Elements Of Cuba s Socialist Legality
Key elements of Cuba s socialist legality are: (1) an emphasis on substantive rather than juridical
measures of justice, (2) the use of law as a pro active tool for socialist development, (3) limited use of
formal legal mechanisms for the resolution of private disputes, (4) the use of informal social courts to
resolve conflicts such as housing and labor disputes, (4) direct citizen involvement in the judicial and
crime control procedures, and (6) a system of state organized law collectives to provide low cost legal
services nationwide. (Winslow) Law enforcement is a key component of any criminal justice system.

Ethical Issues Present in the Distilled Spirits Industry
Introduction Accounting for over $120 billion of economic activity in 2010, the distilled spirits
industry is a prominent piece of the beverage industry as a whole. The alcohol industry is growing
rapidly in foreign markets, especially in countries such as China and Brazil. In the United States alone,
this industry generates over 3.9 million jobs and contributed about $8.8 billion directly to state and
local revenues (The Industry s Role section, para. 1). Team TOTs will discuss the ethical issues that
are prevalent in the distilled spirits industry, pressures facing the industry as well as investment policy
recommendations that VTF should follow. Ethical Issues The challenges the distilled spirits industry
face fall under two main categories, health and advertising. According to the National Institute on
Alcohol Abuse and Addiction, the use of alcohol is the third leading preventable cause of death in the
US (2014). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that heavy alcohol abuse can lead to
a number of health issues, including cardiovascular, neurological, psychiatric, and social problems, as
well as cancer, liver disease, and sometimes death (2014). In addition to the consequences to
consumers health and wellbeing, the industry must also manage the challenge of responsible
marketing. Underage drinking is a serious, prominent issue in the US. Out of the 80,000 people who
die each year from alcohol related causes, 5,000 minors die from as a result of

Chinese People Prefer Buy Luxury
Introduction
Research question: In recent years why have more and more Chinese people opted to buy luxury
good overseas? Specifically in USA, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.
In the past few years, during the holiday seasonal promotions, many brand name stores in
various countries have been filed with Chinese tourists. This phenomenon has drawn the attention
of the Chinese Government, and according to media reports data computing, high end consumer
goods purchased overseas by Chinese visitors in one a year alone amounted to $46 billion,
equivalent to nearly 300 billion yuan.
Chinese people are keen to buy luxury goods abroad, despite many cities within China also have

while in the UK site was £ 1,195 (about RMB 11,855 yuan), while in France for € 1,495, US
$ 1,895. The price of more than 40% cheaper than in China.(Wang,H 2013) In my opinion, I
think the price is the most important reason behind why Chinese tourists buy more luxury goods
overseas.
On the other hand, The China Daily reporter Xiao He cites another reason for why people buy
luxury goods overseas. In 2012, 25% of global luxury goods were purchased Chinese people, 60%
of consumption to overseas. Xiao believes that other reason for why people buy luxury goods
overseas is because in china, they don t have enough variety of luxury goods. The most typical
example is of the Apple phone, can not be purchased as quickly due to delayed release date in the
Chinese market, leading consumers take advantage of tourism opportunities to go abroad to buy.
Many Chinese consumers overseas have found that the same brand of goods abroad offer a much
more extensive range than in China.(Xiao,H 2013)
An article from The Ningbo Daily states another reason for why chinese people may buy luxury
goods overseas. The customer environment is an issue. Outside of China the general price tag

Ishmael Beah Quotes
Character Essay Fighting. Death. Rebels. Children. Wars aren t fought how they used to. They are now
fought by 13 year olds wielding AK 47s and G3s. Ishmael Beah was one of them. Ishmael is a kind
looking Sierra Leonean man. If eyes are truly windows to the soul then his dark eyes reveal pacifism
and kindness. He tends to wear collared shirts and jackets, giving off an air of sophistication. He is a
good man and his looks show it. Ishmael is a kind man, working for his fellow child soldiers. He is
someone I look up to. He is a former child soldier who was forced to do unspeakable acts even though
at heart he is a fairly gentle person. He is a lover of music and often memorized songs and used to sing
and rap them with his friends. He is a strong person who has gone through hell and back, and yet he is
still able to smile and forgive himself for what he s done. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these experiences is when he was about to see his family, then the village they were staying in

burned to death. This happened only a few weeks after their former home was attacked and raided by
rebels. But it is a better fate then some because one of his now deceased, friend s 3 sisters were raped
over and over again. while their father was knocked out for trying to defend them and their mother
being forced to watch. The rebels took the girls with them. Ishmael s fate was not much better than the
3 girls for he became a child soldier: traumatized and hopped up on drugs and told to avenge his
family by killing every rebel and snorting cocaine until he no longer felt anything. Remember war is

