2. The Blog I am choosing to analyse from
previous A2 work is Jessica Hooker. Her A2
blog was made in 2017.
Her blog focuses on a music video
she created which is what I will be
doing for my A2 Coursework.

3. DIGIPAK
Jessica’s digipak follows a strict colour
scheme where black is the prominent colour.
The use of lights seem very effective as the
blurred effect makes the yellow/orange
colour of the lights stand out. The digipak
she has made follows the conventions of a
typical digipak with the use of a front cover,
back cover, CD and centrefold. The people
on the cover show how Jessica has wanted to
keep the artists seen instead of possible art
work.
The front cover has remained largely simple with the two artists and the band name written in white. The
back cover features the track list written in white against a black background. The overall tone and style
of the digipak portrays a sophisticated and professional look. The house font along with the colour
scheme all show a plain yet effective look. The way it is laid out also allows us to see how it would fit
together in actual CD form.
When creating my own digipak I hope to create something with a very similar simple yet effective look.
The creative flare with the blurring of the lights is something I find interesting and appealing.
4. ALBUM POSTER
The poster follows the same style as the digipak
with the black background, white writing and two
artists. The main image shows two people, a boy
looking forward and a girl looking down. These two
images are blurring together with a black
background slightly separating them.
The masthead clearly shows the band to be ‘The
NBHD’, with a new single ‘Wiped Out’. The poster
follows all the major conventions with ratings
featured at the top along with social media and
institutional information.
The contrast between the brightly lit faces, the bold
white writing and the black background is extremely
compatible. It is clear that Jessica understood the
need for a complimentary colour scheme to entice
possible audiences. The fact the artists are not
looking at each other shows a possible conflict
which again draws the audience in. In my opinion it
has clearly marketed and promoted the album in
which she has created.
5. MUSIC VIDEO
The music video which she published on YouTube is
titled Cry Baby. I wanted to analyse this music video
due to the song choice, it is a very powerful song in my
opinion and her music video fits it very well. It fits the
conventions of the genre of music as well as remaining
individual to her own style and the rest of the products
she made.
The music video follows a male protagonist as he sings
the song amidst darkness with only a few flashes of
light. These shots are often blurred into shots of a
female protagonist. From the lyrics it is easy to suggest
that she is the focus of his attentions.
Jessica’s use of multiple locations adds to the diversity of the music video. The various use of close ups,
mid shots and long shots really allows the audience to understand the feeling of the artists and the music
video. The integration of the two characters is done very well with the slow fades and transitions
suggesting they are blurring into one. The song choice perfectly fits the style of music video with the very
personal lyrics and the message behind them. In my opinion the music video is filmed really well, the song
itself fits perfectly with the lyrics and the creativity that went into it.
6. RESEARCH• Jessica has posted 4 different posts under the sub-heading Genre, 5 underneath Similar
Products and 2 under Institution.
• These are all accompanied with a ‘Research Summary’
• All of her blog posts under Research (excluding the summary) are displayed in the form of a
PowerPoint shown on SlideShare. They are all accompanied with a comment explaining
what the PowerPoint is.
• In my opinion each post is very detailed yet the lack of different mediums to show the
research is some what infective. The use of a PowerPoint is always effective and simple yet
some posts could be shown in other mediums.
• I aspire to reach the level of detail Jessica has reached, especially to further my knowledge
of music videos.
7. PLANNING• The planning section of her blog consists of 10 posts under the sub-heading Ideas
Generation, 7 posts underneath the heading Logistics and 7 under Pre Production.
• This section of her coursework has included several different mediums to display her work
such as vidoes posted on YouTube, blog posts with and without pictures and SlideShares.
• The videos she posted provided most useful to me, especially ‘audience feedback’ as it
allowed me to see who her audience was. In response to the use of her videos I hope to
post several on my blog. The videos successfully show in detail her stages of planning
which is extremely useful.
• The mood board she created was thoughtfully created with many images showing possible
locations, camera shots, mise en scene ideas and costumes. The layout of this I found
interesting as it concentrates everything needed into one video, while also showing off
skills in Premiere Pro.
