Pros And Cons Of Brazil
As seen throughout history, where there are settlements, there is agriculture to support the people.
Latin American nations are no different in the sense that to be able to live and remain in a single
location, crops and animals had to be raised. As well, given evidence from Latin American countries,
as well nations elsewhere, farmers and landowners grew to power as their resources allowed growth
and health to be prosperous.
In the 20th Century, Latin America, specifically Brazil, saw said power and a relationship develop
between landholders, farmers, and largescale businessmen as the wants and desires by each party
could be satisfied by the others, thusly a relationship of give and take was created. Each partner is this

Discourse Community In America
A discourse community is a group of individual who all have the same shared ideals, beliefs, values,
and rules all communicated with using the discourse community s own established language. For
example, a grouping of innovative scientists are describing new ways of curing diseases, using their
own terminologies some people may find confusing because they are possibly not a part of that
community overall. A foreigner traveling to America may find the culture to be puzzling and
conflicting with how people abbreviate their words, and enforce their beliefs unto others. That
foreigner will more than likely feel outcasted for being unaware of how Americans run their own
culture. When somebody visits southern parts of the United States, such as ... Show more content on

Individuals deciding to travel beyond their regular boundaries will need to accumulate knowledge of
the selected area before trekking it blindly; recognizing the community s background knowledge of its
pertinent exchange of values and rules will help ease in the culture. Inhabiting the same continent, a
plethora of individual cultures are home to individual communities, similar to the difference in
comparing and contrasting two incredibly diverse continents. The bottom line is that people will only
learn of the interested discourse community if they inquire what generals they should be wary of to

Models and Theorists in Organizational Development
Edgar Schein Modification of the Three Stage Process:
Edgar Schein modified the three stage process through specifying the psychological mechanisms
involved in each stage.
In stage 1, unfreezing is where disconfirmation creates hassle and discomfort, which causes guilt and
anxiety and drives and motivates the person towards change. But unless the person feels comfortable
with dropping the old behaviors and adopting new ones then change will not occur. This means the
person must be psychologically safe in order to replace the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

5. Structure: The study of structure should not be confined to hierarchical structure; rather it should be
a function based structure focusing on the responsibility, authority, communication, decision making
and control structure that exists between the people of the organization.
6. Systems: Systems includes all types of policies and procedures with regards to both the people and
the operations of the organization.
7. Management Practices: This would entail a study of how well the mangers conform to the
organization s strategy when dealing with employees and the resources.
8. Work Unit Climate: It is a collective study of how the employees think, feel and what do they
expect. The kind of relationships the employees share with their team members and members of other
teams is also an important aspect of work unit climate.
9. Tasks and Skills: This involves understanding what a specific job position demands and the kind of
kind of skills and knowledge that an employee must have in order to fulfill the task responsibilities of
that job position. It is important to see how well jobs and employees have been matched.
10. Individual Values and Needs: This dimension seeks to explore the employee s opinion about their

Pathology Between China And The West
Pathology Between China and the West and the Crisis of the Chinese Identity
So the book I decided to do for my book review is The Afterlife of Images: Translating the
Pathological Body Between China and the West. In the introduction of the book the author finds it
important to state how she came to the point on writing the book. As the author was working in the
National Palace Museum researching representations of pathology in modern art, a colleague pointed
out a picture in showed a boy with smallpox. The picture was part of an exhibition at the time called
Comparison of Chinese and World Cultures . In this exhibit there were two timelines; a Chinese and
Western one. The aim of both timelines was to form a visual comparison of ... Show more content on

In other words an image that was used in order to be able to properly diagnose and contain the disease
through inoculation and that was a symbol of technological prowess in the eyes of the Chinese had
become a symbol for underdevelopment, as the Chinese came to be identified with a vulnerability to
disease. The goal of this book is to trace the development and the origins of the various medical
iconographies that ended up connecting the Chinese identity with illness subjugation at the dawn of
modernity. By doing so, it tries to point the various outlines of the varied contexts in which the
meanings of medical representations were created and transformed in the late nineteenth century and
early twentieth century. It focuses on the medical rhetoric, the study and application of persuasive
language and symbols in medicine, and the iconography of missionaries in China that brought back to
the West this perception of a sick China or otherwise known as Sick Man of Asia (Heinrich, pg 4).
Furthermore, it also studies how these ideas found their way back to China through missionaries, early
translations of Western medical texts to Chinese, and through Chinese literature itself. Ultimately, it
not only tries to point out the importance

17 November 2011 I write this letter to the people of France, my countrymen and family. I, William,
Duke of Normandy am on the verge of solidifying our great nation with land that was rightfully
entitled to me. After breaking an oath of allegiance, Harold of Wessex shall pay the ultimate price for