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi And The Congress Of Gandhi
On October 2, 1869, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born into a religious Hindu family. His
father, Karamchand Gandhi, already had previous sons and daughters from his four other wives, with
Gandhi marking his last son. As a child, Gandhi showed great interests towards family devotion and
sacrifices. He would often slip away from his overly crowded house and into shops on the street.
Because of Hindu law, Gandhi was wed to Kasturbai Makanji at age 13 14.
Eventually, as Gandhi became older and more mature, he started showing passion towards his studies.
He was offered a one year contract for working in a South African Indian law firm. On his way to
Pretoria, a white man objected to the fact that Gandhi was traveling first class. Gandhi refused to
move, claiming he had a first class ticket. He was quickly thrown off the train and was forced to spend
a night on the station platform. After a successful and fulfilling year as a lawyer, Gandhi s trip to
South Africa was almost at an end. At his farewell party, Gandhi spotted a column in the newspaper
stating that the government in Natal was preparing to seize Indian s right to vote. Disheartened by
India s current condition, Gandhi decided to stay longer and gather signatures for a petition against the
discriminatory actions. Within two weeks, the pacifist collected ten thousand signatures and founded
the Indian Congress of Natal. Believing that written words would make a bigger impact, Gandhi
published two pamphlets that spoke out against the new government movement. Without delay,
Gandhi promptly returned to India to fetch his family. In 1906, Gandhi attempted a mass nonviolent
civil disobedience campaign to counteract the South African Transvaal governments new restrictions
and regulations. He dubbed it Satyagraha, meaning firmness in truth , but his attempts failed and he
was promptly arrested. His actions, however, left a lasting impact, leading to multiple rebellions and
protest. In 1913, Gandhi made a negotiated a compromise with General Jan Christian Smuts, which
ended poll taxes for Indians and recognized non Christian marriages. Later on in his life, Gandhi
supervised many other nonviolent acts of rebellions, such as mass marches and boycotts.

Jim Hawkins Character Traits
Jim Hawkins Character Analysis
Different forces and change shape and change the Jim Hawkins in Robert Louis Stevenson s classic
novel, Treasure Island. The forces and change do the important job of helping the character evolve and
develop. Jim is changed by forces such as death, discovery, and meeting others, which all play a major
part in his change.
All three of forces that caused Jim to change happened frequently throughout the novel. Death
changed him because, if it was his own teammate who died, he would become bolder and eventually
stand up for them to make sure there death was not pointless. Jim may have felt weak when they died,
but he later realized that he should take action. Robert Louis Stevenson stated, Hunter lay beside his
loophole, stunned; Joyce by his, shot through the head, never to move again. If it was a death of
someone against him, he would feel brave and courageous because he had a better chance of

Long John to become greedy and want to take the treasure for his group of mutineers. Robert Louis

Essay On Persepolis
The graphic novel Persepolis, written by Marjane Satrapi, explores the Islamic life and cultures during
the Islamic Revolution in Iran. In this novel, Satrapi narrates her life as a young girl when this
revolution took place. By narrating her life, Marjane Satrapi allows the reader to get an idea of what
she went through. This story includes people fighting for freedom, for themselves individually and for
their country. While some people do experience a small bit of freedom, there are people who do not
have any freedom at all. This novel explores many forms of captivity and freedom that help enhance
the theme and culture of the story. First, Persepolis includes many forms of freedom. For example, the
Shah has more freedom than anyone else in this novel. He makes the rules and he can break them if he
wants to without any consequences. His freedom ranges from being able to say what he wants, do
what he wants, to controlling thousands of people whether they like it or not. Marjane s family also ...

