Self Assessment Of The Classroom Essay
Self Assessment in the Classroom
Self Assessment is process by which students monitor and evaluate the quality of their thinking and
behavior when learning and then identify actions that could potentially improve their understanding
and skills. Furthermore, self assessment occurs when students check the work they ve accomplished
and identify discrepancies between current and desired performance (McMillan Hearn, 2008). Self
assessments can be used by the student and the teacher; a student would use it as a way to know if
they understand the information the teacher taught; the teacher can use self assessment in order to
better the course or teaching techniques. When students self assess their performance, it is important
that we know what techniques to apply and with effectiveness. I will be exploring how students self
assess their work, and how you can encourage better self assessment technique. This paper will also
review studies that relate to self assessment and what has been done to enhance their use. In all studies
used, only English as a first language students and students that are not going through special
education were able to participate in the study. This method of assessment can be integrated into
various classroom activities as well as traditional assessments. The ability to self assess one s learning
will encourage independence as a student, where you do not to rely on the criticism of others in order
to improve yourself.

Research Paper On Sea Pens
Sea Pens
Description
Sea pens are colonies of polyps( polyps: animals that have a fixed base, column like body, with mouth
and tentacles.). Each polyps resembles a feathery quill. Sea pens are bilateral (bilateral: being able to
divide into even halves). There is no typical weight for sea pens, but the height ranges from 2 inches
to 6 feet. Sea pens have various colors. Their colors range from dark orange, yellow, and white.
Habitat
Sea pens are octocoral, which means they are a type of soft coral. Like any other coral sea pens like to
live on sandy or muddy surfaces. Sea pens are generally located on the gulf of Alaska to Southern
California. The sea pens biome varies. Some sea pens live in intertidal zones while others live in the

How Bernanke Deals With The Financial Crisis And The...
First of all, before reading this book, I did some research of Ben Bernanke, who is the writer of this
book. Bernanke is not only the former Fed Chairman but also a great and knowledgeable economist.
President Obama described him as epitome of clam . However, his career has huge merit, also has
artificial wrong, merit half and half. The Wall Street Journal commented that after suffering a financial
crisis which he has never been through, the Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke lead United States avoid
involving into a devastating panic. After five years, he used uncustomary policy to help United States
to achieve economic recovery; however, the result is frustrating. He left behind the legacy which
mingled with failure, fearless, persistent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Bernanke admonished investors by the book that even though banking regulation and
supervision protect investors as always, if some particular events or financial crisis happened, like
housing bubble and mortgage markets crisis, either or both of these two system work. The example in
the book is booming house prices in 2000s. After the sharply increasing of housing prices, risky
mortgage lending likes subprime lending trouble began surfacing in 2006 and 2007. The risky
mortgage comes with more demand for housing, which will again push the housing prices higher and
higher, reinforcing a vicious cycle. As a result, because of the nominate housing price is much higher
than the real price, the careful lenders who have good credit step out the market, the rest of borrowers
are subprime lenders, some borrowers were defaulting on loan after making only a few, or even no,
payments. (318) In the book, Bernanke conceded that Fed responded the trouble slowly and
cautiously. When Board in Washington determined to make supervision of bank more centralized, he
still overconfidently believe that Reserve Bank staff were better informed about condition in their
districts. Another Bernanke s conceit is that the financial regulatory system was not as stable and
comprehensive as he thought before the financial crisis. In

Mckinsey 7s Framework
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McKinsey_7S_Framework The McKinsey 7S Framework is a
management model developed by well known business consultants Waterman and Peters (who also
developed the MBWA Management By Walking Around motif, and authored In Search of Excellence )
in the 1980s. This was a strategic vision for groups, to include businesses, business units, and teams.
The 7S are structure, strategy, systems, skills, style, staff and shared values. The model is most often
used as a tool to assess and monitor changes in the internal situation of an organisation. The model is
based on the theory that, for an organization to perform well, these seven elements need to be aligned
and mutually reinforcing. So, the model can be used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the authors worked as consultants at McKinsey and Company; in the 1980s, they used the
model to analyse over 70 large organisations. The McKinsey 7S Framework was created as a
recognisable and easily remembered model in business. The seven variables, which the authors term
levers , all begin with the letter S : Figure 1: McKinsey s 7S Model These seven variables include
structure, strategy, systems, skills, style, staff and shared values. Structure is defined as the skeleton of
the organisation or the organisational chart. The authors describe strategy as the plan or course of
action in allocating resources to achieve identified goals over time. The systems are the routine
processes and procedures followed within the organisation. Staff are described in terms of personnel
categories within the organisation (e.g. engineers), whereas the skills variable refers to the capabilities
of the staff within the organisation as a whole. The way in which key managers behave in achieving
organisational goals is considered to be the style variable; this variable is thought to encompass the
cultural style of the organisation. The shared values variable, originally termed superordinate goals,
refers to the significant meanings or guiding concepts that organisational members share (Peters and
Waterman, 1982). The shape of

