
China. In the speech, Mao argued that the fate of Chinese revolution must be held in hands of
proletariats, and as a leading result, the revolution must construct China as a socialism country. Two
decades ago, in 1921, Shanghai, Korean communists also declared their country s independence by
publishing The Manifesto of Korean Communist Party. Bothered by Japan s invasion on their
country, Korean Communists severely criticized on Japanese colonists dominance on their ... Show

In the speech, Mao emphasized three major concepts: 1. Different from any other socialism
revolution happened before, Chinese revolution was in form of both capitalism and socialism
ideology. The revolution was initiated by elite class, representing capitalism, but promoted and
developed by workers and peasants, representing communism. Mao focus discussing about it in the
fifth part of speech, by directly indicating Therefore, the proletariat, the peasantry, the intelligentsia
and the other sections of the petty bourgeoisie undoubtedly constitute the basic forces determining
China s fate . (Page 10, Mao) 2. The Chinese revolution can be broke into two parts, and these two
parts must be completed step by step. Mao argued only after China finished the new democratic
revolution against imperialism and feudalism it could start the socialism revolution. Mao also had a
famous quote describing the revolution process: We should clean up dirt in our living room before
welcoming the guest , in which dirt symbolizes semi colonial status from Qing dynasty and guest
symbolizes the bright future for China. 3. New democratic China should be rebuilt both politically
and economically. Mao brought out his argument in fifth and sixth part of the speech, and
demonstrated in the following

Discuss Two Explanations For The Formation Of Romantic...
Discuss two or more explanations for the formation of romantic relationships. (8 + 16 marks)
Social exchange theory (SET), an economic theory, assumes that relationship behaviour is based
on a series of exchanges with individuals attempting to maximise their profits based on their
rewards and costs. Rewards include being cared for, companionship, and sharing of household
chores; costs include effort and financial investment. Rewards minus costs leaves profit, and a
person will be more attracted towards a relationship with greater potential profit. A comparison
level (CL), a standard against which present and potential relationships are judged, is formed. Our
CL is a product of our experiences in other relationships with our general views... Show more

For instance, Aronson and Under (1965) asked participants to evaluate a number of different
potential relationships. They found that participants preferred relationships that showed the
potential for an increase in profit rather than the actual size of the profit. Hence, when making an
evaluation of the attractiveness of a potential relationship, an individual s evaluation may look at
longer term outcomes. This places the central point of profit size in question. Furthermore, SET
may be culturally biased, as the language used reflects a culture in which economic values are
central. Hence, SET would seem appropriate for cultures where self gain is important to
individuals, i.e. individualist societies. However, for collectivist cultures, where the gain for an
individual s wider community is regarded as paramount, SET s central factor of self gain seems
far less relevant. Hence, SET is unlikely to be appropriate for collectivist cultures. Even with
individualist cultures, SET may only be appropriate for short term relationships. For instance, Clark
and Mills (1979) found that people in long term relationships regarded economic principles of their
relationship as

A Textual Analysis Of Amy Winehouse
The award winning documentary Amy was directed by Asif Kapadia and was made in 2015.
Kapadia is known for his visually striking films exploring characters living in timeless, extreme
and unforgiving landscapes. ( Asif Kapadia Biography. IMDb. February 26, 2016 .). In this film,
Kapadia depicts the life, fame, and the tragic death of Amy Winehouse. Winehouse was a British
singer who only creating two albums, became one of the biggest musicicons in British and jazz
history. With a voice oft described as a combination of Billy Holiday, Dinah Washington and Sarah
Vaughan, Amy Winehouse was a pop star with soul; a once in two generational musical talent
whose appeal crossed cultural and demographic boundaries. ( Amy (2015). Rottentomatoes.com....