Some people did not agree with the amount of freedom they received so they decided to act upon it.
While some people got away with their actions, most people got arrested or even executed. One form
of captivity that the people in the novel encompass is the act of getting physically held captive in
prison or similar. Also, the Islamic people also experience religious captivity. They do not have a
freedom of religion like most other countries do. If these people go against the country s religion they
get arrested or even executed. They do not have the freedom they deserve when it comes to their
religious choices. The people of Iran are captivated by fear. They live in fear because of the Islamic
Revolution that takes place. They fear that if they do one thing wrong, even if it is small, then they
will be killed. Many innocent people got murdered during the revolution that resulted in the fear of

poorest 60 % of the population had only 4 % of the wealth, while the richest 20 % held 58 % of the

My First Sight Of Amber Pithakoti

regarding nursing as a profession and job, and learn what it entails to be an RN. Information generated

the nursing profession. Amber said to grow, one has to be willing to work hard. Nursing is beyond a
gentle touch. This phrase gave me the understanding that nursing requires considerate exposure to all
the life aspects. With that understanding, one can treat patients and fellow medical professionals well.
One gets to understand everything that affects their professional life, and life outside the workspace.
His personable character and approachable nature displayed a lot of skills that are expected from every
professional nurse. His passion for traveling across the world can inspire healthcare professionals to
appreciate their jobs. This is a display of his capability to interact with people from all walks of life
either as fellow professionals, learners, or as patients. This fact is important in the nursing career since
sometimes patients, as well as employees, can prove to be difficult to work with. One needs to be
equipped with a variety of social skills and communication skills to be able to handle them without
bringing about any challenges.

Michael Corleone s Transformation
In this paper I will argue that in his film, The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola orchestrates the filmic
elements (especially: editing and mise en scéne) to give the audience an intimate view of the complex
world of a Mafia Don: Coppola s techniques sensitively portray the life and transformation of Michael
Corleone; he leaves his status as a family outsider to become king of the underworld.
Michael is the son of Vito Corleone, Don of the Corleone Crime Family1. The story of The Godfather
is the story of both Vito and Michael. Vito passes away and leaves his throne to Michael, who steps
out of a seemingly innocent world ordinary American life to receive his father s crown and to assume
control of the Corleone Family. As my thesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is fat and he moves slowly, though thoughtfully. In a distinct contrast, Al Pacino s Michael
resembles a nervous and self conscious prince. He sulks at the table. He speaks quickly in a high voice
and emphasizes his words like an adolescent.
Though marked, their physical differences are not as important as the differences between their
worlds, their settings. Vito appears in an almost pitch black room. The only things in the room which
are lit are Vito s face, his desk, a lamp in the background and the face of any one of Vito s four
suppliants. And the seclusion of the this world is depicted by the size and sounds of the office: though
it is not claustrophobic, the room is quite small; and there are no background sounds, only the main
conversation.
In sharp contrast, Michael appears with Kay as opposed to the entirely male world of his father. His
father is inside a dark office, while Michael is outside at a lively Italian wedding reception. Children
are running everywhere, men and women are dancing, eating, and drinking. The setting is bright,
colorful, open, and full of music and laughter.
The distinctions between these two settings are polar, as are the characteristics of these two men who
epitomize their respective worlds. Michael lives in traditional America; he attended an Ivy League
school; he is a decorated war hero. Vito lives in the underworld; he is

Analysis Of Dana Stevens Thinking Outside The Idiot Box

TV Does Not Make You Smarter There is no doubt that television holds a purpose in our society
today, but is that purpose brain numbing or actually beneficial to our brain development? The
television, also known as: TV, the boob tube, the idiot box, as well as many other nicknames, has been
around for almost a hundred years. Ever since cable TV became popular in the 1950 s, there has
always been a worry that people watch too much TV. Most people believe that with exorbitant
exposure to the popular media both dumbs us down as well as makes us more likely to tolerate acts of
violence. Dana Stevens Thinking Outside the Idiot Box argues that television does not make you
smarter, directly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stevens says, Johnson s claim for television as a tool for brain enhancement seems deeply, hilariously
bogus (297). She believes that watching television today does not make the viewer smarter but that it
essentially just turns their brains into vegetables. Looking at the picture after reading this, I had a more
clear understanding of this part of her argument. Also on the contrary to Johnsons article, Stevens
discusses the examples of television shows that Johnson mentions that he is convinced enhances brain
function by making the viewers pay attention, make inferences, and track shifting relationships
between characters. Some of these shows are The Sopranos, 24, Hill Street Blues, and others. The
show The Sopranos, is a prime example because this show will connect multiple threads at the same
time, layering one plot atop another (Johnson, 283). Therefore, The Sopranos require a lot more
attention from their audience engaging them with complex characterization and intertwining multiple
episodes, which is what Johnson calls the Sleeper Curve. But does engaging in television shows such
as this benefit the brain in anyway? Stevens says no; she believes in watching shows like these,
watching TV teaches you to watch more TV (Stevens, 296).