Understanding Bronfenbrenner s Social Ecology Model of...
Abstract A number of important sociological and psychological models track the individual across the
lifespan, exploring how different aspects of life ebb and flow in importance as an individual grows
older. Other models focus on how an individual interacts with the microcosm of their daily lives and
how this in turn affects their interaction with all of the broader cycles of their life. This paper explores
the process of grieving and healing experience by a 56 year old woman who has just lost her husband
of 30 years through the lens of Bronfenbrenner s social ecology model. This model allows for a multi
dimensional analysis of change across both time and psychosocial space. Healing after Loss Most
women will outlive their husbands or male partners. This fact arises from actuarial mathematics:
Women tend to live longer than men. The actuarial facts are exaggerated by the fact that women tend
to marry (or partner with) men who are older than they are, a trend that reflects cultural mores and
economic dictates. Thus the profile of grief described below must be acknowledged as a common one,
a fact that itself is relevant to the experience. Women know that they are likely to face a certain
number of years (even, perhaps, decades) and this foreknowledge helps mitigate the pain of the
experience, although of course it does not allow one to avoid the grief. Losses that we do not expect or
that run counter to our sense of how the world should work can be the hardest to

Explain Why I Want A Career In Health Care Essay
Why I want a career in health care
My passion for healthcare cultivated because of my family. Throughout my childhood and adolescent
years, I got an opportunity to volunteer helping around the nursing home where my mother worked as
a licensed practical nurse. Looking back, on those experiences influenced my entire career in so many
diverse ways. Learning ample amounts of wisdom from various honorable people. As a child I was
always trying to help my mother, grandmother, aunts, my church take care of others in our family and
the community. Once I graduated from high school I did not know if I was prepared for college.
Likewise, I was not sure if I wanted to become a registered nurse and follow my mother s footsteps.
However, I did attend a technical training school and became a certified nursing assistant in 2005.
During my five year gap year, I conducted research on several different areas and aspects of
healthcare. Over the course of ten years I have had the opportunity to experience different segments of
healthcare. From the different settings of healthcare, exploring different business opportunities offered
in healthcare, and educational and technical skill trainings. These three topics really influenced my
decision to pursue a healthcare career.
First, I would like to share different settings that I have had an opportunity to work in. Right out of my
technical school I was able to land a job in a nursing home. I have received an abundance of trainings
from this type

Sawtooth Oak Case Study
The sawtooth oak (Quercus acutissima) is in the red oak family. Native to Asia, it is noted for its fast
growth (two feet per year) and early acorn production. The first acorns are routinely produced in five
to 10 years versus the 25 or 30 years it usually takes native oaks to start producing acorns. The acorns
are large and dropped in September or early October. The sawtooth is also noted for its consistent
annual production and not being as subject to frosts or poor crops which often limit white oak
production. Although the red oak group has a reputation for being less palatable (containing more
tannic acid) than the white oak group, the sawtooth does not. Years ago, I conducted controlled

It can be grown on strip mined land, where favorable moisture is present and pH is above 5.0.
Sawtooth oaks need full sun to produce acorns. One year seedlings should be planted 25 to 30 feet
apart for maximum acorn production. Don Carter, a former Georgia Department of Natural Resources
board member, has been planting sawtooth oaks for 20 years. He reports that the commonly
recommended spacing of 20 by 20 feet is too close and will require a thinning at 10 to 15 years. There
should be at least 15 trees per planting for effective wind pollination. Site preparation is important and
consists of clearing vegetation from an area at least three feet in diameter around the newly planted
seedlings. Don t plant sawtooth in fescue sod without using glyphosate to kill the fescue. This is a sure
way to bonsai the tree. Dig a large hole and plant seedlings at the same depth as at the nursery. At the
bottom of the hole, apply a handful of 10 10 10 fertilizer, covering the pellets with three inches of soil.

Under Armour Is The Third Biggest Sportswear Brand Of The...
Problem Identification: Under Armour is the second biggest sportswear brand in the US losing the first
place to Nike. It is a great accomplishment for Under Armour considering the fact that the company
was established in 1996. Nevertheless, Under Armour does not have a well known name so that
people will actually consider it to have a real possibility to create a threat to Nike and surpass them at
some point. Under Armour faces many competitors besides Nike, like Adidas, Reebok, and Puma.
While Under Armour makes exceptional products that are of similar quality, what makes Nike so
much stronger of a company? A main problem identified was that Under Armour does not have much
international revenue compared to its counterpart Nike, and Under Armour does not try to send a
message with their clothes. They just want to sell them. In fact, according to 247wallst.com, Nike had
an international revenue quarter of about $7 billion while Under Armour saw a quarterly revenue of
$610 million. External Environment: One of the strongest sides of Under Armour is its outstanding
technological development. Under Armour has made many strides in technology of their products. For
example, Under Armour has begun using a waterproof and water resistant material. One of the most
notable major changes in technology Under Armour is working on is the use of a touch screen in the
arm of a sleeve for instant access to information, whether it is heart rate monitor or simply social
media and music. The

Have you ever been to Myrtle Beach during jellyfish season? It is terrible. When you get within about

grandma whispered angrily at my mom. This was the closest my grandma had been to the lifeguard, so
she was really happy. After he cleaned my knee, I went back up to the hotel room. I could not shower

Gasoline Engines As A Diesel Engines
Introduction There are many advantages and disadvantages to gasoline engines as well as diesel
engines in both light trucks and cars. The goal of this report is to inform the public on the many pros
and cons of the vehicle buying world. This report will discuss the three main topics of discussion
when choosing between a gasoline and a diesel engine in a vehicle. The people of the United States
purchased 1,507,339 vehicles in the year 2014 alone. Now, 829,185 of those vehicles were considered
light trucks and the remaining 678,154 vehicles were cars. A large portion of these vehicles are power
by a diesel motor as compared to a gas or hybrid motors in the other vehicles. Traditionally diesel
engines are thought of as being used for large tractor trailer trucks, heavy duty equipment, and other
large commercial vehicles. However, in recent years there has been a shift from the industrial world
only to a more balanced market of diesel vehicles for everyday use. The three main criteria on which
vehicles are judged are as follows. First, in today s day and age what is looked at is the efficiency,
Fuel Efficiency. Secondly, is the durability and dependability of the vehicle, will this car or truck last,
can this vehicle drive across country and not worry about it dying? Lastly, the report will talk about
the affordability of the vehicle, is it better to pay less initially, will paying more initially be a better
investment for the long run?