Count Eustace carries an elaborate banner, one given by the Pope to show his support for this invasion
of England (Museum of Reading, 2011). Destiny appears to be on our side, for the English
fortifications have weakened. Our soldiers break through their shield wall and continue with the
carnage. As bodies dot the landscape, the spoils of war are going to the victors. Shields and armor
taken from slain English soldiers will accompany us back home as proof of our victory. Finally as fate
would have it, Harold of Wessex has fallen! Shot through the eye with an arrow, the accuracy given
that archer must have been blessed to him by God himself. As Harold fell and his body hacked to
ensure death, I realize my destiny is complete. The very crown Harold swore under oath to me is now
mine via the blade of a Norman sword. Let this be a lesson to those who lie upon the sacred relics, fate
will reveal itself in time. I, William, Duke of Normandy and King of England will punish all deceivers
as I did the English. People of France, I leave you with one last validation of how your fellow
Normans achieved victory, Et fuga verterunt angli. And the English fled (Crack, 1998). References

Catch The Big Fish By David Lynch Summary
Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity is a book by famous and very
talented film director David Lynch. It can be called as an autobiographical journey of David Lynch. It
is a short book with 192 pages published on December 28, 2006 in United States which covers the
subjects like meditation, self help, creativity and peace. This title of this book Catching a big Fish
gives the idea of Lynch s thoughts. In this review I will be discussing the summary of book along with
some uses of figures of speech, symbolism along with the take home message of this book. I will also
be discussing how appealing this book was to me and how does it relate to our course.

It was above an average book to read and was not one of the best one s I have read due to some
reasons. The foremost reason for my dislike was that this book was just an illustration about Lynch s
experiences and all about how meditating helped him which might be disappointing for the readers
like me because this book can be seen as completely lacking the dramatic tension that readers like me
expects from a book. Secondly, I felt that the information provided in this book was fragmented and
not very well structured and it seems that author was free to write his experiences into bits and pieces
without putting any extra efforts towards character development, story arcs and plotting. If you are not
a fan of David Lynch and are not known to his works you will be really disappointed. On the other
hand, if you are a great fan of Lynch it is a great book to read for you because every fan desires to
know more about his role model s inspiration, how he develop ideas, what are the pushing factors for
his works and this book contains it all. It contains everything from Lynch s experiences to his
inspirations and push factors for his creative thinking. It is a great book for the ones who want to
understand Lynch more deeply. The reason for my liking towards this book was some of the quotes
and phrases which I discussed above in the review which were really eye opening and motivating for
people who have lost all the hopes from their

The Text as Theology
In its original cultic sitz im leben, where the psalm would have been sung in antiphon, the exhortation
would have been directed toward the congregation in the liturgy, whereby they would respond with the
second part of each verse, the whole assembly telling the wondrous story of YHWH s salvation of
Israel. We too can join in this choral liturgy, seeing the thread that is drawn from the pillars of the
earth at creation, through Israel s history, to Christ s cross and resurrection, even to our own day where
we continue to see the salvation of YHWH in our midst. The horizon of praise within this psalm

YHWH has done, and continues to do for His people. The cross and resurrection were not the last of
His marvelous works, but YHWH has continued to act in the life of the church these last 2000 years!
Jesus is ever at work within our very midst as He builds His kingdom. He calls us to remember where
we as His people have been, and called to continue to keep all hope in the future we have in heaven.

The Misunderstood Religion of Islam
Islam is perhaps the supreme misunderstood religion today, among non Muslims and among some of
the Muslims themselves. There are both historical and modern influences that might clarify this
misconception of Islam within certain rings in the West. One should start with the fact that Islam,
represented historically as the Ottoman Empire man Empire, occupied parts of Europe, which had
certainly not occurred to European civilization before. Then there were the Crusades, which was
Christendom attempting to, I believe, execute and impose its religion upon the Middle East. I
deliberately use the phrase Middle East, as the Crusades did not just impact the Muslim population;
the Jews were also in a similar position and were victims of this process. Furthermore, according to
specific groups, the Orthodox Christians were victims as well of those circumstances. Therefore, it
was fundamentally Western Christendom that was the driving factor of the Crusades, which extended
throughout centuries and ended in defeat for the powerful Christian leaders. This had an impact on the
psyche of the Western people and influenced their opinion of civilization. Then, of course, you had
colonialism, which affected both sides and created a situation in which the antagonism became even
more serious. After the colonial period, a key factor that arose concerned the economic benefits
represented by oil, which is considered a gold commodity that is most essential to manufacturing and
industrial