Dracula Compared To Modern Society
Why are people so obsessed with vampires today that they go crazy over any book, movie, or tv show
that has a vampire? In 1897, the year Dracula was published Britain was at the height of the empire
expanding. Britain had conquered huge expanses of land from Africa, Asia, and North America and
used the land for military and economic power. The rise of the United States and European powers
threatened to unseat Britain and the world s most powerful nation, at the time this was occurring a rise
in immigration brought unfamiliar races and cultures. Dracula, as an immigrant from the easternmost
edge of Europe represented many of the popular prejudices against outsiders. A year after Dracula
published, British author H.G. Wells exploited similar anxieties in his alien invasion novel The War of
the World s. When comparing vampires adaptation to modern society vs. victorian society one can see
the difference between sex, culture, and tradition through Bram Stoker s, Dracula. In the time period
Dracula was written victorian women either had two choices, be a wife and mother or be a virgin and
pure if she was neither of these she was considered a whore and had no consequence to society. In
Dracula Lucy was seen as a whore, her physical beauty captivated each of her suitors and displayed a
comfort playfulness about her desirability. Why can t they let a girl marry three men, or as many as
want her, and save all this trouble? (Bram Stoker __). To Lucy it did not matter how she was

the pituitary gland occurring in adulthood usually from a benign tumour inside the gland. It is
characterised by the gradual enlargement of the hands, feet, tongue and prominent features of the face
with an enlarged lower jaw, bulging forehead and thickened ears and nose. It is a chronic disfiguring

Genghis Khan And The Mongol Empire
Founded and ruled by Genghis Khan, the Mongol Empire, became known as the largest contiguous
empire in history because it s land stretched throughout Southeast Asia and to Eastern Europe.
Established in the 13th century in 1206 CE, the empire grew rapidly connecting most of Eurasia
establishing trade routes and passing ideologies through 14 million square miles. Genghis Khan was
instrumental to the formation of the empire bringing the rest of the world under one sward . It was
Khan s genius mind and manners that persuaded tribes to unite and have total victorious power when
it came to war tactics. The Mongol invasions consisted of deadly battles and strategies used to conquer
most of Asia between 1200 1300 CE. Finally, it wasn t until the death of Khan that the empire really
took a turn and began expanding at an exponential rate. The Great Khan position was passed through
family members that contributed to the growth of the empire in Eurasia.
Genghis Khan grew up in poverty. During these adolescent years, Temüjin mastered the art of
personal courage in battle learning how to deal with people and building trust with his loyal allies to
get what he wanted. In contrast, he also learned that to improve one s position one must be willing to
betray allies. Genghis Khan grew up Tengrist, a central Asian religion that consisted of both
polytheism and monotheism, but he was curious and open to learning about other religions. This
attitude allowed Khan to relate to the nomads as

The Monkey s Paw And Tell Tale Heart Analysis
Sometimes painful things can teach us lesson we didn t think we needed to know. This is an example
of the stories; The Monkey s Paw and Tell Tale Heart. The story, The Monkey s Paw, tells you about
an old friend of Mr. White coming to visit him and his family. He shows them the monkey s paw and
tells them that it can grant you three wishes. They take it even though the friend warns them not to and
the results aren t what they expected. The story, Tell Tale Heart, tells you about the narrator who is
plotting to kill an old man with the vulture eye . The narrator doesn t realize that what he s done will
cost him. Although The Monkey s Paw and Tell Tale Heart stories may be different, they are also very
similar In both the stories I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story says, I made up my mind to take the life of the old man and thus rid myself of the eye
forever. The author is giving readers what the narrator will exactly do by the end of the story. While
reading both stories, I saw that the authors wrote a lot of irony, the opposite of what will happen in a
story. When Mr. White makes a wish from the monkey paw, he wishes for 200 pounds. The
consequences of the Whites family getting 200 pounds was Herbert dying. This is an example
example of situational irony, the situation turns out to be the opposite of what you thought it would be,
because while the readers thought the money was going to drop out of the sky, the whole other
outcome was different. In the beginning of Tell Tale Heart, the narrator said, I loved the old man. He
had never wronged me. This is an example of verbal irony, you say one thing but really mean the
opposite, because he said he loved him, but meant the opposite because he killed the old man. The
authors of both stories, last but not leastly, use suspenseful moods, the feeling that the story creates
within the reader, and dangerous/mysterious tones, an author s attitude toward the subject or audience
of the story, throughout the story. In The Monkey s Paw, the author says, ...The clock tick.s. A chair
creaks. Finally, a quiet knock is heard. Mrs. White jumps up. This is an example of a suspenseful
mood and mysterious tone. In the