Why Building Self Confidence Is Vital
Confidence. Some are born with it, some have to grind for it, and others are unaware on how to obtain
it. It is something either one has or lacks, but can always be accomplished over time. Self confidence
can loosely be defined as the capability of a person to have assurance in his or her aptitudes and
capability. Self confidence is the key to triumph, or the first step to success and happiness. Possessing
self confidence can help to give wings to soar and develop a high level of passion, joy, optimism and
understanding within the individual. It gives the credence that one can challenge the world and pave a
path for one s self that will lead them to their visions and aspirations. This describes exactly why
building self confidence is vital and how crucial self confidence is to one s persona. Joy, courage and
self confidence go hand in hand. Courage, in the present perspective, refers to the capability of being
able to have faith despite the opposition or complications involved. Fear is the primary adversary of
self confidence and fulfilment. With courage, you overcome all limitations and doubts to follow your
accomplished targets. This predictably increases the likelihood of your success. Self confidence and
courage give the control to write one s own destiny. Helen Keller said, Optimism is the faith that leads
to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.
The denotation of confidence is the belief in oneself and one s powers or abilities. Everybody is

Absolutism And The Renaissance The Reformation
The Renaissance is known as a turning point in the history and produced essential changes in all areas
of European society and knowledge. During this time period there was a newfound interest in
philosophy and the importance of understanding the world. Scholars of this time looked at Greek and
Roman ideas about the world, as well as expanding on the idea of humanism and the shift away from
the church. The increase of humanism put more emphasis on the state and the individual and less
emphasis on the clergy. Challenges to Church authority through the Renaissance and Scientific
Revolution helped to inspire the Reformation, which we see with Martin Luther s 95 theses.
Renaissance art and architecture additionally brought vibrancy to churches throughout ... Show more

This expansion in turn played a major role in the many other transformations social, political, and
cultural of the early modern age. The Renaissance renewed interest in classical culture, which led to
far reaching changes in art, learning, and views of the world. This era led to the rediscovery of the idea
of Greek city states, the direct democracy, arts, literature and philosophy. The idea of natural law and
the ideal man were reinvented and Plato s book The Republic developed this idea that reason was
better than power, which is ironic when we look at the age of absolutism. Before the Age of
Absolutism and after the Renaissance we had the Roman Empire, which was a republic and had
separate branches of government with senate. Between the Renaissance and the Age of Absolutism,
there was a rise of university literacy, a movement away from one central church and authority, and
increase in scientific inquiry and independence of thought and a movement towards child centered
education. These two eras had many positive contributions to western civilization, as well as those that
hurt civilization. Without the Renaissance and the shifting to an absolute monarchy, our society and
government would be vastly

Selfishness Is Being Selfish
A person who does a good deed for the sake of one s gratification, a person who puts personal
obligations before others, and a person who lacks the value of human life, is a person whose forehead
is stamped with a single word: selfish. Selfishness may present itself in times of danger, especially
when the decision comes to saving oneself or saving another along the way. Twenty first century
society dictates that when one is in a situation, such as being in a burning building, they are morally
obligated to do what is seen as right. As the fire engulfs the building from all sides, deep red flames
can be seen. The fire isn t only burning, but it s burning with such intensity like the fearsome fire
breathing mythological creature, Chimera. The Chimera, a hybrid of a lion, goat, and snake, is viewed
with fear or intrigue, similar to selfishness itself, so this begs the question; is selfishness ultimately
immoral, or can it be ethical?
In Examined Life, philosopher Slavoj Zizek discusses the trait that most human beings possess: being
selfish. As the documentary begins, Zizek can be seen scouring a junkyard, disclosing his philosophy
on ecology. As stated by Zizek, ecology addresses genuine problems that society is aware of but
continues to turn a blind eye. Furthermore, Zizek dives into the misconception that people continue to
make about waste and trash; people believe that waste and trash are one in the same, however, waste
disappears, but trash doesn t. While digging around

Childhood Sunglasses
Quality Sunglasses for Kids
Wearing glasses can be the ultimate fashion accessory when you choose the right pair to suit you and
the kind of clothes you wear most. Children may not be as interested as adults are in the fashion aspect
of sunglasses. But because kids spend much more time outdoors than most adults one of the most
important factors when to choosing sunglasses is protection. Being assured that one s eyes are
protected from the sun s ultra violet rays is essential. These rays can cause damage to the eyes and are
linked to many different types of eye disease, so they should be avoided at all costs through the use of
high quality kids sunglasses.