About Myer Holdings Limited
Myer Holdings Limited Introduction As stated by Weller (2007) Australia s textile industry has seen a
steady growth from 1970s to date, which makes it one of the major contributors to the economic
development of the nation and a greater source of employment opportunity. The industry is unique
from other markets around the world specifically from European and U.S. markets. This unique
arrangement of the Australian space economy frequently contributes to several barriers for many
clothing firms which has intention to establish in Australia. However, Australia s population within
most urban centers is very less density which creates a lot of obstacles for any firm investing in
Australia to make a nationwide market. Additionally, most of the clothing industries operating in
Australia, one or two companies are specialized in the production of a lot of products which are
normally sold at the national level, again a good number of smaller clothing companies work in local,
in cities or within the state territories. The diversity of the market looks more fruitful for companies to
serve in a specialized niche market and to build a number of semi monopolistic market spaces.
Clothing market and some of the similar industries in Australia are always determined by the climatic
condition and people s lifestyle. This decides how the people spend on clothing and the kind of clothes
which normally being bought, for example clothes such as sports wear and casual wear. It s however,

The Spirit Of The 400 Year Anniversary Of Ben Jonson
In the spirit of the 400 year anniversary of Ben Jonson s First Folio, the Resurgens Theatre Company,
under the direction of Brent Griffin, put on a very lively, enjoyable rendition of Jonson s Volpone.
Playing at Atlanta s Shakespeare Tavern, an aura of energy fills the house from the second you walk
through the door way to the moment when you leave the building. This high energy Jacobean comedy
put on by a dynamic cast under seasoned intelligent direction offered a very praise worthy production.
Despite some very minute flaws, overall the actors were very purposefully directed, understood the
text, and offered a unique comedic experience that to much surprise is 400 years old. A particular
challenge that is often found in plays written from this era that are presented to layman audiences, is
the obstacle of understanding. I m sure everyone is aware that the language that was used in 1600 s
England is very different from what we use nowadays. And when presenting this dramatically, you
often find that in order to efficiently communicate this language to an audience that isn t well versed
in this language, players have to play the characters and words in a larger than life fashion to assist the
audience. The company of Volpone did this extremely well. Nearly through and through, the entire
cast understood this and did a fantastic job of using this tool to communicate the text effectively. The
cast of Volpone also showed mastery in such fundamentals of acting that often

style is supportive because he shows concern for his students well being and needs. He has a

After WWII, Europe was in shambles. Nearly every country in the mainland was affected by the death
and destruction brought on by the Third Reich s rise and fall. Many traditional East European
governments were toppled in the wake of the costliest human conflict to date. Out of the destruction
rose two competing political ideologies, each vying for the dominating spot on the world stage, and a
divided Germany was the forefront for this ideological battle. From West Germany westward, the

Summary Of Cholera
Valerie Montague Reading Response 6
Aberth
He begins by describing the identification of cholera by Koch and some of the epidemiology. Cholera
is a gastrointestinal disease marked by excessive defecation and vomiting at alarming rates. This along
with a toxin in the small intestines causes dehydration and wearing down of the GI tract. The first
known pandemic of cholera began in 1817 and persisted in various parts of the world throughout the
19th century. The disease presents an interesting way to look at social ideologies and imperialism in
19th century Europe with some people accusing others of poison as the cause of the disease. Also
those who died of cholera were often given dishonorable burials and designated for dissection. Aberth
finishes the chapter by talking about John Snow, a British surgeon who traced cholera back to sewage
contaminated with feces decades before germ theory was recognized.

Evans argues that cholera played a large role in political change and medicalization. To analyze this,
he looked at the psychological impact of cholera, the extent of political upheaval, and scapegoats for
the epidemic as a mode for policy change. For the first point, Evan stated that the symptoms of
cholera went against feelings of Victorian prudery as the disease is degrading. He continues by
pointing out the idea that the poor are most vulnerable to the epidemic. For his second point, Evans
links the outbreaks of cholera to political revolutions and upheavals. Continuing on with this point, he
says that mass movement of people by war and trade played a large role in the spread of the disease.
For his third point, he shows various scapegoats such as the government with the cordons sanitares .
He says that riots against government quarantine caused the governments to back

Big data is a term to explain large complex data set, and big data is challenging the traditional data

1. IoT:
1.1. Introduction to IoT Figure 1. In IoT things are able to connect with each other through internet.
The internet of Things (IOT) is an important part of new generation of information technology and

1.2. RFID and RFID system Figure 2 RFID tag is widely used in manufacturing and logistic industry
RFID is a type of automate identification and data capture technology (AIDC), which use wireless
frequency to get the related data from object, and recognize it. (Ashton, 2009). It is not necessary to
make a physical contact between objects in IoT to load data (it allows hundreds of meter to load data),
and the data can be transferred correctly and fast. (Gershenfeld, Raffi, Danny, 2004). RFID tag can be
used at many fields, such as logistic and manufacturing industry to locate and monitor the materials or
product.
In IoT, the RFID system composed of electric tag, reader, and internet, and the RFID system use
electronic tag to identify specific object, and RFID tag would exchange data through wireless
frequency. (Bonsor Wesley, 2014). The reader transmit the host computer command to RFID tag, and
convey the RFID tag s information back to the host computer. (Bonsor Wesley, 2014).
The RFID system can be divided in to three types based on its frequency, which are low frequency
system (30KHz 300KHz), high frequency RFID system (3MHz 30MHz), and microwave system.
(Rouse, 2014). The microwave system is the majorly used in the IoT, which has a frequency greater