Introduction
Here is a small tutorial that suffices you with the basic concepts required to put up eyes on your robot.
Trust me, if you are into robotics, you are going to enjoy the next few pages. After all, making a robot
that can see would really be cool! So let s get started!
A vision based robot has an image acquisition device like a webcam as its eyes. Then we need a
processor that can make sense out of those captured images and actuators like dc motors for
navigation. One key point to note is that Image Processing has huge computational requirements, and
it is not possible to run an image processing code directly on a small microcontroller. Hence, for our
purpose, the simplest approach would be to run the code on a computer, which has a webcam
connected to it to take the images, and the robot is controlled by the computer via serial or parallel
port. The code is written in a software that provides the tools for acquiring images, analyzing the
content in the images and deriving conclusions. MATLAB is one of the many such software available
which provide the platform for performing these tasks.

The Constructivist View Of Learning
In any classroom, the constructivist view of learning can point towards a number of different teaching
methods. The constructivist view usually means encouraging students to use active techniques such as
experiments, real world problem solving, to create more knowledge for themselves and then for the
students to reflect and talk about what they did and how their understanding changed. (Educational
Broadcasting Corporation, 2004). This view of learning goes hand in hand with an agriculture
educational classroom that bases their curriculum around the FFA program and the three circle model:
instruction, supervised agricultural experience and student leadership organizations. The FFA motto is
Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve. (National FFA Organization , 2014)
Constructivism refers to the idea that learners construct knowledge for themselves and that each
learner individually and socially construct meaning as he or she learns. In the views of constructivism,
there is no such thing as knowledge independent of the knower, but only knowledge that the student
constructs for themselves as they learn. According the constructivist theory, learning is not
understanding the true nature of things, nor is it remembering dimly perceived perfect ideas perfect
ideas, but rather a personal and social construction of meaning out of the bewildering array of
sensations which have no order or structure besides the explanations which educators fabricate

Bambara The Lesson
Throughout The Lesson Bambara weaves the theme of economic inequality with a lace of feministic
elements. Lessons taught are not only of economic inequality but also of the importance of
knowledge. Bambara addresses how knowledge is the means by which one can escape out of poverty.
She uses race to highlight economic inequality along with a childlike wonder of the world. The Lesson
explores the concept of economic classes while also dealing with the question of how to even the class
inequality. Bambara s characters are the driving force of the story with each one offering a unique
perspective into economic inequality. The children can be broken into three categories: those who

Out of all the children only she doesn t question the prices of the toys, even saying she ll go back with
birthday money. Mercedes walks through the store calmly while the other children tumble in like a
glued together jigsaw done all wrong it s obvious that she tries to belong while they don t. She has
taken no greater lesson from the day than to learn to want to be more like the white people who can so
recklessly and carelessly spend their money (Korb). The interpretation that Mercedes wanted to be
like white people was made multiple times but that evidence isn t that she wants to be white, only that
she wants to be rich. When she brings up her desk and stationary she is trying to separate herself from
the other children by bragging. Mercedes wanted to be included somewhere because she didn t fit in
anywhere; her exclusion from the group is physically symbolized as they shove her out of the pack so
she has to lean on the mailbox by herself (Korb). Mercedes bragged so much she didn t fit but also
because she didn t want to fit. Even the names of the children in the story mark their socioeconomic
class and their cultural difference from the white community. Her family seems to have more money
to spend than the other children s families do, and they tend to harass Mercedes for this reason
(Heller). Mercedes wouldn t change

What Is Anime In America
The Sophistication of Anime In America
Japanese animation, called anime for short, landed its first major hit in America with an animation
called Astro Boy. This animation was black and white and was created just like any other animated
film would have been at that time, hand drawn and taken frame by frame. Now however, current
anime has surpassed its predecessors and is full of colorful characters and backgrounds that are
appealing to the eye. Anime has also grown beyond targeting children and is now more targeted
towards viewers with double digit ages and triple digit IQ s or young and old adults, as stated by
Patrick Drazen, author of the book Anime Explosion!: The What? Why? Wow! Of Japanese
Animation. Even so, people still consider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Acting as a base manga paves a way for anime to flourish into society and also acts as a guide for an
anime s storyline. However, anime doesn t just depend on manga; manga also depends on anime.
Patrick Drazen, author of the book Anime Explosion! agrees with Chambers on the fact that many
Japanese anime begin life as comic books, and even goes on to say, This has several advantages,
including the goodwill and familiarity of an audience that already knows and cares about the
characters. It also enables the viewer who is familiar with the manga story to fill in the blanks as they
see the counterpart anime (Drazen). Chambers also approaches anime as a completely different subject
addressing how anime and manga are two completely different art forms. This view can be true with
new technologies emerging around the world, and the method of making hand drawn anime being
replaced by other methods such as CG (computer graphics). An article written by The Associated
Press details small interviews with people in Anaheim s Anime Expo, which is considered the largest
convention of anime and manga in American. Here, Oliver, an anime director from Los Angeles, states
that, CG is becoming increasingly less expensive to do, and mass produce (The Associated Press).
Also taking a stance on the difference between anime and manga The Associated Press addresses how
unlike hand drawn anime, CG features ultra realistic, fluid movements and seamless shadows and
light. With new methods replacing the old it is very viable to say that anime has deviated a small
portion from its original hand drawing method. In fact, this deviation is enhancing the features of new
anime and, is creating a more realistic and sophisticated animation