It s always better to consult an optician, but as long as your optician certifies that the lenses block 100

Essay on Exploring Time Travel
An essential requirement for the possibility of time travel is the presumption that future and past were
somehow real. But according to one popular view only the present is real, and to suppose that the past
or future are also real is to suppose that the past and the future are also present a contradiction.
According to this sort of Heraclitean metaphysical conception, the future is genuinely open: there is
no realm of determinate future fact, no denizens of the future to identify or talk about, though of
course in the fullness of time there will be. Travel to the future on this view would be ruled out
because there is simply nowhere to go.
The past, though, is spoken of as fixed and determinate and not subject to change. ... Show more

(Ayer 1956, p. 158).
It is well known that chronological discrepancies arise in connection with the special and general
theories of relativity, quite independently of the question of time travel. But relativistic chronological
discrepancies are benign in way that time travel discrepancies are not. What would count as a case of
travelling into the past? We can conceive that after a certain time having experiences which are
exactly like those of 1920. It is just this kind of thought experiment that makes time travel
conceivable. But we would not be compelled to treat such experiences as decisive evidence of having
traveled into the past. They might be taken as evidence of serious cognitive disorder, for example.
David Lewis has argued that time travel stories are perfectly coherent and it is instructive to examine
his defense of the possibility of time travel. Lewis does not reject, but accept the reality of future and
past. The world we live in, according to Lewis, is a Parmenidean world: a four dimensional manifold
of events and the occupants of the world are four dimensional aggregates of stages timelike streaks

Planetary Nebulae Clouds
Nebula or the plural nebulae is derived from the Latin word for cloud(s), and is a term traditionally
used by astronomers to describe the vast gaseous structures which exist throughout the universe.
Nebulae now have been divided into five major categories due to their reflective and observational
characteristics, these being emission nebulae, reflection nebulae, dark nebulae, supernova remnants
and planetary nebulae.
In fact, the term planetary nebula is a misnomer as they have nothing to do with planets or planetary
systems as the name was derived by eighteenth century astronomers, William Herschel et al, who due
to the restrictions of observational technology available at that time i.e. small telescopes first thought
they either looked like the gas giant planets of our solar system or stars forming new planetary
systems.
Planetary nebulae are often given the connotation PN or PNe for the plural by astronomers and exhibit
the final stage of a star s life whose initial size is approximately between 1 and 8 solar masses, where
the unused gases and elements left from nuclear fusion are blown away from the remaining core
producing a luminous colourful halo around it. These phenomena can be very short lived in
astronomical terms, possibly just tens of thousands of years.
To reach this final stage of existence all stars go through the same accepted pattern of evolution,
except in the case for large mass stars who have much shorter lives due to burning their hydrogen fuel

Reflection Paper Kent State University
In the beginning of my endeavor at Kent State University, it was a hard adjustment for me at first but
now that I am involved in many activities I feel as if I found the place for me. At first it was hard for
me to leave my home and move in here to call it my new home, but I knew my roommate it made it
easier. When I came into this whole process of what people call a new start I at first thought I wouldn t
like my roommate because everyone says, don t room with someone you know so I came into it being
a little pessimistic and found all the flaws immediately about her and never focused on the good but
turns out, I love my roommate and we both got involved in many different activities together. We are
the same person and I wouldn t be happier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do not put your friends or hanging out with people over your academic studies, a few of my friends
did that and it did not end well for them. I would also tell the incoming freshman to make sure that
they love the major they are pursuing and if they don t it isn t a big deal to change it. Being a freshman
it is intimidating definitely seeing all of the older people with their life all figured out, but it will all
workout in the end and be worth it. I can personally say that my first semester of college did not end
the way that I planned on it going, but it s a lesson learned and I am fixing my mistakes and starting
fresh 2nd semester. A few of my goals that I would like to accomplish for next semester are to get a
3.5 gpa, to figure out the path and career I would like to go down, and to be successful with whatever I
do. I believe that these are all good goals because they all lead to success. Success to me is a big thing,
the way I can achieve my other two goals is by being successful, if I study hard, go to class and
complete all the tasks given to me then I will get good grades and be able to find the career that I want
to have when I am older and get on the right track. I believe that Kent State University has all the
supplies that I need to be successful in my life and I honestly could not be happier with the university
that I

Psychics And The Lottery Essay
Psychics and the Lottery
There s a controversial saying that if psychics really have the ability to predict the future, then why
don t they win the lottery? Well, in fact, psychics do win the lottery all the time. When you do your
research there are plenty of stories of self proclaimed psychics who won the lottery. There are news
stories about them and there are even some lottery winners who claimed to receive their winning
numbers from psychics and shamans.
Of course, you shouldn t trust certain television psychics who just want to milk the public for money.
These people are straight up liars or they will analyze and say things that anybody can see in a person.
Some of these psychics use astrology predictions to help them get an angle on a person, but when it
comes to real predictions they re clueless. However, there are psychics who are truly about that life.
They can predict the future and it takes them a little bit of time to do it. These psychics are low key
and they don t do it for money. They have a spiritual gift and want to share it with people. There is a
rule in the real psychic community that says you can t use your powers for personal gain, and this is
the reason why many real psychics don t typically play the lottery. But there are some who receive
messages from the Universe to play the lottery and they win. When they ... Show more content on

Approaches to Organisation and Management
2
APPROACHES TO ORGANISATION AND
MANAGEMENT
Organisational behaviour is a discursive subject and much has been written about it. The study of
organisations and management has therefore to proceed on a broad front. It is the comparative study of
the different approaches that will yield benefits to the manager. The study of organisations, their
structure and management is important for the manager. Identification of major trends in management
and organisational behaviour, and the work of leading writers, provide a perspective on concepts and
ideas discussed in more detail in other chapters.