Shakespeare had written many plays in his life time, some of them included various tragedies which
included King Lear and Macbeth. All of Shakespeare s plays had a theme which was used to help the

have a common theme of madness that is apparent throughout the play which has been depicted
differently. They are both written in different ways but still share a same purpose. The essay will be

theme of madness. For example one of Lear s first speeches after things started to go bad for him,
Poor naked wretches, wheresoe er you are, That bide the pelting of this pitiless storm, How shall your
house hold heads and unfed sides, Your loop d and window d rag gedness, defend you... (III.iv.35 38).
Lear s insanity increases throughout the play, demonstrated to the audience through more speeches,
until his emotions overthrow his reason at the climax of the play. Lear randomly shouts in to the
storm,
Rumble thy bellyfull! Spit, fire! Spout, rain! Nor rain, wind, thunder, fire are my daughters. I tax not
you, you elements, with unkindness. I never gave you kingdom, called you children (III.ii.14 17).
The example of Lear invoking the storm to destroy the seeds of matter along with many other absurd
statements illustrates that he has an

The Sauron of Santo Domingo
The many references by Junot Diaz to J.R.R. Tolkien s universe in The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar
Wao prove to be more than just an allusion to the fantastical works. The recurring comparisons of the
Trujillato to the power of Sauron are more than just metaphors. They are descriptions. Diaz uses his
references to describe people and situations, in real life, that have no other way of being described.
The first direct quote of Oscar de Leon is, What more sci fi than Santo Domingo? What more fantasy
than the Antilles? (6). Diaz gives direct meaning to this statement through Yunior s knowledge and
love of the speculative genre, which he picked up from Oscar, and parallels the world we live in with
the fantastical world of Middle Earth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Shelob lives in Sauron s domain, he does not have any direct control over her. Also, just as
Shelob never hesitates to prey on both man and orc, so too La Fea cheated everyone she did business
with, including her brother (139). Diaz uses the allusion to explain even what the sister of Trujillo
thinks, knowing that Shelob does not like to kill her prey right away, instead stinging them and leaving
them paralyzed before she actually kills them. This method is used against Beli as well; when La Fea
orders her orcs to capture Beli, she is beaten to the brink of death, but not killed. The perfection and
detail of Diaz s allusion goes much deeper than a simple metaphor, and actually defines who this
character is.
When Tolkien originally wrote The Lord of the Rings, he did so as reference to World War II, which
was ongoing at the time. For him, Sauron was a representation of Hitler; the gaze of His Eye, the
spread of industrialization and destruction from the war. For Diaz, Sauron is Trujillo, the gaze of His
Eye, the domination he exerted, as well as the anonymity of his secret police. It was one thing for Diaz
to make the comparison of Trujillo to Sauron, but he now affirms his argument by adding figurative
subtext to it. Diaz writes that Trujillo s beloved Morgul Lords [were the

Essay On Helen Keller
Helen Keller House and Museum at Ivy Green When I heard about this assignment I didn t really
know what I wanted to do. I heard about a special lady who was born in Tuscumbia Alabama. The
special lady I was referring too was Helen Keller, I didn t really know much about her except for the
fact that she was blind and deaf. I have also heard about the play and the movie Miracle Worker that
was based off of her life. Little did I know I was in for a treat, learning about this magnificent woman
s life and the influence she had on the deaf community. Helen Keller s early life started in Tuscumbia
Alabama where she was born and raised. Helen home was located on 600 acres of land which was

During this time period when children contracted this disease most children died, but fortunately
Helen survived. She did not come out of this unharmed she became blind and deaf. As a result Helen
became a lot more of a problem child. Instead of sitting and eating with the rest of the family she
would walk around the table and take food off of each of their plates. Also if Helen didn t receive what
she wanted she would throw temper tantrums until she got her way. Once during one of her outburst
she began to beat her hands so hard on the hardwood floor that her hands began to bleed. Helen later
said during her time as a child she felt as if she was trapped in her own mind. Her parents had to do
something, so they hired a teacher whose name was Anne Sullivan who was educated and graduated
from the Perkins Institute at the age of twenty. This would be Anne s first job helping to educate
Helen. Mr. Keller offered her thirty five dollars a month to move from Boston to their home in
Alabama to with Helen. For the first few weeks Anne just observed Helen during her everyday
activities, but one day Helen decided to take a piece of sausage from Anne s plate just as times before,
but Anne slapped her hand and putting her hand to her face and moving it from side to side saying No
! This was a new concept to Helen because no one had ever told her no before. Because of this Helen

