4. R’N’B
RnB, also known as Rhythm and Blues, is a genre of African-American music that originated in the
1940’s.
Today the UK charts contain several RnB songs as the genre becomes more popular.
Some of the most influential RnB artists nowadays are people like Chris Brown, Post Malone and Future.
During the 1980’s, there was a clash between hip hop and RnB with the genre becoming more
hegemonized
This genre is quite male heavy with many female artists opting to stick to the Pop genre
5. GRIME
Grime has only recently become one of the most popular genres in London today.
Many grime artists have used platforms such as SoundCloud to get there music noticed.
Many grime artists focus on issues to do with social injustice in London.
Artists such as Stormzy, Skepta and JME were brought up in estates in London and use that to fuel their
passion for their music.
Many young people living in London view the Grime movement as a chance to escape lives they lead
which is why the genre itself is so influential
Things Grime artists often rap about include money, drugs and relationships.