(#2) Hello everyone. In this presentation, I shall spotlight still life art by exploring the life and works
of Robert Spear Dunning and his contemporaries, who distinguished themselves by their use of this
style. (#3) Still Life Art has been around since ancient times. This is a Still Life painting by ancient
Egyptians Offerings to the Gods . Note that the objects are barely recognizable

(#19) Our attention is held by the many luscious fruits cramming a silver platter. Notice the fruits are
abundant from different seasons. Several fruits have leaves on them indicating their freshness and
wholeness. The artist uses a normal view, balanced composition and a mix of vivid hues
(#20) Depth is added by the red and dark curtains in the background and the paintings on the walls
behind the fruit. Looking down on the fruits expands our horizontal view. The value is mid range dark
and contrasts with the brighter colors of the fruits and platter
(#21) Dunning often uses this Victorian style dining room setting, seen in many homes around this
period. This setting adds a purely sensual and luxurious appeal to the work
(#22) Dunning is famed for use of glitter and antiquity in his paintings as seen in this painting
Cherries. His paintings of fruits and flowers are usually on a tabletop as seen here...

Compare And Contrast The Challenges Of Becoming A Military...
Challenges: At my age it was definitely a good learning experience. Being able to adapt to a
paramilitary style of training has been my greatest challenge. At times, when adapting to the
traditional ways of the academy has taken me out of my comfort. Not having prior military
background and coming from private sector has been an eye opening experience for me. Biggest
strength: Desire and determination to succeed, being resourceful, follow through any assignments or
projects, trustworthy and being 100 % committed to service. I expected to learn and gain knowledge,
and there is a great deal of information to take in which is more than I expected. The course structure

Selection of an Appropriate Investment Plan
Investments the company will engage will consist only of investments with high moral and ethical
character. The management, after a thorough investigation of their background and subsequent
accolades should be of the highest standard of integrity. Any form of misconduct or misdeeds in the
recent past will disqualify the company from investment. Through social investments, the company
can increase resources dedicated to the overall socially conscious initiative and create ways by which
the same money can be reinvested over and over again. Below are three categories which should help
in assisting the selection of socially responsible investments. Program related investments:
Investments that support charitable purposes aligned with the company s mission statement. Program
related investments form many companies are generally structured as loans, loan guarantees, or equity
investments. Mission related deposits: Deposits made to federally insured depository institutions
including traditional banks, community development financial institutions, and credit unions. This is
similar in concept to basic consumer banking of check and savings accounts. These deposits are used
primarily for socially conscious issues that require immediate funding. They are generally structured
as insured certificates of deposit or share certificates. Mission related investments: Investments that
are intended to generate market rates of return but have a social benefit as well. Every recession

