Analyzing Album Art for Inspiration and Connecting with Target Audience
1. First of all I'm looking at James Blake
album cover because it directly
connects with our fan base. His
album cover is fairly simple; it's just
an image of him looking towards the
camera. The colour theme is blacks,
browns, white. The album has a dark
feel to it because of the black border
and the black back cover. The image
is quiet peaceful and I think it relates
to his calm voice in his songs.
2. James Blake album back
cover is pretty simple, a
black background with
white bold letters; and
nothing else. I think this
relates to our audience
because they like artists
that stick to their image;
James Blake is trying to
portray a simple and
peaceful image, this relates
to his music. It relates to
our genre because its quiet
dark and our music has a
dark theme to it.
3. The Presets album cover is an example of an
Electronic Music album cover. It relates to the
genre because there is a surreal theme to it. For
example the wavy effect could relate to the wavy
music and the rhythm of increasing up and
down. This relates to our audience because they
want to discover an artists with a creative image
because it links strongly with the theme of
electronic music. This also has a nice gradient
colour to it which I could use for my album cover.
It looks like most electronic music albums have a
basic background and the artist is the one that is
edited; this is a to connect their style of music to
them. Therefore most people will look out for an
artist with an edited album cover because they
want to experience that style of music. To have a
heavily edited image is a way of expressing
visually how the music feels.
4. So here is an example of an artist that has linked in
their voice with electronic music. You can see that the
cover is a simple image of two boys however they
have drawn over the face of the children. Disclousure
has successfully created synergy with this style of
album covers and when they do a collaboration with
another artist they import this idea onto the album
cover of that artist. Its a simple but nice way of
informing their fanbase that Disclousure contributed
tot he album but it also helps the fan base recognize
their music easily.