Pathos refers to the emotional appeal of a text or film. In this documentary, I believe that the
director s use of pathos is a powerful aspect because he uses this device to appeal to the emotions
of he audience so that they have sympathy toward Amy. In the very beginning of the film,
Kapadia shows a home movie of Amy singing happy birthday to one of her close friends who
was interviewed later in the film. This scene is important in the symbol of music and the
transition into the story of Amy s rise to success because this scene sets the stage for Amy s
career and start to becoming a Grammy winning jazz singer. I also found this scene to important
because this scene depicts the time in Amy s life when she found music to be happy and
enjoyable before entering her career. The rhetorical device of pathos as a mean to describe the
symbol of music can be seen later in the beginning of the documentary. The director shows
scenes of Amy when she was first starting out in the music industry. In one of these scenes, the
director uses a voiceover of Amy when she describes the moment in her life when her father left
her mother. Amy states when my dad left my mom, I felt that I can get way with anything; I can
do what I want, I can wear whatever I want, I can swear, I can smoke, and I can skip school and
be with my boyfriend in the house all day, my mother would walk into the house and see me with
my boyfriend and she would not care. Her friends and family then told the audience that Amy was
diagnosed with depression and was given antidepressants. Amy then said that I used music as an
outlet not many people who have depression can say that they have an outlet but when I feel
depressed, I can go to the studio, write a song, and sing and I would feel better. This scene is
important to the documentary overall and the symbol of music because this scene

Romanticism In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
1.The strange weather This is an element of nature as often used in romanticism. The weather is
being personified, as the Mariner says: Again, nature is seen as a powerful and threatening thing. It
s also definitely a character in the story along with the Mariner and the other people on the ship.
Nature is kind of a person in this thing. 2.The albatrossWhere nature is described as a powerful an
threatening thing when talking about the weather the opposite happens for the albatross. The
albatross is seen as a good omen. When it appears the ship breaks free and things are looking up.
For some inexplicable reason though the Mariner decides to shoot the albatross, it is not explained
in the poem why he decides it is a good idea but it just sort of... Show more content on

It s where the supernatural comes in. As the ship gets closer, they realize it s a ghost ship. This is a
clear element used in the horror genre, advocating the fact that The Rime of the ancient Mariner is
actually a gothic poem. 5.Spirits There s two spirits the Mariner hears arguing whilst he s in
some sort of trance. They argue about whether or not the Mariner deserves to be rescued and one
of the spirits remarks that: This later is confirmed by the Mariner when we learn why he
bothered the wedding guest that he told this tale to anyway: 4.High, even overwrought emotions
The ship ends up near to the equator and it gets becalmed there was no wind and they can t get
anywhere. As they sit idly, baking in the sun, we get those famous lines: Water, water,
everywhere, Nor any drop to drink. They are thirsty; they can t get anywhere. It really seems like
they are in trouble, like it s not going to be okay. They decide that the albatross was their good
luck charm and the Mariner needs to be punished for shooting it. So what they decide to do is
literally hang the dead albatross around the Mariner s neck and have him wander around like

Fall Of The Jin Dynasty
Following the fall of the Hans dynasty in 220 C.E., China divided into three separate kingdoms
known as the Three Kingdom Era. Powerful families and warlords who were in a constant battle
against each other led the north, south, and west. In addition to these battles, disease and natural
disasters also took an extensive toll on China. The battles continued for years and then in the year
280 C.E., a general under the Jin dynasty from the north managed to defeat the south and west for a
short time. The Jin dynasty produced 25 sons who after his death began to battle each other for the
power to control the dynasty. One of the sons made a disastrous mistake when he asked Turkic
nomads named Xiongnu to help him defeat his brothers. Xiongnu... Show more content on

Many Mongolians were unhappy about the acceptance of the Chinese language and the
combination of the Mongolian language. In addition to the unrest in the north, thousands of
wealthy educated Chinese families fled south. This migration to southern China made this region a
cultural mecca. Southern China did not experience the same fate as northern China but they did
have power struggles during the Age of Disunity. The years 220 589 C.E. was known as the Age
of Disunity in which Nomads were constantly invading China. In the midst of all the turmoil,
Buddhism spread throughout China. During the Hans dynasty, Confucianism was the philosophy.
After the fall of the Hans dynasty and during the Age of Disunity, the people began to gravitate
toward Buddhism. Buddhism s promise of inner peace and relief from life s burdens were an
interest to the people of China. In the year 399, Faxian a Chinese Buddhist monk made a
pilgrimage to India and returned to China in 414. He brought with him Indian Buddhist texts, which
he transcribed into Chinese. By 517 Buddhism became the official religion of southern China. The
Sui, Tang and Song dynasties prevailed in China during the years 589 1279. The years 589 to 618
saw the rule of Yang Jian, general for the Sui Dynasty. Under this rule, he began construction of the
Grand Canal connecting the north waterway to the south. Yang

Essay On Tax Reform
Overall, Democrats are against this tax reform and believe that it is being put in place to benefit
wealthy Americans. Democrat Jonathan Chait was interviewed in New York Magazine and he
believes that the tax cuts within the reform are specifically benefiting the rich. His suggestion was
that Democrats, in 2020, run a campaign that focuses on exposing Mr. Trump s false populism and
advocating for increased social spending. 6 The 51 49 vote in the Senate shows that no Senate
Democrats voted in favor of this taxreform; which speaks volumes about their thoughts on the bill.