Sea Otters Research Paper
Sea otters are a keystone species, meaning their role in their environment has a greater effect than
other species. As predators, sea otters are critical to maintaining the balance of the near shore kelp
ecosystems. Without sea otters, the undersea animals they prey on would devour the kelp forests off
the coast that provide cover and food for many other marine animals. Additionally, sea otters
indirectly help to reduce levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, a prevalent greenhouse gas, as kelp
forests play an important role in capturing carbon in coastal ecosystems

Sea otters live in shallow coastal waters off the northern Pacific. Their historic range stretched from
Japan, along the coast of Siberia and the Aleutian Chain and down the Alaska, British Columbia,
Washington, Oregon and California coast to Baja California. Currently sea otters can be found in
Canada, Russia, Japan, California and Washington, but the majority of all wild sea otters are found in
Alaskan waters. Recent reports of sea otter sightings have also occurred in Mexico.
In the U.S., there are two distinct sea otter subspecies, the Northern sea otter (Enhydra lutris kenyoni)

What is Abortion?
As stated in the Merriam Webster Dictionary (2016) and Abortion (/e boar sheen) is the medical
procedure used to end a pregnancy and cause death of the fetus.
Abortions were widely used in the early eighteen hundreds and kept secret due public scrutineer. Not
only were they considered against the law in some places but were risky due to high risk of infection
from unsterile equipment used to perform the actions. Without today s current technology, maternal
and infant mortality rates during childbirth were extraordinarily high. (National abortion Federation,
2016) as time contained states changed and modified their laws to accommodate political agendas,
these opposed to legal abortion had begun to fight absent any stated funded abortion clines. Then there

An Older Brother s Influence in James Baldwin’s Sonny’s Blues
In James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues, the unspoken brotherly bond between the narrator and his younger
brother Sonny is illustrated through the narrator s point of view. The two brothers have not spoken in
years until the narrator receives a letter from Sonny after his daughter dies. He takes this moment as
an important sign from Sonny and feels the need to respond. While both Sonny and the narrator live in
separate worlds, all Sonny needs is a brother to care for him while the narrator finds himself in the
past eventually learning his role as an older brother. When the narrator and Sonny finally get a chance
to speak to each other after many years, they begin to slowly open up to each other the grim reality
that they face. I said: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

without a fight. He cares about his brother, which is what Sonny has needed all this time; an older
brother to tell him that he should not give up, that he should make smart decisions and make
something of himself. The narrator is trying to make up for all the time apart that he has spent from
Sonny during his time of need, and perhaps that is his way of making himself feel better about
abandoning his younger brother so many years before. Sonny has had a problem with drugs for some
time, which leads him having to serve a jail sentence. The narrator tries to stay oblivious, which is part
of the reason he turned his back on his younger brother for so many years. I couldn t believe it: but
what I mean by that is that I couldn t find any room for it anywhere inside of me. I had kept it outside
me for a long time. I hadn t wanted to know. I had had suspicions, but I didn t name them, I kept
putting them away (831). The way that he dealt with his younger brother s problems was by turning
his back on them. He knew that Sonny was dealing with heavy problems, but chose to look past them
and live his own life. He also knows that leaving his brother during the time he needed him the most
was wrong of him to do. The narrator goes on to say, I didn t want to believe that I d ever see my

The tradition of No Shave November can be traced to Australia in 2004. A group of 30 men organized

Terrorism After Ww2
Terrorism after World War Two took on the rise of Nationalistic and Endemic terrorism. Terrorist
campaigns were aimed at the security forces, and they also targeted audiences in the imperial
homelands (White, pg. 161, 2012). The British government was a major player in the cause of this I
believe from regions in Cyprus and Kenya. Occupation by the Brits gathered the rise of the original
ethnic groups within those regions to fight against this occupation. This resulted in an uncomfortable
conflict of interests with the NATO partners of the United Kingdom and Turkey, and it threatened the
stability of the alliance (White, pg. 162, 2012). France also invaded North Africa and some French

138, 2012). These long term separatists are different from the religious group as are the ethnic and
nationalistic groups. They usually have a clear mission. The Basque Nation and Liberty (ETA) fought
against Spain for a long time and just ended its fight in 2011. Ethnic terrorism is as its name states that
it s a fight between different ethnic groups within a region. Examples of these are the Kurdistan
Workers Party (PKK), and the Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA). They want to make a
statement of the identity, and be recognized as such. Unfortunately this can take on a violent nature
and become terrorism as it has in the past. Modern terrorism is associated with the 1916 Easter Black
Rising, the Black and Tan War of 1919 to 1921 (White, pg. 139, 2012). Sri Lanka has suffered
terrorism in the form of this type by groups of the Sinhalese, and the Tamils. Ireland had been
occupied by the British for an extremely long time and this has caused terrorism in Ireland. Irish
nationalists, long angered by the colonial rule of England, incorporated terrorist techniques into their
revolt against British rule, and their experiences evolved as weapons technology improved (White, pg.
139, 2012). Ethnic Terrorism in separatist movements ranges through many parts of the world.