This is a surprising oversight when you consider that many of his plays deal with issues of personnel
management and organizational behavior.5
However, the systematic development of management thinking is viewed, generally, as dating from
the end of the nineteenth century with the emergence of large industrial organ isations and the ensuing
problems associated with their structure and management.6 In order to help identify main trends in the
development of organisational behaviour and management theory, it is usual to categorise the work of
writers into various approaches , based on their views of organisations, their structure and
management. Although a rather simplistic process, it does provide a framework in which to help direct

Homeschooling Vs. Private Schools
Education, after all, is a process intended to produce a product. So we have to ask ourselves: What sort
of product is being produced by the current system? (Prose 99). Education is something every parent
wants for their child, but many parents are starting to question modern days public and private school
systems. Nowadays, there are many educational options for students. Homeschooling is an
increasingly popular alternative to public and private schools. Homeschooling has many advantages
and disadvantages, but homeschooling is an option for students to benefit themselves individually.
Reasons for homeschooling, over attending public or private school, vary greatly. Teyle Carbajal, a
homeschooled student in Midland Texas, began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with reasons one might choose homeschooling, there are deeper benefits that can enhance a
student s education. One thing homeschooled students do not have are classmates. In a public or
private school there are around twenty five to thirty five kids in one class room. A large amount of
students of all different paces which can cause certain student s education to suffer. Ralph Waldo
Emerson, a well accomplished essayist, gave a speech to college graduates that would soon be
teaching. Emerson said to them, You have to work for large classes instead of individuals; you must
lower your flag and reef your sails to wait for the dull sailors... (Emerson 105). By holding back a
class for slow learners, students who learn quicker loose interest. As a result of lost interest, such
students start receiving poor grades. A homeschooled student has no classmates to hold them back
from learning. On the other hand, if a student grasps concepts slower than most, homeschooling offers
more individualized help. A homeschooled student has one teacher to their self or to share with any
siblings, but not thirty four completely different individuals. Carbajal said If I need any help I can
spend as much time as I need... (Carbajal). Carbajal has an advantage over public school students. She
is the only student the teacher must care about, therefore, Carbajal s teacher will spend as much time
needed to help her understand something fully.

2012 Presidential Campaign Analysis
Improving the 2016 Presidential Campaign with U.K. Influence
Another four years has passed and it s time for another United States Presidential election and the
campaigning that precedes it. The campaigning starts well in excess of a year with the candidates
campaigning to be elected by their parties in the primaries and then continues right to the run up into
November for the actual voting for president. All along the way the public are bombarded with slander
campaigns on the television, the newspapers, billboards along the roads, and on the radio by the
political parties, super pacs, and the candidates themselves. The campaigns and the way they are run

The United States presidential campaign and the primary election leading up to it showcases the

Transhumanism And Open Bionics
Freddie Mercury once asked, with the voice of a whistling rocket, Who wants to live forever? [1]. This
song was written for the sci fi action film Highlander (1986), the story of immortal swordsmen
fighting in New York City [2]. However, this is a work of fiction and fantasy. To truly surpass the
bounds of humanity, to live potentially live forever, we must look to science and technology. Research
into prosthetic bodies and implants provides the scaffolding for controlled evolution. Nevertheless,
such enhancements are not amoral. We must examine the implications of human enhancement before
taking our first steps into Transhumanism.

Calico project researches solutions for aging, which is seen as a disease and threat to humanity [11].
While Calico is more theoretical than practical its findings are not publicly disclosed its motive and
potential outcomes are laden with age defying insight [11]. Its ambitions stop short of immortality, but

Animal Rights Against Animals
magine eating a delicious piece of bacon with the fat juice dripping off while biting into the bacon, it
crunches. Now imagine the pig that the bacon came from. An innocent creature now has been shocked
with electric prods, had its throat cut, and has bled out to death. Pigs are not the only creatures to
suffer such a despicable death. Animals like sheep, cows, chickens, and goats are slaughtered for their
meat. The animals are all butchered in a place called a slaughterhouse. Slaughterhouses are horrible
places where humans believe they have the right to treat animals any way they want as long as they
get the meat they need. People who eat meat need to understand what happens to an animal before it
winds up on a plate.Animals can not defend themselves against humans. Therefore, someone else
must defend the animals. Slaughterhouses must be stopped.
Slaughterhouses are the cheapest ways for humans to get meat. Rather than paying large sums of
money to put the animals down humanely, they are just murdered. Animals are separated in
slaughterhouses from their families after being with them for weeks. Imagine one never getting to
know his mother, then being ripped away from their child, while trying to manage to survive.Animals
should have rights just like humans do. Animals hearts beat just like any human s.If animals have to
be raised and die, they should not suffer. Most animal s natural instincts are to protect their children,

Public Administration And The Public Sector
Old Public Administration was created to answer the questions to many unanswered problems.
President Woodrow Wilson said it was harder to run a constitution than to frame it because of the
difficult administrative tasks had to deal with. Sure enough, he was not the only person who felt that
way. President Wilson believed that in order to run an effective government, ideas from the private
sector should be incorporated into the public sector. He even went as far as to give input on how the
government would be able to implement ideas from the private sector to the public sector. And that is
to limit what hierarchical organization can do. Wilson believed that those in power would not have
control of creating the policy, but they will have a handle on how the policy is implemented. Two
themes stood out around the topic of Public Administration the distinction between policy and
administration, and the accountability of elected individuals who are a part of an organization. The
second theme was around the use of structures and strategies to ensure that management work
efficiency.
Many had much to say when it came Wilson s statement that Policy and Administration should be
separate entities. A few people argued that policy and administration could not be separated because
policy and administration depend on one another to work effectively. Frederick Taylor, a theorist
believed that in order to enforce efficiency within an organization, a scientific management