Hours before the vote on the bill took place, Senate Democrats gave floor speeches tearing apart
the tax reform and sharing their great disapproval. Senator Jon Tester... Show more content on

The conditions of the country determines how much time a President can put into specific
promises. With the current situation of America and the world, President Trump has not been
given ample time to focus on his campaign promises.8 Again, there are many factors that stand in
the way of a President fulfilling their promises and President Trump is no exception to these
conditions. There have been many hurdles he has had to overcome to successfully do anything
as President. One of President Trump s biggest campaign promises was the promise to dismantle
ObamaCare and to create a better healthcare system for Americans. This principle was a large
part of his campaign and one that encouraged his supporters that there would be a change in
America s government. Recently, in July, President Trump attempted to pass a bill that
completely dismantled ObamaCare. The severity of this bill was a major reason why it didn t
pass, but the Senate approval of this new tax reform is a step in the right direction for President
Trump. He has been able to overcome many hurdles and keep one of his major campaign
promises. Taking all of these facts into consideration, this tax reform bill is a major victory for
President Trump. Overall, there are many changes in this historic tax reform. From healthcare to a
multitude of tax cuts and increases, this tax bill is going

  • 4. Case Study On Boeing s 787 Dreamliner INTRODUCTION Many consider Boeing s 787 Dreamliner an example of a failed project. Twenty six billion dollars over budget, almost four years late, and several quality issues surround the innovative new aircraft (Ausick 2014). This paper explores Boeing s approach of materializing the Dreamliner from a project management perspective by comparing the company s undertakings with project management principles. Three factors define the success of any project; these are time, cost, and quality (Wysocki and RK 2013: 4). This paper identifies three main facets of project management that were inappropriately implemented, namely; Resourcing, Stakeholder Management, and Risk Management and how their improper implementation led to the violation of the three constraints (i.e. time, cost, and quality). The paper is divided into three sections, the first of which will establish a timeline of events. This project background will serve as a case study for the analysis in the following section that will be structured such that each of the previously mentioned facets will be independently analyzed and contrasted with project management principles. Finally the paper will conclude with a summary of the analysis and recommendations based on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Benefits Of Hiring Virtual Employees The Internet has made working from home a reality for employees and has completely changed the way businesses operate in the modern world. No longer do business owners have to pay for office space, they can simply meet with their employees virtually and still get business done. Hiring virtual employees has proven to be very advantageous for many businesses, helping to cut down on costs and streamline workflow. By widening the hiring pool from local to global allows employers to select from a range of of talent. However, with all of the advantages of allowing employees to work virtually, there is no getting around the fact that managing them can prove to be challenging. This is not to say that you can t manage your virtual employees successfully, you just need to have to have the knowledge and tools to do so. The following tips will help you be able to transition from a traditional management style to working with virtual employees quickly and effectively. Create a sense of community When all of your employees are working from home and possibly live in different states/countries and time zones, it is easy for everyone to forget that they are part of a team. Because your virtual team members don t work in the same location, they may not communicate and collaborate as much as they need to. In a virtual environment you can still create a sense of community for your employees by creating opportunities for team members to chat both formally and informally. Some great ... • 6. Aristotle s Notions Of Virtues Essay Aristotle s notions of virtues are the heart of the subject matter in Aretaic Ethics. The concept of Aretaic ethics comes from the Greek word arete which translates as human excellence or excellence of character, virtue (Virtue Ethics, 2013). Virtue ethics emphasizes being a certain person with certain quality of character. Its basic concept is that the virtueor value of the actions is not in the act itself, rather it is in the heart of the actor. Though it may seem not overly compatible with today s notions, I believe Aristotle s notions of virtues are an important precursor towards self fulfillment and harmonized society. The heart of virtue ethics is the search for eudaimonia translated in Greek for happiness or to the concept of human flourishing (Nagel, 1972). Aristotle believes that everything has a natural telos , an aim or a goal towards which things are headed. For humans, the natural telos is ultimate happiness which could be achieved through flourishing in all aspects of our lives. Virtue or excellence is a necessary condition for happiness. So what is virtue? According to Aristotle, virtue is a concept which exists as the mean between excess and deficiency (Sandel, 2010). It can be viewed as the middle point between having too much and having too little. So implementing