  • 3. Ethical Issues Present in the Distilled Spirits Industry Introduction Accounting for over $120 billion of economic activity in 2010, the distilled spirits industry is a prominent piece of the beverage industry as a whole. The alcohol industry is growing rapidly in foreign markets, especially in countries such as China and Brazil. In the United States alone, this industry generates over 3.9 million jobs and contributed about $8.8 billion directly to state and local revenues (The Industry s Role section, para. 1). Team TOTs will discuss the ethical issues that are prevalent in the distilled spirits industry, pressures facing the industry as well as investment policy recommendations that VTF should follow. Ethical Issues The challenges the distilled spirits industry face fall under two main categories, health and advertising. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Addiction, the use of alcohol is the third leading preventable cause of death in the US (2014). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that heavy alcohol abuse can lead to a number of health issues, including cardiovascular, neurological, psychiatric, and social problems, as well as cancer, liver disease, and sometimes death (2014). In addition to the consequences to consumers health and wellbeing, the industry must also manage the challenge of responsible marketing. Underage drinking is a serious, prominent issue in the US. Out of the 80,000 people who die each year from alcohol related causes, 5,000 minors die from as a result of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Ishmael Beah Quotes Character Essay Fighting. Death. Rebels. Children. Wars aren t fought how they used to. They are now fought by 13 year olds wielding AK 47s and G3s. Ishmael Beah was one of them. Ishmael is a kind looking Sierra Leonean man. If eyes are truly windows to the soul then his dark eyes reveal pacifism and kindness. He tends to wear collared shirts and jackets, giving off an air of sophistication. He is a good man and his looks show it. Ishmael is a kind man, working for his fellow child soldiers. He is someone I look up to. He is a former child soldier who was forced to do unspeakable acts even though at heart he is a fairly gentle person. But it is a better fate then some because one of his now deceased, friend s 3 sisters were raped over and over again. while their father was knocked out for trying to defend them and their mother being forced to watch. The rebels took the girls with them. Ishmael s fate was not much better than the 3 girls for he became a child soldier: traumatized and hopped up on drugs and told to avenge his family by killing every rebel and snorting cocaine until he no longer felt anything. • 8. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi And The Congress Of Gandhi On October 2, 1869, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born into a religious Hindu family. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, already had previous sons and daughters from his four other wives, with Gandhi marking his last son. As a child, Gandhi showed great interests towards family devotion and sacrifices. On his way to Pretoria, a white man objected to the fact that Gandhi was traveling first class. Gandhi refused to move, claiming he had a first class ticket. He was quickly thrown off the train and was forced to spend a night on the station platform. After a successful and fulfilling year as a lawyer, Gandhi s trip to South Africa was almost at an end. At his farewell party, Gandhi spotted a column in the newspaper stating that the government in Natal was preparing to seize Indian s right to vote. Disheartened by India s current condition, Gandhi decided to stay longer and gather signatures for a petition against the discriminatory actions. Within two weeks, the pacifist collected ten thousand signatures and founded the Indian Congress of Natal. Believing that written words would make a bigger impact, Gandhi published two pamphlets that spoke out against the new government movement. Without delay, Gandhi promptly returned to India to fetch his family. In 1906, Gandhi attempted a mass nonviolent civil disobedience campaign to counteract the South African Transvaal governments new restrictions and regulations. He dubbed it Satyagraha, meaning firmness in truth , but his attempts failed and he was promptly arrested. His actions, however, left a lasting impact, leading to multiple rebellions and protest. In 1913, Gandhi made a negotiated a compromise with General Jan Christian Smuts, which ended poll taxes for Indians and recognized non Christian marriages. Later on in his life, Gandhi supervised many other nonviolent acts of rebellions, such as mass marches and boycotts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Michael Corleone s Transformation In this paper I will argue that in his film, The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola orchestrates the filmic elements (especially: editing and mise en scéne) to give the audience an intimate view of the complex world of a Mafia Don: Coppola s techniques sensitively portray the life and transformation of Michael Corleone; he leaves his status as a family outsider to become king of the underworld. Michael is the son of Vito Corleone, Don of the Corleone Crime Family1. The story of The Godfather is the story of both Vito and Michael. The only things in the room which are lit are Vito s face, his desk, a lamp in the background and the face of any one of Vito s four suppliants. And the seclusion of the this world is depicted by the size and sounds of the office: though it is not claustrophobic, the room is quite small; and there are no background sounds, only the main conversation. In sharp contrast, Michael appears with Kay as opposed to the entirely male world of his father. His father is inside a dark office, while Michael is outside at a lively Italian wedding reception. Children are running everywhere, men and women are dancing, eating, and drinking. The setting is bright, colorful, open, and full of music and laughter. Analysis Of Dana Stevens Thinking Outside The Idiot Box Jessica Tursi English Comp I Kayal 11/5/13 TV Does Not Make You Smarter There is no doubt that television holds a purpose in our society today, but is that purpose brain numbing or actually beneficial to our brain development? The television, also known as: TV, the boob