  • 2. Self Assessment Of The Classroom Essay Self Assessment in the Classroom Self Assessment is process by which students monitor and evaluate the quality of their thinking and behavior when learning and then identify actions that could potentially improve their understanding and skills. Furthermore, self assessment occurs when students check the work they ve accomplished and identify discrepancies between current and desired performance (McMillan Hearn, 2008). Self assessments can be used by the student and the teacher; a student would use it as a way to know if they understand the information the teacher taught; the teacher can use self assessment in order to better the course or teaching techniques. When students self assess their performance, it is important that we know what techniques to apply and with effectiveness. I will be exploring how students self assess their work, and how you can encourage better self assessment technique. This paper will also review studies that relate to self assessment and what has been done to enhance their use. In all studies used, only English as a first language students and students that are not going through special education were able to participate in the study. This method of assessment can be integrated into various classroom activities as well as traditional assessments. The ability to self assess one s learning will encourage independence as a student, where you do not to rely on the criticism of others in order to improve yourself. It has been common to see ... • 4. How Bernanke Deals With The Financial Crisis And The... First of all, before reading this book, I did some research of Ben Bernanke, who is the writer of this book. Bernanke is not only the former Fed Chairman but also a great and knowledgeable economist. President Obama described him as epitome of clam . However, his career has huge merit, also has artificial wrong, merit half and half. The Wall Street Journal commented that after suffering a financial crisis which he has never been through, the Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke lead United States avoid involving into a devastating panic. After five years, he used uncustomary policy to help United States to achieve economic recovery; however, the result is frustrating. He left behind the legacy which mingled with failure, fearless, persistent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Bernanke admonished investors by the book that even though banking regulation and supervision protect investors as always, if some particular events or financial crisis happened, like housing bubble and mortgage markets crisis, either or both of these two system work. The example in the book is booming house prices in 2000s. After the sharply increasing of housing prices, risky mortgage lending likes subprime lending trouble began surfacing in 2006 and 2007. The risky mortgage comes with more demand for housing, which will again push the housing prices higher and higher, reinforcing a vicious cycle. As a result, because of the nominate housing price is much higher than the real price, the careful lenders who have good credit step out the market, the rest of borrowers are subprime lenders, some borrowers were defaulting on loan after making only a few, or even no, payments. (318) In the book, Bernanke conceded that Fed responded the trouble slowly and cautiously. When Board in Washington determined to make supervision of bank more centralized, he still overconfidently believe that Reserve Bank staff were better informed about condition in their districts. Another Bernanke s conceit is that the financial regulatory system was not as stable and comprehensive as he thought before the financial crisis. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mckinsey 7s Framework http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McKinsey_7S_Framework The McKinsey 7S Framework is a management model developed by well known business consultants Waterman and Peters (who also developed the MBWA Management By Walking Around motif, and authored In Search of Excellence ) in the 1980s. This was a strategic vision for groups, to include businesses, business units, and teams. The 7S are structure, strategy, systems, skills, style, staff and shared values. The model is most often used as a tool to assess and monitor changes in the internal situation of an organisation. The model is based on the theory that, for an organization to perform well, these seven elements need to be aligned and mutually reinforcing. So, the model can be used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of the authors worked as consultants at McKinsey and Company; in the 1980s, they used the model to analyse over 70 large organisations. The McKinsey 7S Framework was created as a recognisable and easily remembered model in business. The seven variables, which the authors term levers , all begin with the letter S : Figure 1: McKinsey s 7S Model These seven variables include structure, strategy, systems, skills, style, staff and shared values. Structure is defined as the skeleton of the organisation or the organisational chart. The authors describe strategy as the plan or course of action in allocating resources to achieve identified goals over time. The systems are the routine processes and procedures followed within the organisation. Staff are described in terms of personnel categories within the organisation (e.g. engineers), whereas the skills variable refers to the capabilities of the staff within the organisation as a whole. The way in which key managers behave in achieving organisational goals is considered to be the style variable; this variable is thought to encompass the cultural style of the organisation. The shared values variable, originally termed superordinate goals, refers to the significant meanings or guiding concepts that organisational members share (Peters and Waterman, 1982). • 6. Understanding Bronfenbrenner s Social Ecology Model of... Abstract A number of important sociological and psychological models track the individual across the lifespan, exploring how different aspects of life ebb and flow in importance as an individual grows older. Other models focus on how an individual interacts with the microcosm of their daily lives and how this in turn affects their interaction with all of the broader cycles of their life. This paper explores the process of grieving and healing experience by a 56 year old woman who has just lost her husband of 30 years through the lens of Bronfenbrenner s social ecology model. This model allows for a multi dimensional analysis of change across both time and psychosocial space. Healing after Loss Most women will outlive their husbands or male partners. This fact arises from actuarial mathematics: Women tend to live longer than men. The actuarial facts are exaggerated by the fact that women tend to marry (or partner with) men who are older than they are, a trend that reflects cultural mores and economic dictates. Thus the profile of grief described below must be acknowledged as a common one, a fact that itself is relevant to the experience. Women know that they are likely to face a certain number of years (even, perhaps, decades) and this foreknowledge helps mitigate the pain of the experience, although of course it does not allow one to avoid the grief. Losses that we do not expect or that run counter to our sense of how