specific virtues alongside practical wisdom over our lives would allow us to flourish leading towards happiness. I believe that applying Aristotle s notions of virtue alongside practical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay topic: Symbioses between Prokaryotic cells that happened approximately 2 billion years ago are thought to be at the origin of Eukaryotes. But mutually dependent symbioses continue to be established at the cellular and organism levels. Read the section on the origin of Eukaryotes in the unit s prescribed textbook and use the reference below to research and describe the importance of symbioses in the origin and evolution of cells and organisms with novel capabilities. Student and ID Symbiosis refers to the close, mutually beneficial association between two or more different biological species, which enables these species to undergo organismal evolution and variation in an assortment of ways (Takahiro, Yoshiko, Naruo, Manabu, Nori, Takema 2016). Symbiosis comes in three main forms of interaction; mutualistic, communalistic and parasitic. (10). The endosymbiont theory refers to the collection of principles that models the origins of the mitochondrion, which commenced with the engulfing of a bacterium by an archaeon (2). Such an establishment at cellular and organism levels is of high importance for environmental, agricultural and human health (3). The origins of Eukaryotic cells and its evolution, as well as the novel capabilities of certain cells and organisms as a result of symbiosis is increasingly being recognised as an applied importance and hence will be the key focus of this essay. • 8. Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders (... Definitions Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) defines substance abuse as addiction. Addiction is defined by abuse and dependence. Abuse is use that impairs an individual person s ability to function. Dependence is physical withdraw, and centering one s life around obtaining and using the substance (Kaye and David, 2014). Like a lot of populations those individuals who suffer from substance abuse have terms they are referred to that are offensive to them and their disease. Terms like addict, abuser, and junkie are seen as demeaning to them because it labels the individual by their disease. Preferred terms would be a person in active addiction, a person with a substance issue disorder, or a person experiencing an alcohol/drug problem. Habit or drug habit denies the medical nature of the condition instead individuals with substance issues prefer substance misuse disorder, active addiction, and alcohol and drug disease ( National Alliance , 2008). There are no holidays that are specific to people with substance issues however in Alcohol Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) there are chips given to individuals who remain substance free. The chips are given out after 30 days, 90 days, and 6 months after that it is by year. I have also recently been accepted to University of Houston Clear Lake s Clinical Psychology Master s program. My main areas of interest are mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Therefore, my educational and career goal is to be able to help people with these types of issues. The comorbidity of drug addiction and other mental disorders has been a primary research topic for decades in the psychology community. This trend is evident by the plethora of studies conducted regarding a variety of combinations of substance addictions and mental disorders. I believe that being able to find so many scholarly resources is extremely encouraging to novices in the field, such as myself, because it inspires them to learn more about and conduct more research on this topic.... He made barely enough to pay rent, and sometimes it wasn t even enough for that. When rent wasn t in on time, his landlord would lock him out. • 12. Harry Connick Jr. Television Show Effect On Society After visiting the Harry show it has made me wonder about how Harry Connick Jr. television show effect people in society. Being that millions of people watch his show, I know it has to have some impact on different communities. The episode that we attended have sent different messages to many people of all ages, and influence those as well. Harry is a big face as a celebrity, so whether if he is a televisionhost, singer, or actor, whatever he does will affect people negatively or positively. For example, when Harry introduced Jacob Tremblay who starred in a hit movie Wonder on the show. It may have sent a message to the youth in society stating that whatever age you are, you can achieve anything you put your mind to. The episode also shows how not everyone have a chance to experience being an audience of a show or even being ask to talk on a show, so we should take advantage of every opportunity that is offered. Also when Guillermo Diaz who plays in a drama series Scandal, it also sends a meaning to adults as well. From this episode I learn that society offers plenty, not everyone is as kind as Harry and his crew members, and not everyone is willing to give people a chance a equality. I agree that Harry reinforce social value on that episode because of the fact that he treated everyone like family. In term paper part I, I talk about how Harry feels like talk shows shouldn t be about judging someone or gossiping but rather positivity and things that are important in ... • 13. Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Life Back Overlooked Electroconvulsive therapy (also called ECT) is a form of therapy invented in the 1930 s which uses electrodes to shock and trigger a seizure in a patient to help with rebalancing the chemicals in the brain s system. The patient is first placed under a general anesthesia and given muscle relaxants so that they are asleep during the procedure and it won t cause them pain. Two electrodes attached to the patient s scalp and which when stimulated will create a seizure. The seizure is brief and only lasts for about a minute and the patient is carefully monitored to ensure that everything is going as it is supposed to. Afterwards, they are monitored for any side effects or unusual behavior caused from the treatment. ECT is most commonly used for extreme cases of depression but is also used to help with mania, catatonia, and some cases of schizophrenia. ECT is a last resort type treatment when many other forms haven t worked as well as it is urgent and waiting for medications such as antidepressants isn t an option. • 14. What Is Jan Eisenhardt s Contribution To Canada Amidst the chaos and disparity of the great depression, there was one man who brought hope and happiness to British Columbia in the form of recreation. Jan Eisenhardt, also known as Ian Eisenhardt, has been touted as a national hero and treasure (as cited in Markham Starr Delamere, 2005, para. 2) for his contributions to recreation in Canada and abroad. He was born in 1906 in Denmark and relocated to Vancouver, Canada in 1928. Eisenhardt began his career in recreation as a playground attendant in and was later promoted to Supervisor of Playgrounds for Vancouver (Dunae, 1992) He was known to be an avid advocate of physical activity and wellness as a means for personal and social freedom and wellbeing (Macdonald, 2013). During The Great Depression of the 1930 s, Eisenhardt, with the help of BC Minister of Education George Weir, spearheaded a revolutionary recreational movement dubbed The Provincial Recreation Program or the Pro Rec movement . • 16. General Electric ( Ge ) General Electric General Electric (GE abbreviated) was started with Thomas Edison s invention of the light bulb. Both Thomas Edison and JP Morgan started the Edison Lamp Company, which later became known as General Electric. The people at GE are committed to making a world that works better. General Electric does not have a standard mission statement, but they explain their objectives by the simple equation seen below. General Electric, as seen in the equation above, looks at what the world needs, finds a better way to produce that need and does all of this with a relentless drive to invent and build things that matter. And this equation equals a world that will work better. GE takes pride in the over all quality of their products and wants stakeholders to know that they are very customer driven and will put the customer first and foremost. In the GE work equation, they do not reference the teamwork, customer, excellence and other attributes they may have, but they do focus on markets served, citizenship, employees, and their self concept. General Electric was actually founded in 1892 when Edison General Electric and The Thompson Houston Company merged to become The General Electric Company with Charles A. Coffin as the first president. Since the formation of the company, General Electric has come to be the top contributor in health, science, and technology, more so than any other company. Keble was founded in 1870 in memory of John Keble, who was passionate about promoting and reclaiming the Catholic heritage of the Church of England. Fellow enthusiasts were known as Tractarians (or The Oxford Movement) and it was they that funded the college with the twin aims of ecclesiastical reform and an express desire of making a first rate Oxford education more widely available. The benefactor of the chapel, William Gibbs, was a businessman who made his fortune dealing in Peruvian bird droppings, which was used as a fertiliser. Colourful mosaics, tiles and stained glass fill the interior, delighting the senses. William Holman Hunt’s original famous painting; ‘The light of the World’ hangs in the adjoining side chapel. Even at the time the designs drew criticism for being over elaborate. A French visitor thought it was magnificent but better suited as a railway station. St John’s of course hated it and even set up a secret society that demanded a red brick be stolen from Keble to qualify for membership. Greater status was given to members who provided a rarer cream brick. The intention was to cause the college to crumble – time no object. The rivalry between the two colleges remains. Four Quadrangles and attractive gardens The college consists of four traditional quads: Pusey, Liddon, Haywood and Newman, along with gardens that have recently had a major ‘make over’. Butterfield had not included any plantings on his original drawings, believing they would be a distraction from his carefully constructed work. However time and his fading influence finally gave way to the, not surprising desire, to add a little greenery to the boarders. A number of significant modern additions have come from cutting edge architects including Rick Mather. Michelle Obama perseverance to attain a higher education, a concept foreign in her family, shows the dedication and determination a leader must have. As a leader, it is imperative that once you establish a mission or purpose, that you, as well as your team members, worked to accomplish that goal. Because of her perseverance, Michelle can be best identified as a pace setter, innovative and charismatic leader because through the various projects she undertook as her role of First Lady, she influences people through personality, inspires passion and the need to be active in one s own community. For example, this can be seen in her role as Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies where she mobilized