Gender Stereotypes In Nowlan s The Fall Of A City
Gender stereotypes in Nowlan s The Fall of a City Why is it that girls can wear pants, but boys cannot
wear dresses? Why can girls play with trucks, but boys cannot play with dolls? Why has society
restricted girl like behavior for boys?
In The Fall of a City, Teddy, the protagonist faces similar challenges. The Fall of a City is a fictitious
short story written by Alden Nowlan. A young boy creates a miniature city out of paper and cardboard
and uses his vivid imagination to escape reality. Unfortunately, conflicts and characterization teaches
Teddy that in order to be socially accepted in the adult world, he must abandon his innocent, child like
ways and succumb to gender stereotypes.
First of all, Teddy learns to succumb ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Teddy goes to the attic and sees that the city was as he had left it. Yet everything had
changed. Always before when he had come here, his flesh had tingled, his eyes had shone with
excitement. Now there was only a taste like that of a spoilt nutmeg (Nowlan 3). After Teddy s talk
with his uncle, his innocent love of playing with Theodoresburg has been ruined. Teddy sees the city
in a new perspective, knowing that adults believe that he is playing with paper dolls and dollhouses.
This reveals that Teddy is weak when it comes to his uncle, as he gives in to his torment. Once
humiliated by his uncle, Teddy is easily influenced by the idea of him exhibiting girl like behavior. In
addition, Teddy easily succumbs to gender stereotypes and lets his uncle ruin his love of playing with
the city. Another example is when Teddy [...] bent and seized the cardboard palace. Gritting his teeth
and grunting, he tore at its walls. The corrugated board was sturdy: he was crying by the time he
finished tearing it to shreds (Nowlan 4). In other words, Teddy destroys his fort and since he was
crying, it is evident that he was not happy about doing so. This also reveals that Teddy is very
sensitive and that his uncle s put downs really hurt him. Teddy s uncle went on about how Teddy is
acting like a girl by playing with dolls and dollhouses. He laughs at him and tells him that he

Through the use of Textbooks , this CACPRE standard (2009) helped me to comprehend the process

was enjoying enormous popularity when the rumor surfaced one month before the election. Nixon was
accused of accepting a supplemental salary of $18,000 dollars, contributed by a group of supporters

Nixon was basically stating that he was a proven enemy of communists and that the democrats
assisted them. Finally, Nixon supports Eisenhower by showing that he is qualified to clean up
corruption and deal with communists. If one looks closely at Nixon s speech it has a very easy, logical
pattern to follow, and allowed him to achieve every goal that he set for himself. One of his main
intentions of his speech was to attack the democrats, but at the same time make republicans, including
himself, look good. After Nixon built up his own credibility, he began to bash the democrats. He
implied that Stevenson and Sparkman had something to hide, unless they do as I did and make their
finances pubic. Nixon encourages his audience to believe a lot of things that may or may not have
been true. One, that he has done nothing morally wrong with using the $18,000 fund because he made
his finances public. Two, he is an honest man, and he deserves to be retained as Vice Presidential
candidate. Three, rich men such as Governor Stevenson who inherited a fortune from his father should
not deserve to be president. But, a modest man such as himself or Eisenhower, a common man that
God must have loved, should have that chance at office. In general Nixon said that Eisenhower and he,
the republican candidates, are qualified to lead the country and democrats are not. Therefore, he only

Enslaved African Americans and Native Americans approached health and healing encompassed both
physical and spiritual in curing for the body. Healing involved the entire community, the elder s
knowledge of herbal medicine, spiritual vision from ancestors who had passed on, and powers

population as they made contact with European explorers. Native American s knowledge of herbal
medicine was no match for a number of imported germs and viruses the Europeans brought with them