tube, the idiot box, as well as many other nicknames, has been around for almost a hundred years. Ever since cable TV became popular in the 1950 s, there has always been a worry that people watch too much TV. Stevens says, Johnson s claim for television as a tool for brain enhancement seems deeply, hilariously bogus (297). She believes that watching television today does not make the viewer smarter but that it essentially just turns their brains into vegetables. Also on the contrary to Johnsons article, Stevens discusses the examples of television shows that Johnson mentions that he is convinced enhances brain function by making the viewers pay attention, make inferences, and track shifting relationships between characters. Some of these shows are The Sopranos, 24, Hill Street Blues, and others. The show The Sopranos, is a prime example because this show will connect multiple threads at the same time, layering one plot atop another (Johnson, 283). Therefore, The Sopranos require a lot more attention from their audience engaging them with complex characterization and intertwining multiple episodes, which is what Johnson calls the Sleeper Curve. But does engaging in television shows such as this benefit the brain in anyway? Stevens says no; she believes in watching shows like these, watching TV teaches you to watch more TV (Stevens, 296). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I lived in Albuquerque; he lived in Cloud Croft three hours south, the only mountains of New Mexico I hadn t been. I d come earlier if Phil weren t such an obstinate asshole. He was that guy who gladly used his car, his money, and his lips but it was how he talked, what he said, that was beyond inappropriate. But this was with me, see. Not at first. Several girls, proud cat owners, shrieked when Phil considered declawing Diablo. Don t, they warned him. It s the worst thing you can do to a cat. You just file the claws short. Though Phil hated to admit it, the sluts were right. Only he never filed Diablo s claws. He was lazy. He was either busy with video games and work or passed out in bed. Sometimes Phil wasn t home for days. Phil fed him meagerly and at irregular hours so Diablo constantly meowed. But things changed when the girls couldn t take care of Diablo anymore. Sluts. In 1897, the year Dracula was published Britain was at the height of the empire expanding. The rise of the United States and European powers threatened to unseat Britain and the world s most powerful nation, at the time this was occurring a rise in immigration brought unfamiliar races and cultures. Dracula, as an immigrant from the easternmost edge of Europe represented many of the popular prejudices against outsiders. A year after Dracula published, British author H.G. Wells exploited similar anxieties in his alien invasion novel The War of the World s. The consequences of the Whites family getting 200 pounds was Herbert dying. This is an example example of situational irony, the situation turns out to be the opposite of what you thought it would be, because while the readers thought the money was going to drop out of the sky, the whole other outcome was different. In the beginning of Tell Tale Heart, the narrator said, I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. This is an example of verbal irony, you say one thing but really mean the opposite, because he said he loved him, but meant the opposite because he killed the old man. • 26. The Constructivist View Of Learning In any classroom, the constructivist view of learning can point towards a number of different teaching methods. The constructivist view usually means encouraging students to use active techniques such as experiments, real world problem solving, to create more knowledge for themselves and then for the students to reflect and talk about what they did and how their understanding changed. (Educational Broadcasting Corporation, 2004). This view of learning goes hand in hand with an agriculture educational classroom that bases their curriculum around the FFA program and the three circle model: instruction, supervised agricultural experience and student leadership organizations. The FFA motto is Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve. (National FFA Organization , 2014) Constructivism refers to the idea that learners construct knowledge for themselves and that each learner individually and socially construct meaning as he or she learns. In the views of constructivism, there is no such thing as knowledge independent of the knower, but only knowledge that the student constructs for themselves as they learn. According the constructivist theory, learning is not understanding the true nature of things, nor is it remembering dimly perceived perfect ideas perfect ideas, but rather a personal and social construction of meaning out of the bewildering array of sensations which have no order or structure besides the explanations which educators fabricate ... Acting as a base manga paves a way for anime to flourish into society and also acts as a guide for an anime s storyline. However, anime doesn t just depend on manga; manga also depends on anime. Patrick Drazen, author of the book Anime Explosion! agrees with Chambers on the fact that many Japanese anime begin life as comic books, and even goes on to say, This has several advantages, including the goodwill and familiarity of an audience that already knows and cares about the characters. It also enables the viewer who is familiar with the manga story to fill in the blanks as they see the counterpart anime (Drazen). Chambers also approaches anime as a completely different subject addressing how anime and manga are two completely different art forms. This view can be true with new technologies emerging around the world, and the method of making hand drawn anime being replaced by other methods such as CG (computer graphics). An article written by The Associated Press details small interviews with people in Anaheim s Anime Expo, which is considered the largest convention of anime and manga in American. Here, Oliver, an anime director from Los Angeles, states that, CG is becoming increasingly less expensive to do, and mass produce (The Associated Press). Also taking a stance on the difference between anime and manga The Associated Press addresses how unlike hand drawn anime, CG features ultra realistic, fluid movements and seamless shadows and light.
