This is an update of the humanitarian activities of the Dominican Starfish Foundation during the past year. We have built 14 homes in the past year, taken a shipping container and done many more things in the Dominican Republic to help the people there.
By working together, programs are then created that provide tangibles like nutritious food, school supplies and donated goods, and essentials like education, family therapy and opportunities for economic stability. our churches are based from rural setting communities and we have been for many years seeing our youths ending their studies in only primary schools and when it comes to secondary they most of them they do not go due to schools being in distances of 20-30 kilometers and many secondary schools are in urban areas which makes them very costly in terms of living expenses and even the school fees itself .
Therefore , we have come in with a solution of developing a senior secondary school for the helping the disadvataged youths to access that level of education .

As a third world country, Haiti faces a lot of challenges. Improvements must be made in the areas of education, health care and socio-economic equality.
In 2010, the earthquake devastated much of the country’s healthcare infrastructure. St. Luke Foundation for Haiti and the Andrea Bocelli Foundation (ABF) have made it their mission to confront Haiti’s challenges and to save lives through education, healthcare, and service to others. While Haiti has seen marked reduction in child malnutrition in recent years, there is still much progress to be made. Childhood malnutrition and food insecurity negatively affect physical growth, immune system development, and cognitive function, leading to long term impacts on overall health. St. Luke Foundation and ABF work to address problems of malnutrition through meal programs in their schools and sustainable agricultural support for local farmers. Dr. Beaubrun will present on the foundations’ mission and his experience in the field of nutrition action: projects based on nutrition and health action, agriculture action, HIV treatment and prevention, and distribution of food kits for HIV patients.

crisis brought on by COVID-
19, starvation became a very
real issue in the Dominican
Republic and other places
around the world.
We distributed over 20000
food packs during the year to
hungry people in dozens of
communities in the
Dominican Republic.

4. After extreme starvation, severe flooding and a devastating
fire in San Rafael de Yuma (near Punta Cana) our foundation
leaders, Amarilis, Luis Miguel and David made the 8-hour trip
across the island to help the community. With funds that we
raised, they delivered food packs, bought furnishings for
those who lost everything in the fire, deliver thousands of
pounds of clothing from our distribution center, purchased
two homes for those in great need and more.
5. Though COVID-19 stopped our home building for
April and May, 2020 was the biggest year to date
for building and restoring homes.

• We did home-make-overs and major
renovations on 13 homes.

19. HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
As part of our mandate, we continued to assist many who needed
emergency and continuing medical assistance. This year we
helped raise funds for a kidney transplant, a brain surgery, broken
limb repairs, cancer treatments, diabetic complications, heart
surgery, COVID-19 hospitalizations and medications and several
other medical procedures and treatments.
20. 2020 WAS A VERY BIG YEAR FOR OUR EDUCATION ARM
We were privileged to spend 2 months in the Dominican Republic before Covid-19 shut
down the world! Because our major goal for this year was to find land and build a school
for Youth Upliftment International, we took 10 different groups to visit the existing school.
Just before we returned home, we were blessed to locate a building that we could
purchase for less that the price we had been looking at for land. We found exceptionally
generous donors the same day and were able to purchase the property. We also found
donors to pay for the new roof and other needed renovations.
21. • We continue to support 3 university students.
• In 2020, we donated hundreds of pounds of school supplies to various schools.
• We continue to sponsor for over 50 students in the Youth Upliftment School.
• Even though school was cancelled for much of the year, the sponsorship money
has helped students to take online and home study classes. The funds have
also assisted in feeding the families.
22. THE EMPLOYMENT ARM OF OUR FOUNDATION GREW!
We hired an additional construction manager as part of our
permanent crew. Fernando Crisostomo joined our team as our
construction manager. With him we added two Masters of
Construction, Luis Jose and Miguel Gonell. This has made a huge
difference in the number of homes we have been able to build and
repair. We had a total of 65 local workers who received some
employment income through the foundation in 2020.

23. We were extremely fortunate to receive a $15000 US matching
donation from doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation. This was
matched to funds we raised at our annual online auction. This
assistance along with a grant from Gay Lee Foundation will
make it possible to build a second level onto our community
center in Javillar. This addition will be used for classrooms and
medical facilities. Construction will start in 2021.
24. 2020 brought great hunger, sadness,
unemployment and death to many in the
Dominican Republic.
Thanks to so many donors, 2020 also brought
many miracles. We received phenomenal
support in helping to feed the hungry, expand
our building program and assist in ways we
would have never dreamed possible!