Latin American nations are no different in the sense that to be able to live and remain in a single location, crops and animals had to be raised. As well, given evidence from Latin American countries, as well nations elsewhere, farmers and landowners grew to power as their resources allowed growth and health to be prosperous. Pathology Between China And The West Pathology Between China and the West and the Crisis of the Chinese Identity So the book I decided to do for my book review is The Afterlife of Images: Translating the Pathological Body Between China and the West. In the introduction of the book the author finds it important to state how she came to the point on writing the book. As the author was working in the National Palace Museum researching representations of pathology in modern art, a colleague pointed out a picture in showed a boy with smallpox. The picture was part of an exhibition at the time called Comparison of Chinese and World Cultures . In this exhibit there were two timelines; a Chinese and Western one. In other words an image that was used in order to be able to properly diagnose and contain the disease through inoculation and that was a symbol of technological prowess in the eyes of the Chinese had become a symbol for underdevelopment, as the Chinese came to be identified with a vulnerability to disease. The goal of this book is to trace the development and the origins of the various medical iconographies that ended up connecting the Chinese identity with illness subjugation at the dawn of modernity. By doing so, it tries to point the various outlines of the varied contexts in which the meanings of medical representations were created and transformed in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. It focuses on the medical rhetoric, the study and application of persuasive language and symbols in medicine, and the iconography of missionaries in China that brought back to the West this perception of a sick China or otherwise known as Sick Man of Asia (Heinrich, pg 4). Furthermore, it also studies how these ideas found their way back to China through missionaries, early translations of Western medical texts to Chinese, and through Chinese literature itself. I, William, Duke of Normandy am on the verge of solidifying our great nation with land that was rightfully entitled to me. After breaking an oath of allegiance, Harold of Wessex shall pay the ultimate price for his treasonous act of claiming a crown not meant for him. Count Eustace carries an elaborate banner, one given by the Pope to show his support for this invasion of England (Museum of Reading, 2011). Destiny appears to be on our side, for the English fortifications have weakened. Our soldiers break through their shield wall and continue with the carnage. As bodies dot the landscape, the spoils of war are going to the victors. Shields and armor taken from slain English soldiers will accompany us back home as proof of our victory. Finally as fate would have it, Harold of Wessex has fallen! Shot through the eye with an arrow, the accuracy given that archer must have been blessed to him by God himself. As Harold fell and his body hacked to ensure death, I realize my destiny is complete. The very crown Harold swore under oath to me is now mine via the blade of a Norman sword. Let this be a lesson to those who lie upon the sacred relics, fate will reveal itself in time. I, William, Duke of Normandy and King of England will punish all deceivers as I did the English. • 10. Catch The Big Fish By David Lynch Summary Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity is a book by famous and very talented film director David Lynch. It can be called as an autobiographical journey of David Lynch. It is a short book with 192 pages published on December 28, 2006 in United States which covers the subjects like meditation, self help, creativity and peace. This title of this book Catching a big Fish gives the idea of Lynch s thoughts. I will also be discussing how appealing this book was to me and how does it relate to our course. This book closely connects mindfulness with creativity. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was above an average book to read and was not one of the best one s I have read due to some reasons. The foremost reason for my dislike was that this book was just an illustration about Lynch s experiences and all about how meditating helped him which might be disappointing for the readers like me because this book can be seen as completely lacking the dramatic tension that readers like me expects from a book. Secondly, I felt that the information provided in this book was fragmented and not very well structured and it seems that author was free to write his experiences into bits and pieces without putting any extra efforts towards character development, story arcs and plotting. If you are not a fan of David Lynch and are not known to his works you will be really disappointed. On the other hand, if you are a great fan of Lynch it is a great book to read for you because every fan desires to know more about his role model s inspiration, how he develop ideas, what are the pushing factors for his works and this book contains it all. It contains everything from Lynch s experiences to his inspirations and push factors for his creative thinking. It is a great book for the ones who want to understand Lynch more deeply. • 12. The Misunderstood Religion of Islam Islam is perhaps the supreme misunderstood religion today, among non Muslims and among some of the Muslims themselves. There are both historical and modern influences that might clarify this misconception of Islam within certain rings in the West. One should start with the fact that Islam, represented historically as the Ottoman Empire man Empire, occupied parts of Europe, which had certainly not occurred to European civilization before. Then there were the Crusades, which was Christendom attempting to, I believe, execute and impose its religion upon the Middle East. I deliberately use the phrase Middle East, as the Crusades did not just impact the Muslim population; the Jews were also in a similar position and were victims of this process. Furthermore, according to specific groups, the Orthodox Christians were victims as well of those circumstances. Therefore, it was fundamentally Western Christendom that was the driving factor of the Crusades, which extended throughout centuries and ended in defeat for the powerful Christian leaders. This had an impact on the psyche of the Western people and influenced their opinion of