the world should work can be the hardest to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, I got an opportunity to volunteer helping around the nursing home where my mother worked as a licensed practical nurse. Looking back, on those experiences influenced my entire career in so many diverse ways. Learning ample amounts of wisdom from various honorable people. As a child I was always trying to help my mother, grandmother, aunts, my church take care of others in our family and the community. Once I graduated from high school I did not know if I was prepared for college. Likewise, I was not sure if I wanted to become a registered nurse and follow my mother s footsteps. However, I did attend a technical training school and became a certified nursing assistant in 2005. During my five year gap year, I conducted research on several different areas and aspects of healthcare. Over the course of ten years I have had the opportunity to experience different segments of healthcare. From the different settings of healthcare, exploring different business opportunities offered in healthcare, and educational and technical skill trainings. These three topics really influenced my decision to pursue a healthcare career. First, I would like to share different settings that I have had an opportunity to work in. • 9. Sawtooth Oak Case Study The sawtooth oak (Quercus acutissima) is in the red oak family. Native to Asia, it is noted for its fast growth (two feet per year) and early acorn production. The first acorns are routinely produced in five to 10 years versus the 25 or 30 years it usually takes native oaks to start producing acorns. The acorns are large and dropped in September or early October. The sawtooth is also noted for its consistent annual production and not being as subject to frosts or poor crops which often limit white oak production. Don Carter, a former Georgia Department of Natural Resources board member, has been planting sawtooth oaks for 20 years. He reports that the commonly recommended spacing of 20 by 20 feet is too close and will require a thinning at 10 to 15 years. There should be at least 15 trees per planting for effective wind pollination. • 10. Under Armour Is The Third Biggest Sportswear Brand Of The... Problem Identification: Under Armour is the second biggest sportswear brand in the US losing the first place to Nike. It is a great accomplishment for Under Armour considering the fact that the company was established in 1996. Nevertheless, Under Armour does not have a well known name so that people will actually consider it to have a real possibility to create a threat to Nike and surpass them at some point. Under Armour faces many competitors besides Nike, like Adidas, Reebok, and Puma. While Under Armour makes exceptional products that are of similar quality, what makes Nike so much stronger of a company? A main problem identified was that Under Armour does not have much international revenue compared to its counterpart Nike, and Under Armour does not try to send a message with their clothes. They just want to sell them. In fact, according to 247wallst.com, Nike had an international revenue quarter of about $7 billion while Under Armour saw a quarterly revenue of $610 million. External Environment: One of the strongest sides of Under Armour is its outstanding technological development. Under Armour has made many strides in technology of their products. For example, Under Armour has begun using a waterproof and water resistant material. One of the most notable major changes in technology Under Armour is working on is the use of a touch screen in the arm of a sleeve for instant access to information, whether it is heart rate monitor or simply social media and music. • 13. Gasoline Engines As A Diesel Engines Introduction There are many advantages and disadvantages to gasoline engines as well as diesel engines in both light trucks and cars. The goal of this report is to inform the public on the many pros and cons of the vehicle buying world. This report will discuss the three main topics of discussion when choosing between a gasoline and a diesel engine in a vehicle. The people of the United States purchased 1,507,339 vehicles in the year 2014 alone. Now, 829,185 of those vehicles were considered light trucks and the remaining 678,154 vehicles were cars. A large portion of these vehicles are power by a diesel motor as compared to a gas or hybrid motors in the other vehicles. Traditionally diesel engines are thought of as being used for large tractor trailer trucks, heavy duty equipment, and other large commercial vehicles. However, in recent years there has been a shift from the industrial world only to a more balanced market of diesel vehicles for everyday use. The three main criteria on which vehicles are judged are as follows. First, in today s day and age what is looked at is the efficiency, Fuel Efficiency. Secondly, is the durability and dependability of the vehicle, will this car or truck last, can this vehicle drive across country and not worry about it dying? Lastly, the report will talk about the affordability of the vehicle, is it better to pay less initially, will paying more initially be a better investment for the long run? Fuel Efficiency During ... • 14. Why Building Self Confidence Is Vital Confidence. Some are born with it, some have to grind for it, and others are unaware on how to obtain it. It is something either one has or lacks, but can always be accomplished over time. Self confidence can loosely be defined as the capability of a person to have assurance in his or her aptitudes and capability. Self confidence is the key to triumph, or the first step to success and happiness. Possessing self confidence can help to give wings to soar and develop a high level of passion, joy, optimism and understanding within the individual. It gives the credence that one can challenge the world and pave a path for one s self that will lead them to their visions and aspirations. This describes exactly why building self confidence is vital and how crucial self confidence is to one s persona. Joy, courage and self confidence go hand in hand. Courage, in the present perspective, refers to the capability of being able to have faith despite the opposition or complications involved. Fear is the primary adversary of self confidence and fulfilment. With courage, you overcome all limitations and doubts to follow your accomplished targets. This predictably increases the likelihood of your success. Self confidence and courage give the control to write one s own destiny. Helen Keller said, Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence. The denotation of confidence is the belief in oneself and one s powers or abilities. Everybody is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Absolutism And The Renaissance The Reformation The Renaissance is known as a turning point in the history and produced essential changes in all areas of European society and knowledge. During this time period there was a newfound interest in philosophy and the importance of understanding the world. Scholars of this time looked at Greek and Roman ideas about the world, as well as expanding on the idea of humanism and the shift away from the church. The increase of humanism put more emphasis on the state and the individual and less emphasis on the clergy. Challenges to Church authority through the Renaissance