youths and community to get active and set fundraising records for the organization that still stood 12 years after she left. Michelle influences people through her own success. Having attended Harvard Law, becoming a top attorney and later the first African American First Lady, she has influenced youths across the nation to believe that anything is possible, so long as they have faith. • 22. Alienation In Ousmane Sembene s Black Girl Written and directed by Ousmane Sembene, a novelist turned filmmaker, Black Girl tells the story of a young African woman named Diouana who leaves her home in Senegal with her French employer, hopeful the work and opportunities offered by France will lead her to an improved life. What begins as an optimistic journey soon reveals itself a grand disappointment as Diouana realises her role as the children s caretaker has morphed into that of a maid and France reveals itself to be a prison rather than a liberation. Between cooking, cleaning, taking care of the children and enduring constant disrespect from her employer and their friends, Diouana s hopeful nature is dulled as she starts feeling the weight of her isolation and alienation. Through the use of his carefully chosen and curated settings, Sembene comments on the questions of postcolonial identity and displacement, offering to his audience Diouana s journey as an example of the inner turmoil of defining African identity while still under the influence of colonialism. Sembene uses settings, and the contrast between his settings, to emphasises the process of alienation Diouana goes through during the film. She is trying to pinpoint her place in the world and, by leaving her country, finds herself cultureless and restrained. It is evident in the contrast between the scenes taking place in France and the flashbacks in Dakar that by moving to France, Diouana loses a part of herself. Overall I think that those who did not turn off their cameras did something positive because we would not see so much about the attacks or ever forget them with this much visual coverage of it. I think that the events of 9/11 made a huge impact on those around that survived. In my opinion, I think that I would have felt so unbearable helpless in a situation like this. • 36. The Ways We Lie By Stephanie Ericsson Lying: it s something everyone is guilty of. Whether they be big or small, lies are everywhere. We live in a society full of lies, so we take the consequences of lying with a grain of salt. There s no doubt about it; lying can be dangerous. Therefore, we should be more wary of our lies and their consequences. Lies can be detrimental and do have the potential to change society for the worse. Lying is a common habit that everyone has had experiences with. I have lied and have been lied to numerous times. Everyone has. However, not everyone exposed to a certain lie is aware of it s true power. In her essay The Ways We Lie , Stephanie Ericsson criticizes our bad habit of lying. She explains many different types of lies and even gives examples to show how harmful they can be as our acceptance of lies becomes a cultural cancer that eventually shrouds and reorders reality until moral garbage becomes invisible to us as water is to a fish (128). If everyone told lies, no one would be able to draw the line between fake and real. Today, we can still tell when someone is lying most of the time. However, if we were to be raised in a society where lying was more prevalent than being honest, it wouldn t be as obvious. For instance, in the children s story The Boy Who Cried Wolf, the main character lies too many times about when he sees a wolf, so when there actually is a wolf, no one believes him. If he was more careful with his lies, others would be able to tell he wasn t lying and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This interaction could be of any nature, but in today s world when English is undoubtedly the universal language, external factors play a pivotal role in English language s evolution. Therefore, it would be imperative to look at the influences of these factors on the English language. The English language of today reflects many centuries of development (Naomi 24). The political and social events that have in the course of English history so profoundly affected the English people in their national life have generally had a recognizable effect on their language. The Christianizing of Britain brought England into contact with Latin civilization and made significant additions to our vocabulary. The Scandinavian invasions resulted in a considerable mixture of the two races and their languages. The Norman Conquest made English for two centuries the language mainly of the lower classes, while the nobles and those associated with them used French on almost all occasions (Baugh 2). And when English once more regained supremacy as the language of all elements of the population, it greatly changed in both form and vocabulary from what it had been in the 11th century. ... • 39. Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Founded by SГёren Kierkegaard, existentialism is a philosophy concerning why life exists and the meaning behind it. It emphasizes how there is no set purpose in life, and the humans just merely exist in the world. A big idea behind existentialism is that existence precedes essence. After World War II, existentialismgained popularity in Europe with it appearing in many works of literature. In the film Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the main characters of the film contemplate the meaning behind life throughout the movie, especially during their exchange about death in a box. Similarly, in Shakespeare s Hamlet, the main character questions life and death in his famous To be or not to be speech. Both of these works of literature seem... Hamlet seems to think that dying ends all the suffering and heartache of living. Hamlet says, To die, to sleep / No more and by a sleep to say we end / The heartache (Shakespeare III, i, 68 70). To him, death is freedom. This is actually very similar to the existentialism, as they view death as nothingness and freedom. Furthermore, Hamlet fears death because of the uncertain. He says, But that the dread of something after death, / The undiscovered country from whose bourn / . . . Thus conscience does make cowards of us all (Shakespeare III, i, 86 87 and 91). The unknown scares Hamlet. This view is quite a departure from existentialism. Existentialists believe that death is nothingness not unknown like Hamlet. Moreover, in the end of Hamlet s speech, he mentions how a well thought out plan may be overthought causing the action not to happen. Hamlet seems to believe that one should act quickly and not overthink. This seems contrary to existentialism. Existentialists believe in freedom of choice; however, they believe that choices have a huge impact. Therefore, they should be well thought out and not carried out rashly. In this sense, Hamlet does not seem to follow the existentialist viewpoint. Hamlet s To be or not to be speech in the play allows the readers to see his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think one of the biggest reasons why Weight Watchers has been able to stick around is because of their weekly meetings. During those weekly members talk about their weight loss goals, share eating tips, exercise, and they also discuss behavioral changes that are necessary to attaining a healthier lifestyle. On pages 671 682 is an article titled The Replication of DNA in Escherichia Coli . Meselson and Stahl conducted an experiment to understand how DNA self replicates by the use of Bacterial transformation to clone parental DNA. In the article, Meselson and Stahl investigate the distribution between the parental and daughter DNA molecules. This is achieved by the use of Radio Isotopic labelling. Uniform Isotopic N15 was grown in E.coli consisting of N14 medium to observe the distribution of N15 DNA macromolecules. Within the article, the authors also discuss the problems they faced during the investigation and how significant Watsons and Cricks Double helix suggests how DNA self replicates. What is DNA? The discovery of the structure of DNA has always been associated with Watson and Crick. Their double helix structure, which they developed in 1983, has been used as a model to understand how DNA self replicates (Karp, 2009). The structure of DNA is made up of covalent bonds between 4 unique nucleotide bases. These bases bind together via complementary base pairing, therefore allowing Adenine to only bind with Thymine, and Cytosine with Guanine (Penn State, Ebery College of Science, 2016). The use of covalent bonds makes the structure strongly bound like a zipper. However, just like a zipper, it can easily open up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(8 + 16 marks) Social exchange theory (SET), an economic theory, assumes that relationship behaviour is based on a series of exchanges with individuals attempting to maximise their profits based on their rewards and costs. Rewards include being cared for, companionship, and sharing of household chores; costs include effort and financial investment. Rewards minus costs leaves profit, and a person will be more attracted towards a relationship with greater potential profit. A comparison level (CL), a standard against which present and potential relationships are judged, is formed. Our CL is a product of our experiences in other relationships with our general views... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Aronson and Under (1965) asked participants to evaluate a number of different potential relationships. They found that participants preferred relationships that showed the potential for an increase in profit rather than the actual size of the profit. Hence, when making an evaluation of the attractiveness of a potential relationship, an individual s evaluation may look at longer term outcomes. This places the central point of profit size in question. Furthermore, SET may be culturally biased, as the language used reflects a culture in which economic values are central. Hence, SET would seem appropriate for cultures where self gain is important to individuals, i.e. individualist societies. However, for collectivist cultures, where the gain for an individual s wider community is regarded as paramount, SET s central factor of self gain seems far less relevant. Hence, SET is unlikely to be appropriate for collectivist cultures. Even with individualist cultures, SET may only be appropriate for short term relationships. In the very beginning of the film, Kapadia shows a home movie of Amy singing happy birthday to one of her close friends who was interviewed later in the film. This scene is important in the symbol of music and the transition into the story of Amy s rise to success because this scene sets the stage for Amy s career and start to becoming a Grammy winning jazz singer. I also found this scene to important because this scene depicts the time in Amy s life when she found music to be happy and enjoyable before entering her career. The rhetorical device of pathos as a mean to describe the symbol of music can be seen later in the beginning of the documentary. The director shows scenes of Amy when she was first starting out in the music industry. In one of these scenes, the director uses a voiceover of Amy when she describes the moment in her life when her father left her mother.