civilization. Then, of course, you had colonialism, which affected both sides and created a situation in which the antagonism became even more serious. After the colonial period, a key factor that arose concerned the economic benefits represented by oil, which is considered a gold commodity that is most essential to manufacturing and industrial ... About Myer Holdings Limited Myer Holdings Limited Introduction As stated by Weller (2007) Australia s textile industry has seen a steady growth from 1970s to date, which makes it one of the major contributors to the economic development of the nation and a greater source of employment opportunity. The industry is unique from other markets around the world specifically from European and U.S. markets. This unique arrangement of the Australian space economy frequently contributes to several barriers for many clothing firms which has intention to establish in Australia. However, Australia s population within most urban centers is very less density which creates a lot of obstacles for any firm investing in Australia to make a nationwide market. Additionally, most of the clothing industries operating in Australia, one or two companies are specialized in the production of a lot of products which are normally sold at the national level, again a good number of smaller clothing companies work in local, in cities or within the state territories. The diversity of the market looks more fruitful for companies to serve in a specialized niche market and to build a number of semi monopolistic market spaces. Clothing market and some of the similar industries in Australia are always determined by the climatic condition and people s lifestyle. This decides how the people spend on clothing and the kind of clothes which normally being bought, for example clothes such as sports wear and casual wear. It s however, ... • 14. The Spirit Of The 400 Year Anniversary Of Ben Jonson In the spirit of the 400 year anniversary of Ben Jonson s First Folio, the Resurgens Theatre Company, under the direction of Brent Griffin, put on a very lively, enjoyable rendition of Jonson s Volpone. Playing at Atlanta s Shakespeare Tavern, an aura of energy fills the house from the second you walk through the door way to the moment when you leave the building. This high energy Jacobean comedy put on by a dynamic cast under seasoned intelligent direction offered a very praise worthy production. Despite some very minute flaws, overall the actors were very purposefully directed, understood the text, and offered a unique comedic experience that to much surprise is 400 years old. A particular challenge that is often found in plays written from this era that are presented to layman audiences, is the obstacle of understanding. I m sure everyone is aware that the language that was used in 1600 s England is very different from what we use nowadays. And when presenting this dramatically, you often find that in order to efficiently communicate this language to an audience that isn t well versed in this language, players have to play the characters and words in a larger than life fashion to assist the audience. The company of Volpone did this extremely well. Nearly through and through, the entire cast understood this and did a fantastic job of using this tool to communicate the text effectively. The students know that Mr. Nolan has the power to kick them out, call their parents, and even punish them with a couple smacks on the rear end with a wooden paddle. Poland s people have had a long history of being pushed around and forgotten, and the Soviets were quick to take discreet advantage of this after WWII. Your dishes can be complimented with black olives, fresh herbs, mushrooms, berries and dried cherries. A tender, milder cut of beef, such as a tenderloin makes for an excellent choice when serving a Merlot. I always found it most enjoyable to take a bite of the tenderloin and then a sip of Merlot and let the flavors just mesh on the palate. • 19. Summary Of Cholera Valerie Montague Reading Response 6 Aberth He begins by describing the identification of cholera by Koch and some of the epidemiology. Cholera is a gastrointestinal disease marked by excessive defecation and vomiting at alarming rates. This along with a toxin in the small intestines causes dehydration and wearing down of the GI tract. The first known pandemic of cholera began in 1817 and persisted in various parts of the world throughout the 19th century. The disease presents an interesting way to look at social ideologies and imperialism in 19th century Europe with some people accusing others of poison as the cause of the disease. Also those who died of cholera were often given dishonorable burials and designated for dissection. Aberth finishes the chapter by talking about John Snow, a British surgeon who traced cholera back to sewage contaminated with feces decades before germ theory was recognized. He continues by pointing out the idea that the poor are most vulnerable to the epidemic. For his second point, Evans links the outbreaks of cholera to political revolutions and upheavals. Continuing on with this point, he says that mass movement of people by war and trade played a large role in the spread of the disease. The recurring comparisons of the Trujillato to the power of Sauron are more than just metaphors. They are descriptions. Diaz uses his references to describe people and situations, in real life, that have no other way of being described. The first direct quote of Oscar de Leon is, What more sci fi than Santo Domingo? Also, just as Shelob never hesitates to prey on both man and orc, so too La Fea cheated everyone she did business with, including her brother (139). Diaz uses the allusion to explain even what the sister of Trujillo thinks, knowing that Shelob does not like to kill her prey right away, instead stinging them and leaving them paralyzed before she actually kills them. This method is used against Beli as well; when La Fea orders her orcs to capture Beli, she is beaten to the brink of death, but not killed. The perfection and detail of Diaz s allusion goes much deeper than a simple metaphor, and actually defines who this character is. When Tolkien originally wrote The Lord of the Rings, he did so as reference to World War II, which was ongoing at the time. For him, Sauron was a representation of Hitler; the gaze of His Eye, the spread of industrialization and destruction from the war. For Diaz, Sauron is Trujillo, the gaze of His Eye, the domination he exerted, as well as the anonymity of his secret police.