and Scientific Revolution helped to inspire the Reformation, which we see with Martin Luther s 95 theses. This expansion in turn played a major role in the many other transformations social, political, and cultural of the early modern age. The Renaissance renewed interest in classical culture, which led to far reaching changes in art, learning, and views of the world. This era led to the rediscovery of the idea of Greek city states, the direct democracy, arts, literature and philosophy. The idea of natural law and the ideal man were reinvented and Plato s book The Republic developed this idea that reason was better than power, which is ironic when we look at the age of absolutism. Before the Age of Absolutism and after the Renaissance we had the Roman Empire, which was a republic and had separate branches of government with senate. Between the Renaissance and the Age of Absolutism, there was a rise of university literacy, a movement away from one central church and authority, and increase in scientific inquiry and independence of thought and a movement towards child centered education. These two eras had many positive contributions to western civilization, as well as those that hurt civilization. Without the Renaissance and the shifting to an absolute monarchy, our society and government would be vastly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Selfishness Is Being Selfish A person who does a good deed for the sake of one s gratification, a person who puts personal obligations before others, and a person who lacks the value of human life, is a person whose forehead is stamped with a single word: selfish. Selfishness may present itself in times of danger, especially when the decision comes to saving oneself or saving another along the way. Twenty first century society dictates that when one is in a situation, such as being in a burning building, they are morally obligated to do what is seen as right. As the fire engulfs the building from all sides, deep red flames can be seen. The fire isn t only burning, but it s burning with such intensity like the fearsome fire breathing mythological creature, Chimera. The Chimera, a hybrid of a lion, goat, and snake, is viewed with fear or intrigue, similar to selfishness itself, so this begs the question; is selfishness ultimately immoral, or can it be ethical? In Examined Life, philosopher Slavoj Zizek discusses the trait that most human beings possess: being selfish. As the documentary begins, Zizek can be seen scouring a junkyard, disclosing his philosophy on ecology. • 21. Essay on Exploring Time Travel An essential requirement for the possibility of time travel is the presumption that future and past were somehow real. But according to one popular view only the present is real, and to suppose that the past or future are also real is to suppose that the past and the future are also present a contradiction. According to this sort of Heraclitean metaphysical conception, the future is genuinely open: there is no realm of determinate future fact, no denizens of the future to identify or talk about, though of course in the fullness of time there will be. Travel to the future on this view would be ruled out because there is simply nowhere to go. The past, though, is spoken of as fixed and determinate and not subject to change. ... It is well known that chronological discrepancies arise in connection with the special and general theories of relativity, quite independently of the question of time travel. But relativistic chronological discrepancies are benign in way that time travel discrepancies are not. What would count as a case of travelling into the past? We can conceive that after a certain time having experiences which are exactly like those of 1920. It is just this kind of thought experiment that makes time travel conceivable. But we would not be compelled to treat such experiences as decisive evidence of having traveled into the past. They might be taken as evidence of serious cognitive disorder, for example. David Lewis has argued that time travel stories are perfectly coherent and it is instructive to examine his defense of the possibility of time travel. Lewis does not reject, but accept the reality of future and past. The world we live in, according to Lewis, is a Parmenidean world: a four dimensional manifold of events and the occupants of the world are four dimensional aggregates of stages timelike streaks (1976, p. 145). However a time traveler is not like other aggregates; if he travels towards the past he is a zig zag streak (1976, p. 146). There might also be stretched out streaks which are travelers into ... • 22. Planetary Nebulae Clouds Nebula or the plural nebulae is derived from the Latin word for cloud(s), and is a term traditionally used by astronomers to describe the vast gaseous structures which exist throughout the universe. Nebulae now have been divided into five major categories due to their reflective and observational characteristics, these being emission nebulae, reflection nebulae, dark nebulae, supernova remnants and planetary nebulae. In fact, the term planetary nebula is a misnomer as they have nothing to do with planets or planetary systems as the name was derived by eighteenth century astronomers, William Herschel et al, who due to the restrictions of observational technology available at that time i.e. small telescopes first thought they either looked like the gas giant planets of our solar system or stars forming new planetary systems. Planetary nebulae are often given the connotation PN or PNe for the plural by astronomers and exhibit the final stage of a star s life whose initial size is approximately between 1 and 8 solar masses, where the unused gases and elements left from nuclear fusion are blown away from the remaining core producing a luminous colourful halo around it. These phenomena can be very short lived in astronomical terms, possibly just tens of thousands of years. To reach this final stage of existence all stars go through the same accepted pattern of evolution, except in the case for large mass stars who have much shorter lives due to burning their hydrogen fuel ... President Woodrow Wilson said it was harder to run a constitution than to frame it because of the difficult administrative tasks had to deal with. Sure enough, he was not the only person who felt that way. President Wilson believed that in order to run an effective government, ideas from the private sector should be incorporated into the public sector. He even went as far as to give input on how the government would be able to implement ideas from the private sector to the public sector. And that is to limit what hierarchical organization can do. Wilson believed that those in power would not have control of creating the policy, but they will have a handle on how the policy is implemented. Two themes stood out around the topic of Public Administration the distinction between policy and administration, and the accountability of elected individuals who are a part of an organization. The second theme was around the use of structures and strategies to ensure that management work efficiency. Many had much to say when it came Wilson s statement that Policy and Administration should be separate entities. A few people argued that policy and administration could not be separated because policy and administration depend on one another to work effectively.
